All the Smoke’s Matt Barnes: 76ers Should Have Drafted Ace Bailey 3rd Overall | The Rich Eisen Show
last night’s draft
oh yeah interesting what What uh what what did you find interesting about
Um it was the first draft I watched in a while um because I’d kind of been following this crop of kids um interesting to see how Ace Bailey does i think he’s a tremendous talent and I think his antics or his management antics had him slide a few slots that he didn’t want to slide to yeah
well I mean he was he was one away from apparently
I guess what he wanted so it almost happened it almost happened and but it just takes one team to just say
“Yeah
we don’t care if you don’t.”
And Danny A is that kind of guy that’s why I like Danny A danny A danny Age put a plug in that um so really interesting because I mean tremendous talent seen him play live got a chance to see Cooper play live like I said this is kind of the class I got to a chance to see so
um really excited what I kind of found interesting was and
I think this is kind of the disconnect from my era to this era is a lot of these kids you don’t know anything about like there’s no storylines you couldn’t really follow them in college and understand what they had there because there’s a lot of overseas guys and or or or the one and done so there’s a lot of kids that win in the first round that I was just like I think I know this game pretty well but I have no idea and that’s not a knock on their talent by any means they’re just not really names that you’ve got a chance to grow accustomed to yet
right and that’s again we were just talking about it before um you know the NFL draft when somebody’s drafted you’re like “Oh
you know the story
i saw I saw that guy light it up in the Big 12 i saw that person light it up in the SEC i know that’s a defensive player of the year from you know uh from the Big 10 that slid to the fourth round here it’s just like oh I got I guess I got to Google the Adriatic League
yeah and then and then sometimes you look at their numbers and their numbers aren’t overwhelming and you’re just like okay well let’s wait and see what happens so I I think that’s the only thing I kind of took away is like they’re not and I I wouldn’t I guess you can call some college guys household names but I just remember my air like you said to the football point you just made you kind of got to see their trajectory and and and know their past body of work and then you know have expectations for them once they make it but
uh with basketball now it’s so young and and and the one and done and and the influx of of talent from overseas you just don’t know any of these kids
yeah last year a lot of last two years a lot of G-League at the top um and now you’re seeing this was more of I I guess of a of a an international influence as well matt Barnes of All the Smoke uh here on the Rich Eisen Show um you said uh um Ace Bailey you saw him play what do you think Really
Yeah could put the ball in the basket i was It was interesting too because obviously he was listed at 610 but I guess without shoes they said 67 so he’s probably 6’8 68 and a half but outside of that his ability to put the ball in the basket is incredible uh his length his uh his his threele scoring uh just really impressed but I didn’t know him at all as a person so that that was the kind of the one thing that I just you know you hate to see young players whether it’s them or their representation kind of get them off to the wrong foot um in this league because this league is is is kind of like high school from a standpoint of everyone’s always gossiping about someone and a reputation can you know really harm you or harm your money and I just hate for you know guys to get into situations and harming their money before they get a chance to actually show their talent but I liked every time he spoke he’s like hey I’m keeping the main thing the main thing basketball is my main thing and that’s what I’m going to focus on so you know moving forward Utah probably wasn’t the landing destination he wanted to be in but uh he’s there now and and I’m sure he’s going to put his best foot forward obviously I I’m I’m you know I chocked up a lot of his comments where he was keeping the main thing the main thing I’m talking about basketball um as somebody was just like just say that just say that and even if it doesn’t fit we’ll get you through the interviews and get you drafted and get you done because he’s 18 and he’s just taking the advice I imagine um you know that said I I I I couldn’t imagine the Sixers if it is true that Baileyleyy’s like “Yeah I don’t want to come to do dinner uh I’m not breaking bread unless you give me a guarantee that you’re taking me how how can you draft that player after they say that and then look at the rest of the organization and say you know please do what we’re asking of you when we asked it of somebody who’s not even part of our organization and then made him part of our organization it’s tough
but I say with all due respect um I would much out of 10 times rather be in Philly than Utah you know what I mean And so I just think from a city standpoint obviously there’s talent talent in Utah excuse me there’s talent in Utah but you know talent in Philly it’s a little up in the air what Embiid and and PG are are going to be to that franchise moving forward but you know you have Maxi and uh and um the kid that got hurt this year
you know again Jared McCain
jared McCain yeah you know so you put those two with an upand cominging 68 score i mean I think that’s a you’re building for the future um regardless of what PG and and in and Embiid’s situations are so I don’t know i I would have been probably the same if I’m in a GM position I’m I’m saying f your demands um I’m like Danny A and and I’m going to take the best player available so I would have definitely took him at three knowing what the upside is and and and again being 18 he was probably heavily influenced by his camp and you just you know hope that basketball is basketball
so you think the Sixers should have just taken that
I think so i think so because of what you because the eye test talent over everything
yeah talent and again at a young I mean I was even immature in my in my 20s you know what I mean So you always know that people are going to outgrow the immaturities um that they may possibly come into to to the league with but the talent his talent is is is undeniable so I’m really excited for him uh he’s landed somewhere uh and we’re just going to have to see what happens catch the Rich Eisen Show live weekdays from 12 to 3:00 p.m

I think Utah is a great place for Ace Bailey. Utah management and coaching is all about developing raw talent. And Ace will get the minutes to maximize his potential. It's not like he's "trapped" in Utah. Look at Donovan Mitchell. I think if Ace goes to Utah with a positive attitude, he can improve and showcase himself over several years and maybe even rise to all-star level.
Philly has enough bs already, good move not grabbing a dense young bul , big chain small brain. Second fiddle over hyped , under weight soon to be hurt prospect..
"Keep the main thing the main thing" ~Jalen Hurts
I don’t like the VJ pick even a little bit. My son is trying to talk himself into liking it but not me. The Sixers should’ve swung for the fences and picked Bailey because of his potential huge upside. They were very lucky that they didn’t lose that pick to OKC to begin with. All things being equal if Bailey wasn’t a perceived headache with his demands, he clearly would’ve been the 76ers pick. I’m pissed off and really hope that VJ proves me wrong.
After seeing the results of his 1 season at LSU, and hearing what Shaq and Tracy McGrady had to say about him, I knew that Ben Simmons would 100% be a bust b4 he played a minute in the NBA. Nothing he has done in his career ever made me doubt that prediction… I am starting to get the same vibe about Ace Bailey, hopefully he doesn't follow that path
Ace seems like a character problem, glad the 6ers passed
Haha they listed him at 6’11 and came in at 6’7, that coupled with the advice he gave screwed him. Have fun in Utah 😂
AB = BS 2.0
I was unsure at first, but now that matt barnes said we shouldve taken ace bailey…..we definitely made the right choice
He doesn’t want the competition that’s on the sixers. I don’t think he has a championship mentality 😊it’s me, me, me!
seemed like a huge head piece. Take the better vibe
Completely agree with everything Matt said, especially that the Sixers should have drafted him. They going to regret not taking him
Ace Bailey is going to inefficiently put up a ton of points on bad teams while not contributing to winning. He’ll be the Wing version of Cam Thomas.
So glad we didn’t draft “Bust Bailey” lol
Ace is unbelievably overrated. He couldn’t blow past future salesman in college
Thanks Matt Barnes !!!! 76ers should’ve taken Ace 🤦🏿♂️🤦🏿♂️
Absolutely not.. his camp threatened to not report to camp if the sixers drafted him. He would be making a huge mistake but at the same time the 76ers have had so much drama and BS to deal with, we just need a normal effing sesson for once.
Idk how we, the sixers, didn't take him. He was worth the risk
Why draft someone who clearly didn't want to be here,,, absolutely NOT
Nah we’re good. Thanks
I’m side eyeing Daryl Morey hard for this draft botch. Let’s be very honest here my fellow sixers fan…. That draft was peak sixers front office stupidity. Ace Bailey was the pick sixers always finds away to make the boneheaded “smart pick “
Barnes spitting facts here. Really enjoying his opt to be apart of media post-NBA career
VJ Edgecombe, rookie of the year, and the best player in this class.
Bailey still has yet to show up in Utah.
Baileys attitude makes me think his game might not translate well to the nba and he might end up missing a lot of shots. On the reverse he may completely live up to the ego and the hype.
A few more ink spots is all this guy needs what a joke.
Ace Bailey is Corey Brewer 2.0
Philly got talent it’s self he we will always have a spot to hoop at this a basketball city fr
