The Magic Just ROBBED The NBA…
the Orlando Magic just robbed the NBA the NBA draft grades are in from Yahoo ESPN The Ringer everywhere that you can think of and they’re giving the Magic some very favorable grades we’re going to get into exactly what people are saying who exactly is Jace Richardson and Noah Penda what is their player outlook potentially how much time will we see them on the court next season in the NBA not just the G-League and just really try to dive deeper into the two selections that the Orlando Magic made in this past year’s NBA draft but first guys welcome into Magic Digest i’m your host Patrick Prevy this your one-stop shop for Orlando Magic basketball content here on YouTube make sure that you’re subscribed to the channel uh we’re trying to get to 2,00 hopefully uh before the season starts so by the end of the summer and it is the easiest and best way to support us here at Magic Digest obviously with the very first uh pick in the first round for the Orlando Magic um you know not not number one overall but with their pick that they had in the mid20s the Orlando Magic selected Jace Richardson a little bit on the smaller side let’s take a look at what his NBA draft analysis is and exactly what is his outlook look uh you guys can read some of this but we mentioned it in the previous video that he is a player that can score who in his final 15 appearances last year averaged 16.1 points per game 4.6 rebounds 1.7 assists really came on towards the later part of the year wasn’t exactly projected as a oneanddone type of player but he ended the year strong and parts of his game really do translate to the NBA level obviously concerns with his size and will or is the rest of his game uh developed enough to be able to handle the fact that he’s only 6 feet and half an inch and not the 63 that he was listed at originally at uh Michigan State he ended with 13 all Big 10 honors and was named to the Big 10 all freshman team now he had some pretty interesting uh shooting splits as the season went on but obviously he was more of a player that um like came on towards the end of the season so we’re kind of just judging based off that but 47% shooting from the field 42% from three-point range and obviously comes from uh an NBA lineage as we’ve seen pretty consistently over the last handful of years where his father was in the NBA father Jason Richardson played 13 years in the league uh Tomos said this about Jace Richardson jace is like a 3.9 student he speaks more languages i don’t even understand him he’s worldly he works on his game he doesn’t make a lot of mistakes if he does I’m going to tell him but if I tell him once he’ll probably uh it probably hits home so obviously that’s really good now some of the other projections uh coming for Jace Richardson Steph Curry I’m seeing I don’t know if the shot is that good uh and then he’s also talking about uh Clippers James Harden i’ve seen uh Jared McCain which I actually think is a pretty good comp but these guys 6’2 65 63 new York’s Cameron Payne is another uh guard that I have seen uh being you know project or you know kind of compared to Jace Richardson or you know vice versa if you will so obviously there’s some stretches uh that might be too much to compare to but I think it’s very interesting when I covered him last video I saw a lot of comments kind of writing him off a little bit because of his size obviously that is a concern um you and you don’t just want him to be that Cole Anthony replacement but if for the first couple years he is that kind of guy who comes off the bench can average you know eight points per game you know uh I think Cole Anthony was just under 10 points last season that’s a plus that’s a positive this is a rotational point guard for this team who could be a spark he’s not a traditional point guard but there is some upside here there is a player here that was very talented and if he come if he came on at the very end of the season there’s no reason that he can’t take that momentum and have a good summer league i don’t you know the size is a concern especially defensively but that’s not going to be why he doesn’t pan out in the league it’s going to be the fact that the rest of his game isn’t developed enough if there was any point in the NBA where you can survive as a six-foot flat point guard who’s still working on his offensive game it would be now and the Orlando Magic are a team that is looking for offense and Jace Richardson can provide so let’s move to the second round obviously Noah Penda was the second pick for this Orlando Magic team they moved up to go get him and there you know there were some you know slight eyebrows raised in in a sense but uh they were active on the second night swapped their uh two second round picks numbers 46 and 57 along with two future second round picks to climb all the way up to number 32 select noinda the front office has said that they really like him 67 wing guy who should be able to fit we we’re good on wings though now like like there is should be no other moves made as far as that is concerned now he might be a player who does spend some time in the G-League um they’ve traded now Orlando they’re uh four first given up a pick swap and dealt four second round picks for Bane and Nova Penda i’ve seen u it circulating around a little bit that is kind of the uh the bird’s eye view of the trade but let’s take a look at the draft analysis for him and who he is as a player obviously foreign born born in Paris France uh played overseas in the 2024 25 season averaged 2.2 points per game five rebounds 2.6 six assists 1.4 steals now that was in 26.6 minutes across 28 appearances has some really good international play as well competed in Euro Basket the Basketball World Cup uh and and that was both for the U7 and U19 teams uh so he’s got some really good uh experience under his belt and he’s definitely a player that I think has that upside he’s got the the size and the strength uh and the length to play at either forward spots he’s comfortable posting up uh and creating his own shot creating open looks for teammates he I think he’s got an underrated playmaking ability now from the little bit of film that I watched I think that is what I’ve seen but obviously if you’re more familiar with either of these guys I’ve done a fair amount of research on Jace Richardson at this point because I made a video prior to us drafting him but familiar more so on either of these guys drop it in the comments what do you think you know I don’t I mean if you think if you don’t think they’re going to pan out then you know that’s fine let me know um but obviously defensively he’s able to recover quickly and uh block shots at the rim i think he’ll be a good quality defender we’ve kind of seen a little bit of a these defensive guys are getting phased out here or these guys who weren’t the 3 and D type of players that we hope for and get replaced by more offensive oriented players uh Noah Penda could potentially provide some really good defense now Tristan Dilva I think that that is his spot next year as far as that first wing guy off of the bench or at least uh I’m hoping that he can take that position and run with it or Jamal Mosley does does uh run with it but uh Noah Penda I think could be really good but I think he’s going to spend some time in the G-League first and then obviously we’re going to have to assess where’s Caleb Houston’s uh sitting at and also what does this franchise think of Jet Howard i think them drafting Noah Penda might have just told us everything that we need to know but we’re going to see as the free agency period comes along now let’s take a look at what other people are saying they’ve gotten some good reviews and it hasn’t just been uh from one outlet it’s been from multiple uh this is ESPN they gave him a B+ grade there’s fun symmetry and Richardson going to one of his father uh going to one of his father Jason Richardson’s four NBA teams and I also like the value richardson was projected in the lottery before measuring in at a little over six feet uh in the NBA draft combine such dramatic shifts always confuse me richardson still produced at Michigan State orlando doesn’t need Richardson to contribute now but he can grow into a rotation player when the Magic are feeling the effect of giving up four firstrounders to acquire Bane orlando then paid a heavy price 4657 and he goes on to just talk about Penda shooting is a work in progress he hit under 70% of his free throws last season but there’s something there and obviously they gave up a lot um I think I agree completely and and also I believe Jace Richardson had uh the you know some some questions about his knee you see a guy drop that much there’s something there if you’re drafted in the mid20s for a guy who could have been you know mid first round to like very end of the lottery i mean we didn’t really see much of very end of the lottery with him but like it could have been around there one of the you know guards that could have went in front of some of the guys that we saw go before him um there’s there’s some optimism around there i I’m not gonna I’m not gonna write off a guy right right now especially um but this was written by the ringer i thought that this was a funny one i wanted to kind of bring this is on the other side loser the height filter in Orlando might this be the end of an era for the Magic after years and years drafting tall athletes with arms that go down to their shins the franchise has seemingly reached an epiphany this offseason maybe the biggest inefficiency within the Magic’s own philosophy is the fact that they’ve prioritized prospects capable of blocking out the sun over players that skills uh with skills that fill their needs uh moving towards that shooting shift we know that this team shot horribly last season one of the alltime or LA you know over the last 10 years worst shooting teams that we’ve seen in the NBA there’s something to this the fact that they’re kind of uh going into or or leaning into uh more shooting i I like it but I thought that that was funny c++ now this was a specific for Noah Penda um and this was a specific grade penda plays with a veteran veterans mind and winning mentality offering connective playmaking switchable defense and high level feel it’s a bit of a risk for Orlando though since Penda needs to improve his jumper to shine in the long term but his unselfish game and defensive utility give him a strong foundation to build on i think part of this grade is really just them moving up to get him but if you’re messing around with these second round picks I got to be honest get your guy if it takes a couple second rounders in that same draft and they were at the tail end of the second round go get him and I think that that’s part of why this is so low but still that was specifically on Noah Penda now this was another grade on Jace Richardson we’re seeing B+es guys it I’ve seen it plenty of areas where they’re giving him a A minus they’re not declaring these guy like the Orlando Magic front office losers in this uh the Magic needed backcourt depth and floor spacing with shooting after the Desmond Bane trade Richardson checks both those boxes he scores in many different spots and he did so with efficiency he even finished at the well at the well at the rim despite his size he can play on and off the ball and score at various levels but he was smaller than expected at the combine yes same same sort of deal obviously not a traditional point guard but you like to hear some scouts say that he can play on or off the ball it really doesn’t matter right now because we kind of also need a ball handler so if he was to be a guy who really kind of surprises and and takes on a heavier load and and plays more minutes I think that’s a major plus just to be able to get the ball out of Ber and Fran’s hands periodically through the game definitely a positive and you know we know Jayen S is going to be leading the offense hopefully you know fingers crossed as far as being that playmaking guy so having u somebody else who can kind of relieve him of his duties throughout the game could be a positive but still you know tempered expectations with Jace Richardson not going to rule him out noenda I think is a positive pick we’ll probably see him more in the G-League this year and just kind of I’m kind of just brushing off how much they gave up to go get him i think uh both picks I do like um and we’re just going to wait and see how they play in summer league i think it’ll be a fun time but let me know in the comments section down below what you think of those picks and if you know these guys extensively drop some knowledge in the comments always love to see it always love to hear it and I’ll see you guys next time with more Orlando Magic basketball content

I was happy they made a move in the second round. It’s not the guy I expected but I was happy. So many times they just sale them. Use them to get your guy and we will see. Not sure where he will get minutes. Jase may play more just from having more available minutes.
At least you're not screaming at me.
Let's go, Orlando Magic!
2nd round pick reminds me of a more athletic better scoring Boris Diaw. At best Jase could be another Isaiah Thomas.
Homer
If a player picked at the end of the first round makes the rotation, the pick was at least okay.
