Insider CONFIRMS Knicks #1 Target In Free Agency | Knicks News

we have an update on the Knicks free agency plans the Knicks are looking at a number of different free agents right now to add to this team and we finally have more information on who their main the bench they need to add more size to this team and adding more three-point shooting is a must but it’s hard to add all of that with just one player but hard doesn’t mean impossible and this clearly explains why the Knicks main target in free agency is currently Al Horford let’s break down all of these latest reports that we have here from NBA insider with sny Ian Bley according to Begley he gives us the following information on where the Knicks cap currently stands according to him the Knicks are currently at 199 million in team salary per Yozi Goolan on capshets.com’s website this leaves them roughly 8 million shy of the second apron and roughly 4 million over the first apron they can use the 5.6 million taxpayer exception to sign free agents contracts signed with this exception can be no longer than two years and contain 5% raises you can split the exception to sign multiple players the Knicks can also use the veterans minimum to also sign free agents so they have a couple of tools at their disposal in free agency but here’s the main question who are their possible targets now there are a lot of them but you can see the main one on the screen right now it’s Boston Celtics big man Al Horford begley continues here by stating “I think the Knicks will look at the guard market for a bench player.” Also ESPN reports that Celtics veteran Al Horford will have a robust market this off season i think the Knicks will also at least check in on Horford’s situation in Boston the Celtics already shed salary by trading Drew Holiday and Kristophs Porzingis and they certainly want Horford back but they’re limited in what they can offer the veteran big man something else to note here according to Ian Begley Al Horford has a close relationship with Carl Anthony Towns given his relationship with Carl Anthony Towns his skill set the fact that he’s a big man that can come off the bench for New York and I understand his age right now doesn’t look great and when you look at the other rookies on the team and you’re looking at Ariel Huckporty potentially you might be saying to yourself why would the Knicks sign Al Horford if they have somebody like Ariel Huckporty off the bench who can be that backup center well here’s the thing al Horford can be a backup center or he can be a backup power forward that’s because of the way he spaces the floor and the way he can shoot one of the best things to understand here is the Knicks new double big lineup if they add Al Horford because that means your second unit potentially you can have a front court of Al Horford and Carl Anthony Towns what does that mean that means Towns can dominate like he was doing last season in terms of inside outside game and if he’s dominating inside that means somebody’s going to be open in the corner who’s going to be open in the corner probably Al Horford and at this stage of his career if you leave Horford open in the corner and it’s a three-pointer more times than not he’s knocking down that shot and that reason that three-point shot his abilities his skill set his relationship with Carl Anthony Towns his years of experience in this league championship pedigree these are all of the reasons the Knicks are targeting Al Horford they want him on this team they want him as a veteran presence as part of this bench as part of this locker room and to help the young kids grow and honestly speaking if you’re a big man in this game and you want to learn from the best right now you have Carl Anthony Towns and Al Horford on your team one of the best shooting big men in the modern game today and an NBA champion in Al Horford talk about lessons talk about experience these are the signings the Knicks need to make because they help them on a multitude of levels yes you add more talent yes you add more shooting but you also add that veteran presence that you need and now he doesn’t only have to be a veteran presence that doesn’t play PJ Tucker you can go ahead and not bring PJ Tucker back relieve yourself on the cap situation and still bring in a player that’s impactful and can help but that’s not the only update that we just received from Ian Begley it was a subtle update but I caught it did you guys Let’s take a look again as we see here Ian Begley reported “I think the Knicks will take a look at the guard market for a bench player.” So the Knicks are already limited with the amount of money they can offer different free agents and if we’re speaking openly and honestly here the Knicks are going to have to convince a lot of free agents to take less money and likely play less minutes to join this Knicks team but what’s going to be their selling point if they’re doing all of that join this Knicks team and you could potentially win a championship that’s what they’re going to do that’s how they’re going to sell everything and honestly it’s probably going to work new York was this close from the NBA finals the whole world saw that including current free agents and other trade targets that the Knicks have that means all they have to do is sell the market of New York sell this current version of this team and the future that this team has as well too and if there’s any man that’s going to do that the right way it’s going to be Leon Rose and that’s why I think a number of different free agents are going to join the Knicks this off seasonason and you’re going to scratch your head and think to yourself why are they joining the Knicks we’re going to have to wait and see exactly what free agents the Knicks go after we already know one of them Al Horford but who’s the other player we obviously know that the Knicks are looking to add another guard in free agency so you’re probably going to have to start there and look at the free agent market and see what guards are available and then once you identify those guards you’re going to have to understand their skill set and see if they’re a match for this team a match to fill in the gaps where we need and then once you’ve done that it’s time to elevate the rookies we don’t have room on our salary to go out in free agency and add four or five impactful key players we just can’t that means we can really only add maybe one or two key players after that it’s going to be up to the Knicks to elevate their rookies and fill in the gaps and I want to see Pakcom Dier have an elevated role Tyler Koh have an elevated role Ariel Huckporty have an elevated role and my dark horse who I believe if the Knicks start to play him they’ll start to see the comparison of Josh Hart 2.0 0 kevin McCuller Jr by far out of all of the rookies must get a bench spot next season because if he does you get two Josh Harts one that starts and one that comes off the bench and if that’s the case I can only imagine what that Knicks team is going to do next season and Leon Rose he’s gonna make the right moves for this franchise because each and every time he’s put in this position he does the
