REPORT: Golden State Warriors Interested In Herb Jones, Does It Make Sense?
sources are saying that the Warriors are likely to move on from Gary Payton the second but in terms of a replacement on the defensive side of the ball we have some smoke on a man named talking about that on Locked on Dove

started my name is Charlie Walter i’m formerly a 957 the game in the Bay Area that’s the flagship station of the Golden State Warriors also covered the team for CBS News Bay Area kylin Mills was in the Bay Area at the same time as me the exact same time ironically the exact same days in fact uh she was with Kown 4 NBC Sports Bay Area uh covered the A’s too if you’re an Oakland A’s fan you may remember her on the desk she now works for Big 10 Network she calls uh she works for the Warriors too um for NBC Sports Bay Area only female to ever call a Dallas Mavericks game playbyplay i like to throw that plug in there and uh she’s here to break down things unlocked on Warriors today the itinerary Gary Payton II Dunn is a Warrior we’ll explain uh Herb Jones of the New Orleans Pelicans is reportedly a player that the Warriors will be targeting why I think it makes a ton of sense and I would love to see Herb Jones as a Golden State Warrior plus uh Ge Santos Quinton Post will be returning next season are we excited about that we’re going to talk about those things on today’s show first thing I want to show you is the summer league roster that is now out if you are a fan of summer league here are some of the players that you will be seeing for the Golden State Warriors first Taran Armstrong from Australia there there’s been some smoke surrounding his name that he he’s a pretty nice player and I’m excited to see what he can do in the summer league a 65 guard alex Tui another Australian who was drafted at 52nd just a few days ago will be playing for the Warriors as will Jackson Row who we saw in the playoffs last year for a cup of coffee will Richard Chance McMillan from Texas Tech and a Vallejo guy gabe Madson from Utah whose brother Mason actually has been on this program before he was uh the twin brother Mason he played with Quinton Post at Boston College and if you’re a diehard fan of the show you may remember that interview with him last year talking about QP we also have Blake Henson Javier Francis of the Houston Cougars who probably won’t be an NBA type of guy but he’s a hustle player lj Crier of the Houston Cougars who I think will uh carve out a spot on this team but no Quinton Post no Pat Spencer no uh really household Golden State Warriors names on this roster a lot of guys that will need to carve out roles this upcoming season so that does it for the summer league talk let’s get on to Gary Payton second sources saying he’s unlikely to return to the Warriors next season despite the price tag likely going down on GP2 because of his specific skill set did have a pretty decent season in terms of his overall career numbers last year was healthy but Gary Payton the second thoughts on him being with the Warriors being out the door what’s your take look I wouldn’t be mad if the Warriors were to keep Gary Payton in the second round on a vet minimum type of deal but if he wants to try to go get more money elsewhere if the Warriors feel like they need to reserve those few dollars or a roster spot for something else I’m not mad about it i think that the Gary Payton the second we saw this last season was not the Gary Payton the second we saw during the 2022 championship run i don’t know if he’ll ever get back there was this a result of injury because keep in mind he dealt with a major abdominal surgery uh he’s dealt with a couple of different injuries in the last five years of his NBA career never forget he broke his collar bone during the Warriors Championship run i mean there’s just been all kinds of things that have come up and he’s a player who at 32 years old I think that it’s fair to say most 32-y old players are probably past their prime uh you know when it comes to peaking when it comes to peaking like what your peak NBA career what late 20s i mean he’s a player at 32 that you just wonder after overcoming some significant injuries is he ever going to get back to that 2022 championship uh level because I just feel like he wasn’t quite there he was still a good defender great defender I should say but like was he the same elite point of attack defender that was one of the best in the league in my opinion back in 2022 uh and I just didn’t see it based on the eye test and and the numbers show the same thing uh some of the defensive numbers were down in terms of steals per game blocks per game um and then the shooting was down which I think is a big issue because you can bring in or you can keep Gary Payton the second as a defensive specialist but one of the big reasons why I think he was so effective during that 2022 championship run is the fact that when he did get opportunities and wide openen looks because defenders were sagging off of him or they were you know going to double team another defender it seemed like he always hit timely shots like I look back at that playoff run in 2022 and it seemed like Gary Payton the second would just hit that corner three right when you needed it uh and his numbers were efficient that that year i mean you look at him shooting 53 nearly percent from beyond the ark oh that was with the Portland Trail Blazers um 36% from beyond the arc in 2122 but then 44% in 2223 when he returned to the Warriors again that was in limited roles uh but I just this past year the the three-point shooting was down regardless of how much he pa played he was shooting 32% and again not a high volume three-point shooter but still it’s like if he could just hit a couple of those timely shots and I just felt like the shooting wasn’t there this season the defense was still really good but it maybe wasn’t the same elite level as it was in 2022 so you know I understand letting him walk i don’t think that’s the most important move um that the Warrior you know what I mean that’s definitely not where the Warriors focus should be right now i think they can upgrade from Gary Payton the second and I think that’s the big thing can they add a truly elite point of attack defender who can also contribute something on offense i know there’s a player we’re going to talk about in a bit but I I you know appreciate everything Gary Payton has done with the Warriors and I know he’s a fan favorite but I just think that that money can be utilized elsewhere and they could possibly upgrade when it comes to that elite perimeter defender i’m looking at the financial situation right now in terms of what GP2 would command and probably it’s not going to be as much as he made a season ago because he was on that contract that he signed with the Blazers after the Warriors title run where he was playing his best basketball and actually signed a for him you know $9 million per season probably pretty hefty i would think about half of that maybe a vet minimum guy that the Warriors could bring back for the cheap my issue is he has somewhat of a ceiling like you know what you’re gonna get from GP2 he’s a vibes guy he’s a locker room guy he’s a hustle guy where is GP2 he’s around the basket like he he’s that type of player that you know what you’re going to get from him if he’s healthy which he was a season ago but he he’s capped and what the Warriors need to do with this money in my opinion and with some of the fringe roster guys because let’s not forget sure he was playing 10 15 minutes a game but Kerr was running 11 12 guys out there we we don’t want to run 11 12 guys out there in playoff games next season we want to get to the point where the Warriors look like the Minnesota Timberwolves to where it’s eight nine guys consistently you know what you’re going to get and I think a boow candidate that you can use GP2’s contract or that money to go out and get is someone that we saw on the team last year that’s DeAnthony Melton he’s going to be dirt cheap this off seasonason and granted by the time you’re listening to this podcast on the audio platform he may be with the Lakers because they’re interested free agency opens on Monday at 3 PM Pacific so things can happen quick and maybe Melton’s out the door but as of this current moment on a Sunday night DeAnthony Melton’s someone that we saw last year with the Warriors put up like 15 points in a game i think he had like 18 in one knocked down multiple three-pointers he can clearly shoot it he can clearly defend he can push it he’s pretty long uh if he gets back to that like 2122 Memphis Grizzlies version that we saw in the playoffs and the only reason that he hasn’t been is because of injuries when he plays he’s awesome if he can get back to that version that’s the type of move and it’s got to be moves for the Warriors but that’s one of the the many moves that the Warriors could make that like results in holy crap we’re looking at a team that’s one of the best teams in the West because you went out there for three 4 million and got DA Anthony Melton who the season before was literally worth 12 million and maybe Melton wouldn’t want to come back he he feels slighted that he was traded for Dennis Shruder but look that that money that brought in Shruder was flipped right out the door to make way for Jimmy Butler everything is a circle time is just a flat circle it’s the circle of life it’s the circle of the NBA i think that DA Anthony Melton makes sense if you can get him back in the right contract to replace Gary Payton the second because I think he has higher upside offensively i think he can give you some of those things defensively that GP2 brings to the table and when it comes down to it um take a little risk you know that’s what this team’s going to have to do they are going to have to take somewhat of a risk and um I I think that it could potentially be an upgrade if it worked out now Melton’s been made a glass lately it’s scary but um fortune favors the bold
yeah I think that DA Anthony Melton is going to be that high risk high reward because the risk is the fact that he may not be healthy but the Warriors at times have been rewarded for taking the right risks and I look back at that 2022 championship team that signed an Otto Porter Jr who had been injured a ton and I think Otto Porter Jr was one of if not the Warriors most important player off the bench so I think sometimes you got to gamble to win big uh but that’s something I think the Warriors front office would have to take a really close look at but DA Anthony Melton could be a good option that you could sign on the cheap and money also has to be at the forefront of everything the Warriors are doing if they want to make any type of big move or big splash which I really am hoping they’re going to make i know I’ve been preaching about the fact that I still would like to see them sign a starting center um but I also think when you look at Gary Payton II that you could look at other players to possibly upgrade in terms of having that elite point of attack perimeter defender and there’s a name that I think has been floated around there and Herb Jones that I know we’re going to get into in just a bit and this is a player who has some more length and some more size than GP2 and I just think has a higher upside just 26 years old so a younger player as well i know we’re going to get into that but I I think that the Gary Payton the second move makes sense if you feel like you can make an upgrade but I also love GB2 so like on a vet minimum like I wouldn’t be mad about it but all the reports are out there right now that it is expected that he’s going to walk okay Herb Jones does he make sense for the Warriors how would the Dubs get him that’s coming up on Locked on Warriors all right today’s episode’s brought to you by America’s number one sports book that is FanDuel basketball season’s over fortunately summer league’s coming up soon if you have a hunch on a summer league game guess what you can get in on the action um fortunately it is baseball season one of my favorite bets the Nerfy have you heard of the Nerfy
i just heard of the Nerfy before we recorded this but I hadn’t prior so Phil and the folks at home
yeah and by recording this she means uh let’s just say the mic wasn’t working so we decided to go live but a Nerfy is a no- run first inning basically find two pitchers that you like that are really good that aren’t giving up runs early in the games and bet no run in the first inning it’s exhilarating you root for six outs and you win right away you don’t have to sit through a three-hour baseball game whatever it is since the the the pitch clock came into play another thing you can do during baseball games you can bet over under on the run total and if you want to make things really spicy run lines where you can take a team to win by more than one and a half to really up the juice and try to win big now is the time to get in on the action baseball any sport it’s FanDuel right now new customers can get $150 in bonus bets if your first $5 bet wins visit fanuel.com to get started all right I told you all about seagull bombs brett Seagull who is of Clutch Points he must have 19 pairs of ears because he hears everything around the league it’s it’s truly remarkable the amount of things that he hears compared to the little news that is broken from Seagull i will say this when there’s smoke there’s fire i always do believe that and it makes sense after a report we heard from Monty P of NBC Sports Bay Area who says the Warriors are expected to search for an elite perimeter defender so what the Warriors are looking for this off season is to upgrade a defense that was already one of the best in the league post Jimmy Butler’s edition and a guy that would help Herb Jones of the New Orleans Pelicans the tweet says “I’ve heard that Herb Jones and the Kequel Alexander Walker have some chatter right now for the Golden State Warriors within the last couple of days the Warriors are certainly looking to upgrade things in free agency this week and potentially on the trade market if the price is right herb Jones makes the same amount of money as Moses Moody.” Now why would the Warriors make a deal for Herb Jones it’s very simple he’s an incredible perimeter defender he’s great off ball on ball every type of defender defensive attribute that you want Herb Jones provides it he’s got great instincts he has good length he He causes chaos active hands gets into passing lanes he’s there from behind he knows where to be he takes charges him and pods on the floor together two guys taking charges he’ll slide over and sacrifice his body this guy’s really really good at generating steals and deflections he can guard one through four now is he like a true big that’s going to protect the rim no he he’s not he’s He’s 6’8 with a seven foot wingspan but what he can do is cause havoc on the defensive side of the ball and you think about what Moses Moody was asked to do late in the season picking up other players like Jaw Morance of the world or the best player on the other team and really use those long arms to make sure that they have a tough night um getting off the ball and generating offense that is what Herb Jones can do plus a plethora of other things uh he’s an awesome point of attack defender i just watched a ton of tape of him today guarding Sheay Gilis Alexander uh when the the season in 232 24 that he was first team all defense was Herb Jones and dude he was giving Shay Gil just Alexander hell like he was everywhere he was swatting shots you know coming from the the baseline and throwing a a block shot into the stands he was you know forcing Shay to throw up a tough shot with two on the shot clock he was picking his cookies and taking them away the other way i mean he does a little bit of everything offensively 10 points per game four rebounds coming off an injury lot to be desired there but in in terms of just the defensive aspect I think he in a straightup trade for Moses Moody with maybe not maybe definitely a first round draft pick involved not two i’ I’d shut that down a heartbeat one draft pick i think that uh he would make the Warriors legit one of the best defenses in the NBA if they weren’t already
disruptiveness is the name of the game for Herb Jones and and I’m just want to cosign a lot of what you said Chuck when you watch the film or you watch a game of Herb Jones I mean out in passing lanes good anticipation high IQ not just steals but he’s flying out and closeouts blocking three-point shots with that size and the length that he has and I also think for a Warriors team that’s looking to make upgrades in terms of positional size that’s another thing that you have to think about the fact that Herb Jones is 68 and he does have some defensive versatility where Jones can be switched onto different players and he can still hold his own if not stop him and like you said steal the cookies from the cookie jar uh so I think having that versatility where he can guard bigger players at times he can guard smaller players at times because he does still have some quickness that’s a that would be a huge asset for a Warriors team that like I said I think is also looking for some positional size and and can use a player who can defend in that way so I love the fit of Herb Jones for that reason when he does those things defensively and makes the steals and and you know is that disruptive that’s where he can create easy opportunities on the other end jones averaged just about two steals per game last season and so you’re looking at live ball turnovers that the Warriors can utilize for transition buckets which they need at least if they’re going to continue to go small which is the route that we know Steve Kerr loves to go i would like that to change i would like to see them sign a five at a true center but that’s neither here nor there still I think getting transition buckets and the defense that Herb Jones brings is going to be a huge or would be a huge asset for the Golden State Warriors my question my two questions are can Herb Jones contribute offensively because we saw flashes of it now this past season Herb Jones did deal with some injury and that’s something that also needs to be addressed this is a player who’s coming off of a right shoulder surgery it was a rotator cuff tear that he had to have repaired only played 20 games in 2024 25 ended up undergoing surgery in mid to late February to where there are some injury concerns he’s not old again 26 27 years old like you hope that he can recover from that that’s not something that’s lingering but of course that’s something to note and then going back to the 2024 season you saw some potential in terms of Herb Jones shooting he shot 40 nearly 50% in fact from the floor he shot nearly just about 504287 those were his shooting splits in the 23-24 season now Jones was not a high volume three-point shooter but he shot nearly 42% from beyond the arc averaging just about three and a half threes per game so at least he’s going to be a player who forces the defense to stay honest like you can’t go crazy and sag off of and totally leave him out in space if he’s able to shoot it from beyond the arc at that clip uh so that still remains to be seen his first couple seasons in the NBA shot about 33% 33 and a half% from beyond the arc so he was not a prolific three-point shooter but uh you saw a major jump in that third season for him in the NBA and then this last season only 20 games dealt with injury there was a drop off in the three-point shooting but I don’t think you saw a big enough sample size to maybe give a full evaluation so if he’s a player who can be that elite perimeter point of attack defender who has defensive switchability and size and disruptiveness and all of these things checks all the boxes and then also can hit some timely shots just have high efficiency on the offensive end keep the defense on it spread the floor by being able to hit those open looks don’t do too much don’t play outside yourself then I think he’d be a massive asset and definitely an upgrade to Moses Moody although I do like Moses Moody
i think Moses Moody probably has a higher ceiling offensively i’m not going to sit here and act like I’ve I’ve watched aside from the tape tons and tons of Herb Jones although we did see him play the Warriors I think at least once uh before he was injured a season ago and we’ve seen him in the past like a lot of the tape that I watched was him you know giving Trace Jackson Davis held down low or taking charges on certain Warriors players but um what I really like about this trade as a whole is one you’re not buying him low but he is coming off an injury right whenever a player is coming off an injury you can kind of force the other team’s hand to saying this no like you’re getting Moody and you’re getting one first round pick you are not getting two first round picks now if you think Moses and him is a direct swap is comparable and you think that’s a fair trade it’s not because Herb Jones is really he’s just a much better defender than Moses Moody he is truly there are people out there not not I I I wouldn’t say this but there are people out there that legit think he’s like one of the best onball defenders uh in the NBA like one of the best and the fact that he was first team all defense in 23 24 the last full season of being healthy proves that he can really really play now why would the Pelicans trade him yeah
they’re on a timeline after bringing in Jordan Pool now that just doesn’t feel like they’re ready feels like maybe they could a playin team this year and and improve and and get a little better they do have some nice pieces there but they’re not a contending team and Herb Jones is a guy that would make sense on a contending team so if the Warriors believe that they’re contending like he is a a plug-and-play piece that just vaults them to being an incredible defensive team whereas the Pelicans like a first round draft pick that could be a lottery pick in 29 from the Warriors or in 28 or or whatever year they gave up no I think two would be
honestly
I think it would be a stretch to to give up two for Herb Jones considering the offensive limitations that he has but if you gave up one and just did a swap with Moses Moody and gave up one first round pick you’re getting significantly better on the defensive side of the ball and you’re getting a player that has a couple more years under his belt and he’s cheap he’s a value player i mean a first team alldefensive guy for 13 million those players do not grow on trees in the NBA just a high impact guy on the defensive side of the ball still young enough at 26 to where maybe he can figure out a shot and be serviceable on that side of the ball and he’s already you know I guess serviceable offensively but like if he had a a deep ball it would really change everything but um that’s what I think i mean the Pelicans they need some youth they need some some assets in their back pocket so when Zion and and Jordan P and some of these young players that they have do kind of take that next step all of a sudden they have a 2026 or 2027 first round pick from the Warriors and they’re like “Okay we’re a piece away and now we have the number four and number eight overall pick because we made that trade for you know uh Moses Moody and got the first round draft pick attached to it so it makes sense in that regard and remember Brett Seagull is never wrong the seagull bomb is always when there’s smoke there’s fire when it comes to Brett Seagull
i’m making a face because literally I was about to say Brett Seagull’s reports tend to be rumors and a lot of times he’s wrong but according to you he’s not wrong cuz he’s just saying oh I heard but I’m like he seems to hear a lot of things so I’m going to take this with a grain of salt uh with that being said the Pelicans also just drafted Derek Queen out of Maryland who’s a big that I am very high on high basketball IQ great passer so I agree with what you’re saying Chuck they have a lot of young talent aside from Zion Williamson who never plays and listen we have like a long-standing beef uh for anyone watching at home about Zion Williamson that’s one of Chuck’s favorite players and I don’t think he’s ever going to get back to being healthy for a full season like I I don’t see it happening uh so I just like to poke the bear a little bit on that um but I think that it’ll be interesting to see how the Warriors roster construction shakes out i think that he would be a good addition uh Herb Jones would but I still think they need to upgrade a center and now we do have some other news in terms of some players that they’re bringing back which aren’t a big surprise like a Quenton post and a Geese Santos that’s called a tease
that is a tease we’re going to talk about QP and Ge Santos having their team options exercised they will return for the Golden State Warriors this upcoming season what are their ceilings what do they bring do we like the move to bring these two back in hop in the comments let us know thanks for listening to Lockdown Warriors we continue right after this all right per sources the Warriors will exercise their team options on Ge Santos and Quinton Post for next season santos is on the books for 2.2 million post 1.9 million so 4.1 million will be attached to those two players makes a ton of sense i think Geese Santos is the type of player that’s crucial during a regular season run where you’re going to have guys like Jimmy Butler Steph Curry Draymond Green who need some load management who probably get dinged up along the way and you just don’t want them playing 75 games next season 70 plus games and Ge Santos is one of those players that seems like he’s always available he’s a hustle player did put up 19 points in a game against the Bulls last season so he can uh I’m not going to say he’s he’s overall someone that you can rely on scoring the basketball but he’s not completely inept but what he does is he gives you energy he gives you a fresh body he gives you youth and he’s still young he he still has room to grow and he’s $2.2 million which is a big factor in this now Quinton Post is even cheaper at 1.9 million he showed the capabilities of coming into a playoff series and impacting a game where he almost brought the Warriors back in that game three i believe it was game two against Houston where Jimmy Butler got hurt and uh came in and knocked down just a bunch of threes to bring the Warriors within single digits and then it got out of hand with no Jimmy in company but um post offensively I think has some ability to really stretch the floor and shoot the three ball at an elite clip elite like I don’t know if I’ve ever seen a seven-footer a legit sevenfooter in the league with a prettier stroke and a better percentage than Quinton Post at this age like he’s a legit 40% knockdown three-point shooter he’s the second best three-point shooter on this team behind Steph Curry h Buddy Heal’s pretty damn good but uh he he’s up there right like he’s up there with some of the best shooters in the NBA and he’s a legit seven feet the question always will become can he be a bruiser down low is he someone that can impact shots around the rim is Trace Jackson Davis that player uh Cavon Looney is he coming back there’s so many different types of bigs there are the big physical Jaylen Durant bruisers that also have some skill there are the Cavon Looney just muck it up type of players that set hard screens that bang that get offensive rebounds there are the Quinton Post that stretch the floor that can be described by some as a little bit soft but I thought he showed some tenacity and then um there are guys like Trace Jackson Davis who are vertical threats who are lobb threats who can block shots but don’t necessarily bring a ton else to their game what do the Warriors need this off seasonason because we know that Quinton Post is going to be a ve very um valuable piece like they’ve said that they’re not going to go after a stretch big like Brook Lopez because of someone like QP you’re really rolling your eyes right now jesus God
i was trying to make my uh thought known via uh just the faces that I was making if you’re listening I just was we’ll just say blinking and shaking my head um I I think it’s not a bad move to bring back a Geese Santos and a Quentyn Post for minimal salaries because the Warriors do need to fill out the bottom end of the roster which with as little money spent as possible because of where they’re at in terms of you know the luxury tax and if they want to make some big moves they’ve got to have some money available and that’s always been a struggle for the Dubs uh especially with the new CBA and some of the restrictions that it holds on on the amount of money that teams can spend my concern is the fact that reports came out just about two weeks ago Chuck that uh Quentyn Post was being viewed by the Warriors as being that starting five this upcoming season as you pointed out there were reports out there that the Dubs were going to pass on Brook Lopez because they saw Quenton Post as being the five who could really fill that role and I just don’t think he’s quite ready
not like stretch big though not necessarily like a rim protector
no no but I’m saying they wanted him to take on a bigger role in this offense and possibly start we saw him start in the latter half of the season i just don’t think looking at Quenton Post that he is a elite starting five on a championship team like I just don’t think he’s ready and that’s not to say that he doesn’t have a ton of potential you pointed out the ability to stretch the floor he was the best rookie shooter probably this season 41% from beyond the arc taking more than four threes per game for a guy who’s 7 feet like that’s great the Warriors want to stretch the floor i don’t think that’s a bad thing uh I think that Quentyn Post was exposed a little bit during some of the playoff series just in terms of his ability to be an interior defender his ability to attack on the interior attack the basket there were times where he got stuffed when he was trying to dunk the basketball uh and I thought there were times where he had rebounds that were like ripped out of his hands to where I’d love to see Quentyn Post get in the weight room this off seasonason add some muscle i think that there’s always going to be an adjustment when it comes to especially a big a center who goes from the collegiate game to playing in the NBA against some of the best in the NBA and we saw teams like the Rockets run out some bigger lineups where the Warriors needed Quentyn Post to take on bigger minutes and like he had good moments but like is Quentyn Post year two Quentyn Post a starting five and a championship caliber team to me no and can the Warriors win and be a contender with Draymond Green as a starting five and it’s something that the organization Mike Dunlevy has said Draymond Green has said they don’t want to happen come the 2025 26 season the organization has said like we don’t want day one Draymond Green to be our go-to starting five and I think that we’ve seen over the course of time that the small ball that Steve Kurrs like to lean into hasn’t worked um so I don’t mind bringing Quentyn Post back and I think that he’s like great coming in off the bench but I still want to see the Warriors sign a five deandre Aton just as we were coming on the air we learned is going to be a free agent i brought up some other names like could the Warriors trade for Walker Kesler who there have been reports that the Lakers were possibly pursuing because LA’s another team that’s looking for a five i think Walker Kesler would be a great fit you laughed at Clint Capell and said he sucks but like anything would be an upgrade from nobody in my opinion and I think that the Warriors need a vet big versus like drafting a big which I know some people wanted to see as well but it’s like how many inexperienced fives can you have he’s since we’re here together in person if you’re listening and not watching Charlie and I are recording this in the same room and he’s trying to grab the mic out of my hand well I’m just saying Clint Capella I mean you do have the the rights to Cavon Looney and I I know that you don’t think that Cavon Looney at this point is laterally quick enough and he’s not your your option there but I I just don’t know that Clint Capella in this day and age is really that much of an upgrade if an upgrade at all from Cavon Looney to where like at that point just bring back London Dog i mean just bring back London Dog for another season he’s a vibes guy too um and he
Okay so they need to get someone better than Clint Capella can I say that like should a way like
Walker Kesler Walker Kesler is a great pick how do you get Walker Kesler because it it’s Danny A it’s Utah and if we know anything about Danny A he likes to play hard ball and we actually heard that uh in the NBA draft reports are that Mike Dunley wanted to trade up to draft a certain player i I thought maybe that player could have been Young Hansen who they worked out from China but all reports are saying that it was actually uh Walter Clayton from the Florida Gator maybe that makes sense why they ended up with Will Richard maybe they were really in talks with Todd Golden about Walter Clayton and then when he got gobbled up by Utah who who found out that Golden State wanted him they trade up and take Walter Clayton just an all-time slimeball move by Danny A if he actually knew um or they just really liked him maybe that’s where Dunley was talking to uh to Todd Golden and that’s where he’s like “Hey this Will Richard guy he’s a value pick too i I really like the the type of player that he could be for your squad.” But um yeah I mean Walker Kesler would be tough robert Williams is another player like a Melton that like he’d be a great fit if he’s healthy but he’s got to be healthy mark Williams is now on the Phoenix Suns so so that’s not an option and there’s just not a ton of bigs out there truly that are that much better than Cavon Looney that are available that’s my final take of the day so uh do something but it’s hard to do something
okay but I’m so sick of hearing the worries for an office say it’s so hard to make a trade it’s so hard to make a trade and then everybody else makes a trade
get DeAndre Aton
so so that was going to be my question is what about DeAndre Aton and we got to wrap this episode we’re getting to the end so folks let us know in the comments what would you think about the Warriors signing DeAndre Aton literally I I really want to hear what people’s opinions are on this because again he just like the news just broke that he’s a free agent like seconds before we were coming on the air so that’ll have to be a deep dive for tomorrow’s episode but let us know drop a comment what do you think about DeAndre Aton possibly being a big that the Warriors pursue because I think a lot of people are on the same page as you and I Chuck that the Warriors need to add some size and they need to add someone in the front court whether they’re better than Looney or not they’ve got to add someone i think that they can make it happen and go out and find someone who’s going to be a starting five uh sweet talk Danny H whatever it takes but that’s gonna be my last take of the day
deandre Aton the former number one overall pick looks like Carl Malone physically his motor I haven’t seen it uh it hasn’t seemed to work out really anywhere he’s been since early on in Phoenix he can score he’s got some nice postgame to him
but uh I would imagine that he will still command a little bit of money despite not really working out to this point and frankly Portland fans and uh Mike Richmond for locked on Blazers and everyone they’re just like “No no.” So at a certain point I trust the people that watch him every single night although I will say that first game of the season against the Warriors last year there was a 10-minute stretch where I was like “Damn they could use DeAndre Aton.” And guess what he disappeared the rest of the game and the Warriors beat him by like 45 points so DeAndre Eaton I don’t know it depends on the price tag but he is huge uh he is physical and he does have talent we know that this is Lockdown Warriors part of the Lockdown Podcast Network your team every day thanks for joining peace bye
Per a report, the Golden Sate Warriors are interested in New Orleans Pelicans forward Herb Jones, would a trade make sense? Plus, sources say that the Warriors are likely to move on from Gary Payton II.

Herb Jones / Trey Murphy III / Kessler Walker / etc .. all guys that would make sense on the Dubs’ win-a-ring-in-the-next-3 seasons- window. But we all know MJD and Kerr aren’t making those moves. They’d rather re-sign the Slow Mo , Anthony Lamb, Nico Mannion’s of the world.
Warriors have no money, they have choice but to fill out the roster with the G League again. They might get one player outside of what they already have.
Nobody wants to play for GSW, no one wants to give GSW any player that gives Steph his fifth ring.
Omg y'all actually did a shared camera pod! 😅 hell yeah chuck and Kylen
Ya are too cute
Hey had Payton trynna guard bigs n smallforwards instead of letting him guard pgs n shooting guards,,u can’t have guys playing out of position n expect them to have break out seasons especially busy with limited games n a specific skill,,I say keep Payton at his reasonable prove n find a way to trade moody …moody just doesn’t fit he has no real position n isn’t great at any thing I say see what u can get for moody
We don’t need any undersized guys we need guys 6’8 n better no more 6.2 6’ 4 guys or any 6’6 power forwards they need a center n some taller longer wings
The question is why would the Pelicans do that. They're retooling around Zion and bringing in Jordan Poole and Saddiq Bey so they're not going to downgrade their defense.
We gotta stop these make believe free agent n trade talks..how can they afford a 26 yr old herb jones like cut it out he’s nkt signing for the vet minimum..I say keep Gary Payton n sign a starting center n figure out who’s gonna be the warriors starting 2 guard
Jones or Murphy makes sense for the Warriors. Alexander Walker would also be a nice addition.
Absolutely are you kidding me guys like him Camara from Portland these type pf guys are crucial.
You guys so sweet together.offcam?wondering how u guys doin 😊😁😜✌️
Thank you Kylen for your help on kerr love show and no it's not happening no HJ besides your other half have BP stepson right????😅
Charlie and Kylen are an exceptionally great combo.
You guys rock
Ayton would be good
That thumbnail was just bloody brilliance Chuck!!! LOL
Yes sign Ayton
I'm always intrigued with the Summer league, so thanks for showing the roster.
Chuck, I Love the 40+% shooters in summer league for sure, but imo the guy to watch is Coleman Hawkins. 6' 9" barefoot point forwards are a serious thing… sure, it's hard to show that surrounded by dudes that he doesn't even know in a brand new system, but stay tuned. I don't think TJD is safe.
Yeh pelicans ain’t doing it unless it’s Kuminga trade. We should try to get Deandre Ayton from Portland blazers because he is a free agent now. Former top pick so we can get him for cheap but potential is there
I'm not AGAINST Deandre Ayton (I still want Brooke btw, was 2nd for DPOY 2 years ago), but people need to really do their research on him before they start signing petitions. Sure, Kerr thought he was the gold standard after Wiseman was drafted, but he showed some major personality issues that honestly were visible in college. He has spans where he doesn't play hard at all, doesn't protect the rim, can't shoot, doesn't bully his way to the basket or pass ftm. And worse, played 40 games last season, 55/67/58 before that… Brooke played 80 games last season and doesn't miss games in general. And you can ease in the Big you draft next year when he retires in 2 years…. but maybe he's a good reclamation project, I'll just let the Dubs decide.
Get ayton
Warriors only need to train post well or trade for a Center no other business they need to do besides this but Payton must stay….
