Charlotte Hornets Add Pat Connaughton + Picks for Vasa Micic

Another day, another trade, another new Hornet, another Hornet leaving Vasameichi. See youa. Here’s the trade. The Milwaukee Bucks are trading Pat Coneton and two of their own second round picks, 2031 and 2032 to the Charlotte Hornets for Vasameich. Sources tell ESPN, “Come on, bro. This is more like it. This is more like it. We’re back on track.” I think the Plumbley acquisition was a bit step a step backwards or probably a lateral step. This is a step more in line to what we’ve been seeing from this front office about dumping players for assets. And Milwaukee is doing a madness right now with Miles Turner and all that stuff and waving dame that they’re going crazy right now. So Charlotte is holding pat, no pun intended, and remaining calm throughout all this. Let’s talk about the departures first. Vasameichi leaving town. The threat of him returning bummed me out. I I I was this close to shedding a tear on draft night when it was when it was announced that he was involved in that Mark Williams deal and them finding a new home for him this quickly. Whether it was it’s Milwaukee or Fenerbach in Europe in Turkey. Don’t care. He’s gone. Not worried about it anymore. Best of luck to Vasumich wherever he ends up. Pat Coneton coming to Charlotte plus two seconds. the two seconds probably the bigger deal here. Um it is interesting that we’re adding another perimeter player while we’re still figuring out the Trey man situation, still figuring out the Josh Koji situation and makes me wonder what Nick Smith Jr’s future is. There’s a lot there’s a lot in that in that part of the floor. So I think the the Horns are far from done for figuring this thing out uh from a like depth chart point of view. But I I look at this as an opportunity to uh to acquire draft picks. And genuinely genuinely with how weird the Milwaukee situation is, those 2030 and 2031 draft picks could be high second round draft picks if things go south, which is very much a possibility um that far out, right? Is Giannis there in five years? Who knows, right? It it’s it’s an interesting place to be. And in the short term, the Hornets traded a nonNBA player in Vasamichi and acquired a real certified NBA player in Pat Coneton. So that’s an upgrade just point blank period. And then when you factor in, you know, there’s no owed money beyond this year for Conetan. It’s a push salary capwise. Like the Hornets aren’t taking on crazy long-term money as a result of this deal. And Matrix and and Conetan were basically on the same number anyway. And who knows, Connet may be waved at some point as well. like there’s a lot of offseason left ahead of us. I don’t know if he’s actually part of the plans or not. If he is, again, he’s an upgrade over what Meeich would have been anyway, but it does leave a question of like what’s what’s the what’s the guard rotation look like at this stage? What’s the wing rotation look like at this stage cuz it’s pretty crowded right now. It’s really crowded and the Hornet need Hornets need to address the size like they need another power forward. Tan Salon isn’t enough, right? Grant Williams coming off an ACL isn’t enough. Miles Bridges alone isn’t enough. Like that has to be addressed um in some form or fashion. Either the veteran route or the high upside route or somewhere in between. Like all these guards and wings are cool, but we need someone that’s going to get some rebounds.
