you’re just joining us, this is day one of the bracket stage. Group stages have already completed. Well defended at the rim. That’s going to be blocked going the other way as Carter McCoy with his first minutes of the game. Starts with a block. He’ll drive to the basket up for two. No good. Last touch by Dude Felen on the out of bounds. [Music] [Music] 5 seconds on the shot clock. We’ll have to get up some kind of shot that a traveling violation will be the call with just two seconds remaining. Actually, I believe. Let’s see. Could be out of bounds call. That is the call. Out of bounds. Picked to the corner. Takes the three. Has space. Knocks it in. [Music] Buckland great on that last three-pointer. That’s their first bucket of the game. Thought about splitting defenders. Instead, hesitates, takes a fading two-pointer from the free throw line. No good. from the corner. Three ball good. Lachlan crate dropping in the tray. That is their second three-pointer of the game and an offensive foul call. [Music] It has been a tough time for China. They started off strong. Strong defensive presence getting steals. went up 6 to start the game and then from there on
a 24 and4 run for New Zealand. screen left, bumps, makes solid contact on the second opportunity. Kick to the corner. Another three-pointer. Could fall, but doesn’t two wings the ball up top around to the right corner. three drops in. William Shang with the three. That attempt doesn’t fall for Goodman. And that’s going to do it for the first quarter. 2413. That’ll do it for the first quarter. New Zealand strong start, but China found a little fire right there at the end with the three. We’ll see if they can ride that momentum and make a comeback in the second quarter. We’ll be back with more action. [Music] [Applause] Complete. [Applause] [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] Hallelujah. [Music] Hallelujah. Welcome back to play. Start of the second quarter. Found a knocking down a three moments before the end. of that first quarter. [Music] And that was Carter Hoy. [Applause] Big finish. Deep three attempted by Buen Jang. splitting defenders, hesitating. Well defended, but maybe a little too well defended as a foul is called on the layup. And Juan got that arm out there. Excuse me. See Juan got that hand out there trying to defend ball. They did a decent job, but just a little too much behind it and swatted that arm. First free throw drops in and the second one up on the way and good. [Applause] hesitated. Traveling violation would have been a beautiful big play for Siphon and Wong. It’s a great finish, but you can’t do that with your steps. Got to get a clean step off. Three attempted. Three is good. [Music] The Jackson ball sitting at five points in the game at the paint. Drops it in and one opportunity for Buen Jang. Look at on both sides of the ball. No one player is standing out as the leading scorer except for New Zealand Hayden Jones. But there’s a lot of sharing the ball, a lot of team effort still on both sides. Hayden Jones with nine points. As we also see on the flip side, Ben Cheng, he’s the leading scoreer for China now sitting with six. Back door cut layup is good. Jackson ball and one opportunity their own on the flip side. Number four, ball shot misses into the hand of Zu. [Music] [Applause] [Applause] mid-range shot just inside the three-point line. Drops in as the clock was getting close to expiring. Denu with six points. He’s currently three for six from the field. Ball goes out of bounds. Last touch by ball. Substitution for China.
Neither team has been excessive with their turnovers. Right now, New Zealand leading with five turnovers, while China only has four. Most of what China has going for them with why they’re trailing is just missed shots. They’re 8 for 22 overall. [Music] Additionally, they’ve only hit one three-point. There is another three-pointer as I mentioned it for New Zealand, but New Zealand’s getting all kind of opportunities. They’re knocking down threes. They’re getting up plenty of good shots they’re making and they are making their way to the free throw line. They are six for eight from the charity stripe. They’re also snagging rebounds. Currently 18 rebounds. China’s nine. Ball tipped out of bounds. Last touch by China. Well defended forcing the turnover. [Music] And it wasn’t even a poke loose. It was just mishandled the ball and went out of bounds. Solid screen set to help give some space. Pass to the corner. Drive put out of bounds. So, that’s something I was talking about in a uh broadcast yesterday is that’s one thing that these younger players are still needing to learn is their awareness of space from the corner on the wings, stuff like that where something that professional teams and college teams teach is to launch off with your plant foot. Uh too many times these players will take a step backwards with their Dawn plant foot and that’ll take them out of bounds. Ball stolen. Fast break. Splitting. Slamming. Wow. Hayden Jones finding all that space on the play. We have a timeout on the floor. We’ll pick up what we were talking about with that out of bounds step once we return. [Music] I’mma take one for the team. You know I’m living a dream. You know I’m living a dream. They put me up in the ring. I’mma take one for the team. You know I’m living a dream. You know I’m living a dream. Yeah. Get your tickets now. [Music] Returning to play 3818. As we were saying, that plant foot makes a big difference in what they teach at the higher levels of this game. We were talking about it because we’ve had about three, four, I believe four moments total where a player has stepped backwards with their nonplant flip from the corner and got called out of bounds, which makes sense. But there’s three big benefits that you learn from pushing off with your plant foot. One is not stepping out of bounds. You learn to keep your feet planted, push off with that plant foot. You’re not going backwards. You’re going forwards from the start. Another benefit is the reduction of travel calls. These officials at this FIVA level, they are eagle-eyed. They are very good at what they do. And they notice when you pick up both your feet to start a drive. The third one, and this is one of the bigger elite moves, is the fact that you’re not giving away the fact that you’re driving. When you go backwards to go forward, that gives more time for that defense to react and cut you off. Your foot goes backwards to the right, they’re knowing you’re going to go left. So, it helps give better control and less reaction time for the defense. Those are the three big benefits of learning to push off on the drive with your plant foot. drive to the basket underneath. Tried to go on the reverse sides layup. Lee Leu will be called for the foul. That that just came in in the chat. Three-point shooting is on point
for New Zealand. They are shooting 56% from the field. And when we focus on just their three-point shooting, 54% as they are seven for 13, 19-point lead for New Zealand. Yang passes off. Foul called on the floor. 134. Pass to the far corner. Stops. Hops a two. No good, but will draw the foul. Little line. for Mach called for the foul. It is only their first personal foul. [Music] One for two during the visit to the charity stripe. Offensive rebound and a chance to expand on the possession. Pass to the corner. Step back. Takes the three. No good. [Applause] [Music] Jackson ball called for the foul. Let’s go and take a look at this and bumps off of him. Yang at the line. [Music] First shot made right now during this possession alone. China shooting two for three from the from the stripe. Make it three for four with one more on the way. in the post. Ball gets knocked away. It’s still loose. Nobody’s picked it up yet. And now they have China. Yang passes it off. Drive to the basket. Up for two. Good. Buenang through the contact able to get it up and in. Foul by Halifanoa. That is their third personal foul. They are currently sitting with foul trouble here in the first half. 43-28. We’ll be back with more action after this. [Music] Don’t sh [Music] I’mma take one for the team. You know I’m living a dream. You know I’m living a dream. They put me up in the ring. I’mma take one for the team. You know I’m living a dream. You know I’m living in dream. Get your tickets now. As we return to play, Jang with the made free throw. Ball ripped away. No, it’s going to be a jump ball call.
It’s going to stay with New Zealand. New possession, but not a new shot clock. for number five. Third person 44 from China. Number six, Chick. New Zealand with the possession. Running out of time. Ball’s going to be stripped away from behind. Fast break. Corros offensive players, they’re going to slow it down. They didn’t see the opportunity they wanted. Drive to the basket. Kick behind into the paint. Going to be overthrown as it lands in the hands of Havoy. Boy looking to set a screen on the left side. Ball gets lost. Isaac able to pick it up.
Draws the foul. So over the limit on fouls. Isaac will go to the line to shoot two. China has cut into this lead. New Zealand was leading at one point by 20 points. They expanded to 13 on the made free throw. And now up 14 with 238 remaining in the first half. Bang takes the three. No good. The boy with the rebound. Great dump off. Big slam at the rim. Lachlan crate on the finish. Tama Isaac with the dish. Quick steal. Another opportunity expanding the lead for New Zealand. But boy, the crate over to the right side. Balls knocked loose. Diving for it. What a great pass from the floor. a boy to ball direction. Plump three. The ball to the basket. Too strong. Rebounded by Plum Tree. Tried to get a crossover play going. Diagonal pass to Jackson. He’s going to redirect some of the traffic. find an opening on a play. Ho boy set the screen. Pick and roll by Hoy. A cut from the left side. No made basket, but Crate will go to line to shoot two. [Music] Jo number 14. So
with 107 remaining, a foul called and that should send Wang to the line for free throws. They’ve already taken two free throws but missed both. Wang yet to score in this matchup. First free throw is up and good. And goes two for two during the visit to the Strike. [Applause] Sideline drive. Alley toss. Overthrown. Just great awareness of the opportunity for a play. Just didn’t execute it perfectly. He’s overthrown. 55 seconds remaining. Would have been one heck of a highlight play if they finished it. Offbalance shot on the bump. will go to line for two. It’ll be Al Fang to the line. That is the second personal foul for Oscar Goodman. [Music] [Music] Bang knocks in the first free throw. That’s their first bucket of the game. [Music] [Applause] 5035. A drive to the right baseline. Fade to pass over to the wing. Out of bounds. 3.7 left on the shot clock. After that, there will just barely be enough time for a another shot clock after it. Puts up a prayer of a shot. No good. Rebounded by China. Shot clock is dead. Pushes their way and drives their way to a basket at the rim. [Applause] Isaac green left. Deploy gets a put back layup at the buzzer. Hayden Jones. 13 points in the game. And we will dive right into these box scores. Starting with Hayden Jones. 13 points, five for five from the field with a three-pointer made by Hayden Jones. Three rebounds, two assists, as well as a block in this game. Another top performer, Jackson ball, nine points. three for six from the field with one three-pointer made, two rebounds, three assists, and a block. On the flip side for China, uh Xang Chen with 11 points, four for six from the field, two three-pointers made as well as a free throw, two rebounds in this game so far. Jiang 11 points, four for six from the field with a three-pointer, two for two from the charity stripe. They have one rebound, one assist. Another honorable mention of sorts, Sun and Juan. Only two points in the game, one for three, but they have four blocks. They got those early. 5237. We are at halftime. We will return with more action after the break. Here’s some highlights. [Applause] Since 1962, warriors have fought for the crown, creating legends with every battle. Yeah. Warriors turned into princes, princes into kings, and kings into heroes. Now a new battle begins. It was a strong showing from New Zealand in this game, but now China has found a bit of their footing that they’ve been able to match and then also close in on the lead here and there. Largest lead of the game has been 20 points for New Zealand, but they haven’t really come too close to getting back to that point. New Zealand with a turnover. That’ll be an offensive offball foul. control from China number 13 [Music] into the lineup as Juan will have their fourth personal foul after that offensive charge. Plum Tree drives, spins at the elbow, dumps it off to a teammate up for two. No good. Offensive rebound. Second chance opportunity. Jones baseline off the glass. Traveling violation is the call. He picked it up and then took a few steps before taking the shot. two stops. Takes a three. was looking for contact but didn’t get the call. Isaac to the corner. The plum tree number 13. So far scoreless here in this fourth quarter. Plum tree gives off to Isaac. A boy looking for space gets off the glass and good. A 7972 matchup. [Applause] Deep three just a little bit beyond range for Buen Jang. He’s got 21 points in the game. Their leading scoreer thus far. Made quite a few big plays right now. Rim protection’s not going to be a great asset for China as their leading blocker is on the bench with four fouls. Cinnen has six blocks in the game. Three of them came within the first minute and a half of the game. Three attempted, no good. Offensive rebound. Jones got in there and got the long rebound. [Music] Foul called and one. Hayden Jones has 16 points in the game. Is six for 10. A perfect three for three from the charity stripe so far. We’ll see if he can add on to that during this visit with one. Jones to the line. Free throw is up and no good, but Hoy able to get the rebound. Another opportunity. tries to dump it off to boy. No,
no dice as it’s intercepted. Then Juan back in the lineup. We’ll see if they can avoid fouling out this game. They’ll be a strong asset defensively as long as he’s keeping his hands straight up and defending the rim. Bang to Zoo. Steps back, takes the three, does not get a friendly bounce. Front of the rim, no good. Jones to the paint. I don’t think a boy saw that one coming until the last second. Sue gets the rebound. Three on three now. Five and five. Bang takes three, drops it in. That’s the first bucket of the quarter for China. Boy drives, goes for the layup and drops it right in. doesn’t even graze the rim. Eight-point lead [Applause] and the length of S and Juan drops in another bucket. That’s 14 in the game. Excuse me, 12 in the game for them. And back and forth. It is just way up lines it seems like for both sides. We have a timeout on the floor. China with their timeout. We’ll be back with more FIA action. [Music] Don’t sh You know I’m living a dream. You know I’m living a dream. They put me up in the ring. I’mma take one for the team. You know I’m living a dream. You know I’m living a dream. Get your tickets now. [Applause] [Music] 605 remaining here in the fourth quarter. New Zealand has maintained the lead for almost the entirety of this game. The only exception was the first moments when China started off with the lead. 20-point lead has been the largest for New Zealand. Yang. Jen hands it off. Juan draws a foul on the inside. Foul was against Goodman. It’s Goodman’s third foul of the game as Juan on the second time within the paint gets the shot up and goes in. But boy and off Jones drive kick to the wing. Ball will back it out. Sets a screen on the right side. Running out of space. Goodman takes a three. No good. Tipped out of bounds. Last touch by China. So they call it against number three Yang. for a second there. I thought we just saw a foul out sitting one, but it was against number three. Now Isaac trying to split defenders. Goodman loses the ball. Yang over to Fang. Layup is no good. Rams out halfway through the fourth quarter. Jackson ball. Perimeter passing. Jones three. No good. Balls tipped into the hands of Juan Chen Jang. Yang to the inside. Juan up for two. Too strong. Backto back miss shots for China. Goodman drives euro step and floats a two-pointer in. [Applause] Isaac ball movement is going well. Layup is no good. Bang. Chen will drive. tries to lay it off and yes, lays it up and in. And one opportunity chance to make it a five-point game. [Music] So Chen will take their free throw. Nobody from China setting up near the box to try to rebound. Showing their confidence in their teammate to knock down the free throw, which he does. They’ll settle back on defense. Ballen gives back to ball and that will be a foul against New Zealand. And there it is. An illegal screen. Got that hip too far out there. Alphaoa with four fouls. Currently New Zealand two players. Four fouls. Alphaoa as well as Oscar Goodman. Mid-range shot no good. Offensive rebound. Second chance goes up and in. [Music] S in Juan with 16 points in the game.
Kick to the corner. Jones for three. No good. Rebounded by China. Ball knocked loose. It’s going to be a foul on the floor. And we’ll see if this is free throws. And it is. That is over the limit. Actually, let’s go ahead and take a second look at this cuz he’s on his own right now. That free throw will drop in. We may have seen it’s just a situation where it was two free throws awarded, but both teams just kind of gave him space to shoot on his own. Knocks down both free throws. Kama Isaac was called for the personal foul, but Chen making it a one-point game. Ball stolen. Bang. Chen driving. Puts up an off-balance shot. No good. Ball’s loose. Last touch. Believe it was last touch by Yes, it was. It was last touch by China. Juan was in there and he deflected it away. Again, these these officials are eagle-eyed. They see almost every single thing that happens. And that was a great call being able to see that Juan was the last to touch it. Had poked it away. Back door cut by ball is not seen or taken at least. A three by Isaac. Two behind the back pass to the corner. Three. No good. China just on the cusp of taking the lead here in clutch time. Corner three. New Zealand gone. Jackson ball. 12 points in the game. It is back to a two-p possession game. Shot attempted from three. It’s blocked. Fast break. New Zealand trying to seal the deal. drops it in for two and one. First one for New Zealand number six. [Music] Free throw drops in for Isaac. 9386. 7-point lead. Isaac’s going to get some rest. They also call a timeout. China calls the timeout. We’ll be back with the conclusion of this matchup. [Music] Hey, [Music] I’mma take one for the team. You know I’m living a dream. You know I’m living a dream. They put me up in the ring. I’mma take one for the team. You know I’m living a dream. You know I’m living a dream. Get your tickets now. Five more minutes. [Music] 9386. 90 seconds remaining. Ball gets knocked loose. Last touch off the knee of China. They’re going to go and take a official review at this. So, Matthew Myers and squad will head over to the video board along with Matthew. We’re here for a coach’s challenge. The initial decision is white ball. We’re here to rule on the outback.
Vulich over there watching the play as well. Let’s see. Yeah. Hold on. Let’s go back. Can we see anything? What about here? Let me see this angle. Maybe we can. There we go. Red, red, red. I don’t see any contact after red one is the last one to touch the ball.
I agree. Under his hand.
Go frame by frame.
Yep. Okay. Okay. So for me I don’t see any contact of the wild player initial.
I agree. I agree. I agree. So after review the call will remain white ball. Okay. So as we heard
they deliberated. They agreed and and watching that video, it it it was pretty clear, almost pretty clear that it didn’t even come close to really touching it. It it Well, it was close, but they did they didn’t touch it. Went under the arm. It’s possible that if they did not intervene tapping the ball um then it would have been China’s possession if it had touched them, but I don’t think it would have fully gone out of bounds as well. So, an interesting situation. Officials get it right the first time and a big finish at the rim by boy. Capitalize on the lead they already have. It’s up by nine with a minute remaining. Some big plays needed. They’ll have to have some breeze drop in for sure. Mid-range shot. No good. Plum tree. And that’s probably going to do it for this one. We’ll see what China tries to get done. Moving the ball crisply around the perimeter. Layup is good. Back up to a double- digit lead for New Zealand. The game was as close as one point here in the fourth quarter. China not able to capitalize on the position they were in. Loose ball. 8sec difference between game and shot clock. Big slam by Plum Tree from the corner to the rim. Shot clock is dead. And that’s going to do it for this matchup. 9986 as they will try to make some last second play. See if they can put up some shots to drop. But rebound by ball. They’re going to dribble it out. 9986 [Applause] here in this first round of 16. New Zealand will move on and New Zealand will face off against the winner of Switzerland and France. Take a look at the box score starting with China. their top performer William with 21 points, six for 10 from the field with two three-pointers. They also were a perfect 7 for seven from the charity stripe, three rebounds, two assists. Then Juan with 16 points, eight for 12 from the field. Had five rebounds, two steals, and an impressive six blocks in the game. Jig Chen with 19.6. six for 10 from the field, had three three-pointers with four rebounds and four for five from the Charity Stripe. On the flip side for New Zealand, their top performers, they had 1, two, three, four, five, six players who made it into double digits. Starting off with Tama Isaac with 18 points, six for 16 from the field. Three three-pointers, three free throws made out of three attempted, eight assists in the game with six rebounds and two steals. Hayden Jones was six for 12 with a three-pointer and three free throws made out of four, giving him 16 points for the game, was a rebound shy of a double double with four assists and one block. In this matchup, New Zealand started off strong. They got up by as many as 20. China had the opportunity to take the lead. They were down by one in the fourth quarter, [Music] but a slow start really put them behind early and that really troubled their chances for a win. Still New Zealand moving on further into the winners bracket. China will continue to play with classification games. That’s going to do it for this one. I’m Justin Taylor. We hope to see you at the next matchup. [Applause] [Applause] [Music]
