we got a lot to talk about to start yet another great week a beautiful summer week in central Indiana indiana sports popping like the kids say and and here are the stories we’re going to discuss number one we’re going to talk about the Pacers and the offer that they’ve reportedly provided Miles Turner as he kind of tries to figure out what he’s going to do as a free agent i think it’s too much i don’t like it uh Miles Turner is a mildly competent component to a really good team i don’t know who you get to replace him but I don’t like paying a guy this much money for mediocrity we’re going to talk about that we’ll talk about the Indianapolis Colts colts still kicking the tires potentially on free agents there are still some top 100 free agents out there and one is still at a position of need at least from a depth perspective for the Indian Indianapolis Colts uh we’re going to talk about the Fever caitlyn Clark is going to be a captain of one of the all-star teams uh we’ll see if the Fever get anybody else on the All-Star team i They’re roughly a 500 team they got a game tomorrow night for the Commissioners Cup the Commissioner’s Cup is worth 500 grand that is a lot of money to WNBA players we’ll talk about that we will talk about the Indiana Hooers who got a commitment from a guard over the weekend they keep offering a lot of people but the commitment they got is from a guard who’s ranked outside the top 100 and I dig it i like getting This is odd i grant you but uh guys who commit and guys that Indiana offers outside the top 100 I think show a commitment from let’s talk about the Indiana Pacers all right miles Turner reportedly gets a three-year extension offer from the Pacers at a level of $25 million a year i don’t get it i don’t like rewarding mediocrity at the level it’s being rewarded here i don’t like a guy who in the NBA finals averaged 10 and four and you could say I think it’s 10.4 four and four and a half and and he’s going to make $25 million a year what the hell are we doing here he he is a a a good shot blocker not a very good not a very mobile defender so I I’m not happy with this i would rather go invest elsewhere so you say “All right if not Miles Turner who?” I get it that’s a quick question it’s a reflexive question and it’s a good question to ask i don’t know i don’t think it’s DeAndre Aton i don’t like DeAndre Aton in that he’s gone to pay uh Portland and he hadn’t played a hell of a lot played like 40 games this past year not thrilled with that there is no real backup center on this team that’s ambulatory as we speak maybe Isaiah Jackson comes back from that Achilles tear maybe James Weisman comes back from that Achilles tear and and they sign deals prove it deals and show themselves to be worthy of some minutes i get it i get your concerns but I don’t like paying maybe the sixth best player on this team $25 million a year and putting you in a position where maybe you’ve got to trade Benedict Mathan and or Obie Topphen those guys ball those guys are in ascension miles Turner’s in decline over the last two years two years ago in in 22 23 Miles Turner was pretty damn good and then the year after not so good and the year after that not so good again i don’t want the Pacers to put themselves in a jackpot where they’ve got to pay a guy in decline big cash to play on this team and put Herb Simon into the luxury tax where he can’t do much other than what he’s already done i like the idea of this team ascending not placating mediocre eric Dobby says “What’s the status of Shaq Leonard?” And uh do you consider Big Q a possible Hall of Famer i’ve heard nothing about Shaq Leonard nothing at all and and that kind of makes me sad i really like him he is a nice human being a really good guy and and his body just wouldn’t let him continue to compete as it had 217 12 lbs is not heavy enough to play linebacker in the NFL very fast not in the end but look slow and small is no way to make a living as a linebacker and so Shaq Leonard is on the outside looking in i’d love to see him get back at it i’m sure he’s working out like hell uh but he’s just not there at this point great question and and uh one of my favorites like in the locker room he would do everything he could to accommodate everyone and and I like him a lot um as far as Quentyn Nelson I think he is a potential Hall of Famer but I don’t know whether he’s going to be a Hall of Famer i I would rather see he’s kind of like a a current day version of John Hannah who played for the Patriots back in the day and was a really really good guard you look at the really really good guards you know look at Zack Martin right for the Cowboys zack Martin what did he do like did he ever get the Cowboys to a Super Bowl no because guards can’t get teams to Super Bowls guards can help a little bit quentyn Nelson helps a little bit but Quentyn Nelson it he’s not going to be the uh the lever that gets the the Colts to the level of success that they need in in order to I think validate Hall of Fame status so I I think he could be one but is he i guess we’re going to find out we’ll see what kind of what kind of compelling case Mike Chapel makes to the uh that gang that get together at the Super Bowl week and and decide who the Hall of Famers are going to be but I do not like the idea of trading Benedict Mathan or Obie Toppenhen because otherwise you can’t afford Miles Turner that just doesn’t make sense to me iu got a commitment from a guard prince Alexander Moody he is 6’4 he’s a four-star guard some services grade him as a three star i don’t care about stars i don’t care about rankings that this guy at the level he has uh been ranked is a target for Indiana shows me that Indiana in just looking at measurables and in just looking at rankings as they decide who the hell they’re going to offer and I like that about Darren Dere uh Prince Alexander Moody is a National Honor Society member seems like a very very well put together guy he’s playing well this summer he can shoot it a little bit he can drive a little bit he defends with tenacity i like it last what what you get when you see somebody and I think he’s ranked 140th something like that so Prince Alexander Moody when you go after a guy like that what you’re showing is that you care more about some of the more esoteric some of the more subjective measures uh than you do the obvious measures oh he’s a plus seven in length oh he you know he’s got a standing uh vertical of 42 i don’t care what I care is about people who work work work play really really hard get it done on the floor have figured out maybe how to overcome some athletic limitations in order to be able to win that’s what I’m looking for i’m looking for somebody who recruits maybe a little bit like the Boiler Makers they go out and get guys who are ranked outside the top 100 but they can play their asses off they’re looking they’re detailoriented in their recruiting i like that a lot let’s get some of that mhm and we did with Prince Alexander Moody some people are going to say “Oh no oh no they’re recruiting outside the top 100 indiana’s a blue blood they blah blah blah no no no stop that go get guys who can play basketball and play basketball in a collaborative fashion work hard together all right Colts camp just over three weeks away free agent still available worth considering all right uh how about Justin Simmons i like Justin Simmons 31 years old all right that’s a little long in the tooth but safeties who are old sometimes know how to play and know how to play at a high level we remember Mike Adams right a lot of us remember uh Quinton Michael didn’t play with the Colts but another kind of long in the tooth guy played into his 30s and was really productive it might be nice even with Binham even with uh you got Nick Cross but when you get beyond those two guys who you got at safety who can play Rodney Thomas i I want depth at safety and Simmons provides you depth at safety and he’s still on the street and there’s no reason really not to go out and sign him how about Stefon Gilmore i know you got some depth at the quarterback position because he signed Mooney Ward but Gilmore could play i say no to Gilmore because Gilmore said no to us he said no to the city of Indianapolis he said no to the Colts he asked his way out of here once you do that the bridge is burned there is no coming back from that i hope he signs elsewhere but I I I hope he doesn’t play too terribly well to be uh to be honest with you yes I’m bitter i have no problem admitting it how about Brandon Sherf brandon Sheriff offensive guard signed a big deal with the uh Jacksonville Jaguars a few years ago he’s 33 years old but he’s still serviceable and I guess it comes down to whether Tony Spirano Jr thank the offensive line coach thinks that uh you know what Matt Gonz brings to the party is sufficient enough for the Colts to be able to survive at right guard without a guy like Brandon Sheriff sheriff 33 but he’s really experienced he’s a guy who has played and has been healthy the last three years that’s a good thing i like Brandon Sherf how about Julian Blackman bringing Blackman back he tore his rotator cuff in week one last year played through it obviously couldn’t throw his body out there the way he would like but maybe that rotator cuff is healed we don’t know and if it is maybe he can come back and and play a little bit be a guy who off the bench does a nice job he’s a nice He’s a good guy he’s a really good athlete freak athlete and a guy who can go get the football now he he didn’t throw his shoulder into guys as much as he would like last year but he had the torn rotator cuff what the hell was he supposed to do that the Colts didn’t have the depth necessary to put somebody out there in place of Julian Blackman with his torn rotator cuff that tells you a little bit of something about the depth issues at safety so let’s correct some of those can we uh fever oh uh there will be roster discussions uh coming up as soon as camp starts we’re going to start talking about the roster i don’t think that the Colts going to go into this season carrying five tight ends again i don’t think that happens you You’ve got Galanti Woods back so it’s Woods Ogalree Gransson’s gone you’ve got Mallalerie you’ve got Moali Cox and obviously you’ve got Tyler Warren not going to keep all five of them guys that’d be a lot uh Fever they play tomorrow night for uh cash in the Commissioners Cup that’d be nice half million dollars on the line for the Fever and Caitlyn Clark is going to be the captain of an All-Star team come uh July 19th in Indianapolis we know that we know who the captains are going to be we do not know whether uh any other Indiana Fever are going to be on the All-Star team i would assume Kelsey Mitchell maybe Aaliyah Boston uh who knows we’ll find out let’s celebrate some birthdays
