FREE AGENCY BEGINS! Can Chicago Bulls get Jonathan Kuminga in sign-and-trade? | CHGO Bulls Podcast

on the all NBA team
what up Bulls Nation we’ve got a live CS Joe Bulls podcast coming up for y’all right around the corner nba free agency opens in 30 minutes we are going to be here on set reacting to anything that might unfold plus talking about all the other latest free agency and trade rumors surrounding our Chicago Bulls next Heat heat trouble what’s going on Bulls Nation welcome in to the CHO Sports C Bulls podcast coming to you live from our studios here in West Loop downtown Chicago i’m back bulls_pack that’s big Dave who just made me laugh right before we started bow bow p sports will the golly perfectly quaffed as always will go he’s got the feet up he moved the set pieces to do so
katie queen of the controls how are we doing are we okay
um you know I’m here um yeah
and your coffee table set deck is different because of goat’s feet
it’s different i mean there’s a lot of restrictions on me i’m not allowed to move the trophy to another part of the table no
I have to cover Dave’s child somehow and now I have to accommodate Will’s feet it’s a lot of things to juggle we’ve been doing the show for 4 years this is not
This is This is not new
well I’ve only been here since October i get uncomfortable just in the same position for too long i got to move around
oh my goodness well go i hope your feet are happy katie I hope we can all move past this
together um because it’s an important big day
yes
nba free agency opens at 5:00 Central time it is currently 4:34 central time less than a half hour to go we’ve already seen many players make deals uh that have been announced over the last few days to stay with their current teams and uh you know gentlemen we’ll see if we get any sort of Josh Giddy news over the next hour hour and a half uh in the first hour of free agency being open but
kind of makes you wonder if the deal was agreed upon between Giddy his representation and the Bulls we would have heard about it by now because we heard about a lot of deals already
yeah i mean yeah I think it’s a good thing though yeah I had to pause for a second because I was about to you know I stopped myself from saying craziness
but I think it’s a good thing it still means that they’re actually taking their time and negotiating and you know crossing the tees and dotting the eyes we know it’s going to happen it’s going to happen we know it’s inevitable uh I would be surprised if it doesn’t happen today to be real with you like we know we know what’s going down i would be okay if it didn’t happen today and they took their time and more time with this stuff but I think the end of the day guys I’m just curious to see what the number is going to be um because I think we both we all three of us kind of have an idea what we’d like the number to be what we think the number should be but we think it might be different from what the front office is willing to uh give uh young Joshua
so I’m curious to see what it turns out to be but I expect it to happen today i really do i expect to go down today whether it’s at 5:01 or whether it happens at 10 p.m later tonight
so I guess I’m a little bit more skeptical Dave because
you really how about that
just news
should we just end the show there
just news right there man just
so free agent teams are allowed to negotiate with their own free agents as soon as the finals are over
okay so the Bulls theoretically could have signed Giddy by now like officially not just like agreed to terms not just a leak of the news but they I mean we saw what happened with Nas Reed a guy who obviously was an unrestricted free agent but he already went back to his team same with Julius Randle we’re seeing a lot of these types of deals
if there was something that was complete or just a couple of dotted eyes and cross tees away from signing something I think Matt’s right that it would have already happened and so I am starting to think that this might get dragged out a little bit okay
um and it’s it may still happen today but you see just like what’s out there in the marketplace i’m not saying the Bulls are going to make him go get an offer but I think they have primed it now for Giddy to go out there and look to see what else is out there and again not necessarily get an offer and sign it and force the Bulls to match but
I do think that there is going to be a realization from Giddy’s camp of like there just aren’t a lot of good options out there and so maybe they are now considering
whatever is the Bulls offer do we want to take that or do we want to bet on ourselves and play on the qualifying offer and become an unrestricted free agent um as you so wisely suggested months ago Dave so um I Yeah I I roasted for I still think I still think the Bulls end up getting a deal done
but I do think that this is a sign and again 501 all bets are off who knows but I do think that this is a sign that they are taking this um a little bit more um judiciously and playing a little bit more
of hard ball with Giddy and again I like I I wrote about this the other day maybe we can just like give our takes on what we think a good offer would be or how we would prefer they play this for me it was I think they should start negotiations at 5 years hundred million that’s $20 million a year that is obviously way lower than what the number has been described as but there’s just not a team out there that that’s going to give him that much money
and so
you’re telling Josh Giddy yeah we want to keep you around but like this is a good number for us and I think they should be willing to go up to probably about 25 is where I would feel comfortable and if he goes out and gets an offer sheet then that’s a separate conversation but in terms of the initial offer that I’m making Josh Giddy if I’m the Bulls that’s kind of the range that I’m hoping to be in
and um yeah if you’re giddy it’s like yeah I want $30 million i’m not going to just sign for 20 right away and so maybe there is some incentives that if the Bulls make the playoffs or if Giddy makes an all-star team or something like that happens then he gets additional bonuses um or maybe it really is going to be you know he goes to the Nets and says “Make me the best offer you can.” um bulls are going to match it anyway but like let’s get me as much money as possible yeah so I think that’s an possibility but I do think that
just by virtue of the fact that they haven’t yet come to an agreement that
this is not going to be giddy take whatever you want like and let’s just move forward
do you like that does that
Yeah I think that’s I think that’s how they should be playing i think you look at how it went last year it was Patrick Williams signing before free agency started yeah and so the Bulls didn’t it wasn’t necessarily that they didn’t like let him test the market and go out and get another offer sheet although I think that would have been a better approach it was that they jumped the gun before they really even had to and I think they are this is showing that they’re they’ve learned from that a little bit in the sense that they’re playing this um a little bit more conservatively and and just showing Giddy that like they aren’t in a position where they have to give him whatever he wants just because he wants it
yeah i mean like Yeah the the Pat thing i think maybe had they let him truly test the market last summer I’m not saying he would have gotten some crazy offer that was bigger than the what you know 5 years 90 that he got from the Bulls but I think that there was a chance that he could have gotten a legitimate offer that the Bulls would have had then to have had match because at least a few teams out there probably saw some untapped potential in Pat oh the Bulls weren’t using him the right way they didn’t develop him the right way this is still a young player with lots of potential so we’ll throw an offer at him that’s reasonable not outrageous with Giddy you know you’re talking about testing a theoretical market go and the fact that one doesn’t seem to really exist when you look around the league and at every team’s cap sheets and mentioning Brooklyn in particular like to me if if if the message from the Bulls to Giddy is in fact go test the market cuz they’re wary of signing somebody to too much money in too many years when the competition isn’t there
the market for Giddy right now is a bunch of tumble weeds made of crickets like it’s not there and so I think that
so it should be the Bulls using that leverage i know some Bulls fans get weirdly triggered like why well just because the Bulls have leverage doesn’t mean they should use it it’s like yeah it does
yeah it does took him down a little bit
double weed made of crickets is brilliant and I I agree Matt i I don’t think this is a situation like for me I guess I’ll say like I think Giddy got a lot better in the second half of the year he improved as a shooter he obviously led the team to a successful run obviously it didn’t end the way that they wanted him to but like I do think that his improvements combined with the fact that the Bulls played well and that he really fits into the structure of something that they want to build means that they should bring him back and I think he’s earned that like they he has earned a spot um on this team for me and so this is not like Giddy’s thinks I want him to walk and leave for nothing i don’t feel that way at all but I do think that the Bulls are in a position where they can get a good deal and so the way that they should be thinking about this is if we sign Giddy to a $30 million a year deal for four or five years whether it’s 120 or 150 what team out there is going to give us a first round pick to take on that contract probably not very many i mean you’re seeing how a lot of these guys are getting squeezed uh just in the marketplace in general players like DeAndre Aton last night coming to a buyout agreement because his contract was so much they didn’t want to take on bad salary for that so this is not like a you know give Giddy an offensive offer and disgruntle him and like hope that he walks for nothing it’s just like how can you build a team that works together within the very harsh rules of the salary cap and so I do I do think that they need to be thinking about it that way and again $100 million $125 million over four or five years is a lot of money to turn down next year the qualifying offer for Giddy is 11.1 million so if he turns down 20 million he’s saying goodbye to $9 million that he could have had this year and like what if he gets hurt next year
and like you still have questions about him yes there are more teams on the market but like teams still have questions about him now you’re adding an injury into the fold like hopefully that doesn’t happen hopefully he just continues to play well and get better but for me I just think that’s a lot of money to turn down and I know it’s not like percentage of the cap and all this stuff that like players have you know pride and ego about how much they’re making and what that says about their role in the league and their stature but at the end of the day $100 million is a lot to turn down and so I think a deal in that range whether it’s four years um or five in the Jabari Smith range which is where he signed yesterday i think it was 5122 to me that’s the deal that the Bulls should be hoping to get him in i think that’s a lot of money for him i think that’s a fair value for him and it puts a position puts the Bulls in a position where they can still have flexibility make trades if they need to to either build with him or move him down the line yeah and that contract right there 5122 is fair because I still think Josh Giddy has stuff to prove and to just hand him over you know 30 million bucks means you’ve proven it already and you have not and you’ve been trained for a reason you know what I’m saying so there’s some stuff he has to prove and that is a nice chunk of change and a nice piece of money for a guy that really has to prove that he is the man of this team the Bulls are building their entire everything around Josh Giddy just look at the free agents that I’m sorry look at the trades that they just made bringing in Isaac Auroro look at the guys that they’re drafting of guys who can get out and run and spread the floor like this is all just to surround a guy like Josh Giddy and he’s got to prove that he can be that guy if to build build around to have a team built around him and him being that guy everybody you know kind of eats off of and him kind of feed everyone so in hindsight and that 15 and five site yeah it looks great and yeah it could work but we need to see it for 82 games and that’s the prove it part of it and that’s why I’m was against giving him that 30 million if he gets it i mean shout out to him if he walks away and gets it like that shout out to him but I think the Bulls are in a rare position of power and I don’t want them to you know to not operate from that just to come down to a position of weakness to give him you know what he wants give him what you feel he needs and what you feel he deserves
like to me it’s a question it the matter is does the Bulls front office the people negotiating these deals do they see the March Midness extravaganza of Giddy as a large enough sample size to reward him with those kind of figures because Bulls fans I think are split on that some say “Hey did you see what Giddy did after the All-Star break that’s a star in the making pay the man.” Yeah
and some are saying “Yeah I saw what he did after the Allar break playing against a bum teams resting teams tanking teams over a smaller sample size of games.” Mhm
i’m not super enthused about throwing that dude $150 million rk and Eversley that’s the question
that is the question don’t want to bet against yourself is all I’m saying
i know we’re uh getting close to an ad break here but I did just want to say like I the reason I’m saying 20 to 25 million is because I think that’s a good deal for the Bulls the way that I laid it out in my article which really goes into more detail about this you can find that on our website allo.com is $20 million would be like a very team friendly deal $25 million would be a neutral value deal and $30 million would be a player friendly deal
there’s like player option team option that would factor into that guaranteed money incentives all this stuff um but for me like $30 million if he ends up getting that m much if it’s 5150 or 4120 is that going to be the end of the world for this Bulls team no no
it won’t they just won’t like that’s not so much money that you can’t build around it you see teams like the Orlando Magic give 5150 to Jaylen Suggs he’s their third and now fourth highest paid player like you can build a team like that it is slightly above average starter level money i just don’t think the Bulls need to there’s no reason to and there’s no upside in that for me because the upside would be you get him at a low number and now he exceeds that by playing really well and you’ve got a really good value contract that’s what the Bulls should be doing they aren’t trading for draft picks they aren’t selling off parts to collect future assets like what they need is good value contracts and good players and it’s really hard to continue to bring in good players if you’ve got guys that are taking up too much of the salary cap so
that’s true
i’m not going to like lose my mind if they give him 30 i just I don’t think it’s necessary um beyond that I think like that’s where you’re getting into some pretty you know hairy situation yeah
but um yeah I think like 20 million awesome 25 million fine 30 million it is what it is but it’s not going to kill the bulls for the next 5 years uh all right how we doing Katie do we Yep break time all right let’s knock out some ads when we come back on the other side more of these thoughts about free agency plus we’ll talk about some Bulls trade stuff going on as well hit the like button for crying out loud today’s show brought to you by Sunnyside Cannabis Dispensary what is Sunnyside it is your home for judgment free cannabis shopping a place where all kinds of visitors are welcome to explore discover and purchase a wide array of high quality products they’ve got everything you need making them your one-stop shop featuring an expertly curated menu with over 100 different strains to choose from plus they offer easy online ordering and instore pickup get in get on get out with your day we know you’ll love some of their incredible brands like Cresco and Floric plus Good News and Mindy’s visit sunnyside.shop for bright buys every day including 50% off your first three online purchases when you use promo code HICG at checkout to qualify exclusions apply sunnyside cannabis dispensary bright buys every day only for 21 and older and Illinois medart holders and for existing customers use promo code CHO50 co50 for 50% off one Cresco Labs brand item

it would it would

oh man that is a question
uh but speaking of trades # cashconsiderations um the Bulls made a big one on Saturday we did the emergency pod shout out to everybody who joined us on Saturday to break that one down but I figured while we’re still waiting as we tick down here uh for the window to open we could kind of just like revisit that a little bit cuz look I will admit my initial reaction was I was cranky pants on Saturday i didn’t love the trade and I still don’t love the trade and it was a combination of like just a snowball effect of being very displeased and unimpressed with what mostly the Bulls have been doing for the last several years was it the yelling that did it you just screamed into the void
still fighting the backpack and like they interrupted my Saturday
got you fair point
jerks
all right fair point
i figured it would be good to at least for a couple of moments to sort of like revisit it
sure
the trade itself lonzo for Aoro straight up
this is how AK does um two years 22.8 million remaining for Aoro on his contract former fifth pick overall in 2020 one spot behind our good friend Pete Will but has saw has seen his role with the Cavs just sort of like gradually diminish
over the years uh thank you Katie for those quick hitter stats and facts on Aoro i so like again I may have been overreactionary and mad about the Bulls front office about a lot of other things when I was reacting to the Aoro Fonzo trade on Saturday
but after a couple days for a cooler head to prevail I’m still not loving it cuz like Aoro like a giddy is an example of AK seemingly going out and targeting a specific player as opposed to
you know refurbishing his draft cardboard sure cuz he wants that player
but that player is a player who is young theoretically improving growing into hopefully the prime of their career
mhm
who saw their role steadily decrease as the team he was playing for got better
it was the same with Gideon OKC it’s it’s the same with Aoro in Cleveland
good point including playoff minutes
it’s a good point
why am I Why why is anyone jumping for joy on this deal because it’s like as the team is getting better they figure out that this player is less involved in them getting better
well first of all I’ll say I like the fact that this happened because this kind of sets the world back in the right order which is Matt Peek and C Red Fred on opposite side of things
there we go he’s always been a big Aoro guy hasn’t he huge i was like colossal Isa and he has been going clean in about Isaac Aoro and this just this is how the world should be that does make me feel a little better yes
knowing that Fred and I now disagree cuz you guys are on the same page for a while and I’m like “Yeah that’s cool but that’s like Superman and Lex Luthther teaming up and I don’t Nobody wants to see that.”
Unsettling
yeah a little bit little bit so yeah they’re back to those ways which is awesome to watch uh see Red Fred soon on the show
uh but I like Isaac Aoro don’t hate Isaac Aoro as a player i think you’re dead on Matt with what you’re what you’re saying about him as far as yeah you do all this but when it’s money time you have to go have a seat on the bench because we got to put somebody better out there for you um so now I wonder if it changes his mentality cuz he’s in a position now where he gets a chance to have the minutes and to prove that the Cleveland Cavaliers were making a mistake they won 65 games but who know he has a chance to prove it um he proved people wrong on his three-point shooting uh he proved people wrong as far as the longevity of his career because I definitely talked to people who thought he would be out the league uh for sure but he proved those guys wrong as well so now it’s time to continue to have that prove them wrong mentality um that Josh Giddy kind of has that I just talked about in the last segment so young guy uh making 11 million plus and some change this year make 11 million and some change uh next year two years to show that he’s legit i like him as a three-point shooter i definitely see how it fits with a guy like Josh Giddy especially in transition when you’re running the break immediately he’s your best defender uh on the team he’ll be guarding you know whoever the best player is uh seeing him and I sumu do that would be really cool uh also having a help defender and moduselis protecting the rim in some sort of capacity will be really cool as well so he’s just a tough guy a hard-nosed you know real strong tough guy but as Matt said there’s a reason that he couldn’t get on the floor when it was really time you know to have those players you know shine in in those moments so they were like we don’t need your defense at this point in time we need these buckets and he’s not a guy that’s able to go get that as of right now he could improve on on that but I don’t hate it i don’t hate Isaac Coro he doesn’t bother me i think is a solid player and I think he’ll be solid for the Bulls i do
yeah i think there’s probably like four ways to think about this um one of them is just like the player in terms of like the production that you’re getting and I think you pretty much nailed it like I think he’s a good player i think he’s going to be helpful i think that there’s like I I’ve seen some conversation about like oh he’s still has like more upside i I think he’s like going to be a solid role player like fourth or fifth starter um he’s been in the league for five years he’s never averaged more than 10 points a game so I don’t think like he has all-star untapped upside um that’s just not really typically how it works in terms of player development but I do think he can be a really productive nice young player and certainly give you more availability than what Lonzo could so I think that’s that’s one piece the second piece is the asset cost um Lonzo and this bleeds into another one which is the context like when you have the idea of Lonzo could have been had for a first round pick at the trade deadline that informs how you view Lonzo as an asset and so the asset cost is you are paying the equivalent of a first round pick which you could have had at the deadline for Isaac Aoro and I think that is probably not quite fair like to me you’ve heard people talk about uh Aoro the Cavs needing to attach picks to get off of Aoro because he’s not really in their main rotation they brought in Max Streus over him Sam Merrill Dean Wade like all those guys were the bench wings ahead of him and obviously that doesn’t even account for the starters deandre Hunter is another name so I don’t think that like he was a positive value contract and when you could have gotten a positive value for Lonzo I wonder like what the trade-off there is and so like you think about it this way would Auroro get you a first round pick on the market right now i don’t think the answer is yes so I I think it was um not like a huge negative in that way but I do think that was a negative asset play obviously the context I talked about um in terms of like what you could have had for Lonzo but also the Cavs were in this situation where they had to get off a lot of space they were going to lose Tai Jerome probably for nothing because they’re a second apron team they couldn’t afford to keep him and they’ve got like this 11 million contract of a guy who’s not playing on their team this trade is doing them a favor you’re giving them a backup point guard replacement for Derome who you’re going to lose because you can’t pay him and getting Aoro’s 11 million off your books um so I think that hurts and then also the Bulls adding an additional year obviously Lonzo with the team option into next season hurting their cap space so from those different angles it just like doesn’t make a lot of sense to me obviously the player impact I do think makes some sense i again don’t think he’s going to be a star but I do think he’s going to be a valuable member of the team he’s young he fits the timeline he can defend the Bulls don’t have anybody to do that um and I think he can succeed in the fast-paced uptempo transition offense that the Bulls are trying to run so I’m not mad at Aoro himself i just think again the process behind it uh was slightly flawed and and I think also like it’s just like I’m not going to see a bull’s transaction where they don’t get assets when they could have and not call that out like that’s they’re not playing the game
speaking speaking of um I think it was Diego in the comments earlier shout out to him saying you know I think AK’s done it’s just going to be a chat GBT negotiation with Giddy um speaking of like the way AK’s been operating with these trades K do you have the uh trades related stat from our pal Tom Habro that you could throw up there right now because this in case you all haven’t seen this some of you may have this is maybe the thing that blew my mind the most as I was trying to digest this trade the Bulls have a thing for clean one for one trades with no picks involved there have been over a hundred trades the past two NBA seasons as far as Stro can tell only four of those over 100 trades involve one NBA vet being traded straight up for another NBA vet the Bulls are responsible for two of those four trades being Caruso for Giddy straight up and now Lonzo for Aoro straight up that is abnormal four of over a hundred yeah
and you’re two of the four where you say “No that’s it thanks.”
Yeah why that is that should be a giant alarm bell to all Bulls fans saying “Why the hell does our front office operate this way?”
And shout out to actually having five of the eight players on on the Chicago Bull cuz EJ Liddell is is in there as well so that’s a part of it too yeah when I saw that uh a few days ago I was like damn like like just damn that’s all I kept saying man like that’s crazy and not cool it’s not cool not cool
not cool man not a good thing in a straight up player for player and then look at the players that outside of the Bulls that were being traded straight up for you know straight up it’s Kevin Porter Jr it’s EJ Liddell you know it’s those guys and we’re talking about sending you know now world champ twotime world champion Alex Caruso uh over there
younger veterans who the teams who drafted them decided we don’t want yeah and AK’s out here being like we want young players with experience give me that one give me that one
yeah so when I see people and I saw people saying you guys are being negative and being so negative on this stuff like that and it has nothing to do with that bro we telling the truth like we just being honest about it like sure Matt gets a little little fire hot under the collar when he’s saying it but when he says something that isn’t true I’ll be the first to let you know you know what I’m saying like but he’s telling the truth in this realm and in this fashion man so it’s not good what this front office has been doing it shouldn’t be acceptable what this front office has been doing you It shouldn’t be acceptable for you to say “Yeah I get it they suck but can we move on?” No bro we got to stick with the part that they suck for a little bit and say these things has nothing to do with the players you feel how you feel about those but it starts at the top guys it starts at the top and it is flawed up there god we got to knock out a couple other ads we will do that right now when we come back on the other side could the Lonzo trade have just been the first of a few trades kobe IO resigning Trey Jones we’ll talk about all that next as free agency opens today’s show brought to you by Ray Chevrolet in Fox Lake who are kicking off their summer with big savings all month long

what a be alive
ghost be alive
oh my goodness okay well we will keep our fingers on that pulse and react to any mega news as it comes down pulls or otherwise but in the meantime we can uh jump back into this conversation on the heels of talking about the whole Lonzo trade we can move on from that for now um there’s whispers that the Bulls are shopping another guard um Casey Johnson of CHSN had a little tidbit after Lonzo trade Kate if you want to throw that up so he had initially talked about the new wrinkle being a Trey Jones comeback is not out of the picture but a realistic possibility and then quote tweeted that by saying the Bulls remain active in the trade market for what it’s worth i’ve heard more chat chat chatter on IO
shout out C shadow
than on Kobe
mhm interesting um of course with Trey Jones we could talk about him a little bit later as we talk about free agent targets might be hard cuz the Bulls might have competition for Trey Jones mhm
but the whole Kobe and IO thing let’s talk about that
okay
Dave
yes sir initial reaction to there’s more chatter out there about IO being chopped than Kobe
both have one year remaining on their deals
right right
in line for a big pay raise on whichever next deal and whichever team and currently IO offseason uh recovery from the shoulder surgery but we’re hearing that it’s going well
and Kobe coming off of a big uh impressively statistical finish to his his season
so I don’t think I’m surprised by it i don’t want it because I want Iodum on the team but I’m not surprised by it because Matt I think it goes back to the 15 and five iodum wasn’t out there
i sumo was not out he was injured and so and if I’m this is out the front office and how they’re looking at this is me speculating
how they’re looking at it like dude look at what we did you know without him look at the run that we went on look at Kobe being Eastern Conference player of the month look at him being Eastern Conference player of the week twice during that month uh look at what Josh Giddy did uh look at Kevin Herder you know look at all those guys in that back court kind of you know did their thing look at Trey Jones right before he got injured so I think they’re looking at that aspect of it and saying “I think we’ll still be okay.” I don’t think they’re as sure about doing it without a guy like Kobe White because that is your scorer like that is your one-on-one guy who can get his own bucket and the Bulls don’t have those guys on the team and every NBA team needs one of those guys at least um so to have that I think they still kind of want to kick that can down the road a little bit with Kobe White see if they can work something out maybe and if not then training him mid-season but hearing it for IO isn’t as surprising uh for me and it’s strictly because uh of the 16 shoulder separations that he had that the team didn’t know about and then he was injured and just out for the entire year and they still kind of elevated uh without him uh I don’t like it i didn’t like it how he got hurt i didn’t like anything about it um cuz I like I Dumo being on this team man he’s a huge part of it in my opinion as far as those young guys who they look up to as far as taking that leadership role as far as what he does in the community as well but looking at it purely from that basketball perspective I think that’s how they kind of view it whereas his value is probably a little lesser than Kobe’s on the team
yeah i think it’s really like anytime you’re making these like emotional decisions about which guy we like more I think you’re going to run into trouble
like you should be thinking about this in terms of value who can you get more value for that’s pretty much the bottom line to me i know the Bulls are trying to be competitive um and trying to continue to win and that’s fine but that’s part of the reason why I wasn’t crazy about the Aoro trade because you can do both of those things at once like Lonzo wasn’t with you mentioned a great point that I wasn’t there when the Bulls went on their stretch run
lonzo wasn’t either so they’re basically adding a guy that wasn’t there into the mix that’s great but like they could have turned him into a draft pick that could have helped them and their future a little bit more so I think the same thing is true with IO um I I don’t I’m not like convinced IO’s going to get moved i’m definitely not thinking Kobe’s going to get moved either um I think that if they do want to bring back Trey Jones who also by the way was not available for the stretch run uh then he is a little bit duplicative with IO i think people think about IO as being a young player he is nine days younger than Trey Jones so they’re really the same age kobe is in that same category as well um and I think they really valued and appreciated how Jones played once he got there he was able to push the tempo i think he can really help uh some of the play finishers on the team like Modis and Noah Essen
sure
like get easy baskets and that’s going to help their development so I get that um but I think I was really good too like he’s a he’s a good defensive player i think last year wasn’t his best season um but he took on more of an offensive role when he was healthy he was pushing the tempo he was the one with the ball in his hands even ahead of Giddy he was running point guard so um I wouldn’t be giving up on him right now i think his value is probably at a lower point just because of the injury um and the way that he played last year relative to previous seasons but I do think that like you probably don’t need him and Trey Jones off the bench that’s like a little much so I think it was good that they moved Lonzo but Auroro is very much a 2-3 to me not a 34 and so you’re still pretty loaded in that back court of off guards and so again to me it’s all about value who can get you the most back in return and that’s how I’d be thinking about it more than anything else
okay makes sense um somebody uh Jebadia in the comments just said “Io’s got no trade value and IO fits with Giddy better because he’s a better defender we could really use a point of attack defender.” They just trade Lonzo so they disagree with you uh who’s going to do that
yeah we got a Cororo now but so like I I disagree with your first point that I has no trade value i mean maybe you’re always a little skeptical of a player coming off offseason surgery or in Io’s case he had his shoulder surgery while the season was still going on
25
that means he’s ahead rehab wise as opposed to if it’s at the beginning of the offseason and he had his first absence of about I think it was like 8 to 10 games in late December early January that was the shoulder that was giving him problems but then he came back remember and he had like a dozen or so games where he was putting up numbers yeah
like filling his box score so with the trade deadline at whatever it was February 8th Iowa was back and playing playing big minutes and looking pretty dash darn good and we heard at least a few different reports that the Bulls were yes getting calls on Kobe maybe a call sole individual call from the Warriors on Vu but they were also getting calls on IO
so I think with one year on his deal remaining not a super amount of trade value because whatever team trades for him knows that they got to pay him to keep him yeah a year from now but it doesn’t mean that he’s got no trade value he’s a useful two-way player in the league
oh without a doubt and even though it’s that last year like it’s it’s not like you’re paying they’re going to have to pay him $30 million you know what I’m saying going into the year after that so you can take a flyer on that i think if you feel like he is somebody you can have in your core which I think IO fits on any team in the NBA as far as uh what you what they’re looking for what they want to do of course I think he fits better on a team that’s ready to win because having a piece like Hio in there oh my god like he could be that guy like it reminds me of when uh Milwaukee got Bobby Portoris like like just that kind of fit it was a perfect fit
new contract way to go Bobby congratulations sir way to stay home where they got love for you um so but that’s what it kind of reminds me of like one of those kind of moves obviously the Alice Caruso move uh reminds me of as well but I fits anywhere anywhere you want to put him he is going to fit on that team and impact that team and do something on that squad that you desperately need whether it’s going to be a guy who can score whether it’s going to be a guy who can defend whether it’s a guy that can set up your offense whether it’s a locker room guy uh that you need Iodumu can be that player for your team so this is why I don’t want to give him up so so easily um because I know what he means to to this team and to this city and I don’t want to give him up so easily like that and I know Julia like you said it in the comments that like dude she was like I don’t even know if I want to be a Bulls fan if they trade IO Dumu
julia is also asking speaking of all the guards how the hell is Jiovon Carter still here shot player picked up that option baby player
aka player option
who wants candy who wants candy but that’s how he’s still here man but yeah IO having that one year I think is a little different for me than I don’t know like a Kobe having that one year because he’s going to get that big check you know what I’m saying big
Exactly the extension rules you’re able to bring IO back a little bit more easily because I I believe the number is somewhere between 81 and 89 million okay not exactly sure what the average salary would be that will determine it but um basically $20 million a year for IO is probably about right in the new salary cap world maybe a little bit high but either way you’re gonna be able to extend him at any point during the season you can take this you can do it now you can extend him kobe’s not going to take that number he’s gonna want more and so the Bulls are going to have to wait for him to become an unrestricted free agent at which point they’re going to have to bid against other teams yeah that presumably like are going to be interested and maybe even give him a better shot at winning depending on what teams those are so um if the Bulls get I guess like the Bulls should offer IO or I’m sorry offer Kobe the extension i don’t expect him to take it if not they need to do some uh like communicating with Kobe’s agent and figure out is Kobe willing to sign here longterm if we give him a deal that’s more to his liking because if not then it would be silly not to move you because we’re going to lose you for nothing
so to me IO it’s a little bit easier you have more control over that situation um and I understand like trying to break up this like blog jam at guard one way or another
trading a guy who’s averaging 30 a night for the last two months of the year is I think a little bit harder to do um especially like you look at the the market for other scoring guards out there is just not very good with the exception of Desmond Bane who obviously got a hull
cj McCullum Jordan P got swapped for one another um like these guys Jordan Clarkson just had a buyout nobody wanted him like these kind of scoring guards are just not super valuable on the trade market and so they should either move him for what whatever they can get or figure out a deal and like verbally agree to that so that they can sign it going to next season because to me the the greater loss for nothing would certainly be Kobe yeah yeah agree uh shout out to Just Joe in the comments who said “How long do they have to leave it you reckon so teams don’t get fined for the tampering?” They definitely did i
was thinking like the tampering is not going to
Also shout out to Josh Hart as in like Nick’s Iron Man workhorse Josh Hart who tweeted a few minutes ago it’s 601 and IC1 deal what happened to the game i love
That’s right man we wanted it we want it now you made us wait for this
if you give a mouse a cookie so okay as we sit here and wait for the first big Shams bomb or Crusane’s bomb or whatever else whoever else is participating what do you think is is the leading factor is it teams being afraid of that those tampering penalties which uh the Bulls got one for the Lonzo sign and trade less we forget or is it more teams just being like
god damn these aprons we can’t do anything we got no money
i think it’s a little of both i mean I think you factor all that kind of stuff in when you’re making these decisions i mean hell like there were teams I was reading about win their team’s not interested in in getting LeBron James you know what I’m saying and stuff like that
lebron whisper offered is uh No we’ll pass
yeah we’re good
wild you know what I mean but that lets you know where we’re at you know what I mean and you won’t hear that about the greatest player ever but that’s crazy you know what I’m saying it just kind of blew my mind hearing that just let you know where team what teams are thinking you know as far as financially and things like that if you’re telling me LeBron like you won’t move heaven and earth to get this guy on your squad man I ain’t moving nothing to get you know anybody else going man so hey we’ll see we’ll be here though we’ll be here we got to knock out our last ad break of the show but don’t worry we’re going to be here through 6:00 uh we figure we stay live for the first hour of free agency we’ll react to anything that happens if not if nothing happens we got plenty to talk about
we’re going to talk about Kaminga next

subscribe too subscribe
make sure you also subscribe getting closer to that 85,000 number for CO Sports YouTube channel subscribers appreciate each and every one of you and goat as we were just going to break you said got a little bomb
got a little bomb from Sean you want you want to bomb the bomb goat jiren Jackson Jr and the Memphis Grizzlies agree to a 5year $240 million maximum renegotiation and extension so um lot of money for Jiren quarter of a billion dollars that’s quite There was maybe a day a half a day after the Desmond Bane trade where there were some whispers like “Hey maybe what about John Jiren Jackson Jr.” And you know what it wasn’t like some random misagreate like I’m pretty sure Brian Windhor said that on like Get Up or some ESPN show you just toss they might be open to shop in Jared Jackson Jr and Jaw 2 and the world flipped out and then of course our little subset of Bulls fans flipped out and be like could the Bulls get to Jared Jackson Jr cuz there’s your solution potentially to the post VCH era in Chicago
oh yeah it’s done
well scratch that plan off the list of potential plans good for Jiren Jackson Jr
yeah what’s that about 48 mil a year 50 or something like that something like that but yeah I mean basically this
this was a little bit of a complicated thing for them because
they had to clear out some cap space in order to renegotiate the final year of Jiren’s deal to get him up to a number that he would feel comfortable with and then give him a max extension off of that so basically they used the cap space that they’re going to have to I guess I’m what I’m saying is that they’re going to have to clear out some space in order to make this possible whether that’s another trade or waving uh somebody that they have on their roster maybe it’s Cole Anthony who got uh traded back to them in the Desmond Bane deal this opens the door for them to give Jiren more money this year and then extend off of that so it’s a little bit uh unique and complicated and also something that the Bulls could consider doing with Kobe if they wanted to uh operate as a capsbased team this year pretty complicated probably not worth talking about but that is um what happened here as another deal for the Grizzlies comes through
another Grizzlies deal on the point on the heel of your point about Jiren Jackson Jr and this is actually a name that was in your free agent targets write up earlier today.com goat free agent Santi Alama has agreed on a three-year 52.5 million deal to return to the Memphis Grizzlies so um scratch that one off goat’s list
i like I like Aldama i think that dude gave them good minutes yeah agreed
and uh there’s a there’s another pipe dream name not even a pipe dream just just a kind of dream
well he signed for more than the Bulls were going to be able to give him anyway three years 52.5 million um that’s like 17.5 per year so uh basically the Bulls if they’re going to make a deal it’s going to end up being for the mid-level exception which is 14.1 million this year or less they can use that in multiple deals they can split it into parts um they also have the bannual exception which I believe is 5.1 okay
so they can do some stuff but the problem is they have
13 roster spots full with Giddy and Trey Jones out there so I don’t anticipate any big moves i I expect it to be Gideon Jones um
but theoretically somebody like Analdama who I think is a really good third big who can stretch it out dribble pass shoot um but probably not someone who you want as like your full-time five uh I think that’s a good good deal for him
okay shout out uh all right well so while we wait for our next uh big piece of free agent news to be dropped by Shams or whoever else
let’s move on and talk about
a a free agent adjacent
situation uh that the Warriors are still trying to figure out and that is what to do with Jonathan Kaminga um he is not necessarily a quote unquote free agent target potentially for the Bulls
but a sign and trade target
yes
and every all signs point to the Warriors looking for a new home for Kaminga kaminga wants out kaminga wants a payday sign and trade seems to be the most likely solution for all parties involved and there’s been not just whispers not just rumors hearsay but some legitimate reporting over the last couple of weeks that the Bulls could be an interested party in a Kaminga acquisition via sign and trade now is that still the case after drafting Essenay after getting Isaac Aoro don’t know but the Kaminga card has yet to be dealt with in the deck
yeah it’s still out there and I I feel like the whispers have gotten louder over the past few days the bulls even louder now oh man the turnup so yeah wait you’re back sir please
yeah no it didn’t feel great i’m going to not do that again
oh man um but yeah man like it it feels like they’re getting getting louder man and fresh those fresh whispers are out there for sure shout out shout out Jake Fischer um so just hearing this though man and this stuff like it just shows you how serious the Bulls kind of are about Jonathan Kaminga and making that move for him i’m sure VU is like “Yes please.” You know please let this happen so I can go to Golden State and and compete for some winning and some playoff and some deep playoff runs that would be great um but I’m so every time I think of him I just I I try to see the fit in my head and go you can probably break it down easier for me to digest and understand but I’m trying to see the fit of a Jonathan Kaminga uh within this offense cuz watching him at Golden State it just felt like I need the ball and I got to to be the best that I can be on the floor i’ve got to have the ball and do my thing not to say he can’t be good without it obviously he can he could be skilled without it with his defense with his length the way he runs all those things he can do that but it feels like to get the best out of him you’re going to have to give him the basketball and let him kind of do his thing now am I am I looking at this incorrectly or is it something else I’m I’m not seeing
no I think that’s exactly what he wants he wants to be the man he wants to be an all-star um he wants to have the ball in his hands he wants to take a bunch of mid-range shots
and that’s just not We We saw that movie yeah they don’t they don’t want to do that again
so I question the fit although I will say this like
the talent is undeniable i mean he is an athlete he’s 6’8 um really good finisher around the rim like super explosive
i don’t think it would be a bad idea in the sense that the Bulls need to have
a talent infusion they need to go out and get guys who could be really good one day and I think it’s a long shot but Kaminga could be really good one day this is not like
you know a situation where he’s never done anything he’s scored at a high level at various points in his career um he’s also been out of the rotation i mean we saw him not be in the Warriors playoff rotation last year until stuff went out and they just needed scoring but uh 16 points per game two years ago 15 last year like he can really fill it up and I think that would be somebody that the Bulls could in theory look at the problem is it’s just not an easy deal to make this isn’t just like you give them vouch and they send Kuminga and you call it a day like there are some complicated rules in the collective bargaining agreement that make this pretty difficult
yeah you mentioned in your right of the baseear compensation rule and how it would maybe make more sense financially just moving parts that Kobe is the one being sent to Golden State and not Vu can you explain that a bit more
yeah well first of all there’s been also a lot of smoke about the Warriors and Al Horford so I I don’t think Vu is really going to be on their radar this is a guy who
is making $21.5 million next year um they’re probably going to get Horford for like the mid-level exception or less so you can get uh better production for half the price i think that would be preferable to them and that’s again why the idea of like laying the groundwork for a vouch trade always seemed kind of crazy to me because like
I was told the groundwork had been laid goat
the option was just not there anymore and so with that in mind I do think that if a Kuminga trade to the Bulls happens it probably is for Kobe and that’s another reason why I don’t feel great about it because I think Kobe is better than Kuminga
you don’t because financially you’re saying right so let’s talk about base year compensation
okay
baseier compensation is an annoying rule that basically means that if you are trying to sign and trade one of your players on a rookie extension you can’t just sign him to a big number send him out and use that as like a means to take back a bunch of salary basically if Kuminga signs for $25 million a year that counts as $25 million a year for the Bulls but it only counts for $12.5 million a year going back to the Warriors so it’s really difficult to do these um counterbalance deals where the Warriors send out 25 million the Bulls would have to take back that much money but they would only be able to the Warriors would only be able to take back 12 that’s why Kobe makes sense because he’s making 12 1/2 would work theoretically in um the base year compensation what’s allowed in base year compensation um I don’t know about the value i’m curious to hear what you guys think about that the Warriors also have a trade exception where they could send some salary back like maybe it would be IO to me that’s like way too much so maybe it’s you get off of Javon Carter and you can send him back there open up a roster spot clear out some space um and maybe the Warriors could find some use for Javon as like a a depth uh guard who can defend and shoot some basically Steph Curry light
yeah that’s Yeah
well they do they just they need depth and so
he’s better than Spencer
he could potentially up them there but like what do you guys think about that Kobe let’s say it’s just like Kobe for Kuminga you signed Kuminga for four years 100 million like I’m not doing I don’t want to do that i
don’t know if I want to do that
i I don’t love it i I could make my peace with it more so than recent trades
okay but
why why this one more so
just because I truly dislike trace at the same way
no I’m asking why could you make your piece with this one
well because of the things that goat said positively about Kaminga and and you said positively about Kaminga but um
and also just about like when it comes to Kobe and his trade value if you did want to go that route I don’t know if you’re getting like multiple first for Kobe you might get one
knowing AK he’s going to go out and get some guy who was
drafted and has had an underwhelming career so far
well yeah well yes he’s shown
why we’re talking about Jonathan Kam
i mean he’s shown that it’s not about the draft picks for him
it is not
it is not about the picks right
what’s a draft pick
it it obviously doesn’t know but it’s about the players so you saying that sounds like a deal they would absolutely make cuz they’re like “Oh I can see this i can touch this this is tangible four years $100 million what’s it you know not a big huge chunk uh for you for a guy that has that kind of skill and talent and something that you feel can fit in with your offense and can get you a bucket like I said what Kobe can do when you need a bucket you have to give him the basketball and do his thing i just don’t know how it it fits man just as far as their how the offense because Kobe can exist within the Bulls offense like that

dory and Finny Smith to the Rockets
oh my god the Rockets are cleaning up this summer
four years 53 million that’s
The Rockets are not playing
they are really not playing that’s That’s less than the mid-level exception which is great value it’s probably a little longer than you’d want to go for a guy like Dorian Finny Smith who off the top of my head is in his 30s but maybe I could be wrong about that he’s been around a while
32 cuz you’re paying him into his age 36 season but like
you get Kevin Durant in there you’re starting to accelerate things a little bit and I think this team is like legit top two in the West right now right
it’s true
i mean they were top two this year and they didn’t have Kevin so um I think they’re going to be really good their roster is kind of falling into place yeah
uh you’ve got Adams Dorian Finny Smith Reed Shepard Tari E off the bench you’ve got obviously Fred Van Vleet um Amen Thompson Jabari Smith who you just signed Durant and Operan Shenun in the starting lineup that is a really strong team they can play big they can play small they can play zone they can play fast they can defend they can now add some shooting in there so they are going to be a really dangerous team out west
they can play tough as well too man bunch of goons on that squad right there i like the fact they got rid of Dylan Brooks I must say
I like it
I like it it’s time to get serious i feel like does anyone like Dylan Brooks
no does Dylan Brooks like Dylan Brooks
i’m saying well the the paycheck like Dylan Brooks you know but I like it’s nothing wrong with him on the score it’s just like I feel it’s a graduation when you get rid of a guy like that and you move on from a guy cuz he’ll get you to that level of where you need to be mentally to go up in the playoffs like you need that I hate everybody else that I’m playing against mentality right
but man like at some point in time he h starts harming your team it’s kind of like Draymond but you know half of the talent
you know so it starts harming your team after a while and him going to another place just like no Houston is dead serious like Thompson is going to get better like think about the young guys on this squad man look at what they did last year and these guys just some of them were in their rookie seasons in their second and third years they’re going to get better and now you adding all this talent to it that man they’re going to be a problem a true problem them versus OKC is going to be much watched mustwatch television on the NBA
i see Ruby 23 in the comments saying Houston looking nice um Hugo Matez saying Whitmore to the Bulls um meanwhile under mini bomb free agent uh center/forward Paul Reed aka Bball Paul has agreed on two years 11 million to return to the Pistons uh so there is that uh but so the the whole Whitmore thing I know that that’s a name that you’ve been throwing around over the last week or so goat i mean where where where do you stand on that
i think he would have been a good target with Lonzo
like to me there there’s more upside there than in Aoro and he may like bust he he might not be as good as Aoro but like the risk uh reward proposition for me was more interesting there just because he has a lot more upside as a scorer in my opinion um has not been able to crack the rotation uh in Houston and you can see why they’re just incredibly talented on the wing in particular but he’s a guy that I think they could probably get something for whether it’s like a couple of seconds or a protected first um but I think they’re kind of trying to keep their powder as dry as possible to be able to go out and make the Giannis swing if need be and so uh maybe they turn him into another asset that that won’t hurt that package that they can ultimately send out but to me that’s kind of where I would imagine that they’re looking uh but if you can get Kim Whitmore like those are the kind of under the radar second draft upside swing guys
and the reason I like him I think more than Aoro is because Aoro is more of a known commodity to me he has a track record he’s been in the league 5 years he’s been consistent in terms of his output production strengths and weaknesses whitmore is very much like a mystery box and there’s like the family guy like it could even be a boat but like he could he I think he just has more upside he’s younger um and he had much more scoring pedigree coming out of college so to me that would have been a good play but I also think he could still be available for the right price i don’t know what that would be um or what the Bulls would have to give up but that’s definitely a name that I mean uh Kelly Eco from the Athletic reported that he’s on the market they should be looking uh Jebidiah says Whitmore is a locker room cancer a ball hog and no defense so suck it goat all righty uh meanwhile we got another Grizzlies deal getting done sean just a moment ago Grizzlies and guard Cam Spencer have agreed on two-year 4 and a.5 million fully guaranteed contract sources tell ESPN “Hey Mark Bartlestein finaliz.” Hey good old good old Mark Bartlestein out there were a few years there where the Bulls were represented by 85% Mark Bartlestein clients
that’s pretty accurate pretty accurate i do remember that
i don’t know what it was that Gar Foreman and Mark Bartlestein were just bffs
yeah they they enjoy
your Agent Barlstein welcome to the Chicago Bulls what’ you say
they’re the Priority Sports offices are in Chicago so they had a
There it is just roll out of bed and ride over yeah you’re right there hey who you who you representing
yeah we’ll take them all right great you know what I mean
uh okay so those are the latest deals so we go back to Did we finish our Kaminga conversation i can’t remember we’re Yeah okay katie Kat is done with the Kamingo
i’m sick of hearing about Jonathan Kamingo we’ve done like three shows on him and that’s nothing against us doing shows on him it’s just I’m so sick of hearing about him
either we’re doing it or we’re not i’m over it also he I don’t think he fits with this team like he’s going to take away minutes from your young guys and I’m over it we’re done
yeah they just got Aoro and Essen you still have Modis you still have Patrick like unless other moves
to clear out some roster spots
come to fruition like and just not for Kobe if you can figure it out for B or maybe there’s a third team you can loop in
u but then you’re paying another team to take on salary so I just think it’s probably pretty complicated but like a lineup with Giddy Kuminga Aoro is like the shooting the spacing is just not going to be conducive to basketball in 2025 is there a lineup that can work with a guy like Jonathan Kamingo like any line like that you can put together in your head that can work
i mean yeah if you have a lot of shooters around him and you want to just let him cook like but the Bulls don’t have that right now so that’s that’s part of the problem that is true
like even Trey Jones who shot the ball well is a low volume shooter that’s part of the calculus with Aoro too he shot 37% last year which is great giddy shot 37% last year which was great but they’re not taking enough volume to really put pressure on teams to where
was in what like two per game teams are leaving them open they’re just they’re clogging
they’re never contested and so that’s that’s part of the calculus too of it’s not just how well did they shoot it it’s how is the defense guarding you and what does that mean for how wide open the paint is or not i I do agree with you that the Kaminga iron trade makes a little less sense now than it did say before the draft and before the Lonzo for Aoro deal but I mean as recently as earlier this afternoon Anthony Slater of the Athletic had a fresh report saying it’s the Heat and the Bulls as the two likeliest uh suitors
to uh to make this deal for Kaminga when you hear that though when you hear Heat and Bulls as a Bulls fan what do you think oh well then it’s going to be Heat right
yeah that’s kind of how I think like I I he fits
heat want a player he get that player yeah they didn’t get Kevin Durant
heat want a player he gonna get the player he fits like he fits perfect like when I see Kaminga I think of Miami Heat player like he’s that he’s in that mold they don’t mind a guy you know coming in thinking he’s the guy as long as you are the guy
they don’t mind you doing it at all
he’s a bit more scoring punch
think of a bit more everything
the fact that they mopped the floor with the Bulls in the playing tournament again again
yeah but again
that team’s half court offense is trash
cuz again play in tournament so they’re not super great you know what I mean it’s just they were better than the first
how dare you Dave
yeah just just telling you
the participants mean you are on the upswing
just just telling you the participants like how it happened but I think Kaminga like fits the heat better like I think of guys like Dion Waiters like your guy like I think of things like that that’s your guy like
is is that my guy
that’s his guy i think of those kind of players you know what I mean for a Miami Heat kind of roster and for me it fits they like those kind of guys who are like give me the ball as long as the ball goes in as long as we are hitting these shots
they will develop whatever around that player that they need to because they have a brilliant coach um and they also you know bring up guys you know and guys get better within their system uh so I can see him fitting in in that one with him and Tyler Herro just you know like going your shot my shot your shot my shot yeah with a bam out of bio there man with a Khalil Wear there as well uh with a Yoic who I um am really high on and have been since the draft um so yeah man i got I think he fits there and like you said if if he want a player he going to get the player
uh quick interjection um get those likes out katie now asking for 300 she got the 250 she was asking for for now she’s asking for 300 but considering we have about 800 of y’all watching live in that chat I don’t think 300 is that too much to ask
not hard
get the likes up shout out to you all for getting us past 85K
yes
and thanks so much for hanging out with us during this kind of uh
I don’t know underwhelming underwhelming
we got another little clarification tweet from Shams about JJ and it’s exactly what you were talking about go renegotiating grizz and Cole Anony’s reps are working toward a resolution that allow the Grizzlies to create necessary cap space and renegotiate and extend JJJ while giving the Anthony the opportunity to find his next destination so there’s that little update uh okay so as far as some other Katie
yeah I was just going to throw out a name that I said during the draft but DeAndre Aton’s been bought out am I the only one i know you guys weren’t I’m just I don’t hate I don’t hate DeAndre i’m fascinated by his potential fit on this team that needs a center like come on
deandre Aton and I have said this a million times about him has one of the softest touches around the rim I have ever seen in a center
and I mean that any center like ever that I have seen softest touch man like it I’m like how hasn’t that been developed and and turned into 30 points a game for him like one of the softest smoothest touches I have ever seen um yeah man like I I don’t hate getting a DeAndre Aton you know you’re giving up something defensively but you already did that when you had Vu and it you know it could still work that way you have yourself a presence inside for sure because he’s going to score like it’s going to get you double digit points and rebounds you know what I’m saying no matter what that’s kind of what comes with DeAndre Aiden and you know what you’re getting the question is always about the mental I think with a guy like him will that mental be okay here in Chicago man because being here could break a human being it couldn’t work in Phoenix and and they were in the damn uh finals and he was having issues there so could that work here in Chicago where the finals is kind of a little bit further down the road for this kind of team and he comes from Portland who was also a little bit further down the road and it didn’t seem to work out there either so that’s kind of what I look at is more mentally then I have questions more so about his game before go you uh I I want your take on the whole Aiden idea but Dave just to uh stat beef up your point about Aiden’s touch
around the rim Aiden’s field goal percentage at the rim his NBA career by a year starting with his rookie year 73 72 77 79 80 76 82
it’s ignorant
that’s ignorant
okay you’re talking about a sevenfooter you just put the ball in the basket but there are plenty who are not that efficient at the rim who are his size
correct man just the softest touch bro like just needs to be developed more he he could be a real star still has potential to be a real star in this league
yeah it came out uh last night that he was going to be bought out which is pretty surprising i mean this is a former first overall pick this is somebody who’s on a max contract right now
um and somebody who like presumably could have been traded but uh there just wasn’t a market for him at that number and so uh it came out today that he gave back $10 million so he took 25 million to not show up
right
um and it sounds like he’s gonna want to make that up if not more with the full mid-level exception which again is 14.1 so that’s for the Bulls carry on
i think that’s what he would be looking for um which is I think fine value for him like I agree he is a very talented player um
he is like the touch is really what stands out to me too he’s like a true sevenfooter who like just the mid-range game the touch around the rim and he’s not just like dunking everything either it’s like actual hook shots and tipins and things like that so um yeah I I think Aton’s fine i don’t think he’s like
the greatest passer i don’t think he’s the greatest shooter he’s kind of more of a mid-range than a full space it out to three kind of guy um I don’t think he’s like a super snappy decision maker with the ball and I think that’s something that the Bulls would ideally want in their center but again we’re talking about a team that really needs talent a 26 27year-old who was the former first overall pick who has been to the NBA finals before played at a high level has defended at a high level at times in his career although I think there is something to be said for the fact that he just like hasn’t really seemed I I hesitate to say this but like he just hasn’t seemed like he’s been a super competitive guy and that’s not the best thing to say being so far removed from the situation but that’s the rap on him and so I don’t know if they would feel comfortable adding that in or spending to do so but yeah I mean if you are trying to find a potential center of the future I think you could do a lot worse and I you know I just I guess I wonder what do you do with Collins and Jaylen Smith and Vuch then because now you got five guys
yeah shout out to the Burgers but five you mean they can go like goodbye like like once you get DeAndre Aton like peace out by now like yeah everybody can go and then you’re like well now you’re figuring out who’s the backup who fits there i mean cuz you can keep Jaylen Smith still there he’s still on the contract you know with the squad so he can still be the backup for your team but no Zach Collins peace out like you got to go V got to go
yeah I somebody in the comments was just talking about how like I like our rotation center right now like Collins Vouch Jaylen backing him up Brandon Evans bless your heart i’m glad there’s It’s good to have some optimists around but I I don’t know if V Collins Jaylen Smith is the center rotation I’m going to be enthused about moving forward as a Bulls fan no offense to any of those individuals fine players and I’m sure
I think he’s going to the Lakers
yeah it does feel that way right
aiden yeah
yeah it does seem like a move that would make plenty of sense a big cut to not go to the Lakers
well it’s also just like that’s how I look at it
talent just like appears as if from nowhere and
yeah the Lakers are going to be the ones that capitalize on it
but again I would be still concerned about him mentally going up there
yeah especially with like Luca too who you have questions about
yes correct man so yeah all kinds of questions
uh all right well so as we await any other further do we got we got a bomb
um which is a surprising one not like a bomb but like uh another one of the guys that I
another name on your list
exactly
um on my tweet deck but what what was the deal
free agent forward Jake Lavia has agreed to two years 12 million for the Los Angeles Lakers
wow lorravia oh wow okay
yeah I like Lavravia 68 he can shoot it um he can make some plays with the ball in his hands and
that was another name on your list
yeah those I think actually all of them now i was going to say K do you want to put the GOAT list of potential free agent targets up there and check our status cuz they might all have already been taken off the board
okay so Sharp got a new deal already yes
yes that was one of the resigned with his own team so that one happened this morning
right deandre Aiden we’re all just positing his likely destination is the Lakers but still nothing official out there lorravia going to the Lakers kaminga still to to be determined um and then of course there Trey Jones who we are had talked about earlier as a name that the Bulls are interested in keeping around
yeah it was a little bit weird situation with Laravia because he was drafted by the Grizzlies they did not pick up his team option and so basically for some reason or another the rules say that you’re not allowed to give him more than the taxpayer mid-le exception which this year is 5.2 million so when they traded him to the Kings the most the Kings could give him was that 5.2 million number but he signs for just six uh six a year it looks like uh 2 years 12 million with the Lakers so seems like they could have either given him a little bit more but obviously they’re reacting now to losing Dorian Finny Smith yeah
um but just not much more than what the Kings could have gotten him so they just kind of lost him for nothing
and just real quick he was drafted by Minnesota he was drafted by Minnesota but traded on draft night to Memphis
and who what that pick was the 22nd and 29th pick walker Kesler
texas Ranger
20 and0 uh all right so there is another name off the board jake Laavia uh also among your other young options list go you had Santi Alama so he uh struck a new deal uh with with Memphis moments ago
tht another name on that listen we we just saw him
saw
photobomb a Casey Johnson video hit um the other day after the draft hanging out with Patrick Williams hey Marqu is in the house
oh Marqu what up buddy
shout out sir shout out
how are you hope you’re enjoying your life not thinking about the Bulls every waking moment presencies a nightmare um yeah th
dark dark horse to stick around i mean look I I think they’re gonna bring back Trey
you’re forcing open another an extra roster spot on top of resigning Giddy and having Esenay here it’s It’s for Trey Jones it’s not for THT right
i think they’re bringing back Trey and I think they are bringing back Giddy and I think that will be it however they could like you said pay a guy to not be here they could wave Javon Carter and his $6.8 million
a very popular opinion in them streets these days they could do a consolidation trade and combine salaries um to take back one player two for one three for two
okay and create an open spot that way and like TH has been around he’s been working out with the guys he’s he was like a very well-liked player in the locker room last year and he actually really impressed me with his scoring so um I think they could do worse with like a vetman 15th man type um Billy trusted him at times to generate some offense when they needed it i think there are probably other options I would prefer but I like THD
the Bulls needs I mean Bulls have a bunch of just great locker room guys yes you know what I’m saying on this team like that can kind of fit in anywhere and that’s why I think they need some stank you know and some funk you know and some goon you know what I’m saying that locker room on your team man like put some stank on it like
like they need that stuff man like you have to have that uh to kind of change your culture you know what I’m saying and let everybody know like yeah we get along and stuff but it’s time to win you know like you have to be abrasive sometime and the Bulls have a bunch of you know nice guys like guys are nice guys are cool i hang out with all of them bro but I I need to see some goons start start popping out on on on certain guys man and certain players uh on this team i don’t know who you know what I mean is is can step up into that role on that team on the team right now or I don’t know what player they would get i mean Kaminga could definitely be that kind of guy uh for the Bulls team but they they need that bro they I’ve been saying that for two years they they really truly need a goon on this squad and Alice Kuso he can be but he on this roster he couldn’t be because they really depended on him they truly truly needed him so he could not tap into all his goon qualities like he did in OKC but yeah they they need that guy though man they need that fire
ah shout out to an old familiar friend Ant-Man melo asking if we’re pumped about the Aoro signing well the Bulls didn’t sign him they acquired him via trade he’s got two years left on his deal already i I don’t think they’re going to add more years to that uh go back and rewind to the uh beginning of the show when the show wraps up because we revisited our thoughts on the Lonzo Aoro trade at the top um also did a whole episode on it on Saturday emergency pod style when the news broke
uh parenthesis quick answer no
um
and great to see you so
shout out to Dreads always hanging out in the chat who said here’s Mr negative Mark K yay mark Kay’s immediate response dreads ah yes the Chicago Bulls a very positive franchise who only have positive things to say about them yeah guys where’s
He just walked in the door
where’s the sunshine and rainbows
he just walked we’re talking about the Chicago Bulls ar a truly great franchise spanning the last quarter century
yeah it’s been tough
uh it’s been a little difficult
uh any other names another name I noticed you threw in there ago was Quinton Grimes and Bulls fans may remember that name popped up a lot in Zack Lavine trade rumors before the Zack Lavine trade that actually happened like a year before the Zack Lavine trade happened
there was Quinton Grimes talks those never materialized with the Knicks
yelling about it
uh but I was
any any thoughts on Grimes being a realistic possibility goat
i mean I think he’s going to end up getting uh more than what the Bulls can offer
yeah he wants money
um he wants money he played really well down the stretch but like three and D combo two three um who can kind of create some offense and who really came into his own with Philadelphia he’s who bounced around a lot he was with the Knicks um then he was with the Pistons then he got traded to Dallas and he’s been like salary dumped at times so um he
has this is like his shot to make some money and so I expect he will try to do that um and again there’s only one team out there with cap space so if it’s going to be a big deal it’s going to be either going back to the 76ers or the Brooklyn Nets and we have not gotten any indication that the Nets are interested in using their cap space this year it sounds like they want to kick that down the road uh continue to be really bad next year because they have another opportunity to get a franchise player in the draft um and be willing to take on bad contracts or picks
mhm that’s how it’s got to happen and the Bulls are not a team that likes to do that
no dreads like not even negative in a funny way like PC when referring to Marqu personally I have always found Marqu’s dry wit hilarious you just need to uh add some more funny bones to your brain
he’s expand your horizon
that’s right god I I love dark humor marques is flawless okay speaking of dark humor thanks for hanging out with us everybody on this issue of Bulls free agency frenzy show um still no Bulls news we talked at the opening at the very opening like are we going to see a Josh Giddy deal done today or not
uh or at least agreement of a deal you know those deals um because a lot of guys returning to their teams they played for last season got deals done that went public over the last few days
so far nothing
um it might be not tonight mhm
it might be not you know tomorrow or the day after i think that goat is right at some point we are going to hear about Giddy and the Bulls coming to terms on some kind of deal it will just be a matter of what the ultimate figures are that the sides come to terms on
mhm
i mean people are talking is it going to be four years five with an option is it going to be somewhere in the 100 to 125 130 range if you guys had to put a like a just a rough percentage likelihood on them actually going the qualifying offer route like one year prove a deal like is it still very slim pickings that that’s going to happen
this is Christmas morning for Dave
i just like the more I think about it like it could make some sense it could make a lot of sense in that case this Bulls fan would be happy about the Bulls going that route
it makes all the sense in the world if they can’t come to an agreement obviously there’s mutual interest josh Giddy I’m telling does not want to go anywhere else you get your name here in Chicago you get your name around the world like I said he hits this halfcourt shot he was everywhere as Chicago Bulls point guard Josh Giddy trust me that sounds a whole lot better and carries a whole lot more weight and he knows that and the team is being built around you they’re drafting players to keep you so you want to be here they want you here you might not come to your agreement on the money because they still might say “Well we saw the 15 and five but I don’t know man cuz we also saw you having to get benched early on in the season cuz you weren’t you know you couldn’t even get on the floor defensively so is has those things changed how much have you grown yes you look good in these practice videos but so did Patrick Williams these things happen so it can definitely change and he can al also counter by saying “Look guys I know I’ve gotten better you can look at the results right there i told you what I wanted to get better at and I went out and got better at that and I’m going to do the same thing in this off season.” Then you hit them back with two words prove it that’s it you prove it and then out comes that one-year fat chunk of money that you can give him right there because even in that case that gives him leverage going into next season because more more teams will be available to sign a guy like Josh Giddy so he can truly play the game at that point in time and if I’m a Bulls executive I will be fine with him playing the game because I’m okay with him taking this risk this year man cuz I just don’t know i just need to see it go on for 82 games this season man so I think it is a smart move to go ahead and just sign that to a one-year deal and I can promise y’all this if it happens oh you’re going to want to tune in to this show right here your boy your boy is going to have a good day that’s going to be a fun fun day for me but I think it makes sense man like it’s something that they should really be considering
i think it probably I I guess there’s a couple different schools of thought on this one is like the anti-giddy guys who just want him gone no matter what if that’s the case then
I’m not on that team yeah
yeah this is probably the best way for that to happen because uh he becomes unrestricted next year if he takes the qualifying off
yo
um the other school of thought is just give him whatever he wants keep him around i don’t really fall into that one either so for me like use the threat of the qualifying offer to get him on the deal that you want and again this is not like giving him you know like lowballing him and disgruntling him and making him not want to come back this is the best opportunity for him to be the point guard of the Chicago Bulls where he’s going to have the ball in his hands where he gets to play that’s not going to be the case on most teams however next year
more teams are going to have cap space uh and so that puts the Bulls in a disadvant disadvantageous situation where they could lose him for nothing um and so I think you basically say like we are comfortable letting you play on the qualifying offer because we’re not sure how to value you yet so unless you’re willing to take a deal that makes us comfortable then we should do this and then come back next year and if you play like an all-star and do the 2010 and 10 thing that you did for the entire season we’ll be happy to give you as much money as we can correct but if not then we’re just not willing to make that commitment yet because we just don’t know what we have and so I do think it it behooves Josh Giddy to say “Okay my options are $11 million and taking a huge risk or $100 million and I can sign here and be the guy for the next four or five years.”
So that’s how you get him on a deal that feels more comfortable to you and it seems like I don’t want to make any grand proclamations yet but it seems like the Bulls are at least negotiating that right now and not just giving him whatever he wanted before the bell of free agency even
started another name goat that uh I noticed in your write up of just potential names to keep an eye on uh Bubba Baba Bubba Baba in the comments said “Uh what about taking a flyer on either Caleb Houston or Jabari Parker two young players who have improved shooting.” I then asked him in the chat “Did you mean Jabari Walker not Jabari Parker?” Because y’all just you triggered me with some PTSD right there uh and Bubba Baba did say yes that’s who I meant jabari Walker is a name that I saw you throw in there go
a little sad that it wasn’t Jabari Walker i wanted to see this ring
ah what’s up doing these days i don’t
overseas doing his thing baby
good friend
win championships over there shout out to him look at him
go home and take a cold shower
look at him
oh god um I can confirm he’s playing in Serbia i just Googled it
there you go oh man we can get in touch with Dro we can have him on this is fun jabari Jabari it mystery guest day it was Jabari Park here
uh thankfully I was not here on mystery guest day
oh the backy saved him uh Jabari Walker goat useful useful piece to keep an eye on
yeah 69 forward this is going to be his age 23 season he was a second round pick by the Blazers uh son of Samaki Walker former NBA player um but yeah 69 wing who shot 39% on threes last year he’s a really good rebounder has been up and down as a shooter but like
young player who can defend multiple positions kind of more of a of four at this point but still uh pretty versatile and kind of a three and D player so if you can get him cheaply as your 14th 15th roster spot
guys we got some big news here oh big news sham’s bomb free agent guard Trey Jones has agreed on a three-year $24 million deal to return to the Chicago Bulls sources tell ESPN Bradberry of Lyft Sports Management finalized the new deal with Bulls officials tonight
so there it is bulls nation it is official trey Jones is coming back
wow wow wow wow that does not bode well for Iodumu in my opinion
does not
that does not bode well there oh man okay
somebody’s got to go somebody’s got to go bro that’s you just It’s not enough room at the end somebody’s going to have to go wow
so 3 years 24 that’s average annual value salary at 8 million
shout out
I think for the player that Trey Jones was looking like
Mhm
in that short side
he looks solid man that is a player worth $8 million a year
without a doubt like he looks like he affected the game he affected winning on his team like on the offense and the defensive side like I watched him on the floor diving for those loose balls making those steals i watched him make key assist in that fourth quarter i watched him hit some huge buckets in in the third quarter when the Bulls couldn’t score like Trey Jones was just having a really great uh I should say half of a season you know what I’m saying with the Chicago Bulls after he got traded along with Zack Collins and along with Red Velvet but yeah he he seemed to fit in nicely with what the Bulls like to do cuz this is a guard friendly kind of offense yeah so and he’s a perfect backup kind of guard so yeah I appreciate him saying “Hey I’m comfortable here it’s all right.” I thought he was going to be gone free a cuz I thought he was going to really get paid and get some money like for real but obviously he likes it here he wants to continue to stay here i mean welcome to you sir now does that come with the always prevalent
player sean’s initial tweet report had no mention of a player option we’ll see if there’s a follow-up tweet
we’ll see we’ll see if it’s there but
I’m curious to know what the structure of the deal is obviously uh as D’Angelo Russell here just with the Mavericks
saw that coming we saw that one coming
um you know I’m just I’m curious to know like what other market there was out there obviously Russell to the Mavs had been rumored that was one of the point guard needy teams um I don’t I just don’t think there was like a lot of money out there for him so I think this is good value i wonder what like I said the structure will be in terms of where does it start and how does it um ascend or descend in terms of value but this cuts into the cap space plan for next year uh not by much but like every little bit counts you get an extra $2 million in there uh from Aoro maybe even 12 if you consider the fact that you could have waved Lonzo or uh wiped him off the books so yeah this just has an impact on the bigger picture but I agree like Trey was really good for the Bulls uh shot shot it better than he ever had um but it’s just like a mistakefree player like he’s going to come in and help some of the younger players get better he was really good in the Bulls defensive zone um and talked a lot about how he was really able to make an impact on that end despite being like 661 um so I I really like Trey Jones he was great in the locker room he was great to talk to uh and I think he just immediately felt comfortable in the Bull system
mhm
and we know like the Bulls really liked him so uh does not surprise me as I said before I expected this to happen um that is the number around where I expected i was I was thinking maybe like something closer to the taxpayer mid-level which is uh just about 6 million would have been better but 8 million for a third or fourth guard is not bad at all and I just kind of wonder what it means for the rest of the roster obviously Giddy is still out there but now you have 14 roster spots full
yeah man and and again my mind just goes straight to Iumu man that’s exactly where I go like Trey Jones you see him fitting in like Yes backup point guard he’s a guy you bring off you know to to back up a guy like Josh Giddy and matter of fact a guy you can play with Josh Giddy because we saw that uh last season they can definitely play together and he could definitely play the one while Giddy plays the offguard and just kind of floats like that way but it just makes me wonder about IO so much bro like they have so many guards and they’re going to have to clear some room and some space so if this young man is going to be a part of the Bull’s future with a three-year deal like man somebody is not going to be here like I ain’t going to be here like for your Magic Johnson reference out here so but yeah again like I I echo everything you just said about him goat like and even like you said we talked about earlier how they have just all kinds of good guys off the floor and you said he was such a great interview and a nice guy off the floor willing to help the younger guys and things like that even when he was injured you know still being involved with the team in that way so they definitely see something in him they see something in his future and they see something in his potential because he hasn’t really reached his full potential yet as an NBA player but we’re going to get a chance to see if he does it here in Chicago
the the thing is like I think part of the reason why Trey versus IO is a conversation is because Trey was a much better shooter for the Bulls but on his career he’s not like he is a 31% three-point shooter for his career and IO obviously has been up and down um but he’s also shot over 40% during uh two seasons ago and is a 36% career three-point shooter on better volume so um I do kind of wonder if this is going to end up being the right decision if it turns into that maybe it doesn’t um but just thinking about like the Bull’s depth chart right now it’s obviously we’re assuming Giddy is back he’s the starting point guard you you figure Trey backs him up you’ve got Kobe and Io at the two mhm
you’ve got um Aoro at the three with one of Essenay or Julian or Dalen behind him you’ve got Modis Patrick at the four and you’ve got Vu Collins and Jaylen Smith at the five um do they is this a good guard rotation like is is that a solid four guard rotation do they even need to get rid of anyone well people in the comments uh if they teach us anything every day is that Bulls fans feel very differently because there’s a lot of people stoked about this and a lot of people being like “Yo I’s way better.”
Denver Nuggets are treating
go ahead
michael Porter Jr
and a 2032 first for Cam Johnson to the Nets
whoa so
no more MPJ in Denver
okay
uh that’s that’s a big old trade wow
meanwhile
so this saves them a ton of money
shout out to the [ __ ] ton uh the Nuggets and that means that the Nets are taking on a bunch of money taking on a bunch of money
which reduces the
even further cementing that they have no money for Josh Giddy
exactly in case maybe they kind of thought they wanted him
there’s only one game in town baby it’s all I’m saying it’s only one game in town bulls play the game yeah it’s all I’m saying
bino in the comments just said my guy said Shams bomb and followed it up with Trey Jones yeah welcome to being the Chicago Bulls those are the kind of shams bombs we get
shout out to welcome we are Bull’s Nation this is the kind of news we get and react to
the more you know so yeah there that is uh crazy deal um that trade is wild
yeah could could maybe be like “Hey MBJ you want to be a bigger kind of like
star level player?” Oh yeah he’s going to get plenty opportunity
yeah and uh honestly I I love that trade for Denver not just the money element for Cam Cam Johnson
oh my god
another bucketter out there
dude about to average 20 assists
like seriously bro
okay we’re heating up now trey uh who was it i just lost it
ty Jeremy
ty Jerome
ty
ty Jeremy
ty
for the Grizzlies for three years 28 million
ty Romy Ro uh it was it was wild widely speculated that the Cavs were going to lose him
and they made the Lonzo move cuz they thought that they were going to lose Ty
correct
uh that’s that’s your guy Dave
that’s my guy main man todd Jerome baby
also a client of Marty Martine not the Barlstein not the Marty Mark not the Marty Mart
mark Painkill is kicking in that’s
I haven’t even taken any today what hey it’s just got free agency slappy sillies
okay but that means you’re getting better then a little better say you’re not taking any painkillers yes
well no they switched me from painkillers to something else like a week ago
okay all right
so it’s not painkillers it’s nerve altering medication
oh okay that’s fun yeah less less fun than painkillers twitch right here Dave
yeah you should have seen me at the PT’s office earlier today all kinds of muscle twitching going on um
oh
onward and upward uh yeah so a couple of uh big deals there obviously to the Kings
Dennis Ruder to the Kings rutder to the Kongs
they say the Kongs have been trying to get Russell Westbrook to come there i don’t know why but they’ve been trying to uh coax him into coming there and I guess this is saying that he will not be coming there we got to get somebody so Dennis Shruder all going out there so shout out to him continuing to his NBA career so so go you were just saying a a moment ago roster at 14 with this Trey Jones news that means with Giddy and Essen still not officially being signed right that’s what you were saying
no assuming SN signs that’s 14 so you have
assuming SNG signs that would put them at from 13 to 14
right
and so now Giddy would be it bh Collins Williams her Trey Jones is five kobe Aoro Jaylen Smith IO Javon Carter is 10 modis Dalen Essenay Julian Phillips is 14 so your last roster spot is going to Josh
Josh Giddy
uh obviously trades could happen and open up some flexibility in space
um we’ll see what happens but
we’ll see the the theoretical me to trade one of IO Dumu or Kobu White now that you’ve resigned Trey Jones and done so very purposely is not necessarily about the 50man roster correct
it’s about a guard rotation correct that’s it that’s all I’m thinking about is the rotation not the amount of players man and the time that each one can get on the floor so maybe it it’s a case where I mean IO kind of fits in everywhere so you don’t have to play him at the one you don’t have to play him at the two you can cheat with him at the three so maybe it’s that kind of situation with is kind of a two three so I I don’t think they need to get rid of someone like Javon is obviously the one guy who’s like probably not going to play
but um but yeah I think they’re in like okay shape in terms of depth sharp for me it’s more like how do you add talent to this group now you’ve got 14 guys like where’s the ner
where’s the progression where’s the upside where’s the like player development going to if you’ve got Kevin Herder playing 30 minutes a night and you know like You’re fighting for minutes you can’t go small cuz you’ve got three centers like where Aoro is now getting a ton of minutes at the three where is the development coming for no SN where is the development coming for Modis is he Is he going to lose minutes in this um my dead
come on
come on
does Patrick Williams just not play then like what happens yes
it’s easy to say that but like I just don’t know
come on down
billy will see it that way and we know Billy’s priority is winning and not giving the young guys minutes so
um yeah to me it’s more about like
how does how does the rotation uh shake out and where is the upside coming from on this roster and and at what like how long is it going to take to see the fruits of that
conor in the comments just asked “Anyone want one year of Velvet for$18 million?”
Huh anyone
huh
anyone
anyone
no we need him cuz nobody on this team can shoot right this is true this is true he is he is vital to the Bulls
oh he is vital to the Bulls and what they are trying to do absolutely man so and he’s another guy that can play either at the two or the three uh for this roster so I don’t know i’m just thinking about lineups you know what I mean and kind of how things can kind of fit like a Trey Jones a bench lineup of Trey Jones of IO uh Kevin Herder you know what I’m saying or Julian Phillips or Dan Terry you know where they at you know what I I I think that the acquisition of Aoro and the drafting of Essen is like a vote of no confidence in Dalen and Julian like I just don’t see where those at minimum where do they where do they get minutes interesting
okay
well I they get minutes ahead of Asen I think out of the gate yeah well because value of you know rookies and
I think more so than modest I think some some nights at Hoffman estates is very possible for Noah As
I do
no that’s fair he’s raw as hell that’s fair
if Mis could go there m went down and played a few times he sure did
which I wanted to punch people about
oh man I was so upset
but but yeah no to your point about Don and Julian goat i think you know that’s so many in the comments just said like we we got you know Pat and Kevin Herder out here taking minutes from some of these other young guys cuz Billy wants to win 39 games and that’s that’s why we say like and this is not this is not what the Bulls are doing obviously but like this is why we say tanking is an organizational decision it’s not something that a coach is going to sit Kevin Herder and Zack Collins because he doesn’t like those guys it’s like you have to This is what the Jazz are doing they’re trading away
Colin Ston and buying out Jordan Clarkson to take that decision out of Will Hardy’s hands so that they can be bad on purpose next year again that’s not what the Bulls are doing but if you want to get Noah Assay minutes you have to open that up for Billy to not have a choice but to play him yeah and I think even Jay Jayen and Julian will probably uh especially early on in the season have priority but at a certain point like this guy needs to play and I agree it’s going to take some time he’s probably going to end up in Windy City um like he does have to play though like you don’t draft the guy 12th not to include him in the rotation whatsoever correct um and I think like in retrospect Modis was pretty seamless like it took some time but like he eventually came into the rotation played well and that was that like I expect him to still probably be the starter next year um maybe come off the bench but like still play a lot of minutes i just don’t know where as fits into all this especially when like Billy wants to play three guards at a time you got Trey you’ve got Giddy you’ve got Kobe out there now where do where do your wings come in like now you’re squeezing Dalen and Julian and Essen get even more yeah
um does Herurder now have to like play some four and you just go with four guards out there
so I I think there’s a lot of questions where like this is where the nine to 10 good players thing turns into 14 or 15 guys that you’re trying to find time for
yeah and obviously we know it’s a long season you know what I’m saying god forbid but injuries do kind of happen uh to certain players and things like that so we’ll see how it works out but yeah just looking at it on paper I think you’re you’re definitely hitting it on the head go like it is very very difficult to get that kind of time for those guys on the floor and yeah I think this is going to make summer league a little more essential too as well uh as we talk about some of these young guys whether their opportunities will still be there Orlando the comments as Julian and Daylor are team options is it possible they decline their team options referring to two guys still in their rookie deals um this is the day and time where uh spot rack just crashes cuz every NBA junkie is on it right now but I believe and maybe if you can confirm goat they have both already been team options exercised for both Julian and Alen
um I haven’t heard anything about that for this season i would imagine that that decision was made last year so I Yeah like that’s already a thing like for the 2526 season yes
oh wow the Nuggets are bringing back Bruce Brown bruce Brown back in the building
denver Nuggets champion i love that move for them
so they So
neither team was this thing
so in this trade I’m just pulling this up from Keith Smith the financial impact of the Brooklyn Nuggets trade Nets with 16.6 million in cap space remaining that means they took on a ton of extra money to do this trade and basically takes them out of a big offer sheet for Giddy so now there’s no one out there the Bulls and this is another reason to wait right this is another reason not to act before you need to because now there is nowhere else for Giddy to go that can really put you
two tumble weeds made a great
defense defense
the Nuggets are now 13.6 million under the first apron which puts them in range to use most of the non-ax MLE
and it doesn’t say how much Bruce Brown is signing for usually when that’s the case when it says uh as it does here Bruce Brown has agreed to a one-year deal usually that’s for the minimum so this puts them in position to not only bring back a rotation player improve in my opinion on the wing with Cam Johnson but also sign another guy uh and puts them in a position to really make a a run at it actually
so Cam Johnson they get Bruce Brown back calling it now
okay
Nugs champions once again
whoa
2026 let’s go okay
let’s go Nugs man the somebody is going to be the Nuggets the Thunder and the Rockets one of those two teams is going to be playing
two of those teams are going to play each other in the second round right
probably yeah
yeah in all likelihood so
in all likelihood
I mean those are three
i love I love these moves for Denver
yeah this this just makes it more
I really like this move for Denver and it’s a risky play because you’re giving up your 2032 pick
sure you’re getting dude Joker’s going to be racing horses in 2032 you got Joker now
make moves to win now to win now yes
now before Joker decides he’s tired of playing basketball
when you have that kind of the best basketball player on the planet
i think I go home now
uh let’s shout out some super chats uh Samuel Martin Bulls better than Chicago Bulls appreciate you Sam i’m not going to disagree with you john Hoban Hoban saying uh with a super chat yay for Trey Jones he’s excited meanwhile Kimberly with a $20 super chat thanks Kimberly say “I need hats thrown.” Now you know what Kimberly you want it you got it you’re one of our best pals i don’t know what’s that in regard to is in regard to the fact that Trey Jones signed and you didn’t like it we haven’t made any other side
to be fair do you need a reason man
well Kimberly’s a big IO fan so I think she might be a little
She might be a little bit concerned we’re here for you
the inconceivable notion of IO getting traded is is you know what have another one for that kimberly I feel you double be sad if IO go i’ll I’ll be sad if I go i’ll be very IO yeah man for real
great player great person
i’ll be sad man couple more random signings coming through uh Kevin Porter Jr back to the Bucks 2 years 11 million
okay
kevon Looney to the New Orleans Pelicans two years 16 million so
16 216 so weird move for them they just drafted Dair Queen
um they have Eves Missy um but then also like what do the Warriors turn to as their depth five
wait and they and didn’t they get Mark Williams in that trade on draft night
the Pells
no they the Suns did
okay okay
um so yeah maybe this opens the door back up for V the Warriors however I believe they’re going after Al Horford
damn you poor Vuch Luna be not named AK just uh got gave out a player option real quick Sean’s clarification on uh D’Angelo Russell going to Dallas second year player option
all right guys the player option was released and it wasn’t AK related that’s a small victories
it’s growth rejoice
that one makes sense to me though because it’s like the Mavs have Kyrie Irving who’s not going to play this year so you’re giving D’Angelo Russell runway to get as many stats as he can play as well as he can with unlimited minutes and then if he wants if he wants to he can leave and go sign another deal elsewhere because he’s not going to be the starting point guard there next year uh but if he does want to stay and be the backup then they’ve got him at a great number so I actually think that one makes sense
okay uh John Cruz in the in the comments asking “Can Matt say the Bulls are playing the Giddy contract correctly?” Uh I I can say from what we can collectively surmise as Bulls fans so far so good and that I haven’t seen a Josh Giddy Shamsbomb involving a four or even fiveyear or player option five-year deal in the neighborhood of 130 to $150 million which I will not be a fan of
that we we could get that news later tonight
so can I say it’ll be right
the Bulls are handling Giddy correctly no cuz we haven’t figured out what happened with the Bulls negotiating with Giddy yet this is true
when we find out what happened then I’ll give you my answer how about that
but I do think that there’s something to be said for the process right now and we’ve criticized the Bull’s process at very many uh different stops along the way of this four-year show that we’ve been running here
yeah but like I I think what they’re doing right now is the right way to handle it they didn’t rush into it now they’re in a very advantageous situation where no team can give him
the money that he wants so
let all those other limited money dominoes call
piss him off and say like $5 million or nothing like no you just like you play the field
and you’ll like it
you you play the cards that you’re dealt uh and you make decisions based on what’s available to you yeah and I think Giddy now has to do the same thing realizing hey if I want to get paid $100 million is a lot of money and I can guarantee that for myself which puts a Bulls in a great spot in terms of a contract but also gives him generational wealth like that’s what it’s all about here for these players that have you know a very short window of time to make as much money as they possibly can giddy should be trying to go for as much as he can but the reality is right now there’s just not a lot out there for him so I think it’s either going to be the qualifying offer or he’s going to have to lower his asking price and whether that’s down from 30 to 25 or 25 to 20 or whatever it may be like I I just I don’t see how he comes away with
the high-end number of what he wants right now because the market just isn’t dictating that for him
sorry
and that’s too bad like for him it really is too bad
bulls play defense apply the pressure it’s all I’m saying i don’t mind Giddy coming back hi but I’m saying apply the pressure and play the game correctly like you’ve said criticize the process a million times just recently criticized it as far as the Alonzo Ball and Isaac Kakuro trade definitely have done that i would love to give you some praise with how you are handling or will handle this Josh Giddy contract i would love to sit right in this seat with a fresh new hat on and some dope ass shoes and tell you guys yes you did the right thing in this instance and what you did as far as you approach this contract with Josh Giddy he’s got nowhere to go nowhere to go all right he’s got one place that he can go and get his money and it’s the place he wants to be at anyway and it’s the place you guys want him to be at just be fair about it don’t overdo it just be fair and I think the praise should also be you know reflective in the grand scheme of praises and criticisms like should be on par with the amount of good versus the amount of bad
okay
if if you’re saying you want to give them credit if they do end up handling this D negotiation correctly and successfully in your opinion as far as finding a fair figure numbers of years numbers of dollars I’m with that and even I will sit on this very program and give them credit if what they come to terms on with giddy is something that I think even as a non super giddy believer
is at least better than what I was fearing
mhm
let’s also just always I think be careful with how much credit we give people
well sure it’s not like I’m solving them of every other shout out to Dummer you drove a six of the way across the country in the wrong direction Lloyd but hey you saw that the slim gyms are on sale good job i’m not saying like they are first of all nothing has even happened yet they could give them $35 million a year and then it would make even less sense and we would look what it did to you
and we would talk about it but
I mean based on the process the way that they’re handling it right now and a lot could change based on what the actual number comes in like they are handling it right and you give them credit for that yeah
that’s all it is it’s not it’s not a statement about like it’s not for me like the Aoro thing was a statement about how they have continually handled the process correct that that’s this is not that this is they’re doing the right thing in this moment and that’s all we know so far
and that’s all we know and that’s all I’m going to go off of is what you have done within the moment and this trade cuz it’s honestly the biggest one their biggest signing that they’ve made since probably Z the Zack Lavine contract negotiation so yeah you just want to give them some credit for it to say hey you did good you did good
Bulls Bulls 195 nation in the comments said trust AK you should trust AK
oh No I I think I’d rather trust a great white in a small pool with blood in the water and then jumping on in to have a swim
they also said Pew Will MVP so I think that’s AK’s burner
oh is that AK’s Burner or Pee Will’s burner where’s Peewhe supporter
mvp wheel
where you been man
oh man
where have you been
mvp wheel it’s right there
oh good lord that’s got to be a troll
so um I don’t know if we’re trending towards uh tuning out for the day but
correct uh Yosi Goulan Golan um great salary cap guy on Twitter you guys should go check him out okay
um just tweeted “The Brooklyn Nets have $17 million in cap space after swapping Cameron Johnson for Michael Porter Jr can get up to 25 by waving all of their non-G guaranteed players.” Um so the most that they can give Giddy is a deal that I would feel comfortable giving to Giddy so that puts the Bulls in a great spot here where if they end up uh getting him a 25 or less I think that’s I think that’s fine
guys we got a a former Bulls legend getting himself a big deal okay
Tom’s bomb
free agent center Luke Cornette has agreed to four years 41 million with the Spurs
wow
what luke Cornette hey baby
hey bro shout out to Cornets Cornets man

i didn’t even want him to get one of his assistant
no he already got two i mean with uh the Rockets he was their their assistant coach he already got a coach he doesn’t need anymore same with me that man needs no more joy in his life after all the joy that he robbed from Bulls fans not even two seasons at the helm
i can’t argue this i can’t argue this at all man for real generally speaking I want humans to be happy
that man broke my brain
that one on set on the show he broke me on the show
you got money you don’t need happiness too bud and it starts today

right

i did i do too i think it was a smart move it
was overdue but good good move Adam Silver in the NBA yeah amidst uh some questionable ones recently in other regards but yes it is nice that we get to do this in the early evening hours now
yeah cuz then we get to do shows like this

  1. Bulls are nothing going sign nothing worth signing Jerry and Micheal only concerned about making money not spending it and plus don't no one wants to come here

  2. Giddy sucks and the bulls are again depending on a player that played 1 good season.. same garbage coach same garbage GM!

  3. So we are just being back the same ass bullshit team to just lose in the play-in next year again! Fuck this team and front office

  4. If the Suns can buyout Ayton, why can't the Bulls buyout Javon Carter and his measly 6 Mil per? He's a $6MIL cheerleader who deosn;t play but takes up a roster spot,

  5. Ayo is gonna wanna get PAID soon enough, locking up Tre on the cheap works for me. Careful not to overrate Ayo! Like Big Dave does with Ty Jerome (WTF?!?) Dude cannot play D worth a CRAP. And that's why CLE was done with him.
