Pelicans Make MULTIPLE Moves… New Orleans Setting Up Something BIG | Pelicans News

the Pelicans make multiple moves as free agency begins signaling a new direction and setting the tone for possibly a big signing or a trade we’re going to take a look at some of the options the Pels could be getting into inside this edition of Pelicans Digest what’s good with it once again everybody it’s your people Mel of the Mic had to jump back on again because free agency is about to get started and there’s a lot of news already breaking going on all across the NBA so once again thank you so much for tuning in and thank you for subscribing man over 1500 subscribers now really do appreciate y’all rocking with us man i’m trying to catch up in these comments because y’all are going in and I appreciate it man really do as we talk about the Pelicans and free agency inside this episode and of course uh the breaking news earlier today was that the Pelicans have declined the club option on Alfred West Bank Payton i call him the best bank uh and unfortunately I think this is a good thing because the Pelicans have been playing with this man emotions all last year signing another 10-day contract then sign sending him to the G- League then signing him to another 10-day contract and they doing all this foolery with this man before finally giving him the contract and just go ahead and let this man go be great somewhere else man because you know it seemed like it couldn’t get him in the game and and he wasn’t really much of a factor so I can understand why letting him go was was uh the the the move to go to at this point in time to also clear up some cap space and also they had to let go of Brandon Boston Jr to decline this option as well and I’m kind of mad about that one because I like Brandon Boston Jr i really liked him i thought he uh gave some saw some flashes of brilliance here and there consistency not really there but I thought he was it was if he gave him some more game time and gave him some more reps I think he could have got over that uh good uh good uh three-point shooter so uh listen if you’re watching this and you’re a fan of another team go take a flyer out on Brandon Boston Jr i’m I’m just telling y’all right now that’s the thing to do uh but inside this episode we’re going to get into uh details on some of the uh free agent targets that the Pelicans should be going after and when you take a look at the Pel’s roster and and let’s take a look at the whole house so big shout out to Nola Pelicans on Reddit uh headed into free agency you just uh got rid of uh Payton and Boston so that leaves up some space especially in the guard room because you know you had eight eight guards I think with when you picked up Peavey and Furious and then picked up 11 guards at this point 10 11 guards in the room now so you had to get rid of two of them you got rid of the two that you needed so I don’t think the Pels need any more help in the guard section if that makes sense i mean you got Murray on IR so you’re going to have to probably fill up two more roster spots i really think they should only fill up one because you still got Dickson on a two-way and so you could bring him in uh but the main position I think the Pelicans should be taking a look at is possibly bringing in another guard maybe a seasoned veteran guard but I don’t want to go too old okay if that makes sense i don’t want them to go too old at the guard position and we’ll get into that into some of the guard options that they have in a second but one of the guards I think that the Pel should take a look at is uh right here Gary Trent Jr uh he’s about to become a free agent and his numbers they ain’t the greatest all right let me keep on hunting with you the numbers ain’t the greatest but at the same time he’s serviceable he’s has experience and he’s still pretty young at about 28 years old so I think you can have a great opportunity with him to step in and also take some mileage off of Fears or take some mileage off of uh Jordan Pool uh if you want to go that route or uh either one of those guards that’s that’s going to be more than likely starting at the start of the year and like you said you want some experience well he’s got experience i mean so I think that’s he’s a good option to take a look at and plus the Pels have some mid-level money to pay him so I think and also this might sound crazy but you also you know sort of move that Bucks pick up so you sort of move that Bucks pick up a little bit so you might want to take a look at Gary Trent Jr another Gary I think the Pel should take a look at is Gary Payton III uh from uh the Golden State Warriors again numbers not all that great but he’s got three rebounds and one assist and I think he’s also a player that you could take a look at and take a flyer on as far as in free agency to be that serviceable guard again that can take the pressure and take some of that mileage off of fears can take some of that mileage off of your starters uh so again not saying that these are guys that you should you know overpay for either you know what I’m saying i think you can get these guys in at a reasonable price if they’re free agents you know what I’m saying i don’t think you got to break the bank or go into the luxury tax to sign these guys so again I’m talking about serviceable veteran guards uh when we’re talking about these players now the other situation that a lot of people are clamoring for especially with the Pels is the uh find some rim protection find up some more backup situations uh for the center in the forward positions okay if if we’re going to do that then I’m with that okay one player I think you should take a look at if you’re going to do that even though I’m not really keen on it one player you should take a look at I think is Kavon Looney because that six rebounds a game i he likes that so me like he me like you a lot i like those six rebounds a game with Kon Looney especially in the backup role uh on this Pelicans team uh but you know I know a lot of y’all are clamoring for this guy Brook Lopez i don’t think we can afford him i don’t think we can afford Brook Lopez again he’s an older guy he’s what I think he’s about almost 40 down there i think he’s 37 years old at this point you we don’t really need super old veterans at this point because you have enough of a of a roster that has been in the league for several years at this point so you really don’t need any of these grizzled old veterans and I think somebody had asked the question before about Chris Paul again I I just don’t think I just don’t think that you could you should spend that much on on one of these older veterans like this uh I I think it also goes against something that I talked about in another video because see one thing you gonna find out about me is I’m consistent uh in an earlier video I spoke about how the plan with the Pelicans is for to surround Zion with younger talent and not necessarily old grizzled Valerant talent that is going to command the mid-level tax exception and all this other stuff that you got to pay 14 15 million dollars to okay i think you should get somebody that’s younger if you’re or if you’re going to use that money go throw it at somebody that’s younger and I think the one signing that we really need to be focusing on I think we really should uh pursue is Braxton Key braxton Key was the G-League defensive player of the year he’s 6’8 again I know he’s not a big center i know he’s not a super big but at the G-League defensive player of the year he had 18 points a game he also had nine assists uh nine rebounds a game and four assists plus two steals a game so if you if you want to go defensive and go towards the center position or in the forward position that maybe he could play in that center position i ain’t saying he again this is not a guy that has to start this is a guy who can back up ease missy and queen and other players and uh and other guys in the at least in the forward position you can have some flexibility there you also still got Makavic in the in the center position as well and you still got Dickerson on a two-way contract so you have enough big sufficient big space right there but I also don’t want to see the Pelicans blow the bank and I don’t think they’re going to blow the bank in free agency again there’s no big superstars on the line in this free agency market and you can see in the ticket below all the big names are going to go back to their teams so as if you’re hoping for LeBron or James Harden or some big name like that you can cancel Christmas on that you have to look at players that can be serviceable as far as backups in certain positions at this point in time just to fill up the roster and also if you can if you have the enough money you can go throw some value at some guys another name I see floating around is a sac a Sacramento player by the name of Jake Leavia uh uh according to article I read I think on ESPN that uh he’s a forward i think he’s uh 67 69 from Sacramento and he uh Sacramento can’t pay him they can’t pay him i think they can the max they can pay him is like2 to5 million so if you’re the pels you got a lot of money you got about $14 million realistically to spend you can just go ahead and say “Look we’ll give you five come on through you done picked up another body you know what I’m saying to fill up the the roster.” So you know I I think though Braxton Keith would be a good good free agent signing as far as the guards go I think you need to go try to look for something guard that’s in the probably in his late 20s not so much one of these old rusty veteran superstars okay i don’t think you need to go that route but if you’re going to go with either in the guard or the forward position go with somebody in their late 20s that maybe has a championship ring under their belt and maybe understands that they’re coming in to play a role on this team they’re not coming in to be stars we are giving you we’re going to pay you a nice amount of money each year to come just be a role player on this team because we we think we have our core in place and we’re going to try to run with this core so again sticking to the plan of what I said in an earlier video which is surround Zion with younger talent and I think you need to take advantage of that in this free agency session you don’t have to go look for old grizzle vet in my opinion and thank you so much once again for watching Pelicans Digest man and thank y’all once again for subscribing don’t forget keep dropping in the comments who would you like to see the Pelicans sign or what you thought about what my thoughts are i mean I can take it i’m I’m a big boy i can take y’all criticism some of y’all been criticizing me i can take it 1. Good to see some positive content man – the doomers are out in force on our roster moves, but time will tell. If nothing else, it's good to have the Pels being proactive and aggressive rather than adopting the same 'wait and see/give it time' approach of the past 5 years. Swing for the fences.

  2. They have to bring Elfrid back. Runs the offense and gets the ball to the right player. Gotta love true PGs to let everyone score off the ball.

  3. Finally someone commentating on the Pels who actually knows something about the team! Thank you! Some reasonable commentary!

  4. What are the odds the first two were named Gary lol.. and hey bro I don’t know where you came from. You came out of nowhere but you are absolutely killing it with these videos. I’ve listened to locked on pelicans for a few years and Jake is awesome but it’s cool to have another diehard cover the team hopefully you can stay consistent like you say you are ha ha
