Collin Sexton TRADED To The Charlotte Hornets!
alrighty y’all We got kind of a weird one here We’ve got the Utah Jazz and the Charlotte Hornets making a trade Colin Ston and a 2030 second round pick are on their way to Charlotte for Yousef Nerkage Now I I didn’t do a video on this one right away I’m just getting back from a trip and I’m trying to get a bunch of stuff organized So apologies that it’s not out instantly but this is the weird one I saw this one get posted and instantly I was like “Okay there must be more going on here.” And nothing else is happening So I I just need to kind of like understand what’s going on here So let’s let’s draw out the trade really quickly right let’s draw it out So we got the Jazz and we got the Hornets Hornets we know are some some sneaky mofos now That’s that’s what they’ve started to become known as around the NBA and within inner talks These guys are a little sneaky which is nice because Charlotte for the longest time just wasn’t doing anything So it’s kind of cool that they’re at least being active now Utah typically regarded as a pretty eliterrun organization Um so Colin Ston on his way to Charlotte Colin Ston pretty solid basketball player Defensively not very good but offensively pretty damn good Yousef Nerkich not known as a great basketball player at this moment in time He’s had his moments in the NBA but this last season was pretty rough So I’m I I get a little bit confused And obviously there’s like a second round pick going in this Do we know exactly which second round pick this is i I I know I saw it at some point but just know that there’s a second round pick in this as well And here’s here’s where I get confused Both of these players are on expiring deals right both of them are on expiring contracts Um Yousef Nerk makes more money and is considerably just kind of looked at as a worse probably NBA player than Colin Ston is And so in my mind I’m like how is there a draft pick attached to Colin Ston to get him off the team when the money isn’t any different am I Am I missing something here let me let me take a look at that His contract’s guaranteed No Yeah his his gu his his contract is guaranteed I I can’t comprehend this one Like is it a catastrophe of a deal no It’s a second round pick Utah’s got some picks but like it’s not a plethora of picks I just I don’t understand You look at the rest of the roster right so you got Walker Kesler at center Kyle Filipki’s like like offensively he’s actually fine Defensively he’s got some other problems And I get it He’s a non-rebounding center but he’s young Like you do have a center there I don’t I don’t understand why you needed to add another center to the rotation here especially when you like you got guys like John Collins still on the roster It’s not like you couldn’t throw Markin in there if you needed to but I just I feel like there’s some bigs here And I’m trying to think like okay does this put him in more of a competitive stance this next year and like I wouldn’t necessarily say yes Like I I don’t I don’t understand exactly what he’s bringing Like historically Nerkish is a pretty solid defensive player Like he can contribute fine on the offensive end Nothing to write home about though But Colin Ston like Duke can get you 20 points any single night Yes defensively is a problem but that that leaves you more short-handed in a worse position at the guard because as of right now you’ve got Isaiah Kier Somebody’s car alarm’s going off God damn it Well now that that’s over Um so they’re left with Keonte George Isaiah Kier not two guys that you probably want running your offense if you want a chance at winning some basketball games this year Jordan Clarkson’s still on the team Kind of same thing there like obviously a little bit more reliable but overall like Colin Sexton should help you like win more games than lose games And I just I don’t understand cuz it’s not like like yes you’re taking back more money but they were both expiring contracts either way So it’s not like they just didn’t want to pay Colin Ston They just really wanted Nerk for some reason So shout out Charlotte They get Colin Ston on the team So you’ve just added like another scorer to this group which is um pretty cool you get another ball handler on the team which you didn’t have many of those Defensively this team is really really weird and their center rotation is non-existent at this point Like you got Musa here who I I don’t even necessarily consider him a center but he’s there And so you just kind of have no centers on the team it feels like now unless I’m missing someone right i’m not I’m not missing anybody Um they get a pick which is cool I do have questions about what this means for Trey Man Is this like cuz Colin Ston kind of fills the Trey man role on the team Are they bringing him back are they not bringing him back cuz he just drafted Khan as well who’s going to play like a similar like kind of guard position So what what’s going on here like if you’re Charlotte I I wouldn’t question it too much just because it’s a better asset to gain overall right like you gained a pick and you gained a what should be considered a just a better player So I can’t be mad at it and it’s not like you guys were probably going to be that good this year Anyway but I I really don’t know what Utah was doing with this pick I just I found this really interesting and kind of just wanted to talk about it more so than anything else Look team swing and miss sometimes and maybe Nerkage is a missing piece to this group but either way like I I can’t comprehend how in the negotiation it got to this point but shout out Charlotte for coming out on the other end of what like without any like hindsight that you can throw into things just living in the moment right now this trade should not have been executed this way Like if anything like a pick should have been coming back and then we probably are like okay like feel like they could have gotten a little bit more for Sexton but whatever at least they got something cuz we knew he was kind of on the block but this is this is strange This is very very strange Maybe there’s more to come I always try to keep that open mind with these things Um yeah I’m very curious where they’re going with this So yeah shout out Charlotte What’s gonna happen with Trey man who’s gonna play center for these guys i have I have no clue Um there’s plenty of centers here by the way Like is this is this is um this doesn’t even have anything to do with this Are the Suns keeping Nick Richards what’s going on do the like it I’m pretty sure his option is like due today isn’t it and it’s it’s looking like he’s going to be sticking around So do the Suns not realize that there’s still a second apron team what What exactly are the Phoenix Suns doing right now i’m not I’m not positive about that either but this is um this is interesting This is I I just thought about Nick Richards because he was on the Hornets this year I was trying to think about other centers that they had um just on this team in recent memory and it’s it’s interesting It’s really really interesting So yeah I don’t I don’t necessarily know what this does for Charlotte in terms of helping them win basketball games What this means for Trey Man I I think they just gained more assets than they had before So good good for you Charlotte The Hornets and the Wizards continue to kind of make good moves What’s what’s going on NBA what’s going on i I don’t get it Yeah I I really don’t know what the Jazz were necessarily thinking here This is um this is a weird one You have a really bulky front court now So you got Nerk you got Markin Collins Taylor Hendricks you hope is going to be healthy this year Walker Kesler you got Philipowski who I assume maybe they try to throw out for some minutes this year but this is um this is an odd one I guess at the end of the day there’s just one year on his contract so like I’m not going to trip about it too much but this just seems like a weird asset exchange more so than anything else Um anything else I can cover in this video uh Lonnie Walker is a free agent now someone should go get him I think Lonnie Walker is a um is an interesting interesting player But yeah let me know what you guys think down below about this trade cuz I’m I’m just struggling to comprehend and understand this one If you guys find some logic in there that kind of makes some sense to me let me know But otherwise I’m just going to use my context clues to say Utah really wanted Nerk I guess Like I guess I get like some rebounding and stuff off the bench But I don’t know It’s weird It’s really really weird But anyway um I appreciate you guys for watching as always And we will I got to record a video later tonight still after my game So uh video on Monday for you guys But anyway thanks so much Bye Heat Heat [Music]

Any ideas why this one happened?
Suns are now the only team that hasn't gotten value for trading Nurkic 😬
They're both supertanking. Hornets just stacking guards, Jazz stacking frontline. Both with gaping holes so they can lose more games. Maybe?
Nothing confusing. Jazz have a plethora of guards, they must open up space. They aren’t building for next year so Nurkic’s expiring deal is fine and balances the roster more. The Jazz must try and lose again while they develop their youth. Their first round pick next year is protected 1-8, or it goes to the Thunder. They need to finish towards the bottom while giving their youth time. Jazz still need to deal Clarkson and/or Collins.
Too many guards in Utah
The only way I can see this making any sense is that heh jazz are way to high on nurk and the offers for sexton were then worst offers you’ve ever seen
This is a multi-layered deal. Sexton backup for LaMelo and is Tre Mann insurance in free agency. Hornets will add another center after drafting Kalkbrenner.
Kalkbrenner will be the starter, lol
Sad to see the young bull leave, loved his effort and his offense was always fun to watch.
I believe this was to free up time for the younger players, Collier and Clayton Jr PG mins, and George and Sensabaugh SG mins I would guess. Move Flip to the PF with Hendricks. Maybe a Collins trade is in the works?
Nurkic for some veteran experience on the roster I guess.
I don't think we, the Jazz, are looking to win more games this year, our pick would convey to OKC if it outside the top 8, so 1 more year of losing, and hopefully get a AJ or Peterson next year. We will see.
Jazz trying to keep that top-8 protected pick for next year, otherwise it goes to OKC
What the Jazz get is a few more lottery balls. What the Hornets get is fewer lottery balls.
I think the gms acrossed the league believe 6'2" shooting guard just doesn't have value.
And when you consider all the young guards the jazz have that need touches, sounds like Charlotte squeezed value in order to get a pick
The only way I can see this working in the Jazz's favor is to pay the Hornets to get a guard similar to Ty Jerome, putting them out of the Ty Jerome sweepstakes in free agency, whom the Jazz and Hornets were rumored to be interested in (although I think it's highly improbable that this is the case). The Jazz have liked passing centers like Nurkic for a while (like Kelly Olynyk) and they already have a lot of guards, so they probably are doing this to tank more effectively by playing young guys.
Lamelo guard insurance, and roster construction to fix the frontcourt that fits the system/culture. Won’t happen overnight but this is progress. We can also still flip sexton by next trade deadline from a desperate team
Nurk with more value than sexton? what world did i wake up in
It’s the Clayton Takeover 🔥
Sexton is yonger a few bucks cheaper and by FAR the better player this makes 0 sense.
I would be thinking Charlotte is sending the SRP, not Utah this is weird. At the end of the day I guess it’s just a SRP? But idk why they’d give him up along a SRP when I’m sure there has to be another team that would send you a SRP for Sexton.. weird but nice for Charlotte who continue to dump every big they own
as a jazz fan, we got WORKED. that being said, collin sexton might be the least impactful player to winning i have ever seen lmaoo. i'm also still riding the high from the draft so not much could upset me right now 😎
Great great great preparation to another tanking year for both teams…
We shouldn't find some sense to the moves they are currently making !!
Maybe utah just wants a bench warmer 😂 and you can justify benching nurkic more than sexton 😅
Poor Sexton being sent to another bad team
Only someone who works for the organisation would say Utah is an elite run organisation???
The Hornets being known as “sneaky” now is such a great thing to hear lol. Jeff Peterson is proving to be one of the best GMs in the league with all the moves he’s pulled off since taking over.
Austin Ainge definitely told the Hornets GM they’d trade them Sexton if they didnt draft Ace
Suns want Richards as a tradable asset, he won't be staying.
I dont like this trade for Utah. Another sneaky good move for Charlotte imo
Destructive Matt Ishbia
Utah really wants AJ😂
only way it makes sense is if it’s a precursor to another move that required more movable salary and Sextons value being down across the league due to being undersized and not a great playmaker as well as the timing of the move
Do you think Utah wants a vet. Also his value is in the dump so they can increase his value to trade during the trade deadlines
Kinda a reach but because their pick is top 8 protected if they somehow did “too” good and land end of lottery they would lose their pick
The Jazz pick for next year's draft (supposed to be very good) is top 8 protected to OKC. This is from a way back Favors salary dump and converts to 2nds if it doesn't convey this year. This is signaling the Jazz are going to "ethically" tank next year by offloading productive vets and letting the young guys play. They also had a glut of combo guards. I do agree its weird they had to attach a 2nd because Sexton is a great bench guy but the market must have disagreed.
i just woke up to a head scratcher, we didnt give up a pick with nurkic? 😂aint no complaints dont u reckon sexton is good depth since melo always injured
As a Hornets fan, I assume Sexton will play backup PG because the Hornets are in desperate need of a decent ball handler behind Lamelo. Moussa also definitely plays like a center and Ryan Kalkbrenner coming in from the draft will definitely help our Frontcourt depth. The move just makes a lot of sense for the Hornets, especially if they go out and aquire another veteran big man this off-season.
Jazz are trying to clear up the rotation for their young guys, plus I think they wanted a backup center. Remains to be seen if they are trying to actually improve the team yet or want one more good swing in next years draft
You telling me pat riley couldn’t do this? Someone needs to force him out of office I’m sick of dude
Yall are gonna found out how good Moussa is this year
To free up time for younger guys. And to tank. Must finish 5th worst to guarantee not falling to 9 losing the pick to okc.
Charlottes new regime is slowly impressing me with how aggressive they are and they are starting to do smart things which is very uncharlotte like. Do they seem a little shady sure but they are not just some being ran like no one has a clue or care about whats going on
This was a under the table trade up for Utah to get Bailey
#4 + Nurk for
#5 + Sexton + 2nd
