This Is A GAME-CHANGER For The Grizzlies… | Daily Grizzlies News & Rumors
Welcome back to this edition of Grizzlies Daily. I’m your host, Malik. As you can see, we are back in the regular setup. Um, yeah, day two of free agency is complete and we were really expecting some we hope we were hoping for some big news and we got some just not the news that we wanted to hear. Uh, basically um and I saw this on my drive back. Basically, it’s been reported from the from the Grizzlies that Jiren Jackson Jr. suffered a turf toe injury that will require surgery. And I’m going to pull up the exact tweet right here because it’s from my great it’s from my favorite account, Grizzlies PR, which has never brought us any good news. So that’s that. But um yeah, so it’s coming right here from the team. Um while participating in a live basketball run offsite, Jackson Jr. suff sustained a turf toe injury in his right foot, which upon expert evaluation yesterday was determined to require a procedure to repair. An update and preliminary timeline will be provided following the procedure, but Jackson Jr. is expected to make a full recovery. So, with that being said, from what I’ve heard from multiple sources, I mean multiple, this injury could last anywhere from about 3 to five months, 3 to 6 months, actually. Um, but from a doctor’s perspective, I’ve heard at definitely at least 3 months. So, it’s uh it’s a rough spot for the Grizzlies because you just paid Jarant Justin Jr. five years, $240 million, and you won’t even have him for the start of the season. So, you don’t have him for the start of the season, you also won’t have Zack Edy for the start of the season, both with injuries. So, that puts the team in a tough spot, and I’m going to explain exactly why that puts the team in a tough spot. But right now, all I can say is the Grizzlies got to we they got to be cursed. Like, at this point, they have to be cursed. Every offseason, it’s something. And I’m starting to notice it’s always lower leg injuries. I mean, you fast forward to last year in the off season. Gigi Jackson breaks a bone in his toe and is out for the first basically the first half of the season. Fast forward, Zack Edy ankle injury to miss the beginning of the season next year. And now Jiren Jackson more than likely to miss the beginning of the season this year as well. So yeah, I don’t know what’s going on with the Grizzlies and why they’re so cursed with these injuries, but that’s just the reality we’re living in and it really makes you think how does the team move forward, especially with the rest of uh free agency going on. So one will have to think what’s being hap what’s going to happen next. And all I got to say is it was it’s definitely a change in moves. I mean, one minute we’re excited because the Grizzlies making, you know, necessary moves, bringing in Tajome resigning Aldama and Jiren and even Cam Spencer. And now we’re here back in square one wondering how is the beginning of the season even going to look. But the reason this put the reason this puts the Grizzlies in a very tough spot is because for one, you have to look at it from this perspective. We talked a lot about Brandon Clark being traded and possibly John Kchar. And we actually got confirmation from Brett Seagull on Twitter that the Grizzlies um have John Kchar and Brandon Clark on the trade block um and possibly KCP as well. So, the reason this puts him in the touch spot is because as much as we talk about trading a guy like Brandon Clark right now, he is the only he’s the only guy that’s available to play the five right now. As crazy as it sounds, I mean, unless you count Jay Huff, if they actually give him minutes, Brandon Clark is the only guy right now, if the season was to start today, he’s the only one playing the five. And I don’t feel comfortable with Brandon Clark playing the five and Jiren Jackson Jr. isn’t on the floor. That’s not that’s a recipe for disaster. I’m sorry. One would have to think the Grizzlies and we’ve advocated for for the longest. Obviously, you go after, you know, your main priorities, which is resigning Jiren and resigning Santi for the deals that you got them on and then resigning Ken Spencer for that team friendly deal. and Tai Drone for the team friendly deal. One would have to think that main main priority right now and it was already a priority to get a to get a center or at least a backup center. Yeah, that goes from maybe the third priority to the first priority because right now the Grizzlies are are preparing to start their season without their starting front court and they probably won’t have it back until maybe December. That’s not that’s not good that the team is possibly going to have the first two months of the year or of the season without their starting front court and one of them being an allstar. So, not a good sign. Not a good sign at all. Um I don’t even know if Brandon Clark gets shipped at this point. I think if you try to ship Brandon Clark, you wait until maybe the all maybe the deadline, maybe the trade deadline. I would say for right now I I’d hold on to Brandon Clark unless you get somebody back for good value. Um I mean maybe DeAndre Aiden, but I’ve seen a lot of people kind of go against that because of his uh work ethic. Uh, I’d say Grizzlies go after guy like Andre Drummond just the past. I really don’t know who the Grizzlies can go after because it just it’s a it’s a it’s a story we’ve had to talk over talk about constantly with injuries and it being a big big man. Um, yeah. Honestly, I I got nothing. I I got to be honest with you. I got nothing because it’s it came as a shock. It simply did come as a shock and that’s always the worst news. Uh but one one question we can definitely think about is who’s going to step up in the absence of Jiren Jackson. Um reason being um I would say um I would say a guy like GG Jackson we can expect to step up mostly because he’s going to have experience in that four spot now. He probably probably won’t be a starter. Probably not. But uh just off the bench, his bends are going to go up. So that’s a good test to see if GG Jackson is worth keeping uh instead of trading. And that’s if he’s still on the team after free agency cuz at this rate, anything can happen. We’ve seen it all. We we re we saw we saw Damen Lily get waved. Yeah. Crazy. And that actually made Giannis upset. So, um, like I said, this is not me mentioning the Yiannis news. It’s just giving you an example of how unpredictable this offseason has been. The Bucks wave Damen Lillard to sign Miles Turner. Crazy times we’re living in. Imagine saying that back in 2016, 2017, right? So, um, this all season is unpredictable, but I would say expect a guy like Gi Jackson to step up. Maybe even expect a guy maybe expect Cedric Coward to step up. you know, maybe he takes an early leap and uh develops well into his position. Uh maybe Santi Alama makes the most of his minutes. He’s going to have extended time. So, I would say really the Grizzlies can focus on getting a center and maybe you deal with Aldama coming in at the four. I gotta be honest, I personally do not like that. Mostly because Santi Alama still has flaws in his game specifically on the defensive side and I’m thinking of a world where Santiama is guarding Anthony Davis or Jiannis Dumpo. No, I I I I can’t I can’t fathom that thought. So, uh, I would say just focus on getting a just focus on getting a back a front court that can last a good amount of season because basically we’re going to have to this season’s going to go like previous seasons and it’s already off to a bad start. So, we really just got to hope the front office comes up with something because it’s that’s a big blow to compared to day one of free agency. That’s a big blow. Um, yeah. I I like I I’m I’m trying to come up with things for for you guys, but I I gotta be honest. I Nobody prepared for that. Nobody prepared for this. So, we just got to hope for the best and hope that we get some good news out of this entire thing. But, I guess switching into good news. This is just something slight. Um, this is a reported by Jeff Goodman on Twitter. Um Tennessee State University head coach uh Brian Penny Collins uh has stepped down from his position immediately to accept a coaching position with the Memphis Grizzlies uh joining Twamaso staff and funny uh fun story about um Brian Collins. He actually used to be teammates with Eelo. So uh yeah, pretty pretty good pretty good signing right there for the front office. Like I said, I we kind of expected it that um that the Grizzlies would go more towards signing guys that Elo were familiar with. Um still a possibility that they could bring in a guy like Jared Dudley who has uh experience with the um with the NBA and all types of things. But, uh, yeah, I’d like the addition I like the addition of I like the addition of bringing in a guy like that to ease a little staff. Somebody that’s familiar with all levels of basketball. And, um, yeah, he’s going he’s going to be a development coach. Um, like I said, they were former teammates, so they’re very familiar with each other’s style and what they can bring to the table for both parties. Um, and then not to mention Collins built a winning culture at Tennessee State. Um, in his seven years there, they reached the tournament, uh, they reached the conference tournament multiple times, uh, in the deeper part of it, and he’s actually led them to more wins than losses in majority of his years. So, I like the addition, and hopefully we see more like it. We’re going to hear more news about who’s coming to easel staff as the year comes down. So, we just got to kind of wait and see what the front office does. So, two main priorities, getting a getting a front court that’s going to last into the beginning of the season and also getting more guys on EL staff. Um, yeah. So, honestly, that recaps day two of free agency. Obviously, um, quiet day for the Grizzlies except for the Jiren Jackson news, but no real moves happening. Hopefully, we hear something later, uh, later today as well. So, uh, if we find out, definitely have that for you guys in the next video. They just have to keep Bagley now. He wasnt bad when he did play
JJJ was never worth that $. Super mid in the playoffs
We literally can play jay huff he’s solid
Yeah, @cannon575. Keep Bagley. I've been saying since last year trade Clarke. I'd rather see Clarke at the 4 with a stretch 5. Memphis is cooked if JJJ and Ja don't both play at least 65 games.
Naw we need to trade BC
They have some solid post plays working out for summer league now. Lawson Lovering 7'1" 250 lb mobile big from Utah
You guys out there in Lala land are not honest. JJJ is a very good player, but he aint a bonafide superstar. The know on JJJ is he got the Westbrooke vide. How many times have I shook my head after JJJ made a dumb play? He still fouls in the half court and takes dumb fouls. In one game he will take like 15 threes, and then the next game he takes 5 threes. He can't pass out of the double team, still can't dribble straight. JJJ shoots 47% as a big! As a big! If you look at his numbers they are identical to Rudy Gays. Averages 15/5/2. Jaren just taller and blocks more. When I watch other teams, they play smart with poise. Watching JJJ and Ja, they play reckless, no mid range shot. JJJ only scores inside, and Ja the same. Lets be honest folks we are just normal team. We just over hype our players.
Grizzlies gotta play small ball for the beginning of the season
Story continue with Memphis and bad luck with injuries … This is just crazy … What are doing the physical training staff !?
Jay Huff is good and certainly much more than Santi, especially on defense.
Honestly this don't disturb me to put Huff at five and why not Brandon Clarke or Santi at 4.
In all case I find Edey at 5 very not interesting even in long term for the team. This guy is too slow for the rythm and Memphis phisiology, and we need a better center than him.
Then yn's heard her say her neighborhood quiet and they on they way 😅
