New York Knicks expected to hire Mike Brown as next head coach
Big big breaking news out of the NBA. The Knicks expected to hire Mike Brown as their next head coach. That’s now according to multiple reports. He will replace Tom Tibido who is fired after five seasons there despite leading the Knicks to his first conference finals appearance since 2000. This will now be Brown’s fifth head coaching job following two with the Cavs, one with the Lakers, most recently with the Kings. He was fired as Sacramento’s head coach in December after the Kings got off to a 13 and8 start this season. So for more on that, let’s welcome in how thankful are we to have you in the building right now, our resident Nicks girl, also just overall NBA expert Ashley Nicole Moss. Uh reading online some people are giving a little push back on this. We actually talked to you about it earlier today before it was announced and you like this decision for the most part.
I like it a lot and I’m seeing the push back as well from Knicks fans. I don’t get it. I think Mike Brown is an upgrade from Tom Tivido for a multitude of reasons. Yes, they have similar experiences being coaches of the year, coaching in the NBA Finals. Mike Brown comes from a phenomenal coaching tree of Greg Papovic and Steve Kerr. 2007 NBA Finals with the Cleveland Cavaliers, coached in that. Also a winning head coach. I mean, here is his career profile, all of his accolades. I also think that when you talk about he has the best win percentage by a head coach in NBA history. I just think there are a lot of things that he has done really really well in his career. And when you talk about the Sacramento Kings, he was the reason why the Sacramento Kings started to see some remnants of success uh after years and years of just struggling. I honestly believe he got the short end of the stick in that deal. They did not give him enough time. They used him as the scapegoat for a roster that really was just poorly put together. Um but he reached the playoffs with the 2023 version of that team. got fired at around 13 and 18 uh in the course of the Sacramento Kings uh season and I just don’t think that was fair. I think he’s a lot better than what the Sacramento Kings thought of him in his last year. I absolutely like this hire a lot.
A a big criticism for Tibs was especially in the postseason not using his bench. I mean, we saw it great in one game. We talked to you and Avery about it. You’re like, “This is the guy we want to see.” And then he went back to not using that bench anymore. What do you think we get from Brown and how he uses this roster maybe a little differently or maybe even a little bit better? You know, when you come from the coaching tree of Steve Kerr and Greg Papovich, two guys who are the best we’ve ever seen do it, I think you have a different mindset on how to approach the game and then being a head coach on his own accord. Look, I think that one of the things that the Knicks made very, very clear in their head coaching search was just that we need a guy who’s going to utilize what he has in his starting five, but is a guy who’s also going to go to the bench. We cannot have more of the same. And when you’re kind of starting from scratch from the coaching aspect of the game, you can set those parameters. And I think that the Knicks made that abundantly clear to Mike Brown and to everybody that they interviewed. So, I actually don’t foresee this being an issue for the Knicks. I think Mike Brown is going to come in there looking to also change the narrative about him because people have short-term memories despite that list that we saw of everything he’s accomplished in his career. People are thinking Sacramento Kings Mike Brown and how that relationship ended and he’s a lot better than this. I mean, this is a phenomenal coaching resume and he’s a winning head coach. And again, I go back to the point of I think the Knicks made their checklist abundantly clear to every single person that they interviewed for this position. And Mike Brown would not be getting a second interview and ultimately being offered the job if he was not going to do what the Knicks needed him to do for an Eastern Conference that is wide open and a Knicks team that is ready to win right now.
You mentioned the East being wide open uh earlier today. We spent I don’t know 20 30 minutes talking about the East with Brad Bodkin here and we touched on the Knicks and what they could potentially look like uh as of right now. Okay, so look at them sitting plus 280 behind the Cavs. You guys now have Jordan Clarkson with this higher in Mike Brown or are about to be higher. How are you feeling about the Knicks chances in the East?
I’m feeling extremely confident and I hate to pile on to very devastating injuries to two teams in the Eastern Conference, but the game is the game and the Boston Celtics and the Indiana Pacers are going to look drastically different. And because of that, the top contenders in the Eastern Conference are going to look drastically different. Yes, the Cleveland Cavaliers are still a team you have to look out for. or they were obviously plagued by injury at the worst possible time and that’s always unfortunate. But when you talk about the Knicks best chance to win, the ne chance to go to the NBA finals, I believe it’s this upcoming season, you kind of get rid of a lot of the competition that you have and and due to the devastating injuries. You have the Kellyan Cavaliers and yes, you have other teams like the Orlando Magic, the Detroit Pistons, the 76ers. What version are we gonna get at that team? But I believe the most ready to win teams in the Eastern Conference are the Cavs and the Knicks. This is the Knicks best chance to get it done, which is why getting Jordan Clarkson was huge and getting the right head coach was even bigger. If they can’t get it done this season, they’re going to have a hard time trying to get it done the following season when everybody starts to come back.
All right, final question here. Uh, and I’m going to let you talk to Knicks fans, talk to everybody on social. Give me a grade for this hire. Uh, and your final thoughts to the people who are hating on it.
I am going A for this grade. Look, Knicks fans, I know we’ve been through a lot and Tibs has taken us through the ringer, but I want to say we owe Tibs a lot. He brought us to this point and now we need a head coach who’s going to take us to the promised land. Mike Brown is a coach who has coached in the NBA finals before. He comes from a phenomenal coaching tree. Like I said, Greg Papovic, Steve Kerr, he’s been a two-time coach of the year. This does not happen by mistake. He has a winning record. He knows what it takes to win. He has a phenomenal roster to work with. We’re getting Jordan Clarkson. I don’t think the Knicks are done building that bench out just yet. Trust the process. New York is up, baby. New York is up. I want a new sticky note. You had one that you were not intimidated by the Pacers. Uh, now I want one that says, “I believe in Mike Brown.” Ashley Nicole Mox, we appreciate it. She is the host of Triple Threat, which you can check out right now. Uh, new episode is up. All you have to do is scan the QR code. You can watch it on YouTube and CBS Sports Network as well.

New York Knicks Get A New Head Coach Itβs Not Bad Hiring And Mike Brown Is A New Head Coach Of The New York Knicks, And Mike Brown Was Excellent Coach, And Good Hire For The Knicks.
If the Knicks were serious about winning, they would have hired Mark Jackson – period!
Wow, I'm impressed by Mike Brown's resume and achievements no wonder reports saying his first Knicks interview was impressive. I think he got overshadowed alot in his career by small things like lockout in 2011-2012 and the expectations of the mega star in LeBron James (with literally no supporting players) winning a ring especially around at that time with higher expectations and his recent roles was just merely building with small market teams establishing young star players like Fox (Brunson) and Sabonis (Towns) duo. I wish him well on his NYK championship journey to say the least because this knicks team is not a joke this time around like this roster is literally strong in the video game and in real life statistically. If he can bring everything like he did with The 2011-2012 Los Angeles Lakers team that finished first in the Pacific Division with a record of 41-25, and were the 3rd seed in the Western Conference but improved on that completely then NYK got something cooking! But, for me personally I was hoping they would hire Ettore ' The Professor ' Messina! But he's (international) the NBA would prefer to improve their own american coaches while building other coaches simultaneously. His determination is undeniable; it's absurd that some call him just a Woodson lookalike given his accomplishments.
