React: San Antonio Spurs sign center Luke Kornet

everybody this is Jeff Garcia right here at Locked On Spurs against five Spurs rider here to react to the recent news that the San Antonio Spurs have finally got their answer at a backup big Boston’s free agent Luke Cornet he was on the short list uh for many Spurs fans as a viable option to back up women and there were a lot of reports out there before the reported uh signing via Shamsana ESPN that the Spurs have added Cornet so the Spurs took care of business that is said and done and we all kind of knew that the Spurs were going to address the big man department in free agency and here we go yes exactly what the Spurs needed to happen according to the report the uh Spurs have signed Cornet to a 4-year 41 million deal and the former NBA champion with Boston what I like about it right now he knows his role he going to do more than what he is uh capable of doing he was a solid b solid bench player for Boston last season and he brings a toughness a guy that can score around the rim and last season he averaged six points 5.3 rebounds 1.6 assist and almost shooting 67% from the field now that’s within the rim area last season he did not take any three-point shots he’s not really known for being a four spacer uh so we we’ll know the Spurs still need to address that but at least they have a big man that can play the five back up Wem take the load off him for the big dudes in the NBA like your Joel Embi Nicole Joic cornet is going to fill that role tremendously another reason why I like Cornette coming to San Antonio he’s good at setting screen and roles last year uh he was quite impressive in that department and he and Jason Tatum actually were in the top 10 in pick and roll combos uh for about 1.3 points per possession in 440 pick and roll situations that’s only second to uh Nicole Yokic and Murray out there in Denver so exactly what the Spurs need another big man they can play that combo with with Wimby off the court or on the court but they need to set up a different type of picking role and you got another big man to do that he’s durable played 73 games last season for Boston played a career-high 18.6 minutes per game and averaged more points and rebounds than any other season last year in Boston and I like about it the contract is nice it’s not too old again the contract here we got it right here was four four years 41 million that’s a little over 10 million per year again doesn’t break the bank hey we’re going to have a lot more reaction to this on tomorrow’s lockdown Spurs we’re going to be joined by R Dominguez as we take a deeper dive into the Spurs finally addressing the big man need in Luke Coronet this is Jeff Garcia make sure to stay right here at Lockd On Spurs qu rock on spurs room
