Who Is Yang Hansen? Portland Trail Blazers Pick At 16
the Portland Trailblazers drafted Chinese Yokic Yang Hansen with their 16th overall pick the first round of the NBA draft took place it happened with several trades and several high-profile prospects finding the new basketball homes one of the biggest stories of the night was a selection at number 16th which went to the Poland Trailblazers after a trade with the Memphis Grizzlies for the draft rights to number 11th overall pick Cedric Howard instead of going with the expected selections the Trailblazers shocked everyone by picking young Hansen the 20-year-old prospect from Zebo was projected to be a mid second round pick but he was drafted near the lottery in a move that executives are failing to understand that was the wildest pick I’ve ever seen said one NBA executive on the deal those jobs up there are on the line we’ve seen this type of heat before with risky and unexpected draft decisions there was a similar reaction to Anthony Bennett when the Cleveland Cavaliers selected him with the first overall pick in the 2013 draft in this case however the Blazers did not have the number one pick in this case however the Portland Trailblazers did not have the number one pick and the jury is still out on Hans’s potential in the NBA as a big man the Chinese prospect is largely known in NBA circles but at 7’2 he is a favorable length and is drawing comparisons to Nicola Joic a Nugget source just texted me Chinese Jokic about the Blazers surprising selection wrote Jake Fisher at 19 years of age it’s impossible to say how young Hansen’s potential goes but he has a promising international career with averages of 15.8 points 11 rebounds 3.5 assists per game on 57% shooting in two seasons with the Quinda Eagles young who has a whooping 7.2 wingspan is a talented and crafty scorer with solid vision and great fundamentals he’s an elite passer and playmaker for his position with a talent of grabbing rebounds and cleaning the glass the only thing holding Hansen back is the draft the only thing holding Hansen back in the draft was mobility he’s a slower old school big man who’s likely to be exploited on defense nonetheless the Trailblazers believe he has the potential to transform their team into a regular competitor in the West after giving up Afron Simons and two second round picks this summer Poland was able to get back Drew Holiday and he should make a fine addition in the back court as a tutor and mentor to the young core at the very least his presence will bolster their defense in the back court and provide some resistance against the best guards in the league alongside Shaden Sharp Scoot Henderson and Jeremy Grant Hansen will have a chance to thrive on a team rich with young talent of course with a front court that includes Dovan Klingan Robin Williams III and DeAndre Aton he’ll also have to earn his way and prove that he deserves over the other peers at the same position in a wild and very active night in the draft nobody saw the Blazers making such noise as they did but when the experts saw who they drafted as 16th it was enough to send shock waves around the entire association in the NBA they clearly have a lot of faith in this kid to succeed but it’ll be interesting to see how he fits in the future given the status of his position so what do you think about Young Hansen and the Poland Trailblazers picking him at 16th overall tell me what you think about this in the comment section down below like share subscribe to the channel hit the bell to get notified and I’m out
