what a start
hey you’re on sports welcome on a Monday June 30th nba free
has been going for two hours two hours the Pistons have already made a move we’ll be covering hopefully there’s more moves live we can react to we’ll have Eric on later
from clutch points.com you guys know Eric Vincent will be joining the show things are happening right now fellas this is like the free agency period for all sports teams and we went through it with the Lions too but it’s the period where you get better all right and there’s already after 6 PM Shams or Shams is you know I’m getting notifications every 5 seconds of everyone flying around the league and we finally get Caris Levert which we’ll talk about we’ll talk about the Malik Beasley stuff that was crazy by the way a whole another thing we’ll get to that insane man fellas we’re in the midst of it all right now that I thought you were gonna ask a question man hey yeah we are in the midst of it all i’ll tell you what it’s been a crazy couple hours here um I’m honestly I did tweet out too um by the way I hope everyone had a great weekend clutch love to see you back jeff hope you had a great weekend you look tan um I’m no longer red anymore as Yes last week I was uh
Mr krabs off compared to what I was last week i look like Mr krabs
yeah it was bad it was
But no yeah I’m juiced up um with the Pistons i I I put out one of the tweet i feel like it’s like every free agency with Troy Weaver or just offseason with Troy Weaver with that meme that’s like poking like with the stick and like do something
do something
i put that out and and you I’m used to putting it out with Troy Weaver and Troy Weaver just not doing anything he may be doing something but nothing that like worthwhile or impactful and uh I put it out and within 30 minutes Troy or not Troy Weaver Trayon Lightning makes move or makes two moves actually so um hey things are happening i I don’t know if we feel good or bad about it i’m kind of indifferent i I I don’t know but I’m just pumped up that we’re finally like there’s something exciting to talk about and like free a NBA free agency is electric
and it’s going for a reason i mean we going into this year the Pistons were still like projected to they weren’t going to be the worst team in the NBA but you thought they were probably going to be what like bottom five six in the East around there to go and make the playoffs make some noise don’t win a series and now this is the off seasonason where it’s like okay next step and to your point Boon seen Tan actually being active even though it’s not for the bigname players you see him getting players that you heard of before for one and have played some good basketball so I like it yeah Bball Ball Paul is back in Detroit it’s a two-year deal
paul Reed resigns i think the second year isn’t guaranteed i’m not exactly sure how it’s constructed uh I think I saw some people Amari Sinkova kind of broke it down a little bit but overall he is back so they they resign him he’s a solid backup big you know it’s like
they need depth at the
at least just to have on in the on the bench you know if even if he doesn’t play and they get someone else who’s better it’s still nice to have him around i guess it doesn’t really matter the big one though that just happened shout out Bball Paul but the big one that did happen is the former Michigan man that is back in Detroit he is uh one of the better sixmans in the NBA to be honest with you and that is Caris Levert uh who has been on a couple couple different teams he was he’s been on the Nets the Cavs the Pacers he was most recently on the Atlanta Hawks where he actually played pretty well through a stretch of games he played 26 games and uh because he split the season with the Cavs and the Hawks he played 26 games for the Hawks he averaged 15 points uh four rebounds three assists shot 48% from the field 33 from three but for his career he’s about a 34 35% shooter from three i’ll say this about Caris man and I know we were kind of talking about it Boon a little before the show the Malik Beasley stuff happened it was unfortunate they had a deal in place it was a three-year 424 $43 million deal you had to pivot after that and you had to find someone that can kind of bolster this bench unit and they got someone that isn’t the catch andoot guy obviously like Malik Beasley they’ll probably sign a shooter watch just wait there’s they’re they’re not done but what Caris LeVert brings is uh someone who can score points off your bench and he’s a shot creator he’s a shot maker and that’s kind of what he’s been in the league for a while so it’s a short-term deal but again it’s it’s a move that
they were looking at Nquille Alexander Walker he’s another one he can shoot the three but he’s kind of the same kind of role you’re looking for that Beasley role um and he he kind of brings a little bit other things but Carris Levert guys I really like the signing i mean this is what you need especially come to postseason time you need guys that can come off the bench and score buckets and he does that and if you need him to start in a pinch he’s capable of doing that so
I expect him to add more shooting but just from the just evaluating the player I love the Caris Liver signing i think it’s
I think one one thing too I think people forget a little bit i don’t know if you guys felt the same way but watching the Pistons down the stretch um there were moments when Kad’s not scoring or someone else isn’t scoring yeah you had Beasley here and there but there were definitely moments it feels like it’s especially with no Jane Ivy where you’re like who’s going to get the next bucket and and there were times Kade off the floor you’re like all right who’s your playmaker who who’s going to go out there and make plays tobias stepped up at times um in the playoffs um but I think like I think we all would agree like hey you need some more you know basically just bucket getters on this team um that can go get you a bucket when needed that’s to me what Caris is um at the end of the day I know people are like “Oh the injury this that.” I mean the guy in the last three seasons he’s played 60 plus games every year i know that’s not like like you want guys to play every game but you’re talking about okay 60 out of 82 games if you get that out of him and he’s healthy for the playoffs I would say that’s a win uh deal in the next two years and the last three years he has had throughout his career boys like he’s averaged 17 18 the last couple years he’s been in role situations and he’s averaged 12 to like 15 points in those roles so it’s not a guy who’s going to come in and like he knows what his role is like he’s probably going to end up being your six-man man a guy off the bench a potential starter here and there if you need it um and he’s hopefully gets you a spark of scoring off the bench obviously we all know it’s not the shooter that Malik Beasley was but I still think in this free agency period you can go out and go get another shooter i I I think if at least in my opinion like Trejan should not be done i think you The Paul Reed one I’m not going to lie I don’t hate it i was I’m I’m more and this might be a this might be a personal thing this might be a very different opinion i don’t like the Paul Reed signing more than the Caris Levert one like I would have rather gone out and got a better backup big personally like I would have not even I would have rather just go upgrade at that position uh potentially behind Jaylen Duran or Isaiah Stewart in case one of those guys go down um over again I like the Caris Levert signing more than the Paul Reed one and I love Paul Reed bball Paul we all love Detroit but I just think like hey you need scoring um you need a shooter and I think you need a kind of a little bit of an upgrade in my opin opinion potentially in that kind of big position so I I don’t know i like the Caris Levert thing if you don’t like it I would love to hear why i guess I got to read some of the chats to see if there’s something
I because I didn’t see too much on social media before we got on the show about why people don’t like it because at least for me recently when I think of Caris Levert I think of the Draymond thing where it’s like calm down bro like you’ve been traded 27 times over the past couple years but then you think about Levert and where has Carris Levert been bad at and he hasn’t he hasn’t been an all-star he hasn’t been some player that’s shocking the country when you look at what he’s doing on the basketball court but even Schroeder he’s expected to sign with Sacramento and that’s somebody especially with Malik Beasley with this we’ll break it down more with that looming over your head the back court off the bench last year was Schroeder and Beasley and now if you’re not going to have either of those guys back you need somebody who’s a shot creator because to Jeff to what you were saying Jeff earlier and even you Boom like after Cade you do need somebody off that bench to run everybody through the floor because they don’t have a primary ball handler coming off the bench or at least a threat really off the bench anymore and Caris can go get you a bucket and when it comes to Paul I I get what you’re saying Boon and I’m not going to be like how do you not like the Paul i just think at the end of the day they know what he is defensively and they need help defensively offensively I couldn’t agree with you more because when Paul Reed tried getting in his back offensively everything just falls apart most of the time now there’s those times you’re like “Hey Paul putting it together there was a couple times where you get a block or a steal make a play on the defensive end and then he’s trying to run transition it’s like Paul that’s not your role man.” And it would just turn into timely plays where now the Knicks are getting the ball going the other way and it’s a quick two so if he can just learn to just know his role play defense hopefully he’s the fourth big i I do agree with you offensively though they need somebody to stretch the floor more than what they have especially I don’t know how you could take yourself seriously as NBA Finals contenders not saying that’s what they need to be this year but you need a big to stretch the floor in the modern day NBA they just don’t have that because if you’re just going to have Kade and Ivy running that back court you need somebody to
The problem is is like there are other there are other players of free agency that are sign like it’s it’s going quick i do I do understand people in the chat bring up the point like like Dennis Schroeder is going to sign somewhere else uh Beasley this situation going on with him is going to the Kings yeah so like like but like to me like Stephen David or Stephen David in the chat like saying like you’re losing out on you could have not gotten Caris Levert and been sitting here with no one so if you’re complaining about Caris Levert and those guys are signing somewhere else clearly something happened within obviously the last 48 hours with Malik Beasley situation going on which we’ll get into in a little bit and then obviously things falling apart with the Dennis Schroeder contract and not being able to come together on an agreement with Dennis Schroeder to where did you want Trejan to sit on his hands and not make a move no that man went out there and said “Okay who else can we get?” And obviously he was able to go out and get a guy like Carris Levert now if you’re going to complain about Carris Levert over Dennis Schroeder and Malik Beasley what position was Trejan in realistically like like he pro in my opinion if he didn’t get Schroeder he just probably didn’t like the money or he was like Schroeder never wanted to come back in the first place so I don’t think it would I think if Trejan could have done it I think he would have but I think this whole uh Caris Levert like people hating it you should love it like you just added another scorer on this team and another shooter you saw the Thunder the the Oklahoma City Thunder literally did not have one player shooting under like 36 or 35% outside of their big man last season in the playoffs so you just added another 37% three-point shooter like you’re adding shooting and scoring whether he injured or not he’s going to most likely give you 60 plus games which he has the last three years and he’s going to go out there and get you 12 plus points per game to me that’s a great sign like you’re not I I get it there’s other guys out there but in Shift God like you’re not replacing me i agree i still think you go out there and you have to get another shooter to replace Beasley
but there’s shooters available that’s like people I’m sorry guys like people are being whin like you guys are whining i’m sorry and usually I I am pretty good about trying to hear both sides i don’t think there’s really a both sides of this thing it’s like okay Beasley screwed himself so let’s just get that straight all right it’s no one’s fault but Beasley’s that uh he is innocent till proven guilty but he’s still an idiot uh then you pivot to Carris Levert carris Levert’s an excellent signing you paid him what is it 14.5 million dollars dude he’s a uh 12 four and four guy and he could start if you need him to he’s a like I went through everything that he he brings to the table it’s really valuable i don’t know I don’t know why anybody would not like that signing if you don’t like that signing you’re a [ __ ] psycho because that signing he’s he’s a he’s a solid bench player actually a very good bench player i would even argue at his best a sixman of the year type of player um so again it doesn’t make any sense to me and the other point I’d bring up is the shooting guys there’s they’re shooting out there they’re shooting out there luke Canard still a free agent duncan Robinson still a free agent like are you guys Come on dude what are we pitching i listen that’s the thing is I it’s it’s one of those things it’s like
wait until the until tre like if we get like in a couple weeks and we’re sitting here and it’s just Caris Levert and Paul Reed okay there’s a conversation to be had at that point like if they don’t get another point guard or ball hand like okay but you’re two hours into free agency and you just I get it there are names coming off the board very quick very quick but you got to understand you weren’t going to get everyone one that you wanted like every single free agent that we talked about that everyone around Pistons Twitter and the world is being like we want this guy we want this guy you know the chances to be able to get every single prospect and and person that you want to get like it just won’t happen so um I I don’t know i I think I love the Caris Levert signing i really do i think it’s a perfect fit and give it a couple weeks let’s see if they go Imagine if this Imagine you add a Duncan Robinson a shooter imagine if you go out there and and can I give out my the someone that I like Jeff that I told you about earlier
mhm there’s a backup point guard someone that can come off the bench sitting in Memphis right now i got an alert about an hour and a half ago that says that they’re looking for a potential trade partner for this player go get Cole Anthony bring Cole Anthony into the Detroit Pistons and that’s your ball handler behind behind Kate Cunningham coming off the bench since Dennis Schroeder is gone yes he might not this don’t look at the stats they might not line up perfectly but you’re talking about a guy who is a very good ball player needs to get into a position to where he can help win and get into that role go get Cole Anthony you add uh Caris Levert keep Paul Reed around go get Duncan Robinson and if somehow Malik Beasley gets over this stuff I don’t know what happens with that but man go to me that’s perfect go get Cole Anthony and add another shooter and then that’s a good that’s a good free agency uh period in my opinion yeah there’s there’s shooting still available i mean you have I mentioned too Seth Curry another one i just saw another one uh Seth Curry’s 34 but still we’re looking for shooting right there’s shooting available
and the thing that people jump to fans do and I’ I’ve noticed this and I understand people want to jump to and find a way to complain about things but the reality is guys you we’re only seeing who they’ve signed we we’re not seeing unless it’s reported who they who Trejan has spoken to like I’m sure he’s spoken to a bunch of guys and they couldn’t get deals done like the Dennis Shruder thing i think Trejan wanted him back i do i just think it came down to the dollar amount which is fair and you basically paid Carris Levert 14 and a half i’m sure Dennis wanted around that money and if I’m being honest I’d rather have Caris Levert than Dennis Ruder like Caris Levert is a better basketball player than Dennis Shruder and I love Dennis Shruder i think he’s a very solid point guard i think he’s a I think most winning teams should want him on their roster but Carris Levert I like it i really do um so I I like what the Pistons are doing so far honestly
if you do break down the Caris Levert Dennis Shooter thing it’s like all right did you want a point guard or do you want a wing a wing scoreer you know what I mean like that’s how I look at it it’s like what was your
It doesn’t have to be just free for agency they can still make trades you Yeah they could still make plays and they’re both like like Carris is a better three-point shooter than Dennis or than uh gave him he was 37% 37% last year and he’s he’s a different player than Malik Beasley like he’s not a you know catch and shoot you know type of guy he could do it but it’s not like that i mean Malik was one of the best three point shooters in the league but he can shoot off the dribble he can create his own shot
he he can go get a bucket you know if you’re in a game where you’re late in the fourth quarter and Caris Levert’s out there and Kade is is getting trapped and double teams Caris Levert can say “Give me the rock i’m going to score a bucket you know I can get this.” Usually Malik will you know run around screens and and chuck up shots and they usually do go in but Carris will do it differently you’re missing the 14 points that Malik got you you’re getting 14 back from Caris it’s just going to come differently you know what I’m saying it’s just they got to still address the shooting but they will don’t worry they will trey Jen they just drafted a shooter clearly he has shooting out his mind clearly they value spacing like let this thing cook
you got to let it play out you You really do this is such a long free agent period i think it’s just because like in the first couple hours things happen very fast there are a million and and it feels crazy because names fall off the board quick like like uh Nquille Alexander Walker just went to the uh he’s got four for 62
the Atlanta Hawks yeah so like you see a guy like him getting the money and you’re like “Well the Pistons could have done that.” The Pistons had the most money we’re second most in the offseason man you just listen Tayan obviously didn’t like the money or he didn’t like the deal and he said “Okay not a fit let’s move on let’s figure this out and you go get Caris you’re kind of move.” So you just got to let this whole thing play out in my opinion i’m glad honestly I thought there was going to be a world where the Pistons just sat Pat resigned Malik Beasley resigned uh Dennis Schroeder and didn’t make a move the fact they already went after Caris Levert to me I’m like I’m pumped like that shows me Trejan’s out there actually working that that’s what it shows me and that’s all I wanted to see out of Trejan Langden if I’m being completely honest i just wanted to make sure tap on the window hey we doing something in there and we alive and the dude’s alive and he’s make typa it’s like Troy no movement in there or if it’s movement it’s like the worst movement of all time you’re like what are we doing here yeah and I know like Shift God and I’m I’m sure he’s probably there’s fans that are just like Shift God that probably feel the same way is like this they expect this big move i give me the move man you know what I mean what move what move like Kevin Durant’s gone giannis probably isn’t getting traded so what’s the move like are we just yelling at We’re yelling at the sky like what are we doing
oh man oh get off my lawn
i’m just saying it’s offensive shiv ship God you’re my guy but what what are we talking about like everyone else in the east is getting better the Pistons just got Carris Levert they’re trying to replace Malik they’re not done i don’t know what else you What do you want you know what I mean what do you want what do you want jiren Jackson Jr i was on board with it he resigned okay cross that out
can Can I just name this team real quick actually no I don’t want to do because Yeah I see what you’re saying Jeeoff i just I’m looking at this Atlanta Hawks team what they did and listen I don’t think it’s I think like other teams still have to catch up to the Pistons like the Hawks didn’t make the playoffs they have to make moves to take that step the Pistons took the step this year they don’t need to make the biggest splash moves like let this thing play out a little bit
um but the Hawks do have they they’ve put together a pretty good team this offseason i’ll say that i just read their
Hawks
they they got kind of name it real quick just so people understand
i’m interested yeah because I I’ve never been a Hawks fan go beyond Boon if I need to be
trey Trey Young obviously
okay
okay added Christophs Porzingis that doesn’t move me
dyson Daniels
well I like Dyson i do like Dyson
zachary Zachariah Rousashar Reese yeah he’s good he’s the rookie he was a second year now he’s going into his second year
jaylen Johnson okay a Kongwoo and Nick Alexander Walker
it’s I don’t I don’t hate that yeah for what they’ve been going through man and they’ve been like the 11 12th seat the fact that
I don’t know why I was expecting like I was expecting
you know what that’s on me i just read it and I went hey this is a I guess it’s a different look so it really kind of threw me off a little bit all right
yeah you know because they they they let go of Clint Capella and they got they basically just replaced him with Porzingis and Porzingis is I’ve never been a big Porzingis guy
but Capella just went to the the Houston Rockets
he went back there he’s like the Kurt Cousins of the NBA I feel like where he’s just extremely like bland you know what he’s good at he’s not growing all and he just finds a way to keep getting bag after bag after bag i feel like
Yeah
I do think one thing I’ll say this boys I do think the Pistons need to get another point guard coming off the bench taius Jones just went to the Suns or no he left the Suns to go to the Magic one year 7 million
campaign still available
uh I’m not 100% sure
i would want someone a little bit better than campaign to be honest i I would I would hyping campaign up in the yard
no I like C I think campaign and when he was with the Suns like that was electric um I just would like a a nice point guard coming off the the bench
i’m with you though you need somebody else in that back court
because you had Dennis Schroeder now it’s to me it’s a better coming off
you want someone that like a veteran ball handler
alfred Payton can I interest you in
who
alfred Payeyton free agent
oh my
yeah he actually he was a Piston wasn’t he yeah he
I think he was for a little bit I don’t know i don’t know if he looks like he never played there i’m I’m I think I’m
Yeah no was he a Piston
kyle Lowry spencer Denwitty
i’m out on Alfred Payeyton
spencer Denwitty
i heard
wasn’t he
where yeah but I think these are I’m out on these are guys that are just like to me you know you know I say
I think he’s in the league anymore he’s playing overseas you know what they need uh legend
they try to paint him as a villain
yeah yeah yeah um you know what they do need to what Brun is saying is they do need kind of a Schroeder type of player where it’s just like I high IQ make others better like Tyus Jones is usually that’s the guy i know he just signed somewhere but I agree with that they need shooting you prefer they get a better big backup big but again we’re talking about a bench unit here you know I don’t what
I have breaking news
what is the breaking news
it’s not Pistons related
okay well what is it
the Detroit Red Wings have resigned Patrick Kane to a one-year $3 million deal
I don’t give a
because Patrick Kane come on put a little bit of respect I love Patrick Kane but that
can here last year
he was Patrick Kane’s a piece you need come on now let’s have a little
respect
let’s not act like we Let’s not act dumb now
we need to get better that’s what they need to do
but But you to get better you still you can’t lose out on guys let’s not be Come on now come on now
yeah i’m not [Music] I’m more so a piss I’m pissing stall poor Patrick class allow that and Marcus Sasser by the way they he ain’t the backup point guard solution and I I love I love uh I love Marcus Sasser
he’s a he’s a bucket getter but he’s not he he ain’t that type of he’s not
he’s not all around i feel like he’s strictly just like go get a bucket here in two three minute stretch here
that’s and it’s not even like consistent go get a bucket it’s when he’s on he’s on and then there’ll be times where it’s like you’re getting pissed off watching him you know so um yeah I I don’t think uh I don’t think that’s that’s the solution so I will I will say do I expect the Pistons to do more yes uh I do and I know Aldama the wing that people wanted he resigned with Memphis jiren Jackson Jr ressigned with Memphis nquille to the Hawks so I’ll read off some of the free agents uh shooting i already kind of mentioned it unless it unless they just signed somewhere but Duncan Robinson’s still available luke Canard still available
uh Seth Curry’s out there um and I I already did read a report on mive.com that I think Jacob Richmond put out that the Pistons are still in or trying to acquire a sharp shooting guard you know and I don’t know who that’ll be but they’re still trying to find shooting i would love people might hate this i would love Luke Canard back in Detroit
on this team i He d the dude shoots like almost 50% from three shoots like 45 averages like nine 10 points a game which means he’s getting you know three of them essentially a game because I’m sure that’s all he shoots um and and you just need him off the bench to do that you really do i don’t know if that replaces your Malik Beasley but that just adds another piece to it
i don’t know if there’s anyone in free agency what
i would rather have Luke Canard i agree
oh okay yeah i thought you were saying instead of
Malcolm Brogden piss shout out Anthony man
i don’t hate that either for a backup point guard the fet yeah how did he How was he last year no I think I’m out on K Lowry he was the Wizard last year wasn’t he
i I don’t even know
he was I think
Yeah Malcolm Broden last year 23 uh he only played 24 games but 13 13 and four and four basically yeah that’s kind of what his role was so I I I’m open to that you know i think that’s probably I mean you’re looking here i’ll pull up the uh the depth chart right now kind of what they have so starting lineup I mean projected Cade Ivy Assar Tobias Duran and you have Caris Levert Tim Hardaway Jr well he’s a free agent ron Holl and Isaiah Stewart so they still need another backup guard a sharp shooting guard and another wing probably um a four probably a four you need a four so a sharp shooting two guard a four something along those lines or maybe break a vet point guard in
i still need like you said Bo that’s a great one
cole Anthony is my pick and you would have to trade for him but I I mean you have assets go get Cole Anthony for your backup that’s a great great pickup i think honestly I think there needs to be a requirement if you sign someone i think they have to at least shoot at some point in their in the last couple years like 36 37% from three like that’s a minimum minimum
that’s the new requirement i mean
like if if you’re under there’s no Hey hey we you might be able to get you there um with our shooting coach no
yeah by the way Anthony shout out Co anthony did break his leg um if we’re being honest
hey bring him in so he can’t do it again you know you you take
you take it all
caleb says a TH resigning honestly might be coming what would you guys think of that
i would like it i I don’t hate THJ man
as long
Go ahead B my bad
i would say as long as it’s like he had a pretty big role last year and it’s like as you’re starting kind of essentially one of your wings but like but I mean the man he’s not bad like I I don’t think he’s that bad i mean the man is like putting up last year i mean he he had a down year in 11 points a game he shoots 37% from three like he’s shooting man
i was going to say pretty much the same thing you did as far as like as long as he’s not starting because I think if you’re going into situation especially in the playoffs let’s say you win the first round and Tim Tim Hardaway Junior is a starter at some point during that series he’s going to be off and he’s going to be a liability now you could see I believe it was game one or two where he was just going off i think he had like six or seven threes right away it could have been a little less than that but I think Tim Hardway is somebody great off the bench if you elevate a SAR and you you get Tim Hardway on a two-year deal I don’t hate it but I do see why people are like “Hey because of his inconsistency I think if you can go find a more consistent guy whether it be Canard or someone of that I prefer that but at the end of the day you still to Jeff’s point there’s still a sharpshooter needed on this bench and Tim Hardaway that’s exactly what his role would be ideally on any NBA team i don’t think he should be a starter i’d be out if you’re paying him a lot of money and I don’t think that’s would be the case but long as he’s off your bench I don’t have an issue with it
the player jumping up and down but again I don’t think you can bash it if it’s for low money
i’ll tell you this the TH thing it just depends i I’m not opposed to it he is pretty inconsistent but he can shoot the ball so I’m not going to be I’m not going to be too picky with that if he comes back it’s fine i’m not gonna be too upset
i think no matter what though because now you have Ivy coming back you’re you’re he’s probably coming off the bench no matter what
if you go into next year with Tim
Yeah i mean
I’ll play him at the three
you have Tim Hardaway and Caris Levert coming off the bench and Ron Holland essentially coming off the bench with Stu and uh to to me I mean you add another piece or two to this team that to me that’s a good you can go out there and compete next year at a high level i’ll uh I’ll I’ll react to this because what Jason’s saying is what I’ve been I’ve been mentioning over the last about week he said Collins Collins opted opted in at $28 million unless they buy him out in Utah ain’t happening i like John Collins i know if you were to have to get that deal done you’d probably have to trade Isaiah Stewart and and maybe you’d have to probably I don’t know what you’d have to throw in to get him um but what I know about John Collins is he plays the four and he’s close to a 20 point per game guy okay last year he gave the Jazz uh 19 and eight shot 39% from three and 50% from the field
what did he shoot from three
39 on almost four attempts
he’s good lock him in get that man here
i love John Collins i think he’d be a great fit i I I like the lobs they could throw John Collins and Jaylen Duran and you still have someone that can shoot threes i mean he shot 39.9% on 3.7 attempts the problem is you’re going to have to negotiate with one of the biggest douchebags in negotiations Danny A all right he’s He’s gonna try and rob you so I don’t know
i want to You called him that name i want to call him that he’s just a dog at the end of
Well it’s like a good word it’s like he’s a he’s a he’s a prick you know we’ll call him that yeah he’s got like he’s gonna try and he’s gonna like if you negotiate with him you’ll probably lose
i’ll tell you what if every NBA GM was like Danny A the NBA wouldn’t be out just throwing around 15 picks for a trade
like you know what I mean that’s how it should be old school
yeah he is he’s a tough one to he’s a tough one to negotiate with but I would love it i would love John i would say People would be fired up by the offseason i’ll tell you what they get John C i don’t know who you’d have to give up though i don’t know i don’t know what you have to give up but uh Jimmo says “Love you Jeff but are we counting on lobs?” No he can shoot the three um it’s not I’m just saying he has he can do both
39% from three i don’t know how many attempts that is per game
almost four
either way yeah no you’re in on John Collins then think about this perfect off season you finish this off seasonason with training for John Collins go get Cole Anthony resign Tim Hardaway you’re good to go yeah the last month of the year he averaged like 20 something points john Collins
what would you give up for him what’s the What’s the movement for a John Collins
i mean if you told me realistically too don’t just say you know I want a realistic package
i don’t know what it would look like i mean maybe Stewart
yeah like I don’t know uh two first in Fontia
i don’t I don’t know if I don’t think I’d do the two first i They probably would want something like that i don’t know what that deal would look like but I would pretty much be open to accepting most deals honestly except unless you’re asking for like multiple first i’m not doing that but two I might think about it because he’s worth it i mean I mean
he’s giving you 20 points a game and but the problem is he’s under contract for one more year so if you if you get him you’re going to have to extend
you know yeah he’s not gonna you’re not going to just rent him um
Yeah no I I like that i think that’s a great idea i don’t know if he’s on the trade block though
yeah but he’s 27 years old you know what I mean when someone opts in is that cuz because the LeBron thing opts in for the first time in his career first time in 23 years opted in instead of um opting out and doing a new contract is that like a sign hey I like
I’m able to hit the trademark now or how does that you know that Jeeoff because it feels like that was the LeBron conversation the last 48 hours well what it you what it usually is is like comparing um so what it he probably sees the $27 million he’s owed and he’s like I’m opting into that [ __ ] and if they trade me I’m still getting paid what I’m getting paid you know it’s a lot of money it’s like you rather not mess just opt in take the money and then they can still deal him and he’ll get paid that and then he’ll probably get an extension so
uh and I see that too like the Anony’s 100% spot on they drafted
love this then
out of UCF which I actually really liked him great player
but they’ve been trying to move him uh John Collins for the past year
so it just makes if you want if we’re so to shift God maybe we can break bread here if you guys want a bigger move I I we can talk John Collins i don’t know
again I don’t know the specifics of it but that’s a name i’m giving you a solution see we had to come up with it but John Collins could be a name to look out for uh Nick P says “Uh the Pistons would have to put Ivy Holland Sasser in five first for Giannis.” Yeah Giannis is a pipe i I just got
a white whale i don’t think it’s realistic in any way
yeah even I’m not even saying he won’t be traded because I think there is a chance he asks out but if he does ask out I don’t Are you going to be one of the teams that has the the most assets no uh there’s going to be teams like the the Thunder who have like 40 first rounders you know
and why the hell would the Bucks keep him in the East
and they trade him in the division yeah it wouldn’t and do you guys remember Nigel Hayes from Wisconsin
toledo legend absolutely
didn’t hasn’t played hasn’t played in the NBA since 2018 he went over to uh he went over to play in the Euro League and he he was the finals MVP in the Turkish Cup and the MVP in the whole league um and just signed a one-year deal fully guaranteed with the Phoenix Suns nigel Hayes bro what a throwback from that wisconsin
Wisconsin legend
he was so good at W he was he was good in Wisconsin he was on those teams that went to the national championship by the way
winner
him and Frank Kaminsky yeah he hasn’t played in the NBA since 2018 it looks like like to me that’s a journey man bro that is that is that’s respect going overseas in 2018 and just being like I’m going to stay over here and just maybe one day I’ll get a chance and goes off the last two years and now in the back in the NBA
he went to Eber Eberlu Whitmer Panther shout out to him 419 by the way Bayern says Zack Lavine from the Kings
i don’t know i think I’m out i don’t know how
I don’t think so
i don’t know how that fit with the money man
i don’t know how that would fit on the team you That’s what I’m saying like would it be worth it because
Ivy I don’t know
lavine lavine’s a very good player but if you’re going to put him over Ivy great keep Ivy on the floor what the hell are you going to do with the SAR like I think between Ivy and Assar I want to see at least this year how those two develop alongside Kate because you haven’t seen those three truly play together and seeing the late season and playoff run that Assar had man I want him to get as much time as he can because the potential that he has as a two-way player is I think up there as far as young guys in the NBA right now because what he can do defensively and lock down basically one through four and if he’s able to doesn’t have to get a three-point shot yet this year but if he can start hitting those mid-range shots a little bit more he can already get to the cup very efficiently i think you have somebody that I mean Zack Lavine’s great but Assar Thompson I think especially defensively can be a lot better than Libyan down the road
and I just I wouldn’t want to mess with that man like I wouldn’t want to mess with that development
i will say uh the uh I saw someone just comment Nuggets got Cam Johnson and Bruce Bruce Brown um not Bruce Bowen but Bruce Brown
bruce Bruce Brown
shout out Bruce Bowen but Bruce Brown was a former Piston by the way i was telling Boon before the show I wanted Bruce Brown so bad back in Detroit like this now
this off season yeah i just love he is when we talk about winning players he’s a winning player
he’s a great defensive player make you know he can he can he can play make a little bit he can he can shoot the three ball he’s just like tough
oh he went back to the Nuggets
went back to the Nuggets
i didn’t realize that’s where he went i didn’t put that together when I saw it earlier i saw him I was pissed about that one
good for the the
three it’s like he’s 6’4 6’5 he can play the three it’s like
I like Cam Johnson better than uh um
Michael Porter yes I I really do i I think I think Cam Johnson’s very good score a little bit more of a scorer in my opinion
yeah he could shoot the He’s probably a better catch and shoot guy with kind of how they want to run things he probably is a better fit there than Michael Porter michael Porter is a bucket i can’t wait to see he’s with the Nets now he should put up 20 something a game dude
yeah i didn’t even think about that
he should have won
michael Porter Jr in high school was different one of my favorite players to watch just a bucket like K looked like Katie out there honestly but yeah Taius Jones wins the Magic that sucks all right that blows i’ll get
I’m interested can we pull up let me see if I Can you Can you pull up uh uh the free agent list Jeff and just do remaining just to see who who’s left on the list let
me see um uh yeah I have this tracker it’s kind of a
spo track should have it
well NBA.com has one
oh do they have it to where it takes away the
Yeah it it tells you who signed
so it’s like this
can you can you filter it
um okay um
hey to the left availability just take uh a Yeah there we go unsigned this is This is exactly what we needed here well wait no they didn’t
some of them will It’ll say You’ll just The ones with the writing here they’re gone uh besides the eight but yeah like the ones that aren’t aren’t so we can do position if you want like do different positions guard
i just want to see who’s available can we just go all the way through and just see i just want to see if there’s any like names that are even realistic available uh Bobble you guys see that i did see connected to
that is like
I’m interested in that that back hey but I think he they’re out on him because they did just sign Paul Reed
yeah the Bull Bull stuff was hilarious i was like Pistons will be very aggressive to get land bull i was like okay
Malcolm Brogen there i still love that one is Is it Is that the end of the list
no no I just stopping uh Bruce Brown Bruce Brown’s gone thomas Bryant remember him alec Burks yeah bring the Burke back um let’s see josh Christopher that’s a crazy one um Jay Crowder still out there seth Curry Spencer Denwitty he averaged 11 last year it’s not bad yeah markeel Folultz we were just talking about him too
all right
um Kyle Lowry Trey Ly
i would is Brook Lopez he just went He went to the Clippers jonathan Kaminga i actually saw he’s working a deal out the Jonathan Kaminga they’re working a deal out with the Warriors
it’s probably why they let Looney go they just had to save every dollar they had
who Who’s above Braxton Key um Cory Joseph yeah I mean Cory Joseph ty Jones
uh yeah Tyus Jones he’s We’ll sign with Orlando that sucks um Isaiah Jackson yeah lot some of these guys are restricted like even the Kuminga restricted um THT El Horford he’s still out there the the vet I think Al Horford’s going to the Warriors actually is he
i I believe so i believe so quinton Grimes is a free agent
quinton Grimes is a free restricted
oh okay so is Josh Giddy okay they can match him yeah
eric Gordon taj Gibson is still
Who told me the other day Eric Gordon who was that
i did are Were you serious there was someone else that was said something about Eric Gordon too who Who were you with someone i
I said I told you I was like I I honestly I like Aaron Gordon i Eric Gordon i don’t know
oh you did he’s 36 years old Jeff i’m out on him
no he’s old but he can still shoot
i’m out on like the old old heads man
he’s still got a stuff
like James Johnson on the on the the Pacers like he’s good vet but just like and we’re trying we’re a young team man we don’t We don’t need that we got Paul
you need a hunk in there a little bit why not
no I’m green you don’t want a Jeff Green
no I’m out
you don’t want Taj Gibson
i’m out i didn’t know Taj isn’t even in the league anymore i’m sure he’s already
There’s no way Taj Gibson’s still in the league yeah you have uh Ben Simmons ah could I interest you
no 37% from three i don’t like the I hate the Duncan Robinson thing i know a lot of people don’t like him because his defense but I think you could figure something out with some of the the guys you have in that squad yeah you have uh H
I could see Landry Champ in a Pistons uniform i could very much see Landry Sham a Pistons
i can’t do it landry Landry Sham I I could just see him coming off the bench for the Pistons absolutely
torian Prince
maybe like seven years ago cliy uh Gary Payton II give you a little juice he’s 32 years old already
he I think he got in the league pretty late or a little later than usual think he played
the GLeague guy for the longest time wasn’t he
larry Nans Jr monte Morris
no I’m out on the Morris i love the Morris brothers that’s Marke no shout out Monte shout out Bleach or Beecher flip Beecher now I’m out though um Doug McDoug no I’m just kidding yeah I mean this is pretty you got uh
this is an interesting I mean yeah we do got Cam Thomas restricted ah say give me Cam i think the Pistons I’ll say that Gary Trent Jr gary Trent Jr gary Trent Jr to replace Malik Beasley yeah he’s unrestricted gary Trent Jr to replace Malik Beasley did he already sign a deal
uh no I don’t hold on let me look up i swear I heard some information about him earlier i swear something was tweeted out about Gary Trent hey Gary Trent Jr we’re on board with right this is
Gary Trent i don’t know if it’s real uh a three or 27 maybe this is wrong i I don’t know what I don’t know someone I’ I just I looked i have not seen anything about Gary Trent Jr
give me Gary Trent Jr to replace Malik Beasley boys i would love Gary Trent Jr to replace Malik Beasley
yeah he’s a uh that dude can shoot the ball too i like Gary Gary Trent Jr can
Can we Can we touch on uh the Malik Beasley stuff before we keep talking free agency uh yeah
because I I have an opinion on it and I don’t know if you guys have the same opinion on it gary Tran Jr shot 42% from three last year
that’s pretty good yeah pretty good
i’m I’m in on him
so this this Malik Beasley stuff so we’re at Rocket Classic yesterday we’re sitting there eating lunch in the media room and I get a notification on my phone from Shams Shams
and it’s basically telling me the probably the worst news I could have gotten that day uh besides like my dog dying and that was that Malik Beasley is being investigated by the US District Attorney’s office on allegations of gambling related NBA games and prop bets the Pistons were in serious talks on a threeyear 42 million deal to bring Beasley back talks have now paused i mean Malik how stupid do you have to do this allegedly but let’s
convicted yet
he’s But to even be in this situation what guys ask yourself this all right and I’m a big innocent till proven guilty guy all right i I I try to give you guys the benefit of the doubt but this is opinion coming out why do you think they’re investigating him it’s because they have something at least a little a little hint of something you know there’s a red flag that popped up somewhere you know like they don’t just randomly go um
Malik Beasley we’re investigating you obviously there’s a reason they decided to investigate him you know uh so whether that’s money going somewhere uh per FanDuel they they work with these these uh companies to find out certain things i don’t know i I don’t know i hope it works out i really do but if it doesn’t and this dude was about to sign a three or $42 million deal take the Pistons out of it just for him for like the human being side was it worth it i I hope he he is found innocent i hope this works out for him but the fact that we’re here it sucks it stunk it really does
this This is my thing on it and I’ll just be completely hon you you never put yourself in a position to even have to be in those conversations obviously there was the Jambo thing to where J Mo was wasn’t even betting on the NBA he was or on the NFL he was just betting in a a facility or somewhere he’s not supposed to be um the stuff coming out allegedly with Malik is that like there’s something going on deeper than that and I don’t know if you guys saw today but um who who was the other player that that recently uh Porter
no not Jonte Porter um I’m drawing a blank uh Terry Rosier terry Rosir january comes out is being investigated by federal um authorities uh of something similar like Malik Beasley um and it’s June 30th so this this happened in January that Terry Roier has this come out june literally this week it comes out that all the charges have been dropped like there’s been they haven’t they didn’t find anything and it’s done my problem is it’s that’s June Febru February March how many months is that boys like five six months
mhm
like after in my opinion it’s it I think a lot of people are like well Beasley hasn’t been charged yet so you you we can still wait and sign him you’re you’re out on Beasley like that deal is not happening anymore like it’s a thing like with in Detroit with the Lions with Dan Campbell it’s like hey anything comes up with someone like that you’re most likely out like we don’t want stuff like that and distractions in the locker room like that’s hard unless maybe like with J Mo like cuz he’s a good player too but and you don’t want any expect like exceptions but it’s just one of those things where it’s like dude you’re literally a free agent right now we don’t want to give you $40 million most of it guaranteed if there’s a chance you get convicted of this and and something comes out of it to where you get a 60game suspension a lifetime ban or something like that and you’re sitting there going “Uh we just signed him to a $40 million deal now what oh we didn’t go out and get a replacement.” If you’re Tjan Langden you’re going it’s such an unfortunate situation but we have to go out and get someone to replace him and and we have no we have no plans to resign Malik Beasley and I would love him in Detroit but you just can’t take the risk in my opinion you’re trying to build a championship team and a championship roster um there’s just no reason that you just spend money on that and and and sit there and be like he might be there and might you might have him when you just have no clue and you saw the Terry Rosier thing take almost 6 months uh to even come out that hey it’s all cleared i hope 6 months down I hope whenever it comes out that nothing was happened and it was just a report and maybe they found something and he he’s proven innocent um but in the sake of building a team and going for trying to win a championship it’s hard to sign someone with that going on in my opinion and you need someone in place of him so I think it’s going to end up being one of those situations to where it’s like we would love Malik in Detroit but you just got to move on cut ties and uh go find someone else who can you know do what he did hopefully like I said maybe go get a Gary Trent Jr um with it but I just think it’s at this point as as tough it is because I’m sure in the last 48 hours Malik’s gone from I couldn’t imagine going from thinking you’re about to sign a massive deal to potentially being you know
involved with the Yeah literally you go to prison for this whatever it is so it’s it’s tough for him but you can’t put yourself in if dude if you’re in in line to make that much money
you cannot put yourself in those positions you can’t whether you did it or not you just cannot yeah and I’m pretty sure this is trailing back even before he’s with the Pistons too which is even worse because he’s coming off his career best season and he was aligned to get a bag and I think Tion would be brain dead to resign him during this and I think just overall if you’re an NBA athlete professional athlete in general what do you have to gain from betting on sports because you’re if you if you want to use the excuse taking care of the family if you’re not and you’re Malik Beasley if you’re not able to take care of your family with the money that you have then there’s a personal issue going on there i don’t think there’s any reason that you can look at betting on the sport especially when you play in the sport that pans out in a positive result at some point you’re going to get caught because you see how serious they are across all sports regardless of what it is with betting and you’re about to go get paid the biggest bag of your life and within 48 hours of this happening Trejan Langden has already replaced him with a guy like Caris Levert so I think Beasley with the Pistons for sure is cooked zero chance that he’s coming back to the Pistons and if this is true I think Malik Beasley’s career in the NBA you could pretty much consider over because I don’t think any team is going to want them at least a contending team a team that’s contending to get in the playoffs at the bare minimum he’s going to have to go to an LG team a bottom feeder and hopefully get paid a little bit of money there but if you’re a GM at this point why the hell would you invest money into Malik Beasley and it’s sad because he is a really good player i don’t want to make it seem like he’s not but no chance no chance that Malik Beasley is going to be in Detroit now or ever again yeah can I can I throw something out there
yep go ahead
i I I saw on Twitter here um this is a rumor it’s not like a report or or confirmation that it’s happening um but I don’t know if you guys noticed so like the the Dennis Schroeder news hasn’t really been confirmed by the likes of like Shams and and some of the bigger bigger reporters um it looks like the rumor out there right now and this is just kind of I guess it’s like random people on Twitter but like I saw even in in uh trying to find some some other accounts here so we can see how serious it is but it just seems like it’s just something that’s going on um since it has been announced that Dennis Schroer is officially signed that uh potentially the Pistons could be working on a sign and trade to send instead of just losing Dennis Schroeder straight up to sign Dennis Schroeder and trade him to the Sacramento Kings the name that’s getting floating around there boys and I think this might be best case scenario for the Pistons if this happens tjan wins Trejan Langden wins the um off seasonason and perfect fit malik Mont averaged 17 points per game last year for the Sacramento Kings um shot what is it 40 or 30 oh shot 33% from three 35 the year before uh I I think that would be unbelievable if you end up moving on Dennis Schroeder and you end up bringing on a Malik Monk in that’s probably best case scenario uh for the Detroit Pistons
they got a lot of guards over there man they got a lot of guards so the Malik Monk thing I don’t think is crazy the signing trade would be like that’s what I’m I’m talking about here is is you can acquire talent in various ways it doesn’t have to be just via signing they can do it via sign and trade they can just trade whatever it is uh and I think Malik Monk man he’s he’s another guy off the bench that I know the shooting numbers the percentages aren’t very very high but
he can shoot the ball like you can tell sometimes the percentage doesn’t tell the full story he can shoot and he can score
so um
17 points per game that that replaces I know the shooting doesn’t replace
um Malik Beasley but I mean you’re talking about like hey how can you get more points in there a league averaged 15 for you how do you replace those 15 points and add to it you go out and get someone who averaged more from last year um on a team that over the last few seasons has competed um and they’ve actually been you know decent they might have had their ups and downs but he’s been in you know meaningful basketball games over the last few seasons
yeah because he uh Well here’s the thing and this is why it does not tell the full story percentage tells the whole story under 30% is trash or under 33 that doesn’t tell the full story because when you look at his career he’s a career 35% three-point shooter and he shot 35% and 36% and 39% the three years prior so you’re looking at this past season 32 and a half so I I I like to look at the bigger sample size right he has a bigger sample size of shooting the three ball well than just one year you know so I um I’m open to Mik be Malik Beasley Malik Monk uh different to Malik we’re going to have some guests on today everyone watching uh make sure you subscribe as well uh we’re having Corey Woods from mlive.com on to break it down he’s grinding today he’s got hopefully he’s going to bring his thoughts on everything going on right now and kind of give a different perspective the media perspective and then we have Eric Vincent later in the show joining so lots going on right now um but I see uh people uh talking right now Detroit Sports Talk we would have Monk under contract for three years then i uh I don’t know
that’s what I’ll have to look malik Monk’s contract uh that so it’s a fouryear $70 million contract he signed and I don’t know what year he’s into it okay uh yeah he is right it is a three-year contract at 20 mil a year i don’t think that actually is in play then if I’m being honest I don’t think that Malik Monk will become a Piston that’s pretty tough 20 it’s 20 a year and he has a player option in the third year which he’ll probably accept anyway who else on that Kings team would you think that they would because I think there’s going to be a sign if if the deal isn’t like thrown in there yet you would think that the something’s getting worked out i mean there’s I don’t know who else you would think that potentially could be in that
let me let me see so um yeah that that contract is pretty
give me Sabonis i’d love
Sabonis i mean can you do that contract now that you’re not signing Malik Beasley though not a chance not supposed under contract um let me see is Valenunis under contract uh he is under contract for two years 10 million a year i would love Valenunis Valenunis that’s a good backup big you want to back up big there you go valentun
Bball Paul
yeah I’ll take No Paul can just beat Ride they don’t have to play we’ll just play Valentunis and he can just be like
break the glass if you need a big Oh imagine that um Keon Ellis i I saw Caleb just put in there keon Ellis yeah that’s
imagine if he went out and got Keegan Murray somehow someway tan’s just out there doing some magic
oh Keegan Murray they’d be idiots it’s a Kings move
yeah that’d be a King’s move i’m interested to see who this player is if this is true because right now Piston’s Twitter’s kind of uh blowing up with the the sign and trade
i don’t I don’t think that’s a bad theory i I think that’s a probably a fair thing to ask is like what’s going on with the Shruder stuff you know could he uh could it be a sign and trade i King says “Dude they just signed Paul not going to happen.” Um I don’t think resigning Paul Reid it’s a two-year 11 million deal luke Canard one-year deal 11 million Atlanta Hawks god damn
okay Hawks are cleaning up to your point Boone
i’m telling you this Hawks roster if you look at the Hawks roster this off season they just said screw it we’re just going to go get four guys and they went and got four or five just guys that I would say are pretty not like great but like good ball players surrounding uh Trey Young i I think the Hawks would be uh that a quiet team this year
okay luke Canard that’s tough that’s tough duncan Robinson’s still out there um he is still out there yeah i don’t think Paul Reed signing a two-year 11 million deal basically signals we’re done adding a center
i don’t know or a power forward or something i don’t know unless they think Isaiah Stewart he probably will just be the backup big yeah so a locked on this is a report locked on Matt George out of Sacramento locked on Sacramento Kings um he said and this was at 7:43 p.m he said “If what I’m hearing this morning has any validity to it there’s a reason why the Schroer signing hasn’t been confirmed for the record I 100% believe it’s happening but the Kings are working for more and how they sign Schroer as part of it so it sounds like some things are happening um behind the scenes with this so they they’re definitely at least I know Tjan’s probably in there
there’s conversations happening yeah i don’t know how they make it work
you could throw a third team in there right like if you because it sounds like he’s saying that Schroeder or the Kings might want more than Schroeder um that could come from a different team and there could be a player on a different team that the Pistons bring in um to where they do kind of a little three-way trade there that that’s definitely an option um yeah and I know that that would be something to watch man and the Kings got an influx of just random guys they probably need to get rid of anyway so like I I mentioned they already have the guys they brought in last year Zack Lavine Demar but um they do have other guys that they’re probably willing to move on from if I’m being honest
yeah can Can I say before Cory hops on I just want to tell we have a lot of people in here 300 um if you aren’t subscribed yet hit that subscribe button for the boys we we are live Mondays through Fridays 8 to 10:00 p.m
all Detroit sports um obviously NBA free agency and the Pistons tonight and make sure you hit the like button on the stream pushes the boys out a little bit more uh but make sure just that’s all you have to do to to show some support just subscribe and like like the stream
i know
why don’t listen guys don’t spam John Collins don’t Don’t do that because what what because then you got me excited
now you got me excited well imagine if that happened like three-way trade and it’s John Collins Pistons Schroeder to the Kings and someone else like some to the
um I don’t even know where John Collins is the Jazz dude john I would that would make I would be ecstatic i think John Collins is the perfect fit we’ll ask Corey about it like I said Corey joining in a couple of minutes here and then we got Eric Vincent on later so getting the media coming on thank you guys for all tuning in today big day um let’s see and Ben Blue says “Like the stream no more free agents for the Pistons
yep
you heard what he said um Matthew what the LeVvert deal means that they operating over the cap that means more to come okay i like that
i guess we
I think he said he was watching from Brazil too Matthew so shout out him
shout out Matthew man that’s something interesting i didn’t know that that That’s
Well let’s bring in our uh Let’s bring in I just hit him up uh emergency call to my good our good friend here covers the Pistons and Lions form Live.com to recap a little bit of what the Pistons did and kind of foreshadow what he thinks could happen and what his thoughts are and everything because seems like people are a little upset let’s bring him on to the show Mr corey Woods corey how we doing my my friend woo hey how you guys doing uh pretty uh pretty busy day
oh uh yeah i mean people expect it to be even busier Corey i mean people are uh there’s people that are loving the Caris Levert deal like we are and then there’s people that apparently just don’t like it for whatever reason i don’t really understand it but what do you think of what happened today with the Pistons and kind of guys signing everywhere what’ you think
well I mean the Pistons just had they had to do something with the Malik Beasley situation looming over them right now i know that a lot of people are like hoping that everything turns out for the best i mean I believe everybody’s hoping that turns out for the best but with that happening right before free agency starting the Pistons had to make a pivot it just is what it is and you know they were on the radar for guys like Nikil al um Alexander Walker but we just saw that he’s going in a sign and trade to the um Hawks if I’m not mistaken on a fouryear $62 million deal and then you got the other guys are going around getting the bag so I mean Duncan Robinson might have been an option but I mean here’s the thing carvert is going to be coming off the bench more than likely and the from what I from what I understand with what they’re going to be paying him they can still get him under the non-t taxpayer mid-level exception so the Pistons are going to still have enough money to go ahead and make some moves and you know with them losing Dennis Schroeder I’m hearing that this is possibility there’s a chance this could be a sign and trade um those are some rumors I’m hearing there’s nothing substantiated right now so but um here’s the thing yeah you had to get somebody if Caris Levert can stay healthy I mean he’s a bucket off the bench and you’re not really asking too much of him so that’s just that’s just really right there you’re just hoping this guy can stay healthy because if he can stay healthy he’s going to be a bucket for them
yeah cory I I just want to ask your expectations kind of moving forward with Trejan obviously you said um how the Dennis Schroeder kind of moving along there so they’re still kind of that backup point guard uh coming off the bench maybe another vet presence and maybe another shooter with the Malik Beasley situation going on outside of Caris Levert what What other moves do you are you sitting here looking at the Pistons being like I I want this player is there any players specifically that you’re you’re eyeballing right now after everything’s um unfolded over the last few hours um no not not just yet because I want to see what comes to fruition with this Dennis Roer deal because if it is a signing trade I want to see who they’re going to get back there are you know there are a couple of pieces that um the the Kings are rumored to be moving on from in the trade so you know I just want to see what the numbers look like and who they could be getting you know if they’re it’s possible they could get it back cuz if I’m if I’m not mistaken the Pistons still have um Schroeders Bird rights so um it’s things can get really like I said things can get really interesting i don’t know who they could who they could possibly get i mean a lot of the guys that I thought they could possibly get on the free agent and some market were going to be to help their front court and you know Nas Reed he stayed with the uh Timberwolves and Bobby Poris he chose to stay with the Milwaukee Bucks so that pretty much limited their options right there so um it’s just a it’s just a weird 24 hours so far for this team so kind of don’t really know where they’re going to go just yet because all from what we all kind of expected you know they were going to be zeroing in on Malik Beasley and I think we kind of knew that Dennis was out the door because of what he posted the other day he said something of the gist of you know I want to stay in Detroit but Detroit not waiting on me and um hey we see that right now
and when you’re looking at this roster Cory especially I know they signed Paul Reid but there’s still depth in my opinion that needs to be there at center and then you look at that back court obviously coming off the bench what do you think the number one need moving forward through this off seasonason is for the P for the Pistons positional wise
well I mean I think the the most glaring one is getting a stretch for i mean they definitely need to to take care of that and I don’t know if they’re going to be able to grab that guy on the free agent market it might be something with the trade on the on the trade market i think we’re going to see a lot of more trades going on through this off season and the one thing that the Pistons have in their back pocket is that Tobias Harris is on an expiring deal so depending on how some of these moves make some of these moves pan out over the next couple of u days and weeks i mean Tobias Harris deal is very attractive well Corey a player that um I I think I brought up to I don’t know if I brought it up to you and I’m sure you’ve already been watching this player and I Pistons fans I keep checking my Apple I just want to see if I get notifications if he gets traded but the Jazz have been trying to trade John Collins forever okay he’s opted into like a $27 million deal he’s 27 years old he can shoot the three ball he plays the four spot what do you think uh just of the player i I know like the Jazz negotiating with Danny A is one of the worst things you could do in sports but just to try and get a guy like that people want this big move and I asked the question everyone wants a big move tell me the move in my opinion John Collins might not be a bad move but I I don’t know what that would look like that’s probably the other thing i mean would it be a first or two first round picks but what do you think of the player John Collins and uh and because I think the Jazz probably will try and move on from the guy honestly they got young guys they probably want to grow
i think John Collins would be a solid move um the one thing that is kind of like really tripping me out about Pistons fans is that they believe that you know and I said this and I said this the other day on um on uh Pistons talk so I’m going to kind of regurgitate it you know the one thing that kind of trips me out about Pistons fans is that they believe that they have um their players are like they want to trade a bunch of Ray-B bands for some white sticks and uh that just is not going to happen if you guys don’t know what I mean by that is you’re not going to trade Ray-B band glasses for Cardier frames you know you’re not gonna you’re not gonna you’re not going to give up something that you don’t like and get somebody else’s best it it just doesn’t work like that so uh but when you’re talking about somebody like a John Collins I think that would be a solid move i like I said I believe this offseason the Pistons make a move but not a splash move and I think John Collins will be a smart and sensible move with the money that he makes him and Tobias it kind of lines up you might have to go ahead and throw in um a young player like maybe a Marcus Sasser and some draft picks to uh to sweeten the deal but if you’re able to get a John Collins in here yeah I mean there might be some concerns about his defense but you know defense is really just effort and if you’re able to get him into Detroit and JB Bickerstaff system I believe that he can play i believe that I might be able to might be able to work on that because I mean with all due respect I mean nobody’s really harading Tobias Harris for his defense but we saw the effort out for him effort from him throughout the season and in the postseason so uh John Collins would be a solid move um again just really kind of cons trying to see what’s going to happen over the next couple um hours with who gets signed where and so how some of these signing trades work out because again I think Detroit could be in play for a um in play for something big especially with with the fact that they have a lot of flexibility left
yeah Cory with kind of all this stuff going on right now we actually talked about it a little bit ago one player that is a free agent from the Pistons Tim Hardaway Jr What what are your thoughts on the situation with him obviously he started a lot of games most games for the Pistons last year down the all season and down the stretch do you think that’s still a piece that they want to bring back um and maybe add coming off the bench or do you think they bring him back to kind of be in that lineup again um this next year i I think that’s somebody they’re probably having conversations with at the moment i don’t think they’re going to bring him back just yet just you know they just they just got in um they just got in LeVvert so I think right now they’re at their Michig they’re at their Michigan quota for the moment but um right
if it but again if you’re able to bring him back that is just there that is somebody that is a um savvy veteran a person that guys leaned on throughout throughout the entire throughout the entire year and has shown a tendency to hit some shots when needed now the other thing about that is we’ve also seen Tim Hardway go very ice cold so it’s just wonder if they want to go ahead and bring him back or if they want to kind of keep that flexibility for the moment to go make a bigger move i think that the market for Tim Hardaway right now is not something where you just have to go and immediately go sign him back i think there are other avenues that you can explore at the moment to improve this team i know it’s only been 24 hours Cory but when you’re looking around the East right now obviously the Magic have been making moves boon just brought up the Hawks who do you think right now has elevated themselves so far the most in the East um I mean I think the obvious answer right now it would would still be the Orlando Magic i mean I believe that Desmond Bane deal is I won’t say it’s one that is going to take them to the Eastern Conference favorite but when you factor in who all is injured right now and a lot of guys are going to be out next year that does that does still have them in a in a really good position right now in East so I would still say as of right now nobody has really made any moves that kind of make me go like oh wow they’re they’re kind of position themselves to take the East other than the Orlando Magic i believe they put themselves in in a good spot
we’ll see what happens Cory i mean this today’s already been I mean people are going to obviously feel a certain type of way no matter what happens but I think the big thing is let this thing cook a little bit and we’ll evaluate it keep up the good work Cory i know you
I do want to add I do want to add one thing about the about the carous deal that uh a lot of people should not trip over is to under my to my understanding this could like slide under the non-t taxpayer mid-level exception so again they still have room to operate so I I just wouldn’t panic right now but again they made a move they got Levert they uh they brought back Paul Reed um I believe that’s also a solid signing because that is just a guy that knows his role and is um is a good locker room guy so uh let’s just let’s just see what happens over the next couple days they don’t necessarily have to make the splash on day one and also too this was not really a a strong free agent crop to to to begin with so you know just know that they have to spend the money so the we’re just going to see when and how the money gets spent
yeah that’s the that’s the thing too if you’re going to make a big move it’s going to be via trade so we’ll see we’ll see if they end up doing something like that but please everyone in the chat if you’re listening follow uh watching live follow Corey at Cory Woods covers the Pistons and Lions for live.com good friend of the show cory appreciate you joining on last minute notice and keep crushing dude
have a good one
there you go cory Woods joining the show talking to fellas here appreciate it Cory on the just kind of the Pistons period
eric Vincent joining in about 17 minutes from clutchoints.com kind of to give his thoughts as well i see a lot of people talking about this Dennis Shruder stuff as well so expect something soon um I I would assume soon i I don’t know how soon but this Dennis Shruder thing to kind of play out because to what Corey said it is interesting uh it wasn’t really reported from uh Shams like you mentioned Boon it’s not really on a national level it was more just you know he told the Athletic he was signing with the Kings so that means something’s in the work so pay attention keep your notifications on keep listening keep watching because when it happens we’ll react to it live I listen I I expect more to happen uh Duncan Robinson’s still out there he could very well be a piston in the next 20 minutes I mean who knows let’s just let this thing kind of keep
Gary Trent Jr here
gary Gary Trent Jr uh East Side meet shout out to you he says “Get Bull [ __ ] it.” Uh
yeah bullbull what was your honest reaction to getting a notification that Bull Bull is a Detroit Piston
he’s just You’re doing it because it’s Bull Bull i mean
he’s he’s going to get you what six points a game yeah i don’t think to me
no there’s there’s there’s like free agent signings where you’re like “Okay this guy’s going to have a big part of winning a championship.” Bull bully no with all due respect he’s it’s not gonna be like “Yes Bull.”
No I’m just sitting there like “Okay Bull there we go.” Like “Hey we need you a couple times a year you better be ready to go.”
I just give me Gary Trent Jr
yeah Gary Trent Jr would be a really good signing i That one would be They need They do need depth i know people want the big fish thing if you’re going to make a deal it’s going to be involving Tobias Harris because of his expiring contract so you’re probably that’s why the John Collins thing is really intriguing because like Corey said you probably have to attach a young player to it like a Marcus Sasser maybe you throw in a a draft pick or two
and I think you could probably work that deal out you know I think you could if you if you throw in Tobias a young player and maybe some draft capital I think you could probably get that deal done i do now like I said you’re gonna have to extend John Collins but Cade Cunningham Jaden Ivy Assaar John Collins Duran Caris Levert off the bench you sign another shooter yeah Ron Holland coming off the bench like now you’re putting together you know I’m not talking like oh they’re going to run through the East but it it’s a better team that’s what people are asking for i think that’s what most people want right now do you want to improve
okay go get John Collins
you’re a top half team in the Eastern Conference with that without a doubt
I would say top your top f I would put they were what six in the east last year
you’re moving up
yeah i would say this too the one thing too that really um gives me confidence like even over the next couple days or next 24 hours as this whole thing plays out i mean you guys got to think we’re three hours into free agency like things are going to keep happening here but as this plays out you got to remember what Tan Langden did last year in free agency first year like he he essentially joined the franchise right before the NBA draft didn’t have much prep
go through the NBA draft and then instantly within a week is free agency and he goes out and gets you um a Tobias Harris and and brings Tobias in and did he get Tim Hardaway during that free agency period Jeff
yes or was that was that uh a trade
no that was that uh it might have been I don’t know if it was a trade or not it might have been a trade i that’s what I don’t remember but it was that for it was that period of time
to me it’s the confidence of knowing that Trejan like last year went out and got the right vets right like how many times over the last 10 years have we seen like a guy like Troy Weaver go out and just bring vets in or just bring free agents in that just never meshed or made sense with this team we got to see one year already of Trejan do it and every single player that he brought in was a perfect fit malik Beasley for example like everyone was a perfect fit for this team so Trejan Langden to me like bringing in Caris like this guy knows what he’s doing like he understands it and yeah he played with JB or for JB Bicker Staff last year or two years ago whatever it was in Cleveland so I think Trejan knows exactly what he’s doing i’m interested to see the
the the package that he ends up getting for um Dennis Schroeder i really am i think he ends up whoever he gets I know it’s someone that he feels will fit really well on this team so I’m interested in it that’ll be great too because Dennis was like a mid-season late season acquisition for him to get assets I think within itself is a is a is a bonus on top of it
yeah that’s for free as well you didn’t give up anything essentially to bring Dennis Schroer in last year
um two things one I want to address this burning issues by the way Tanjan told you all that he wasn’t making any splash moves okay yeah that is a that’s a fact uh I I that’s where I’ll defend the Pistons on that i still I think we can all agree you want them to improve i think that’s we we all understand that now by how much if people are expecting some massive explosive move where it’s like wow you know the whole NBA gets shooken up by it’s not happening you know it’s just it’s not happening now can they get better yes you want them to get better i just don’t think it was never going to be Kevin Durant or anything like that by the way the Rockets they’re they’re going to be legit next year by the way they had a great
They did they had a great
I hate to say it
they had a great last month and then uh I also want to state before we move on here we have officially hit 14,000 subscribers for the appreciate all you guys keep tuning in keep listening um but yeah I uh I’m not surprised by how it’s playing out so far i I’m not and uh Z Digital says Trajan probably ends up signing a vet to a similar deal to Beasley the Beasley deal last year yeah like you could probably still get someone maybe you could still buy low on someone and they end up working out and playing well that’s obviously not ideal but like Duncan Robinson uh he was making like what 20 something a year I think or 20 a year with Miami i I mean you’re not touching that obviously but at a discounted price like Duncan Robinson let me see um
he averaged 11 last year for the Heat and he shot what is he shot 39% from threes he’s a basically a
40 40% three-point shooter yeah which is three-point shooter yeah and
the only problem is defensively he he is a little bit of a liability that that’s always been a conversation with him trying to find different um defensive schemes kind of or or rotations to get him in on the court with someone that can help him defensively because that has been a problem
jb could
you got to hide him yeah he’s not great defensively but he could shoot steve Leman appreciate the uh the member for 14 months shout out 14K LFG boys appreciate you Steve appreciate all you guys in the chat as well um and I agree Jay Hart now that Jaylen Green’s gone you can support the Rockets again rockets are going to be good man they’re in the East though but or the West but still they’re going to be good
the East is a little more open in my opinion you have the top two teams missing their star players due to injury massive injury and then after that you have just a a bunch of other teams in the East that are kind of competing and I that’s why I understand why people are a little more pushy for it um but when you look at the standings last year uh you have the Celtics Knicks who Knicks are going to be right there again obviously they’re looking for a new head coach so we’ll see how that goes the Bucks um let’s see let me look at this i’m tell
the Bucks
yeah this the Cavs will obviously be there um Celtics Knicks Pacers celtics and Pacers missing the two best players but Bucks are always going to kind of be around in the My my opinion’s been the same with all this with that Jeff it’s hey you don’t need to go get a Giannis or like if you did in my opinion you’re you’re a contender right away to go win a championship but the only thing that Trejan couldn’t have done this this free agency period and this off season is just sit Pat and and resign Beasley resign Tim resign Dennis and say “Hey we’re good to go.” Like you had to go get new life in my opinion like you had to and hopefully that’s what happens with Dennis Schroer moving on and bringing someone in the Caris Levert that’s it i hope they go out and get someone else to get some more life like think about teams that have won championship remember the Bucks before um they made that push on the championship and they go get a guy like Drew Holiday i’m not saying you need to go get a level like that but you need to go get some you know you need to add and you need to constantly add to move forward um because I understand it you you have such a good young roster you have such a good core to where you’re like I want you want to see them develop and keep getting better and you don’t want to fully take away from that but at the same time you have to have a like a push and sh like you have to be able to give and take a little bit and say hey we still need to keep this thing moving forward and develop these young guys and and kind of go through that process there so um that that’s in my opinion man they need to continue he needs to continue to work this off seasonason make some moves
big big shout out Coach Walk dropping a 50 bomb appreciate Coach Walk man
he says “Congrats on the milestone boys keep up the great work Coach Walk we love you appreciate it appreciate everyone man 14k let’s keep pushing it man let’s go
we’re trying to get to uh 20,000 50,000 100,000 so let’s keep pushing.” Um but what you said there uh Boon about the Drew Holiday thing i think that’s probably a really good comp actually because he you bring you got to bring in guys that have been a part of teams that have won or that’s why the Bruce Brown thing to me was super intriguing because he won an NBA championship you know he did all the things like that’s a guy you want in the building even though we argued about Derrick White I see all your points about Derrick White he is the perfect like you need guys man he would fit
yes like the Gary Trent gary Trent’s I don’t know if he’s won a championship but he’s been in winning organizations constantly like these guys you have to go out there and find guys who can push you forward while you’re still developing players and getting better so you that’s that’s how you have to make it make it work here
yeah and that’s that’s something that obviously the sign and trade stuff we’ll we’ll kind of see i mean there’s still opportunities here for the Pistons to make a at least some move um haven’t got anything yet i don’t think the Pistons are going to be done we might get something later after the show i mean who knows traan’s probably not going to sleep tonight to be honest with you so we’ll see um but Duncan probably the best available unless you want to pivot to Seth Curry
the Luke Canard one was a big one for me
yeah unless you want to go to Seth Curry or Gary’s gonna be a big one
gary Trent or Duncan
oh here’s some news some Shams news Shams Shams Mason Plumbley one-year deal charlotte Hornets
pistons legend
watch out for the Hornets absolute Pistons legend dude uton yeah yeah Mason Plumbley making $2 million paul Reed got more than Mason Plumbley so
did he actually
Yeah I think Paul Reed got two for 11 it’s like five it’s five and a half you know what I mean it’s like in today’s NBA dude guys are making 25 being role players it’s like or 20 it’s like what is what is five really to to the average human it’s a lot of it’s a lot of money obviously it’s a lot of coin
but to the NBA players dude the guys are making f I mean guys are going to make $70 million a year i mean you know it’s just like I’m not gonna be mad if you don’t if you don’t like the Paul Reed signing i’m not even gonna argue with it i don’t I’m not I I just listen like I get it but like two years 11 mil or whatever he got 12
i just And Paul Paul’s a he’s a fan favorite so people are going to hate may hate me for saying I just don’t I just don’t think Paul Reed is like a was like a must like bring him back he averaged like two and well let me see like he averaged four and two and I know before he was seven and six with the Sixers but you didn’t get it’s it’s like with Jaylen Duran and Isaiah Stewart in my opinion like you could probably use that money to go get a Mason Plum late who who could get you six and seven right like a little bit more or there’s guys out there that you just get a little bit more maybe honestly maybe Paul Reed and this is maybe where I’m off a little bit on it maybe Paul Reed is your James Johnson your Jeff Green maybe that’s why they they kept him in there
a vet
in the vet but the thing is it’s like he’s he’s really not a vet he’s a a six-year guy he’s not it’s not like he’s like a 13 14 he’s a six-year guy
um but like were you guys pumped at what you saw about him in the playoffs honest don’t lie to me don’t lie to me no no after that I was like what why did we even make it like what are we doing he’s You want me to be honest i agree with uh Adz he’s a third center
but he’s a third center but you could have a better third center in my opinion maybe I’m wrong man i I could be off on this one
they probably look at it like Isaiah Stewart’s their backup big and they just have Paul
yeah but when Steu goes down and you saw what happened in the playoffs with Paul it’s over
it’s over to me there’s there there’s guys out there where you could have gone go get another big and you could had a little rotation of a little bit you could upgrade that position that’s just again I’m a Bball Paul fan man i am a Bball Paul fan i just listen I
I
Maybe you just do a one-year deal with him if it was a one-year deal worth 4 mil I would have been like “Yep we’re I’m good one for three I’m good two for 11 12 that’s where I’m sitting there like “Hey I love Bball Paul.” You’re not gonna like is he a trade asset probably not yeah i
I mean Jay Hart we we can bring up hey you started for him 60 games in Philly won them some games why didn’t he do that when we needed him down the stretch in the playoffs that’s my problem it’s hey you have to earn the deals to me number was called didn’t produce it’s as simple as that you got to produce and if you want to get a kind that’s just what it is to me man i’m not s I’m not gonna I’m not gonna sweet coat it just because he’s he’s a man of the people and he’s a fan favorite i like Bball Paul man
yeah that’s just a fact love is real says Houston’s third center is Capella i just checked
i would have rather had Clint Capella
they have Sangon Steven Adams and Clint Capella yeah like what are we doing here and again
it’s it’s just it’s a
I mean I lack size they do need size man i I
I would have gone and got a Clint Capella or a player like that honestly
Clint would have been a really good pickup over Paul Reed i don’t even know what Clint got paid but I would have paid a little bit more to bring a guy like that in you know you’re going to deal with injuries with your picks how often does How often does Jaylen Duran roll his ankle well Clint got three for 21 and a half so like seven
i would have done that yeah it’s a great deal yeah no I would What do we like We could have a little push back here with with Tan okay another one off the board torian Prince two-year deal with the Bucks so that was a I kind of liked him he’s gone he can shoot the ball so he’s he’s gone uh I’m keeping a lookout for Duncan though obviously the the shooters I’m most paying attention to right now shooters and big men
four stretch fours you know that’s that’s uh that’s what we’re looking for shout out Rod Beard by the way formerly of the Detroit News he just tweeted out the Hawks are having a good off seasonason so he agrees with the UON rod Beard said the Hawks are having a good offseason
oh did he yeah that’s what it it feels like they are i forgot he’s in Atlanta now actually i do believe he he he he moved from Detroit to Atlanta covering down there
yeah so he’s uh he’s on board with it
yeah it feels like they are putting together a little something there some It’s probably the best they’ve done over the last few years since they’ve had Trey Young
uh Mr ray says “I’m here to retract my D plus grade from the draft day selection of Chaz Laneir tan cleared regarding the Beasley situation prior to the draft and waited for Chaz to fall to him
yeah I mean
coming around Mr ray
De says Bull [ __ ] it we got another one of those comments okay um yeah let’s just This is the perfect time to get Eric in right when we see Bull comments
eric Vincent covers the Detroit well covers the Detroit Pistons for clutch points man friend of the show one of the brightest dudes in the space man let’s bring him on get his thoughts uh the people are half pissed half excited i don’t really know how to gauge these people let’s get Eric to talk about it let’s get his thoughts very opinionated mr eric fans how we doing
i’m even more pissed off that Bowl is how we’re going to lead off this conversation this is not a good start
uh Eric I know today today’s been I mean it’s free agency it’s it’s hectic it’s exciting and everyone’s flying off the board uh we’ll just start here sure the boys have a lot of questions we’ll start with the signing they did make Carris Levert what’ you think of the signing the money the player your thoughts um I understand why I gotta be I got to be mad diplomatic today like I I understand why they made the move to bring him in obviously I don’t think he was a priority prior to a couple days ago of the news which I’m sure we’ll talk about um but you know since the Beasley you know allegations have come up it really changed a lot so Tjan talked about wanting to have backup plans in place i feel like the drafting of Chaz Laneir was one of them and now after the Beasley story has kicked in i feel like um Levert is now that other backup played for their wing depth that they’ve needed i mean he’s not a bad player he’s a good scoreer um you know he’s can be a crafty veteran to kind of help you know provide a little bit of a scoring punch for that second unit um he can provide a little bit of spacing and help um offensively to the first unit as well if he has to play in staggered lineups so it’s not a terrible acquisition he’s obviously a stop gap kind of guy um but I do kind of understand the Fed’s frustration with it you’re seeing a lot of teams with young players and they’re building these pieces and they’re adding these guys that are going to be around for the sustainable future and for the Pistons we’ve seen a lot of their moves basically just be stop gap guys that they don’t see being here for the near future even last year’s guys of Tobias Beasley and Tim Hardway like Beasley looked like he was going to be a long-term fit but they kind of are now still fitting the mold of a short-term plug so again it it makes sense for the short term how much better this makes the Pistons is a big question but I can understand to an extent why they would you know make the move to go get LeVert at this point
yeah eric is there anyone left in free agency right now that you kind of have on your board that you’re sitting there looking at say “Hey we need” and I know there’s a potential sign and trade situation um with the Sacramento Kings that everyone’s kind of sitting and waiting on but are there any players that you look at and say “Hey they can add more shooting add maybe a stretch for the backup point guard um now that Dennis Schroeder is potentially gone.” Um who are you looking at over the next couple days now as this thing starts to continue to play out it’s been a pretty busy day so I feel like a lot of their best options have kind of dried up at this point two guys I was really high on them maybe taking a crack at landing in some way shape or form whether it was the restricted free agency of Santi Alama who signed back with the Memphis Grizzlies or maybe taking a swing for a guy like Cam Johnson who was on a team where they were looking to reload and didn’t really have clear direction with the Brooklyn Nets but he just got traded to a great position with the Denver Nuggets as a shooter and a 3 and D defender to upgrade from uh Michael Porter Jr um somebody else I kind of thought about because again I don’t I didn’t see a whole lot of free agents personally that I thought were great fits to kind of keep them or push them to where they were going to be i feel like Beasley was going to be one of the biggest you know priorities for them and then I thought maybe the lot of the other signings were probably going to be trades for the Pistons there’s been reports that they could be interested in guys like Duncan Robinson you know another former Michigan product which is kind of hilarious but I mean based on like what they’re doing it’s I I don’t know i I kind of got a side a little bit with some of the angry fans it’s it does seem like a bit of an like underwhelming free agency period right now um to me I feel like it was going to be like this anyway because Tjan was only looking to improve in the marginal areas so the guys from your six-man to the rest of your bench like obviously they bring back Paul Reed who’s another rotational guy they weren’t gonna make a splash move and be aggressive and they didn’t really have the time to game plan for that based on what happened with Malik Beasley so yeah I don’t I don’t know how many other guys right now are like really that available outside of some other shooters that they could land like a Duncan Robinson um but as of right now yeah a lot of the responsibility for their hopes of next season are going to land on the young guys development at this point and I’m just going to ask you Eric because it’s the elephant in the room that we haven’t addressed yet what was your reaction with Malik Beasley what What do you think will be the fallout from this whole Malik Beasley situation that I don’t think anyone anyone in Detroit across the NBA community saw coming oh man when I saw the tweet I thought it was going to be that the Pistons had agreed to a deal or have something in stock and ready to agree on for the future apparently they have been talking about a three-year $42 million extension which is again more great value for him and the team and as of right now it’s probably not going to happen um again he’s not charged with anything yet these are all just allegations the US District Attorney’s office which is pretty serious they’re looking into this right now and as of right now again there hasn’t been a hammer dropped on him so it’s not a definitive ruling that they can’t resign him if they do I think it would have to be on a smaller term deal just based on what the circumstances are um but yeah I I was absolutely shocked because like this couldn’t have come at a worse time like if this were in May or like earlier in the season like just after the playoffs cool you got time to kind of prepare for it and it goes to more of what Tan was talking about in terms of having a backup plan for some of these guys that may not come back um I mean based on what we’ve seen it wasn’t a whole lot of discussion between like what the Pistons were doing with Tim Hardaway Jr another veteran that you know helped them a lot last season so it looked like he was possibly going to be the one out the door but now he may have to be the one returning just based on the scenario if they can’t sign Beasley back and then to kind of go along with the in initial report I’m sure all of y’all have seen a lot of the evidence and the crazy videos of him scoring at the last second letting letting Hallebertton drive by him like saying you know I bet on myself like it’s just it’s all just looks so bad granted again it’s all allegations but bro the internet is the internet when things add up it it looks away and so this is it it doesn’t look good and again the timing could not be worse for both parties involved especially again this is these are allegations from the 2023 2024 season this isn’t even from when he was a Piston so the the Bucks don’t have to be like the the down they don’t have to experience a downfall of this this is just the Pistons and Beasley that are suffering which makes it so much worse to be honest i uh Eric the thing I brought up to I actually brought up to Corey and I know you you’ve already talked about this i’m sure Piss fans are already well aware of this because the Utah Jazz make it very obvious that they’re probably going to find a way to move on from John Collins and I I think John he opted into his deal it’s like 27 million so if you’re going to get that deal done you probably have to trade Tobias probably you know throw in some draft capital um but people are asking for that type of move he’s 27 he could shoot the three ball i mean the lop threat he would be in the front court you would have what do you think of the player uh just to throw a name out there John Collins and just your opinion likelihood Utah kind of moves on from him relatively soon because he’s not returning obviously so they got to move him
yeah I saw some weird reporting around him from I think Jake Weinback I think was his name because there was a deal between um Utah and Charlotte where Colin Ston was traded over to Charlotte and I think there was a report that Collins was going with him i don’t think that’s been finalized but to answer your question I like him a lot to be honest as an option based on what we’re looking for so again a lot of the Pistons that they’re bringing in and a lot of these free agents even going back to last season a lot of these guys have been short-term stop gap guys guys that okay we we’ll deal with them for a year and then maybe try to find someone else in a couple years i feel like Collins based on what the Pistons need kind of fits exactly what they need at a stretch forward position right younger than Tobias super athletic plays really well in transition a much better defender than I thought he was um and even kind of gives you a little bit more on a three-point tip as well like he’s not just a standstill three-point shooter he can kind of create his own shot here and there he’s not perfect at it but I think based on the resources that you have with a superstar in Cade who can command double teams and then find the open pass to a guy that can cut or be open for a shot uh Ivy who does a really good job of commanding extra attention with his speed and his ball handling as well and explosiveness assar is a really good passer jaylen Durn’s a really good passer i feel like Collins is a really good upgrade to kind of start and then have a guy like Tobias come off the bench like I feel like that’s a huge onetwo punch with your forwards if you were to be able to add a guy like that because again he’s not just a dude that you bring in and just have for a year or two he’s a guy that you can build for three four five years if his game continues to flourish um I love what JB Bigger Staff has done with some of these players again we saw Tobias Harris play the best defense of his career last season and John Collins has way better measurables and athleticism than he does so as long as his buyin is there and he’s you know understanding of what the Pistons identity is I think John Collins will be a perfect addition for this team and the fan side of me hopes that they kind of entertain that because again I don’t he’s not a perfect player but I definitely think he’s an upgrade and could help keep them afloat in that wide open East right now
yeah he’s a long-term solution too Eric if you extend him he could he’s 27 man and to what you’re saying earlier but
Exactly exactly
yeah i mean Eric I want to ask you this because you actually obviously covering the Pistons all season last year you’ve been around the team a little bit and you’ve been able to see kind of some of these different players what they meant to the team maybe on and off the court one thing and I’ll be transparent with you and I want to get your opinion on how you feel about it i’m not the biggest fan and I might be one of on my own here with this but of the Paul Reed uh signing of the two years 11 million um in my opinion just you saw last year um Isaiah Stewart going down Paul Reed having to step up didn’t really give you what you needed um in that position and then the same you see all year Jaylen Duran ankle injuries different injuries here and there that where you in my opinion it feels like this Pistons team needs that third center and and I know it’s not like hey you can get a great guy there but we were having the conversation Click Capella just signed with the Rockets and they have him Stephen and and Stephen Adams essentially their two and three center um did you like this Paul Reed thing can you break that down is there something maybe I’m missing in this whole situation with Paul Reed to where they like maybe love him as a as a voice in the locker room or or what’s kind of the situation with Paul Reed am I crazy for just being like “Hey I’m not a big fan of them signing to a two-year deal.”
Just say he stinks Boon just say he stinks
i mean he averages he averages four and like two so I mean two years 11 million i mean I I’m not saying I could do that but I’m just saying there’s guys out there in my opinion um and and and Eric the biggest thing to me when your numbers called we need you to produce and if you don’t do it in my opinion it’s time to find someone else and and in the playoffs you saw that hand in hand that exact thing happen i can understand your frustration um I don’t think my explanation is going to help you but I’m gonna do the best I can um Tjan and the Pistons and JB for sure they really they really prioritize the camaraderie of the locker room that’s that’s a big thing that they lean on and while Paul Reed again and he was the first signing of the of the free agency period for the Pistons so you know with for their expectations to be high to kind of add somebody new you just kind of bring back the third center on a two-year deal i can understand a little bit of that frustration i do think he can be productive like he did have a lot of moments where he did slip step in well for um like Beef Stew if he was in foul trouble or Dur if he was in foul trouble or if there was an injury bball Paul did a really good job of stepping in and kind of just being that energizer bringing in some hustle plays grabbing some offensive rebounds you know making some tough shots um he does have the ability to stretch the floor as a shooter a little bit but he’s he’s not a guy that you’re leaning on to kind of change the trajectory of this team and I think the Pistons are still in need of a couple of those kind of guys to kind of go in with the young core so like again it is important to have veterans to help you know the young foundation blossom how much the third center on the team is going to do that is a question especially when some of the calling cards like again Dur needs a lot of help on defense and Bball Paul is not the biggest like he’s not really known for being a lock down defender in the paint he makes plays he does a good job of rebounding at times but that’s not really his calling card so again I’m I’m not sure of what how much of an impact that’s going to have cuz to me I’m looking at the Pistons thinking that their like window or their what they should be eyeing right now is trying to get as close to 45 and 50 wins as possible like based on what the East is right now based on what you did last season that should be what they’re targeting in my opinion and I I don’t know if they’ve added the guys to get to that point yet and I can understand seeing a Paul Reed signing being a bit of a question mark of where their direction is in terms of how they get there so you’re not crazy i understand the frustration again just the timing of it what his value is and again Kate Cunningham you’re seeing all these young stars get their guys you’ve seen them kind of get their robin you seeing Desmond Bane go to play with Paulo and Fr and you know Trey Young getting a lot of help over uh to Atlanta like you’ve seen a lot of these young guys get that cade at no point has ever played with another star in his career and that could be a little frustrating to see as other teams make moves in free agency i I do understand that
and they might not get a star
i was going to say as crazy as it is Eric like we are at the point to where like a couple for the last few years it’s like just getting players here now it’s like hey looking at these in my opinion like the third third string center you know an extra stretch big a backup point guard like there’s just these little small pieces on this team where you know once you see these small I know people are going to be like why are you mad about the Paul Reed Ball Paul those are championship moves in my opinion as those smaller you see the Celtics make like great decisions in those spots so I Hey you explained it very well i Hey I’m a outside of some games I’m a fan of Ballpaw man and the man brings some energy i do like him i just had to question it a little bit little push back on it
i get it i understand yeah he’s just one of those hustle scrappy guys and again that’s a lot of what the Pistons lean on but again he’s he’s the third guy on the depth chart like it’s it’s it’s a question of really how much he’s going to be able to contribute and what else the Pistons are going to be able to do with the rest of that cap space so again a lot leans on what the young guys can do ivy has a lot of pressure on him to kind of take another step assar has another a lot of pressure to take another step duran same thing k K K K K K K K K K K K K K K K K K K K K is not a finished product yet he has to his his shooting really dipped down in the second half of the season especially in the playoffs that has to turn around for him so a lot of eyes are going to be on them and really for this upcoming season because it can be viewed as a bit of a make or break for the Young Foundation and they need to bring in more talent Eric there’s no doubt about that but I think the number one trending topic right now at least with Pistons Twitter is the Dennis Schroeder situation where it’s a possible sign and trade what do you what are you expecting do you think maybe it’s just hey because if you look at ESPN right now Dennis Schroer’s already on the Kings roster but obviously there’s more noise around it what do you think is going to play out between that situation with Schroeder and the Kings and the Pistons i think he stays there to be honest with you i think the Kings are making some weird moves to be honest over the past few seasons even dating back to when they had Hallebertton and they let him go and even your their big man Simon is saying “Hey we need a point guard here.” And if Dennis Schroeder is their answer I I don’t really understand that but to me even for the Pistons sake like I like Schroeder and I do think the Pistons need another backup point guard i’m just not it it’s kind of similar to the Bball Paul situation for me it’s like yeah they can make an impact but how much of an impact are they really going to rely on because it I even look back to last season like if you would have had Tobias scoring 20 to 25 a game that means something isn’t right with the young with the young players that means somebody’s not stepping up or somebody’s not playing up to like what their expectations have been so for Schroeder I think he can help based on what their depth is at this team i don’t know you know what their value assassor is at this point because he hasn’t really seen a whole lot of you know breaks or opportunity to assert himself as their go-to starting um or backup point guard excuse me um I I don’t know i just I I’m not looking at Schroeder as like a huge difference maker even though they could use another backup again I don’t want to see you know Cade and Ivy playing 30 to 35 plus minutes every night because they don’t have somebody else if you can get like a Taius Jones for the cheap or something like that cool go for it but it looked like teams like Sacramento were looking to pay and overvalue Schroeder a little bit more than the Pistons were so um yeah I I wasn’t I wasn’t huge on the idea of bringing him back they only really went after him because of Iivey’s injury in that moment so again he he could help them a little bit it’s just it depends on how far you’re looking to take it and a guy like Schroeder who’s I think playing for his 10th team at this point I I don’t know i’m just kind of confused and maybe a little worried about what he could bring to this team at this point well let me let me ask before we get you out of here Eric I’ll ask you this um we’ll just put it we’ll just we’ll just put it out there look at the East right now man all right look at the East and I know the Pacers and Celtics two bad injuries obviously to their star players but when you look at the other teams the Bucks are always going to be in that conversation you have the Knicks who are making moves the Magic just made some moves the Hawks are making moves where do you kind of It’s early but just like feelingwise where the Pistons are kind of stacking up in this thing because they were what the six seed last year what do you put them uh as of right now way too early but just confidence level do you think they’ll still be in that same conversation or is there some worry with these other teams jumping the Pistons based on what’s happening i might have just put you in a trap i don’t I don’t
Yeah yeah you did you did i don’t know i feel like I feel like they they did a great job of making the six seed last season and I feel like based on where they are now and based on what a a lot of other teams have done um even Boston even losing Tatum they did a really good job of going to get Anthony Simons and adding some other players as well to make sure they’re not just you know sitting on their hands like they’re still going to be a competitive team in the top four and
the way I’m looking at it again from the teams you mentioned like Orlando is going to be good Cleveland’s going to be good um I think Indiana will still find a way to be scrappy because I like you know Coach Carile and the way that they play as a team with their depth um New York even though they don’t have a coach yet and they’re still kind of you know lacking some depth I still think they can be a top five team um to me it really just depends on how healthy the Pistons are unfortunately with the young core they all have missed significant time due to injuries and I feel like if they can stay healthy maybe they can squeak around a five seed but for right now you know if they’re playing maybe like around 60 games and maybe they’re not you know adding many other pieces outside of you know LeVert or maybe Duncan Robinson or the other low tier free agents that they’re interested in at this point like if they can’t get Beasley I don’t know man i’m I’m having a hard time because I’m trying not to just be I got the Detroit stuff ordered and everything right now but I just feel like a lot of these teams are hungry they see what’s open in the East right now they see that Cleveland even as a number one seed fell apart even due to injuries and a little bit of just underachieving altogether like it’s a lot of teams that think that they can make that splash and maybe move up because a lot of teams in the NBA can go from last to you know in a playoff position like the Pistons just did um but for me I I don’t know i feel like they could be teetering around that playin spot it just all depends on what their health is at this point and how dialed in they can be as a unit in terms of taking that next step can I throw out Can I throw another free agent here for you real quick
let’s hear it
i just tweeted it out and I’ve said it on the show a couple times well I actually have two guys that I’m I’m I’m eyeing right now um Eric but the one that I think could be a Malik Beasley replacement shot over 40% from three gary Trent Jr from the Milwaukee Bucks still a free agent currently i know I think there might have been conversations that the Bucks were working um on a deal with him i’ve tried to find those confirmations to see if that was true there was really nothing out there it seems like he is an unrestricted free agent and just still sitting there it feels like that would be a perfect fit if Malik Beasley is potentially out of this team that you bring a Gary Trent Jr in here who’s played on a team that’s competed for the championship the last few years feel like that would be a great fit what are your thoughts
i’m not mad at that at all i think Gary Trent’s a really good player um we saw what having a high volume three-point shooter did for the Pistons i mean they had it with Tim Hardaway Jr and with Beasley and I feel like Trajan kind of took note of that saying “Hey if we just get shooters around Cade he’ll be able to find them and they’ll be able to knock it down.” Um yeah Gary Tun is a very underrated player um I don’t think he’s as good of a shooter as a guy like Beasley but I mean I feel like they’re kind of around the same realm they’re not really that much different um that wouldn’t be a bad pickup i feel like um unfortunately like Beasley with the way he was ingratiated with the team he kind of stepped up into that leadership role as well which kind of gave him a little bit more value i don’t know if Gary Trent Jr is going to step in and be able to kind of re in that same kind of respect within the team um but based on the shooting that they need I would like that i I think that would be a helpful addition for them and I don’t think it would be super expensive either like they were able to to the deal that they were going to sign Beasley to it was very affordable and friendly to their cap in the future and I feel like uh Gary Trent Jr could be in the same ballpark so yeah that’s not a bad idea i like that yeah I’m tell I mean Gary Trent’s an interesting one i know we brought we brought him up but
they need shooting dude i mean this Malik Beasley thing just like threw a [ __ ] It’s It’s a tough one now because Tim Hardaway it’s like like you you made a great point it’s like now you’re looking at this thing like before it was like a Tim Hardway like he goes now it’s like [ __ ] you probably need to [ __ ] resign him now it’s like you don’t really have any shooting besides Sam Hardway Jr at this point off the bench like Caris is capable but he’s not you need catch and shoot shooters you know that that’s what they desperately need eric uh keep up the great work my friend appreciate you joining the show man you guys give Eric a follow at I am Eric Vincent covers pistons for clutch points eric keep grinding my man we’ll talk to you soon appreciate y’all thanks for having me man take care
there you appreciate it Eric
eric Vincent talking to the boys man um this is crazy hopefully we get more news
i’m hoping before 10 o’clock it’s going to be
I want to keep going i want I want to I want to if we get something I I’ll stay live solo here man
see Weezy D this is this is the thing
true
yeah whether you
Okay if it is true you just were you’re wrong like no one on this earth
that’s just a You’re This shows me that Weezy D doesn’t know ball he doesn’t
come on
i thought maybe there was a chance Weezy D did knows nothing if that’s the case wheezy
you could peak THJ every night sure but you don’t You could see THJ drop 20 the night before he could damn well go out and drop three the next night and it could be all from free throws you don’t know what you’re getting with the guy
well Weezy said he’s 66 can play the two three yeah but here here’s the here’s the thing i’m looking at it from a I get Okay you want someone that can play the three okay Tim Hardaway is not really a great defender so I don’t know if you want him playing the three uh but I I will say this he played it after Ivy went down and everything and they had injuries malik Beasley was the big must resign obviously that changes and I’m not saying either are really good on defense okay they need shooting and I think the best option for them to your point Boon is Gary Trent Jr i think he’s probably the best option i think because he’s big he’s 66 he can shoot he’s not old you know so I I like that i would rather just bring him in and just let Tim Hardaway Jr walk and I know he’s Michigan man we saw him at Rocket Classic but I mean Gary Trent Jr
i don’t know
he’s a nice player he’s a nice player man
i’m interested why Gary Trent hasn’t been talked about more over the last few weeks head into free agency for the Detroit Pistons i don’t think I’ve seen anyone talk about Gary Trent for the Pistons and I don’t know if that’s because maybe there’s not a connection and there hasn’t been a rumor to where other players maybe there has been but it is interesting to me that that just conversation hasn’t really uh popped up at the end of the day because that feels like a a person
you might be because of Malik Beasley
you might be right about the Bucks are pro I mean the Bucks are all in right now and trying to show Giannis they’re a contender so I’m sure there’s a I’m very confident they’re trying to resign Carrie Tren Jr um but the Pistons you’d have a bigger role you’d probably make more money you know what I mean like I know it’s like you want to play with Giannis i get it but
but if if you add if if you’re Gary Train you’re sitting there being like I can go to the Pistons and make the Pistons
one of the top teams in the East as well
because the Pistons to the point we’re talking about for the Pistons and Bucks like you could you don’t know which team’s going to be ahead of who like I don’t see the Bucks ever making another push like they have anytime soon so you’re shooting for hopefully the five four seed with the Bucks you’re asking the same thing with the Pistons too the Milwaukee Bucks so you’re sitting there it’s an older team and on top of that as well you don’t know how long gonna be there yeah and he could be traded this year at the trade deadline for all we know damen Lillard’s coming off an Achilles injury so it’s like one of those situations to where you’re sitting there if you’re Gary Trent hey if I have an option Detroit or Milwaukee a little bit more money like you said Jeff in Detroit situation in my opinion right now it’s crazy to say I would say the situation in Detroit potentially could be better if you’re a player that can make a massive impact like that and change the game a little bit so
and it’s not it’s not the old Pistons it’s kind of like the Lions thing it’s like the Pistons are it’s a tough attract like free agency destination i don’t think that’s the case necessarily anymore you know they have young guys kad’s Kad’s a player you want to play with he’s he’s he’s unselfish
yeah so he’ll give you he’ll he’ll look at Malik Basley he’s a perfect example malik Basley came here and re not I don’t want to say revived because he was actually a really good three-point shooter but
he was but look at his stat before he got here
yeah he had a great year here you know I mean in that role and I’m sure that’s why Caris it makes even more sense you have a guy like that you can score but
Malik the year on literally Jeff this is perfect want to know why malik Beasley two years ago was essentially in Gary Trent position in Milwaukee he was in Milwaukee played 79 games started or played 30 minutes a game he shot 41% from three and averaged 11 points per game he comes to Detroit right goes all the way from 11 points to 16 points per game and just gets more opportunities um because of the openings with guys like Kade and and and kind of the the way that everything’s played here what did Gary Trent Jr do on the Bucks so Malik Beasley last year averaged 11 points per game on the Bucks what and and shot 41% what did Gary Trent do this last year on the Bucks 11 points per game shot 41% from three exact same from when Malik went from the Bucks to the Pistons i would say you go after that i I I really I really do and both of those guys too like Gary Trent averaged like 18 on the Raptors 15 16 17 or more
malik Beasley earlier in his career averaged 1920 on the Timberwolves for a little stretch but Gary Trent did it more consistently throughout his career than Malik Beasley did so um that that that’s where I would be like hey and he’s younger too I believe
yeah he’s 26 yeah Malik Beasley is 28 so I mean you can get you could probably get him around I would guess a similar price as you were going to give that uh $40 million deal to Malik Beasley to and you could get him around the same price two years younger
yeah i listen I mean I I get people and fans wanting more i understand that not saying you shouldn’t ask for more but what I’m saying is let’s let this thing play out uh tonight obviously you got Caris Levert now nothing else has happened yet not everyone’s going to be signed today there’s still some guys out there that can contribute now how much better does that make them we’ll find out when everything’s finished all right we’ll find out when we get closer to the season but if you expected a big move like uh similar to what the Rockets did with KD it was it was just wasn’t going to happen and I’m hoping I still hope that John Collins or or you know a player like that could be a move where people get excited and you know like hey you got someone that like Eric said you want someone that you you go get that you know will be a part of the future like Tobias Harris they signed but you knew that was a short-term solution like they he’s not a part of the future you know what I mean he’s just a short term he’s a good fit but that’s it
30 31 difference type of guy
yeah exactly you uh exactly at 30 by himself just 30 30 plus wins by himself but I uh but I I what a statement
John Collins 27 you extend like he can be here for the next five years four years so I I get it
i get it so we’ll see what happens we’ll probably do a grade at some point this week i’m not going to give anything out today i mean we haven’t even gotten through it’s only been one signing
i’m I’m mad that there’s nothing else i’m like this whole Don Schroeder thing i don’t know why we just haven’t gotten uh like how has that not gotten pushed through yet that’s probably something you might see tonight hey I mean remember the uh the Luca trade happened at like 1:00 a.m so man past uh like midnight you never know you know two GM’s talking let’s do this man no one’s sleeping tonight and you got to look at the time the time zones too if you’re talking to the Kings they’re a couple hours behind so you know just wait tan might work tonight you might see something h happen don’t even Don’t sweat it man stay patient we’ll react to it tomorrow we’ll share our thoughts appreciate Corey appreciate Eric appreciate you all um subscribe share the show and uh keep supporting we’ll be back tomorrow 8:00 p.m but until then much love shout out Coach Walk by the way and I want to give another shout out to uh Diggity Dog i didn’t read it earlier congrats on 14K lad silver play button on the way appreciate it Diggity Dog appreciate Steve oh
that’d be crazy huh
we’ll be back tomorrow peace

The Detroit Pistons’ front office has been an outright disaster, forcing Cade Cunningham to shoulder the weight of a franchise that refuses to build a serious contender around him. Year after year, he’s handed a patchwork roster of mediocre role players and empty promises, and now the rumored additions of B-Ball Paul and Caris LeVert are somehow being pitched as progress when they won’t even get this team close to the play-in. It’s hard not to feel like Tom Gores is running some sick joke, deliberately sabotaging Cade’s career by denying him any chance to compete at a real level—because making it to the first or second round isn’t competing; conference finals and championship runs are. If ownership and management won’t uphold their end of the bargain, Cade should seriously consider demanding a trade before the Pistons waste every prime year he has left.
Really
Giovanni Manu gonna bulldoze!!
