Ace Bailey arrives in Utah and BIG Lauri Markkanen trade rumor

ace Bailey is in Utah let’s talk about that let’s talk about the swing skill that will take him to another level keep him in Utah long term let’s talk about Omar Cooper let’s talk about a new trade rumor about Lowry Markin it’s the Hoops Nerd Show [Music] all right guys so if you haven’t already go to the Utah Jazz socials and go consume all the Ace Bailey content of him landing in Utah coming to Utah it’s great it’s amazing this is honestly some of the best feelings I’ve had about the future of this team than ever before it is what we hoped for i still can’t believe the Utah Jazz got Ace Bailey they tanked a full season to get a top three type talent and that’s what they got it’s so funny to me that Philadelphia and and what is it charlotte were scared of the backlash of of Ace Bailey maybe not coming to camp and Utah was like “You know what we’re used to make getting made fun of people are going to make fun of us no matter what we do so we might as well pick the top tier guy and it’s going to work out and it did and it was exciting to see those clips of Ace Bailey coming off the plane he looks happy it was really cool to see Avery Bradley there and Carlos Boozer i don’t know if they flew with them or they’re wear were there waiting but it seemed like they flew with them what an incredible addition those guys have been to kind of help these players and be those additions for these guys as kind of leaders and examples and then also just important parts of the front office uh Avery Bradley as VP of player personnel I believe and and Carlos Boozer as one of the team scouts so incredible and I had someone me talking to me on social about Utah needing to get a vet on this team you know what having guys like Carlos Boozer and Avery Bradley former players that can lead these guys is fine utah does not need to worry about vets the last thing Utah needs right now on this team is vets looking for contract minutes that’s the last thing they need remember Brandon Rush remember Rudy Gay and them just not being just being malcontents and wanting minutes and trying to play what they can they don’t care about the development of these young guys at all sometimes vets are a bad thing guys it’s not always what it’s cracked up to be this idea that you need vets to show the young guys how to play yeah sometimes that’s great and you get good examples in like Ricky Rubio and and other players like that but sometimes it’s bad so you got to be careful so having a staff of like Carlos Boozer and Avery Bradley really great you know what and we saw them come off all smiles looks great he looks legitimately happy and you know this wasn’t his preferred destination but so what if I was going to the NBA and got drafted by the Lakers wouldn’t be my preferred destination but then you get you realize that you’re in the NBA it’s exciting you get over it and then you just become a fan of that team you know what I mean so it’s great um we’ll talk a bit you know what let’s talk about Omar Cooper right now and then let’s talk about the swing skill I was mentioning so Omar Cooper came off the plane as well i noticed him in the pictures he’s also in the video of Ace Bailey dunking by the way go watch those videos i’m so excited it was just a clear example of what this situation with Omar Cooper is he is not his agent he I mean I guess maybe he calls himself his agent but he’s more of like a player manager he’s kind of like a skill development coach too which is very clear if you go watch Ace Baileyy’s highlights from high school which by by the way I recommend it ace Bailey going to the basket like crazy in high school dunking on everyone just above the rim alley oops and things that we didn’t really see at Ruters there’s a world where he’s doing things he never did at Ruters with the UK Utah Jazz guys and I am so excited but Omar Cooper’s there and the reason why this whole thing was kind of messy and tough and why I talked about being kind of you know feeling kind of sorry for Ace Bailey because he’s in this weird situation with people that are around him making decisions that aren’t helping him is he can kind of credit Omar Cooper with help to get to where he is you know Ace Bailey credits Omar Cooper for skill development getting him into the AEU circuit which has helped him get to where he is now it’s just a fact so it’s a tough situation it’s a double-edged sword it’s sweet and sour whatever you want to call it and so Utah in a lot of ways Omar Cooper is going to be a part of our lives guys and we just got to be good to that guy we got to be obviously good to Ace Bailey it’s going to be the weirdest episode of Hanging with Mr cooper ever but it’s actually going to be pretty good i think I think that if you win over Omar Cooper it could be fine watch Omar Cooper become the biggest fan of Utah ever when Ace Bailey comes onto this Utah Jazz team which by the way he has the third best odds to win rookie of the year now Omar Cooper is going to like that and Ace Bailey’s agency as well he’s going to like it when a when Ace Bailey’s getting minutes when he’s getting shine being in Utah he’s probably going to get a lot more attention than if he’d have gone to Philly because on Philly he’s going to be outshadowed by you know Joel Embiid and all that’s going on there and Jared McCain and and Tyresese Maxi and all the guys on that team Paul George on the Jazz it’s like Lowry Markin i mean Lowry Markin plays off the ball if anything Lowry Markining is just catching shots from Ace Bailey and hitting threes and giving Ace Bailey assists on his way to Rookie of the Year right so and I don’t think and by the way that rumor about Larry Markin is interesting we’ll talk about that in a minute uh but anyways I think Omar Cooper is just going to be a part of our lives and it’s fine and you know we’ve seen the clips that are kind of like eh there’s also clips of him training Ace Bailey it may be just one of those things where we just watch it and see how it pans out i you know I don’t know uh okay what’s the swing skill for Ace Bailey it’s the handle it’s all in the handle guys can you handle this can Ace Bailey get a handle and improve it and do what he was doing in high school in the NBA he didn’t quite get it developed when he was in college i think people forget that Bailey came into the season injured right like he got an injury i can’t remember if it was like a groin pull or something like that i don’t even know if he went to training camp for Rutgers kind of being lost in the shuffle a little bit and I wonder if he missed out on a little bit of development time because once the season starts it’s tough to get it’s tough to get practice time same thing with N with the NBA he gets that injury at the start of the season last year and I remember it because I was excited to watch Ace Bailey and didn’t get to um and I wonder if he missed out on some development espec specifically that handle now with Utah he can work on that he can work on his skills he can just improve and you know that that’s something that he’s going to want to do so that he’s not just defaulting to you know fadeaways which he can make but the crazy thing is he makes those shots and he’s got great size by the way he looks bigger than Carlos Boozer who at his combine measured 67 and 3/4 barefoot which was you know 6’8 69 and Ace Bailey looks bigger than him i It kind of I think he he looks bigger than I think the measurements even say i think he might be legit 610 he might be they might have measured wrong at the combine he was 67 at the combine 67 and a half actually something like that with shoes on nba players last time I checked they play with shoes on so it’s 69 it at least at least so great size but yes if he can up do and improve that handle so that when he goes to the NBA because what happened with Ruckers is the handle was not good enough and he’d lose the ball and other teams would take kind of take advantage of it think like Jaylen Brown with Boston which is interestingly enough and I’ve talked about this before kind of a comp in a way because Jaylen Brown is a Finals MVP all NBA player and his handle isn’t the greatest and he still figured it out so Ace Bailey can follow that track and be that type of player for sure uh if not better if he can improve the handle and it can become strong enough that he can get to where he wants on the floor if he can attack different you know if he gets an opening if he sees a lane can just attack and drive to the basket like he did in high school and just cram it on people oh my gosh or if it’s good enough that let’s say he’s running a pick and roll which I think he’s going to do a lot of then he can step back if defenders go under the screen if they go over the screen he can just drive to the basket and things get exciting really quick because of everything he he does because he can be an elite elite three-level scorer and the fact that he plays defense at a high level and if he plays that defense at an elite level it sounds like he’s willing to it sounds like he’s ready if Utah has a player that is like an elite two-way player at the wing I mean the best wing Utah has had a leg like a legit three true small forward has been what gordon Hayward the last one right when’s the last time you had a true shooting like highlevel small forward for the Utah Jazz maybe Bdanovich but he was more of a power forward when he was when he was on the Jazz you know Joe Engles maybe but really Gordon Hayward has the been the best and you know Andre Kirinko he was more of a power forward should have played power forward that would have been his best position he was kind of out of position when he played the three really goes back to Adrien Dantley you know by the way what what jersey number is Ace Bailey going to wear guys let me know in the comments what you think speaking of Adrien Dantley he wore number four and that is retired ace Bailey in high school and college wore number four so can’t wear number four so what’s the best number for Ace Bailey to wear let me know in the comments so anyways that’s the swing skill if he figures that out guys sky’s the limit sky’s the limit yes the decision-m needs to get better he needs to be quicker with his decision-m but having years under his belt with Will Hardy who can just mold him into the player he needs to be I have no doubt he can figure it out he can learn the system he can just get experience and play be the guy and it’ll be incredible there’s no reason he can’t win rookie of the year this year guys there’s no reason he can’t and really that’s one thing I wanted to talk about too is we talked about this before utah has to trade these vets on this team to get him rookie of the year utah is now on the clock seven years i think Ace Bailey can be on this year on this Jazz team 10 plus years the CBA is unforgiving to both mostly to players to be honest it’s so team friendly now hard cap and the teams that draft these players can offer them more if Ace Bailey in like at some point in the next seven years I think it’s actually has to be within two years of when you resign a contract but that second contract he will sign after four years with Utah and yes we’re talking about second contract but you’re looking at like year five or six he needs to make AllNBA and I think he can and if he makes AllNBA guys oh my gosh the fact that we’re talking all NBA all NBA on the Utah Jazz not center like Rudy Goar because there’s like five good centers at the time we’re talking small forward we’re talking the competing with the likes of LeBron James and Kevin Durant and Kawhi Leonard and Jason Tatum and Luca Donuch we’ve got a guy that could be in that conversation if all of this works out and Utah has to get him there because if they do then they can give him super max money and you want to give him super max money because that’s what keeps him in Utah 10 to 15 years and you know what else will keep him in Utah building an absolute contender if Utah does this right trades the vets looks at trading marketin possibly Kesler but maybe you can keep Kesler and keep that top eight pick and hopefully you jump to top three and get one of Boozer uh well one of four A Boozer uh Peterson and Dansa if you get one of those four guys pair them with with uh Bailey holy smokes and then guess what if you have a winning team and then guess what cleveland’s looking like they’ve got some issues minnesota’s looking like they’ve got some issues they just signed Naz Reed to you know 5year 125 million or something like that there’s no way I want to give that to Walker Kesler so that’s another video idea for another day but if you get two top tier guys and then you start having these other picks come in and they’re good oh my goodness and if Utah can get like some sort of trade this off seasonason for Lowry possibly for Kesler so that when Bailey is like hitting his prime and just playing at all NBA level if Donsa is on this team or whoever Peterson whatever Boozer and they’re hitting all NBA level i actually really love the idea of Camboozer with uh Bailey because Camboozer looks like just an absolute Tim Duncan level power forward yes I said power forward but power forward ace Bailey being that pure small forward oh my gosh oh my gosh the possibilities are incredible guys and if they do it we’re talking title we’re talking championship in Utah we’re talking about buses going through Utah showing off the hardware the rings the banners the glory all of it in Utah all right here’s the here’s the rumor for Lowry Markin this comes from Zack Low and really the quote was I mean basically you can go listen to the latest Zack Low podcast i suggest you too you do it’s where he talks about it but he talks about Larry Markin as one of the people to watch in free agency asks if Larry Markin wants to be a part of this team next year that is likely not going to be very good you’re going to be putting the ball in AJ Debons’s hands he’s going to be figuring out that handle there’s going to be a lot of turnovers there’s going to be a lot of losses it’s just the reality he’s a rookie he has all the potential in the world rookies struggle they do and maybe he doesn’t maybe he wins rookie of the year and is just out of the out of this world even then Utah wants that top eight pick next year they do not want to give that pick to Oklahoma City no one in the NBA wants Utah to give that pick to Oklahoma City i don’t know if Lowry Markin is going to be on this long ter team long term and I don’t know if he should because you want to clear this deck for Ace Bailey give him all the opportunities in the world lowry Markin is an all-star caliber player he has not made the All-Star team the last two seasons now uh I believe that’s right if I’m wrong let me know in the comments i’m sure you will uh but he might not be part of the timeline that contract’s big and if you can clear this deck for Ace Bailey to just play let you know Walter Clayton Jr play go through his lumps because he’s going to have him although he looks like an absolute winner you know let Keante George Isaiah Kier uh Kyle Filipowski let all these guys play from the start let them play from the beginning because one of the things that has these teams win long term is that they play together and they build together where they grow that chemistry from the start from the start cody Williams let’s see if he can figure out how to be an NBA player why not and if he doesn’t and he helps us lose games that’s also fine with me um but Zack Low in his podcast said he doesn’t know if Lowry Markin wants to do that and he ends by just saying I don’t think or I don’t know if Lowry Markin is going to be on this team in a year he talks about how Lowry Markin might need to play his way into tradability because he shot 34% last year from three for a player that’s known for three-point shooting that is not good that is bad if your best player is a three-point shooter and he shoots 34% from three I that’s not good i don’t care what anyone says online and by the way I would love for people to stop lying on the internet i know it’s an impossible ask in the world we live in of disinformation but this disinformation online talking about Larry Markin as a 43% never happened in his career and last year he shot 34% from three that’s the reality and when you play these players this is an important thing to remember when you are giving players contracts you are paying them for the upcoming four years you are giving them the contract for you are not giving them contracts for past performance whoever is giving a contract to Giannis Anadmpo is paying him for what Giannis is going to be the next four years you are not getting what Giannis was before he was the age of 31 you are getting Giannis from 32 to 36 that is why you don’t want to go get Giannis onto the Kmpo unless you’re on the verge of a championship and he’s the piece that gets you over the top right same things goes for Markin what you are looking at is the future and you know what utah should not have given him that contract last year i was right about that i talked about it incessantly received a lot of hate for it and it’s okay i was right it’s my you know I like to say it by the way hate to be so right all the time ah it’s a curse I live with this being right all the time but anyways Utah has to trade Larry Morgan and I’ll just be honest and I think that’s what they’re planning to do i think it was Tony Jones made an interesting comment um they have a new president of basketball operations and it’s it’s Austin and the two players that he has brought on the two players that are untradable are Ace Bailey and Walter Clayton Jr this is a new regime this is a new era of jazz basketball i hope all the young guys develop you know Keonte George Taylor Hendricks by the way Ace Bailey Taylor Hendris Walter Clayton Jr that’s kind of a core I’d like to build around keonte George if he can figure it out great got to play some defense Key you have got to play some defense i have defended you more than anyone no one has defended Keonte George more than me no one but he’s got to improve defensively has to uh Colin Ston John Collins Jordan Clarkson they got to find trade partners they can literally just buy them out they are expiring contracts so it doesn’t matter they can just buy them out fill your team with two two ways and 10 days and whatever but buy them out if you have to because it’s time to give Ace Bailey a chance to earn Rookie of the Year and let this thing go like the magical thing we want it to be right let it go right do it right get everything done do it correctly please guys let’s see i want to bring this up because they deserve it it’s the If you Ace Bailey arrived in Utah and will be doing a press conference soon. Omar Cooper was there with him and it is what it is, he might be a big part of the future. Also a HUGE Lauri Markkanen trade rumor.

  1. Ace looks like he has MJ like abilities if his confidence is allowed to make him into the bad ass that Jordan was. Jordan was the cockiest player in the game and he backed it up. Jazz fans know better than others after the Jordan flu game. Cockiness can beat debilitation.

  2. As a Sixers fan I’m so glad we passed on Ace Bailey. Talent wise he can be a great player but he’s also a selfish player with a sense of entitlement. Hope he works out for Utah long term but the Jazz won’t be relevant in the Western Conference for years to come.

  3. I don't know why everyone is so anxious to trade Kessler! Seriously? Give up one of the best young rim protectors in the NBA right now? No. Keep Kessler. We are SET at Center. Don't mess with that. We need to trade off Sexton, Markkanen, Clarkson, or maybe even Collins (though he is playing well right now). I like the core of Bailey, Clayton Jr., and Kessler. If we can get a great return for Markkanen at the 2-guard position, and with Kessler protecting the paint, we could become real good, real fast. And DUMP Cody Williams … what a wasted pick that was.

  4. The plan should be to make his development a priority, and that includes developing the confidence he can be a winning player on a winning team. So do not do to him what you did to Cody Williams last year and to some extent don't do to him what you did to Keyonte 2 years back when you threw him to the wolves when you forced him to play out of position at point guard. He got devoured and finally the Jazz had to do the merciful thing and bench George and put in Collier to run the team. Don't ruin the confidence of another young player (like Williams) so that he becomes worthless in big moments, we need players who believe they can make meaningful and clutch shots.
So this notiion of trading Markannen for 3 oreo cookies and a bag of skittles is not only wrong it is really stupid. First build the new player's confidence even though you would have to accept the penalty of winning a few extra early season games by playing him in a lineup of Markennan, Collins,, Kessler and Sexton, with Bailey at the 2 position. We all actually realize that would be a playoff starting lineup, so after you have raised and re-established the value of the veterans by proving they are winning components on a winning team you would then trade them and get a decent return on them.
But unless Markannen regains full trade value you don't have to be desparate to get rid of him, just rest him one more year (as has been done in the past, for example, his injury could be a strained earlobe or strained frontalis muscle in the eyebrow). Markennan will still be in his prime for 2026-27; he just doesn't need to be the # 1 option like was tried last season. Give him a good point guard setting up his shots and the percentages would come back. You would just need to trade the veterans during the first month of the season and then return to playing the younger players so you can lose games to make the bottom 5 again, retain the pick. In 26-27 the Jazz should make it a goal to end the rebuild and make the playoffs, with a lineup of Bailey, Markannen, Kessler, Clayton and whoever earns minutes from the rest of the young players. Multiple wins all around if you adopted this plan.

  5. IF THEY GIVE ACE THE GREEN LIGHT Worst case scenario we’ll have a Onaven “NO-D” Mitchell situation again, let him develop by actually PLAYING & when he’s not happy we can trade for a bag of picks and we start all over 5+ years down the line….

  6. The vets will happen, and need to happen 100% not this year of course but after this season and leading into the draft. The build really starts after next draft. Role playing vets included

  7. Sorry for posting here, I just need an outlet. I'm going crazy over the whole, they play in shoes thing. I'm 6'1", you know what my DL says, 6'1", you know what I answered when asked about my height and we were playing ball? 6'1". Not, oh well, we're playing basketball right now, and in shoes, so I'm close to 6'3" at the moment.

Thanks for letting me rant and thanks for the good insight over the years.

  8. Philly wasn't scared. If you didn't know the Sixers have 3 All Stars and a deep bench. Ace would cause problems because he wants to play 40 min and jack 20 shots a night and they isn't happening in Philly. In Utah he can take 50 shots if he wants. Let's see how this plays out before your crowning him ROY and an all star just yet

  9. Bailey hasn’t played a single game, and you're already mentioning him in the same breath as Kevin Durant. We don’t even know if he’ll be better than Lauri Markkanen. Isn’t it ironic how upset Utah fans were at the idea that Bailey didn’t want to be in Utah–yet now you talk about keeping Ace here for 10+ years, while the guy who’s actually given three prime years to this team, who likes Utah and wants to be part of the Jazz’s future–Lauri–is suddenly expendable?

If Ace eventually demands a trade, you’ll have no credibility. You have no leg to stand on. Lauri deserves to be on this team. He’s already given more to the Jazz than Ace has. If you have no loyalty to your most loyal player, then no one owes you any in return.

  10. Thanks for all man you keep it upbeat for this jazz fan man appreciate it you nerd you right on brother

  11. The Jazz may not need anyone else. Keep Markanen, Collins, Sexton. Sexton and Clayton at point. Then we have a couple of options at 2 for whoever is hot that night. Let Svi, Harkless, and Springer go. Trade Clarkson or just don't renew contract – He is a good example vet. Cody only has one more year in my book to start improving to at least a role player. I'm not against trying to pick up the draft pick this next year, but we don't have to tank super hard. I think this team might prove viable.

  12. Dude you are a clown if you want the Jazz to trade Lauri so by the time Ace hits his stride the Jazz will be all that. Well what happens if he does ,but in 7 years he wants out? Then your back to hitting the reset button on another rebuild. BTW- who cares if the Jazz lose their pick next year, we have plenty of picks. You are a big liar, so stop lying. You know little about basketball and probably are getting paid by the Jazz…

  13. Ace should clearly be #1 or #13.

Btw, also Michael Pina from the Ringer predicted that Lauri Markkanen will be the biggest name in the league to be traded this summer. "He makes so much more sense on a team that’s ready to win sooner rather than later. If the Jazz let the rest of the league know Markkanen is available now, they’ll get ridiculous offers."
