the Memphis Grizzlies have robbed the NBA once again ty Jerome former guard of the Cleveland Cavaliers has agreed to a deal with the Memphis Grizzlies that’s pretty shocking and one you don’t want to miss out on hi everybody welcome back to another episode of Grizzlies Digest i’m Tristed Harland i told you I got told you guys I’d be back and it was just a matter of time when free agency started that Zack Kimman was going to go out and he was going to find himself some dogs so guys before we begin I want to remind everybody that 91.1% of you guys are not clicking that subscribe button now those of you that don’t know who this guy is he’s a former Cleveland Cavaliier guard he averaged 12 and a half points this past season two and a half rebounds per game 3.4 assists and I mean you guys see the stats there and he shot over 50% from the field 44% from three-point land and honestly what a signing what a signing by the Memphis Grizzlies now if you guys are wondering oh what what uh what’s the deal look like well of course according to Mark Stein Ty Jerome is projecting Memphis to secure free agent Ty Jerome in the annual range of 9 to10 million now here’s the thing this is a pretty huge pickup for the Grizzlies now this is probably the biggest free agent signing they’ve had since 2019 when they signed Tus Jones and before that 2017 when they signed Kyle Anderson who I believe is still in the league if not he just retired but slow-mo you know you always got my love my guy but yeah so Ty Jerome the guy who arguably was a huge part of the Cleveland Cavaliers scoring offense of course with Donovan Mitchell scoring 60 points here and there and I mean being an absolute dog jerome was there to hit the threes and he was there to do a lot of things that a lot of people were surprised when they heard that he was not returning to even Clavalers now me personally I love I love the pickup because here’s here’s the thing they were trying to find a replacement for Bane a lot of people were like “Oh yeah they drafted the replacement blah blah blah blah.” But this guy the way he can shoot The Rock dude let me tell you let me tell you this is somebody Grizzly fans are going to fall in love with from game one when he starts playing for the Memphis Grizzlies this is a guy that pe the fans are going to love to see they’re going to have jerseys on with his last name on the back and they’re going to be chanting “Whoop that trick!” after he hits a big three-pointer late in the fourth quarter to go up by six or hit a dagger to win the game this guy is exactly what the Grizzlies needed to do especially as free agency is starting here in the US and all over the world the Memphis Grizzlies have finally done something in free agency now again a lot of people like to make the joke Zack Kleman doesn’t do anything in free agency well ladies and gentlemen he just made a big move we were waiting to see what he was going to do if he was going to trade somebody and then sign somebody or if he was going to sign Jiren Jackson Jr to an extension sign and trade with Santiama but this signing right here Chef’s kiss but you to get to know this guy a little bit more i want to take a look at this his shooting splits now you’re seeing it this is all from all over the floor of course he shot two half court shots i believe these were possibly to end the half or to win the game or just just for just for hahas and buddies now from a top 35.3% I mean or I’m sorry excuse me 43.4% 4% 92 of 212 from the corner he’s shooting 13 of 22 6 to 17 from the other corner i mean look here’s here’s the thing for all my hoop heads all my hoop heads for for someone to come on this roster and to be a reliable shooter this is this is it to the tea i mean you’re not going to find a much better shooter for what the Grizzlies are getting this guy at i mean again he’s getting it getting signed at the around the nine to$10 million uh range so the biggest question is is what role is he going to play on the offense is he going to play a bench role where he’s going to kind of fill in Luke Canard shoes or is he going to fill in the Desmond Bane role where he’s going to be thrown into the starting lineup and he’s going to be reliable and he’s going to be dependent on to hit some three-pointers now I’ve been watching a lot of this tape here all day um in preparation for the 5:00 hour to hit for free agency to start and let me tell you for those of you that are making the comparison between Luke Canard and Tai Jerome please see yourself to the door because this guy has is literally a night and day difference from Luke Canard where Luke Canard was scared to shoot the ball a little bit this guy’s going to let it fly no matter if it’s a good shot or not now he’s probably going to be a little bit more consistent hitting the shot than Desmond May was after the All-Star break but time will tell what the offense is going to look like because again new coach new system new It’s going to be a new look offense for the Grizzlies I’ll just put two that way um but from the overall grand scheme of things what this means for the Grizzlies what this means for the Grizzlies to me is that hey they found their shooter now they can focus on getting Jiren that extension or they can look to trade CoAnthony get that salary dump that they wanted to do earlier last week I believe is what the report said so you add a little bit more money and now you you get your guy and who knows what Zack Kimman’s got up his sleeve because everybody makes a joke oh Zack Klyman’s not going to do anything he’s just going to let everything go by and you know we’re going to start the season with the same guys we had last season well ladies and gentlemen this is the step in the right direction now for Grizzly fans like me the only thing you wanted to see was your team make a splash in free agency the impact Jerome is going to have on this roster immediately and long term is going to be huge now while the first half of last season the Grizzlies were like I think third in the conference at one point and they ended up finishing eighth I feel like Jerome is that missing piece that way the shooting can be consistent and the defense can be consistent because I mean let’s be honest between each other now we’re family we could be honest desmond Bane in the in Clutch really wasn’t consistent on defense luke Canard really got lazy towards the tail end of his stint with the Grizzlies so you bring in Jerome he’s a young guy he’s coming off a very successful season with the Cleveland Cavaliers i mean he’s already he’s got a lot of NBA experience playing with the Cavs and the Suns um this this is a a turning of the new page I would like to say because again we go back and we make the joke oh Climman doesn’t do anything klyman doesn’t sign nobody haha whatever now you got your guy now I’m no fortune teller i’m not somebody that’s gonna sit here and tell you that come December Jerome’s gonna be leading the NBA in three-point percentage he’s gonna be leading the NBA in three-pointers made the Grizzlies are going to have the best scoring offense in the NBA come the month of December when the season is just starting but what I will say is this this guy being Ty Jerome being added excuse me Ty Jerome being added to the roster not only takes the pressure off Jaw and Jiren but it takes the pressure off everybody feeling like they have to get the ball to Jon Jiren because that’s where injuries occur now we heard a report from Paul Pal from Paul George on his podcast that the NBA teams aren’t practicing as much as they used to now if the Grizzlies aren’t practicing as much as you know again this is just a reference then of course I’m scared for injur I have injury concerns but we’re not going to get into that we’re going to knock on wood because we’re not going to manifest that but instead of everybody expecting John Jiren to each average over 20 this is going to allow the offense to open up that corner shot to open up the pocket to open to open up brand new avenues for Jiren to get down inside for J to slash when he wants to because the way John Morant is successful in my opinion is when he’s an isolated isolation type of player when he’s handling the ball on a pick and roll and he’s throwing up a lob to Clark or Santi or Jiren or Edy or somebody of that nature now that Ty Jerome is a part of the Grizzlies you open up a significantly more percentage of three-pointers that will be attempted by the Grizzlies at the very least and you will maximize the minutes that the Grizzlies will have the ball because Jerome if he misses it I saw the clips if he misses it he’s going to crash for the offensive rebound if his teammate misses it he’s going to crash for the offensive rebound so this guy is going to add a another layer of not protection but add another layer layer of flavor to the Grizzlies offense but time will tell how successful the signing is i’m a huge fan of it time will tell if there’s any more moves made by Climman and the Memphis Grizzlies in free agency if there are be sure to turn on post notifications
