    This is when the new ownership steps in and gives LeBron James an ultimatum because if they don’t they are no different than the previous ownership. And if this is truly going to be Luca’s team LeBron James has got to go. I don’t know how you spend 10 billion dollars on a franchise and let one player keep your team in a strangle hole.

    I think lebron opting and not yet retiring (if thats what he will do) either means he will leave nxt season and retire a cav or will take a discount nxt yr when FA pool is better.

    I think its just posturing by dfs and the lakers and they will agree on a deal soon. A 3 yr 45M deal w/ a team option on the 3rd would be ok value for both teams and will likely have minimal effect on lakers cap flexibility in 2026 if all expiring contracts (including lebron) expire. Just subtract 15M (or inverse add to the books lol) in the cap space projected to be at 50-70M. With dfs on the books, it subtracts a projected open roster charge of 1.1M on the books and added to the cap space.

    For centers, I am in favor of stopgap veteran or non proven young players as option/s if the asking price in the trade market is too high. Better conserve the 31st, pick swaps, (plus wait for future picks to be available) and let DK develop then trade them than use them rn when teams are asking too much from the lakers.

    I expect AR to return and sign a market value contract (25-35M) with the lakers since they have his bird rights and he has a relatively low cap hold (20ish M) compared to his projected market value. The lakers can use all their projected cap space (and room exception) in 2026 free agency (estimated to be between 50-70M, some even 80M, room exception at 9.6M) to sign free agents then go over the salary cap (projected to be at 170M) to resign him and still be well below the luxury tax line projected at 206M.

    Honestly, I think that Walker Kessler is the guy that you should be willing to overpay for in a trade. If they were willing to give up what they did for Mark Williams, why not for someone who’s arguably better with higher upside and younger?

    A couple of things. 1) Just because he picks up his option, doesn't mean he and the Lakers can't come back to the table and renegotiate. Picking up his option, from a player standpoint, it at least guarantee's he knows what he's making that year unless he gets cut, etc. If he were to turn down the option, then they have to come back and negotiate from scratch… which means the Lakers really have all the leverage. I would not have turned down the player option if I were him. If team wants me to take less to sign more talent, and it's coming out of my pocket, then show me what you are going to do with that money first. 2) It's a pride thing. Why would a LeBron take less, even at $52.6M, when he's only the 14th highest salary this coming season – guys making more that aren't even playing…LOL Check this out: https://hoopshype.com/salaries/players/.     Gabe, Dalton, Kleber to Chicago for Carter, Ayo, Smith. They get the recent first round pick. We get a legit sixth man in Ayo, and a decent backup center in Smith. Sign Capela to be the starter. Offer up Rui plus our first for an upgrade at the 3. Heck maybe even to Chicago for Patrick Williams.
