brad Stevens has done it again i absolutely love what he did tonight and a couple of nights ago as well for the Boston Celtics bringing in Hugo Gonzalez they make some trades in the second round bringing four second round picks for the price of one they get off Porzingis’s contract they save a couple bucks bringing in Simons instead of Drew Holiday it’s been a fantastic start to the offseason for the Boston Celtics but yeah I think they stole this year’s NBA draft for the second straight year and I really do like this Hugo pig at first I was kind of like meh but then I went back rewatched some more film he’s 6’7 with a 611 wingspan he’s 19 years old won’t turn 20 until after next season and he’s an elite hustle player on top of all that average 5.2 points 2.5 rebounds in 14 minutes a game in the top league in Spain playing for Real Madrid probably the most famous Spanish club um per 36 minutes he would have averaged 13.2 points 6.3 rebounds 2.4 assists and a steal and keep in mind he’s playing against pros as an 18year-old shooting 44% from the field and 27% from three he turned 19 after the season will be 19 for the entire NBA season like we just talked about he’s a fantastic cutter watch this right here as they enter it into the post they go a little high low action and then find Gonzalez cutting right to the rim out of the corner he could stayed there for the three but he cut for the easy two and then once again hitting the big and finding Gonzalez and he gets a head tap this is a poster and one over the big that’s rotating into help that’s a big time dunk he’s sneaky athletic and yes he’s white so he is sneaky athletic you can’t just see him as athletic but I really see him as a Christian Brown type of player a solid own ball defender although he’s not quite as good on the ball as Christian Brown but he’s a great cutter he’s fantastic in transition right here he’s a little bit bigger than Christian Brown and he can even operate on his own a little bit working out of the pick and roll right there waiting for the C to split right here as the defender hedges for a second and then gets back the other defender digs in for a second and then gets back the C parts and he gets right down the middle for the easy layin now the three ball is what really intrigues people because if you go back and watch his U8 film it was bad the form was horrific and then you look at this year he’s coming off of screens knocking down threes and the form looks a whole lot better watch this really solid no left thumb there and it’s really nice release high release and even if you have a hand up it’s tough to contest he can be a spacer now a little bit of left thumb but it’s a lot more fluid than it was last year even a little side step here knocking it down there is a lot of film of him knocking down threes and would have taken 4.2 attempts per game per 36 minutes took 1.4 um regularly and then off the move right here not an easy shot to hit squares up his shoulders and knocks it down and he can be a spacer off of pick and roll actions like right here it looks like a little stagger pick and roll set he’s the throw behind guy they hit him as the defender rotates down and he makes the uh defense pay for leaving him wide open uh his guy had to go tag the roll man and he gets a wide open three he’s also elite at crashing the glass this is a very unique trait to just Hua Gonzalez because he crashes the glass like there’s no tomorrow he will come out of nowhere come flying in out of nowhere and this will help in the NBA because a lot of times they’re a lack of days out especially in the regular season now as for his defense on the ball defense is pretty good he recovers through that screen right there and gets the block and then this is outstanding one-on-one defense if anybody remembers Mike James from the Brooklyn Nets he’s tough and this is outstanding right here he’s like the Euro League MVP i’m like 99% sure that’s him and Ju Gonzalez 101 stops him switches on the screen here he’s got very active hands on defense using every bit of that 6’11 wingspan like right there getting the hand in and poking the ball out and then navigating off these screens getting through them and getting the deflection which leads to a run out and a dunk for his team now the rim protection is also something to look at because he is fantastic at coming over and helpside and getting a block and also keeping the ball in play like watch right here he gets the block but the ball also stays in play he doesn’t just swat it out of bounds he keeps it in play gets the rebound and wins a possession for his team now in transition give me that chase down block artist you will see that he just beats it off the glass multiple times this is a really exciting prospect and a guy that needs some time to grow and develop but he will have time to grow and develop and I think Baylor Sherman last year Hugo Gonzalez this year they’re hitting on their picks i really wanted Rashe Fleming to be a Boston Celtic though just so I could say that the Celtics stole the draft but they weren’t able to get him at 32 so they trade 32 to the Magic they pick up 46 and 57 and then two future second round picks as well so that’s a fantastic trade right there just acquiring a lot of draft capital for one second round pick um they also pick up Amari Williams at 46 who is 6′ 11 with a 76 wingspan a very mobile big kind of a modern mobile big and with Al Horford getting older he can kind of take some of those minutes there if he pans out 11 points a game eight and a half rebounds 3.2 assist and 1.2 blocks at Kentucky ryan Hammer was really big on Amari Williams as a second round sleeper and I can see why he’s an athletic big but also has a 76 wingspan so he can block shots he’s the two-time defensive player of the year at Drexel finished out his career at Kentucky but he is 23 and has shown no signs of life in a jumper he’s a great rim protector as you can see right here average 1.2 blocks per game in just 22 minutes also can play a little bit of drop coverage and that’s what he will play in the NBA like right here working off of this screen in the drop playing AJ Hogard perfectly as he tries to get to the rim that’s just textbook drop coverage gets the block nobody rotates down to box out the other big but Amari Williams could be a guy that could see maybe some minutes for the Celtics next year in a pinch now with that being said if you’ve made it this far in the video make sure to hit the like button leave me a now let’s get back to talking about the Celtic roster for next year because I don’t think Brad Stevens is done it seems pretty clear to me that there are still some additional moves to make to surround Jaylen Brown with talent for the upcoming season christophorzingis is gone in pretty much a straight salary dump his one-year $30 million contract is off the books they bring back George Niang who was making about 8 million a year so you saved 22 million in that move and as good as Porzingis was he was just never healthy he was always injured at the wrong time or sick something and it was a move that had to be made now the guys that are safe it feels like Jaylen Brown didn’t get moved before the draft so he is safe derrick White also didn’t get moved before the draft so he is safe if they were going to move him obviously you’re going to get a highle pick back and there were reportedly a lot of lottery picks thrown around top 10 picks thrown around in Derek White and Jaylen Brown trade discussions and for good reason right jaylen Brown former Finals MVP and then Derek White an all world 3 and D guard maybe the best role player in the league they do have Anthony Simons for next year now who is coming off of a season where he averaged 19.3 points a game four assists 2.7 rebounds one steal and 32 minutes a night but I I’m not sure if he’s going to be on the roster come next season yes he’s going to be 27 years old so he fits into the timeline of Jason Tatum and Jaylen Brown but is on a one-year $27 million deal and trading him could free up even more salary in the future for the Celtics to make some moves in free agency or via the trade market so we’ll see if Anthony Simons sticks around in Boston it’s whatever Brad decides to do and if you’re a Boston fan at this point you have to have full trust in Brad Stevens because he’s proven to be um if not the best the second best GM in the league baylor Shyman the rookie from last year should be stepping into a much larger role this year over the last 16 games of the year he averaged six and a half points three boards and 1.2 assist in just 16 minutes a game which was his only normal playing time but he did shoot it very well from the field and from beyond the arc uh and looking at next year this could be their lineup they’re going to have to go out and get a four because right now I just stuck Sam Hower in there at the four so they’ve got some some holes to fill if you will missing three starters from last year’s team now but once Tatum comes back this could potentially be your bench if you resign Cornet plug Hugo Gonzalez in there and that’s not bad whatsoever whole lot of white boys but that’s not bad whatsoever but yeah the Celtics I don’t think they’re done making moves i’ve heard
