The Boston Celtics Are Preparing For The Unthinkable

The Boston Celtics Are Preparing For The Unthinkable

after a decade of calculated moves from Danny A and Brad Stevens the Celtics finally crafted basketball perfection their starting five was simply special any offense that Drew Holiday and Derek White provided that felt like a luxury they anchored a defensive back court that felt unmatched in today’s NBA they had arguably the league’s most imposing duo since Mike Connley and Tony Allen had opposing offenses shaking in Memphis jaylen Brown and Jason Tatum shouldered the scoring load dominating offensively while maintaining lockdown defense also and in the middle Chris Porzingis stretched the floor and locked down the rim rounding out a lineup built for dominance on both sides of the ball the Celtics took the phrase that you’re only as strong as your weakest link very seriously with their starting five their eliteness on both sides of the ball and a modern approach to the game with them opting to bury their opposition with threes overwhelmed opponents and even though the Celtics took by far the most threes that season averaging 47.2 threes per game over five more than the next team unlike the rest of the NBA the Celtics were taking good threes what I mean by that is they actually had good players taking good shots this is what happens when the floor is spread and everybody on the floor is able to generate a good look for the next guy this takes a level of buyin and unselfishness from everybody on the floor including the team star players Jason Tatum and Finals MVP Jaylen Brown even as a mid-range apologist I could appreciate what the Celtics were doing they were strapping you down on one end and then bombing you from deep on the other during the 23-24 regular season they generated the most open threes per game generating 17.4 and that went up during the playoffs with them generating 18.1 everybody hated it but it worked the Celtics won it all the Boston Celtics didn’t just win a chip a year ago they were by far the best team all year long dominant on both sides of the floor balanced versatile deep and extremely efficient to the point to where the entire league believed that they were going to form an unstoppable dynasty however 12 months later the picture has changed completely not only have the Celtics suffered a disappointing elimination at the hands of a team that wasn’t even able to win the conference in the playoffs but they’ve also lost their star player to one of the worst injuries an athlete can suffer an Achilles tier suddenly a bright future would be completely darkened and the question on everyone’s mind would be “What in the world happens now?” With the Celtics making their first major moves of the offseason we now have an idea and it’s crazy those Celtics man but before we continue if you are enjoying the content then be sure to like the video subscribe and turn on notifications it’s all so small but it all helps the channel in a major way the Celtics have been in the kitchen trying to cook and I would be jealous of their overall activity but my team pulled off a heist getting Jordan pulled to New Orleans it’s about to be a pool party in New Orleans you guys know that I’m loving all of that but that will have its own video so back to the freaking Celtics monday the Celtics would continue to show us why they are the most successful basketball team in NBA history monday the news would break that the Celtics would be trading Drew Holiday back to the Portland Trailblazers for Afne Simons and two second round draft picks when Brad Stevens gets in his bag he digs deep because how in the world did the Celtics get two second round picks back in this trade the Portland Trailblazers initially acquired Drew Holiday on September 27th 2023 as part of a three-team trade that sent their longtime franchise cornerstone Damen Lillard to the Milwaukee Bucks in return the Blazers received Holiday DeAndre Aton Tomani Kamar a first-round draft pick and two first-round pick swaps at the time the deal was appropriately labeled as the Damen Lillard trade reflecting Lillard’s status as a perennial all-star and AllNBA talent who showed no signs of slowing down coming off of a season in which he averaged 32.2 points 7.2 assists and 4.8 ate rebounds on career best efficiency lillard remained one of the NBA’s most lethal deep range threats he was now headed to Milwaukee to pair up with Giannis Takmpo arguably the game’s most dominant modern player meanwhile Drew Holidayiday found himself sent to Portland a situation widely viewed as a career deadend for a veteran still capable of highlevel contributions at age 33 given all this context labeling the trade after Damen Lillard was completely justified but ever since this trade happened it would be Drew Holiday and not Damen Lillard who has been the most impactful and successful part of it this is something that I might not be saying if Dame falls into a more stable situation in Milwaukee or if Drew never gets rerouted to Boston just days after the trade goes down 4 days after being sent to Portland the Trailblazers would send Holiday to the Celtics in exchange for Robert Williams III Malcolm Brogden and two firstround picks this trade put the Milwaukee Bucks in a tough spot by sending Drew Holiday to a contender that ultimately ended up winning a championship however it made sense for Portland as they were fully committed to acquiring as many assets as possible having recently drafted Scoot Henderson third overall and Shaden Sharp the year before Portland was simply doing what any smart team would stockpiling assets to support their young core when the time was right the trade made sense but trading back for Drew Holiday at the expense of losing Afrony Simons does that make sense it does from the viewpoint of this team just wanting nothing to do with Anthony Simons like if Anthony Simons just woke up every morning on the wrong side of the bed and was constantly tanking their basketball environment with a bad attitude then the trade made sense unfortunately I don’t think that was the case at all you could say that they wanted to move him just to make more space for Scoot and Shaden which I thought is what would happen when they first drafted Scoot but even then Drew plays the same position as these guys and Afrne Simons only has one year left on his contract where he makes $27 million whereas a 35-year-old Drew has two years left at around $34 million a year on top of a $37 million player option for the 2027 2028 season he’ll be 37 when that season starts and while it makes sense for young teams looking to take that next step to add experienced veterans especially elite defenders like Drew Holiday it’s hard to justify the steep price that this rebuilding team paid and is going to have to pay when he’s 37 because what nons superstar isn’t opting into that money at 37 drew remains one of the league’s best on ball defenders and certainly qualifies as a super vet but Drew Holiday averaged just 11.1 points this past season on 44.3% and he ain’t getting any younger reports are also saying that he doesn’t appear to be too happy about the move to Portland and that another trade is possible one thing that I learned about Drew’s time in New Orleans is that Drew is the ultimate pro even if he was per se not happy about being dealt to the Blazers if it had come down to it and he remained a Blazer he’d quickly become a fan favorite that said given the state of the Blazers roster it’s likely that Drew will be traded again the Blazers appear positioned to be very active going forward i would actually assume that Drew gets packaged with somebody else on their roster he would make an amazing trade sweetener for a team that was willing to take on his contract then we have the Celtics getting after Simons an explosive but undersized two guard at 6’3 that averaged 19.3 points on 42.6% from the field 2.7 rebounds and 4.8 assists simons is undeniably a talented scorer and while he doesn’t bring much else his scoring alone could offer significant value for a Celtics team that’s missing 26.8 points per game for a large part of the 2526 season the catch is that he might play some of the worst defense that you’ve ever laid your eyes on but if he’s not doing that then everything is good am I the only one that’s sad that we won’t get to see a fully unleashed Peyton Pritchard this season like I really wanted to see Boston let this man loose but this works too and it’s something that was necessary to save the Celtics a ton of cash we’ll talk about the massive number that they save after I present you guys with their next deal i’m saying all of this like the Celtics are keeping Simons right now anything can happen which means that me and Payton Pritchard might still get our wish payton is a little too old for a Brunson leap but I still think that there’s another level in there that we haven’t seen yet so this Tuesday we would get another trade from the Celtics this time we would see them sending off Chris’s Porzingis in what would be a three team deal the Hawks would receive Chrisaps Porzingis and a second round pick the Nets would receive Terrence Mand and the number 22 pick and the Celtics would receive George Niang and a second round pick i just want to focus on this trade for the Celtics i’ll break down what it means for the Nets and the Hawks in a later video so the Celtics traded Drew Holiday and Chrisaps Porzingis for George Niang Afne Simons and three second round picks this trade might not be the return many Celtics fans envisioned for two players who played crucial roles for that 2024 championship acknowledging of course that Chris missed most of that playoff run still credit where it’s due ultimately this was exactly the type of move that Boston needed to save some money with these moves the Celtics were able to get under the Second Apron and according to Bobby Marx they were able to save 180 million in luxury taxes on what was projected to be a combined payroll and tax bill of over $500 million next season may 1st Sham said that the Celtics knew that come the 2025 off season that they would have to make some hard decisions given their payroll within the new CBA because the new CBA is one that severely punishes you once your payroll gets too high sham’s sources have been spot on with Celtics news recently so check this out they’re currently reporting that Boston is determined to hold on to Derek White and Jaylen Brown unless an overwhelming golfer emerges according to Shams those phone lines are ringing in Boston with teams actively making offers for both Brown and White while the Celtics prefer to keep both players and have set a high asking price they are still open and are listening to potential offers after the Celtics won a championship with a team built around the Jason Tatum man Jaylen Brown duo I never thought that I would see the day where either of these guys would be available for trade the NBA is a business i constantly have to remind myself that we should never get mad at players for acting in their own best interests anyways there’s some more going on in the basketball world that we have to be covering so clicking one of the videos that’s on the screen right now is a great way to support this channel i’m Get Like Coupe bringing you guys the scoop until 1. “They were strapping you down on one end and then bombing you from deep on the other” ayyyyyooo we gotta pause that one chief 😂

  2. Unrelated to the video.. but I bet the Pacers are unfortunately going to be a low 40 to mid 40 wins per game team next year with the loss of Haliburton. But I'm hoping that our young cats take another leap and Jarace Walker starts to assert himself. That's my hopeful upside. Maybe he can return in time for the playoffs.. maybe not.

  3. I think jrue holiday in Portland is a good move to help develop the younger guys and guide the locker room and I think it frees up there other young guards more so than having simones would

  4. Im really concerned about the rise in Achilles injuries for players. 30% of nba achilles tears have hsppened in the last 10 years

  5. Wit the new cba rules the league is going young, with one (or if your team owner has deep pockets-two) max contract. Most teams aren’t trying to stay in the second apron let alone the THIRD. I’ve been saying this since two years ago, the nba since then is going to look drastically different because of the cba. Most of the ppl I’ve been talking really don’t understand it, however those who do are generally skeptical bcz it means homegrown teams can’t be together for more than their rookie contracts allow and put-together teams like the Celtics or nuggets LITERALLY have two years to win. So in my opinion dynasty’s are practically over with. Which is…. Kinda lame

  6. They're doing exactly what they should have done with a team that ridiculously expensive but with zero near term future thanks to Tatum's Achilles. Blowing it up was the only sensible option.

  7. Respect. Celtics next year are the same team only less. Top-tier is not only outrageous taxes but also blocks most trade possibilities. Porzingis is an injury possibility and Jrue is awesome but old and overpaid.

  8. I'm not sure why you're surprised about JB being traded. JB+JT max contract would have over $600 million committed to just those two.

  9. Can’t tell me the Blazers and Celtics aren’t colluding. This the type of trade you have to force the CPU to agree to on 2K

  10. Hey man, your channel is awesome but you do yourself a disservice with the easy thumbnails. I thought this was a slop channel bro. Please set your channel apart because your content is SUPER DOPE! Peace!

  11. I guarantee that if the Lakers had the best roster in the NBA with a chance at a dynasty, this new BS CBA would've never been approved.

  12. They aren't trading jaylen brown. The trade package it would require is ridiculous, people really need to let this go. Mike Zarren said that they weren't actually considering trading JB or White, teams get calls for their stars constantly, but because the larger fan base of the NBA hates the Celtics they have been wishing they blow up a championship duo for going on 8 years now. Tatum is 27, Brown is 28 with 6 ecf appearances, 2 championship appearances and 1 championship win. If the trade isn't a top 10-15 player plus compensation they aren't going to do it, this narrative really needs to stop it's annoying every off-season the speculation based on pretty much feelings and vibes.

  13. i dont wanna sound crazy but defense wins championship
imagine if nico trades coop for pack of smokes and drew
