Mavs Rumor: Kyrie Irving is going to sign a new contract with the Dallas Mavericks(!)

don’t make me say it don’t make me say it nico Harrison another good deal for the Dallas Mavericks kyrie Irving signs a new deal three years $119 million deal this is less than the player option that he was going to sign at least for that first year he’s definitely going to be making less he could have signed that four $43 million player option he could have picked that up and then he would have been an unrestricted free agent next summer and that would have been a whole mess and this one is about the same deal that he signed with the Mavericks last time he resigned with them a pretty good deal for him a pretty good deal for Kyrie even though he’s going to be missing the majority of next season with that ACL injury this is a deal for the Dallas Mavericks because because that deal now puts the Mavericks under the second apron the second apron is a threshold or a level of the salary cap tax where you have you have the you know above the salary cap then you have the luxury tax then you have an apron then you have another apron and the Mavericks would have been in that second apron the Suns are in that second apron right now and you can see the Suns are screwed they can’t do a bunch of different things they can’t send multiple of their own players out in a trade so they can’t trade two players they can only trade one player out like Kevin Durant and then get some players back they’re going to have draft picks frozen at some point there’s just a bunch of different restrictions with it and the Mavs because of Kyrie’s deal right now are under that second apron which is awesome it also opens up this $5.7 million tax mid-level exception as Mark Stein points out here and that is a deal that the Mavericks can offer a player even though they’re over the sal even though they’re over the salary cap they have that money that they can offer somebody and that’s more than the veteran mid the veteran uh minimum and so that’s enticing to a player like potentially a Chris Paul or a Malcolm Brogden or one of these guards the Mavs have been linked to and potentially go get because that’s more than the veteran minimum that they can get the Mavs also have opportunity so the Mavs are set up pretty good here so don’t make me say it again but I think this is another good move by Nico the Gaffford move was a really good one

  1. He’s been nothing but selfless for this franchise. Mavs have a very real chance in the next 3 years with Coop

  2. MFFL great fam def can't wait to hear " With the number one pick Dallas Maverick select" you the rest Let's Goooooooooo

  3. Nico is going screw you Mavericks fans. Just watch how bad things are going be. Kyrie wants a legacy, and he's hurt. So he would not be made 43 million after his ACL trade surgery

  4. Under $40 million per year for Kyrie is a good deal in a vacuum. Medical science has advanced and ACL tears need not wreck careers. However, Irving is a small guard and I'm still cautious as to how this affects his career.
