HOW Did The Houston Rockets Get Away With ALL OF THIS…

So, yesterday I made a video talking about the Houston Rockets and how they finessed the NBA. And 5 minutes later, of course, right after I upload that video, they signed Clint Capella to a three-year deal. The reason why this is so funny to me is because the Rockets don’t need Capella. Like, let’s just be honest. They’ve got Alpra and Shenun. They’ve got Steven Adams. They even have KD and Jabari Smith Jr., two guys that could play the five if they really wanted to. But then you start to think, well, if Capella goes to a rival in the West, if he goes to a team like the Lakers, well, that makes them a lot better and it’s something that the Rockets have to worry about. But if they just take Capella, then all of a sudden they don’t have to worry about it. And if an injury happens, he can step in and play minutes. And because the Rockets are so deep and because they’re so good, they’re going to be blowing a lot of teams out. Capella actually is going to play. The Rockets are going to be winning a lot of games late in the fourth quarter by double digits, probably even 15 plus. So, I don’t mind this move at all. And it’s so cheap to the point where even if Capella doesn’t really play, it’s $21 million for NBA standards. It’s really not that much if we’re being completely honest. Jaylen Green was making $33 million per year and Capella is getting that for he’s not he’s getting 21 million for three years. So, I don’t mind this whatsoever. I’m actually excited though just to see how the rotation is. Fred without question is going to start the one and then at the two you’re going to go with Amen Thompson. At the three is going to be the interesting thing probably Jabari Smith Jr. at the four Kevin Durant and then at the five Alpen Shenun but you still got Reed Shepard, you’ve got Cam Whitmore, Steven Adams. Now Clint Capella, you got Dorian Finny Smith. There’s there’s so many options for Eay Udoka to work with that it’s just pretty pretty crazy to think about how talented this Rockets team is. I’ll even go as far as saying, and I watch basketball every night. I cover every team just about. I think the Rockets have the best roster in basketball. I think last season they would have gone six or seven with OKC, but now with KD and Dorian Finny Smith and Clint Capella in a year leap from Amen Thompson. The thing about the Rockets last season is that they had Jaylen Green and Amen Thompson and Jabari Smith, all their young players, basically their whole roster was in the playoffs for the first time. And that’s why it’s so impressive to me that they went to a seventh game with the Warriors, who were not a normal seven seed, as I mentioned all the time. They were a 65 win team essentially with Jimmy Butler. They were on that type of pace. The Rockets go to seven. They’re down three to one. They’re resilient. They’re gritty. They come back to move on from Jaylen Green, Dylan Brooks, and the tent pick who wouldn’t even have played in the rotation to get Dorian Finny Smith, Click Capella, and Kevin Durant. I just haven’t seen anything like that. And the Rockets were already the two seed in the Western Conference. I mean, all of a sudden, we’re talking about this being a legit championship team. The the favorites to me in the West. The thing with the Thunder is they just gave Shay the biggest contract in NBA history. Jaylen Williams also got an extension. They’re going to be paying their players and they’re going to have to make a significant trade, if not two significant trades. That’s the thing with these quote unquote like future dynasties is you can’t afford them. And KD is about to be 37 years old and he’s on a one-year deal. He’s going to get extended, but because of that, you have a huge opportunity to be able to build around your guys. And you’ve got Shenun, you’ve got like a Jabari. These guys aren’t making that much money. Like I know for like a normal person, obviously 20 million a year is insane, bro. Like I don’t I’ll never even have $20 million. But for the NBA standards, 20 million annually for five years is really not that much, especially for a three and D wing that can also play the five in today’s NBA. So, it’s it’s super impressive how Rafael Stone has constructed this team. And Amy Udoka, I think he’s one of the top two coaches in basketball. So, he’s going to be able to maximize what he’s getting. And last year, the Rockets had the most players in basketball o average over double digits. And that’s going to be even higher now with Finny Smith. A Capella is not going to get there just quite unless he gets more minutes. But like Jabari is going to get there. Tari is going to get there. Amen. Fred KD obviously Shangun like all these guys are going to be scoring the basketball and the Rockets can defend. When you bring in Kevin Durant, your defense doesn’t take a hit because KD is still a very switchable defender and he’s got that length, right? He’s got that wingspan and he’s got IQ. Katie is a very good defender, especially just protecting the rim. And I’m excited, man. I think Durant was the perfect fit for Houston. I said at the trade line that the Rockets should absolutely 100% go all out for KD. And if they had done that, I mean, looking at it now, it would have been dumb because they would have probably overpaid. But doing it in the offseason after Durant wants to be in Houston and you’ve got leverage, you give up Jaylen Dylan, the tent pick, Dylan Brooks essentially wasn’t in this trade because you replaced him with a better player in Dorian Finny Smith and the numbers back that He’s a better shooter and he’s a better defender. I mean, there wasn’t five better defenders in terms of guarding allars last season on the perimeter than Dory Finny Smith. And then the 10th pick again wouldn’t have played. I mean, sure, maybe it ends up being a really good player, but it doesn’t help the Rockets win right now. That’s going to be the thing. It’s so rare for like the 10th pick to come in and to help a two seed in the West win a championship. Like, it just doesn’t happen. So, I’m looking at Houston and they just have so much flexibility, so much versatility. I think this is the best team they’ve had since 2018. I’d even go as far as saying it’s better than the 2018 one because for one, they don’t have to deal with the Warriors and Kevin Durant, but also it’s going to be a lot less ISO. The ball is going to be moving. The defense is going to be very good as well. And you’ve got Durant, Shenun, and Men Thompson. You’ve also complement them with some veterans and Finny Smith, Capella, Fred, and then seeing the development of Cam Whitmore, Tyrie Een, and these boys. I hope the Rockets don’t trade Cam Whitmore. I get that maybe they want to move him and and try to get somebody that’s going to be able to play more for them, but I think the future’s very bright for Cam. I think he can get hot in a hurry and he’s also a switchable defender. You want to keep guys like that. They don’t just grow in trees. And then Tar E is one of my favorite players on this team. I thought he looked great against the Warriors with his defense. He averaged 12, shot about 49% from the field, and he’s also only 24 years old. So to me, if I’m Rafael Stone, I’m keeping Cam. I’m keeping Tari and trying to get them in the rotation no matter what. If you want to shorten it in the playoffs, I don’t have a problem with that. But it’s a long regular season. The Rockets do not need to be using KD that much. The Rockets are so good to where Durant he really wouldn’t even have to play in the regular season and they still would be the two seed, maybe even the one seed. Like I know it sounds like a crazy stretch, but this team is that good. They’ve got just the best coach in the the Western Conference. They’ve got a lot of depth and but they do have KD. Obviously, he’s going to play. and he’s going to be huge and he’s going to help develop these young guys and there’s no better player to learn from in basketball right now than Kevin Durant at just scoring the basketball and you could talk about yeah he went to the Warriors to chase rings like I get that but I mean this is a guy who he hasn’t averaged under 25 since he was like 19 years old bro like think about that Durant’s about to be 37 so he’s just an absolute bucket I don’t think there’s a better pure scorer in the history of this league than Kevin Durant a near sevenfooter that gives you 40% from three 90 from the free throw line over 50 from the field and he also defends. Doesn’t need the ball in his hands. He’s not going to iso. He just plays within the offense and the scheme. You can build an offense. No matter what offense you have, Kevin Durant can play in it. If it’s 7 seconds or less if it’s just five out, like it doesn’t matter. Like Kevin Durant, he could play in the triangle offense. I love Kevin Durant and I think he’s a great fit for the Rockets, but I also understand that he is on the end of getting towards the end of his career. has his stats haven’t really shown it, but he’s got probably three more years, two after this season. So, the Rockets, they’re going to have to get a championship, and I think they will. I do think the Rockets are going to be in the finals next season, and I think it’s going to be against the Knicks. I think it’s going to be a 1994 rematch.

  1. Why did we go through all this for a rebuild just to go and get a washed KD . So are we still rebuilding or are we trying to compete for a ring ? Because if we are rebuilding still why trade a young player and picks ?

  2. The Rockets had options last season as well, but Ime Udoka told Cam Whitmore and Reed Sheppard to kick rocks. He needs to use the players.

  3. They completed that trade perfectly by getting Dorian Finney Smith. It's like not even losing anybody now. Then upgrade with Durant too.

  4. As a warriors fan i initially was not impressed with Fred Vanvleet on the raptors but Fred earned a whole new respect from me on Huston this recent playoff run. Im really intrigued to see how this rosters chemistry changes adding KD and keeping Adams, Sengun, and thompson.
