KENDRA SITS DOWN WITH JASE RICHARDSON FULL INTERVIEW

It still don’t feel real. What’s up, Magic fans? Team reporter Kendra Douglas here with one of our new guys, Jace Richardson. Jace, just congrats and welcome to the Magic family. How are you feeling?
Um, it’s a lot of emotions right now. I’m super super thankful to be here, but I’m just super excited to get to work and be around these guys.
I want to I want you to take us back to this amazing night. Just what were your emotions like when you got the call? Just that feeling. just walk us through what you what was going through your mind.
Uh man, it was a lot of like just anticipation of just where I was going. Um ended up getting that call. Whole family was there, family, friends, close ones. So just having that support system there cheering me on and then hearing my name called just a lot of joy. Started crying a little bit cuz you know it was a dream come true.
You it looked like you had pretty much everyone there who was all at your house and came to your house to to be a part of this celebration.
Uh close family. um couple of my old teammates from back when I was six or seven, eight.
Um, Coach Iso was there too. So, I just had a whole bunch of, you know, close people to me.
Your your dad of course is well known and well known with the Orlando Magic family as well. I hear that there is a video that you were a part of Stuff’s Castle. You got to be a part of that. Just what was it like coming to Magic Games, but also that castle experience? How fun was that? I mean, I used to run around there all the time, you know, dunking on the little rims. Just remember coming to the games Amway Center at the time and, you know, just watching my dad play and then watching that Magic team play. They had a really good team that year.
Talk us a little bit about your game. What do you what, you know, clearly the Magic saw something in you? Just what have you wanted to grow in and proven and and yes, just chat with us a little bit about just who you are as a player.
Uh, me as a player, you know, I’m always bringing the energy, the intensity. I think that’s one thing about me. I’m always going to be energetic in the game. Uh I feel like I can score at all three levels. I’m a playmaker first, you know, trying to make plays for my teammates, get myself involved as well, and then I can defend.
Have you had a chance to talk with Coach Mosley and get to know him a little bit?
Yeah, I got to talk to him um a couple days ago. You know, he called me once once I got drafted and then when I came out here, he saw me for a couple hours.
And you’ve brought your family with you, friends, brothers. I mean, just to be able to share this experience. Have you just had time to wrap your mind around what’s going on?
Not yet. I I’m still kind of stuck on what happened a couple nights ago. Um, but you know, just trying to wrap my head around it and, you know, get to work.
Mhm. What’s one part of your game, I guess, that maybe resembles your dad or if you and your dad are playing one-on-one, who’s winning that battle? Like what what’s going on with that one?
Last time we played one-on-one, I won. He’s not going to give me credit for it,
but I definitely won. We haven’t played since. So,
but I think one thing we got to do is shoot the ball. I think that’s one thing I kind of just learned from how to shoot the ball.
Yeah. What do you want Magic fans to know about you and who you are just as a person as well?
Uh I’m just, you know, I’m really big in the community. I always want, you know, everybody in the community to feel good and I’m really that’s one of my goals. Try to, you know, do my best in the community and just I’m I’m a great guy. I feel like I’m a good person, you know. I want to see everybody do well.
Yeah. Okay. So, I decided to involve Magic fans. I decided to ask them give us some questions. Hard questions. No, we got some easy ones,
but just give us a question. So, this comes from field like Paulo and he’s asked question for Jace. How did playing under a legendary coach like Tom Iso shape him to be one be a one anddone player? But overall, how did it shape you to be a player?
I mean, coach Iso, you know, he’s one of the toughest coaches in college basketball. So, I felt like I learned a lot from him. Just, you know, a lot of wisdom, a lot of advice. So, anything he he said, I was open ears. So just learning from that, you know, I learned how to, you know, defend a lot harder, watch film harder, and just all that stuff.
This is a team that likes to defend. Is that something that really kind of grabbed your attention, too?
Yeah, definitely. I mean, it kind of resembles Michigan State. You don’t defend, you’re not getting on the court, so kind of resembles that.
You’re also going to be with a lot of Michigan guys, too, though, too.
Yeah.
Hopefully you guys don’t have that clash. Another question comes from just Hollywood 407. What’s the first place that you would want to visit now that you’re in the city of Orlando?
Oo, I love soccer.
Okay.
So, probably end up going to one of the soccer games, I’ve heard. So, I’ll probably make be making an appearance over there.
I like that. I like that. And it’s literally
walking distance right there.
So, you have no problem getting over there. Um, okay. This is a good one. This comes from We have a lot of uh fans that name themselves after Bero. So, this comes from Bancero. Um, what current player in the league would they say their game resembles the most?
Oo, for me, in my opinion, I would say Mike Connley.
Okay. You know, just, you know, at his size, he can defend, he can score, he can he can playmake. So, I would say Mike Conley.
They What’s your favorite pregame song? I like this one. See, look, it varies. If it’s a early game, I’m R&B.
Okay.
If it’s later game, I’ll probably listen to some rap. So early game I’mma go pretty brown eyes, mint condition.
Nice. Okay.
And then later game, anything that’s going to Yeah. Anything that’s Ghana is really good.
I think that’s a good one that just gets you in the mood. Get you in the mindset. Definitely.
Just to be like hardcore. Well, is there anything else that you want to tell Magic fans? Because let me tell you, they are loyal. They are definitely clearly they were really great about asking these questions. What do you what’s a couple of things that you want to say to the Magic community and just you know how excited are you to see them and meet them?
