on today’s show the Denver Nuggets got something cooking But did they win the trade cam Johnson for Michael Porter Jr We’ll talk about that and every single move on today’s locked on NBA game night When that final buzzer rings you know it’s time for locked on NBA Game Night All the postgame reactions to every game across the league Every single night with insights only the We ain’t got time for the rest of that Welcome to Lockdown NBA game night My name is Nickstead host of Lockdown Mavericks Podcast part of the Lockdown Podcast Network your team every day Thanks for being in every day making Lockdown NBA your first listen Today’s episode is brought to you by FanDuel Right now new customers can get $150 in bonus bets if your first $5 bet wins And joining me as always from Lockdown Bucks What did you see in the NBA tonight Camille Davis
for the first 30 minutes nothing But then it picked up and it was like okay we back in business
And we got a lot to get into We’ll talk about the Rockets making some moves getting Dorian Finny Smith We’ll talk about the Grizzlies retaining some guys and adding some guys the Lakers What are what’s going on with the Lakers right now we’ll talk about We’ll try to get to every single move That’s the goal tonight is to get to every single one of them So let’s start here with the Denver Nuggets and the Brooklyn Nets They make a big trade Let’s hear from our guy Matt Moore from Locked on Nuggets
Michael Porter Jr to the Brooklyn Nets along with a 2032 first round pick for forward guard Cam Johnson I’m Matt Moore from Locked on Nuggets And the Denver Nuggets quiet off season has been anything but In the first 90 minutes of free agency the Denver Nuggets broke up the core four something that the front office and ownership had clearly stated they did not intend to do just a week ago by trading Michael Porter Jr to the Brooklyn Nets along with a 2032 first round pick for forward guard Cam Johnson The move not only gives the Nuggets a substantial upgrade on the wing providing them with a badly needed additional shooter on the wing that doesn’t come with MPJ’s suspect defense at times But it also clears 17 million off the books for the Denver Nuggets meaning they get access to a larger taxpayer exception That is a substantial move for them just to start with Just the money side is good Adding Johnson is the type of move that the Nuggets fans had really desired to break up the core four and not bring back the same group that had disappointed last season and frustrated both Noola Joic and fans and the front office that led to the firings of Calvin Booth and Michael Malone It’s a monumental move to Trey Porter who still had two years left on his remaining contract The Nets take on a very large contract for Porter who comes with a number of injury issues in his past but has managed to stay on the floor for the most part
The Denver Nuggets make this move and they’ve got some more moves to make They’ve opened up this $14 million t this you know mid-level exception And to me I think this is just the start for them
It absolutely is And what a start that it is I mean when you look at the NBA we talk about the parody era right now And the Nuggets are a team that went seven games with the Thunder so they should probably feel pretty good about the pieces they have And just looking around like how can we improve because we already are pretty close And trading MPJ for Cam Johnson is one of those moves where it’s like this makes a lot of sense And you bring back Bruce Brown You spin the block with Bruce Like I like this for Denver a lot
I liked it too Real quick who’s played more games over the last three seasons in the regular season michael Porter Jr or Cam Johnson my gut instinct would want to say Cam Johnson but I feel like it’s actually Michael Porter Jr has played more Michael Porter Jr 100 or 220 games over the last three seasons
Cam Johnson 157 See it’s part of that though because like the Nets are just like sit sit down like you we we don’t need you Part of it has to be cuz the Nets have have been doing that the last couple of years But I just they traded an injury-prone guy for an injury-prone guy I don’t think you could frame this as well they’re getting rid of the injury prone guy and now they’re bringing in somebody that’s just a guaranteed 70 80 games a year kind of deal I do like the move because it opens up more stuff for them And I think that’s the thing that makes it a win for Denver is that they’re opening something else and they can add somebody else They can bring somebody you know another another player in because they needed like two more guys right like you watched that series against the Thunder and we were doing the games on game night Like they just needed two more guys really and they could have beaten that Thunder team and maybe we’re talking about them winning their second title
Yeah maybe And this is the pathway to get there Like I don’t think that Bruce Brown alone is like one of those guys that you’re like “Hey this is going to really change things.” But I like that with getting Cam Johnson in there you don’t have like the unconscious shooting that Michael Porter Jr had But you have a guy who I think finishes better at the rim than Michael Porter Jr did And I know some people might think that’s an overpay for a Cam Johnson but I think slotting him in as your third fourth guy on a team with Joic and Murray and Gordon like it just fits so seamlessly And you’re looking at teams going forward now where you’re trying not to have that weak link and he just helps to strengthen that defense for the Nuggets So like Cam’s going to be a big get for them That’s a that’s a big pickup
Who are you looking for for them if you have if you had to pick somebody because I’m starting to look through and I’m like all right who who’s even left to even add with that 14 million like could they be a sneaky like eighton team they could be but here’s another one if you want to go a little bit cheaper I think like Yabooi like just another big that can do something different like I think that could be an interesting change of pace for the Nuggets too
Yaboo would be an interesting one like Junior’s out there
uh you’ve got
they could bring Tory Tory Craig back to to Denver they’ve got some they’ve got some random ones you could they need a guard Russell Westbrook is apparently maybe not coming back there and so Malcolm Brogden could they can you know could they convince Chris Paul um it’s interesting it’s interesting what they got over there and then maybe they could trade somebody could trade into that who know who knows we’ll see what happens with the Dund Nuggets but it does seem like they have something cooking I do think that they did well in this trade I also think that the Nets did well in this trade too because they got a pick from the Denver Nuggets the 2032 unprotected first round pick which is like seven years from now is Joic even going to be playing let’s hear from our guy Eric Slater of Locked on Nets finally move off of him and they get a pretty solid return in my opinion headline by that 2032 unprotected first round pick at which point Nicole Joic will be 36 years old in 2032 We have no idea what the Denver Nuggets will look like So the Nets reportedly wanted two first round picks for Cam Johnson at the deadline They don’t get two first round picks in this deal but I think a lot of people would say an unprotected 2032 first round pick from a Nugget team You have no idea what they’re going to look like at that point That’s the equivalent of what a lot of protected you know or first round picks from really good teams would have looked like at the deadline if you got multiple there So a really good pick package from the Nets So they take back Michael Porter Jr as a salary dump A player who while somewhat of a distressed asset right now has a lot of talent a really sizable career 40% three-point shooter on high volume He’ll get to cook with this Nets team They reportedly like him Jordi Fernandez has a connection dating back to his days as an assistant coach with the Nuggets They could move forward with him in their rebuild And if not in 2026 27 after this coming season he’ll be pretty much a $41 million trade exception that’ll be you know he’ll be expiring in that year So the Nets could look to use that with a lot of different ways on the trade market and you know if not it’ll expire and they’ll look to move forward in their rebuild that way So a really interesting deal an interesting one for the Nets Uh where do you see them sitting now because they they just have the most random pieces like they are island of misfit toys like out there in Brooklyn you know their draft they drafted a lot of guys who I would look at like okay these are playmakers They’re looking to set up the scorers Well they got a scorer over there in Brooklyn now Like MPJ is somebody who is going to be able to have a green light with a lot of guys setting them up Plus it helps them get closer to that salary floor of just making sure they’re spending enough money going into this season
Yeah that it’s an interesting one for the Nets I I think that we haven’t seen Michael Porter Jr just cook and maybe there’s a a good maybe there’s a good reason for that in in Denver but uh he has had a lot of experience obviously he’s a championship player and they trusted him they wanted to start there and he gives them some good size obviously some great shooting and the Nets are just like taking risks that’s what they’re doing right now they’re just in like let’s take risk mode let’s try stuff let’s draft five guys let’s draft four ball handlers like let’s try everything that we possibly can to see what works and just like shake all the dice in the can and roll it out and see what yatsi comes out of it right like I feel like that’s what they’re trying to do right out
Yeah pretty much When you can look at the rest of the landscape and we’ve seen a lot of teams now who are like “Hey let’s go for it.” The Nets are not one of those teams like right now they’re just like “You know what we’re going to kind of pace ourselves here See what these young guys can do Pay Michael Porter Jr for a bit and just continue to go from there.” So
the Nets they’re going to be one of those teams where if you’re still watching them in in March and April like you are a diehard Shout out to Eric Slater Locked on Nets your team every single day over there Uh yeah great trade there The Hawks also made a trade They get Nquil Alexander Walker Let’s hear from Brad Roland of Hawks
Alexander Walker coming to Atlanta from Minnesota in a signing trade The Hawks sending out a second round pick and some cash but for the most part just kind of adding Alexander Walker without too much pain Four years $62 million a player option The structure is still TBD as I record this but Atlanta adds a very good player on a very reasonable contract in the middle of his prime Alexander Walker has been durable the last couple years in Minnesota A good defender can shoot a little bit handle the ball a little bit The Hawks have some still some more needs after losing Carris Levert to Detroit and a relatively similar deal for two years But Alexander Walker is younger and certainly would have been I would say prioritized by the Hawks over Levert in this instance The Hawks have continued to have a very good offseason so far Adding Porzingis adding a kind of home run draft day trade to secure a big-time asset for the future adding a Senu and then now adding Alexander Walker with much more room to come It’s wild what the Hawks have turned into now How do you like this move for the Hawks
i love this move for the Hawks Like the Hawks even before this I was like “Hey they’re going to make some noise in the East this year.” And now you’re able to bring over Nikil Alexander Walker adding more length more defense around this team Like if you’re gonna build a team around Trey Young this is what it looks like It looks like a bunch of long athletic defenders who can run the floor You have a couple of guys you can trust to get their own shots right now with like Jaylen Johnson Like it’s they’re setting up to be a really fun team like a top four team in the East
They’ve got a lot of like good wing size right like Reese Shay Jaylen Johnson Nquil Alexander Walker now Dyson Daniels like even Vic Crerache is like a big guard you know you you’ve got a lot of size there and I I I like what they do there’s something I like I don’t know what they are but they got a lot of dudes now and it usually shakes out to be something pretty good especially in the Eastern Conference when a bunch of teams are gone they also added Luke Canard as well which I think is just another great shooter that they they needed now like they could have a ton of shooting you could put out a lineup of Trey Young Luke Canard Reese George Niang and Porzingis like that’s shooting at every single that’s five out as It was designed by like Mike Danton or whoever Exactly And then they can also go another way and bring out a lineup that’s like so much defense too because you got a Kongu as well as another back uh backline option for you that you can bring out there with Dyson with Alexander Walker with J It is the options that they have is what and what that’s what you want You want options and the Hawks are starting to get them
The Rockets also have a ton of options Let’s hear let’s let’s talk about the Rockets here coming up and what they did and a move they could make still We’ll talk about that more coming up Locked on NBA Game Night Today’s episode of Locked on NBA Game Night is brought to you by FanDuel FanDuel sports book has all kinds of props and odd things that you can use to get in on the action If you put down $5 as your first $5 bet right now you better know exactly what’s going to win because you could get $150 in bonus bets If that wins you can check out the conference The East is kind of interesting right now You’ve got Detroit or you’ve got They don’t have these in order It’s funny they put Detroit number one Uh these are not in order at all Uh the Knicks plus 280 Magic plus 390 on this Uh we’re just talking about the Hawks plus 950 to win the East So you put down 100 bucks and you win and the Hawks win the East you get 950 bucks on that one That one’s kind of interesting So check out all of them Uh the Hawks right now have better odds to win the East than the Celtics do I just want to make I just want to like put that out in the ether right now on FanDuel Go check out FanDuel All kinds of great stuff on there Not just NBA they have WNBA as well with my Dallas Wings and Paige Beckers WNBA all-star starter All kinds of great stuff Put down $5 you get $150 in bonus bets FanDuel official partner of the NBA Please gamble responsibly [Music] Thanks for hanging out with us on Unlock NBA Game Night Being part of the show listening every single day We’ve got a show that covers your favorite team Check the link in the description to find a show that covers your team every single day We’re trying to get to as many of these as possible The Houston Rockets they signed Jabari Smith Jr to a 5year $122 million extension They sign Stephen Adams So three year $39 million deal there They bring in Clink Capella Three years $21 million Fully guaranteed on that one for Clint Capella Dorian Vinnie Smith they bring over from the Lakers four years $53 million What do you think about what the Rockets are doing like adding the fact that they got Kevin Durant They’re going for it They’re going for it and they’re doing so in a way where I don’t think they’ve had to give give up too much along the way Um so for Houston a team that already finished second in the West last year right so it’s like well how much higher are you trying to climb like they’re trying to make sure that they’re a team that can be in the Western Conference Finals and hopefully in the NBA finals So I like what they’re building in Houston right now Like everyone knows the Thunder right now is that benchmark in the West and they’re trying to catch that and they’re going to be able to throw out some interesting combinations to combat what the Thunder can do on the court as well
The Capella deal doesn’t make a ton of sense to me right now Like they must have really liked that two big lineup and want to do that a lot right because three years 21 like you’re actually giving him real money Like that’s pretty decent money there and you already signed Stephen Adams three years 39 You got Shenon as your starting center You’d think that they would want to start Shangon Jabari Durant Aman Thompson Van Vleet right you think they wouldn’t want to start one of those centers And so now you got two backup centers Three years $60 million over like $20 million a year basically for those two guys over the next three years that that’s an investment that didn’t really make a ton of sense to me Well I mean having a three big like rotate like big big rotation makes a little bit of sense to me for them because too when you think about it Stephen Adams good year for the Rockets last year but some injury concerns a little bit with him at the moment Um and Capella at this stage not the guy you saw early in his career in Houston or the guy that you saw in Atlanta but like a change of pace big that you can throw off the you know off the bench I think that’s a good role for him Now the price you might say is a little high for him to play this role of like hey just a change of pace big but uh with a team like Houston that’s really going all in for this season I can see them taking that chance of like listen we don’t really care what it costs this year We gonna try to go for it
Let’s be clear I’m all for the multiple bigs thing as the guy that covers the Dallas Mavericks who have Derek Lively Gaffford and and Anthony Davis right like let’s be clear I’m for it
You guys trade for LeBron
i just don’t think that Capella is is the is like on the level of all those other guys And for them to give him a multipleear deal fully guaranteed like that is weird I love them getting Dorian Finny Smith I think he fills in where Dylan Brooks left and uh I think he’s just he’s a great locker room guy I’ve always loved Dorian since his time in Dallas And you could throw out some really good defensive lineups for them too You got Amond Thompson Tar East Dorian Finny Smith Like they they’ve got some they got some defenders now that you could throw multiple different looks if you’re the Rockets
I’ll say this too for the contract It’s tradable like Dorian or
no uh Clint Capellis like it’s it’s it’s in a tradable range We’re about $7 million annually if you’re trying to look to cobble together some things and of course have to see where they are with their cap situation after all these moves that they’re making but it’s nice to have those more manageable contracts to break up or use in trades if need be
The Memphis Grizzlies have been doing some stuff Let’s hear from Michael Cole of Lockdown Grizzlies about what the Grizzlies are cooking up today The Grizzlies are moving fast They ain’t wasting no time The Grizzlies have made their moves Number one the number one priority is done The Grizzlies have reportedly agreed to a new extension with Jiren Jackson Jr a franchise record extension worth 5 years $240 million The Grizz said all season all off all off all off all off all off all off all off all off all off all off all off all season Resigning Jiren Jackson Jr is priority number one Now that they got that done everything else start to fall in place Cole Anthony expected to be bought out Santi Alama has also agreed to a three-year contract extension as well And other pieces are starting to fall in place Cam Spencer Ty Jerome all on the Memphis Grizzlies Look it’s a lot but the Grizzlies have had conviction since the season ended on where they want to go from here These moves are proof that the Grizzlies are making those moves and they’re showing you the direction that this team is going in moving forward
Camille tell me the direction they’re going in cuz I don’t know that I know it you Here’s what I’ll say about what the Grizzlies are putting together They got some they got some dogs over there which is a term that’s probably being used a little too much now NBA lexagon but the locker room culture that they’re building over there makes a lot of sense Um I love the fact that Cam Spencer is a guy who’s been able to play himself from a two-way into an actual you know roster spot for him I like the Tai Jerome signing I like them being able to retain Jiren Jackson Jr So it seems like a team that’s trying to reconfigure how they build around just having two main guys instead of three with Desmond Bane as well
Yeah it’s like they added some more like they try to add some more depth They turned Desmond Bane into more depth but I didn’t think the depth was their problem especially the last couple of years Unless you can count just how many injuries they’ve had and they’ve got they’ve gotten lucky with that their depth has been able to cover for some of that But I don’t think that they got top end better with with what they’ve they’ve done here And I’m does seem like they’re kind of between All right Are we contending right now are we building for the future i don’t I don’t know with the with the Grizzlies right now Like I don’t know where to place them in the in the West standings Like if I was just going to predict who was going to finish where in the West like I’m not really sure where I’m putting the Grizzlies but I think individually I liked all the stuff that they did I just don’t know long term Like I didn’t think I understood what Demike was saying of like this is the direction Like I don’t I don’t know what the direction is there
Oh they’re going to hope that Cedric Coward too is somebody who can pop for them too on the wing Like again if they can get
time like is he have time
shoot He gonna have to make He going to have to have time He going to have to come and show something quick
Bring all these guys back The Lakers are not bringing some guys back because they lose Dory Vinnie Smith and but they do sign Jake Larabia to a two-year $12 million deal Right now I think the starting five is Luca Austin Reeves LeBron who picked up his one-year deal and has sending subliminal messages and maybe not subliminal everywhere Ruy Hachimura and then probably Maxi Klea as the starting center and the bench is has Vando Jake Larivia Dalton Connect Gabe Vincent Abdu Thiero like I’m not feeling good about this Lakers team They’ve gotten worse so far They had a problem last year of needing a big and the problem has gotten worse because Jake Laravia like I I do think that he offers you something defensively but not in the same way that Dorian Finley Smith like DFS was a small ball four if need be and I don’t see that same role for Jake uh Labraia So they need a big like all the DeAndre Aton stuff like that’s someone who like the Lakers need at this point with Brook Lopez with the Clippers Clint Capella with the Houston like they need a big in the worst way
Absolutely Luka and Luca needs that lob threat type guy They just really they had it with Jackson Hayes I guess but I don’t know if Jackson Hayes is your answer Like I think Lakers fans are done with that whole thing It’s just interesting where the Lakers Lakers are now It doesn’t feel like they’re done They’ve opened up their their tax level mid-level exception as well with Dorian Smith leaving And so there’s still a lot to shake out there But right now like I’m not I’m not seeing the Lakers getting any better right now And I think LeBron is right to be like “Hey like guys we we should get better here.” Uh especially if that rumor is right about Rob Pelinka like like saying Dorian’s ankle or Dorian’s knee is cooked and uh and that that’s why and they wanted to like lower his asking price down according to Anthony Irwin our old friend from Lockdown Lakers
Like if that’s true that’s dirty work Like that’s that’s some dirt work from Rob in that front office over there Like y’all can’t be evaluated for 10 billion dollars and then go around conducting y’allselves like this Like that’s just low
And Luca is like me We love ourselves some Dorian Finny Smith He loved him Was one of his favorite teammates with the Laker with the Mavs and and then again with the Lakers So that one’s that’s one I’d watch out for I would also watch out for every single other move that happened tonight We’re going to get into them and try to get through as many as we possibly can coming up Locked on NBA game night continues coming up next Big I think a lot I’m very smart
Take that for that
Count it up it up Count it up
It’s counted up We’re counting the most interesting fun deals in the NBA We’re going to talk about as many as we possibly can get to We’re going to do yeah or no That’s what we’re going to do You just give me a yeah you liked it Nah you didn’t like it And then and why on these the Phoenix Suns are looking to sign Deon Booker to a two-year $150 million max extension Yeah Yeah Yeah We went that Nah it’s too much It’s too much Two years$1 150 million You’re going I’m going $75 million a year for Devin Booker
Listen listen This is where the direction these contracts are going If he is going to be their franchise cornerstone
but is he
well if they pay him that much he is
He didn’t He didn’t play like it last year
I feel like he was in a a tough spot last year with the KD situation and Bradley building whatever he was doing
The KD situation was him playing great Yes But the role was different for him now having
Katie having to share the court with Kate Like his role was different than the Devin Booker we saw like when they went to the finals four years ago
Okay So now adding Dylan Brooks is he’s going to fix everything for you
Just play some defense and let me shoot Boy
he’s going to shoot for sure on this team Uh very different Phoenix team we’re going to see next season The Clippers they add Brook Lopez Two years $18 million Yeah I like that I like that Brook Lopez is no longer a starting center Uh going to the Clippers where they have better point of attack defenders to help him out as he has aged and got a little bit slower should be a big positive for that Clippers team
Yeah I’m I’mma Yeah it adds another like it adds a shooting element at the big that they have not had maybe ever in that spot and I think that’s a good one for them The New York Knicks are reportedly according to Chris Haynes going to bring in Jordan Clarkson Yeah Yeah you know more shooting him and him and Deuce can you know do their thing on the second unit It’s cool
Yeah I’m I’m right there too Like yeah I’m I’m actually like yeah bing bong I think that they’re going to embrace him a lot in New York especially if he goes off and has like some 30-point games I think they’re going to be the Knicks fans are going to be like unnecessarily excited about Jordan Clarkson even if I don’t know that he makes their team that that much better but he’s going to get some buckets that’s for sure
Mhm Speaking of getting buckets the Dallas Mavericks D’Angelo Russell agreed to a 2-year $13 million deal with second year as a player option Yeah for that amount that’s a that’s a great deal for that amount Now if it was any more like if you were talking some different dollar figures there
wouldn’t be as big of a fan but for that amount yes Especially with Kyrie’s injury
I’m at a yeah for this too I’m at a yeah but like the Mavs need to do more if they want to be a title contender Like this is doesn’t solidify it for him He’s got to fill in for Kyrie Irving but he has to fill in for Kyrie Irving Like he’ll play 50 games in this bigger role and then he’ll reduce down to a smaller role that I think will be really good He’s got good chemistry with Anthony Davis He’s a good catch and shoot guy He did not have a good season last year and you hope that that was an outlier year for him And so that’s what I think you’re hoping with D’Angelo Russell but I think it’s a solid move for the Mavericks and uh it was like the least surprising thing the Mavs have ever done because we talked about it for like two weeks It felt like the Detroit Pistons did a move that Cookah Hill did not like at all Caris Levert two years 29 million and they’re losing Dennis Shruder most likely Yeah Like it’s like he had to do something right Not as high of hopes or a move that I think that you were hoping before free agency began but he does some things that you need He can shoot not as well as Beasley but he has more playmaking to his game Can defend a little bit like yeah it’ll do I I want to go with Coup Coup is not high on this at all locked on Pistons host He is up very upset He’s very upset about this deal But I think they needed another bucket getter right like they needed somebody else And
I think they’re replacing Tim Hardway Jr with Caris Levert The Mavs literally tried to do that last year They tried to trade Tim Hardway Jr to the Cavs for Caris Levert Like they literally tried to do that So I think I think I’m for it Coup I’m sorry
Yeah And especially if they get Duncan Robinson too Like then it changes the equation a little bit
It does They’re getting bucket getters Uh there’s a rumor about them getting Malik Monk as well Yeah that that could change a lot for him The San Antonio Spurs signed Luke Cornet to a 4-year $41 million deal for the Cornet contest Yes Like because look last year they found some success with Wim playing the five but ultimately we know Wimi prefers to be a four So like at least you can play Cornet next to Wimi But like I guess so like it it doesn’t move me one way or another too much But I get the idea behind it
Why does this feel like they just did like Zack Collins but like a different way
a remix version Like
a different genre A different genre of Zack Collins They’re just trying it again
It seems like a lot of money for Luke Cornet to me
Little it’s a little pricey
10 million a year I know they got all these guys on rookie deals so they’re not really worried about money right now So it’s pro it’s probably fine But initial sticker shock to me was like nah that’s what that’s where I was with this According to Fred Catz the uh Sacramento Kings somehow through some kind of signing trade potentially or even just signing him are going to get Dennis Shruder No I I don’t know what they’re doing in Sacramento Like I know they need a guard I know Westbrook’s also rumining to go there but like this just doesn’t make sense Like what is this team ceiling what are what are they trying to do here i I don’t see the vision for the Kings Um yeah for Dennis Shruder I’m nah for the Sacramento Kings because of because of that Dennis Shruder gets paid Good for him He’s gonna get the ball a lot Like that It’s gonna help because they don’t have any guards They went from Tyrese Hallebertton and and Darren Fox to no guards now Um and like yeah they’re just going to be the like fighting for a playin spot if if that in the West And fine like like okay like Yeah Yeah Yeah
It’s kind of where I am with them
Just the team itself I just I don’t know about Sacramento right now Speaking of a team I don’t know about right now the New Orleans Pelicans Cavon Looney Two years $16 million Yeah for Cavon I’m always going to support him getting the bag Shout out to Kavon Looney 414 Milwaukee guy right there Represent Born and raised here So shout out to him for getting the bag But what are the Pelicans doing truly that’s been my question for like the last week What are they doing it’s like they only want smaller centers They got Eve me who’s like 6’10 They’ve got Kavon Looney now who’s like a 6’8 69 like on a good on a good day Got Zion who’s played some center sometimes I I don’t that team is seems like they should be doing a rebuild but they just traded their pick next year and it’s like adding another big that can’t shoot too Like there I I just I don’t understand the spacing that’s going to be on the floor Like it just doesn’t make sense And New Orleans seems to be a team that thinks a lot highly higher of themselves than I do
At least they got a center I’ll say that about the Pelicans because last year at this time we were like it’s Daniel Ty or or or bust Like that’s where we were with them last year at this time So I guess it’ll make a little more sense now I’ll give that to the Pelicans Your Milwaukee Bucks Kevin Porter Jr two years 11 million Gary Trent Jr two years 7.5 million And then you lose Brooke Lopez Yeah It’s a new time It’s a new era I’m hoping this means no more drop coverage for the Bucks but to get Gary Trent Jr for 7.5 million over two years like the Bucks still have a lot of that MLE open to make another move And you got Kevin Porter Jr back when Dame’s going to be out You have your back court for this team a back court that you saw worked well with Giannis being the initiator So I’m here for it
You said it was a new era and they’re just bringing guys back that they already have
A new play style Nick A new play style It’s going the offense is going to look different The defense will look different with the same pieces Putting a lot of trust in Doc Rivers here So
pray for us D can you run that last part back
we’re That’s Doc Rivers has to pull the right levers Just listen Just pray for the Pray for Bucks fans All right
Pray
You were in the hospital last week I have never felt worse for you than that sentence that you just you just said just now My sympathy goes deeper on this statement than it does for when you’re in the hospital
Man a lot of faith in Doc Rivers doing the right things I don’t even know if we can move on from that The Chicago Bulls Trey Jones three years $24 million deal to go back to the Chicago Bulls Yeah Okay All right Like he’s a good point guard He does a lot of things well like his brother does as well But again Chicago is a team that played fast last year You need a guard that can take care of the ball He does that for you Um I just don’t think it changes like their ceiling too much But it’s pretty good
I want to compare this one to Taius Jones his brother who a lot of people thought was better Only got one year $7 million from Orlando So the the younger brother got more than the older brother I think for Ty it’s because uh one going to a situation with the Magic where it’s more of a contending situation take a little bit of a hit and things did not go well in Phoenix last year So you take a little hit from from that performance unfortunately even though the team itself just kind of imploded down the stretch there
Yeah Couple couple interesting guard moves The Brooklyn Nets Dron Sharp two years$12 million deal and the trade for Michael Porter Jr Okay Sure Yeah sure Sure Jan We talked about the We talked about what the Nets are doing Like sure it it works Go ahead All right Have fun
Did not expect a Brady Bunch reference Uh the Philadelphia 76ers Trending Watford Nah I’m not as big of a fan of that because to me this signals to like Yabuselli is gone
Yeah
Um and Watford has a lot of strength Swiss Army knife but like shooting is not one of his strengths uh the spacing of it but Swiss Army knife it’s cool but I think I’d rather have Yahoo Sell even though he’s going to be a bit more expensive
The Boston Celtics get Luca Luca Garza two years $5.5 million They’re losing obviously Drew Holiday Coral Porzingis and they lose Luke Cornet The Boston Celtics Nah like I know that they’ve had interest in Luca for a while so like he’s finally there Um he’s still a young player There’s still some room but like it seems like the Celtics are just taking this year off a little bit Just we’re going to be good enough but nothing really to expect here which is so different from what we’ve expected from Boston over the last few years
The Boston Celtics are that girl from White Lotus that went to that that went to that Buddhist temple and was like I’m going to take a gap year and just spend my year at this Buddhist temple and I’m just going to hang out and I’m going to get in touch with my spiritual side And then she spends the night there one night and realizes that it doesn’t have any of the luxuries of home and she hates it and she ends up going back to her family and is upset with herself and decides that she does not want to be what she thought she wanted to be and completely lied to herself about herself for so many years about how she was different than her family And I think the Boston going to go through that this year with all the moves they’ve made and got rid of so many players
What an analogy Like there’s nothing to add to that one That’s beautiful just proud of us for making it to the end of this show with all the technical issues we had through throughout it
I don’t even know
We I started this show six times So that’s why we’re a little loopy at the end of this But we got through all the we got through all of them We got through every single move that happened at least the ones that were uh reported unofficially official Go check out Lockdown NBA daily with Matt Moore Hayes and Doug Great stuff happening there all the time Locked on Bucks with Camille and Justin Great stuff Locked on Mavs with me and Isaac Go check out those shows Thanks much listen to lockdown NBA

  1. As a rockets fan to answer your question Nick we brought Capela back because he going to come in and take over whenever we rest Steven Adams.

Due to Steven Adams history with injuries we want to keep him as fresh and healthy as possible for the playoffs

Also Capela contract is something we can move if we want to get somebody either in the deadline or for a move down the line

  2. “The Nets have been doing this the last couple years” … yes because they wanted to gift the Rockets a top 3 pick in 2024 😂😂
