The Rockets Are BETTER Than You Think
The Rockets are a lot better than you think because last season they won 52 games by simply dominating on the margins. They were a great defense with the size, athleticism, and personnel to go to a ton of different coverages and lineups. And they were arguably the best offensive rebounding team ever, which helped them always win the possession game. The only things holding them back from being true championship contenders were how stagnant their halfcourt offense could get and their inability to make shots. But then they went and added Kevin Durant, an all-time great offball scorer who’s coming off a season where he made 43% of his threes and 53% of his mid-range jumpers. Then they picked up Dorian Finey Smith, who just shot 41% from three. And they did this without sacrificing any part of their identity between the athleticism, defensive versatility, or dominance on the glass. Actually, they got even bigger, even lengthier, and even better at protecting the rim while remaining young. So, as things currently stand, Houston could just be the biggest threat to OKC.
