empire of the Suns phoenix Suns empire of the Suns
empire of the Suns hello there and welcome to the Empire of the Suns podcast my name is Kellen Olsson joined as always by Kevin Zimmerman kevin hello we are back in our natural habitat podcasting podcasting remotely what a time um the draft’s over and teaser spoiler we like it I think
yeah we really like it um we I I think the way that I can uh frame it to start um by the way thank you to everyone for listening to the last episode or any of the draft shows that were on the air live if you couldn’t tell we were in the middle of a draft show and I just told Kevin with how long the day was going to be why don’t we just do two segments here of radio turn that into our It got a little choppy when Luke took us through like the the teens i was like “All right let’s talk about Mark Williams.” Um but Luke the absolute pro put us in the right direction uh from there and then we just kind of gave our thoughts i tried to ramble through as much of my thoughts as possible but I’ll like uh I’ll save any of that kind of conversation and just direct you to the website where I wrote about Kaman Malawatch and then the Williams trade itself and just how the thing I’ll say on it before we transition out of it Kevin is like like every couple of hours today I’ve thought of like a new question that I have about the zones after making this trade like they just keep popping up i had like a dozen in the um more than a dozen in the story and I just keep having um more but yeah we can uh we can start there we’ll start with what the Suns got done today which is during the second round of the draft uh they were able to make three different trades involving just draft picks and they were able to go start the day with numbers 52 and 59 and ended the day with 31 and 41 they gave up a total of six second round picks to get that done that’s that includes 52 and 59 and then four future seconds what Gambo and I were trying to figure out on the air by the way shout out to Gambo he put up a 49 point triple double on Burns and Gamble i’ve never seen anyone have that much energy about anything in their entire life he was completely out off the chain and ludicrous on his program while breaking the news and having the energy and stamina that he did i I don’t know like I don’t have that much stamina with anything ever in my life and at his age to be doing what he’s doing it’s insane um and we’re going to have another radio show tomorrow i don’t know how if he’s not there I would understand like he he’s put in an incredible shift the last two days so I wanted to preface that by the way if I sound a bit loopy because that was like the that was a surreal two-hour experience felt like I was tripping on drugs for half of that show um Gambo’s breaking a lot of the information and what we were trying to figure out is okay four future second round picks were sent out we know they got five from the Durant deal i think they had three going into the off season so that would be eight so half of those are gone or no six of those eight are now gone i think they either have one or two left i’m going to have to double check my work tomorrow but I think they have one or two left they utilized all of this to accelerate when these second round picks were going to come to fruition and just took advantage of a couple of situations so they started the day trading two future seconds to Brooklyn at number 36 to get 36 Brooklyn took five players in the first round so they were done taking rookies they were fine giving up that pick as well and then they took 52 and 59 and they got uh 41 which they held and they took Kobe Breao with and then it was like okay are they going to use 36 and 41 to move up to 31 because Gambo had the reporting that Rashir Fleming out of St joe’s who we talked about uh three four episodes ago as our favorite guys at 29 you and I were fans of like his tools and stuff they used um instead they used 36 in two future seconds to move up to 31 so they had 31 and 41 everyone knew at 31 they were taking Fleming they were looking at Chaz Laneir out of Tennessee who we talked about tyresese Proctor out of Duke who we talked about as well proctor was still on the board at 41 but they went with Kobe Brea uh Laneir went earlier which made me think Lenir sharpshooter brea sharpshooter they just wanted a shooter somewhere a specialist there and that’s what they got but I I’m um still not still like it’s just how I feel it’s going to be continue to be how how they felt like I feel like they got worked in the Kevin Durant negotiations like I feel like they just did and they got out leveraged whatever you want to call it i just feel like they got taken to the woodshed a little bit with how that whole situation handled and I felt like the return emphasized that the Mark Williams trade I don’t really understand too much so still so I’m pretty critical of what they did in that facet but when you look at just the draft as a whole coming away with Malawatch Fleming and Brea and doing especially what they did today this is now two years in a row Kevin where we’ve seen we can say this is a Matt HP thing now or a Brian Gregory thing because he was around last year I guess but they did the 22 to 28 move last year and then they moved second rounders around again to move up to take OSO last year so two years in a row where we’ve seen this done this and you got to give them credit and they do deserve credit and praise for how they handled the draft overall the draft the draft I’ll say
yeah yeah i I’ll start there and say like I think they’re valuing second rounders actually greater than most other teams most other teams throw them around and they’re like “Okay we’re going to package two move up get a guy we we love at at you know the the 30s or the 40s even the 50s.” But I think that’s that’s important to do now one like maybe they’re not thinking this detailed um they they might be but one it it matters that these drafts NIL existing already but there are fifth year seniors and that kind of thing um Kobe Bray is one where you’re you get your choice at a lot of very experienced players who we know what they are right and I think that’s a really good move and I think this draft as a whole I’ll say from Malawatch all the way down is yeah we it’s not surprising because of Brian Gregory’s Michigan State background but I mean we we can say it like these guys that they’re picking are picks that we probably like we’re agreeing with we saw the boards the same way our little scouting experience compared to them like looks good um and they’re not reaching or picking crazy picks now it could fail and these guys are not good I guess but um they’re they’re going with the board so they are not like acting like they are just out there in their own world I guess um so we’ll have to see but I’ll say like I appreciate that they see NBA skills in these guys and they’re attacking very pointed things like like Brian Gregory on the um call after Wednesday’s you know first round was okay we were 27th in defense we need to protect the interior and also we are terrible at rim pressure basically and like if you even include Jaylen Green in this like they’ve solved a lot of rim pressure issues that we’ve talked about throughout the last two seasons can’t get downhill don’t have bigs to rim roll um they’ve attacked that um and they added a shooter and like look as much as we criticize them for having a bunch of moves needed to be made now they were always going to have that i guess um like Bradley Bill remains the problem basically and on the line on down the line um so I think that who where they’ve gotten players positionally doesn’t matter to me right now and it was always going to be this way where it’s like it’s just talent asset accumulation and I’m I’m going to go back to the the Mark Williams thing real quick and circle back cuz yesterday we were just in the moment I guess but to me it’s still like okay one the timing of the trade going down with the timing of Malawatch oh he’s following to us was the same time and it’s almost like something bad happened to them where someone pressured them and being like okay we’re like Charlotte’s like we’re putting the trade through now i see the centers following to you i’m not going to let it happen that’s conspiracy theory whatever um but like as you pointed out after it it doesn’t make sense to have two if they’re both fives for sure and one needs a contract extension or is a restricted free agent um so he if we’re being pessimistic they weren’t prepared for that situation and if we’re being optimistic then Mark Williams is a um you either extend him and flip him or you just flip him at the deadline for whatever you can get for him because he might be a starter and it might be a risk but you get something for him right so I I I think if I’m being optimistic I’ll go down that road they have a bunch of pieces that have NBA talents and people might want and that even goes back to the roster that was existing before these last two days so um I would say that they’re in a good spot and now they have still a lot of work to do
yeah exactly the way that I put it on Twitter just now is like they have they have shown a capability to make things happen and like you can go back to Ishbia getting here and doing the Durant trade right away like making things happen uh that can be a positive connotation it can be a negative connotation again I think that um the Williams trade the timing of it everything that was reported about how I don’t know like agreed upon finalized however like the wording goes that it was before they picked essentially but that’s like obviously with more time to think about it too the other thing and the question is like just tell Charlotte like okay Malawatch won’t be there but if he’s if he’s there then we don’t want to do the deal anymore is that okay and what’s Charlotte going to be like they’re like “Actually no no no we’ve got so many people calling about Mark Williams right now that are offering us two picks in the 20s.” Actually like that I don’t think they were getting offers like that anywhere this is twice now in 6 months where they’ve decided like “We want to get off him now we do not want to pay this guy you look at what the look at like the Anthony Simons deal as another one where like people are like why would Portland do that they don’t want to pay Anthony Simons duh that’s that’s why they do not want to pay him.” And they’d be better off they think they’d be better off Drew whatever separate conversation and the other thing with Williams as well to again like remind us like where we are so I think what we’re trying best to do with everyone listening by the way Suns fans listening very happy for you because for the team to have like this influx of exciting young talent like I’m going to be at summer league in two weeks and I can’t wait because this team at summer league should be super fun to watch and just to have this type of young talent to watch grow we were talking like six months ago maybe even three months ago like are they going to have this type of young talent at all to watch like are they just going to have nothing like we were really in that sort of doom and gloom era of like okay they’ll have some picks in the 20s but who knows exactly who it’ll be what kind of upside the guys will have and there’s upside like that across but like another thing to like bring us down to earth before we get too heavy with what we’re saying you look at the Mark Williams trade another way Kevin it’s twothirds of the 2031 unprotected pick and that’s even more uh it brings up your ease the only way that it works just one more point I brought up on the radio with it today that I didn’t bring up on the last episode before we transition out of it again is the only way this trade works is if the ideal scenario what however you want to phrase it Malawatch is pretty good and in a year or two it’s like okay we need to play him 30 plus minutes a game he needs to be a starter by then Mark Williams has stayed healthy enough to play himself into a contract that is affordable and good and he has earned enough trust for someone to take on that contract in a trade and give you back an asset that is somewhat even like that is and that is asking a lot out of Williams to stay healthy it’s asking a lot out of other teams to take on that type of money with the contract that he’s about to be up for but I do think the Suns are in a good position with the restricted free agency not many teams are going to be negotiating too hard with them over his services I think so they’ll be in they’ll be in some sort of pole position there with him specifically but it’s like the other way that I said it is like if you would have made this type of trade with Mark Williams’s like profile the injuries the whole thing for a four or a three wing or a point guard it would make much more sense as opposed to right now okay the the players that they were able to get and just like sort of what they have on the roster now and and I think one more thing I’ll say when we’re bringing up Williams and everything else is again it’s like the capability to make things happen so you can look at the negative uh trades that they’ve made where like the inexperience I think in the front office has shown and you can look at other situations like this one where all all we all the time we talk about oh like they can just give up cash and get the 42nd pick or like no you can give up these two future picks and get this pick not a lot of front offices are actually able to do that and do it three times on the same day and they and they were able to do it so like they deserve a lot of um props for that and that’s what we’re uh giving them here for sure for the players that they got malawatch we talked about a little bit I believe on the episode yesterday but we’ll just extend it here to the podcast now that we have like the full form 72 77 wingspan started playing basketball 6 years ago very raw when you watch him on the court just like feel of where to be on both ends of the floor it’s just going to take some time like the natural basketball movements that guys have been doing their whole lives up until that point it’s just stuff like that where he’s got some ways to go he’s not a vertically explosive player but I think laterally he can move a little bit like I don’t think he’s going to be strictly a drop guy like I think he can do some other stuff vini um had the same opinion as well on him and then the enticing part of his game on top of how giant he is 9 foot6 standing reach I want to say is he shot threes internationally in FIA didn’t shoot him at Duke has a good-look jumper can he become a stretch five overtime doesn’t need to to become like a top 10 center in the league to be clear because if he just does the elite finishing the elite rim protection then he’ll be uh more than fine so you take him you take Mark Williams then you take Rashir Fleming who we talked about a lot a couple episodes ago so I’ll keep it short on him too 69 75 wingspan plays the four plays the five uh shot 39 from three on over four and a half attempts per game for St joseph’s really good athlete uses it really well mainly in transition and as a defender there’s just a lot of like harnessing what he does where like floor sense and things like that and just like moving too fast things getting a step ahead for him for a three-year player you can like see that stuff when you when I was watching the games but there is like this overall package of all the secondary stuff he could provide with rim protection rebounding um and just being an offball rotator as a power forward quote unquote whatever and then you use him as a small ball five in the future that’s the only part of this that I would ding and why I didn’t have him number one on like the 30 whatever board 36 board as opposed to and it turned into 31 board um as opposed to the 29 board which I’m number one on is I’d like to have him some room for him to play center right away he’s not going to have that right away they still have some more moves to do and then Kobe Brea super simple um best shooter in college basketball the last two plus years he shot 46% from three the last two years combined 46 like there are guys with field goal percentages that weren’t that high that got drafted way ahead of him and they should have to be clear he’s just an elite shooter and like he’s so good Kevin that if he can just figure out how to hang on the floor defense or just be a 0.5 guy with his decision-m he’ll be a pro for a decade like it’s just everything else in his game one of those things like core elements just needs to be a little bit better yeah I I think Fleming to start there um they’re not this is like an indictment on the class maybe but there are a lot of guys who it’s like if he just had a shot he would be a lottery pick and maybe that’s every year but I just feel like this year especially there are just so many talents but there are so many questions about the shooting and I will say like I’m like apprehensive to like buy him as a shooter because you look at it he has a lot of movement in his shot that doesn’t need to be there but at the end of the day it goes in right and it’s it is like you said four and a half shots a game high volume um and yeah it’s only one season but the guy is super efficient he was like 53 or 54% overall field goal percentage so rim rolling and three-point shooting just everything’s there and again being at a small school and he averaged like 14 points a game but it to me that’s actually good cuz he’s not trying to play out of his mind and try to prove anything and be this lottery pick or be something um that he’s not he’s just thoughtful about his own shot selection and I think that is going to be really good to translate to the next level because again he is a really good athlete um can he hang with like threes if he gets switched down i don’t know i think he can hang decently cuz he’s a pretty good athlete um rim rolling yes if he has enough you know girth to to move into the five um in some situations I think that’s definitely on the board he has like a 74 wings span that I think is tied for fourth in this entire class and he’s obviously you know 68 so that’s kind of crazy um I I love that pick um like we talked about before um and as far as the Brea pick I guess I didn’t really watch for some reason I didn’t watch a lot of Kentucky and I was I was watching a lot today after they made that pick and the the thing that will surprise you if you’ve not watched him like me is just like he actually does do a lot off the dribble and and that’s what’s interesting it’s not like he’s you know isoing like Book or Kyrie or something and creating but like they moved him around screens but it’s like one or two dribbles and he has the size and enough shake to free himself to get the shot off cuz the shots so quick and so little motion that he can get off a shot pretty much anywhere with a couple dribbles and that to me is kind of like okay it’s not just like you’re uh Duncan Robinson and you got to be wide open and people just forget about you even though that’s all you do is shoot it’s like there’s a little shake there um to get open and and enough size to make me feel good about it translating in a really good way um so that that’s kind of where I’m surprised with him again like you got to say he can hold up on defense um I I do think the handle’s good enough where if he’s learning how to get off a shot against better athletes then he can at least get rid of the ball um but yeah I I think that’s a really good pick too again speaking to the Suns just being like “That guy’s really good at something it’ll translate to the NBA level let’s just take him at 41.” Yeah i think uh one more point that Gregory made that I want to add is that they he played four years at Dayton one year at Kentucky kobe Brea did and what he noted uh Gregory did is that there was year-to-year improvement within like him as a shooter so it’s like okay catch and shoot stuff okay now he’s coming around uh pin downs flares okay now he’s taking him off the dribble okay now he’s hitting step backs like there was just a gradual improvement to how he got his shot off he’s not just a catch and shoot guy and is someone where he will learn even more in the league with how much more room that he is going to have and how much more gravity his teammates are going to take up now that if he just like does like the Cam Johnson lift from like the corner to the wing um or just anything like that like just move a couple of feet like he’s just going to make a world of difference and he already does some of that stuff but he’s going to he’s going to play in a couple of like scrimmages uh over the summer where he does that stuff a little bit and then or one of the assistants going to talk to him and be like “Do you see that right there?” Like that’s how you’re going to be a pro for a decade if you just move like that a little bit off the ball when it makes sense and with what UT wants to do with pace and space but more so movement in the half court that’s where he can be a guy uh Gambo was reporting that they expect Fleming to be someone who can play i I don’t want to contextualize try and contextualize too much like such a short statement but I took it as Gambo saying like they want Fleming to be in the rotation and and that part is really interesting to me because I don’t think Malawatch is going to be like a a scratch on on the first night like I think they’re going to look for him to play right away so you look at their roster right now to transition into that let’s just assume that you’ve got Devin Booker Jaylen Green Dylan Brooks Ryan Dunn as your four guys for now and then Mark Williams as the five the asterisk over him as always the backup five is Malawatch fleming is going to get in there somewhere with the size and then it is the glut of 6’4 to 66 guys to pick away from they didn’t get a point guard in this draft or on a two-way uh Nemhard uh the the younger Nemhard people were clamoring for on a two-way dallas got him instead um Cam Jones was around at the top of the second round they went with Fleming instead um there were there were options but they didn’t go there colin Gillespie should be back he’s a restricted free agent so there’s just a lot of work to get done and the again the Williams trade I’m not trying to harp on it but you look at Richards and what we talked about when they got the trade done initially and what you and I said is like this is not a short-term thing this is not like you just put the band-aid on it’s like this guy needs to be a part of your young core going forward he is not anymore that has just been stamped done official now is he going to be on the team next year maybe but that that’s done he was just a short-term thing for 6 months they gave up three second round picks it didn’t work he’s not as good as they thought he would be whatever he’s gone also again three second round picks that were valuable at the time also it was valuable at the time those picks they used to move up and get him like some of those were like second rounders they got from the swaps that are going to kill him here for a couple of years so for him to be in the position and for Nick to be in this position it’s easy to say “Oh Mark Willing’s going to miss 20 games.” Like one of these guys can hang around one of the guys probably should hang around but Oso is only going to get better if he plays like Nick is a older player he’s in his late 20s but he needs to play to get better too so at center they’re in this position now where I could easily see both guys being gone just because Nick is going to have value in the trade market either teams still see something in him and they can get some future first or future second excuse me maybe two maybe one or the value because Gambo said teams are calling on him is this is a non-g guaranteed deal they can do the Meeich thing that Charlotte did which is here’s Nick Richards here’s his six million you can chop it off your books we’ll take the player back they might just need to cut him Kevin to get under the second apron anyway because I don’t know if they can afford to do that again and now OSO could be a sprinkle in another deal let’s say Grayson for a protected first isn’t getting done on on its own okay what about what if we throw in OSO what if we throw in OSO you like OSO everyone likes Oso in the league he’s he’s a good fun young player like that that’s the type of thing that comes up with those centers and again like the necessity of it I don’t know like that’s another conversation we won’t elaborate any further but uh they they got work to do starting there for sure with the bigs yeah and I guess Oso and Nick Richards are very different because again Nick could be very much a salary move and whether it’s cutting or trading or whatever also like if if he’s not a throw in to make someone take Bradley Peele or Grayson Allen or or Royce O’Neal or something um it’s not bad I guess to to stash him in the G- League and be like I mentioned this on the radio show the other day like hey you got to play power forward and to play power forward you’re going to have to develop a shot and you’re just going to have to spend the next year doing that um if this team is serious about their G-League developmental stuff which obviously they started a whole G-League team like that’s the type of thing where you let someone go do that and then you figure out what to do with him later and there’s always look there always it could be an opportunity for him to be in the rotation once again if um people get hurt other trades come up someone starts playing really well and then like you trademark Williams and suddenly that’s one person down and then another injury opens the spot for him when he’s ready so um I think that’s the reason why you have a G-League team um but yeah it’s it’s kind of curious now where he fits in definitely and then there is the uh you added a seventh player now who is not really big enough to be a wing like a bigger wing i guess they are a wing they’re not maybe some of them are two guards maybe them are smaller wings or whatever but Kobe Brea 67 but he’s got a negative wingspan he’s going to be more of a two guard and of course you’ve got Green Booker Beal Allen O’Neal as well uh to deal with here so I think the issue there is of course like leverage and that kind of thing teams know that they need to balance their roster right now and teams know that they need to duck under the second apron so there there’s just a lot of challenges that they have right now i didn’t mention Brooks brooks is the seventh guy in that group um there’s just a lot of challenges with what they’re going to try and get done right now and it’s just again it’s like the well well if it isn’t the consequences of my own actions it’s like they they put themselves in this position because they made two trades that are going to require them to make more trades so we’ll we’ll see i’m I’m not s like you and I are obviously like pessimistic is the wrong word we we’re just going to keep stressing how difficult this is going to be but in a much lesser version of what we’re talking about it is difficult to what they do what they just did in the second round and they did get it done um but yeah and again I I’ll repeat this a second apron this is like luxury tax where it’s at the end of the year so it could take till the they could wait until the deadline but even then it’s like right now like your actual basketball roster needs to be somewhat balanced and it’s just there’s too many guys that need to play now too it’s not like you have too many good players i’m not saying that but you need to find a way to balance this properly so everyone is getting the type of role that they would envision not talking about Brad specifically but like in this uh current trajectory like you’re looking at even less minutes for Grayson and Royce than you did last year and we were concerned about them getting playing time last year as it is yeah um and that’s where it’s it’s you’re tiptoeing because like Grayson and Royce um whatever you think about them as veterans on those contracts they deserve minutes and that’s where then it’s like okay how do we develop the young guys and that kind of thing also the fit just doesn’t again we you need more ball handlers on this roster just straight up to help Jaylen Green Devin Booker so yeah I mean there there are a lot of questions moving forward even if you assume Beal’s gone and we don’t even know what what’s coming back so I yeah I’m curious i mean I’m curious on the buyin i’m curious on the next steps and into free agency what we see out of this because like I was I don’t know if I’m not correctly on edge but today I was just like oh we got to prepare for Grayson Allen to get traded for salary filler and second round picks honestly like that’s where
is he going to are they going to just dump him entirely to Brooklyn like are they going to be like hey Brooklyn here’s a good NBA player who you can probably get something much more for We should have to dump him to you to use your cap space like you just give us a heavily protected first in two seconds and here you go like I
Go ahead that that’s the weird thing about covering this team this summer especially is like yeah we dumped on the KD trade because like they did all these actions to put themselves in that position but them h like for example dumping a good player like Grayson Allen for second round picks and salary filler is kind of just like what you have to do now be and it’s it’s kind of like a I need to criticize you for putting yourself in this position but also that’s what you need to do in this moment you know what I mean um so that that’s kind of where I feel weird about talking about this cuz it’s kind of both ways almost well and I was thinking about timing like before we sign off like timing like how when do you need to get all this done by and I mentioned second apron but in the end of the season and the deadline for apron things like that um you need to go into free agency knowing that positions you need to assign so I don’t want to say there’s a hard deadline here of like less than a week like July we are less than a week from July 1st but you need to get at least one of these things figured out you need to know at least like what the future of center is and you at least need to know what the future of We know what the future is of both positions we know it’s Jaylen Green and Deon Booker sharing a back court and then we know that it’s Mark Williams and come on Malawatch like we know that part for sure but we don’t know the rest of the guys like is there an outcome to their off season where they still need to sign like a veteran third string center or whatever do they still need to would they look to address point like it’s like the Monte Morris thing like they sign Monte Morris and all of a sudden Tyus Jones becomes available when they didn’t ever think he would be and they signed him and now Monte is like you need that like Monte Morrisesque signing if that makes sense
um to like plan ahead in case things don’t come together so I’m preparing for more to happen over the next couple of days just cuz they don’t really have a choice but again the whole league knows that so there I I I want to know I I don’t know the math to be clear but we know that that number is pretty heavy because Michich and Martin that their numbers were not enough to get them under the apron and there were uh Beiel’s number two on like the wave and stretch was like just getting them under so it’s a pretty heavy number that they’re over right now and by the way they have added salaries to that like they they they match salaries with KD and all that but then they added the number 10 overall pick salary they’ve got the 31st overall pick salary and they’ve got the 41st overall pick salary too so I think they’re even more over than they were a week ago yeah I don’t want to do the math I guess but it’s it’s basically it’s also like easy easy big quotation marks around that but like easy with two or three moves to get there I think but it it just depends what the moves are what in conjunction with the KD like the KD deal has to happen and then yeah all these salaries add up a little bit um but like the Grayson and Royce O’Neal again it’s like if you chop even a couple million off th moving in the right direction but that’s obviously going to be tough i don’t know yeah we’ll see um you and I were talking about this as I was leaving the office yesterday we don’t really have much to offer you guys in terms of previewing free agency cuz we just know it’s veterans minimum and that’s it and as we just sort of talked about like the odds of them signing someone in for free for free agency who’s going to be in their rotation at the start of the season is pretty low right now like there’s a point guard that can factor in somewhere I suppose um but like I said we know the two bigs we know like the three or four or five wings that are going to play whatever conglomeration of those guys it is and then we know like the two primary guys on the ball who they’re going to be so it’s pretty much a done roster already but it’s it’s also pretty incomplete it’s a weird paradigm that they’re in so we’ll be back uh we’ll probably just be on watch here uh with trades and stuff so if things get active things get busy again we’ll be back and talk about that but the summer league is coming up in two weeks so at the very least like a week from now we’ll check in how the start of free agency went for them over July 4th weekend um and preview summer league which is all of a sudden going to be really exciting i’m glad I’m going back yeah and again it’s like I don’t even want to put together a salary cap table and start getting started on it because I just don’t want to do wasted effort to be honest like not being lazy it’s just there’s in theory they this roster should not be done for the season or close even though Yeah yeah um yeah I told you I was going to hit a point on this podcast where I ran out of words to say and that just happened live so that’s a sign that I should sign us off thank you everyone for listening really appreciate all the support over the uh the live streaming days uh the the shows and everything and then everything we’ve been writing about and podcasting as well but uh we’ll see you next time good oh yeah caleb got signed by Cats Talk at the very end caleb to Portland schmidz looking out for us as always our guy buying into the Arizona wrong narrative over the Caleb Love guy he just seems like a good kid who’s good at basketball all around and I hope it uh works out well
if you convince that guy if you convince that guy that he doesn’t need to shoot the ball he’s a role player i actually think he’s got a shot he has that skill set if just like him playing in a role like a role player role which he’s never done his entire career pretty much just gets his three-point percentage up I think he’s going to be a pro for a long time okay that’s it we’ll be back next time bye
The Phoenix Suns have more moves to make, but their 2025 NBA Draft haul of Khaman Maluach, Rasheer Fleming and Koby Brea is a promising crop, especially considering the moves made to get those players.

Very exciting stuff. Haven’t been excited about the draft in a while. If we were over the moon for Ryan and Oso just wait till we see what these guys can do. I hope Beal will ask to leave or work with us. We could have so much more flexibility with him gone but I just don’t see him leaving if he doesn’t want too. Very nice guy but he’s the type to stand on his values when it comes to family, if they like it here I don’t see him leaving and moving them again if they don’t want to do that.
Loved what the new GM pulled off
Fleming was such a steal!!!!
lol idk what you don’t get. We were 29th in rim protection last season. It was clear to people who don’t know basketball that our big men were getting worked over hard. And yeah it wasn’t a generational haul for KD he’s 37 lol but I don’t mind the return one bit. We could have had another first that was on the table and I heard Gregory asked for all those 2nds and probably to shoot shots like he just did. That all worked out. Obviously we need to see it on the court but getting 2 brand new young center that can move laterally and rim protect. Richard’s and ohso are likely gone same with Royce, Grayson, and we will extend or flip mark williams we got him for 2 late 20s picks. And I know we will add a PG
“i don’t get the Mark Williams trade” dude did you watch the games and understand Maluach is still 18? That’s literally all you need to know for it to make sense.
one thing I like about Ishbia now
he clearly takes risks and learns and adapts fast
say what you will this is what Sarver could never do
Ishbia and BG have been playing chess, was reported suns couldve gotten another first for KD but they chose to get 5 seconds instead, and they knew exactly what to do with them. Mark Williams is starting caliber today Maluach is 18 years old. everyone knows centers take longer to come into their own for the most part idk how you cant see that unless youre still salty about the KD trade
What happens if the Williams trade falls through
I wonder if Colen Gelespsy (sorry about spelling) can play point? Either way, we have plenty of guards to trade if we need to.
How many centers have the suns missed on…Lord the last good true center was Mark West…so the Williams trade made sense…the kids 18 n needs time to mature…don't over use a young guy like we did Amar'e, he got hurt and never really recovered fully…
Don’t understand the pessimism towards the Williams trade. Do we remember how poor the center play last season was? He’s 23 and while he does have injury concern, he does a lot of what this team was dying for last year
Y'all have some interesting takes. So negative And I don't get it at all
Why does it feel like Kellan is ALWAYS talking down to people? Really smart guy but super condescending. Hard to listen to
We need to use Fleming only at power forward!!!!
