REPORT: Philadelphia NOT SERIOUS In Guerschon Yabusele Talks + Andre Drummond TRADE Coming Soon?
[Music] We have a new update on Gershon Yabale leaving the Philadelphia 76ers to sign with the New York Knicks and might piss some Sixers fans off. What this update has in store. Plus, in the back half of today’s show, we’ll discuss Andre Drummond. and the Sixers potentially looking to move on from him. What they could get for Drummond, who they could sign to replace him if they do want to move on from the veteran big man who opted into his player option just a few days ago. So, first, let’s get started with the latest on Gershon Yavelli. Of course, if you don’t know by now, Gershon did leave Philadelphia to sign with the rival New York Knicks. Oh, what a disaster. signing a two-year $12 million deal. Now, there’s a player option on the second year of that deal, so a chance he does opt out and look for a new contract, but he’ll be playing with the New York Knicks for at least this upcoming season. And a lot of Sixers fans were disappointed, man. Thought that maybe there was a way Philadelphia could get Gershon back on the team, but with the financial situation in Philadelphia, which I’ll dive into more in a second, it was going to be very difficult for them to find a way to keep Gershon. and also keep some of their other players on the roster. Now, the new update that we got, uh, this came in late last night from Jason Dumas, who covers the NBA. Sixers fans might not like what he has to say here. According to a source, Sixers had informal talks with Gershon Yabasellle, but no formal offer was made. Gershon never followed up with the Sixers for a chance to match the Knicks offer. All right, let’s break this down before you get too angry at the Sixers or before you get too angry at Gershon himself for not following up with Philadelphia after the Knicks made that offer. Let’s talk about why this might be, right? And and why the Sixers really didn’t seem to be too in on bringing back Gershan Yaba. It all has to do with the financials, right? The Sixers were not not interested in bringing Gershan back as a player because of his skill set. They obviously know how valuable Gershon was to this team last season. And he was one of the most productive and most consistent players that this team had all season long. And you know, coming over after being out of the NBA for so many years. Sixers gave him the chance to prove his value. And now here he is cashing in on his value. But that’s just that’s just it right there. Right. That’s exactly it for Gar. He deserved to get paid more than the minimum. The Sixers couldn’t really offer him more than the minimum. Now, the Knicks gave him the taxpayer mid-level exception. Uh, starting salary about $5.6 million, but it evens out to about 6 mill a year over the two seasons. The Sixers technically had that exception available to use, but if they used it, it would have hardcapped them at the second apron, meaning the Sixers salaries could not go over the second apron number the entire year, no matter what. not allowed to go over it. The problem is there they were only about 2025 million roughly away from the second apron still having to resign Quinton Grimes. So there was a chance depending on how much money Grimes was demanding that if they used that exception to bring Yabaselle back they wouldn’t have been able to bring back Grimes and they didn’t want to lose Grimes for absolutely nothing because they would have only been able to replace him with a vetmin contract. So, it just didn’t make a lot of sense financially for Philadelphia to move on uh or to bring back Gershon on that exception number. Now, you can argue, well, why does doesn’t Philadelphia try to trade somebody on the roster to open up that money? And sure, sure they could, and we’ll talk about these Andre Andre Drummond trade discussions here in just a moment, but that’s an unknown. That’s not a guarantee that you can free up that money. Either way, it puts you in a tough financial spot because you’re sort of right there on the salary cap, right? You’re going to be right up there against the second apron without a whole lot of flexibility to go over if you absolutely had to. So, I can understand why the Sixers never really talked too much with Yaveelli about it because they they know and he knew that they could only really offer him the vet men. And I think the Sixers know that Yabaselli was worth more than the Vetmin. And Yaboselli himself knew he could get more than the Vetmin on the open market, which he did with New York. And I think that’s why he didn’t even bother coming back to the Sixers with the offer the Knicks gave him because they had already talked about it briefly that like, hey, unfortunately, we just can’t give you this. We can only give you the men. We know you’re worth more than the men. So go out there, get paid, get your money. It’s kind of what Tyrese Maxi echoed. He he joked around that Yabaselli texted him and said, “We’re gonna beat you guys four times next year.” Of course, Sixers and Knicks will play each other four times as they do every single season. Um, and Max said like, you know, I feel very happy for him, him and his family getting this opportunity to get paid after making his return to the NBA. So, look, we’re going to miss Gershon. It sucks. It really does that out of all the teams he could have gone to, uh, he went to the New York Knicks. And so, you know, if you want to hold that against him a little bit, you can. He might have had other offers at a similar price point. We don’t know for sure. But I’m just here to tell you, don’t get too angry at the Sixers or at Gershon for what happened. If you wanted to get angry at anybody, blame the NBA for all these new rules that they have in their recent CBA. Really limiting teams abilities to sign their own players. If the Sixers find someone like Yavle out there in free agency who hasn’t been the NBA for years and they bring him in, they’re the team that gives him a second chance. they should have an opportunity at least to resign him without hampering the rest of their roster. But unfortunately, it’s not how the NBA goes. At the very least, he cashed out on another team. So, good for Gershon and we’ll be seeing him a few times a season starting with next year uh if the Sixers can, you know, hopefully get back on track and and beat up on the Knicks uh heading into the 202526 season. All right, still got to talk about Gershon Yabas or about Andre Drummond here, excuse me, and some trade rumors regarding the veteran big man. But first, will the Sixers regret passing up on Gershon Yabasellle in order to try to resign Quinton Grimes? I’ve seen people say Sixers should have kept Yabu and just said goodbye to Grimes. And if that’s how you feel, then really what I said is irrelevant because you don’t care about keeping Grimes around anyways. Let me know down in the comments section. Give me a Y for yes or an N for no. Will the Sixers regret letting Gershan Yavaselli go to try to resign Quinton Grimes? And before we get to the latest on Andre Drummond, got to tell you guys about this fantastic deal with our friends at Fanatics. So, you go there, head over to fanatics and get your Tyrese Maxi shirt today, 50% off. All right, let’s get to the latest on Andre Drummond because Andre Drummond accepted his player option uh earlier in the offseason for about $5 million to return to the 76ers. But that does not mean he is guaranteed to return to Philadelphia. Some recent reports I had alluded to. I said even though Drummond’s back for now, I would look to find a way to trade him because I don’t think the Sixers need him on the roster. Well, what do you know? Shortly after Andre Drummond accepted that player option with Philadelphia, we got this report from Tony Jones NBA who covers the NBA for the Athletic says, “If I were a Philly fan, I will be looking out for Andre Drummond. The Sixers have been trying to move him over the last 24 hours. Let’s see if they get it done.” Now, that was back on June 30th. It’s now June 2nd as of this recording. He is still under roster. They have not found a trade partner for him yet. Now, I don’t necessarily know uh what you’ll be able to get for Drummond, but it makes sense wanting to move off of Andre Drummond’s contract, right? One, you save yourself $5 million, which as I mentioned, Sixers kind of need all the money they can get at this point. But also, you obviously have Joel Embiid. When you have Joel Embiid, you need good backups behind him because of his injury history. And you have Autumn Bona, who looked really good in year one. You just drafted Janai Broom who projects to play a lot of center for this 76ers team as well. And Andre Drummond last year was injured a lot. He didn’t look great when he was out there. Look, I love Drummond. He was great in his first stint with Philadelphia, but last year was just not nearly the same player. Uh looked pretty laxidasical on defense. The rebounding is still good, but the Sixers were still a really bad rebounding team despite all that. And I think they just want to get younger at the position. uh no need to be paying him $5 million when you can get somebody who can do the si similar things to Andre Drummond for a vet min contract. So makes sense they’d be looking to move off of him. If they do trade him might be able to get a second round pick for him. Maybe a couple second round picks for a contending team. Maybe a team like the Lakers who even if they do sign DeAndre Aton which uh is not official as of yet I imagine it will be very very soon. They’re still going to need more center depth. So maybe you send him to LA. Excuse me. they sent you a second round pick, maybe a couple second round picks. And if you do move him, you know, I think there’s some options on the free agent market currently that you could bring in that could fill that role at the center splot. I think Chris Buchet, Precious Achua, both guys that have played with Nick Nurse in the past that could provide you some valuable experience. Bush can guard some wings, hit the occasional three, decent defensive player. Precious Achua, a good defender, good energy guy, good rebounder, but the offensive game, not much to talk about there. So, either of those do I’d be happy with. Mo Vagner is another player who towards ACL last December for Orlando. His player option was declined. Some talks he could go back there and return on a smaller deal to Orlando, but maybe he sees Philadelphia as an option to play on a minimum contract, raise his value once he comes back from injury, then sign a larger deal with another team next off season. So, those are some names I kind of be looking out for at that center spot who do have some four five flexibility. They can play the four, they can play the five. I think that’s important for Philadelphia. Uh, if they want to get rid of Drummond, find someone in there. They don’t have a lot of people on this roster currently who fit into that mold. And I think finding someone who can help replace what Yabastelle did bring now that he’s in New York. Of course, you did bring in Trenon Watford, but not quite a full replacement there. Um, adding in another player would, I think, really, really help the squad again, especially if Andre Drummond is traded. But I know not all of you will want to see Andre Drummond move and lead the 76ers. So, let me know down in the comment section right now. Should the 76ers trade Andre Drummond? Give me a T for trade, P for pass. Let me know down in the comments section. And we’ll see you next time here on 76ers Now. [Music]

It's clear that the 76ers are rebuilding around Maxey. Maxey hosting VJ at the draft. Drafting VJ upsetting Grimes, signing Watford, and not bringing Yabu back. This is a mistake in my opinion.
Grimes was scoring 40+ points in a few games last year. Why let someone else have that
Jock Landale will soon be available as a vet min Free agent. He would be perfect as a backup centre and a starter when embiid is out.
Yabusele can barely jump to grab a rebound.
I think resign Quentin Grimes. Yabusele was not that good to me, he don't get enough rebounds some area he needed to improve. Yabusele don't brat on because you are with the knicks, becawhuse it may not be that way next season. The knicks is a team that bring use in & get rid of you, yabusele look what they to they coach this so don't brat yabusele. You could have when with other team but the knicks. Trade yes for Andre Drummond, don't resign Eric Gordon & rid of Lowry he's not worth it.
Passing on Yabusele No. Grimes is better.
Trade Drummond Yes.
Morey has to go its way overdue
I only care if Yabu is happy and he wants to play with my Mikal ❤
Grimes needs to come back.
Yaba they should have kept. They got him from overseas and he was great at his position. Th we y keep making bad moves. Get rid of the Management and Coach.
Trade Drummond
Keep Drummond
