ESPN latest on Rockets trading for Derrick White – Jaylen Brown to Spurs? – Giannis to Nuggets?
eventful couple of months for the Boston Celtics first Jason Tatum is likely to miss all of next year after rupturing his Achilles in game four of the Eastern Conference semi-finals and we know what he can do an allNBA player that’s averaged at least 25 points in each of the last five seasons then on Monday Boston traded Drew Holiday to the Trailblazers for Anthony Simons the Trailblazers also take on $72 million owed to Holiday the next two years and then the Celtics GM Brad Steven just continued to cook on Tuesday they shipped off Kristoff Porzingis in a three-team deal the pair of trades puts the Celtics under the second tax apron saving a projected $180 million in tax penalties so Shans they’ve come out of this having saved millions of dollars and they’ve added assets in the process what more can you tell us about what might be coming next for Boston i’m told they are getting phone calls on Jaylen Brown and Derek White the Celtics of course their preference would be to keep both players but there is a level of listening going on here they have set a very high price threshold for both players so it would really take a massive offer to get either player uh for sure and and at the end of the day they did accomplish their goal this week they got out of the second apron by trading away Drew Holidayiday and Christos Porzingis they’ve shed $180 million but they are still in the first apron they’re still a luxury taxpaying team next season is that the lane that they want to be in with the uncertainty of Jason Tatum so their phone lines are open it’s not definitive that they’re going to trade either one but they are listening across the board
yeah Chennana the Celtics don’t win a championship last year without the contributions of Drew Holiday and Chris Das Porzingis what’s your reaction to Boston making these moves i don’t know how my brother Shams can say that with a straight face because this is wild that they’re taking phone calls on Jaylen Brown and Derek White it’s wild but it is the reality of the current state of the NBA yay I made Sean smile while he’s still doing his work but if you think about it when it comes to the Boston Celtics this is interesting because I think right now we see that you can’t just have one two three stars in that type of payroll you have to have one central star and then you have to build a supporting cast but the real interesting thing also here is the fact that we’ve had seven different champions in the last seven seasons it is so hard to repeat and we all felt a year ago that this team was primed to do so not based with the second apron with the finances new ownership we’re going to look at a new look Boston Celtics i’m really surprised that we’re at this point but it is the reality that many teams are facing
look I will say covering the Celtics for about three years is like a ritual every offseason calls are coming in for Jaylen Brown so I’m trying to figure out what’s really what’s not happening every single offseason uh with so many question marks in the East Chenet for teams like the Celtics the Pacers and the Bucks which team is in a best position to capitalize on all this uncertainty right now in the East you know which team that’s like looking to the left and looking to the right and I did that backwards which is wild for me but it’s been a long day um and is panicking and like oh my gosh how do we get to this position where we just have to act cool it’s the Cleveland Cavaliers they’re like looking around like “Oh my goodness.” Where a lot of people were worried and panicked uh a month or so ago knowing that this was one of the top teams in the NBA now you’re looking at this roster saying this actually might be the team that can compete for the future right now given the opportunity given the nature of it being so wide open i mean Donovan Mitchell had probably his best year when you combine his basketball play but also his IQ and his leadership they have depth evan Mobley defensive player of the year you know you look at the squad on both ends they were top of the league top 10 offensive rating and defensive rating they’re like “Oh don’t panic now guys like we might actually be able to accomplish what we wanted maybe a year later but that might be better for us.” Yeah the Shams now we look towards the Rockets because they also had a great year and this morning you had some news coming out of them with Fred Van Vleet what more can you tell us i’m told Fred Vanbley has reached agreement on a 2-year $50 million contract to stay with the Rockies he’s going to have a player option the second year of that deal so the Rockets are declining a $44.9 million team option and they negotiated this new deal with Clutchport CEO Rich Paul but this gives the Rockets a level of flexibility this year it’s lower than that team option number and this is on the heels of over the last 11 days Steven Adams reaches an extension i Udoka reaches a big extension and then you get that blockbuster acquisition of Kevin Durant this is obviously a Rockets team that’s positioning themselves to compete for a championship in the Western Conference you think back two years ago when Tilman Fertitta and that Rockets organization went out and got Dylan Brooks and Fred Van Fred Vanble they’re in a much different place two years later come on
we know you want to know it’s in heaven shams all of your Rockets updates have freaked me out but guess what the news on the other side of it have been fabulous and he’s absolutely correct this is a team we know the West is wild it’s going to be difficult for anybody to go up there and rival the Thunder but the Rockets are making all of the right moves they addressed their needs in Kevin Durant because this was a team that really struggled making jumpers strugg struggled in the mid-range struggled in the half court you plug that hole you keep your coach you retain veteran leadership in Van Fleet and Ste Steven Adams you retain uh Alprin Shenon Jabari Smith Jr you guys know the list goes on and on a man Thompson even Reed Shepard the Rocket
to Portland Christophs Porzingis to Atlanta what do you think about what Brad Stevens is doing Ashley
um I just want to say he is better in the front office and behind the scenes than he ever was as a coach and that is no shade this I mean what this man has been able to do first of all you’re able to flip someone of Drew Holiday’s age and this is no knock i still think he’s a phenomenal player defensively he’s a unicorn we don’t see guys like this anymore but to flip Drew Holiday for everything multiple picks and a player under the age of 30 Simons is what I believe 26 years old that in itself is impeccable i don’t know what the Portland Trailblazers love affair is with Drew Holiday they keep trying to get their claws into him they finally did but um the way that he’s been able to get the Boston Celtics in that second apron below the second apron without really being too messy is very impressive that is a veteran front office guy he knows what he is doing it is impeccable but I will say this I still think there’s more dominoes to fall in the Boston Celtics organization i don’t think we’re done seeing moves i think that you know with the sale of the Boston Celtics and the payroll being so high and this year essentially being a wash because Jason Tatums is probably going to miss most of if not all of this regular of this season or upcoming season i think that the Celtics are going into semi next chapter mode and saying we’re gonna have Tatum obviously but maybe this year is a wash and maybe this is the year that we figure out what this new variation of the Boston Celtics are going to look like that’s how it’s looking at least
i still think they’re going to play the same style i still think they’re going to spread you out they’re going to shoot a lot of threes simon’s one of the best three-point shooters in the Western Conference he kind of fits in with him and Pritchard and Jaylen Brown i still think they’re going to be a playoff team be a top six team in the Eastern Conference things could still change and there are reports that there are teams with top 10 picks who are calling the Celtics saying hey what can we do to get a a Jaylen Brown or to get you know one of your star that would be a mistake
yeah Avery said yesterday no Jaylen Brown’s off limits but Derrick White if we can get a few first round picks for him then maybe I I want to mention this because it’s less sexy and we kind of joked about the Drew Holiday thing if you were following Portland late in the year last here they got hot there’s talent there you know what they’re missing a veteran presence a guy who’s been a professional who’s been through the wars like you brought Fred Vanble into Houston boom 41 wins boom 53 wins two years drew Holiday goes to point i’m not saying they’re going to be a top five team in the Western Conference but they got some young guys that can play and they started to go late in the year last year the eight and thing hasn’t worked out as normal but like that’s a squad I’m already thinking over that’s a regular season team that I think is going to be hovering right around 500 it’s a fantastic move for Portland
i I think that going back to Jaylen Brown specifically that would be a mistake i agree with Coach Avery uh moving him for multitude of reasons one is you want some remnants of of um what’s the word I’m looking for chemistry yes thank you for Jason Tatum when he returns and if you completely change this Boston Celtics team that is going to put the entire trajectory of this team in disarray because now essentially you’re starting from scratch if Jason Tatum comes back and now has to figure out how to play with four new guys when you have Jaylen Brown there it’s a little bit more seamless because I do think the Celtics are not done making moves i don’t think the tandem the duo of Jaylen Brown and Jason Tatum needs to be broken there’s nothing wrong with them they work well together if you want to figure out how to move all the other pieces around them sure that makes sense it is a lot of money and now they’re below that second apron which is what they wanted but if you get rid of Jaylen Brown I believe you put the trajectory of this Boston Celtics team way back and you want to keep the train on the tracks you don’t want to derail it and I feel like that would be a huge mistake so hopefully they’re not doing that second Apron was the talk yesterday out of Denver because they you know they had their brass up there saying “Hey I maybe we have to trade Jokic down the road.” You have other superstars that that could be on the move as well like Giannis we’ve talked about him is there any chance we get some movement on on him obviously we know he wants to win right now and I’m not sure he believes he could do that in Milwaukee
i think he should be on the move i I don’t know if he will pull the
Why are you putting your hands like that if you’re running the Bucks you’re cutting them loose
no no i’m saying if I’m Giannis I’m asking to be moved
are you honest i I think both i think Giannis should ask me the Bucks there’s no way the Bucks are moving them unless he asked to be moved there’s no way
here’s why the if you really look in the mirror and you’re like can we win an NBA championship with this roster the the answer is absolutely not
i agree completely okay
but you’re not dumping Giannis to make that work you’re dumping everyone around him and then rebuilding with him at your center yeah i think you go and it was a great run thanks you just blow it up way that’s like having who’s your celebrity crush
everybody
it used to be Jessica Alba
okay let’s say you have Jessica Alba on your arm and you know you say you know what it’s been a good run Jessica but I’m going to go this like you don’t nobody does that nobody does that
dallas just did it to Luca so it does happen
besides Jessica Alba but I mean
Okay so they just did so my point is if you could go get a bag if you can go get uh an OKC bag what they got for Paul George you have to start looking in the mirror and being like we’re really not going to win unless they completely rebuild the team if you’re a Bucks fan you have to be like we tried we brought in Lillard we traded Chris Middleton we brought in Koosma like they tried a whole plethora it’s not working it’s over there in Milwaukee
i think it would be I believe it’s over but I think it would be insanity if the Bucks said Giannis we’re going to cut you loose without Giannis saying he wants to be cut loose but I will say Giannis should see the writing on the wall with this Milwaukee Bucks team you have Damen Lillard he’s gonna miss substantial amount of time he’s of a certain age after Giannis and Dame we saw this even in the regular season the roster is extremely thin you brought Koozma in he was supposed to give a spark to this team it didn’t work there’s just no future right now immediately they have no picks they have no capital
can I give you
I just If I’m If I’m Milwaukee I’m I’m entertaining the San Antonio Spurs can we give you Giannis for that second round pick
if you’re Giannis
that second pick
what team would you want to go
san Antonio send me to San Antonio wby dear with YMI on the same team that
send me to San Antonio because I I thought of all the teams Durant could have went to i thought that was the perfect fit i really could not think of it better i thought that was like perfect for exactly what they needed
giannis in WBY oh that would be musty
yes it would um let’s let’s move on to to the Brooklyn Nets who have the most picks tonight in [Music] Get more say Foreign speech foreign speech foreign speech foreign speech foreign speech foreign speech you think that’s The music or something get that one i mean [Music] for [Music] the tail foreign speech foreign speech foreign speech

No way Giannis goes to the nuggets. Him and Joker on the same team. No way. That is way too insane
Chiney Calm down Doll 😁💯
To get rid of Brown and put the franchise on the back of Tatum coming off and Achilles injury!! That's a stupid decision.
It is truly a disposable society. With all due respect to Brad Stevens, he should have demonstrated some degree of compassion and professionalism to two former Allstars, KP and JH, that helped make the 18th banner a reality. Jrew Holiday has already voiced dissatisfaction with his trade to Portland. Were they consulted or given some voice as to where they might be headed. Only a year ago they were welcomed with open arms, the saviors, and now dumped in some obscure NBA teams to make the financials healthier. Brad, why did you commit over 650mil to the Js as if they were the best 2 basketball players in the league?…they are not! Where was the advance thinking on that? The organization handcuffed itself with a substantial luxury tax not allowing to either to keep the team in tact or raise the talent level off the bench. Well, future elite players might think twice about buying Brads BS to join the Celts and then get booted out like some insignificant pawns. It's not all about dollar and cents when dealing with human beings with families.
