The San Antonio Spurs are Shaking Up the Entire NBA…

not only did the San Antonio Spurs end up with the rookie of the year in 2023 and Victor Wmanyama with the first overall pick not only did they end up with the fourth overall pick and get another rookie of the year and Stefon Castle in back-to-back years not only did they end up with the second overall pick in the next draft getting Dylan Harper there’s also another kid that fell right into their laps at number 14 and his name is Carter Bryant welcome to Basketball Intuition i’m your host Ethan Simon today we’re going to be talking about the San Antonio Spurs i’ll start by saying the first portion of this video is going to be more team oriented stuff i want to look at some contracts i want to look at the roster and then the second portion of this video we’re going to be diving into Carter Bryant’s game yes we got a bow tie on today i’m ready to go putting aside Oklahoma City and also putting aside the Houston Rockets if you include them in this conversation or not when you look at the Spurs you are looking at the best young roster in the entire NBA we haven’t even gotten to free agency yet the rotation as of today if I had to take a guess it would be De’arren Fox Steph Castle Dylan Harper Devin Vel Kell Johnson Jeremy Sohan Julian Champeni Harrison Barnes Carter Bryant Victor Womenyama i just named you 11 people that could play on most NBA teams not most NBA teams they could play on any NBA team and almost all of them are under the age of 25 years old excluding Dear Fox and Harrison Barnes i’m not here to tell you that this is going to be a dynasty because we haven’t even seen Dylan Harper play together we barely seen Webb and Yyama and Steph Castle play together we haven’t even seen Dear and Fox and Webinama barely play together at all but man if you look at that roster you should be happy about it if you aren’t already for some reason from what I’m looking at and from what it seems to me it seems like the Spurs have like $15 million $20 million to work with free agency correct me if I’m wrong i don’t know that’s just what I’m seeing that gives you a little bit of space to address some of the problems that you had last season you were the 10th worst three-point shooting team in the entire association you need to shoot the three ball better you hope that Dylan Harper and Carter Bryant can come in and help that out but you also need the guys that are on the roster right now to just shoot the ball better in general um but if you do want to go out and get a shooting forward or a shooting guard you could do that much more importantly to me I would like to see the Spurs go get a bruising four five i’m talking about a strong power forward a strong center a guy that you can use with WBY to run at the four or the five and also a guy that you can have on the floor when WBY is not on the floor that’s the type of center that they need right now like a Steven Adams type center could really go a long way obviously Steven Adams is not an option but there are other options out there of bruising centers that you could go get last thing before we get to the Carter Bryant stuff i’m very interested to see how they’re going to handle these guard situations with Darren Fox Steph Castle and Dylan Harper i’m assuming that they’re just going to have Dylan Harper come off the bench uh I do fully agree with the Spurs in this situation that you just go draft the best player available and Dylan Harper was that if you are not aware with Dylan Harper’s game if you don’t know a whole lot about it I made a whole YouTube video about it already i’ll put the link in the description if you want to watch that but this guy could ball and you can worry about fit later but what they did with the Carter Bryant pick they didn’t go draft a guy with the crazy upside they didn’t go draft a guy that could boom and be this crazy all-star in 5 years they drafted a guy for fit like I just mentioned you needed three-point shooting you address that you needed wing defense you just address that carter Bryant is a very raw prospect and on the defensive side especially it’s about as raw as it gets pause i don’t even want to waste any more time let’s just go ahead and get into Carter Bryant’s game like I said I did this more in depth with Dylan Harper i’m not going to go as in-depth as I usually do all these loweffort videos of people just reading scouting reports like that’s not doing a whole lot for you but yeah we’re talking about a 19-year-old that’s turning 20 years old this year he’s about 67 68 somewhere around there with almost a 7ft wingspan and a 40-in vertical the build is ridiculous he is also a very good help defender this is where we get to some of the problems like I mentioned he is a very raw defender and a raw prospect in this situation he is very undisiplined as a defender he gets off of his feet too much he’ll jump at any pump fake he is 19 years old and he hasn’t even played a minute in the NBA so I’m just staying optimistic that he’s going to be able to figure that out the Spurs coaching staff and all those guys they’re going to be able to help him out with that one thing that he does do very well is this guy’s got Hall of Fame pogo stick what I’m talking about if you don’t know what I’m talking about sometimes when you jump in the air and you come back down it takes you a second before you can jump back up in the air you know as high as you just did he can jump up and down all day long and also another positive thing to the negative things I just said he does recover well from whenever he gamles a little bit too much or does something that he shouldn’t he does recover very well because he covers a lot of ground very quickly and he’s super athletic that’s what’s really going to be his bread and butter it’s not even going to be you know him standing in front of you locking him down it’s going to be whenever you can’t see him on the help side whenever you get past him and he’s in your blind spot and he comes out from behind you and smacks the ball and like I said he is a very engaged and focused defender which makes him good on the help side like I already said but also as an offball defender he was really good but really skilled and smart scoring forwards and guards they’re going to give him trouble another thing that kind of plays into defense a little bit is I thought he had really good um rebounding ability he has really really good positioning especially and this is the next thing that I want to get into that also you know defense transitions us to our other spot which is going to be he is a good transition defender which transitions us over to the transition play that’s a lot of transitions in five seconds i’m sorry he’s got a little bit of everything like I mentioned he’s got the flashy dunks he’s got the really great speed with his size he’s a freakish athlete with that ridiculous vertical like I mentioned he just covers space so quickly where he just made some really tough passes in traffic and those outlet passes like I said they’re just beautiful like I said these are flashes and another thing when we talk about playmaking he is loose with the basketball he needs to control the ball better he needs to get his handle tighter like I already mentioned and like I’ve said before he moves very well for his size um so if he was able to get that ball in a tighter string I mean he would probably be able to create a little bit but that’s one of the problems about Carter Bryant is that he isn’t a shot creator at all he does not create for himself he’s going to be a spot-up player obviously you hope that he can grow that later down the line but as of right now with the Spurs he is going to be a spot-up three and a defensive player really glad that they didn’t take this flyer of a guy that you know could boomer bust you took a complimentary piece because you already have four stars you got Webby De’aran Steph Castle Dylan Harper you don’t need another guy to create shots you need a complimentary piece you need a guy that’s going to play defense and knock down threes in a corner that’s what Carter Bryant’s going to do beautiful drafting from the Spurs like just beautiful the fact that he even fell to the Spurs is one thing but the fact that they actually took him is another thing now to the shooting i don’t have too too much to say about the shooting but we’ll talk about it for a minute he has a really really nice jump shot very very good form for a guy that’s as tall as he is with as long of arms as he does and also on three three-pointers a game he shot 37% he’s got a really really smooth and quick catch and release shot motion and also one of the very important things about his shooting game that I liked a lot he’s extremely confident in shooting contested threes he is not only shooting threes when they are wide open he can in fact knock down contested threes he also has a little bit of a mid-range game it’s not nothing crazy like I mentioned he doesn’t create that much for himself but little one dribble pull-ups he got that in the mid-range he can do that over a small defender now I’m going to get to the finishing side of things because this is kind of really iffy most of his shots are jump shots he does not take that many shots at the paint and a lot of his shots at the paint they’re just like easy dump offs easy you know cuts to the basket that he makes that is one thing that I want to say that I don’t want to walk over he does make some really nice cuts to the basket but I said this about Cooper Flag and obviously Carter Bryant it’s on a much larger scale he needs to do a lot more than what Cooper Flag needs to do but he needs to refine his touch around the rim he is not a very good touch around the rim isn’t that great and like I mentioned he just doesn’t get to the basket very much and this goes back to one of the things I already talked about if his handle was better and he had it on a tighter string it would make it easier for him to get to the basket with his size his frame and his speed but his handle isn’t great um and that’s everything I had to talk about for Carter Bryant i have no idea if this is going to be a long video short video I don’t know um again if you want to see me talk about Dylan Harper at a much larger scale like me talking about him for like 10 11 minutes consecutively you can go watch that video link is in the description but before we get up out of here I have two very important things that we need to talk about very quickly we’re Okay so we’re going to look at the poll real quick i just put up the new one if you want to see the Dylan Harper video it’s this one right here go find that it’s a very good video if you go to the right this is what you need to do now you need to go to the channel click post and pick which team you want me to use we asked the people with 50 votes 64% of people said we’re starting a new 2K series so we are doing that these are your options of which teams we’re going to use i don’t want it to be a short rebuild i could do like a really easy team and you know it just be dumb easy but I want a challenge so we’re going to be doing the Utah Jazz Washington Wizards Portland Trailblazers or the Brooklyn Nets please go pick which team you want me to use and whatever team has the most votes by the time I post my next video that is going to be the team that we use now the very last segment of the day my favorite segment of the day the comment of the day if you’re not aware the comment of the day is my favorite comment from the previous video it can be about literally anything i don’t care what it is it’s my favorite comment okay this is not from my previous video but it is going to be the comment of the day cuz I want to talk about this real quick i would like to say your name but I’m going to butcher it so I’m going to refrain from doing that speaking about Isaiah Collier saying “Coyer has been slept on in this draft utah is slowly turning into a young darkhorse team to be honest let’s talk about Ace Bailey man what in the world is going on?” So he didn’t fly to the team with Walter Clayton Jr on the day that he should have went he has had minimal contact with the team and he has had nothing to do with them on any social media and he did in fact say that he didn’t want to play for Utah now I will say I don’t agree with this at all like I think that he’s not in a position like Paul George said you’re not even in the league yet you’re not in a position to be making demands and being like I want to play here i want to play here i wanted to see him in Washington so I was mad when Utah snatched him up but I was like why would they even do that if he don’t want to play there i want to get y’all’s take i’m curious if y’all think he’s going to play or not i’m pretty confident that he will end up playing he just wants to be a diva for some reason but like why wouldn’t he be excited he’s got Kyer at a good point guard you got good big man and you get to get in there and chuck up shots what could you be upset about so yeah that’s all I wanted to talk about for that if you made it to the end of the video I appreciate you very much you could hit the like the comment the sub the post notifications if you want you don’t have to do any of them but I’d appreciate it if you did any of them bow tie Ethan in the building man you know what it is i love each and every single one of you i hope you’re all doing well and I’mma see you on the next video man peace out

  1. Imagine a starting lineup with castle, harper, bryant, sochan, and wemby. Would shoot 20% from three, but would hold opponents to 20% from 3 too

  2. Sorry yall but i had to edit some parts out due to copyright, it was me talking about his flashes as a passer tho hes not a playmaker to say, as well as his versatility on the defensive side

  3. Just subbed – remember me when youre famous! – Jokes aside, informative and straight to the point. Ive followed the Spurs for 25 years but not living in the states makes it difficult to see the players from the NCAA coming through. Harper excites me though

  4. With Vassell and Johnson being traded, the season will start with Wemby-Sochan-Barnes-Castle-Fox as starters and Dylan Harper and Carter Bryant gaining experience off the bench leading the second unit in a soft tank. Harper replaces Barnes and Bryant replaces Sochan in the Spurs small-ball lineup.

  5. A healthy roster of Wemby-Sochan-Castle-Fox-Harper-Barnes-Wesley-Champagnie-Minix-Ingram, plus a capable b/u Big Man makes them a 5th seed playoff team, maybe even a 4 seed if Wemby has an MVP-like season.

  6. As a spurs fan i was holding my breath every time a team drafted from like 10-13 because i wanted carter so bad. i was honestly so surprised he fell to us

  7. If the Spurs are smart, they'll remove Sochan from the new lineups and automatically improve on-court chemistry as a result. Give the new guys a fighting chance without the worst position player I've ever seen.

Even with all the new talent, that would be the biggest improvement the Spurs could do to improve their game and their record.

  8. just subbed, liked the video, but i dont care for 2k and will probably unsub if it ends up on my homepage (if im the only person that feels like that alright, but if not, maybe a second channel would make sense)

  9. I hope the Spurs sign Yabusele. He is a great fit for the Spurs. Plays well with Wemby, he is a bruiser/stretch 4/5, has a good attitude, works hard and most of all, he only cost 2 mil

  10. Bryant seems to be in the Danny Green mold offensively and defensively as a floor prospect. G-League will service him well for half a season maybe more to climb to his potential.

  11. Spurs young core is much better than Houston's young core. And OKC isn't that young anymore, Shai is 1 year younger than the De'Aaron Fox, dude ain't a part of a young core, they just a elite team.
