Memphis Grizzlies MOVE to Nashville Rumors…?
Here’s Brody Brazil. Pretty sure you know the drill already. If you’ve got something on your mind or you want to get it off your chest, give me a call. The phone number is 8334 Brody. I don’t answer. It goes straight to voicemail. You leave your message. If it’s something thoughtful or insightful or if it’s really good, I’ll use it as the topic for a future video here on YouTube. Calls and voicemails just like this one.
Brody Russell, Nashville, Tennessee. Can you dive into this narrative that the Memphis Grizzlies are going to not only leave town but leave for Nashville specifically?
The Grizzlies can’t leave before the end of the 2930 season and just got approved for $550 million in renovations to the FedEx Forum. 80 million of which coming from the city of Memphis taxpayers. Nashville’s already rumored for MLB and other leagues. I’m a native Memphian living in Nashville for the last decade and I don’t want to see this happen. Please help put this rumor to bed. Thanks. and I enjoy your content, Russell. I appreciate the call. I actually wasn’t aware of that narrative, of that rumor, of that speculation, and maybe that just kind of proves your point that there’s no real substance to it. I’m not saying I’m the default expert, but things that are real seem to surface a little bit more. This one hasn’t kind of gotten to that surface level conversation yet. the Nashville Grizzlies. I mean, I’m still on the Vancouver Grizzlies, and no offense to you, but I don’t think they ever should have left Vancouver. I think that would be a great NBA market still. Memphis is fine. Nothing against Memphis. It’s just that Vancouver lost a pretty good opportunity for a team. But now they’re property of Memphis. And what about this Nashville rumor? For people that don’t know, obviously both cities in the state of Tennessee, 212 miles apart, Nashville is always going to be that threat. If you were in Memphis, it’s going to be that, and I didn’t have room to put it here, that sexy threat. Well, if we’re going to not get what we want here, we’ll up and leave to Nashville. They give us what they want or give us what we want in Nashville. Even though the mayor of Nashville recently came out to say that even in terms of public support for a baseball stadium, there would be zero dollars. What they’re doing in helping the Titans build that brand new football stadium, a $2 billion subsidized project, like publicly, there is no more room. They’re tapped out. In fact, I think that was the mayor’s exact term used, tapped out in terms of public financing for stadiums. So, I don’t I don’t know that that threat is accurate anymore. Like you can always take a team to Nashville. The White Socks name dropped Nashville. Was that last summer or two summers ago? Nashville’s always going to be used as kind of that other Vegas, that sexy place to go. In this case, a threat if you’re from Memphis, but I don’t know if there’s any accuracy to that because of a lot of point a lot of the points that you made. I do understand that the Grizzlies have had their training camp twice over the years and once I think in 2013 and then once last year to kick off the season while they were doing some work on FedEx Forum. So maybe that’s some of the ideas and speculation that they were testing things out over in Nashville while their home is in Memphis. But I also realize that this is Memphis having a big four pro sports team that Nashville doesn’t. And to your point, Nashville is trying to be that city that has every single one of the big four. They’ve already got football. They’ve already got the NHL. They’re to some degree with the Nashville stars and other groups over time. They’re working on Major League Baseball. And so the NBA is already in their state. It’s just not in their city yet. And because of that, I get it. There’s always going to be some commentary, some thought, and some threat about this Memphis team moving. Now, you mentioned the $550 million that’s already allocated to FedEx Forum. I did do a little bit of research and background on that. I’ve heard that number is the target amount that they think they need to fix up FedEx Forum over the years, but from what I’ve understood, the city has allocated only $230 million. And to your point, they just approved the first $80 million back in March of 2025. Now, should that money secure the team in Memphis for a lot longer than 2029? Yes, absolutely it should. I don’t know what they’re doing. I don’t know the details of these approvals, but let’s hope that the city of Memphis, while they’re funneling more money to the home of the Memphis Grizzlies, that they’re also going to extend the contractual obligation of that basketball team to actually stay in Memphis. I’m going to keep my eye on this story. I’m not saying that it’s completely impossible, but I am saying right now that it’s highly unlikely. I don’t know the sources of this. I get the idea that it’s always going to be an option. It’s always going to be a tease out there. It’s always going to get people’s ears and attention that, hey, the Grizzlies might go to Nashville. I just don’t think at this point because of some of the money invested, because of maybe some of the ties already to Memphis, it just does not seem likely to move 212 miles apart. I will say I can never see how the NBA would allow two teams to coexist in this day and age. You can already tell me about the teams in the New York in the New York metropolitan area or two teams in the Los uh Los Angeles metroplex area or even Sacramento and Golden State being only about 90 miles apart. Those teams and those cities and those basically dual markets have existed for a long time. Not Sacramento and the Bay, but the other two. But the point is here, I just don’t see another team going into Nashville in the NBA with the Memphis Grizzlies still existing. Again, I’m not going to claim to be the expert on this very topic, but haven’t heard anything about it. Doesn’t make a lot of sense to your point. I will keep an eye on it, though, and if the situation warrants it, you know, I’ll definitely be covering it here on this YouTube channel. That’s the end of this one. Thumbs up down below. Greatly helps me, the video, and the channel. Don’t forget to subscribe. I’d love to see you back here next time.

Most conversations about NBA expansion center on Las Vegas or Seattle.
But Cavs star Darius Garland has a different idea. Asked by The Athletic where the NBA should expand, Garland had a different idea.
“Nashville, because I live there. How about we move Memphis to Nashville, put a team in Vegas, a team in Paris, a team in Dubai and a team in Saint-Tropez?” Garland said.
That’s not going to endear him to Grizzlies fans.
The idea of moving the Grizzlies to Nashville has been floated before. In 2023, J.J. Redick said the idea “makes sense” after former NBA player Evan Turner floated it on a podcast. Redick, now the coach of the Lakers, later apologized.

Any one remember when the titans played in Memphis?
Move the grizz back home. Vancouver is a bigger market than even Nashville with lots of cash flowing from Asia. If the nba is serious about being international, they should give Vancouver their team back.
Give CGY a team
Detroit
🏀
Vancouver is such a beautiful place! If I had to live in Canada that’s the place I would choose and it’s not even close.
Go back to Vancouver Canada 🇨🇦
They deserve a team again they got screwed the first time around
More than likely, this 'rumor' probably comes down to one, simple fact: Memphis is a sheet-hole, and as a result, the team's ticket sales and overall revenue would go up in Nashville (even more-so if they're playing in an entertainment district alongside the Predators and any future WNBA franchise). As for the arena, I can seem them handing that over to the University of Memphis on a permanent basis as their anchor tenant.
Have lived in Nashville since 2012. There is NO way the Grizzlies are moving here. And don’t do that to Memphis, it’s the only team they got
Nashville has an arena and it’s already being renovated however with 42 predators games plus playoffs and the huge amount events at the arena it is probably more profitable to host events at the arena than 41 home games for an NBA team just because there would be so many blackout dates for concerts and other events.
I don't see it… but I do say that Nashville would be the ONLY city that Memphis leaves for.
The coolest part about Memphis is that the grizzlies used to play in a literal pyramid on the mighty Mississippi line they were pharoahs on the Nile
How about "Memphis Grizzlies move BACK to Vancouver. Now there's a relocation that I can get behind.
Memphian here this is not true the Grizzlies are not moving to Nashville idk who made this rumor up but this is a flat out lie
As a Nashvillian, this is not happening. Keep the Grizzlies in Memphis. Nashville is in no way, shape, or form capable of having an NBA team. The NBA passed on Nashville twice. The only thing Nashville cares about is Broadway and its bars.
As a non NBA fan
I think the Grizzlies might stay in Nashville temporarily until FeDexForum is under renovation, and probably they'll be named the "Tennessee Grizzlies" for a shoet stint
yea probably, bridgestone arena for their nhl team is getting renovated because its obvious the city also wants it to be used by an nba team. its has always been the plan they want a mlb team and nba team. they were always gonna get these teams nashville is a growing city with may transplants moving there and also look at how its full of tourists their vegas 2.0 for sports teams both are cities full of tourists.
I wouldn't see them moving to Nashville. But if they move for some reason, move them to Louisville ky. They already have an NBA ready arena.
Brodie getting phone calls from ppl leaving in Nashville. lol Brodie is almost international now.
No way, Memphis spent a lot of money building the FedEx Forum which is a good arena. There needs to be a balance of sports between Memphis and Nashville so No the Grizzlies are not leaving Memphis, Memphis should get a wnba team someday
I could see ticket revenue potentially being higher in Nashville, but Nashville could never love the Grizzlies more than Memphis does.
Nashville has a very nice NHL arena with Bridgestone. Not sure how easy it is to accommodate NBA in an NHL but seems like it would be easier than NHL in an NBA arena (think Delta centre in Utah)
The team belongs in Vancouver ! No grizzlies in Memphis
I remember when the grizzlies almost moved to Louisville right before they went to Memphis
I live in Nashville and I'm a huge basketball fan. This video is the first time I'm hearing this "rumor". Can't imagine this is any bigger than our big hot take artist on the radio.
Tennessee Grizzlies
Move the Grizzlies to Tampa
Why does it sound like when people talk about grizzlies leaving Vancouver it’s like nba shouldn’t have left but oh well they’re in Memphis now but when people bring up thunder it’s like the team did something wrong leaving Seattle?
Nashville will get the WNBA, not the NBA. With the backing of the Haslem family, Peyton Manning, Tim McGraw, Faith Hill, and Candace Parker, as well as naming the team the “Summitt” after Pat, THAT feels like an inevitability.
The name is so stupid. When I went to Vancouver, I took a tram to a Grizzly reserve on Grouse Mountain. How many Grizzlies does Tennessee have? I'm thinking, uh…zero.
Ain’t no way you deadass said you don’t think grizzlies shouldn’t have left Vancouver with all the financial struggles
At least it would solve the issue of who moves to the eastern conference in the event 2 western cities get expansion franchises.
Move them back to Vancouver where they really belong grizzlies are not in Tennessee
The grizzlies would be wise to leave Memphis. That place is a violent crime ridden mess. Typical democrat stronghold.
Fix Memphis first. Stay in Memphis
Nashville is a hot city right now, agreed. But Memphis is the better basketball city.
Memphian here- No one in Memphis is talking about moving the team to Nashville.
Move the Grizzlies back to Vancouver!
This is the equivalent of moving the Carolina Hurricanes from Raleigh to Charlotte. No credible rumor or threat.
I was born and raised in Memphis (although living on the eastern side of the state)—all things aside on the political side and everything else I do not see it. Nashville PROBABLY will get baseball—I think any Nashville native will tell you ("where? where they gonna play)? lol where's the money? i don't see it—I remember when the Forum was built in 2004 (was one of the nicer facility in the league). Brodie, love the show and the convo–I'll tell you just in totality we are approaching the metaphorical edge of the cliff (we are probably in the Wiley Coyote stage where he is in "mid fall" when he fails to catch the Road Runner) where tax payers are saying "millions of money to improve stadiums or arenas—cool beans we are in"—The Chiefs being a prime example (and they won a Super Bowl). I think if any of these leagues and these crazy wealthy types want these types of things they better foot the bill themselves. The TV networks and cable? They said "no mas" since Amazon and Netflix are in the "we need inventory" game—tax payers are way past tapped out!
Back to Vancouver
Not sure I see this rumor happening for real, though it’s interesting.
Nashville is just too small to have all four (or five if you count MLS) major sports leagues. It has a metro population of 1.98 million, which is smaller than many markets that only have one or two teams. Even three teams might be a bit of a stretch. I also don’t think that the will to lure them there is strong as they are (pointlessly) building a $2 billion stadium for the Titans even though their current one is only 25 years old. Plus, I don’t see why the Grizzlies would leave Memphis when they have the market all to themselves. It’s not like the arena there is that old or in bad condition.
Yes! Bring back the Grizzlies!
They should get a expansion team
Those rumors have been around for quite some time.
Nashville couldn't support a NBA team and a NHL team
Unlikely, but idle the team moves to Nashville then you gotta rebrand the team. Pull a Hornets, and free up the name Grizzlies in the event Vancouver gets another team.
Should have stayed in Vancouver
