wizards fans it’s time for the 2025 NBA draft and we are live all first round long here on Locked on Wizard stick with us going to be a blast tonight you are Locked On Wizards your daily Washington Wizards podcast part of the Locked On podcast network your team every day dc family this is Lockdown Wizards where you’re part of our family and we welcome you to tonight’s coverage of the first round of the NBA draft we are live here on YouTube you can check us out on Twitter locked on Wizards as well and this is an open book for everyone here tonight i’m Ben Strober my co-host Abdullah Yubi will join us in about five minutes or so when NBA draft coverage officially begins here on ESPN but this is an open book for everyone to chime in the chat here we’ll be answering all questions engaging the temperature of you Wizards fans as we get ready for the NBA draft this is going to be a blast i got on my John Wall jersey right now for good luck because I I feel like it’s about time the Wizards get some luck here we didn’t have the luck that we hoped for in the NBA draft lottery end up with a six pick but with the reports right now the betting favorite to be the sixth pick in the draft right now is Ace Bailey dante Ro Dante Rogers in the chat here most definitely need Ace Bailey that’s the pick for me if he’s there between even if it’s just him or Trey Johnson at that time I’m 100% all in on Ace Bailey i think this team needs a superstar caliber player we need somebody that will be this team’s alien because I think we’ve lacked a real superstar here for quite some time jw world rather have Trey Johnson but I’d totally be fine with Ace i I think it’s a good dilemma to have if you have the ability to have either Johnson or Ace Bailey i think one of the things that we might run into tonight is uh the fear that Brooklyn might actually end up trading up in this draft brooklyn has five first round picks and they’re not going to take five picks in this draft so I expect them to be active in some way we’ve seen the reports that the Wizards have been very active as we speak trying to trade up from 18 maybe you get a guy like your Derek Queen give me Give me Johnny Davis oh wow who we got Jag johnny Davis need offense especially three-point shooting yeah I think that’s why Trey Johnson would be a great fit here obviously you just traded away your best three-point shooter in Jordan Pool so I I think Johnson completely makes sense here just saw Danny Wolf get introduced here on the screen i have it up on the TV right here to my left just kind of watching the coverage as we go through here as everyone’s kind of lined up right now uh right below the board says the future starts here draft 2020 they already took this picture so I guess they just recreated it again i love Queen he’ll be a better player than Sorber but Sorber fits better in my opinion next to Sar i love Thomas Sorber another guy that played locally uh collegiately at Georgetown probably the best rebounder pound-for-pound in this entire draft class which is something that I’m really interested in for this Wizards team because uh the point that a lot of people have made with Malawatch is I don’t know if I want to have another seven-footer on this team that isn’t a great rebounder he averaged six rebounds per game in his first year at Duke so it’s an interesting thing to think about will Alex Sard develop to be a better rebounder derek Queen was a rebound away from averaging a double double in his time at Maryland i got to call plenty of his games at the University of Maryland uh so if you want to call me bias from that sense that’s fine but I think he fits the mold for the way the NBA is evolving right now to be almost more European style it’s more about uh the technical aspect of the game not about athleticism love to trade up for Sorber or for Queen from 18 yeah I think that’s the plan i I think the Wizards will 100% make a move at some point tonight i think that’s the expectation whether they move up from 18 to get one of the guys that you mentioned there Jay or they move up from six to get Ace Bailey because they’re afraid someone like Brooklyn will move up to get him or New Orleans now the smoke is that New Orleans is very into Ace Bailey as well because we know the preferred destinations for Bailey are Washington New Orleans and Brooklyn so it’s going to be crazy i think it’s going to be a wild night we have Sham’s notifications on on high alert here to make sure that we are up to date and keep you up to speed for what happens here tonight in the draft queen isn’t good enough to go six in my opinion and Mawatch will fall i think Malawatch definitely falls actually past six uh so earlier I was working on 1067 the fan on the B Mitch and Finley show and we did a mock draft and the draft really starts at three as we know because I think Dylan Harper is is locked in at two for San Antonio the Wizards had called San Antonio previously to see if they can inquire about that second pick however that was not available per San Antonio so what I had right here was Edgecomb going to Philadelphia at three khan Canipple goes number four to Charlotte and in a surprising turn of events I really hope this happens because this would be ideal for us Wizard fans is that Jeremiah Fierce goes fifth overall to Brooklyn who trades up with Utah then I think the Wizards get Ace Bailey at six and then Trey Johnson goes seven to New Orleans pairs alongside Jordan Pool and then you have the idea of Utah being back at eight now in Modawatch being available i don’t know we just we’ve seen the reports that Washington is the most intrigued by Bailey but also Jeremiah Fears is a guy that has worked out multiple times with this Wizards franchise and the reporting that he had done a private workout at Georgetown University that was almost like a secret thing from the media i don’t know big Hoya hey man I’m I’m a Maryland guy but I got a lot of respect for Georgetown dante did you see the news today uh Georgetown and Maryland opening the season at Expinity Center i I’m definitely gonna have to be in attendance for that one that’s a matchup that we haven’t seen in quite some time and I’m really excited for a new era of Maryland basketball to begin that way with a DMV matchup game uh really looking forward to that i think my biggest thing that I’m wondering right now that if the Wizards do get Ace Bailey in this draft what the lineup looks like because Bailey wants to go somewhere where he is instantly going to start and be a ball dominant player and we’re going to see the role of Bub Carrington uh expand a lot this offseason that’s primarily why you get rid of a guy like Jordan P because you want to see Bub Carrington emerge as a player and as Lenell said last night or rather this morning on the Lockdown Wizards episode is that Bub essentially has the keys to the franchise right now it’s sink or swim and the expectation is that Bub Carrington swims and he’s able to uh you know rise to the occasion here pretty illustrious first year for Bub Carrington played in all 82 games all NBA rookie second team uptown Dre what’s going on my friend how we doing don’t want Malawatch okay fair see I I really like Malawatch because of what he would be as a defender as a rim protector if you have Sar and Malawatch down there protecting the rim you’re going to be tough to score on if everyone else can can play the perimeter well enough and I think it’s all an effort thing i I really do think it is and I think Brian Keefe has done a pretty good job instilling that mentality into these Wizards players they’re tanking well yeah of course so tanking again for one more season because top eight protected pick with the New York Knicks the Wizards are going to be lotterybound again we do know that but this is the last year that the Wizards have an excuse to be bad i mean after this year the Wizards are going to have no choice but to start attempting to be competitive again and now with the salary cap being completely freed up over a hundred million next off seasonason after you get $80 million off your books next off season and not to say that the Wizards are going to go and sign someone in free agency but free agency is kind of dead in the NBA right now it’s about using the trade market to either trade for super superstar players or trade for assets in the future mason Howard I really like VJ love Bailey i just think VJ defense with Bal would be great bub at the one VJ at two Bal at the three that’s interesting i don’t know if VJ Edgecomb is polished enough offensively at this point to be the starting two guard for the team he’s definitely raw offensively the defense is really really good like he’s going to be an elite defender the second he steps on the NBA floor and he seems like a real NBA ready player to me so Adam Silver is now walking out here to the podium for the first time he gets booed like Adele now so Adam Silver is currently addressing the entire draft right now tommy Loftess I don’t know who this Ben guy is but we know his ball hey appreciate it Tommy thanks for tuning in in the best situation possible alex Sar did it and now this is backto-back years where potentially a top draft prospect has fallen into the lap of the Wizards toby Altiser ace for the win everybody we can never have nice things Marissa i know you hear me complain about it too much don’t you st for no reason he should retire i want Ace but I don’t think he falls that’s how I was feeling for a long time Juice man I just I really didn’t think there would be a possibility that the guy who’s probably the second best scoreer in this NBA draft is available at the sixth pick but Philadelphia will not take him and Stephen A smith in the pre-draft coverage was saying “I have some things to say about Ace Bailey i know one team that they cannot they can absolutely not touch him not with a 10,000 foot pole i’ll get into it when we get into the draft coverage and I think he’s talking about Philadelphia for sure we should draft James Wood we should We should draft James Wood james Wood is is the future of baseball everyone sorry sorry to get off Wizards for a segment james Wood is a superstar but we need a superstar on our basketball floor in DC i’m I’m tired of waiting around we need to get our guy here in Washington and I feel like tonight could be the night ace me please i I feel like we’re playing blackjack right now you got a you got a face card showing and you’re hoping that the I ever bought when I was in fifth grade got a picture of me somewhere i can’t even get it on over my head right now with the headset on so I’m going let everybody in on a little secret right here this ball this ball is actually signed by Bradley Beal and yeah but it’s cool though it’s cool it’s a cool ball it’s why I keep it up got the Terry McLaren crunch flakes back there as well these top three picks can’t get over it’s going to drag out that’s the thing this whole process is going to drag out all night long which is so Why is there a second day for the second round that doesn’t make any sense i’m glad the Wizards don’t have a second round pick right now because I I don’t want to sit through all that we were talking about that today what the coverage will look like for that it’s not going to be like a traditional NBA draft show well yeah which bum we What do you mean bum we’re not getting any bums in this draft no bums always stars always stars in DC it’s the third draft for Will Dawkins man and last year a weak draft class i think he went three for three you hit your singles and you hit some doubles last year and guys like Bob Carrington all about Moody trey Johnson to the Wizard shout out to my guy Moody man he has been the biggest Trey Johnson supporter over the past month we’ll see if that does become the case here for us Wizards fans i’m going to be through the moon i’m going to be over the moon for either Trey or Ace and then you get a center like Sorber or Queen later in this draft wizards had by far the best draft i agree i mean I think they hit on all three first round picks all of them became impactful players in their first year and all of them got better as the year went on and we’re going to see them develop even more in year number two i think the NBA makes the milk it yeah absolutely absolutely right now Cooper Flag is uh sitting there he’s aura farming waiting for the pick draft draft coverage just bothers me so much honestly i just I hate it it’s so bad like the NFL draft coverage I think is terrible the NBA same thing draft doesn’t start till pick three yep you’re going to be mad if we take fears i’m not going to be mad abdullah might be really mad actually so that’s that’s people are going to clown him for sure if we get fears i would be a little more disappointed if we took fears but uh hey lockdown law actually I’m going to I’m going to show it right here if Dawkins trust fears I trust Dawkins and I’m going to go with that right now i think I’ve been given no reason to not trust him and Cooper Flag there he goes number one overall we’re all shocked aren’t we everybody in the chat what are you how are you feeling after Cooper Flag goes number one overall but Dawkins has given me no reason not to trust him at this point in the process and how he’s drafted so far i’ll be pissed off if we take fears but like I said I trust Dawkins i mean look it like I just don’t really think there’s any reason to get mad right now at Dawkins this is not Tommy Shepard like when we took Johnny Davis I was like “What are we doing what the heck are we doing?” And it became apparent from the first minutes that he played summer league that he was clearly not the guy and had no confidence marissa is shocked about Cooper flag going number one overall one of the can’t believe they didn’t take Jaden Daniels hey could say that about the Bears last year maybe i’m just kidding though i think Caleb Williams is a good quarterback i think Chicago will be fine give you someone that none of us have noah Essenay I think could be someone that the Wizards look into later in the first round if he’s available the German player um there’s a couple other guys that had been on my radar i mean Walter Clayton Jr if Wizards go big with this first pick here I don’t know if people be interested in him later in this first round he’s a little bit smaller he’s so clutch though he took over in the NCAA tournament i don’t know how well his game translate but I really like him as a player actually so Behringer is he’s a French player right yeah an 18-year-old um intriguing he’s a big I think he could be helpful as another sevenfooter alongside Alex Sar they’re only Yeah there are French players clay can shoot better than anyone in this draft i agree i agree maybe other than Trey Johnson I think you you could make the argument those two are the best shooters in this draft are we ruling out San Antonio making a crazy move right here no you know give me one second i’m actually I’m going to go turn the volume up over here so I can actually hear it negative 104 with a big early on in this draft i I would definitely prefer to get a guard early as well i think you need your higher upside guard earlier on in this draft if I’ve done too much research of fears it’s it’s hard to research players for the NBA draft i feel like so many players uh have similar tendencies and it’s so easy to see the best best aspects of every player the worst out of all of them uh it’s just tough to tell you know I I like to I like to reserve judgment on players until I see them play live action in the NBA for the first time but you know there’s something to be said about what you see from the tape in college or you know if you’re talking about international guys what they did in their pro leagues fears over Johnson would be very Brooklyn i agree i 100% agree ben I’m telling you if if it comes down to Ace or Trey man that’s going to be interesting it’s I mean I’m just I’m really hoping that happens if the next pick here is Khan then Ace Ser is going to be available for us

So funny they actually went to break on the wizards second pick as well 😂😂 I was pissed when it happened
I've been a fan since these guys were the Washington Bullets – I wanna say they were the Washington Capitals or something else for one year – we had Elvin Hayes , Bobby Dandridge , Bernard King , Wes Unseld , we were perennial 2nd or 3rd place behind Boston or Philly and the Bullets were exciting to watch but now because of DUMB draft rules half the teams are tanking , and players switch teams constantly and take nights off constantly ! Teams are hard to root for because I find myself cheering for the wizards to lose so maybe they can get a better draft pick , which doesn't happen and on top of not being able to root for the TEAM , I just can't root for players cause they bounce around the nba simping for strippers and playing only 50 games a year , I feel like I'm not alone in feeling that the nba is a sad dumpster fire – it used to be way more popular and I only see it getting worse . Imho
