BREAKING: Kristaps Porzingis is now an Atlanta Hawk after a 3-team trade.

welcome in to the Believe in Hawks Obviously this pod’s coming up This is a breaking news pod The Atlanta Hawks have made a major move already at the beginning of the off season as they have completed a three team trade to acquire Kristoff Porzingis from the Boston Celtics And this trade goes as such The Hawks Kristoff Porzingis in a second round pick from the Boston Celtics The Celtics get George’s Nang and a second round pick And then the Nets the third team in this deal get Terrence man and the Hawks 22nd overall pick in this year’s draft A huge move that S uh Soule has clearly made a statement saying that we are going to be active And I have also said that this could be a message to Trey Young telling him Trey we are going to build a winner around you And so obviously a lot of reaction is flying A lot of things are happening We don’t actually know what second round pick that we’re getting from Boston People are hopeful it’s a 32nd pick You move down 10 spots essentially and you get off man’s contract in Nang I’ll take it But we don’t know what that is officially yet But nonetheless if you look at just the move of Kristoff Porzingis to the Hawks what’s the number one thing that people have been talking about center You now get a 7273 center There you go There’s your size No more complaints about the center position Even though they do need to still add one more because of Kristoff Rosing does have injury concerns You do need a solid third center who is ready to play the games that he missed or if a Congo misses games as well But big move there You get your 7-3 center I’ve said multiple times on this podcast Quinn Snyder wants to play five out That’s something they’ve been unable to do with Flint Capella on the roster They could not play five out basketball Now they can play five out basketball It creates more spacing for Trey Young It creates more spacing for Tyson Daniels It creates more spacing for Zachary Rishet when they want to cut to the rim It creates more spacing for Jaylen Johnson if he wants to take someone you know and it just it allows them to play more of the style that Quinn wants to play And then also a big thing about this trade is one of the criticisms of Landry Fields is that people have felt like he’s been scared to make these types of trades he hasn’t been able to really broker these types of deals And to see Soule in his first off season as the guy the decision maker coming in and saying “This is the plan We’re going to make this happen and making it happen just kind of I think it eases tensions It eases people’s worries about a guy who some people looked at as inexperienced in this position like Landry was.” But the one thing Soule has is he came from San Antonio He’s been in a first class organization He came from Golden State when they were winning championships He’s been a part of those years So he has seen what it takes to build a winner and now he’s trying to bring that to Atlanta And that’s what this first move I think has done And like I said earlier this is a message to Trey Young Your extension is coming up Trey wants to make the playoffs Hawks trying to go ahead and show we are serious about trying to build a winner around you And listen it’s one of those situations where I compare this to Giannis a couple years ago Remember when Giannis kind of said “Hey if they don’t make moves I may be out.” And it made Milwaukee be aggressive I think that’s the year they got Damen Lillard If then Giannis signed his extension that could be what that’s what could be going on right now with Trey Young Now I don’t think I don’t know if Trey Young has done anything like that to the front office where he’s like “If you’ll just make certain moves I’m out.” Because we’ve been hearing that there’s been no talks of Trey being moved and Trey’s been locked in Sule said that on Monday the first time he talked to media for the first time since being in the new general manager role and you know with with a move like this today I see why Trey Young is locked in I think there’s a plan that they have that they’re trying to execute One of the other major points of this trade that I want to point out is the Hawks still have the 13th pick in the draft They still have the lottery pick I’ve said when they got the Kings pick it made that 22nd pick expendable If you remember I was saying you could do like a Terrence man and a 22nd pick and see what you could get And luckily it ended up working out You just also move George Dang at the same time And so you now keep the 13th pick It makes that 13 teeth pick have even more eyeballs because now you’re wondering who are the Hawks taking do you still go center get you a third center because remember here’s the thing people have to look at Kristoff Porzingis I believe is on an expiring contract He has one more year left before he’s a free agent So the Hawks may already still be planning for the future after Kristoff Porzingis So that’s something to keep an eye on Kristoff Porzingis on an expiring deal something to keep an eye on for sure But what do you do with the 13th pick do you go wing now because it because first now that you have him you could go back to a Larry Nance You could go I mean Mo Gay can play the five if needed I’ll be curious to see how they view that position after this move But at the same time I also look at when you make this move we’ll have a better idea of what they want to do going into free agency because people forget free agency begins on Sunday That like this week we just crowned a champion Sunday we making trades Monday Tuesday the draft is Wednesday and then Sunday is free agency So this is going to be a very active week And the Hawks have been named multiple times Shams earlier today before this trade even mentioned the Hawks could make a move because they have that TPE They have the biggest TP in the league which I think is 25 million and they have said that they’re planning on using it So said when he talked to the media we are planning on using it They are looking to acquire assets or they’re looking to acquire a player that can make a difference Some names we’ve heard Cam Johnson Jonathan Kaminga I’ve seen Dylan Dylan Brooks thrown around I don’t know at this point if you’re making that move but clearly the Hawks are trying to upgrade this roster and this entire bench especially is going to be reformed This is going to be a brand new bench next year The bench is the key to this team When the Hawks were at their best they had an elite bench They’ve kind of had to reshuffle some things Now it looks like we have their first component because some people are asking who’s going to start a Congu or KP and I said and this is what I honestly said I said to me if I’m the Hawks I’m starting O And and for the O haters hear me out The reason why is listen think about DeAndre Hunter What’s the one criticism of DeAndre Hunter couldn’t stay healthy A lot of people think he couldn’t play starter minutes He couldn’t take those minutes Moved him to the bench He was healthy Balled out If Christopher’s health is a very big issue for you then you may need to look at that and take maybe the same approach have them come off the bench You can easily interchange who finishes games If you’re playing a bigger team of unique size you can fingers uh finish with KP If you’re playing a smaller team and or a Kongu’s having a really good game you can finish with O That’s as simple as it gets to me And then that way you don’t have to ask Christopher to play 30 minutes tonight You can play him 20 25 minutes He can stay healthy He doesn’t have to put his body through that type of strangulation and he can maybe play in more games and stay healthier throughout the year So that’s just me right now when it comes to the center position But obviously if they go with KP I’m not gonna be mad I’m not gonna be tripping about it All right But I just feel like right now you have a very solid one-two punch at the center position with Jaylen Johnson So I’m really excited for that Um you know it it just like I said overall Soule man coming out the gates making moves making things happen you know and I’m and I’m very interested because here’s here’s a tweet that Jake Fischer just sent out He said “The Hawks have been looking for adv uh advantageous ways or advantage you look they’re looking for an advantage with trades with their 25 million TPE and still maintain that tool by sending out Terrence man and George Ning Atlanta is 30 million below the tax line and is still open to business sources say potentially in the sign and trade market as well So Hawks seem to be open for business We’ve heard them being a part of sign and trades We’ve heard them trying to acquire players and I think what happens now is it just feels like the options are endless What are the Hawks going to do what’s next you’ve added Kristoff Rosing You’ve gotten off man’s contract Now you never have to watch the replay of man knocking over the Miami Heat player and costing us possession in the playin game George Dang I’m a mitchy wagon but I’m not mad at the move you essentially replaced Yang with Kristoff Porzingis I’m happy with that I think you guys are too So you know big big moves Like I said right now for Atlanta um I think I think the league is is buzzing You still have two picks in this year’s draft You’ve improved your shooting You’ve improved Even though Kristoff isn’t known as a shot blocker he can block shots I mean it’s it’s looking it’s it’s looking good It’s looking good right now Uh I’m happy about what what the Hawks were able to pull off We’re about to start the Soule Masterass uh memes up So can’t wait you know what happens And listen some people are wondering do you even go with some lineups where you put JJ at the three O and Kristoff at the five that may be something they experiment with I mean this gives them a lot of flexibility with that front court A lot of flexibility And then to see who they are with that 13th pick to see who they because to me with them reforming the bench it makes me feel even more certain that whoever they draft at 13 is going to play just because based off what it looks like Now obviously we have to see how the entire off season goes but you know it makes me feel like all right there’s a strong chance they’ll they’ll take a guy who they think they can that could play So does that mean they take maybe an older player that maybe is more NBA ready to play today than maybe a younger guy i don’t know It really just depends on who the player is and the talent So I’m you know I’m all in I’m excited Hawks making a big trade Nyang goes to Boston Man goes to Brooklyn Hawks get Kristoff Rosing and a second Hawks send their 22nd pick to Hold on Let make sure I got to look at the details I forgot already Um okay So let’s get the 22nd pick and the George Nyang and the Boston Sussex get a second round pick They obviously get to go bal apron which is something they wanted to do um and so on and so forth So I want to hear you guys’ thoughts on the move What do you think are you excited are you happy i know a lot of people were mixed on Christophering just because of what we’ve seen But in terms of what the Hawks may need from him I think this could be a really strong deal and I’m fine with it I’m I’m happy with it and I’m and I’m just I’m just curious of what’s next What’s next for the team what’s next for the Hawks i know they’ve been kind of shopping man um you know behind the scenes a little bit Brad posted a text about that Uh so I’m I’m curious to see you know what else because I mean essentially they you’ve heard that they want to resign Caris Levert That’s one move Um you’ve heard that you know we heard tradeup talks I think that’s dead now with this trade So if anything you’re probably staying put at 13 unless you make another trade for another player which you could wait the 13th pick Um you know I mean obviously Kobe Buffkin could he potentially still be moved i mean like I said opportunities and and the and the ideas are endless right now for what the Hawks could do next with what has happened but overall Hawks big deal Kristoff Porzingis Hawks top six looks really good O KP center position Jaylen Johnson great front court Trey Young a message being sent We are trying to build a winner in a wide openen Eastern Conference Let’s see what’s next for the Hawks The draft is still to come You know we will be on top of that especially after what happened today and whatever they do for the rest of this week and the rest of the offseason So I appreciate you guys tuning in to Believe in Hawks for this episode If you enjoyed 1. I don’t give a shit about what Trae wants but I do want a good team. I don’t like losing our 22nd.
It’s BPA & Saleh told you that.

  2. Great show. With the 13th pick, if CMB is gone, I think they should trade down. If we are resigning CL, we need size and shooting at the wing imo.

  3. Nobody should complain about this move! We been asking for size & got it. I’d rather have a vet than a rookie at this point & KP brings championship experience

  4. You sound a lot happier on your opening statement. I had a mini celebration last night for Saleh! 🙌🏾🙌🏾🙌🏾
