Raptors Trade Update… Kings are READY to get Finessed | Raptors News
We have a major Toronto Raptor trade update to discuss as there has been a lot of buzz and smoke about the Raptors even after Messiah Jerry’s let go from this Raptors team about more moves coming and Malik Monk has been one of those names that have been linked this entire off season. But now, especially with Messiah gone and Edward Rogers being a little bit more on the penny pinching side, there is a lot of buzz generating about a move happening in regards to getting the Raptors out of the luxury tax. Now, this isn’t something that has to come imminently as they can wait till this year’s trade deadline to make those final decisions. But given the latest developments regarding this Malik Monk situation and the Sacramento Kings not only making bad trades out there on the open market, dealing with Yonasunas for nothing as well, they are missing out on bad trades that aren’t even going through as they’re offering up Malik Monk for essentially nothing. So, we’re going to break down what these latest updates are, why the Toronto Raptors are in a position to make one of these moves, and frankly, what we should expect from this Raptors team moving forward in the coming weeks. So, lots of stuff to break down in this video. But folks, you guys have been crushing it, hitting the subscribe button as of late at that 38,000 mark. Our goal is 40. So, make sure you join this Toronto Raptors community if you want daily Toronto Raptors updates. So, hit that subscribe button, hit the button down below, and you won’t miss a single thing going on with this team. But what’s going on? What’s happening regarding this Toronto Raptor squad? As there’s been a lot of smoke the last couple weeks about one of these trades actually going down. So, uh, news came out from Mike Scatoto that the Kings are gauging the trade market for Malik Monk and a 2024 lottery pick, uh, and 2024 lottery pick, Devin Carter. Monk could help a contender add a scoring punch while Carter could have plenty of fans in the scouting community during last season’s pre-draft process. You know, a lot of people are excited about his ability to play out there on the basketball court. So, this is something that’s been going around. And then also, news came out following the Messiah Jury departure. The Raptors are still going to be looking at the trade market for RJ Barrett as well as Emanuel Quickley per Jake Fischer. And then this was all linked together when the Raptors were directly named uh as a landing spot for Malik Monk. As if a trade with the Phoenix Suns for Kevin Durant doesn’t end up happening, league sources tell Clutch Points that they have other targets in mind. The Raptors have demonstrated interest in acquiring Kings Guard Malik Monk in a potential trade with that interest dating back to last February’s trade deadline. So, there’s been some smoke over the past couple weeks about a Malik Monk deal going down and everything out there along those lines. So, why are we bringing this up again? Because Malik Monk is certainly a good basketball player. He has 17 points per game, four rebounds, 5.6 assists. And why am I of all people bringing this up when I started the RJ Barrett movement to try to keep this man on the roster. What’s going on here? Well, there’s something going on in terms of the Kings. They have a new front office right now that looks to be cleaning house with a lot of these role players and probably their star players as the off season goes along. And frankly, they are uh making some very very interesting decision as basically the Sacramento Kings made some moves yesterday bringing in Dennis Schroeder. They signed him in free agency and everything like that. But they got that. So they got D shooter for free. They knew that was going down and then news leaked. This news leaked they were willing to give up Malik Monk for basically nothing. As reported first on Monday night, this come from Brett Seagull. Uh the Sacramento initially had hope of sending Monk to Detroit in a signing trade that would have brought them Dennis Shruder to California Capital and created another opening for Kings backport to pursue Russell Westbrook. So basically the the Kings were willing to let go of Malik Monk for basically nothing because they could have got Dennis Shruder anyways. So that was happening regardless. Odettes shooter was going to the Sacramento Kings with the $50 million per year contract that the Kigs offered up to him which you know I guess he played well for the Detroit Pistons last season. So that is what it is. But they were willing to give Malik Monk in there for whatever so they could bring in Russell Westbrook who frankly on that team doesn’t make a whole ton of sense. Now, the Sacramento Kings GM Scott Perry has made some very weird decisions out there in the past in terms of looking for pieces out there on the squad and a couple days that have been floating around, you know, the the Kings is RJ Barrett because dating back to Scott Perry’s previous tener with the New York Knicks, RJ Barrett had a tight tight relationship there with Scott Perry as well as Emanuel Quickley. But R.J. of course is putting up better stats. 21 points per game, six rebounds, five assists. I’m not in favor of trading RJ Barrett, especially in a package like this. But the reason the Toronto Raptors are doing this is because they are touching they’re, you know, swiftly touching the luxury tax. And now big man at Rogers Communications, Uncle Eddie, Uncle Eddie, you know, uncle to Ben Rogers, you know, another media guy. It’s a he doesn’t want to pay the luxury tax, especially for a team that’s not great. And, you know, say what you want about Ed Rogers. I the team’s not going to be great. I see why ownership is coming from on that front, but there could be some pressure out there from the Toronto Raptors to deal away RJ and make a cost savings move. And essentially in a trade package to bring RJ Bear back to the Toron uh to RJ Bear going to Sacramento and then uh you know Malik Bunk coming here, you save about 78 $9 million which gives you a nice buffer away from that luxury tax threshold. So that’s why this buzz, that’s why this chatter is going around. Again, Malik Monk is fairly good at basketball, but I still prefer RJ Barrett. I know Advanced Stats are out there. They don’t like RJ Barrett’s game, yada yada yada. I’m still a guy that’s an RJ Barrett stand. So, that is what it is. But there’s also been some chatter in terms of a multi team trade. And this is where my eyes start percolating in terms of some moves happening because Balik Monk would be cool, but straight up for RJ Barrett, I’m not loving it. But if we are forced to make a capsaving move, there is a player that has been on my radar for a very, very long time, and that is uh Keegan Murray, who last season is certainly on a down year. He’s 24 years old, shot 34% of the three-point line, 39% of corner threes, but you know, 12 points per game, seven rebounds, 1.4 assists, and frankly, and one block and one steal per night. He’s a really, really solid defender and has been playing out of position for that King squad for a very long time. They’re making him play, you know, at 68, they’re making him play power forward, which isn’t his ideal role, isn’t his ideal position. Now, the Raptors are pretty loaded at guard, too. So, you know, with the Raptors, he might not be a good fit, but we know dating back to the Pascal Seakum era, this guy was untouchable in those Seakkum trade talks, which in hindsight is absolutely baffling that that ended up being the case. But, so we’re seeing these types of trade packages get thrown around now where it’s Oi and RJ Barrett going to the Kings in return for Lumalik Monk and Keegan Murray. Now, this completely how you value this trade is completely on how you value Kika Murray as a basketball player. An extension is likely incoming for him as well. So, there is that risk you’re handling at that point if you’re making one of these moves. Personally, I uh I mean, I don’t like the idea of dealing Oiabaji in this trade package whatsoever. I think he’s one of our more valuable young pieces out here on this team. 10 points per game, four rebounds. Hopefully can be extended at a reasonable number, but shoots 40% of the three-point line, 41% from the corners. Like Ochi Baji also brings it on the defensive end. He completely flipped the switch. When we were talking about Ochai, you had summer league last year. He really became a valuable role piece for this team moving forward. Now, this team does have a glut of those swinging positions. This trade wouldn’t specifically help it on that front, but you know, this is just the trade package that’s been thrown out there. I definitely, if I was Bobby Webster, will be getting on the phone with the Sacramento Kings to make sure that uh you you see at least what they’d offer for an RJ Barrett for these different teams because you you have that previous relationship. Maybe you could get again a bonus is not that someone I’m interested in after we brought in Yaka Purle, Dear Lavine. It’s not the greatest teams. Maybe a three-team deal where you get some assets coming back our way. I don’t know how you specifically make that work, but the Kings have been making some very questionable decisions under their new management. So, it looks like there could be an opportunity for the Toronto Raptors to finesse the Kings in any bit of trade. And let Bobby uh Bobby Webster uh set his tone out there on this Raptor team by making his first finesse to honor the Saiou jury. But let me know what you guys think about all this in the comments section down below. Do you think a trade’s going to happen? Let me know. I’m signing out. Cheers.

bobby! rj +ochai for monk and keegan. and i will forget about trust in masai forever and it will be changed to trust in bobby!
Leave RJ alone, geez. He and Scottie have a good chemistry, I like the team the way it is now.
idk why eveyone wants RJ gone he played good last year and hes young and wants to be here…
Multiple 1st rounders or an all star caliber player.. none of these trades move the needle for us/
Dumb!!!!
All these are lateral moves wtf
Not happening
wow. that stinks. seriously.
Anybody who in this comment section agrees with Ben and this trade? Doesn't know sh*t about Basketball, I fail to understand how giving up the best player by far in this trade? RJ Barrett who is younger and better than Monk and is getting paid the same amount as Jacob Poetl now. Leave Barrett Alone he's a star and keeps getting better. He's not the New Marner whipping boy now that he's gone.
Ochai for Murray , throw in a pic and then maybe. If there has to be a trade RJ for Malik Monk and a pic maybe ! Don't real want to see RJ or Ochai go !!
Id do RJ and Walter for monk, murray and a first then ditch monk for a cpl of seconds. Ochai is exactly what we need and Im not confident about Walters shooting
Whatever we end up doing, wait for the trade deadline after we get an idea of this team together.
I would love the addition of Monk in any Rj trade. Monk is a combo guard and could help back up Quick and it would allow Dick or Walter to start and both of them to get more touches while also increasing our spacing as well as give us more flexibility with this roster financially.
I like the mock trade that I heard on “Hello and welcome” that sends RJ to Memphis for Clarke and Anthony.
Based on circumstances, it's just financially irresponsible to keep RJ…..Do I want to keep him? Yeah, of course but here's the thing, you got 2 good players, Dick and JaKobe waitin' in the wing, and you have that big contract from RJ staring at you in the face and to top it all off, there's the luxury tax thing. They can't keep him!!….IQ will be next, why? Big contract and good guards are easier to find than any other positions. They're relatively normal size human beings, and there are lots of those around. Good ones too…..
Don't like the trade as it stands. Keep ochai and do a sign and trade with Boucher.
Monk is worse at everything. This would be an insane trade.
RJ for Keegan YES!! For Malik Monk I say, what r you smoking?
If I’m RJ I don’t even wanna play for the Raps. Fk y’all trying to trade me 🖕
Unpopular opinion? I agree with Rogers, this team isn't good enough to be in the tax. We'd be making life difficult for Bobby with future flexibility.
Malik Monk doesn't mind coming off the bench. He's a professional 6th man type. Would fit the roster better although RJ is the better player imo
I think writing this team off as “not good enough” is ridiculous. They haven’t played a game yet. Let’s see what Ingram and the young players with NBA games under their belts perform.
nope. terrible deal. ochai has an upside with his defense and was one of the better 3 point shooters for us last season. RJ has grit, heart and carried the team when scottie was out. if RJ proves to be too expensive to keep after the 26-27 season, we can deal with it then… but surely, we are being lowballed here and can do better if a trade is necessary.
Ochai should be almost untouchable
The Raptors need to get a warrior like Brad Marchand. OK he's a hockey player but have you ever tried him at playing basketball?
Quickley
Murray
Ingram
Scottie
Poeltl
Bench:
Monk
Walter
Mamu
CMB
Mogbo
Dick
Battle
That's a solid team, and along with Mamu gives up the 3pt shooting we desperately need.
Id do RJ and Maybe Poertl for Monk, Devin Carter and Sabonis!
Rj leaves next will be the team
Yes please trade IQ 🙏 …then sloppy barnes…but keep RJ 🎉🎉🎉
Is this a joke? This is a terrible deal. Monk is an overpaid roleplayer and Murry is a bust who probably wants at least 25m. You deserve to be bad if you make a trade like this. 😮
Malik Monk aint it man
No cap iq or RJ has to go look how much we paying them and the rest of the them
Yall Def not getting Keegan!!!
BS
WE WANT A BIG FISH
If a trade happens with the Kings, I wouldn’t mind seeing a trade with IQ RJ Barrett and Agbaji for DeMar DeRozan and Sabonis. Numbers are very close on trade machine. 68.2 M going out and 66.5 coming in
Just gives us 10 games with current roster …
So sick of downgrading on trades…its called losing a trade
Monk is trash
Why not go for sabonis
I'd rather keep RJ
that's BS trade if RJ get traded for Monk that's a big downgrade
I rather have rj … brother teams getting killed. I rather have draft picks if your that stuck on rj getting traded …
Dont trade nobody but boucher or scottie
Trading basically an all-star in the making who is younger and CANADIAN from a Canadian team is blasphemy. Monk isn't better. Even if we get picks, it's a step back. Trade Quickly who lacks ball sense and is a mid PG before you trade RJ.
This trade doesn't save any money- Murray's extension comes next summer and he's due to make 6-7M more than Ochai. As for this year, the Raps are under the apron. Trade won't happen and for many good reasons.
Haven't even heard of this trade outside of this channel.
Honestly… this would be the type of trade that would put me off watching for an entire season
