Breaking Down the Brooklyn Nets’ Trade for Terance Mann & Drake Powell Pick | Smart Move?
what’s going on brooklyn nets fans welcome back into the brooklyn boys show alongside connor long i’m josh wiver we are just a day removed from the nba draft the nets made a lot of interesting choices but their 22nd overall pick was acquired from a three-team deal with the atlanta hawks and boston celtics that sent brooklyn the 22nd overall pick and terrence man as a salary dump moved chris porzingis to atlanta boston celtics received georgees nang in a second round pick connor why do you think the nets won this trade
it’s a great deal for the nets josh because they gained a first round pick they ultimately utilized all five first round picks in this year’s nba draft the first team to do so in nba history so they gained a first round pick to allocate towards young talent number one i thought they got a great young player in drake powell from uncc who could develop into a three and d guy an athletic specimen provide you value as a defensive threat and then you also added a solid rotational wing and in man who could play some defense is the contract ideal no at three years $47 million are the are the nets able to carry it 1,000% this team leads the league in cap space they’re really going to command the league they’re going to lead the league in decisions being made i could see them coming in throughout the remainder of the offseason to help facilitate three team deals like such that involve a huge contract like uh chris sperzingis and other players with multi-year deals uh needing to be uh dealt away from that team in order to complete a a a big move so i think this is a great move for the brooklyn nets and let me add this and they didn’t have to give up anything the you know the penalty here for brooklyn some would say is taking on the contract but brooklyn did not give up any draft pick brooklyn did not give up any player they’re taking on the terren mad contract and they added a first round pick love this deal for shawn marks
i think they did give up uh that second that did end up boston but double check me on that one they did not
um they did not okay well i’m looking i’m looking at that they did but anyways i digress i i agree with you that i think the nets are ultimately winners whether they give up a second round pick or not that doesn’t really affect my stance on this look when you bring in a first round pick and a guy who can be a key role player for a nets team that is fully embracing the youth movement you’re right after drafting all five of their first round picks and terrence man the contract’s going to be a little tough on you to eat but when you have the most salary cap in the nba it should not be a huge issue at all with terrence mann’s contract i do like what they did at with drake powell at 22 huge upside guy defensively 7 foot wingspan if he can develop on the offensive side of the ball i think this is one of the steels of the draft again the theme of this draft for brooklyn was take raw talent try to develop them through the coaching staff key example being drake powell he’s so great defensively he can pick your pocket whenever great defender if he can develop into a solid three-point shooter he can be a key piece i i was talking to you before this show a comp like alex caruso for that thunder final run who is a key contributor on the defensive side of the ball maybe not so much offensively but he did his important role he got his playmakers the ball on the offensive end one more thing before we go here connor i know i know you love this uh this deal for brooklyn do you see more of this coming up in the offseason or do you see brooklyn focusing in on free agency instead
i think they’re obviously going to shift more of their focus towards free agency but if we see another big deal like this where a big player a big contract is being moved uh like chris taps porzingis was for this uh for this instance certainly because brooklyn is going to command the lead brooklyn is going to control the league when it comes to cap decisions i was a little surprised that they weren’t involved in the kd trade they get involved with the pursing deal so don’t count it out but i think the majority of shawn mark’s focus is going to be retaining some of his players most importantly extending cam thomas while also trying to add some exterior free agents this off season but i think that you can’t certainly can’t count the nets out just because of how much cap space they have and how much they kind of command the league in this facet absolutely a ton of choices to be made up coming in free agency the biggest of which being cam thomas guys before we go here make sure to drop down below this video smash that like button hit subscribe helps push out our content to other nets fans helps us build the community we really do appreciate it and drop your thoughts opinions on this draft and this trade in the comments below that also helps us very much alongside connor long i’m josh williver for the brooklyn boys show we will see you all on the next one and as always let’s go nets
