Latest NBA talk with Shams Charania πŸ–‹οΈ Harden, Randle & Smith Jr. set to sign new deals

for sure were in some fun moments to come in the NBA world nba free agency it opens officially on Monday at 6 but we needed this full tag board for our NBA insider Sham Shirania because he has been busy all week long and that includes today Shams the stars in LA they made some decision decisions on Sunday what more can you tell us about what’s going on in LA
gus let’s start with the biggest star of them all and that’s LeBron James he opted in to his 52.6 million contract for next season so what we do know right now is LeBron James will play a record 23rd NBA season still unsure whether he has one season left in this illustrious career or multiple years but one thing that’s certain he wants to compete for a championship and I’m told he is a little uncertain about the Lakers roster and their future he does understand though that Lakers are positioning themselves for the future around around Luca Duchic and his his agent longtime agent Rich Paul the CEO of Clutch Sports told me today that they understand the Lakers are looking into the future they are they they value the relationship they’ve had and they’re appreciative of the relationship with Jeannie Bus and Rob Pelinka but LeBron James at the point in his career 40 years old he’s going to evaluate what’s best for him based on what moves the Lakers make or don’t make so this is an interesting wrinkle in free agency and then the other big move in LA James Harden he’s agreed to 2-year $81.5 million contract to return to the Clippers i’m told the second year is a player option it is a partially guaranteed second year so this is really a good faith maneuver and a partnership both sides started 2 years ago it gives them a raise this season but this does give them flexibility long-term and they have the ability next season next summer to create max salary space so James Harden Kawhi Leonard locked in again for next season the Clippers have an eye on contending now and a little bit in the future
and Kawhai with those two years left could line up pretty nicely if that all works out uh we saw that tag board i know you’ve been busy i just saw you on the phone a second ago so what other moves do you have that have been notable so far
so two big moves in the Western Conference julius Randall has agreed to a three-year $100 million deal to stay with the Minnesota Timberwolves he has a player option in that third year and this locks in Randall and Nas Reed the contract the Timberwolves were 44 and 25 with him in the lineup 5-8 without him and then elsewhere in the Western Conference a burgeoning rising contender Jabari Smith Jr he is the first rookie extension guy done he’s signing a 5-year 122 million deal he’s the only player from that 2022 draft class to have 2,500 points and500 rebounds they really believe in his ability so much so they held him out of any Kevin Durant trade convers conversations they landed Kevin Durant anyway
which you know makes him sure Kevin Durant uh very happy to have him there in the mix before you go as if you weren’t busy enough we got other news to get to because Detroit Pistons guard Malik Beasley he made headlines today for allegations that are related to gambling what more can you tell us about that story Shams
the US District Attorney I’m told is investigating Malik Beasley for alleged gambling on NBA games and prop bets the alleged allegations uh occurred during the 2023 2024 season his attorney did tell me an investigation is not a charge malik is afforded the same right of the presumption of innocence as anyone else under the US Constitution so he has not been charged with anything yet but he was set to sign a three-year $42 million deal with the Pistons to return now those talks are on pause his entire free agency is on hold this is an active investigation
as you said allegations right now we will continue following this story we know you will be all over it as you will with everything else that’s happening as we get ready for negotiations for free agency can officially begin 600 p.m eastern on Monday he won’t be sleeping all week though Sean we appreciate it

Shams Charania joins SportsCenter to discuss stories around the NBA ahead of the beginning of free agency at 6p ET on Monday including LeBron James opting to stay with the Los Angeles Lakers for a $52.6M extension, James Harden signing a new 2-year deal with the Clippers, Julius Randle agreeing to a 3-year contract with $100 million to remain with the Minnesota Timberwolves and Jabari Smith Jr. being set to sign a 5-year/$122M rookie extension with the Houston Rockets.

  1. So LeBron wants to win yet he won’t take a pay cut. Ok got it. The chosen one these πŸ₯œ

  2. Bron chose greed over being able to get a better team around him. He finna get bounced in the 1st round for the 3rd straight season 🀣

  3. The Clippers are not trying to win a Championship. They want to be just good enough to stay in the playoffs every year to generate revenue

  4. Dear Lakers, don't ever sign anyone with no trade clause. Lebron set us back yet another year. Let's replace clueless Rob Pelinka first.

  5. Lawrence Frank needs to be fired. He repeatedly does things like this Harden contract, that show terrible insight.

  6. LeBron one season with Lakers for $52.6M!!!! After tax and all that shet it's still like $20M? Jeez. Imagine playing 1 year of basketball and getting paid $52.6M! Life is a joke! We have surgeons saving people's lives on the operation table and they paid like what $400K max? I know from the bottom on my heart that life is a big joke. Unless you are a professional sport player or a movie star you will be just an average 9 to 5 person living pay check to pay check. To be honest life is only for these people the rich and famous. We are nobodies. These millionaires and billionaires are what life is all about. We the rest are just rats or slaves wasting our time slaving for some company just to get old and pass. Good for you Lebron. I know if there is such place as heaven you Lebron are living in it.

  7. So happy for the greedy Beasley how u making millions and still cheating hope he never gets a contract he can just be a bookie

  8. Great move by the Rockets front office. That Jabari contact is gonna look like a steal in a year.

And as far as Beasley, I don't want to hear it. Not as long as Scott Foster is out there living his best life.

  9. 0:53 that’s technically correct, but had Luka played the whole season with the Lakers, he would have been the team leader in total points.

  10. No one really care about Lebron James, everyone wishes he would just retire and get out of everyone way. Lebron is just doing this to stay in the media and get attention. No other NBA team but the Lakers wants Lebron James on their team, he's a defensive liability and ball Hogg. Lebron James isn't going to make any other NBA team better he will just make the team worst and then blame the coach and everyone else. But in the end Lebron James isn't getting traded he will still be with Lakers, he knows other teams and players don't want to play with him.

  11. What happened to no Ring Culture LeBron? πŸ˜‚ dude is a straight up liar bro. Let me guess, he’s gonna go chase talent on another team that’s stacked and get some more help πŸ˜‚
