Breaking Knicks News: Knicks Signing Jordan Clarkson To Free Agent Deal!

all right I’m about to start up [Music] all right here we go salute to Nick Nation on this late Monday evening we told you if there was going to be any breaking news we would go live after the free agency show and it is because according to Ara Ian Begley Knicks insider for SNY Jordan Clarkson who was just bought out by the Utah Jazz intends to sign with the New York Knicks after he clears waiverss jordan Clarkson a former NBA 6 man of the year a bucket off of the bench spent the last few years with the Utah Jazz is coming to the East and coming to the New York Knicks man so let’s react to it cp the franchise JD Sports Talk on the ones and twos call us up with your takes on the Clarkson announcement and we’re going to recap some more NBA free agency news that has just come across the waiver wire plus an update on the Knicks head coaching search we could be coming to the finish line here so we got to talk about it and how all this is going to unfold here for the Orange and Blue over the next couple of months man lock in hit the like button hit the share button and subscribe to the channel the number one show for the fans by the fans we in hand part two let’s go was actually part three for me but part one for you man how you feeling bro yeah man you ready for part three
part three yeah i had to That’s why we started late man i had to stretch i had to get the AC on you know get my water and and re recoup man recoop
it’s been a It’s been an interesting day man it’s been a uh I don’t know it’s been a an interesting day because uh it’s
it’s um it’s it’s taking a little bit of getting used to with this new uh era of the CBA uh no longer the days where I mean I remember as soon as the season’s over it’s like you’re you’re counting down to to to today especially Nick fans even in the years we dreamed of unrealistic targets but free agency used to be like the NFL draft it’s like the event that you’re waiting for um even for fan bases that don’t that know they’re not going to get certain players it’s just just the news to of certain big names to sign um we don’t have that any anymore and so uh but it’s it still has been a very busy offseason because as Shams and many have anticipated a lot of trades this is the counter now to free agency is the trade market and man um at least the Knicks
did something on day one little bit after a little bit later but here we go
here here we go man so uh so Jordan Clarkson bro uh intends to sign the vet minimum contract as we talked about you know that’s what the Knicks are going to be working with here and and Jordan Clarkson intends to sign it with the New York Knicks once he uh completes the waiver process after being bought out by Utah Jazz i’m sure he’s happy as hell to be leaving there danny Ames grants him his freedom and he comes here to the New York Knicks uh let’s see going back into last year’s campaign with the Utah Jazz you had Jordan Clarkson averaging 16 points per game three assists three rebounds 40% shooting from the field the regular season 36% from three a 33% uh career three-point shooter but look you know my reaction to this is for the vet minimum you take it you’re basically upgrading from Cameron Payne here to Jordan Clarkson and he’s going to give you the same cardiac chest pains that Cameron Payne did but a better scorer a veteran and you take it bro they they needed shot creating firepower off of the bench and Jordan Clarkson is going to give that to you listen you got you know to get him CP don’t you think it’s a little bit interesting you see even a Gary Trent i know I know he’s younger
u even some of the
contracts we’ve seen I don’t know even what’s his veteran minimum is going to be do we do do we know that 11 years of service
who who Jordan Clarkson or or so his is going to be if we look at I’m just looking at the website you sent me yeah this is it right here so
3.6
so last year it was 3.6 six and that was based on a I believe it was a 10% increase from the Okay no no no this is this year based on the current 2526 cap estimates minimum 3.3 I guess
yeah so it’s 3.6
but for next year it’s going to be three around 3.6
be about 3.6 it’s going to be about 3.6 is that man number i mean listen I I think I think that’s a steal in terms of for the production like to get a player that’s averaging 17 like his last three years he’s at 20 20.8 21 17 to 16 points per game play get a player that can score the basket like the basketball like that off the bench for a veterans minimum i mean the Knicks still have the MLE correct yeah but the thing is is that the thing is is that they’re going to be hard capped at the second apron if they use it so this is the route that they’re going to use it’s highly unlikely that they’re going to use that MLE unless it’s for a player that’s worthwhile getting like look at what what um what the the sharpshooter just got from the Hawks one year 11 million
lukard 11 million
that was a guy we were hoping hey could he give us a deal for a vet minimum he got three times that so in other words the Knicks because I I know a lot of fans are excited because a lot of fans are saying “Oh we got them for the veterans minimum now we could still add players with the MLE however if we do we’ll be hard capped.” So they still use it
but they’ll be hardc apron so this is now an interesting uh moment for for for the franchise because you still have I mean they’re still being reported interested like even after the Clarkson news you you saw Michael Scott report that the Knicks are interested in Al Hawford along with many other teams uh let’s see what that does with Russell Westbrook does that mean that the interest now is is kind of goes dies down because you sign Jordan Clarkson’s like so this move is going to give us a lot of I guess we’ll see in the coming days what that means and what they decide to do because it could also tell you how they feel about the rest of the offseason if they feel that they still have a move uh in the future then I don’t know why you would use the ML probably just sit back and wait and and if that’s going to be the route to improve your team where you don’t have to be hard capped
then they can go that route so
I I I think to get a player like that and and and and the way it was reported like boom he cleared away he’s it’s to the Knicks that tells you this is already what they wanted
they knew that that they were going to get this type of player and listen I’ll say this i’ll cap it off with this um he’s a knucklehead he He reminds me a little bit of a J.R smith we’re going to get some J.R smith vi vibes back at the garden you’re going to have some highlights back at the garden you’re going to have some oo and a back at the garden you’re going to have some headscratching nights back at the garden but he has an element of shot creation that we don’t have off the bench even with a Tyler Kle even if you want to say you want Even with Deuce
Even with Deuce Deuce needs multiple screens and picks to create separation he’s got he got a little bit better this past season but he’s still still not at a point where you can take Brunson off off the floor and feel that you’re good with Deuce running not running the offense but at least shot creating in the offense deuce is still not there and I don’t know if he’ll ever get there jordan Clarson is there off the bench and what you hope if you’re a Nick fan and whoever the coach is is you’re able to hone that a little bit down you know he comes into a winning environment you know about the garden he seems like a player that would thrive in the Garden so I I understand the highlights that you see and the knucklehead highlights and all that stuff maybe some of that will die down just a touch and he’ll get back to that run where he had a four or five year run where he shot 41% from three 35% from three 37% 36 12 and almost 37% from three so although he is a 33% three-point shooter a lot of those down years came in Utah and do you attribute that to the fact that he went somewhere where Ace Bailey this year might have terrible numbers although he might have a high scoring output because once you’re in bad teams you have the green light sometimes the efficiency doesn’t come with that and so I think that is the optimistic uh perspective is he’s coming here he doesn’t have to he doesn’t have to win the six man of the year award here
like you don’t have to win that here you can be close to that but that’s not your expectations here we just need you to play 21 20 21 to 24 minutes and score the basketball and shot create that’s it
yeah that that that’s it man and and as we pull up you know you mentioned shot creation um we’ll pull up his cleaning the glass chart so to everybody in the chat once again hit the like button hit the share button subscribe to the channel cp and JD here we’re doing a little research here jordan Clarkson um when we pull up his his Whoops when we pull up his uh his shot creation chart here and you go to uh this is from cleaning the glass um assisted on from three you know 69% of his threes that’s in the 76 percentile assisted on from the mid-range 30% so he’s going to go get his own you know at the rim 24% now his rim efficiency is not as strong as you would like it to be but he is a guy that’s going to go out there and get his own shot as as we very well know uh the three-point shot was one of the best of his career three-point accuracy this this past season with the Utah Jazz let’s take a look at some of his uh his defensive and and rebounding numbers um the rebounding the defensive rebounding percentage and the offensive rebounding percentage kind of kind of average or or really yeah pretty much average for his position um the foul percentage how many defensive fouls did the player commit per team play pretty good actually pretty good so um not too bad there for for Jordan Clarkson i mean look he’s not going to be a defensive stalwart by any stretch he’s going to be in there to uh knock down some shots for you and that’s what you want he has been pretty efficient from the corner three last year 46% from the corners and not too much volume only 12 to 26 uh non-c corners he was uh 72 or 199 so he was 36% from the nine corners and that’s 37% and the the other thing too like cuz I know you know he’s 33 uh he just turned 33 though like literally just turned 33 uh this month so he’s a young 33 uh he he he won’t he won’t be 34 nowhere you know throughout the season until next year so with that said uh when a player is of this age uh and and an athletic player that he is you start to look at is there a decline is you know his shot creation is he declining in that facet of the game well I look at and this is why numbers sometimes you got to look deeper into numbers once a player starts to give you multiple years of service because he averages about 2.5 free throw attempts in his career that’s not a lot right but that’s because throughout his first like eight you know uh seven years that’s where he was at his last four seasons he’s had four free throw attempts 3.7 uh his last three seasons he’s at four 3.7 and four so it doesn’t look like a lot but getting four free throw attempts and it’s usually maybe one or two that doesn’t get called that tells me if this is his career highs and it’s he’s doing it a after 30 tells me he’s still attacking the basket and he’s still shot creating his shot creation is still getting him to get to the rim which when you look at the Knicks you have a wing like Mikuel Bridges that doesn’t get to the free throw line much that’s also going to be an important component for this team when you look at being able to get to the free throw line he’s a very good free throw shooter at 83% career free throw shooter so aside from him scoring the basketball in isolation he can also get to the rim and if he gets to the free throw line he’s going to make his free throws
yeah no no question about it man so everybody in the chat once again hit the like button hit the share button subscribe to the channel we got over 2,000 people in here late night on the Knicks Fan TV check-in if you guys want to call in with your takes on the Clarkson signing uh hit us up hit us up on the KFTV Discord and let us know how you guys are feeling the uh the address is right down there for the KFTV Discord man so you guys can check in and let us know what you guys are thinking if anybody’s from the Philippines I’m sure you guys are amped as your fellow countrymen is coming to the Big Apple and you you mentioned the optimism i’m optimistic because of the contract it’s a vet minimum signing just like how listen with with campaign right it was like you know what is a vet min you put up with it until you can’t anymore and for Cam look he took us all the way to the playoffs but and then it was like all right you know what I’m saying let’s move on to the next guy but for that price you hope that he’s leaving a losing situation in Utah he’s reinvigorated here in New York we know he’s a big fashion guy you know I mentioned it on the free agency show some people might not care about that but hey for for a player who’s moving to a new situation wants to be comfortable that’s all part of it it’s all part and parcel what he’s doing in the offseason right so he’s he’s fashion avenue you do your do your fashion thing you go to the garden light it up he could have a nice productive season here as a six-man seventh man off the bench
oh he has half a million followers on Twitter his account that’s a lot that’s more as most for a bench for a bench player
for a bench player so he you know you he has a Philippine market he you know and he played for the Lakers so he he got that big following there back in LA and you know these decorated type scorers are they seem to be popular with fans right like the highlights you know you got fans that want Jaylen Green just because of YouTube highlights like like it’s just
it’s it’s it’s the TV watch it’s being able to watch a guy you know Kyrie Irving someone and get to the basket something just nice about attractive about watching that on TV to the casual fan and to all fans um so he’s going to bring that like J.R smith people love J.R smith and they put up with it because he gave you some of those nice highlights um that that look good on TV and and Jordan Clarkson’s going to bring that that dynamic to the team but here’s also CP why I think it’s okay to view this as optimistic the Knicks sort of have built a little mini track record over the ca past couple seasons when you look at Don Wright right like yeah when we got him what was everybody was like and now people are like ressign him you people were clamoring for him to play playoff minutes that was not the same energy we had when we acquired him
yeah landry Sham who is a known veteran player at this point has been on a million teams yet again now you see that hey he actually has a market in free agency multiple teams want him maybe teams that have already had him want him back it’s true
because he came to New York City and he played well in this environment dante Devenenzo career year with the New York Knicks and and and in some respects statistically Mikuel had a a statistical season that is not a bad season in terms of efficiency right he has to take a he has to get better this year in terms of certain aspects but what I’m saying is no one has been really terrible in these opportunities so when you look at that and you look at Jordan Clarkson now coming to a winning situation you could look at it is this the best team he’s ever played on that’s a question he’s been on a lot of bad teams yeah when he got drafted to the Lakers with Julius Randle and Josh Hart they weren’t a good team
so is this the best environment he’s ever played in
like that could bring a motivation to him and also the guy’s 33 on a one-year deal he’s coming to New York he loves fashion he was just hanging out with Jaylen Brunson in company i don’t think he wants this year to be the last year that he plays basketball and I definitely don’t think he would like for this year to be the only year he plays in New York City so you would think that alone from a personal career perspective he’s going to be motivated to give you a career year or or close to a career year in whatever role that he is he is given and so when you look at all those dynamics EP this could turn out to be a very good signing at the end of the season
yeah for sure and we’re we’re showing Josh Hart throws up the IG story of of their Laker days so he’s welcoming Jordan Clarkson to the uh the New York Knicks shout out to the Filipinos in the chat miles Gamboa he’s throwing the flags up isaac Blanca for salute to you salute to Amp Sai salute to you will Marcato as I said low will be B salute all right so big big big night for the Filipinos in the chat jesse Ror Valdez checking in on the Facebook as well so everybody’s hype man jordan Clarkson tense assignment the New York Knicks
i’m to I’m totally trying to trust me I wasn’t that hype about Jordan Clarkson but I’m totally trying to I’m trying to angle my way there trying to get there him and Westbrook they not my type
that’s not my type that’s not my type it’s the circumstance it’s a circumstance it’s different you know trade deadline people like “Yo you want to trade for Clarks?” I’m like “Hell no no i’m good i’m on tape.” But for the vet minimum this is what we’re working with here and for a team that came close to getting to the chip the hope is this is the thing is with me is like we just got to wait and see the coach the players how they mix the system how he maximizes this roster and Alex hey Alex made a good point mike Brown is the front runner you know breaking news to the people in the chat who were in here mike Brown is the front runner and so hey you look at Malik Monk some of his best years six man of the year Mike Brown can he can he can he get that back with with Jordan Clarkson you can make the argument Mike Brown you know we talk about the players that Tibs played a role mike Brown could be the coach that turned around Malik Monk’s career from the perspective of remember Malik Monk you know came out of college he was kind of highly regarded didn’t really work out like like his career was like what type of player really is he is he a starter like like what is he in this league mike Brown got to coach him and now we know what he is he he he’s a he’s a bonafide scorer he can be a starter if you want he can be a combo guard and he can be a Jamal Crawford off the bench if you need him to so he he’s kind of stamped a himself in the league so listen I personally think CP hasn’t been reported this is my opinion
you know with when it comes to the coach i think some of this may have already been discussed with candidates
in terms of you can’t look at candidates and say as a front office we’re going to go into free agency in my opinion and you just said that you’re going to hire based on expanding rotations giving multiple players opportunities maximizing certain players how can you not as a front office you know sit Mike Brown and Taylor Jenkins whoever else and say “What do you guys think of Jordan Clarkson?” How would he fit in your system how would Russell Westbrook fit in your system like these interviews don’t go 30 minutes these interviews last hours for a reason like these interviews they put you to the test they ask you about players they ask you about schemes they ask you what specifically you’re going to do to maximize certain players and in this case unique case for the Knicks for an office I am pretty sure that they discuss potential targets because guess what these coaches are not interviewing anywhere else there’s no other jobs so you giving information to a Mike Brown Mike Brown’s not going to turn around and give it to who like there’s no other jobs the Knicks is the only job available so I’m pretty sure for the fans that are like freaking out because they don’t have a head coach and they’re in free agency I think the Knicks probably already know right now who is the coach i think that coach probably already knows right now who is like that if he’s going to be more likely the coach and I think that coach has probably already been in these discussions about most likely what their prians are going to be in free agency and how those targets and those players could fit into their system
yeah and and the thing with the with the mic um with Mike Brown is is that they feel like he can maximize the top end talent under they that’s why he he’s the front runner they feel like he can do the best job in in particular with Bridges and Towns and with Brunson obviously being the straw they feel like he can do that the best and then you know you add in a guy like a Clarkson off the bench similar situation but they also make no mistake they want player development player development is going to be a huge huge priority for this team going forward they understand it with the second apron and with the limited options that they have and so they’re going to fortify him or the next coach they’re they’re investing heavy in play development play development play development player development so th those are kind of gonna be the priorities man if you could nitpick if Jenkins doesn’t get it as opposed to Brown where do you think Jenkins might have Do you think that Jaw situation even though it wasn’t totally entirely fair but do you think the Jaw situation may have swayed you know as well as Mike Brown being able to
maximize you think that
could have been i think I think it’s the experience factor and it could be Wes and the internal and the leaguewide recommendations pushing Mike Brown at this point plus the experience factor and I I sometimes front offices or owners get infatuated with a candidate um having an experience at a specific place or with a spe or or or with a specific player for example I believe one of the infatuations that this front office has with Jason Kid is the fact that Jason Kid has been in very strong personality locker rooms not only as a player having to deal with a Kenyan Martin but also as a coach being able to you know being uh coaching a LeBron James a lot of these personalities i think Jason Kid’s experience and being a player coach is something that just the front office is infatuated by and they say “Okay what what could he do here with these guys?” I think with Mike Brown if I had to guess I think that Golden State run where remember Mike Brown was the hottest you know assistant ever during that run and he Steve Kerr like he got a lot of credit and then going into Sacramento he had a lot of momentum as a candidate and then after that when Sacramento was the number one offense and being able to turn around that team and giving them a playoff birth for the first time in since since the good old ages of of Sacramento like I think this front office looks at being able to be in that environment with Curry with Steve Kerr that Golden State whole dynamic i think that is attractive to them um and they lean on that for you know in terms of what he could bring here to the New York Knicks
yeah fair enough fair enough man um let’s get to the Discord stg Nick do we still have STG Nick in the building
yes I’m here how you feeling bro
feeling good feeling good i like the signing again for a minimum like you were saying like you can’t go wrong with it because who else are you going to get at that value at that production for the vet minimum so don’t mind it at all um question though I did have is that obviously you were mentioning um the taxpayer mid-level exception that we have so if we do use that then we would be hardcaped for the second apron but that just pretty much means we just can’t go into the second apron so why wouldn’t we want to use that i know Al Horford’s a name that’s been thrown out there as a guy maybe along with some other names but I was just wondering why they wouldn’t want to use it because if you have the money available and you don’t plan to go into the second apron shouldn’t you just want to get up as close as you can to it without going into it
no but the thing is is that if they use any of that taxpayer mid-level they don’t have to use all 5.7 if they use any of it it’s going to trigger the second apron that’s the thing so what they’re thinking is stuff like this like going into free agency maybe they knew in back channels that Jordan Clarkson would become available but this is the type of move that they’re benefiting from in that he’s getting bought out by Utah so he’s getting some paper there then he could come here get the vet minimum and they don’t have to dip into the second apron for that because remember once they do that they are highly highly restricted for making moves so you want to do that like like Yosi guy Yosi was here earlier today he was like maybe that’s a next year move not to say that they’re not going to do it this year but maybe that’s a next year move when like you only want to be in that in that territory when like you’re locked in with your championship contending team and maybe for like one year or two and then you want to be able to have the flexibility to get out of it oh I see i thought when it was hard cap the second year that just means they can’t go into it like you’re you’re stuck at the right below it but it mean so if they use any of it then they’re automatically going
they’re automatically so so what they want to do and Bobby Marks had mentioned this when he was here as well what they would want to do with a guy like an Al Horford is because he’s been in the league for 10 plus years I’m pulling this up again his vet minimum number would be $3.6 million so what they would want to do is instead of using any of that tax payment level or say that 5.7 is say hey you know can you give us a little bit of a deal here it’s a difference of you know 1 something$2 point something million dollars can you give us a little bit of a deal on a vet minimum so that we can maintain that roster flexibility i see because I know another option too um would be maybe a sign and trade with a Chua to try to get something there but also with the taxpayer mid-level you also can’t use that as an exception right so if you trade a chew like you have to pretty much match that money it’s not like you can use
that exception to absorb anything
yeah i’m just curious to see like I don’t I don’t know what Precious is going to get out there because he I would think is more of a vet minimum type of player so I mean Precious if you think about the money he was making this year $6 million he was sitting pretty pretty pretty well man he was making money man if you think about it
yeah no for sure um yeah so that was pretty much my questions um appreciate it and hopefully you know the Mike Brown will become official with by the end of the week hopefully
yeah hopefully man sg Nick you going to summer league what’s your plan
no I won’t be out there i mean my goal is to get out there one year but it would the Knicks would have to have a top three pick like R.J in 2019 okay um but it definitely looks like fun i saw you guys have the sports business class with Bobby Mar it looks fun
yeah it’s always fun man but yeah if you change your mind we’ll be there man
was good stg Nick man call us up on the KFTV Discord ladies and gentlemen we got 3,000 people here on the checkin the number one show for the fans by the fans the franchise JD Sports Talk 11:20 here on the East Coast if you guys are new in the chat if you guys are new viewers here with NicksFan TV type in #new and we will shout you guys out we’ve left the link in the chat for the Discord you just heard STG Nick call us up on the Discord with his takes if you want to call in and talk about uh free agency whether it’s Jordan Clarkson or whoever you want to talk about give us a call on the KFTV Discord and let us know how you guys are feeling man question yeah I think this signing creates a lot of conversation different ways um what does this do to Miles Deuce McBride anything TBD let’s wait till the off season you know maybe the Knicks have bigger fish that they want to fry and maybe Jordan Clarkson is that vet minimum steel in case they make a bigger deal some somewhere down the summer where you know maybe they have to give multiple players they acquire okay now but we got Clarkson we lost this guy but we got Clarkson to kind of Is it Is it somewhere along those lines or do you think Deuce might be in limbo deuce is interesting man um I mean you know I’m pulling up the graphic right now most points off the bench in the last five years clarkson clearing the way 45.89 malik Monk 38.82 bobby Porters 3594 is Duce even gonna get the ball when this guy’s on the floor i don’t know man bro we talked about campaign and him not rolling and and that’s campaign i mean the only difference is is is Jordan Clarkson does it with a plan
he does it with a plan he’s got a plan
and and he’s more dynamic in doing that
right
and but you know truth be told he’s a guy you want the ball in his hands as compared to Deuce more often than not but you also want some chemistry on the court with the two guys
that’s why that’s why the Jordan Clarkson creates a lot of conversation because there’s so many questions we can ask do we ask “Hey do you want to start Jordan Clarkson?” That’s a question you can ask
right no way because I don’t think Josh Hart is the starter next year
no I’m not i don’t I don’t think you’re going to hire a Mike Brown to say like I don’t think you’re going to hire Mike Brown and then give Mike Brown a limitation of also maximize Josh Hart in a starting lineup like change that net rating like no I don’t think we’re going to make it that difficult on a new head coach it’s like you want to make it easier for him to actually uh implement and maximize his system so now we we have an open starting spot with Mike Brown system again it’s the same question do you go with Mitch if Mitch is here i think he’s going to be here but do you go with Mitch and go with the big lineup or do you say now “Hey let’s start Deuce let’s go with Jordan Clarkson off the bench.” Like there’s there’s an array of things that you can think about when it comes to Deuce McBride’s role or do you just say you know what hey the Dallas Mavericks when healthy have a starting five off the bench it seems like so do we just say hey we’re just going to be a deeper team it’s going to be deuce we’re going to figure it out hey that’s Mike Brown’s job or whoever’s the head coach right like like if we’re if we’re giving a new head coach that responsibility hey don’t tell me how these players play with Tibs because Tib is not here no more let me see how Duce plays with Mike Brown and Jordan Clarkson so like there’s so many angles and ways that this could go but I think the Jordan Clarkson signing is very interesting because Deuce’s career here with the Knicks
can go very much different ways and he’s in a contract year
he is in a contract year he is in a contract year
you sure you want to give up on Deuce in a contract year
you sure you want to give up on Mitch in a contract year you I mean you could create you need that defense where you’re going to get players best
yeah and hey maybe maybe you start uh maybe you start Deuce mitch likes expensive trucks man [Laughter] you know what I mean mitch Mitch likes to Mitch likes to go wild in the country
mitch wants some trucks man
you know what I mean so I don’t know man i know Mitch like Yo hey I mean the way Mitch played in the playoffs it’s like he said my contract year starting now
yep yep yep
that’s the risk that’s the risk CP about me giving up on Mitch and Deuce is I look at these contract years and I look at the history of the league and all sports these players you know Deuce might mess around and shoot 45% from three this year just because it’s a contract year like that’s how it goes yeah i want to get that production here what what do you guys think man what do you guys think in the chat leave us a comment in the chat and and let us know where does that leave Deuce we got to see how they work it out man i mean he definitely need Duce hopefully he comes back healthier has a little bit more has a little bit more bounce where’d that sound come from has a little bit more bounce and and um you know has a more productive year but play Pacer series again just wasn’t um wasn’t his best so we’ll see see we’ll see what’s up there with uh with Miles Duce McBride let’s read some super chats shout out to Blackness Fight Out Super Chat and number two on the YouTube chat leaderboard he says “People forgot forget how good Clarkson is he can create he’s cheap and in the right system he can be a six-man candidate we still need a coach though lol.” JR 2.0 rond Del Hartley $10 super chat number one on the leaderboard says “This is fire on some bellyish blue lights salute.” So he’s hyped he’s definitely hyped for Clarkson okay who else we got uh oh uh oh hang on i gotta go to my new soundboard here and see if this is it here we go that’s right robert Randolph ladies and gentlemen Sergeant Sources $20 super chat they told me not to read it because he might try to take the show off the rails this new trade he says is going to make the Knicks make me the Knicks make me the Knicks is the favorite to win the tile missing the T new coach announced tomorrow afternoon all right so that’s what sources tells us so I would say uh there is no trade and we’ll probably hear by Friday next week on the new coach and Stefan Bondi with a new report okay um hang on hang on let’s get to it and and this is this this was why the to me the whole what Russell Westbrook interest was interesting to me
even to begin with um because as you pull up the tweet
that was one of my concerns with signing him in the first place even with a path i’m good i’m good on Brody man i’m just I was a little uh You got You got You got
I got it yep i got it up bobby says “From what I’m hearing I wouldn’t expect the Knicks to sign Russell Westbrook there’s no clear path to sustain playing time for him on this roster and he’s not the type to sit comfortably on the bench.” Well when he’s got multiple suitors as as both Bondie and Begley said I wouldn’t expect that after they got Clarkson wouldn’t make sense we need We need a wing and a big now but even even so like remember there was some rumblings in Denver that you know the GM kind of wasn’t in favor of giving Westbrook extended time they felt that the younger players should have played over him mike Bal like and Mike Balone being a veteran coach relied on Westbrook being a veteran you like West although Westbrook is 36 whatever he is he still is a personality that in a locker room still breeds like a starter still breeds sort of like a star
and if you bring him to the New York market it’s to me it’s like you are signing a guaranteed role for him no matter what his performance is
yeah and when and this is why the Westbrook didn’t make sense to me CP because if you just fired a coach because you want to go into player development and you want to emphasize an expanded rotation and you want to kind of be an environment where if someone has a couple of off nights you’re going to give someone else an opportunity how is that going to work with Russell Westbrook when Russell Westbrook goes five straight games of donuts and miss layups and being on Shack in a fool yeah how is that going to work and then him being the personality that he is like he’s a personality that’s gonna come to the locker room and he’s gonna make some best friends and then those friends are going to ride with him and what’s going to happen if you bench him then or like it’s just too much even though he’s an older vet it’s just too much with Westbrook in my opinion that could go wrong than what could what the reward could be that’s why Westbrook to me didn’t make sense
i’ll pass on Brody man i’ll pass on Brody bro tahoe salute to you Tahoe we’ll take a look at some of the remaining options and we’ll we’ll look through the list see who who would be ideal al Horford still out there hey maybe he does you know maybe he can be had for that 5.7 taxpayer mid-level if they choose to do that maybe it is the vet minimum that he will settle for and come in and and be a mentor to our guy called Anthony Towns maybe cuz the way the Celtics are looking hey that’s a work in progress you know Al Al might want to come come to New York you know you know what I mean you can show him around man you know take Al uptown man take Al to the Heights man who who who would have thought that Luke Cornet that same
unicorn goof
same goofball that was a New York Nick
Yeah turn into
We made fun of him
was going to make 41 bands 41 million
turned into a monster man wow
mhm turned into a monster man great congratulations to Luke Cornet man
i wonder how many of those 41 came in that that Nick that game against the Knicks right
did he get 10 of those
right
when he had what like eight blocks or whatever it was
yeah yeah i’m telling you
that game just got up got up the contract sheesh
um shout out to Mark $10 super chat says “Do you think a coach like Brown will dip into and utilize some of the young fresh blood on our bench i want to see Kick and crew more.” I don’t think he I don’t think it’s going to be optional at this point i don’t think it’s going to be optional you know like I said will it be a a demand or will it be an edict that the new coach go 10 11 12 deep i don’t I I wouldn’t necessarily go that far but like I said the organization’s priority is player development and utilizing this bench you have to in this apron era they understand what they’re working with they understand that the roster is topheavy i am skeptical that Tyler Kohley is going to be in this rotation next season well look I I always thought he was going to be third string at the best at the least
i’m very skeptical
at the best at best i always thought he was going to be third string you’re not going to rely on Tyler Cole to be a backup point guard for a championship caliber team
he still has a lot of long way to go doesn’t mean he can’t doesn’t mean he’ll never get there but he’s got a long way to go you give him some time you got to go with a vet this whole player development expanded rotation i think a lot of fans are thinking that that means from day one you’re going to see McCulla’s haporti cole and dier in the rotation and I don’t think that necessarily means that right
I just think it means my perspective is if those four guys are on the roster they’re on the active roster I think two of those four have to crack the rotation I think you’re hoping for that if you’re the New York Knicks you got to hit on two of two of those four you got to hit on and then again if they’re on the roster throughout an 82 game season then they all see sprinkled moments and minutes yeah and and I think that’s where the ultimate goal rests not kind of the way the fans are thinking where it’s like oh you know they keep talking about player development exper that means that all these like I don’t think all four of those guys are playing day one
right
pending a big trade or something like that you know what I mean like
Yeah but as it stands right now I think it just means that throughout a season the front office would like to see them play and get more opportunities that they did with this previous coach let’s go to LD on the Discord ld how you feeling man twice twice in a row man two times today
yes heard first things first glad to see y’all both jd was goody uh I like the signing because for one before we even talk about the basketball the attitude that Jordan Clarkson has is exactly what we need in this on this roster
fearless
i mean I don’t fearless and I don’t think anybody has gotten into more fighting stances in the last three years than Jordan Clarkson like if you look up pictures of this dude he’s always ready to punch somebody he’s a crash out and we need that kind of just ruthless aggressive type vibe if y’all watch wrestling you know and I prefer this kind of ruthless over a Westbrook ruthless because this is a smarter basketball player decisions wise a better shooter you know so I like this signing a lot it’s a really really good signing and we’re not paying much for him anyway and then I left a comment in the chat uh Danny A you could have you could have got two picks for this dude at one point but everybody was hyping this dude as you got to get more you really you really could have but now you lost him for basically nothing
but I do want to speak about the the conversations that y’all were having about the bench and who gets minutes and things of that sort
mhm
mike Brown was on the strength and numbers Warriors Championship roster where they would go 12 men down the line if they needed to so I’m not worried about you know whoever is going to get minutes tyler Kolick you know you’re my boy but if you’re not the best man for the job it’s going to go to whoever’s is ready to take on that job mike what’s his name as well deuce McBride same thing we love y’all y’all Nick Knicks forever but it’s whoever’s got the We need a championship breast and if Mike Brown is the guy he’s at least one that I know offensively at least he’s going to use as much as he needs to use to get the best out of the roster i do hope though he comes with some kind of defensive coach cuz he ain’t known for defense you know what I’m saying he’s a good coach though he’s a really really good coach really really smart coach you know respect him around the league just bring a defensive coach with you and we are good
yeah I I hear you man my understanding is Yeah they’re going to they’re going to build up the staff with him
um and yeah but like I I I think Mike Brown is he’s in the driver’s seat right now anything could happen
but he’s in the driver seat right now
right
how realistic i kept seeing this lady from uh South Carolina is that was that real or is that
Yeah no that was real i mean she she’s not like a official candidate but they they talked they they definitely talked to Don Staley
you know what I’m saying
wow
so So tell Shams he’s he’s got to clear clear off his desk he might have missed that one i’m helping him that’s crazy no doubt but I like the signing though it’s a really good signing who else are we looking al Horford i mean
I respect it but uh don’t we got like four bigs already with one African dude that just joined the team like two weeks ago
well I I think Precious is gone
i see
as for skill set wise Mitch and Hucky don’t do what Al can do fact
you know
he’s he’s a grown man though that’s a grown dude
and And look man I’m going I’m still going off of I’m still going off of uh uh Melo i’m still going off Melo’s comment man i want him in for Towns i want to see if that’s is that a difference maker right there
i want him here for Towns in particular i’m not really concerned if he’s going to go out there and play i don’t even care if he plays to be honest with you
i want him here for leadership championship pedigree and I want him here working with Towns every day
right i can see that part kind of like a partial coach mentor
I got you how much is it i’m assuming he’ll be a minimum as well right
yes yeah well well they could they could offer him the 5.7 i mean according to Michael Scott there is some competition here between the Celtics uh Mark Stein also mentioned the Warriors along with Michael Scott the Nuggets that would be very interesting the Cavs very interesting and the Lakers all all play all teams that could use Al Horford services
how old is he like 38 or something
he got to be up there by now man al Hford been in the league forever bro i feel it for sure but I like to sign it i’ll see what we got next and hopefully I don’t know who said we got Mike Brown announced tomorrow but I won’t mind it at all just bring defense though bro yes please
all right man
you know what I’m saying i hollow
ld on the checkin man yeah now we we going to start doing uh our Mike Brown homework our Mike Brown content uh bring some more people out there on the beat
al Hford just turned 39 June 3rd
okay and there’s a reason why all those teams you’re mentioning are all you have something in common they’re all contending teams
that’s right
there’s there’s two I believe there’s two reasons that they all want our Hawford he shot 36 42 and 44 and a half% from three his last three seasons he’s actually shot better from three as he’s aged
kind of the kind of the Brook Lopez route of kind of going to the perimeter from early in his Atlanta Hawks days he’s shooting better as he’s getting older uh struggled a little bit there in the playoffs against the Knicks but also again it’s something you just have to watch al Hawford is a very good defender mhm mhm
he can guard he can switch and you’ll be surprised he actually guards wings and some of these guards he guards them well because unlike Towns and this goes to your point Al Horford in perimeter defense is very disciplined because he knows how to use his hand placement very disciplined he has sound technique doing so i would like to see how any of that could materialize with car Anthony Towns
yeah you don’t know listen somebody in the chat was like you know Town’s been in the league for x amount of years what can Al Horford teach him bro look at look at look at how much credit Melo gave to Jason Kidd when Jason Kidd was here carmelo Anthony was third in the MV in the league and MVP voting that year with the Knicks tape year when when they had you had sheed you had kid Marcus Cami you had Kmart bro Melo was getting shots that he wanted when Jason Kidd was here melo had more discipline when Jason Kid was here melo got to certain spots at Mer melo went to certain spots on the floor to receive the basketball in better spots on the floor when Jason Kid was here like that’s all behind the scenes stuff with Jason Kid working with him and you know being that leader and like there’s a reason why Melo is giving him that credit
that’s right telling you sometimes like and and and it’s not sometimes all numbers CP like Caron Towns can give me the same production but if Al Hawford gets Caron Towns to foul 1.0 less fouls per game if he can do that and he can at certain points of the game get the basketball in certain areas where he’s more effective that alone is worth the signing
that’s right and and he could give you the same numbers but you’ll have to watch to actually see the impact that you know someone could have on your career
yeah 100% agree man uh King Matthews oh I see who we going to close with tonight i know who we going to close with tonight uh on Jordan Clark’s side I know who we going to close with king Matthews go ahead go ahead and I’ll mute your mic hey fellas how you doing tonight man good man good to hear from you man how you doing
of course man of course man i didn’t even hear about this news when it came back for Washington DC man okay Clarkson other than being Yeah man other than being trucker person that’s coming off the bench hey I’ll take it man
hey hey there’s going to be many of nights you enjoy it now cuz I already know you going to be calling Cole come November December you’re going to be scratching your head out
hey imagine I mean of course man but imagine him and campaign just doing all them shots bro it’s going to be a headache man but hey
one step at a time man summer’s coming up man so yeah let’s go Knicks man y’all be safe out there
king Matthews on the checkin all right salute to King Matthews salute that’s our guy he’s a KFTV day one we still got 3,000 people in here strong 3100 to be exact make sure you guys hit the like button hit the share button and subscribe to the channel for sure um salute to $10 super chat i don’t know whose name this is hold on hold on let me make sure I got the person’s name right oh it’s just the alien just Alien Head shout out to Alien Head says “Along with the possibility of bringing back Dante in a trade with Minnesota would y’all be open to also swapping Duce for more traditional vet point guard to come off the bench and run the offense like a Mike Connley?” It’s another guy with Dante dreams man it’s another guy with Dante dreams you know
bring him
look it’s not impossible but I don’t see the Knicks making a trade to get Dante back that’s all I’ll say and correct and correction mitchell Robinson 12.9 million he’s in a contract year
miles has one more year
according to Hoops hype he’s at 4.3 million for 2526 for 2627 he’s on the books for 3.9 so he’s getting more money this year and according to Hoops hype he is under the books for 2627 at 3.9 million because he signed a 4-year deal but I was under the impression that there was an option so it looks like it is a fully guaranteed for next season so he still has two seasons left at a very uh modest contract so the conversation still is there in terms of you have flexibility you have a guy on a very good deal what does this move do for his future here yeah there there you go man okay all right let’s get to Okay who we got here ashwin let’s go to India we going international with these last two ashwin in India g mute your mic so uh on X I just saw a video Mike Breen Mike Breen frying uh Jordan Claxton about a sword sucking against a match with Nick like he was sucking wilder than what this previous guy was trying him but the only person who can contain that who I think might be our next coach uh I’m getting very bad with names today uh who’s Sacramento Kings coach
m Oh Mike Brown mike Brown yes yeah so he was uh the main one of the most important reason he was fired because uh he was calling out his superstar he was suggesting to put Dimar Dur on Ben and he was calling out publicly dear and Fox so Mike Brown is the perfect guy to control his spot chucking when he goes out of hand
uh the other thing is uh uh I I don’t think Al Hford should come here because I know he might be very good at perimeter defense against but the way Jayen Brunson has fried him again and again he he has ruined Alford completely for me i can never see him as a good dependent parimeter because you all know what he did to Alford but uh you the main thing is CB you know how critical I have been for Jos heart do you think he can contribute to the championship team that is ours for the next season or can we use his uh use his salary and fura salary combined to get a better player that’s my question to you both
thank you for taking my call guys
appreciate you man appreciate my guy call uh my guy Ashwin checking in from India man salute to you Ashwin um I don’t you know I don’t think they’re going to bail in heart you know he had a he had a rough postseason uh in particular the the pace of game we’ll see what the next coach has in store for him he is still a uh veteran he can still help he still contributes in a multitude of ways it’s just a matter of what his role is we’ll see man jd your thoughts on Hart man uh Josh I mean we’ll see we’ll see what happens with Josh Hart think definitely his role is going to change um for next season i think if he is a New York Knick if he is here uh he’ll his role will be off the bench and he’ll have to reprogram his mindset to come in ready um and I think he’ll be excellent if that’s his role because you know there was a graphic I saw about how in a 20 to 25 minute range he grades out as an excellent player i think it was like the LeBron it’s one of those uh websites where for that range of minutes he graded out as under their criteria an excellent basketball player and I think that’s been what many have felt is should be his range in terms of maximizing when we talk about maximizing sometimes doesn’t have to all be about everyone just having an uptick in scoring or statistics sometimes it’s just simplifying someone’s role sometimes it’s just giving someone a role that they can maximize those minutes so just doing that if Mike Brown is the coach and he gives Josh Hart a specified role for the minutes that he can give you his best that alone the head coach is maximizing the player it’s not about all statistics it’s about other faces facets of the game
yeah true indeed true indeed man um I want to take some time out real quick to salute one of our sponsors of tonight’s show and that is Wayfair man if you guys have not shopped on Wayfair make sure you check out Wayfair man for all of your outdoor needs especially in the summertime one of the things you know I’ve been doing especially with with uh with the offseason in full gear is really just catching up on around the house man and adding some stuff to the backyard in particular man i got a nice dope patio set from Wayfair plus a charcoal grill man and so JD man once we start entertaining man I’ll invite you over man you come through we’ll we’ll uh we’ll cook some burgers up on the grill have some drinks and whatnot and and uh chill out for the offseason but nah I got all of that on on Wayfair man one-stop shop for all of your outdoor needs and for for the Fourth of July they are having 70% off clearance sales so that is lawn furniture grills lawn games you name it Rayfair has you guys covered they have 24-hour deals only so make sure you guys check them out wayfair.com is the website and like I said they literally have everything for your outdoor needs man there’s something for every style every home they make it super easy free and easy delivery even on the big stuff all right so find all of your outdoor musthaves shop outdoor furniture grills lawn games and way more for way less head to wayfair.com right now to explore a huge outdoor selection that’s wayfair.com wayfair every style every home all right so make sure you guys check our people out over there at uh at Wayfair tell them the good people at NickFan TV sent you 70% off sitewide on their Fourth of July sale so shout out to our people at Wayfair okay all right last call the night man you know we we got Jordan Clarkson and he’s representing the Philippines so we got to go to the Philippines only right that we close out in the Philippines man and let’s go to our guy Carlo from the Philippines talk about the signing man how you doing man hey CP JD
how you doing man how you feeling bro
philippines yeah yeah yeah
it’s been a while man uh got the shirts that I ordered by the way oh yes yes yes yes I saw you styling and profiling in your once a nick always Nick shirts man
thank you but rapid fire cuz I’m currently at work right now but this is a good deal for me at 3.6 million as compared to a lookard at 11 million
mhm
but when he played in our national team he did had those heads scratcher plays but watch the replays of FIA World Cup in 2023 where he’s the only productive player in our team obviously and we got Arjak games with cat in Dominican Republic and Italy
when the whole nation is rooting for you he will turn on that dog mentality and hopefully he will do the same here in New York so that being said he’s definitely coming off the bench and he can be playing along alongside Jaylen Brunson because we both they both needed the ball and also the question earlier where do we put Duce in this situation and my unpopular suggestion is to put him in the starting five along with the captain and we put Hart
on the bench with Jordan Clarkson cuz Clarkson needs to play alongside a facilitator true and that’s where Tyler Koh comes in on the second unit
yeah by the way he reminds me of a slim Anthony Mason and I and I hope he brings the same vibes here
okay all right so Carlo yeah man i know you got to work man appreciate the call man thank you
Carlo from the Philippines so he’s saying start deuce see I told you this is going to the Clarkson sign is is going to give the fan base a lot of different conversations different ideas and that’ll be the new head coach’s uh decision to make in terms of because again it’s not so much who you think is the better player but if the continued philosophy is maximizing this maximizing that it’s been a lot of talk even with the previous head coach that Deuce should have been a starter even above Mitch there’s a lot of there’s there’s data out there and there’s arguments that even uh you know with you saw the OKC head coach tried to do that a few times in the finals going with Kase Wallace and and at different points of of that NBA Finals series with going away from what they had for the for the whole season and here in New York a lot of fans want to see before whatever happens with Deuce here as a Knick they want to be able to give him that opportunity to be a starter um they think that you know when you have especially now when you’re looking at if this lineup remains you’re looking at okay how can Muel get better it’s like the Knicks have a lot of players in the starter lineup that everybody wants to get better but there’s one there’s one basketball season
only one it’s like we want to continue to add additional scorers or ball handlers to that starting five like no you got to add these spot guys um around and see how you can make that work within a system and and and if that’s the case uh Deuce’s skill sets uh could work well as as a starter
yeah there there you go man uh shout out to our guy Nate Lopez he donated five franchise channel memberships so shout out to you Nate and welcome to the franchise channel memberships uh EGYC Coach Malpa the Thirst David Dean and BC welcome to the franchise channel members and and uh make sure you guys thank Nate Lopez for gifting you a membership shout out to Nate he also sends a $10 super chat that says “This Clarkson signing is giving me J.R smith vibes let’s go Knicks.” Hey if only he can have a sixman of the year type of campaign we’d be in great shape let’s give it up benefit of the doubt and see what happens come training camp shout out to Randy he says “Um I Dan averaged more than our whole bench last year great pickup.” Oh Jordan jordan averaged more than our whole bench last year great pickup yes he did yes he did so shout out to him shout out to DJ Eric El Beats uh he’s a franchise channel member as well king Swizz appreciate you and shout out Nick Knicks are nowhere fight super chat number three on the chat leaderboard says this is why y’all are goated news breaks and I know I can come here for fan analytical reaction love KFTV always on the money with it well we appreciate the support man definitely appreciate this support man this is show number three for us today but hey it’s it’s all for a labor of love man we you know we love what we do here and we make sure that we give you your money’s worth because hey everybody’s time is valuable these days and people are you know short on attention span people don’t don’t uh have time for a lot so we appreciate y’all sticking it out with us man 3,000 people here on the checkin great show for show number three okay um tomorrow hey we going to do some some Mike Brown research mike Brown deep dives we’re going to start uh booking some people here as I said it’s looking like he’s a front runner things can change but it’s looking like Mike Brown could be next in line to be the next head coach of the New York Knicks so we want to do some research and uh and see what we getting ourselves into here so that could be starting on Tuesday maybe Wednesday just stay on the lookout any more free agent pickups obviously you guys will know where to come to and again shout out to the leaderboard man rond Del Hartley shout out to raging i think this is piano shout out to Money the top three on the leaderboard uh JD any closing remarks i think I think a head coach is going to be announced this week i think although summer league is next week and I know we got the Fourth of July weekend stuff you know a lot of people are off you look at establishing the staff getting ready for summer league and getting ready for that i think if the Knicks know now who they want I think they’ll try to get it done sooner rather than later that way they can prep into the next phase of the offseason so that’s my prediction
yeah I I’m with you as well man so keep it locked here ladies and gentlemen anything happens I don’t care what time of night it is we will be live to talk about it appreciate everybody support to the replay gang remember that these shows are available in audio podcast format so if you got to wake up go to work in the morning we’ll be there right there on every audio podcast platform all right so we’ll see you guys uh tomorrow man same time same place we out of here peace

FOR THE FANS, BY THE FANS!!!

  1. Always knew we was gonna get Jordan Clarkson one day, it’s just Danny Ange always got in the way of that , great pick up specially, for that price for the production that he brings💯🔥 Leon Rose cooking

  2. Sorry not sorry. Hart is making $7M more than HERB JONES, 5 MORE THAN DFS, N-A-W, SCHROEDER , 1 MORE THAN ZUBAC SHOULD I KEEP GOING? as Knicks fans we need to call that out because that's not okay if they're trying to get the most out of this roster as possible. They can't afford that contract for a player who is at his best playing 25 min like JD said. We all know if Josh was making that somewhere else & they wouldn't trade for him.

  3. Don't hate it. We really need a microwave scorer off the bench that can create his own shot.

Curious what this means for Josh.

  4. Clarkson is not a shooter. He can handle it, and he can score. If you think it is Divo. You are wrong. He wilk have great stretches, and he will have terrible stretches. Get ready.

  5. We have been looking at homeboy for 2-3 years now!.. Leon has been looking at him for years now!… all I need is divinchenzo and we are good!!!!! And whatever coach we get I know it will be a coach that utilizes the bench! We right there Knicks fan! Be patient! I don’t want any trades!… everyone on this team is important!

  6. Look i understand the the salary cap thing where we are limited, but you have teams, even with the salary cap rules, other teams are reloading with quality depth players, and all we have added is Jordan Clarkson. I know Leon has set us on the path to win, but we need more than that. I hope Leon Has bigger moves because other fan teams seem to be killing in free agency…….we need Taylor Jenkins. He's just done an awesome job of working to develop players and T. Jenkins have done has also coached his team was balance.

    Taylor Jenkins 👍
    Mike Brown 👎

  7. Clarkson is the perfect architype to eat up the non-Jalen minutes. Deuce is a floor spacer that can enhance those minutes. Josh… not so much. On a non-Thibs teams, Josh just might be a 5th corner puzzle piece.

  8. KNICKS.HAD THE BEST 3 POINT SHOOTING GUARD IN THE LEAGUE DONTE DIVINCENZO BUT LEON ROSE FCKED THAT UP. CLARKSON IS SOFT AND PLAYS NO DEFENCE. KNICKS NEED JULIUS RANDLE, DONTE DIVINCENZO, AND ISAIAH HARTENSTEIN.

  9. 🫡 Asians!!!! The Asian invasion has begun! 🇵🇭 Pretty good pick up. It’ll be interesting to see how Mike Brown incorporates the talent.

  10. Lol people still think Clarkson is good…?

One of the most inefficient scorers in the league who can't shoot the three paired with the fact that he's been one of the worst guard defenders in the NBA over the past few years… Leon is super washed man what a joke

  11. Westbrook is a very selfish he likes extra minutes and bring too much drama. He could make us and break us a wild cat.

  12. Disney pop Queen, New York welcome to New York. Now we’re getting stronger more than more. We gonna be all right block
