Cleveland Cavaliers cut ties with Emoni Bates; Bates is now an unrestricted free agent
A little bit of breaking news before we get to our next topic, but it is official. The Cavaliers did not tender a two-way qualifying offer to Amani Bates. A source tells Chris Fiedor at Cleveland.com, which means Amani Bates is officially an unrestricted free agent now. Gee, this could be the end of the Amani Bates era, and I have gotten 6 texts in the last 3 minutes since the news broke asking we need G. Bush’s immediate reaction. So. Bates era is over in Cleveland. Your thoughts? Well, listen, I, I always said this, uh, a lot of where you get your career from and how you go about starting your career is not so much about where you, what you’re doing or your skill set, it’s about where you’re at. When the NBA has a numbers game, right? You got a numbers game and you have to have the ability to grow and actually show what you’re able to do. Uh, Amani bases in the G-League was not gonna get him where he needed to go. He needed an opportunity to, to, to, you know, get in the roster, get in the games, figure out what the league is, figure out how, where, where his spots are, and, and to have somebody believe in what he can do. So a lot of that is figuring out where’s the best uh uh landing spot is. When they took him in the 2nd round, you look at it, they had a lot of other two-way players. They got Jalen Tyson, they had Sam Merrill, um, they just signed Sam Merri. Ty Jerome is another guy. We just talked about Ty Jerome. He had a great year last year, and he looks like he’s not gonna stick with the Cavs. So at the end of the day, I still think he, he like, you know, like Shaq and a lot of other players say, I think he has a, a skill set. You know, I wish him the best of luck. I hope he gets his opportunity somewhere, and I think this won’t be the last you hear of him. Actually, I think his career will blossom now because he’ll go to a place we’ll have an opportunity to play. And for me, I’m all about look, if I feel like you can play, if it ain’t gonna be here. I go somewhere where you can play. I’ve, I’ve led this. I’ve done this in my life. Sometimes you work at a place or you go different places and you may let you may say I wanna advance. I wanna do this. I want my own show. I want this. I want all that other stuff, and maybe they got a roster that’s full and they don’t give you the opportunity. So now you gotta go build your own stuff. Go somewhere else where somebody wanna give you a chance and, and you can be able to blossom and, and, and, and do your thing. So shout out to him. He’s, I know he’s working hard and uh. Uh, you know, I enjoyed watching him while he’s in Cleveland, but I think he’s gonna get an opportunity to show what he can do somewhere else. I agree. I hope he does. I’d like to see what he, you know, it’s, it’s fun for us to say about the Browns quarterback position. Well, we’re gonna find out. Well, I wanna find out about Amani Bates. I mean, some of us think we know, but look, it’s happened before where guys that we thought couldn’t play go somewhere else and can play, and I hope it’s him. I hope he gets a chance. I like his story. And uh hopefully he’ll land with the right team. I think that’s critical. It’s critical. — You
— can’t land with another contender. It’s it’s critical in the NBA, you know, we talk about it. Hey, hey Matt McClung is a, is a guy who’s still in the G-League, and he was a G-League MVP wins dunk contest, but it’s all about fulfilling a role and finding somewhere where you can go where you can actually get an opportunity to show what you can do. JB likes him, watch Detroit as a possible landing point or just go to Europe and make a lot of money. That’s that’s another option too. That’s another option too. All right, — very
— good. He can make a lot of money in Europe seriously, if he, if he wants to go that route, could absolutely I still think Amani has a chance to G’s point on the right team to become some kind of, some kind of NBA player. We’ll see what caliber, but it’s gotta buy into the team system. Let’s, uh, let’s put it that way.
Emoni Bates’ time in Cleveland looks to be over as the Cleveland Cavaliers haven’t tenured his 2-way contract.
G Bush gives instant reactions to the move.
