Kevin Durant Breaks Silence…and Suns Fans Won’t Like It…

[Music] Yo, what is going on YouTube? Welcome back to a brand new video. And today, there’s a little bit of controversy on Phoenix on social media. And by that specifically, I mean Twitter. There was a clip today. Kevin Durant was just recently on the Mind the Game podcast hosted by former Phoenix on Steve Nash and former or whatever current Los Angeles Laker LeBron James. And you know there were I mean if you before I even get into the controversial topic, if you’re a hoops junkie, if you’re a a person that geeks out on freaking just the little hoop details, that is a podcast you should definitely go watch. um they break down a lot of great things, a lot of cool schemes, concepts, etc. just about how they play the game of basketball and it’s it’s really good watch and if you’re always into gaining knowledge, that is something that you should definitely go check out. But there was recently a clip uh I guess I think the episode just released today but Kevin Durant was pretty much talking about how late in the shot clock the star players should have the ball which obviously they should opposed to a role player as he mentions two names Dorian Smith who is now his teammate which is funny but I believe the podcast was recorded before the clip came out I believe it was recorded during the NBA finals or before the finals started and Royce O’Neal who is is a Phoenix Sun for now. But pretty much he’s saying that the superstars need to be able to play their game and everyone else needs to pretty much be on the perimeter and shoot the tree ball, the three ball cuz you know Kevin Durant’s a mid-range sniper. Um I mean they break down a lot of analytics about the mid-range and just how good Kevin Durant was in Brooklyn about his mid-range and pretty much throughout his whole career as he shot 50490 for consecutive seasons and the as many times as he was close he should have it a lot more. But I’m going to play the clip. I’m gonna let you guys get your reaction and then I will give my insight after. So, here’s the clip. I’m I hit a couple mid-ranges in a row. We down like 15. Like, you need to shoot more three. I said, “No, these dudes around me need to shoot more threes. I need to play my game.”
You know what I’m saying? Because if I get into this paint and cuz y’all going to collapse on this mid-range and I kick out to one of them, I’m expecting them to shoot the three, not dribble into a mid-range. Like, that don’t make no sense. But the best players on a team, you can’t turn them into
You’re exactly right. So, it it we did a whole episode on this that the mid-range has never been more important. It’s just it has to come from the right dudes.
Right. Exactly.
Now, a lot of people, just as you can tell by this clip, are kind of spinning this. I don’t know if they’re doing this for engagement or rage baiting or whatever the [ __ ] they’re trying to use this for, but they’re pretty much trying to angle this at a fact that Kevin Durant is taking shots at Deon Booker and the Phoenix Suns. That is not at all what’s happening in this clip. And like Kevin Durant is one of my top three favorite players of all time alongside Devin Booker. Um, but this isn’t this isn’t aimed at anybody really. I know he did name drop Dorian Finny Smith and Royce O’Neal, but he’s just kind of giving a just a a generic broad example. You know, he’s saying late in the shot clock pretty much, if I’m gathering this correctly, if he has the ball, he’s going to be be I mean, Kevin Durant’s whole game is in the mid-range. And he’s had superstar players, by the way, too. So, if you’re considering Deon Booker in the same conversation of like Rece O’Neal and Dorian Fan Smith, I have a lot more questions outside of this quote, but this wasn’t aimed at anyone. It It really wasn’t. I don’t know why I even wanted to make a YouTube video on this because it’s really stupid. But I just feel like, you know, a lot of people are are kind of kicking up rocks and dust over absolutely nothing and kind of taking this guy out of context just for the drama factor, but it’s not aimed at anyone. He specifically said if he if it’s let in the shot clock, it should the ball should be in the star player’s hand opposed to a guy like a Royce O’Neal or Dory Penny Smith, which everything Kevin said in this clip was 100% right. You know, Kevin is, you know, superstar player, mid-range, mid-range guy. I feel like I’m just kind of repeating myself a lot, but like I said, this is a very stupid thing that people are getting mad about. And obviously, as you can tell by my reaction here, this wasn’t aimed at anyone. And if you do have different opinions, please drop in the comments below because I would like to hear them. But obviously, guys, this is just they’re just talking hoops here. Nothing here is taking shots at anyone or any Yeah, I don’t like this is so frustrating cuz this is how NBA Twitter is. And this is just I don’t think Instagram is as bad when it comes to this stuff, but like everybody tries to spin off something for likes, engagement, angles. That’s just the whole it’s just just how the whole social media thing is with the NBA. But it wasn’t aimed at anyone. I get it. You guys try try to spin stuff for likes and etc. But yeah, I think a part two is coming out with the Kevin Durant, LeBron James, Stephen Ash. You guys should do like I check out part one then definitely go check out part two if you guys want to get some knowledge. But it’s a great watch. Kevin’s not taking shots anyone. I still have a lot of respect for Kevin Durant. And come on, guys. He’s clearly not talking about Deon Booker. He’s talking about the the role of players that they’re put like when he’s driving and kicking out you like those guys should be shooting the ball opposed to driving and trying to shoot in the mid-range or go for whatever you guys I feel like I shouldn’t have to explain this, but yeah, thank you guys for watching this short little video. I hope you guys got a little bit of more of an understanding if you guys did kind of feel that way, I guess. But yeah, thank you guys for watching. There’s going to be a lot more free agency stuff coming on. Make sure you drop a like, subscribe, and I’ll see you guys in the next one. Peace.

  1. Ugh people just saying stupid stuff. It makes sense what he's saying. Dam people making me defend a player I don't like. Either way he's a big baby.

  2. He's holding his TEAM back with this mentality ESPECIALLY at his age, i mean i get what he means but behind what he is saying is some diva petty mindset that doesn't make the team want to play their best. Just look at all the teams he's been a part of they were never good enough for him and they always collapse, even the gsw dynasty he joined grew cold with him on the team. Look at when book and this team was thriving… when we had a fluid offense with CHEMISTRY. Not some toxic Legend who takes five years to get to his shot and dulls the offense. KD can never LEAD a team to a championship with this mental thats why he needed steph and klay and dray who already knew their roles. But without gsw he would be like TMAC in regards to his legacy. I really hope this new coach of the suns is able to weed out this behavior from any of our top players and get on the okc way of playing bot this selfish star basketball. SGA and Hali and Joker are best examples of being a superstar that makes his team better more than just scoring and passing out to the three

  3. I think , we- us here in Phoenix…. we're just tired of this punk. He didn't do nothing for us but cause division. He had a hand in the firing of 2 coaches Vogel and Budenholzer

  4. Durant is a loser plain and simple. He won't win at Houston either. Too negative and brings his dirty blanket with him to every team. Y'all will see.

  5. Players can't say anything nowadays without people quickly getting offended. The fans are acting like divas nowadays 🤦🏾‍♂️. That Beal trade literally limited the Suns from building proper depth around Book and KD. That's why Book had to play out of his position. They could never get a good point guard, ever since the Suns let go of CP3

Ever since KD arrived in Phoenix, all I heard was that the Suns should have never traded for him, and that they should have kept the old finals team. Phoenix fans doubted KD from the start and never acknowledge Book's issues.

Y'all just love to hate on this dude KD , so I hope he gets a ring with the Rockets.

  6. What is got from this, is that KD is not coachable. In a game you go for the best shot. You dont regulatr yourself to midrange only. KD thinks ball is rocket science to the rest of the world, which says a lot about his own intelligence.

  7. Not regarding this clip, but I'm so glad he's gone.
Boring isolation basketball is all we ever got with him. He gutted our team and pushed us to sign Beal.
Good luck, Houston. I like what we got for KD. A future.

  8. What he said makes a lot of sense.I think it eas a knock on the previous coach strategy of wanting the entire team shooting 3s. The reason you get 3 and D players are for them to master their roles and if the guys the you built the team around specialize in the midrange 9 times out of 10 he's getting double teamed. When he gets to his spot and draws the defense, all the 3 and D player needs to do is accept the wide open jumper and shoot the rock.

I don't see anything wring with what he said. I like KD as a baller, but there are times where he can appear as extremely pompous and himinded. Contrary to popular belief, money doesn't make you a man and at times can be someone's eternal downfall as well.

But I guess to get to their level in the bball world you have to think extremely highly of yourself especially if you continue to put in the work.

Strategy conversations are good as they help future coaches, players, and even other teams scheme your thought process.
