Raptors Sign A Hidden GEM In Sandro Mamukelashvili, Extend Jakob Poeltl & Roster Breakdown
The Toronto Raptors got their big fish and their center rotation locked in. They make a couple of moves as in this one I’m going to be reviewing who the Raptors are bringing in. They extend Purle and then also we’re going to be taking a look at their entire roster going into next season. Do me a sol. Drop a like on the video. Subscribe to the channel. We’re so close to 40K. They get, and I’m going to attempt to say his name, probably going to butcher this, Sandro Mamo Kalashelli. He agrees to a 2-year, $5.5 million deal with the Raptors. What’s hilarious is there’s a secondyear player option for a player on the veteran minimum. But, nonetheless, the Raptors, they do get their backup big. He’s gonna add a different dynamic than Purle. He can actually space the floor and shoot. And I gotta say, I know it’s not a sexy name. This is likely the Raptors only move this off season, but I actually like it. I think it’s a very underrated pickup. You look at the deal, 5 1/2 mil, that’s all the Raptors could do. They were obviously working with the minimum. their spending power was very very limited going into this free agency period. We already knew that. And you look at Mamu stats regular season, you look at it collectively and nothing pops out. But when you look at his per 36 numbers in 61 games with the Spurs last season, averaged 20.4 points, 9.9 rebounds, 2 and a half assists, 1.2 two steals on 50% shooting from the field and 37% shooting from three. And he actually erupted for a massive game against the New York Knicks, making some NBA history. Mamu scored 34 points in under 19 minutes and 27 seconds against the Knicks on March 19th. That’s actually the most points a player has scored in under 20 minutes since 1977. So, this is a guy who shot 37% on 161 three-point attempts with the Spurs last season. And it’s going to be interesting to see what he is going to do in a bigger role under Darko Riyakovic’s system. I love the fact that he can space the floor and shoot. It’s going to fill in as that backup on paper for Purle. And the Raptors, I know, didn’t draft the center, but at least they finally do address that backup center with in all likelihood their final move of the off season. So, I’m excited to see this guy play. It seems like at the very least the Raptors are getting an interesting guy to take a flyer on here to see what he can do. And then the Raptors, they locked in their starting center, Yakob Purle, as Purle agreed on a 4-year $104 million contract extension. Purle’s going to pick up his 2026 27 player option at 19.5 million and add three additional years to that. So Purle got the bag. This is a Miles Turner type deal for Yaka Purle. He got paid, but this is not surprising to me whatsoever. The Raptors are clearly high on Purle. He showed his value last season over the last couple of seasons, I should say. And the Raptors, they were reportedly not willing to include Purle in a deal for KD. So, you knew this was coming and you knew the Raptors were going to give him a big contract extension and that they did. And you look at Yaka Purle, I know a lot of people are saying this is a lot of money for Purle, but he is one of the most underrated big men in the league. And by the way, big men are back. And there’s an importance of the big men once again. Like, we see it around the league. The Lakers are looking for a big man. You need a quality starting center to be a serious team in today’s NBA. This is not like what it was a few seasons ago where you could get away with not having a true big. Starting centers are back and the Raptors, they value Purle. They have him now under contract for the next couple of years. And we see his value on this team. He does a lot of good things on both ends. And when you look at the numbers, the Raptors with Purle in the lineup over the last two seasons, 42 and 65. I know that’s still well under 500, but you got to think the Raptors have been rebuilding. It’s been a couple of lost seasons, but then without is the true telling number. They’re 13 and 44 over that span. So that is just an abysmal record when they were without Yakoba Purle. So at parts of last season, he was the Raptor’s best player. You can make a case he was arguably the Raptor’s most valuable player just based on that sheer impact that he has and how he makes everybody else click even better when he’s out there. Scotty Barnes, RJ Barrett, Emanuel Quickley, now Brandon Ingram. That’s going to be a different dynamic next to Purle in a healthy Raptors starting five. So, I’m good with this deal. I think it’s fair. You got to pay for a quality starting center nowadays. And the Raptors, they need that quality starting center if they want to take a big jump next season. And they’re hoping that Purle’s going to be essential in helping this group take that next step as, you know, this was a move that was likely coming and it finally did. So, the Raptor center rotation is set and the Raptors overall roster is set. Barring a trade, this is basically it for the Toronto Raptors. They do have two spots left, but that’s likely going to go to Jameson Battle, whose contract guarantee is on July 9th, and then Elijah Martin. Those guys are going to get the final two spots. And this is the Raptors roster guaranteed. You’re going to have Manuel Quickley, Jamal Shed, RJ Bear, Grady Dick, Jacobe Walter, Brandon Ingram, Abaji, Temple, Scotty Barnes, CMBB, Mobile, and then Purle and Mamu. And then you got two ways of Chi, Rhoden, Heburn, partial non-G guarantee, Battle Lawson, Castleton, and then Martin. And then the signing of Mamu signals in all likelihood the end of Chris Bush with the Toronto Raptor. So, that’s going to be wild because the Raptors will officially lose their lone member of the 2019 championship roster. Hopefully, Buché can sign with the Contender. That remains to be seen. But yeah, you look at this group, guys. The Raptors are betting big on a very expensive group because the Raptors now, they are projected to go into next season just over the tax. And that’s pretty wild to think because this Raptors team was just in the lottery and they’re going to be a tax team. Now, the thing is they won’t be charged the tax until after game 82 of next season. So, what the Raptors in all likelihood are going to do now, they’re just going to go into next season, see what this group can do and how they look, and then the Raptors could then potentially make a trade at the trade deadline to shed money, of course, if that is needed based on the results that the Raptors have to that point. It’s fascinating. It really is, guys, because this can go either one of two ways. It can work out wonderfully or it could just go up in flames. And when you look at it and you see all the money that’s invested in this group, it’s like, are the Raptors out of their minds? Like, this is insane. What has this team done? But you got to think, this is a group that hasn’t played together. Guys have been in and out. Brandon Ingram has yet to suit up with the Raptors. So, this can actually go very smoothly. Like, we could be in a situation where this team finally gets to play with each other at full strength and it’s like, damn, this team’s actually good. or it could go the other way. And I think it will fall on Brandon Ingram. Like, I’m not putting this on just one guy, but I think for this thing to work, Brandon Ingram’s got to play like his former all-star self. He’s got to look like the old Brandon Ingram. And then Barnes has to compliment him well and take that next step. If that doesn’t happen, then it becomes very problematic. or even if an injury happens, that’s when this thing blows up and then we could see some very big significant changes happen at the trade deadline. But based on the reports, based on what’s happening, it seems like this is the Raptors group. I don’t think they’re necessarily going to make a trade this summer. They don’t have to, and they’re going to see if the results back up the team that they’ve put together, but it is an expensive roster and they will be expected to perform this season. If not, this could be disastrous. But nonetheless, this is the team, the Raptors. They fill out their roster spots. It’ll be interesting to see how this all comes together, the rotation, different lineups, all that fun stuff. But that’s basically it, guys. Let me know your thoughts on all the moves. Let me know your thoughts on the Raptors roster going into this season. Again, barn a trade. This is basically it. Let me know your thoughts. Drop a like on video. Such a great move! Was looking at this guy, remembering a few games from last season where he was just such a vocal outlier and one of their best players on the court last year against us.
Great move can't wait to see how this team looks.
The Raptors can never seem to sign any established NBA players. Every notable name ends up getting traded somewhere else, never here. Then when they pick up some unwanted, no-name bargain, you call it a steal. Do you really think all the other teams are stupid and only the Raptors are smart enough to find hidden gems?
I really like this pick up for the raptors
Raptors are looking way better than they have any of the past few Summers. If everyone can stay relatively healthy, this is a completely different (and way better) team. The East is a disaster next season particularly as the Pacers, Bucks, and Celtics all have huge injuries. Raptors could optimistically be middle of the pack and have enough balance and bench to play some exciting basketball.
A forward with almost no inside play. Big man playing the arch.
Poeltl is not better then Deandra Ayton
For that money he should develop a shot sp guys have to keep him honest outside the paint
Wanted to get him in Scottie's draft with one of our 2nd round picks. Happy that we eventually got him
