NBA LIVE! Golden State Warriors vs Los Angeles Lakers LIVE | July 3, 2025 | NBA PRESEASON | NBA 2K25

And inside the locker room, everyone trying to lock in. Get mentally ready for another hardfought NBA battle. [Music] Welcome to 2K Sports. We have the NBA coming up. Great to have you with us here with the great Richard Jefferson and Grant Hill. I’m Brian Anderson and Ally Leforce, our reporter. And now the Los Angeles starters. Reeves at the two with LeBron at the three. Rui Hachimura is out there with Hayes and it’s Donic in at the one spot. And for the Warriors, Curry and Pods make up the back court. Green out there with Butler. And it’s Moody in at the three, the small forward. Well, Grant, this is not your average regular season game. These teams are fierce rivals. Oh, yes, they are. BA, I love playing in these type of games. I mean, the fans are extra loud. The players are fired up. This will be fun. [Applause] Now here’s Reeves defended by Pajimski. Hayes. The pass to Donic. No good on the three. And it’s Butler with the ball for the Warriors. Oh, it’s stolen by Donic. Snatched away. Moody with it. Aimura covering and he dunks it down.
He was way ahead of the pack. No one around to contest. He can do anything he wants in that situation.
And those might be the easiest points of the month for him.
Now here’s Donic. [Applause] James outside the open shot. Donic. The shot’s good on the assist by James.
And give Luca the ball and you know what happens next. Instantly he finds a shot. Pass to Curry. Green with a screen on Donic. The three from Curry. Rebound. The Lakers.
And he almost made them regret defending him so loosely. And it’s blocked. What a play as he just snatches the shot out of midair. Moody on the wing. Aimura covering. Here’s Curry. Oh, and he took a hard foul on the shot. So he’ll head to the line to shoot a pair. It’s going to go on Jackson Hayes.
This just demonstrates how fearless Curry is. Look, he knows how to get inside and draw plenty of fouls. Take a break. Take a break. Two shots. [Applause] First one falls. You know, Grant, after losing in the first round last season, it felt like changes were inevitable for the Lakers.
Yeah. Making the playoffs isn’t enough for that franchise. They are all about championship success. And anything short of that is a failure. And so Curry nails both of them. That’s what he does. Rock solid at the line
for Los Angeles. They’ve gone one for three so far. Pass to Aimura. Donic left side. Deflects the pass and that’ll be Los Angeles ball as it goes out of bounds. Lakers able to keep the possession. And let’s swing it over to the sideline and hear from Alli.
Head coach Steve Ker and I got a chance to talk for a bit. I asked him how they plan to deal with Luca Dantic and he said, “Look, we all know what Luca can do. He’ll get his points, but we can’t let him take over. We have to maintain our focus on defense for every minute of all four quarters.
And Ally, thank you for that. Oh, nothing soft about that.
Was not going to be denied. Just took the dunk that was right in front of him.
And that’s his Mo physical. Get in position for the put back and throw it down. The defense got to know that’s what he’s looking to do.
Here’s Curry after the Lakers picking up a basket just moments ago. Here’s Butler. It’s Hayes with the rebound for Los Angeles. They’ve gone two for five here in the first. Donic passes to Hayes. And there’s James from the arc. Gets his second attempt to go. Now he’s one for two.
I like how fast Vaughn makes decisions. Reading the defense ahead of time, rising and shooting with confidence. Pass to Pajimski. And here’s Moody. Check by James. Clock at six. Here’s Curry from the arc. Connects from downtown. Curry’s got five now. What a respond from Curry. Got to know he’s coming for his revenge. Now here’s Donic. He’s covered by Curry on the wing. Aimura. The shot is good. Donic making the play. That’s how you up the ante. come right back at him.
Yeah, I love the competitive fire right there. You drain a triple on us and I’m coming for my revenge.
And Steve Kerr calls timeout. He wants to review the game plan. Heat. [Applause] Heat. [Applause] [Applause] [Applause] [Applause] [Applause] Pass to Butler. Oh, nice finish from the low block. That one’s good. How talented is Butler? I mean, just so adept at carving out some space inside and converting. And first quarter, we’re about three and a half minutes in. Donic passes to Reeves.
The deep three and the Lakers hit again from deep.
You don’t want to let him get into a rhythm from out there. Warriors trail by four. Outside Pajki pass to Green now. Here’s Curry for three. And that one’s good. And Green with the assist. Curry’s got eight. When Curry gets a look that’s good, he is automatic. There is almost no stopping him. Los Angeles has gone three of four on threes here in this first quarter. Grant, when you look at Draymond Green’s career, you think he’s going to the Hall of Fame? You know, BA, I believe so. He’s won multiple titles and we know how impactful he has been as a defender and distributor especially. I think we’ll see him in Springfield one day.
That’s a blueco collar bucket right there. Grown man basket putting in the work. Got a second chance to score outside. Pajki pass to Green outside. Moody. Six on the shot clock. [Applause] Now here’s Pajki. He’s covered by Reeves. The shot by Pajki. No good. Los Angeles leading by three. Here’s James. The rebound by Moody. That’s their plan to get him an opportunity to finish in tight. That’s a miss they can live with. Now here’s Pachki. Tightly guarded. The three ball. It’s rebounded by Los Angeles. Outside Reeves out of bounds. It’ll go to the Warriors. Finny Smith’s checked in for
Achimura. Here’s Pimsky yet to see a basket [Applause] outside. Curry and play stops. A whistle there on what looks like an illegal screen. You’re not going to fool the officials too often on an illegal screen.
That’s a very avoidable turnover. You got to focus on the details. Los Angeles leading by three now. Donic. Seven points in the game. Oh, and makes it with the kiss. Donic has got nine. Oh my. Tight defense, but Donic just muscles it in. Here’s Pajimski outside Green and it’s stolen by Finny Smith. Here’s James on the wing. Moody defends. Pass to Reeves. Plenty of space. That’s good on the jumper. The selfless attitude of James. When someone on his team has a clean look, look, he feeds him. And Steve Kerr calls timeout here. I think right now he must be looking at some adjustments. And Richard, after going undrafted back in 2016, what a career for Dorian Finny Smith, approaching a decade in this league. He’s been a starter for most of that time, but he continues to be the definition of a three ND glue guy. Heat. Heat. [Applause] [Applause] [Applause] [Applause] [Applause] [Applause] [Applause] Now here’s Moody. Check by James. Outside Butler. Pass to Moody. Five to shoot to the inside and there’s Curry on the assist from Butler. Curry’s got 10. He’s a magician inside. Curry always finds a window. And so it’s Donic with it. He brings it up for Los Angeles. Leading by five. [Applause] Hayes with a screen on Curry inside and down it goes. Jam that one home.
Wow. That type of finish is just deflating right now for a team that’s trying to make a comeback. Ouch. That’s certainly a big time finish right there. It was one big exclamation point or maybe even a question mark. And so it’s Golden State with it following the score by Los Angeles. Here we go.
Green with a screen on Donic. Puts up a three and Curry is good for three. 13 points in the game. On a night like tonight, Steph Curry is mustwatch basketball. He can score from anywhere. [Applause] Outside Finny Smith from deep. Here’s Donic. They grab their own miss. Back to Finny Smith. The three is up. drops in the three and the Lakers lead by seven. I know it’s early, but you have to wonder if these offenses can keep this up.
There will be some let down at some point, but these teams, they are built to score. So, [Applause] Los Angeles has gone four of seven from three-point range here in the first. Hammers the lob through and the lead increases on a crazy offensive sequence. Man, the dunk alone would have been incredible. Let alone the fact that it came off a pinpoint pass. Here’s Curry. He’s got 13. Outside. Butler launches it. Rebound. The Lakers. Hayes has got his sixth rebound on the night. Outside. Reeves. [Applause] Screen by James. Lets it go from deep. The shot by Reeds. No good. Given his range, you’d expect him to capitalize on that opening. Pass to Butler. Green. A screen. The three and he buries his first look. Must have been too good to pass up because Green is kind of picky from the arc. Now Donic out to James and he can’t answer back. The three-pointer offline. Warriors trail by six. Left side. Pajki. Good. And Butler gets the assist. Butler’s got three assists in the game. Obviously, this guy has a talent for scoring. Able to problem solve for whatever the defense tosses at him. And the Lakers shooting 55% an ideal start so far. Pass to finish Smith. James outside with the floater and he was fouled while in the act of shooting. So he’ll take two free throws. But how about LeBron? Even if he’s no longer the clear-cut best player in the league, he can still take over a game. RJ,
oh, make no mistake. He is still the best when he needs to be. absolutely has a switch that gets flipped when he needs it. It’s not on for 48 minutes, but he can definitely turn it on for a few. That free throw good from James.
What I appreciate about LeBron is how much he loves being a leader. He knows how much his teammates count on him.
Vanderbilts checked in for Los Angeles. Vincent comes in for Donic. hits one then misses the second attempt from the line now well into his 30s. Is it fair to start wondering how many seasons Jimmy Butler has left Grant? Well, it’s a fair question BA but at the same time Jimmy’s hunger is just so different than everybody else’s which I could see helping prolong his career. Concentration off the charts. A chance for LeBron James to add one more.
And guys, let’s get your take on the scoring breakdown for Los Angeles.
Well, they’re off to a good start getting it inside and scoring at close range. Solid fundamentals so far in this one.
And following off of what you said, they’ve really done a good job distributing the ball, passing up good shots for great ones. [Applause] Warriors trail by eight. Pass to Jackson Davis. Butler against Vanderbilt. And there’s Butler. That one’s good on the assist by Kuminga. I wouldn’t say Butler seeks contact, but he sure doesn’t turn it down. James with the ball. He’s got seven. Reeves with a screen on Kuminga. It’s stolen by Kuminga. Oh, what a fast break for the Warriors. Here’s Payton. Rebounded by the Lakers. James passes to Finny Smith and a strong finish with two hands. slams it down with two hands. Man, they’re really getting aggressive now. 146 left in the first. Now here’s Heel. Hasn’t gotten one to fall yet. Lets the three fly. Rebounded by LeBron. Los Angeles leading by eight. Driving to the basket outside Reeves. Vanderbilt. A screen on Peyton. Back to Vanderbilt. Six to shoot to the middle. Here’s Butler and it’s out of bounds. Last touch by Vanderbilt. Curry. He’s checked in for Jimmy Butler. Connect checked in for the Lakers. [Applause] Heel passes to Peyton. Screen screen
out to Heel. Intercepted. Here’s Connect. Pass to Finny. Smith. Here’s Vincent. A chance to push it to double digits, but it’s off the mark. Warriors trail by eight. Outside Curry. [Applause] Peyton against Reeves. Peyton passes to Curry. And it’s off from three-point range. And it’s a Lakers ball. 9 seconds separating the shot clock and game clock. Here’s Vanderbilt. And Vanderbilt slams it in. Boy, I like their energy coming in. Terrific execution so far.
Couldn’t come up with a much better start than this. They just have to keep it going. Here’s Curry following the score by Los Angeles. [Applause] Five on the clock. Golden State needs to get off a shot.
A quality pass. Setting up a quality shot. Just textbook basketball. Oh, what a performance by Luca Donuch. He has been the story for Los Angeles. Hunting for opportunities leading to nine points in the quarter. We’ll be right back. [Applause] If you’re just joining us, we played through one quarter in this one. What do you guys think about Los Angeles here in this one? Well, it’s simple. When you can dominate the boards at both ends, you can control the second chance touches and rebounding numbers. Sometimes we overlook them, but they can have a big effect on the outcome. Here’s Curry. And the Lakers looking at who they’ve got. Jared Vanderbilt out there with Connect. Then it’s Gabe Benson. Then there’s Dorian Finny Smith. And it’s Reeves in at the two guard spot. [Applause] Here’s the pick. Heel for three. And the Warriors with another three.
Comes right off the pick and knocks it down. Great use of the screen by Heel.
Los Angeles leading by four. [Applause] And here’s Reeves. Well, we have a chance to hear from Shams Gerania. He’s calling in right now. Shams, great to have you on, bud. Thanks. Many consider this summer to be the most challenging field in the history of international basketball. Nevertheless, Team USA got it done in Paris. It’s not getting any easier, but the star power of the US men’s team shine bright in the city of lights. Guys, a classic ending for a stacked US roster.
What a performance. John Sterania with the report. Thanks, Shams. And the Lakers with possession here after the Warriors picking up a basket just a moment ago. Vanderbilt. A screen on heel. Just five to shoot. And Vanderbilt slams it in. Impressive one hand slam right there. Ba man, as long as he’s confident about it, I’m good with it. Maybe use two hands next time. He knows where he is. Here’s Curry following the score by the Lakers. Pass to Payton. Now here’s Jackson Davis. He’s marked by Finny Smith. Left side Kaminga. Back to Curry from deep three-point range. Not on target. Four for nine in this one. The Lakers lead by four. [Applause] Here’s Connect. No made baskets yet. three-pointer and he varies his first look. That right there, that’s the kind of look this system is designed to create.
Second quarter play with around 2 minutes gone so far. Now he six points for him. Curry. Oh, a strong finish from Curry. Not just a jump shooter. Curry is so creative at figuring out little ways to score inside. Reeves. The pass to Vincent. [Applause] Back to Reeves. Takes the three and it’s Dorian Finny Smith with the foul. That’s his first foul. You give a shooter of his caliber that much time to seam it up. Oh yeah, you’re done.
Looney’s checked in for the Warriors. Aimura’s checked in for Los Angeles. Good one comes in for Vincent. Warriors trail by eight. Heel finds Looney [Applause] up top. Curry.
15 points in the game. Look at Curry getting crafty, ensuring he gets fouled while in the act of shooting. He’s gone two for two at the line so far. shooting two. And that one falls for Curry. [Applause] [Applause] both good from the line that time and Reeves has got the ball here for the Los Angeles Lakers. They’ve led by as much as 10. Pass to Aimura. Back to Reeves. Shot clock at six. Launches the three and another three for the Lakers. What are you doing? You can’t give a player like him that much space. Come on now. Kaminga with a screen on Reeves and they call an illegal screen here. The screener was leaning a bit right there. His feet may not have been planted. Pretty obvious call by the officials. Look, guys get away with this all the time, but on this occasion, he got caught.
Green’s checked in for the Warriors. Pajimky comes in for healed. James has checked in for Los Angeles. Now, here is James. Seven points in the game. Down low. Here’s Connect. The shots good on the assist by James. Connect’s got five now. and just totally relentless, only increasing the intensity level.
Always plays hard until the final whistle, no matter what the situation is. There’s James on the wing. Floats one up. Oh, LeBron sending it home.
Soft touch on the floater from James. It’s impressive how well he can adjust his mechanics to almost any situation. And the Warriors with possession here. Curry passes to Kaminga on the wing. Curry, he’s covered by Reeves. And that one good. Curry’s got six here in the corner. Yeah, he was able to sneak it to the rim. Had enough room to get just like an easy layup. And here are the Lakers. They’re on a 15-6 run. Has to connect. James against Payton. James up top. Nine points in the game. Here comes LeBron. He hits it. His fourth make in 10 tries.
You want to talk about grown man strength? You want to talk about big boy basketball? LeBron James just accepting the punishment and getting it done.
Now here’s Kaminga trailing by 13. Rejected by James. And so it looks like the Warriors will retain possession here. And we have to take another look at that block. Yeah, just some terrific effort there. And you know, the whole team will get an energy boost off a block like that one.
And Los Angeles making a change here. Goodwin’s checked in. outside. Pajki. Six on the shot clock from downtown gets it to go. That makes him two for three in this game. The Lakers lead by 10. Good one. Passes to Aimura. [Applause] outside. Finny Smith Back to Aimura. [Applause] The Lakers got to get one up. Late clock. Good work there as it goes. Reeves has got 10. Well orchestrated. And then the pass is right on the money. And his defenses have adjusted to Austin Reeves scoring. Richard, he’s countered with the pass. Austin Reeves doesn’t get enough credit for how good his handle is, how much it’s improved. It’s allowed for him to score, get into different places, and make these passes.
Here’s Goodwin still without a bucket. Outside Reeves. Here’s James punching it inside. LeBron. Yeah, just too much big boy basketball by LeBron James. Just bodying defenders inside.
Get it. Come get it.
Curry passes to Peyton. [Applause] Curry against Reeds. Shot is good by Curry. Curry’s got 21.
And once more this half they find a way to get great position inside. Here’s Goodwin defended by Pajimky. outside. Reeves off target with the three. And he probably thought he was going to bury that one. And it’s Green missing. The Lakers lead by 12. [Applause] Reeves with the ball. It’s good. 12 points for him.
And the defense has no one to blame but themselves. I mean, they just let him get right to the rim. That’s a great possession. Put your best players in a position to succeed.
And Steve Kerr calls time out here. He wants to make sure everybody’s on the same page. [Applause] [Applause] Thank you. [Applause] And some changes here for the Warriors. Jimmy Butler’s checked in for Kaminga and Moody is subbed in for Payton. Vanderbilt’s checked in for the Lakers. Donic comes in for Reeves. [Applause] And here are the Warriors now. They trail by 14. Curry passes to Green. Oh, look at Green inside. And this is where Green looks to score. He’s comfortable and confident down low. And so it’s Donic with it. He brings it up for the Lakers. Pass to good one. Now James. Moody defends. James passes to Aimura. Butler with a steal and it’s out of bounds. Last touch by Moody. And the Warriors making a switch here. Heels checked in. Donic finds James. Here’s Goodwin. Takes a three. That falls. Nice feed that time from James. James has got six assists now in the game. Now here’s Pachki. He’s got five outside. Butler back to Pajki. Pass to Heel from outside the ark. Vanderbilt pulls it in. The Lakers lead by 15. And here’s James. He’s got 13. Vimsky grabs the board. The Warriors have gotten seven of 12 shots to go here in the second. Pass to Heel and he knocks it down. He’s three of five now from the floor. And a little contact never stopped Heel. A committed scorer who knows how to keep his balance on his shot. Here’s Donic. Nine points in the game. [Applause] on the wing. Aimura. [Applause] Just five on the clock. The Warriors pull it in. Pass to Heel. Green. A screen off target from three-point range. Los Angeles has got it going from distance in the second quarter. Four of five from deep. And here’s Donic outside and his fifth basket now. Five for eight. Looking comfortable out there. Encouraging to see Donic sink the three. Needs to keep doing this now. Pajimky into the lane. Uses the glass to finish the layup. Pajimki’s got seven. [Applause] Los Angeles leading by 14. Donic passes to James. Oh, a clear foul there on the missed shot. So, he’ll get a pair at the line. It’s going to go on Draymond Green.
See right there, you know, you have to foul LeBron James because you just have no chance to stop him. Los Angeles shooting their fourth and fifth shots at the foul line in this game. That free throw good from James. And some changes here for the Lakers. Hayes has checked in for Vanderbelt and Austin Reeves is subbed in for Goodwin. [Applause] and good on the second. So he makes them both. Warriors trail by 16. Outside Pajki back to Butler. Here’s the teardrop. rebounded by the Lakers. Hayes has got seven rebounds in the game. Fires from 14 and he drops that one in. James has got 10 points in the quarter. Look, James is so good at disguising his pullup jumper. Here’s Pinky. Sinks that one from the post. [Applause] The Lakers lead by 16. Outside Reeves and Donage the bucket on the assist by Reeves. Reeves has got three assists now in this one. Golden State has gone two of six from distance here in the second quarter. Outside heel on the wing. Green. Clock at six outside. Pajimski fires the three. Aimuro with a rebound and the Lakers shooting great. 62% from the field and continuing to get it done. On the wing, Ashimura and the three off target. Yeah, and the defense has really got to tighten up on him. I mean, he’s just too dangerous from the three-point line. Back to Heel. Let’s go with a three. And that one goes four for seven for him so far. You got to expect this from a high volume shooter with range like heel. He loves to let threes fly from everywhere.
Pass to Reeves. Set up. Now here’s Duched closely. Boy, he overdid it there. Too much force on the foul and he’s called for the flaggered one.
You know, it’s just hard to watch a player put the well-being of an opponent at risk. He rightfully earned that flagrant.
Yeah, the officials are all over that one, sending a clear message that that kind of roughness is unacceptable. That’s good from Donic. In 2024, Luca Donuch recorded six consecutive 30point triple double games. That’s right, BA. The first time anyone has done it in NBA history. So, if you didn’t already believe in Luca Magic, well, there’s some proof that the magic is real. Looney’s checked in for Green. 44 seconds left in the first half. Hayes, the pass to Reeves. Donic outside. [Applause] Kept alive. Here’s Aimura. Burries it down low. Aimura’s got five now. And that’s a back breaker for the defense. I mean, offensive boards like that run momentum against you.
And you can see them just deflate after giving up that score. And they know that they can’t dig themselves out of this hole if they’re allowing second chance points. Now here’s Donic defended by Pachki. Donic good. Even with the score as it is, he just keeps coming at you. fires away from way outside and that’s not going to go. Misses at the buzzer. And so it’s the Los Angeles Lakers. They’re feeling great. A 21-point lead and they’ve been shooting the lights out from the ark. All those threes have this poise for a blowout. All right, now let’s check in with Ally Leforce. Ally, what do you have
here with coach Steve Kerr? Your defense struggling to contain them in the first half. How do you remedy it? We got to get back in transition. We got to make them feel us. You know, they’re just running anything they want. We’ve got to at least disrupt the stuff they’re trying to do.
Thank you, coach. All right, Ally. Thanks for that. We will see everyone right back after this break. Ready for the second half. Heat. [Applause] Heat. And with a big gap on the scoreboard, the second half begins with very different goals for these teams. One side trying to mount a comeback, one side trying to protect their lead. Stephen Curry having a dominant impact in this game.
He’s hit shot after shot from deep. He’s so locked in right now. If I’m his teammate, I keep feeding the hot hand, especially since he’s been on fire from deep. Also, Warriors trail by 21. Curry and Pods make up the back court. Jimmy Butler out there with Moody and it’s Green in at the center position. So, that’s the group out there for Golden State. Now, here’s Curry. There’s the triple. Donic grabs the miss on the wing. Reeves defended by Pajimski. Reeves the pass to Donic
for three. Rebounded by Green and the Warriors shooting at a respectable 49%. Here’s Pajki. Pass to Curry. Left side. Green. Shot clock at five. Outside. Pajimsky from deep. Sinks the tray. Pajimski’s got 12 points in the game.
And his fantastic performance from the last game has carried over to tonight. He’s just riding the wave of momentum right now. Getting to his spots and keeping things simple on the offensive side. Warriors trail by 18. Pass to Curry. Outside. Pajki. The three is up. It’s Hayes with the rebound. Hayes has got eight rebounds in the game. That one’s good from James on the assist from Donic. James has got 19 points. Now look, a coach is going to trust LeBron James to just put up monster numbers because that’s who he is. But it is nice to see him get into a nice groove like this. Outside Pajki Hachimura against Butler left side green and stolen by Hayes. Left side Reeves pass to Donic. Defenders have to play Donic tightly. He knows that and uses the pump fake to his advantage.
This is his second trip to the line in the game. Shooting two. [Applause] And he knocks down the first one. And Donas is a walking triple double threat. His versatility and confidence is really special. And he can hit the second. Warriors trail by 21. lets it fly from 18 and good as it takes a nice bounce off the right iron and down. Pajimski’s got 14.
Well, I guess we could give him credit for not getting discouraged. They’re still playing hard. He’s doing his job out there.
It’s stolen by Curry. And here comes the break over Reeves. Curry’s shot is off. The Lakers lead by 19. Back to Reeves. Pass to James [Applause] and again the Lakers no good. The Warriors have gone two of five in this third quarter. Here’s Green and the shot is good. Dropping it in off the front of the rim. He has seven. And hey, Draymond will make you pay from there when he’s given the chance. Great shot. Donic finds James. Back to Donic. Shoots over Curry in. Close. He hits it. Donic has got 21 points in the game.
Yeah, it’s easy to see why they go to him so often because they know they can depend on him to come through for him. The Warriors have gotten three of six shots to fall so far in the third. And Steve Kerr calls timeout. He’s going to gather the troops and talk it over. [Applause] [Applause] Heat. [Music] Heat. Heat. Heat. outside Pajki. Just under three and a half minutes played here in the third quarter. Curry passes to Butler. Six to shoot. Green with a screen on Aimura. Moody from outside. Hits the three-pointer. Moody’s got five points. When he gets a quality look like this at the perimeter, he can almost be automatic. And Donic has got the ball here for the Lakers. Outside Reeves. Back to Donic from behind the ark. Knocks down the triple. Donic has got 24 points. And look at Luca now getting aggressive at the ark. He was eager to answer that last three. Let’s check in with our reporter Ally Leforce.
A new day. The Spurs Victor Webbyama said, “A few years back it was more of a guards game, but now it’s come back to a big men’s game. We’ve got guys all around the league who do a lot of stuff despite being very tall. It’s the way the game changes. You just have to adapt, Brian. The gauntlet has been thrown.”
And I like it. Good stuff, Ally. Thank you. That’s how you up the ante. Come right back at him. Yeah, I love the competitive fire right there. You drain a triple on us and I’m coming for my revenge. Now here’s Hayes. Clock at six. Shoots from 12. Rebounded by Green. Green’s got rebound number five here tonight. Here’s Butler. Rebound. The Lakers. Donic has got his fourth rebound in this one. Aimura outside. Back to Donic. Jacks up a three. Gets rebounded by Golden State. Kajjimski’s got five rebounds tonight. Pass to Curry. Green with a screen on Reeves. Curry surveys. The three. Rebound by the Lakers. Ooh, that’s a tough break. After poor communication defensively, it leaves him all by himself. And here’s James. Double team on James. Hi Mura from long range. But Jimky grabs the board.
Yeah, you know he usually makes you pay from that range. Richard, it’s nice to have the versatility of a guy like Hachim Mura. Equally comfortable at either forward position.
Well, he’s got the size and strength of a modernday NBA power forward, but he also has the ability to stretch the floor and knock down a three. That’s a nice combo.
The shots good. Donic has got 26.
And their offense tonight is Luca, Luca, and more Luca. When he’s on, it’s an opponent’s worst nightmare.
And here are the Warriors. Now it’s an 18-point game. Butler against Achimurov looking to end his cold spell. It’s good. And he drew contact on the shot, so he will go to the line. A three-point play opportunity. And a look now at how the offensive approach has been going here so far for the Lakers.
Oh, they’ve been punishing the inside defense consistently in this one. Look, it’s been a very productive area of the floor for them.
Yeah, another thing you notice are all the assists. The ball just has energy and everyone is getting involved. And the Warriors making a switch here. Payton’s checked in. That’s good from Butler. Now Reeves. 12 points for him. Pass to Hayes. Donic with it. He’s covered by Curry. Donic outside. There’s the three. Knocks it down from distance. Donic has got 11 points here in the second half. Got to fight harder to get over those screens.
Yeah, as soon as these guys feel contact, they are just disappearing like they’re not even there. You got to show some fire and keep defending. Now, here’s Butler. He has seven. A big part of his game offensively. Green fantastic at the pick and roll game. [Applause] Donic with it outside. Reeves. Back to Donic. The shot no good. Green with the defensive effort. Warriors trail by 16. Outside Pajki. Back to Green. and he drains it. A solid five for six now for Los Angeles. They’ve gotten five of 12 shots to drop in the third. outside Reeves. The rebound by Payton. Golden State has gone three of seven from deep so far in the third quarter. Reeves brings a double. This one for three. Payton no good. Los Angeles leading by 14. And here’s Donic outside. Rebounded by Butler. Butler’s got his fifth rebound on this one. Pass to Curry. Green with a screen on Donic. Left side. Green outside. Butler. Now here’s Curry.
And a great assist by Butler as that one goes.
Curry’s got 24 points. Yeah, most of the time you assume Curry’s three ball is falling. That’s how good he is.
And we’ve got a timeout called by JJ Reic. We might see him looking to make some tweaks to the strategy here. Let’s [Applause] [Applause] go on. Heat. Heat. [Applause] And some changes here for the Warriors. Jackson Davis comes in for Green and Heield is subbed in for Curry. [Applause] Here’s [Applause] Reeves. Oh, another basket for him. He’s six of 11 though.
Used the pick to perfection and got all the way to the rim. [Applause] Now here’s PMski. He’s got 17. Pass to Butler. The teardrop. Got a piece of it. And here’s Donic. That’s 29 for him. Reeves finds Donic. Reeves with a screen on Butler and here’s Donic outside. The Warriors pull it in. And that’s exactly how tightly you have to guard him every time he steps to the arc. He’s just that good. Pass to Pajimski. Back to Heel. Launches it from deep. It’s Hayes with the rebound. Hayes has got nine rebounds now. Here’s Donic. Charity stripe shot. Warriors with the rebound. Jackson Davis has got four rebounds now. Pass to Butler. Here’s Jackson Davis. He’s defended by Hayes. And here’s Healed. Down to five on the shot clock. Here’s the three. Hits the trifecta. Pajimski’s got 20. You give a shooter of his caliber that much time to seam it up. Oh yeah, you’re done. Outside Finny Smith outside. Reeves now. Here’s Dantic. Not a lot of room. Nice finish from Luca. Oh, Luca is so skilled at using his body to create good looks inside. Outside Butler and he lobbs it up. The pass, the catch, the slam. What a clean play, man. Absolutely jaw-dropping. [Applause] The Lakers lead by 10. Donic passes to Finny Smith. [Applause] Donic outside to the paint. Here’s Hayes and finished off by Hayes. That is a perfect placement of that dime. Just guided it right to him. [Applause] Well, the Warriors shooting an efficient 55% on the third quarter. Here’s Jackson Davis [Applause] and he banks in the layup. Jackson Davis has got four points in the quarter. They’re being put to the test and he’s doing everything he can to keep them in this game. And for the Lakers, they’re shooting 42% on this third quarter. [Applause] James outside. And the officials call goalending, so they’ll award the basket.
Yeah, it was just a little late. I mean, he thought he got there, but the ref saw it otherwise. Well, Grant, even though it looks like LeBron could play forever, he stated that he doesn’t have much time left.
Well, it’s unbelievable that he sustained this level of excellence for as long as he has. I would be surprised if we see this type of longevity ever again. Jonathan Kaminga, he’s checked in for the Warriors. [Applause] That free throw good from James. Warriors trail by 13. Heel passes to Butler. Outside. Kaminga. Out to Heel. Shot clock at six. 20 ft out. That’s short off the rim. That was a good look for him from mid-range, but just couldn’t make the defense pay. Pass to Aimura beyond the arc. The shot no good. Oh, what a performance by Luca Donic. He has been the story for Los Angeles between his scoring and rebounding. An excellent period. More NBA on 2K Sports right after this. [Applause] [Applause] And let’s take this opportunity to show you our State Farm assist of the game. You talk about painting a magnificent picture with that, Don. Just a great decision and a perfect delivery. A lot of times a spectacular pass is more impressive than a spectacular shot. This is one of those times. And there have been two very different performances from these teams today as we get going in quarter number four. On the court for the Lakers to start the fourth at the forward slots, it’s LeBron and Aimura. Gabe Vincent out there with connect and it’s Finny Smith in at the five. And it’s slammed in by Aimura.
And LeBron James will outsmart you. He will open up things for other teammates with the pick and roll. [Applause] Now Curry outside heel from deep. LeBron with the rebound. Los Angeles leading by 15. Pass to Vincent. Here’s Connect. Fires for three. Sends it home from three-point land. Woo. That man is laser focused. Yeah, that’s bad defense for a team that has a long way to go to catch up.
Effort like this makes you wonder if they’ve already packed it in for the game, ready to go on to the next. Got to at least show a little heart out here. And down in the corner, he’ll look so comfortable. I mean, that’s a shot he knows he can make. We’re just over a minute into this final quarter play. James against Peyton. Here’s Aimura. No good that time. Excellent D there from Kuminga. And so Curry will bring it up for the Warriors. Down by 15. Pass to Jackson Davis. Peyton with it. James with the block. And Brown with the block. Look, the shooters are working hard, but he is all over them. He may not have that traditional power forward build, but his bounce, well, that kind of levels the playing field. And it’s the Warriors with the ball outside. Curry moving along. Two minutes gone in the fourth. Payton against James. Just five to shoot. Now here’s Payton. He’s covered closely. Some solid defense from James. Los Angeles leading by 17. Aimura left side
outside. Finny Smith. Vincent passes to James. They set the pick. Fires from deep. And the rebound goes to the Warriors. Jackson Davis has got six rebounds in the game.
Curry goes in. So cunning on the attack. Curry gets defenders to foul on the drive because there’s nothing else you can do. [Applause] First one falls for him. Looney’s checked in for the Warriors. Pajimky comes in for healed. So he gets them both. Little over two and a half minutes have passed here in the fourth. This James on the wing guarded by Peyton. Peyton against James driving in and the rebound goes to the Warriors. Peyton with it on the wing. Curry spins outside. Kaminga three-pointer. And again, it’s the Warriors missing. The Lakers lead by 15. Vincent outside. James outside. Penny Smith a screen down low. Looney with some nice D. Golden State has gone one for three in the fourth quarter from range and the foul called on Brandon Kimky. That’s foul number two for him and just a great job of getting there first and absorbing the contact. Heels checked in for the Warriors and the Lakers also making a change. Hayes has checked in. The Lakers have gotten three of seven attempts in this fourth quarter to fall. coming in. Vincent outside. Aimura outside. Pass to Vincent. James against Kaminga. Fires the three. Pajimsky grabs the board. Pajimski’s got his seventh rebound here tonight. Floats one. Aimura with a rebound. Aimura’s got his fifth rebound in this one. [Applause] Here’s connect defended by Pajimski. Now here’s Vincent. [Applause] Aimura sets a screen. Vincent with a ball. Kuminga defends out of bounds. It’ll be Warriors ball. Reeves has checked in for Los Angeles. Donic comes in for Vincent. Warriors trail by 15 now. Here’s Curry. Got a hand on it and it’s out of bounds. The Warriors able to retain possession here. Good ones checked in for Los Angeles. Here’s [Applause] Curry. Just five on the clock. Oh, Stephen Curry, shot maker extraordinaire. It’s very difficult to slow him down defensively, especially when you have communication problems. Outside Reeves Donic is doubled. Aimura outside. Here’s Goodwin guarded by Heel. Goodwin no good. And so it’s Curry with it. He brings it up for the Warriors. They’ve allowed just seven points here in the fourth. He didn’t make them pay for that weak defense, but they just can’t rely on him to miss those kind of shots. [Applause] Pass to Hayes. Tipped outside. Heel and so he draws the foul headed to the line to shoot a pair. Guys like Buddy Hill, knock down shooters. They are in high demand around the league. [Applause] [Applause] The first free throw is good and the Warriors make some changes. Draymond Green, he’s checked in for Looney and Butler is subbed in for Kuminga. And the Lakers also making a switch. Finny Smith checked in for
Aimura. And so he makes both from the line. Los Angeles leading by 11. And so JJ Reic calls for the timeout. He wants to make sure everyone is alive given the situation right now. [Applause] Heat. Heat. [Applause] Heat. Heat. [Applause] Heat. Heat. [Applause] A chance here to catch up with Ally from the sideline.
I was able to listen in on what JJ Reick was going over with his team. He said to his guys, “This one is not over yet. You have worked hard for this lead and we are not about to give it up now. Stay focused and keep hustling. Back to you guys.
Appreciate the report, Ally. Hayes. The pass to Goodwin outside. Finny Smith. They set the pick. Donic outside. Six on the shot clock. And a foul called on the way up. So he’ll take two from the free throw line. That one unhealed. And this team’s offensive catalyst. Donic puts pressure on the defense every possession. [Applause] That free throw misses. [Applause] and he sinks the second. Warriors trail by 12. Outside Butler for three. That drops and it comes off an assist from Curry.
Curry’s got five assists in the game. This is what it’s been since halftime. Remarkable results from downtown. In the modern NBA, you have to hit threes to win games. And they’ve made that adjustment since the break. Here’s Goodwin. [Applause] The three ball and the three-pointer goes and the Lakers lead by 12. And that’s how you up the ante. Come right back at him.
Yeah, I love the competitive fire right there. You drain a triple on us and I’m coming for my revenge. And here’s Curry for three. Oh, Curry from way out there. Even a half court shot is a good shot for Curry. That’s how good of a shooter he is. And so it’s Donic with it. He brings it up for the Los Angeles Lakers. Their biggest lead of the game is 21. Good passes to Donic. It’s stolen by Curry. And here’s Heield. Pass to Curry. It’s rebounded by Los Angeles. Donic has got nine rebounds in the game. Boy, he’s getting it done. Oh, Luca like a bull in there. And how about the handles Luca has. Phenomenal at creating scoring opportunities for himself. And here is Green. And looks like an illegal pick was set. That gets the ref’s attention. You can get away with one once in a while, but it looked like he wasn’t completely set on that pick.
You got to blow the whistle when it’s that obvious. Great call there by the official.
Moody’s checked in for Heield. Aimura’s checked in for the Lakers. James comes in for Goodwin. Pass to Reeves. Back to Donic. Takes a three. Rebounded by Green. Green’s got six rebounds now in the game. Butler against Hayes. Butler shot is good. What’s the saying? 80% of success is just showing up. And guess what? Butler shows up every night. [Applause] Donic against Curry. The three is up. Kicks it to Donic. tries again, drained it for two points. Donic has got 36 points. Warriors trail by 11. Outside Butler, fires for three. It’s Hayes with the rebound. Well, the Lakers shooting right around 40% since the beginning of the fourth quarter. Back to Donic. Donic throws it down.
Going on the attack. Luca doesn’t give them a chance to get between him and the rim. Golden State is gone. Three of seven from the perimeter during the fourth. Pass to Curry. Back to Pajimsky [Applause] inside. Curry. That’s good. Curry’s got 12 points here in the second half. Great timing and coordination. Lays it in coming off that pick. Los Angeles leading by 11. Donic passes to Hayes. Now Reeves. Here’s Donic. No good from the wing. The Warriors shooting right around 40% since the beginning of the fourth quarter. Here’s Curry. Curry from inside. Got it in close. And unless it’s an open three, that’s the key to efficient offense. Well, the Lakers shooting a solid 53% from the floor. Here’s Donic. Offensive rebound and finished off by Hayes. crashes the glass with authority, then puts it back strong.
Next level, man. This guy’s just going out and making a play. Here’s Curry. There’s a minute 59 left in the fourth quarter. Puts up a deep three. James with the rebound.
James has got his seventh rebound here tonight. Now here’s Reeves defended by Pajki. Hayes. Foul called. Looked like the D didn’t get there in time. And he’ll shoot free throws. [Applause] shooting two. Then he drops a first. [Applause] [Applause] Good on both. 143 left in the fourth quarter. Here’s Curry outside for Butler. [Applause] bounces high off the rim and drops. Just great awareness from Curry. So good at reading the floor and finding his open teammates. And Donic has got the ball here for the Lakers. Their biggest lead of the game was 21. James passes to Reeves. Screen by James and the shot counts. He’s fouled and it’s a chance for a three-point play. Find the lanes. Find the lanes. One shot and that one falls for Reeves. Here’s Curry. 111 left in the final quarter.
Barring a miracle comeback, this one is wrapped up. They were able to control the tempo and flow of the game and it will end in a victory for the Lakers.
I think it was their play in the paint that got them the win tonight. And the defense seemed powerless to stop them down low, resulting in plenty of high percentage shots for them.
And what a huge performance it was for Luca Donuch.
We certainly got to see his best effort on offense, attacking the defense without fear and grabbing a lot of buckets. Curry, that’s good. 43 seconds left to play in the fourth. Outside Reeves. Back to Donic. James outside. Clock at six. Pass to Donic. Here’s the three. They get it back and finished off by Hayes.
They really came in with the right mindset today. I can guarantee you their flight home will be filled with some smiles.
And as it should be to be this dominant on another team’s floor. Look, when you go home, you’re going to go home feeling good.
And they’ve been moving the ball really well tonight. Good things come to those who take good shots. Green with the ball on the wing. Curry, blocked. [Applause] Greg, we’re sure to see a lot of quality basketball here tonight given the veteran talent on both sides.
Yeah, tremendously high IQ’s from both teams. So, expect a clean game and some of these players have been through it all in this league.
Here are the starters for Los Angeles. Outside the wings are Reeves and James. He’s out there with Ruy Hatimura and it’s Donic in at the point guard position. Good work there as it goes. Great work inside by Curry there. So clever and composed in the paint. LeBron outside. Back to Donic. The fader.
He gets that one.
And hitting the mid-range jumper here early gives the defense just another thing to think about. Yeah, he’s got to be a little bit more on their radar after knocking down something like that.
Now, here’s Butler. When it comes to players who like having fun, Greg, Jimmy Butler has to be way up there.
Kevin, did you see his media picture for the 23-24 season? He looked like he belonged in an emo band with that hairstyle. Jimmy is definitely one of those guys that likes to troll and have fun. and he makes the first. And Jimmy Butler put together Brent, one of the all-time playoff runs, leading the Heat to the finals in 2023.
Yeah, you don’t want to live in or dwell on the pass. But man, Miami being the eight seed that year, Kevin, and with Jimmy putting up 38 a game in that first round against the Bucks, guy earned the MVP of the Eastern Conference Finals. What a run.
And you can never really count out these Los Angeles Lakers, Greg, can you?
No, I I I really don’t think you can. They They battle out of the playin tournament. They overcome obstacles and they have tremendous willpower.
Buries the long range jumper. Well, heady plays like that are what Jimmy Butler is all about. He knows where the defense is.
And now we’ve got some time to check in from the sidelines. You got for us, DA?
Well, I talked with head coach Steve Kerr. We talked about the strategy for taking on a guy like Luca Donuch. He told me that the thing is Luca steals all the attention out there, which allows his teammates to find open looks. So, we’re not going to let him distract us on defense. So, it sounds like they’ll be focusing on defending against Luca and company, not just Luca. Kevin.
Okay, David. Thanks.
Here’s Curry after Luca Donuch’s bucket.
I’m shocked he missed that wideopen look. He has to feel embarrassed he blew that one [Applause] here in the first quarter with about two minutes gone by. No good from the wing. Well, they shouldn’t be giving that shot to anyone, but they certainly shouldn’t be giving it to him. And that’s a big break for the defense. Curry finds Green. [Music] Now here’s Butler. Fires from deep. LeBron grabs the miss [Applause] to the middle. It’s tipped. Butler with the steel outside. Curry. Back to Moody. Pass to Curry. Green with a screen on LeBron.
Six on the shot clock.
Gets the 14-footer to fall.
Fury’s jumper just so pure. He can go up from just about anywhere on the floor and knock him down.
And JJ Reic calls timeout here.
He wants to make some adjustments to the game plan clearly. Heat. Heat. [Applause] Heat. [Applause] Heat. [Applause] Heat. Heat. [Applause] Heat. Heat. [Applause] On defense, the Warriors leading by five. Donic hits in. That’s his third field goal of the game. He’s three for five. And once Donic gets inside with the ball, he’s halfway there. Then he just uses his strength to finish the job. Curry against Donic. Curry is inside, lays it up and banks it in. Curry’s got six.
Well, he is looking confident. Love how they’re using him so far.
Yeah, right now I don’t see any letup. I think he’s going to just keep putting his foot on that gas pedal tonight.
Here’s Reeves following the basket by Stephen Curry. Reeves finds James. Here’s Donic. [Applause] Back to Green. Good work defensively by Hatchima. There’s a little bit of pressure on him, but not enough to cause him to miss a shot that’s in that close. Warriors leading by five from downtown. His second shot goes in. Off to a good start. Two for two.
And they don’t want to get in a habit of giving him open looks from three. First quarter still, but not who you want to leave open.
Pass to Himi Mura. Here’s [Applause] Reeves. He’s defended by PMski. Reeves the pass to Hatchima. Lock at six. Here’s Donic in the hoop for his fourth field goal. Four for seven shooting and looking for more.
One of the more skilled offensive players that is on the floor here tonight. Not an easy fella to hold in check.
Green. The pass to Kur. Here’s Pajki outside. Butler [Applause] on the arc. It’s rebounded by Hayes. Lakers trail by six. Reeves. The pass to LeBron. Reeves outside. Hayes with the screen for Reeves. trying to find Green. He’s got it now. Only one man back on DJsky with it. He’s picked up by James and that one’s good by Butler.
That is a tough two right there from Butler. Really is calling card. Rugged play and 100% effort. Lakers have gone 50% from the field to this point. Four of eight. And JJ Rick calls timeout here.
He’s made the decision he wants to huddle up with his guys. [Applause] Heat. [Applause] Heat. Heat. [Applause] [Applause] Heat. [Applause] [Applause] Dorian Finny Smith’s checked in for the Lakers. [Applause] [Applause] Donic with it now. Green defending. Whistle blows. Basket is good. So, a chance here for a three-point play.
And how about the balance of Donic on that possession? Amazing at just absorbing the contact and still with the strength to finish.
And what’s your take, guys, in the hustle stats for the Warriors? They have started this game looking to push the tempo and it’s working for them. Great job of scoring in transition. Well, they’ve really attacked off of the turnovers, so leaking out and capitalizing on fast break stuff. [Applause] That free throw good from Donic. Eyepopping talent from Donic. We don’t see many players with his size and skill set. Now here’s Curry. Six points for him. Pass to Butler. [Applause] Back to Curry. Majky on the wing. Just five to shoot. Three-pointer. Butler. It doesn’t go either for Butler. And James will bring it up for the Lakers. It’s a five-point game. You know, it’s inevitable that a player’s physical abilities diminish over the course of a career. But the thing that stands out to me about LeBron James is that he never lost his insatiable drive to win. guys. If anything, he’s gotten stronger. Warriors leading by five. Pass to Pajki. [Applause] And the whistle blows. It’s going to be on Luca Donuch. That’s his first foul. [Applause] Now here’s Butler. Vinnie Smith defending down low and Green with the basket on the assist by Butler and the Warriors lead by seven.
Draymond Green around the rim trying to find a little bit of a window to get that ball up. The
Lakers have gotten five of 10 shots to drop in this game so far. Right at the 50% mark. Donic Warriors with the rebound. to the inside. Deflects the pass. Hayes with the steel and he gets the whistle. Two free throws coming up and it goes on Draymond Green. You got to be careful once LeBron breaks the seal of the free throw line. There’s a lot of power and a lot of muscle coming at you. Usually it ends up with free throws. [Applause] The first free throw is good.
The feel LeBron has for the game. Unreal. Whatever situation he finds himself in, he always seems to have an answer. Looking at who’s out there now for the Warriors, Trace Jackson Davis comes in for Draymond Green. And it’s Buddy Heel in for Curry. The Lakers also with a sub. Connect. He’s checked in for Austin Reeds. So, it’s the Warriors now, leading by five. And with an update from the sidelines, let’s check in with David Aldridge.
Hey, Kevin, we all know the Lakers have to pound the ball inside. LeBron James says we have attackers. That’s who we are. That’s what we do. We’re not shooting 40 to 50 threes a game. We don’t have the luxury of being that team. Working it into the paint. That’s what we’re really good at, Kevin. They play to their strengths.
Thank strengths. Got to do it. Thanks, Da. LeBron with the bucket and making it look easy. LeBron overwhelms the defense inside. [Applause] Warriors leading by five. [Applause] Butler feeling out of it. and he drops in the layup off the glass. Butler’s got eight points.
Well, he’s too good a finisher to blow that kind of chance, but that’s going to be a wakeup call to the defense. [Applause] Lakers have gone six of 12 from the field here in the first quarter. Donic kicks to Finny Smith.
Pass to connect. Back to Finny Smith. down. This one for three. The Warriors pull it in. Three-pointer heel and it’s Finny Smith with the rebound. Lakers trail by seven. LeBron outside. Donic with it. Three-pointer. Yes, it’s James picking up the assist. 14 points for him. And it doesn’t take much for Donic to get hot. And once that happens, boy, he is almost unguardable.
And we’ve got a timeout called by Steve Kerr. He’s going to have a discussion here on the sideline. [Applause] Heat. [Applause] [Applause] Heat. [Applause] [Applause] And some changes here for the Warriors. Jonathan Kaminga. He’s checked in for Moody and Gary Payton has subbed in for Brandon Pajki. [Applause] Payton surveying the floor. He finds Kaminga [Applause] and he could not get that one to go. Lot of contact and he’ll go to the line for two.
Well, He plays with such drive and intensity at all times that he just can’t help but create a foul shot with that opportunity.
It’s his first trip to the line. [Applause] Take a break. Take a break. Two shots. free throw drops for Heel.
And Heel is a player who you love to see take trips to the free throw line as consistent as he is there.
And some changes here for the Lakers. Vanderbilt’s checked in for Jackson Hayes. Austin Reeves comes in for connect and Vincent subbed in for Luca Donic. He hits one then this is the second attempt from the free throw line. Kaminga against Reeves. Pass to Vanderbilt. And here is James. Six to shoot. Here’s Vincent.
Yes. And it’s LeBron picking up the assist.
James has got three assists now in this one.
So good at reading the defenses. And James anticipating when they overcommitted. And he makes it look easy. Dunking it hard with one hand.
And guys, he’s not an easy man to stop when he’s got the rim in his sights.
Never has been, never will be. He is a determined finisher. And the Lakers have possession. Following the score by Golden State, they set the screen. The three from LeBron. The Warriors pull it in. Healed outside. Pass to Butler over Vanderbilt and it’s Butler missing. You know, the right thing there to try to fade away with the D all over him, but that is a difficult shot to sink. LeBron a screen on Butler. Back to LeBron. The shot no good. Nice defense from Kaminga. He finds Payton. 127 left here in the opening quarter. And Heel gets it to go on the assist from Payton. And the Warriors lead by seven.
Wow. He has a beautiful release on his shot right there. Just barely off of his fingertips and buttery soft. Now here’s LeBron. [Applause] And that’ll be two free throws coming up. Officials on the call with the foul. Yeah, way to play in attack mode and get to the line. He’s gone two for two at the line so far. [Applause] And the first one drops. And the Warriors making a change here. Curry’s checked in. [Applause] both free throws good from James. 105 left in the first quarter. Pass to Jackson Davis and contact on the shot. So, he’ll be shooting free throws here. I tell you what, he earned his money on that foul.
The Warriors shooting their fifth and six free throws of the game. And as a team really just middle of the pack in terms of their percentage from the line at about 76. [Applause] Take a break. Take a break. Two shots. First free throw is good. The Lakers making a switch here. Connects. Checked in. Jackson Davis hits them both. So it’s the Lakers now. They trail by seven. And Vanderbilt now top of the key. Pass to Reeds in the corner. Finny Smith with it now. Vanderbilt. Just five on the clock. Here’s Connect. That three off target. had some space there after the little pump fake on the wing. Payton. Back to Curry. 17 seconds left in the first. An easy two points on the layup. Curry’s got eight.
And that’s Curry showing some of that toughness. Not going to shy away from contact. Picked by Benny Smith. Here’s Reeds and he’s on the money with his first shot today.
You got to get up tighter than that. Some players you can give that much room to, but not him.
And so it’s the Golden State Warriors heading to the bench with a seven-point lead as we wrap up the quarter. A terrific tempo and a great pace. The fast break has been a central part of their offense. We’ll return shortly. And thanks again for tuning in. If you’re just joining us, we’ve played through one quarter of action so far. And the Warriors guys, what jumps out to you in this game uh statswise? Well, they used the fast break to generate some easy buckets before the defense could get set.
Yeah, they did a great job. Just that initial thrust of that attack as soon as they got the ball constantly in transition. So, it’s the Lakers now. Seven-point differential. So, on the floor for the Lakers to start this second quarter. Austin Reeves out there with Vincent. Then it’s connect. Then there’s Jared Vanderbilt. And it’s Finny Smith in at the five. Roaming the paint. Five on the clock. Here’s Reeves. [Applause] Bucket is good. Hey Bones, what do you think is a part of the game that some casual fans don’t really understand that well?
Well, Kevin, outside of the contest right here in front of us, let’s think about the long schedule that teams are dealing with. How many times have coaches employ different lineups and strategies so that by the end of the year they have optionality in what they can do on the floor? The Lakers haven’t yet missed a free throw. Five for five. [Applause] He’s off on the first. Gavon Looney is checked in for Golden State. [Applause] Good on the second free throw. And it’s Curry with the ball ringing it up for the Warriors.
Their biggest lead of the game was nine. Latrey, they get it again. Looney kicks to heal. Up top, Curry. Defended by Vincent. Curry through traffic. Count it. Oh,
I mean the number of points they’ve scored in the paint already here is eyeopening here in the second quarter with a little over a minute gone. [Applause] Vanderbilt setting the pick for Reeves. Pass to Vanderbilt. [Applause] It’s rebounded by Kaminga. Warriors leading by six. Outside Curry now Looney back to Curry. Five to shoot. There’s the triple. Oh, Curry so accurate from three-point range. On the offensive end, Curry both prolific and efficient. Quarter number two. We’re about two minutes in. Reeves against Heield. Reeves can’t hit. Golden State’s gone one or two on three-pointers here in the second quarter so far. Healed from outside. A rebound by the Lakers. As a junior college product, Dalton Connect. Greg didn’t have a traditional path to the NBA.
Yeah, Kevin. spent two years at a JC, two more at a small division one program, then used his extra year of eligibility to transfer to Tennessee. And there he became a first team all-American and turned himself into a first round pick. Breeze gets the bucket here in the second quarter. We’ve played a little over two and a half minutes now. And here is Curry. 13 points in the game. [Applause] Launches it. They kick out to heel. Curry deciding where to go with it. And good. And it takes a nice bounce off the right iron and down. Curry’s got 15 points.
That’s a high percentage shot from Steph Curry.
Just put that on repeat. And JJ Reick is called timeout. He’s ready to talk things through with the team. [Applause] Heat. [Applause] [Applause] Heat. Heat. [Applause] Heat. [Applause] [Applause] Draymond Green. He’s checked in for the Warriors. PJMski’s coming in for Buddy Heel. The Lakers also making some changes. Hatchim has checked in for Vanderbilt. James comes in for connect and Goodwin subbed in for Vincent. [Applause] Warriors on D. They’ve only allowed five points in the quarter. Here’s LeBron. James absorbing hits on the drive.
And you are at the mercy of LeBron James once he gets that kind of positioning. Nice finish. And a little under three and a half minutes elaps in this second quarter of play with a short break in the action. Gives us a chance now to send it over to David Aldry.
Thanks very much. Austin Reeves went undrafted, but his success comes as no surprise to him. He says, “I’ve always felt like I belong.” It goes back to childhood. His mom once asked him, “Is this confidence or cockiness?” He told her, “You’re basically kind of the same thing.” Kevin, back to you.
That’s something else. Undaunted. Hey, David. Thank you. Well, LeBron does so many things so very well, including handling the ball and getting to where he wants to go. Curry with it. 15 points in the game. Pass to Pajki. Outside. Baiton. Now Pajki.
Nine points in the game so far. Curry gets the bucket. Another good play. This is how they built the lead, calling on the right guys at the right time.
Basketball IQ is something that gets talked about, but it’s importance to a team showing up here running plays that turn into scores. Here’s James and foul on the shot. So, he’ll get a chance at the line. And LeBron used to hit. This is the level of attention this man attracts from the D. The Lakers have put up good numbers at the charity strike converting six of seven
and typically a strength of theirs 79% on the season. That free throw no good. Heels checked in for Kaminga. [Applause] [Applause] and he sinks the second. Warriors leading by nine [Applause] outside. Curry takes the three. Another three for Golden State.
Curry is just lethal from outside. LeBron outside. Reeves outside. No good with the triple. Golden State’s gone for the three-pointer seven times here in the second and been successful three times. Pass to Curry. Back to Payton. Go get it. Go get it.
Heel sets the pick for Payton. Outside Curry. Another three for Golden State. Well, Curry doing it again. One of the quickest releases we’ve ever seen. Lakers trail by 15. James looking around. [Applause] Warriors with the rebound. Here’s PMski. He’s got nine. Pass to Payton. Green with a screen for Payton. Back to Pajki. Off target with this three.
And they had some boxed coverage that turned into no coverage.
Hatimura the pass to LeBron. Here’s Fenny Smith. Some nice passing here by Los Angeles. Balls knocked loose and stolen by Payton. Vajky with it. Up top. Curry shoots. That’s in. Coming off an assist from Payton. Pton’s got three assists now in this one.
You can’t just stop when there’s a pick set up. Got to fight over it as a defender. That’s one that the coaches will watch tomorrow with that player. You hate to see him give up in that situation. Here’s Reeves. Nails the baby hook. Reeves has got seven now in this quarter.
Any possession that ends in a shot from that range after a good player and ball movement. That’s a good one. Pass to PMski. [Applause] Back to Curry. Shot clock at six. [Music] Pulls up on the wing. It doesn’t go for him. Lakers trail by 15. Here’s Reeves. Pajki grabs the board. Pajki’s got his fourth rebound in this one again. Curry missing. And here’s James. He’ll bring it up for the Lakers. Reeves the pass to Finny Smith and there it is for him. Finny Smith’s got his first basket.
Two teammates connecting right there. Slick feed. Warriors leading by 13. And so Steve Kerr calls for the timeout. Wants to talk some things over. Might be seeing some things to adjust. Heat. [Applause] [Applause] Heat. Heat. [Applause] Heat. [Applause] Heat. Heat. [Applause] [Applause] [Applause] And the Warriors with some changes. Jimmy Butler comes in for Gary Payton. And it’s Moses Moody in for Buddy Heel. Vanderbilt’s checked in for the Lakers. Anic comes in for Austin Reeves. [Applause] Pass to Pajki. And for such a young player, Brandon Pajki has a mature game. Well, Kevin, his intellect out on the floor, I think, is at an elite level. Brandon does such a good job of hovering around the basket to get rebounds. He advances the ball with the pass. He’s driving and always looking for angles. So, this is an advantage created player and Brandon does a great job of that. And he knocks down the first point. The Warriors making a switch here. Heels checked in. Second free throw. No good. Lakers trail by 14. Here’s James. And that one clearly a foul. Gets the whistle and two shots coming up. He’s had six attempts at the line, made five of them,
and it’s a super first half for him at the free throw line. And the first one at the line is good. [Applause] and he makes both free throws. Warriors leading by 12. Now Pajki, he’s got 10. Butler on the move.
It’s hauled in by Goodwin for Los Angeles. They’ve gone six of 11 from the floor. Over 50% shooting here in the second quarter. Donic finds James. LeBron has doubled. Vanderbilt the pass to Goodwin. Shot clock at five. Kachimura with a screen on Green. Good.
No way he’s going to pass that shot up. The D is way too far back and relaxed in getting out on him. Healed outside. Back to Pajki. Pass to Healed. Shoots the three. Trains it from beyond the arc. He’s got seven.
That’s a guy you want to find. Buddy Heield with the response from three.
Good one with it. Covered by Heel. Now here’s Hi Mura trying to answer back but that three is off the mark. Pass to Green. The shot by Butler. Nobody around. Good as Green picking up the assist. 11 points in the game.
Well, Jimmy Butler’s three ball is just going to extend that defense and now he’s going to make plays inside.
Aimura kicks to Vanderbilt. [Applause] outside. [Applause] Here’s Hatchima. Here’s Vanderbilt. The rebound by Heel. And here’s Heield. He’ll bring it up for Golden State. Here’s Green and he gets the basket. Officials blowing the whistle. So, a chance at the line for one more.
That’s a strong finish from Draymond Green. Those are the kind of plays where he likes to flex on. Brent, Draymond Green’s resume speaks for itself. What’s he do though that we may not see or appreciate?
Well, Kevin, Draymond Green does such a great job of being a connector and communicator defensively. It it is remarkable the way that he can impact every position on the floor by the way he uses both his position and his voice. Forget about the offense. Draymond takes on the challenge every night defensively and that makes him elite. Brent, when I think of those title teams of the Golden State Warriors, clearly you think of the Curries and Thompson and and and maybe at the top of that list, the importance of Draymond Green. Well, there’s no doubt, Kevin, that the lean on for Golden State defensively and to be as good as they were on that end of the floor falls on the shoulders and the very capable ones of Draymond Green. I mean, he took on all challengers and elevated the confidence of players like Steph and Clay. So, Draymond’s defense elite and leading to titles. Past the above. 132 left in the second quarter. Ghanic grabs the miss. Lakers trail by 15. Over to the left wing. Hatachimura. The pass to Danic. Get through. Get through
to the paint. And the rebound goes to the Warriors. Oh, you could tell right there. He just wanted to go for the jam, but the defense too good and distracting.
And that one’s good by Butler.
Now, the combo of strength and quickness from Butler, that’s going to help him on the inside. [Applause] LA’s gone two of four from three-point range so far in the second quarter. Some nice passing here by Los Angeles. LeBron outside offline with his three. Warriors leading by 17 and Butler. Here we go. Ghanic grabs the miss.
A lot of defenders choose to just back up off of him when he’s in that tight. Try to avoid the and one. And this time they’re not backing off. Excellent at dishing the rock. Luca with the nice feed. Pajki the bounce pass in the corner. Moody with it. Pass to Penski. And so it looks like the Warriors will retain possession here. [Applause] Green dishes to Payton. Pass the buck at six and it’s blocked. And so it looks like the Warriors will retain possession here. And we have to take another glance at that powerful rejection. And guys, that block could really help change the momentum of this game. [Applause] And the Warriors with possession here. The lead is 15. Puts up a deep three and he got that one up in time, but doesn’t go in. It’s been all about Stephen Curry for the Golden State Warriors. He delivered nine points from three-point range that quarter. Terrific work from distance. We’ve got more in store for you right after this. [Applause] And as we dive into the second half, we’ll find out if the next two quarters are any different from the first two. So far, it has been a runaway. Really an incredible game from Stephen Curry. We’ve definitely been challenging the defense here early on, not settling for anything outside.
Yeah, you want these kind of nights where you can start to see those openings before they happen. [Applause] Lakers trail by 15. In the back court, we’ll see Curry and Poachki. Jimmy Butler is out there with Green and it’s Moody in at the small forward. That’s Steve Curr’s five. As we get into the second half,
guys, you never know what you’ll see when you’re watching Luca Donuch. His offensive creativity is through the roof. Green with a screen on Donic. It’s three outside. The rebound by James. James has got rebound number seven for him tonight. Reeves outside. Pass to Hayes. Here’s Hatchima. Krills it from outside. Hatchima’s got himself on the board with three there.
Ruy working on that hand speed. Excellent. And it’s Curry with the ball, bringing it up for Golden State.
They led by as many as 18 points. And with a little over a minute gone, the second half is underway. [Applause] With so many years in the NBA, you would think Curry would slow down, wouldn’t you, Brent? But he remains at the very top of his game. I think the best part about what we’re seeing with Steph right now, Kevin, is his competitive will. You get to this age and you get to this stage after accomplishing all the things that Steph has done and it’s still not enough. So, let’s keep enjoying him while we can. [Applause] The first one falls.
Yeah. So easy to root for Stephen Curry because of how much fun he seems to have on the floor. Embraces the competition, but is able to laugh it off when something doesn’t go his way. A lot of things do, though. Stephen Curry hits them both. And you can tell he’s feeling confident right now at the line. And when he’s on, he can be lights out. Reeves outside. [Applause] Back to Donic. Warriors with the rebound. Curry’s got four rebounds now tonight. Butler against Hatchima. Moody. The shots good on the assist by Butler. Butler’s got five assists in the game. They brought the double team to force the ball out of his hands but failed to rotate off the pass. Pass to Donic.
Hatchima with it. Donic kicks to Hatchima. Gets it to go from beyond the ark. Hatchima’s got two now from beyond the arc in the third for Los Angeles. Curry pass it to Moody. [Applause] Back to Curry. Down to five on the shot clock. Curry gets it, keeps his balance, and finishes the play.
If you’re the D, you cannot let Curry do that to you. Using that handle to get where he wants to go on the floor.
Lakers trail by 14. Just under two and a half minutes into the third quarter now. Pass to Hayes. [Applause] Donic with it now. Reeds. Lakers passing it around. Here’s Hatchima. Set it up with the fake, but it’s offline. Warriors leading by 14. Green with a screen on Dunic. Reeves with the rebound. Lakers have gone three of six in the third quarter. 50% from the field inside. Donic with the strong move inside. Playing from behind right here. Not easy, but he is answering the bell. Yeah, doing anything he can right now to get his team to cut into this lead and give them a chance.
Oh, the officials are all over that one. These are his third and fourth free throw attempts of the game. [Applause] First one falls for And that’s good as he hits both of his shots. Lakers trail by 14. Anjic outside. on the wing Reed. He’s defended by PMski. Just over three and a half minutes through the third quarter of play now. Pass to PMski. [Applause] Back to Curry. [Music] The inside game of Stephen Curry. All night they’ve asked him to shoulder the scoring load and he is not disappointed. Hayes with the screen for Donic. He’s looking for Hayes and finds him. Count that one. Hayes has got his first points in this one.
He’s just adept at gutting the defense in these sets. Give Donic a passing lane and he’ll thread the needle.
And so Curry will bring it up for the Warriors. up and in on the layup. Curry’s got 10 points here in the second half.
Big miscommunication on defense. He recognizes it and quickly takes advantage.
Well, I know they don’t have mobile devices out there for texting, so they might as well talk to one another. LeBron outside. [Music] [Applause] A floater. Reeves outside. Six to shoot. [Applause] The Lakers need to get a shot off here. And two free throws coming up. Unable to get that one to go with all the content. Well, the compromised defense happened because of the attacking mentality of Hachimura. And a moment now to look at the scoring approach in terms of where the points are coming from here for the Warriors.
Their accuracy in this one has just been on another level. I mean, the three ball keeps falling and the defense just hasn’t been able to run them off the line.
You want to talk about ball distribution? They’ve been dominating that aspect of the game. I think there’s a bunch of bankers out there. They’re dropping dime after dime. Both shots good from the strike and the Warriors with possession here. A 12-point game. Green with a screen on Himura. Here’s Butler diving in.
Quick and athletic. Butler able to beat his opponents right to the 10. Here’s Reeves. 11 points in the game. Pass to Donic. A Donic very comfortable down low. And obviously his momentum from the last game has carried over here tonight. Yeah, and the coach pretty smart for zoning in on him and giving him opportunities to stay with that confident play. Curry finds Pompeki. Here’s Green. Curry on the wing. Guarded by Donic. Green with a screen on Donic. Four on the clock.
Here’s Curry. The Lakers with the rebound.
Donic has got four rebounds in this game. Pass to Hayes. LeBron up top. Defended by Moody from deep. Jimmy Butler with the rebound.
Butler’s got his fourth rebound in this one. Butler a screen on Reed. Curry fires from way outside. It’s hauled in by Los Angeles. And the great shooters know when they’ve got enough opening to go for the three. I didn’t think it was a bad choice on that possession. Back to Donic for three. Donic sticking it from way outside.
And it’s so hard to take away the three from Donic. He needs very little space and if you press up on him, he’ll go right around you.
And stolen by LeBron. Shoots over Curry. James, no good.
Shot didn’t fall, but that play worked well to get a good look at the basket.
Yeah, an efficient offensive possession. They found the look that they wanted, just didn’t go in.
He was all alone on that one. Butler’s got five points now in the quarter.
And that’s how you share the ball. They got what they wanted and Butler put the finishing touches on him. Lakers trail by 12. Reeves outside. And a wideopen look for James. And again, Los Angeles with the triple.
Both teams running perimeter oriented plays that are working
well. Both of them looking towards the three-point line. And I like to see that, especially when the results are made buckets. Now, here’s Curry. He has 35. Shoots from the line. Count that bucket. Curry’s got 37.
Steph Curry has amazing confidence in his shooting ability. And why not pass to Hatchima. Back to Hayes. LeBron outside. Six on the shot clock to the paint and Hayes throws it down.
This is why coaches want defenders to always have their hands ready. LeBron with the quick pass there. Warriors leading by nine now. Pajimski. He’s defended by Reed. Some nice passing by Golden State. Pass to Moody and a miss there on the triple. Los Angeles has gone four of six from three-point land since the start of the second half. And here’s Hayes down low. Oh man, putting points on the board. The defense being tough on Achimura.
And this is his second trip to the line tonight. Take a break. Take a break. Two shots. The first free throw is good and the Warriors with some changes. Jackson Davis is checked in for Green. Payton comes in for Moses Moody and it’s Buddy Heel in for Stephen Curry. [Applause] So one for two that time at the strike. Warriors leading by eight. [Applause] Heaton inside guarded by Donic. Pass to Heel [Applause] to the inside. And there’s Butler with the flush. And this is the type of scorer that Jimmy Butler can be, especially when he’s getting to his spots. Lakers trail by 10. And here is Donic. He’s got 26. And here’s LeBron outside. Here’s the three. Penski grabs the board. got his sixth rebound on the night. Here’s Butler. 20 points for him. In the paint, Butler.
That’s the guy they’re going to keep going to, as they should. The lead’s only going up if they keep feeding him. [Applause] And so Donic will bring it up for the Los Angeles Lakers down by 12. [Applause] Hatimura kicks to Donic. That three off the mark. Golden State’s gone a less than productive two of six from three-point land in the second half. Greg, you think about oversized point guards and the gold standard has always been Magic Johnson. Now you look at Luca Donic and he’s certainly big for that position. Definitely some positive similarities, right? But the big difference is one of those guys has five rings and that’s not a knock on Donic. This is a team sport, but Magic’s ability to affect winning was right there with another MJ, Michael Jordan.
Great pass from Ruie there. You can see he likes setting up his teammate Butler on the way. There’s a minute 40 left to play in the third. Takes the alley pass and dunks it down.
Oh, and the lead gets bigger on a ridiculous offensive sequence.
That dunk alone would have been spectacular. Never mind it coming at the end of an alley. And JJ Reick calls timeout here. He wants to check in with his team and regroup. [Applause] Heat. Heat. [Applause] Heat. [Applause] Heat. [Applause] [Applause] Jonathan Kaminga. He’s checked in for Golden State. The Lakers also making some changes. Dorian Finny Smith’s checked in for Jackson Hayes. Vanderbilt comes in for Ruie Himeura. And it’s connect in for LeBron. [Applause] Here’s Connect defended by Kaminga. Back to Donic and they double up. Donic. Shot clock at six from outside the arc and Butler sends a pick.
And Butler really, he’s a two-way terror. I mean, that’s the only way to say it. Sending that one back. He’s gone two for two at the line so far. And he buried a bunch of shots from the stripe in that last game. Free throw. Good Butler.
Butler gives you so much toughness and determination. This guy can really impact what the culture of your team is all about. Vincent’s checked in for Donic. And so Butler nails both of them. 104 left in the third quarter of the game. [Applause] Reeves with it. 11 points in the game. Hangs home the trifecta.
That’s pretty much not how they want to defend the three-point line. Somebody’s got to shadow him out there. Alert pass it to Heield. Good. And Butler gets the assist. He’s got 10. And the spacing right there for Buddy Heield allows him to get that shot off. You just can’t give him that kind of space or he’s going to hurt you. Pass to finish. Smith. [Applause] Here’s Reeves defended by Payton. Here’s Vincent and he lays it straight in. Five points in the game. Now, say what you will about the value of the three-pointer, but those close-in looks are always plan A. Every trip down, get to the paint, get deep, score. 29 seconds left in the third quarter, go outside. Butler, there’s the pick to the middle. Here’s Jackson Davis.
Time and time again, Butler just making the right play. Lakers trail by 13. [Applause] Now Reeds for the three. And again, Los Angeles with the triple.
That’s a high percentage look when the D doesn’t fight over the screen.
The coach over there just asking for one simple thing, and that’s some effort. Got burned on that one.
And so it’s the Golden State Warriors with a 10-point lead. Some breathing room heading into the break. They’re pounding the ball inside. And that’s where they’ve gotten their best production tonight. And we’ve got more M2K Sports coming your way after this break. [Applause] And a quick look now at the State Farm assist of the game.
And how about the big fella here showing us he’s got some point guard skill here with the tremendous setup. Now
the passing for the team becoming contagious this time involving the big And with three quarters behind us, let’s see what this fourth period holds in store for us. And on the court for the Lakers to start the fourth in it forward for him, it’s James and Hachimura. Connect out there with Gabe Vincent and it’s Finny Smith in at the center. Pass to Curry. Six to shoot. Golden State moving the ball around. Three-pointer. Payton. Hachimura grabs the miss. Lakers trail by 10 to the paint. Got a piece of it and that one goes out of bounds. Last touch by Kamingo.
A split second late but almost came up with a steal there.
Real close. And I’m sure next time you might time that a little bit better and get a hand on it. And here is Los Angeles now. Aimura kicks to James. Basket is good. He’ll get a chance for one more at the line.
Did you see LeBron just shrug off that contact there? It’s like nothing even hit him. [Applause] What’s up [Applause] And that one misses. Warriors leading by eight. Payton passes to Heel. It’s deflected and stolen by James. [Applause] 60 seconds off the clock here in the fourth. Pass to Hatchimura. That one good for two. And now that’s 11 points here for Rui Hachimura. And Hachimura is such a skilled four/3 man. Good at using his size to take advantage there. [Applause] Outside curve. Now here’s Payton. [Applause] Just four to shoot. Golden State needs to get off the shot. Healed with the bucket.
Guys, he’s been a one-man air raid coming at them time and time again. Kind of like he’s in his living room right now. He’s found a comfort zone. Once he gets that, the defense knows they’re in trouble. Hatimura against Kaminga. Hatimura with a screen on Curry. Ends in with it. Curry meets him.
That one’s in there. The Warrior lead is cut to just seven points. And the basket from Vincent.
Even though they’re still trailing, he continues to be lights out from the field. What a competitor. Outside. Curry. Crops in the layup for two. Curry’s got 39. If you came to watch a scoring battle, you’re in the right place.
Yeah. Both of these teams locked in on the offensive end. Going to be a highscoring affair tonight.
Lakers trail by nine. LeBron a screen on Curry. Vincent the pass to James and they double up James. Pass to Vincent. Picked by Finny Smith. Vincent misses and it’s Curry with the ball bringing it up for the Warriors. He outside back to Curry to the inside. He finds Jackson Davis. Here’s Curry. Pulled the shot a little, but the bounce goes his way and it’s an 11-point Warrior lead. Vincent the pass to James. James on the drive. Back to Vincent. Yes. And it’s LeBron picking up the assist. LeBron’s got six assists now in the game.
Yeah. Draw the D in. Kick it out for the open shot. That’s taking a page straight out of your textbook. Well done.
Look at the clock. A little under three and a half minutes gone here in the fourth. Now here’s Curry. He’s guarded closer. Heel kicks to Curry. Back to Heel. Launches a three. It’s hauled in by Los Angeles.
Well, the D really getting away with one there. No one on him. And that’s going to be good. Nine out of 10 times. Pass to Hatchima. Shoots. Lock at six. And the rebound goes to the Warriors. Kamingas got his fourth rebound in this one. Jackson Davis with it. [Applause] Now here’s Curry and the call on the shot that sends him to the line. Well, just how smart and patient was Steph Curry on that play? Draws the contact after the pump fake. Another thing he does so well. First free throw is good and the Warriors with some changes. Cavon Looney is checked in for Trace Jackson Davis and it’s Brandon Pajki in for Heel. A big group substitution here for the Lakers. Hazy’s checked in for Dory and Finny Smith. Good one comes in for James. Austin Reeves is checked in for Connect and Donic is subbed in for Vincent. Stephen Curry hits them both. Here’s Goodwin. [Applause] Pass to Donic. lets it go from deep and the rebound goes to the Warriors. Here’s Curry. That’s good. And it’s Payton with the assist. Curry’s got 45 points.
And that’s just cold bloodooded right there. He’s taking no prisoners.
Confidence is sensational. And it feels like no one is going to stop him tonight from scoring. Back to Donic. Reeves outside, releases and it’s Curry with the rebound. Curry’s got his fifth rebound right now in the game. Two free throws coming up and they call the shooting foul. That’s a good effort from Curry just jumping right into the key. Not minding who’s around and getting the call. [Applause] [Applause] Free throw good by Curry. Raymond Green. He’s checked in for Golden State. Jimmy Butler comes in for Payton. The Lakers also with a sub. Dorian Finny Smith’s checked in for Hatchima. He’s perfect from the line this time. Lakers trail by 14. Pass to Hayes. The shot from the low post is good. And here is Curry outside. Kuminga and it’s PMsky in the corner. Butler kicks to Kaminga. Here’s PMski. Five on the clock. They kick it out to Green. The shots good on the assist by Butler. Butler’s got his ninth assist in the game now. The smarts there shown by Draymond Green. He realized it was his turn to fire one up. Cashes in. Here’s Donic. And the rebound goes to the Warriors. Butler’s got his six rebound on the night. Green left side. Butler on the way. Covered by Hayes. And they call the foul. So a chance at the line for one more coming up.
Well, Butler’s a great competitor and he’s playing with some fire right now.
Rudy’s checked in for Jonathan Kaminga. LeBron’s checked in for the Lakers. Free throw no good for Butler. Lakers trail by 17. Reeves outside. [Applause] Pajenski grabs the board. Pajki’s got rebound number eight now on the night. Green the pass to Curry. [Applause] Light right at the free throw line. Hits some rim on the way in and the bucket’s good. Curry’s got 49 points in the game. Pass to Finny. Smith. Donic outside. Hayes with the screen for Donuch. And the Lakers with another miss.
And even without that three ball dropping for him, the defense should have done more on that last play.
Now here’s Green [Applause] and it’s blocked. Tonic way outside and again no good by the Lakers.
He missed that one but I’ve seen him drill shots from that distance in warm-ups.
Oh no. I know he can make it but that’s warm-ups. So maybe just a step too far.
Here’s Curry. It’s rebounded by Hayes. Hayes has got four rebounds in this game. Here’s Donic and it’s good. Two points. 31 points for Luca Donic. Here’s Curry. Pass to Pajki and here is Green. Now here’s Moody. James defending now. But three-pointer is rebounded by Donic. [Applause] And here is LeBron defended by Moody. Here’s Hayes. The Warriors pull it in. Curry’s got six rebounds in the game. Over in the corner, Green. And a great assist by Curry as that one goes in and the Warriors lead by 20. Tough to contest that one. Draymond went right up into a one piece shooting motion. Los Angeles has gone into a funk from downtown in the fourth. Only one of their five three-pointers has found the bottom of the bucket. Anj passes to Reeves and he can’t answer back. The three-pointer offline. Warriors leading by 20. Pass to Moody. No good from outside. [Applause] The Lakers shooting in the fourth quarter has looked shabby. 38%. Donic against Green. Vinnie Smith with it. LeBron outside. Jacks up a three. Out of bounds. Golden State takes possession. Hatchim is checked in for the Lakers. The Warriors have gone eight of 14 from the floor here in the fourth quarter. Donic against Curry. Green with a screen on Donic. Curry fires from way outside. And again, it’s the Warriors missing. Fires for three. And it’s Donic missing.
It’s been a struggle all night long from deep, but doesn’t seem like he’s lost his confidence. He’s still letting him rip. Pass to Pajki now. Curry. Six on the shot clock. Some nice passing by Golden State. Butler played in with a nice touch off the glass. That’s 28 points for Jimmy Butler.
That’s the kind of passing you want there. work the ball around, keep it moving, try to get an assist on every bucket.
And there’s a minute 45 left to play here in the fourth. Donich with it. Hayes with it, guarded by Kerr. And Hayes throws it down.
And one team is just completely outclassing the other tonight. spirited performance and it really ignited what is turning out to be a monster win here for the Warriors. This was a team performing to its fullest capability.
Uh a hugely satisfying win, a game that not many will soon forget and on the other side, one that I think most will try to forget. And you know, looking back at all the contributions tonight, it was a really phenomenal all-around game for Stephen Curry.
Just does a great job of looking for space and then finding it. That’s taking advantage of what the defense is giving you. Reeves the pass to Hayes. Banked in off the glass. Hayes has got 10 points in just the second half. That’s nice vision there. You see that pass, you make the feed before the defense has a chance to react. And that opens up a a much better opportunity to score. Back to Curry. Puts up a three. Yet another bucket.
And he’s up to 52 points.
Yeah. Making a GA look all too easy right now. [Applause] 51 seconds left to play in the final quarter. Pass to Hayes. Reeves outside down low. It’s stolen by Green. Curry dishes to Green. Now Moody James covering and the foul on Ruie Himura. That’ll be his second foul of the game. [Applause] No one near Payton as he lets it go. Sinks the triple.
Finishing strong. This is how you want to close things out. Yeah, definitely putting a stamp on this one. A very, very decisive victory for the club tonight. Milton against Curry. Now Vanderbilt bass to connect and right away they match it with a three-pointer of their own. And I like the back and forth here showing confidence from range.
It seems like they’re going to find out who can make Well, Grant, what should we expect in a veteran heavy matchup like this? You know, BA, it typically means we’ll get a clean game. These guys have been around for a while and know how to take care of the basketball. And now the Los Angeles starters. Reeves at the two with LeBron at the three. Hayes is out there with Ruachimura. And it’s Donic and at point guard. Now here’s Curry. Green with a screen on Donic. And a deep three from Curry. An absolute bomb from three-point range. This is exactly the kind of unique range that Curry has. I mean, as soon as he crosses half court, you got to get up on him.
Back to Donic. James. A screen on Curry. Here’s Donic. It’s rebounded by Golden State. Moody with it. Picked up by James. Here’s Butler from down in the low post. It goes. Excellent job getting that strong position inside. Butler doing work. Really nice. [Applause] And so it’s Donic with it. He brings it up for Los Angeles.
It’s a five-point game. Hayes finds James. Gets the three to fall. He’s consistent from out there, especially when you give him that kind of room. Outside Butler. Outside. Moody. Jacks up a three. Achimurro with a rebound.
You know, defensively, you just can’t afford to give him that much room. They’re fortunate that he missed that one. Outside Reeves. First quarter of play with about a minute and a half gone by. Here’s Donic. Shot clock at six. And it’s AI Mura missing.
Golden State has gone one of two from three-point land so far. Butler, it’s not going to go for him. The Lakers have gone one for three so far. Pass to Hayes. And here’s Donic. Now Aimura. He’s covered by Curry. That one’s good from Aimura on the assist from Donic. And that ties it up. Capable of running the offense. Donic fantastic at getting his teammates involved. The Warriors have gone just two for four from the floor. Time now to hear from our reporter Ally Leforce.
Head coach Steve Kerr and I got a chance to talk for a bit. He spoke about LeBron James’ ability to completely control the game. They want to set the pace for themselves and make LeBron and his guys play catch-up. Coach said, “We have to play our brand of basketball and not worried about who’s on the other side. Play our game, set the pace, and we should be all right.” Back to you, VA.
Great work, Ally. Thanks, [Applause] That free throw no good.
There’s always a spot for a guy like Draymond Green on your side. An incredible defender. He’s unselfish offensively and a highly skilled passer. Had no luck that time either. Grant, how about that in season tournament win for the Lakers in 2024? Yeah, honestly, it just makes sense that the first of those trophies would land with a historic franchise like the Lakers. Now, here’s Curry. Green with a screen on Donic. Curry from deep three-point land. And the Warriors miss again. James inside. Moody defends. James. That’s good. for all his strength and power. James can also be extremely graceful throwing off the defender with a really nice move there.
And Steve calls timeout here. And we might see some changes. Coach potentially looking to adjust. [Applause] [Applause] [Applause] [Applause] Here’s [Applause] Butler [Applause] outside. Ed Moody back to Butler to win the cold spell. So it’ll be two free throws. He was fouled in the act of shooting. And Butler just excellent at finding ways to get to the stripe, especially when he’s near the basket.
First trip to the free throw line for him in this one. And something I remember from their last outing, he was excellent at the charity strike.
Yeah, I agree with you. I mean, he attacked, got to the line a bunch, and cashed in on his chances. Yeah, guys. I mean, he’s been a very steady hand for them when it comes to his free throw shooting. And he makes both free throws. What I love about Jimmy Butler, there’s a lot to like, but he brings it every night. His consistency and toughness and production, plays with passion, leads his team well. Love that throwback mentality of his. Now, here is James. He’s got five. Butler taking his time here. Left side. Pajki [Applause] outside. Moody three-pointer offensive rebound and that’s out of bounds. Golden State will retain possession. Just over three and a half minutes gone here in the first. And the shots good off a pass Steph Curry. That one is always going in or almost always going in. Hayes with a screen on Curry. Here’s Donic. Nice follow through on the fadeaway. And you got to defend better than that. I mean, that’s a good look for him. And you do not want to let him get going early because that can get you cooked.
Now here’s Curry. Five points in the game. Knocks down the long K. It looks easy, effortless. Curry natural from long range. Pass to Hayes. [Applause] James outside. [Applause] Five on the clock. Green with a defensive effort. Boy, that defense smothered him in there. Love the intensity.
Clark, what’s incredible about LeBron? He makes as big of an impact off the court as he does on it. BA I think is going to be one of the great case studies when he’s all done playing how he’s impacted the game and uplifted people across the country and world. He’s a tremendous advocate for social justice. He’s obviously a shrewd and successful businessman and he’s been a vocal leader who also leads by example. He’s actually epitomizing the change he’d like to see in other folks and inspiring along the way.
And it’s Donic missing. That’s a decent look for him. He just couldn’t convert. Butler with the ball picked up by Reeves. Two points. That one goes. Butler’s got six. The well put together Butler proving that he’s just a little too strong there. Not allowing the physical defense to stifle him at all.
And we’ve got a timeout called by JJ Reic. He’s going to talk it over with his guys. Heat. Heat. [Applause] [Applause] Good morning. [Applause] [Applause] Finny Smith checked in for the Lakers. [Applause] Here’s Reeves. No points so far. Pass to Hayes. James outside. [Applause] drains it. Now he’s three for five. Fighting through contact. Not easy trying to corral LeBron when he’s focused on scoring. Good luck with that. Here’s Pimski [Applause] outside. Curry left side. Butler that shot. No good. Good D by Finny Smith. Lakers trail by three to the middle. Hey, shots good. Just owning the painted area. If it’s working, no need to change. Golden State has gone just two for six from the arc here in the first. Curry no good. It
does not get much easier than that. But somehow he came up empty there.
James with the ball. Green picks him up and James gets it to go. His overall size and strength really sets James apart from the rest of his peers when you think about his skill set inside. Now Curry give him eight outsideky pass to Moody and here’s Butler outside. He drops it from range. Butler’s got nine points. Unleashes the bounce pass. An accurate assist outside. Finny Smith. James with the ball over Moody. The shot by James. No good. Now here’s Curry. Fires from deep. That’s his fourth miss in seven shots. Reeves the pass to Finny Smith to the inside. Six to shoot. Oh, and there’s the whistle on the shot. So, two free throws for him coming up. Well, last season we saw Luca Donic score 73 points. Tied for fourth most in NBA history. Clark, he is so special. And the thing about the 73 he got, it was the most efficient 70point game in league history. And with how offense heavy the league is going, I wouldn’t put it past him to go north of Kobe Bryant’s mark of 81 at some point. He’s got that kind of ability.
And he makes a first. Clark, when you watch Luca Donic play, how is he able to just control the games like he does?
He’s a savant. That’s all I can say. He’s way ahead of himself. I mean, this guy’s been a pro since he was 13 or 14 years old. There’s nobody else in the NBA that’s been a pro that long, I don’t think. So, unique in that regard. Great size, uncanny, underrated script. And then his vision, his pace, all of that what allows him to really not ever be sped up or out of control.
Now, here’s Pajki. Still no points and it’s Green missing. James deciding where to go with it. Played it in with a nice touch off the window and the Lakers lead by two.
He’s somebody that’s really comfortable carrying the offensive load. Here’s Butler. Nine points in the game. Pass to Moody. James with a steal. It’s rebounded by Golden State. And here is Green. He’s defended by Hayes. And it’s Green missing. The Lakers have gotten eight of 16 attempts to fall. James, count it. James has got 13. Yet another stellar night for LeBron offensively so far. In some ways, he’s just unstoppable. And here’s Pajki. And Steve Cerr calls timeout. A moment to rest and confer on the game plan. Protecting the rim has to be their top objective right now.
Yeah, you know, just look at the numbers, guys. I mean, they are being taken to the woodshed in the paint. [Applause] Heat. Heat. [Applause] And some changes here for the Warriors. Jackson Davis has checked in for Draymond Green. Kaminga comes in for Moody. And Payton is subbed in for Pajimsky. [Applause] Set it up. [Applause] Here’s Kaminga. Pass to heal. Jackson Davis’s screen. Healed with the ball. picked up by James and the basket by Heel. And a little contact never stopped Heield, a committed scorer who knows how to keep his balance on his shot. The Lakers in the lead. Donic outside. [Applause] Count it. Two for four from the field now.
Luca combination of finesse and bully ball in there that time. The Warriors shooting the rock around 41% during the first quarter. Outside Kaminga down low. Here’s Butler. He connects and now he’s four for six in today’s game. Want to score in the NBA? Picks can really force the D to make tough choices. James outside. Pass to Hayes. He shoots a three that falls. Nice feed that time from James. Hayes has got five now. Healed against Donic and he loves it up top and it’s stolen by Finny Smith. All right, let’s check in with Alli Leforce.
Well, coach Steve Kerr said of Jonathan Kaminga, “We were trying really for a long time to get him to attack. Get the ball in the paint and dunk it because he’s unstoppable there. You just don’t know when something’s going to click, but it has clicked and it’s beautiful to see.
He has certainly found his lane. Ally, thank you.
Butler really sees the floor and finds his opportunities to move that ball around. A true team player. [Applause] And Donic has got the ball here for the Los Angeles Lakers, leading by five. [Applause] And there’s 138 left in the first quarter. Fires it. It’s rebounded by Golden State. Butler with the ball. 11 points in the game. [Applause] Left side. Kuminga outside heel. Clock at six. Fires the three. It’s Hayes with the rebound. Hayes has got six rebounds in the game. And here’s Donic outside. Oh my. Came close to a four-point play. He’ll head to the line for three free throws. You know what separates Donic from most players? He’s really calm under pressure. Great poise. You can’t speed him up. He plays at his own pace. [Applause] And he’s good on the first of three. Luca Donis is a do-it-all player. I mean, he does everything for this team, including being a walking triple double threat on a game by-game basis.
Curry, he’s checked in for Jimmy Butler. Vanderbilt’s checked in for the Lakers. Reeves comes in for LeBron. That one misses. [Applause] [Applause] and he nails the third. Warriors trail by seven. Inside, here’s Kuminga and Kuminga throws it down. such confidence as a passer. He hits guys in stride and makes it look easy. 58 seconds left in the opening quarter. [Applause] Donic against Curry outside. Reeves. Let’s go with a three. That one falls. Great setup by Donic. Lucas peripheral vision off the chart. Get wide open and he’s going to find you. Pass to Jackson Davis.
Right here. Back to Curry now shooting 50% for the game. He’s four for eight.
They’re punishing those late defensive rotations. Getting good looks inside throughout the half. The Lakers lead by six. Reeves the pass to Donic. [Music] [Applause] Here’s Connect. Launches it.
The shot comes out. outside. Payton back to Heel. Shot on the wing. The kick out. Curry. Three-pointer. Drills it from deep. Curry’s got 13 now. Five ticks left in the first quarter of the game. And Donic puts up a deep three. Oh, it would have counted had it fallen, but it is offline. And so it’s LeBron James making things happen for Los Angeles. He was dominant this quarter, scoring in bunches. And more NBA action on 2K Sports coming your way right after this. And close game underway so far. We’ll see if either of these teams can jump out ahead in this second quarter. What do you guys think about Los Angeles here in this one?
You can really see the strategy coming in. Get the ball into the painted area. Yeah, and it’s worked. They’ve got a clear edge and points in the paint. Now, we’ll see if they go with a more balanced attack or just keep on pounding it inside.
Looking at lineups around the league, Grant, seems like they’re becoming more positionless than ever before.
Yeah, you’re spot on, BA. to the point where some people feel allstar voting shouldn’t be by position anymore. It should be by merit. So on the floor for the Lakers to kick off the second quarter. They’ve got connect Jared Vanderbilt out there with Dorian Finny Smith. Then it’s Austin Reeves and it’s Vincent in at the point. And here are the Warriors now following the score by Los Angeles. Pass to Payton. Lets a three fly on target from range. Payton’s got his first three points of the game. You know, Steph Curry is not always looking for his next shot. He’s got a selflessness about him that’s um inspiring.
Now here’s Reed and there’s the basket and the whistle blows. Chance at a three-point play here going to the line for one. He’s getting his first free throw attempt of the game here. Guys, I think free throw shooting is all about rhythm and confidence and he hasn’t been able to establish any rhythm there this season. And the Lakers making a change here. Goodwin’s checked in. [Applause] Warriors trail by five. Pass to Jackson Davis now. Payton outside. Curry beyond the ark. And the Warriors with another three. Yeah, he’s in his bag from beyond the ark right now. You see his confidence? Yeah, I’d be confident, too. As a matter of fact, I mean, if you’re stacking up threes the way he is, I mean, he’s doing all this work from behind the arc. Just over a minute has passed here in the second quarter. Healed against Reeves. [Applause] Now here’s Vincent to the paint and the whistle blows. It’s going to be on Jonathan Kaminga. That’s his first foul. Tough break for the defense. I mean, he took the hit, but he didn’t get the call.
Yeah, but he was late to get there, so the referee couldn’t give him a free pass on that one.
Aim checked in for the Lakers. Here’s Fenny Smith. He’s scoreless. [Applause] Outside Reeves. Penny Smith, a screen. Shot clock at five. And it’s Austin Reeves with the three.
Got to fight harder to get over those screens. Well, I’m going to credit the screen. I mean, that’s a good strong pick. He lays there.
Now, here’s Curry.
16 points for him. Here’s Kuminga. Kuminga strong like bull. Now, what’s the saying? Don’t box out. You get your feelings hurt. Reeves. The pass to Vincent. It’s Reeves with the drive. Doesn’t go for him. Excellent D there from Kuminga. Pass to Peyton. Here’s Jackson Davis. Shoots from 12. Nice shot by Kaminga. Kaminga’s got four points in the quarter. Los Angeles has gone four of eight from three. A nice percentage. Aimura. The pass to Penny Smith. [Applause] Pass to Reeves. [Applause] misses the layup. The Warriors trailing outside Curry. [Applause] And now about three minutes gone in the second quarter here. Kaminga finds Peyton. Second chance shot.
Rebound. The Lakers. Aimura outside pass to Reeves. [Applause] from deep three-point land.
No good. Three for seven shooting so far. It’s never easy from that distance, but we see him drill those and shoot around all the time.
Well, that looked to me, guys, like a heat check and was maybe a step out of his range. Los Angeles has gone one of two from deep in the second quarter. Clark Aimura has always been a monster with his strength. He knows how to use his range. He sure does and he has an ample frame ba and working out with LeBron during the summer and training certainly hasn’t hurt him in that regard. He knows how to use his body, but he’s also become a pretty reliable three-point shooter and allound scorer. To the middle, here’s Kuminga. He shoots again. Oh, Kaminga just a menace inside. Well, plenty of give and take so far.
Yeah, six lead changes already. Both teams came to play. Pass to Reeves. [Applause] Aimura outside and the foul called on Buddy Heel. That’ll be a second foul of the game. And there’s just one foul now away from the penalty. Yep. The next one puts him on the line. So, they’ve got to be careful the rest of the way.
Draymond Green, he’s checked in for the Warriors. Pajimky comes in for healed. LeBron, he’s checked in for Los Angeles. James, a screen on Curry to get back on track, the put back. Great positioning on the put back and the Lakers lead by one. And LeBron sets the tone for this team. This includes setting an example with his hard work on the offensive board. And Steve Kerr calls timeout here. He’ll take the opportunity to regroup. [Applause] [Applause] Heat. Heat. [Applause] [Applause] And the Warriors making a switch here. Heels checked in. [Applause] The Lakers on D. Curry passes to Peyton inside. Here’s Heel. Nice assist and nice finish. Solid play all the way around and the Warriors lead by one. The Lakers have gotten four of their first nine shots to go here in the second. Pass to James. There’s the three. It’s rebounded by Golden State. Peyton with it. Guarded now by Finny Smith. Oh, Green flexing on him with the strong finish
inside. Green can be very aggressive and physical, allowing him to do work scoring the ball. Lakers trail by three. Outside Reeves on the wing. Aimura. [Applause] rebounded by Green. And so it’s Green who brings up the ball for the Warriors on the wing. Curry [Applause] and he got the whistle on the way up. So he’ll be headed to the line for a pair. That’s on Gabe Vincent. You got to be careful how you guard Curry because he’s so skilled with the ball and as a shooter, he’s able to figure out ways to draw fouls. Shoot two. [Applause] And the first one at the line is good. When you talk about shot mechanics, Curry is as close as you can get to perfect. I mean, you can tell he puts a lot of work into that part of his game and it pays off.
Butler’s checked in for the Warriors. Moody comes in for healed. And the Lakers also making a change. Luca Donuch has checked in for Vincent. He’s perfect from the line this time. It’s not luck that he’s so steady at the line. It’s through repetition and hard work.
Reeves the pass to Donic. Reeves with a screen on Curry from deep. Here’s Donic. Donic. Count it.
Donic showing you his smarts there because he really sized up the situation and took advantage of what the defense gave him. [Applause] To the inside. Here’s Pajki and it’s off the back of the rim. No good. Los Angeles has gone two of five from distance here in the second quarter. Here’s Aimura and it’s good. Fought through contact. hit the shot and will go to the line. Los Angeles shooting their seventh free throw attempt here. Vanderbilts checked in for the Lakers. Good one comes in for Reeves. Free throw good. Aimura. The Warriors have gotten seven of 13 attempts to go here in the second. Outside Butler [Applause] back to Curry up and over Dantic off the left rim and out. More often than not, he’ll cash it in from that area. The defense might have done just enough to bother him to the paint. Hachimura finds James. No good on the triple. Boy, they dodged one there, guys. I mean, he got the wideopen look that he wanted, just didn’t knock it down. Off with the layup.
The Lakers have gone six of 14 in the second quarter. Here’s Goodwin [Applause] and a miss layup. Golden State has gotten six of 13 shots to go from outside the ark. Butler against Hachimura. And here’s Curry for three. Good. And Butler gets the assist. Curry’s got 21.
Huge night for Curry in a great rhythm thus far. That’s always bad news for the team he’s facing. The Lakers trail. Donic outside. James outside. And once again off the mark by Los Angeles. The Warriors have gotten half their shots to fall in the second. Eight for 16. outside. Butler shoots. He squares up and sinks it. And it’s a four-point Warrior lead.
Yeah. You know what? This is exactly what Curry gives you. He can handle it, score it, pass it. He gives you an expanded menu.
Now, here’s Dantic. He’s got 11. And he’s coming off a huge performance. And his confidence couldn’t be any higher. And his coach knows that, too. showing no signs of slowing or cooling down. They’re going to ride him as far as he can take him.
Here’s Green. Butler passes to Curry. Back to Butler. Shot clock at six. Double team on Butler. Here’s Green. Good work defensively by James. Los Angeles shooting a decent 41% in the second quarter. Back to Aimura. Pajinsky grabs the board.
You got to move past that one. I mean, they’d want him to take that again.
Well, you know, I hear you. That’s a good look, but when you’re that wide open, I think you got to knock it down.
Now, here’s Curry. He’s got 21. Shoots a fadeaway. And it’s Green missing. Green against Aimura. James outside. [Applause] Pass to Butler. Now Pajimski. No points yet. [Applause] Outside. Curry. The three. Fourth three. Stephen Curry. Pick works well there, but the defense left a lot to be desired. Yeah, that’s not the defense you need. You got to be tougher defensively. Aimura outside. Pass to James and they waste no time getting those three points back. James has got 20 points.
That’s a big turnaround right there. LeBron answering right back with the three. He knows momentum is in the balance and he wants it to swing his way.
The Warriors leading Clark. It’s special getting to call LeBron James games. How is the Kings still doing this at this age? BA. I think there are guys that come along every 30, 40 years that are just different than other guys, other players. He’s in that category, one of the all-time greats, and he’s just been remarkable. Certainly DNA has a role in his longevity and excellence, but you got to give him a ton of credit. He’s committed to being at a high level for a long time, and it’s remarkable to watch him do what he’s doing at this age.
Heels checked in for the Warriors. Hayes has checked in for the Lakers. Reeves comes in for Goodwin. One shot. And that one misses. Lakers trail by four. James passes to Donic. Achimura outside. Pass to Reeves. Back to Aimura. James outside. Off target from outside. The Warriors lead by four. Moody passes to Curry. Pure from three-point range. He’s got 27. Scoring the ball. He has been lethal and efficient. Wow. And for Los Angeles, they’re shooting about 48% from the floor. Pretty good. Hayes finds Reeves. Donic. A screen on Heel. Reeves with a ball and it’s heel picking him up. Here’s Donic. Here’s Hayes. And a good offensive board and he gets the bucket. Hayes has got seven points in the game.
You’ve got to be aware of him at all times. He’s a bully on the backboard.
Back to Curry. Butler. A screen on Donic. The three is up. Emphatic finish from Butler.
Curry’s got such a great feel and understanding of the game. I mean, he can make a lot happen in the pick and roll.
We’ve got 33 seconds left in the first half of basketball. Down low. [Applause] Reeves against Heel [Applause] outside. Reeves. [Applause] Five to shoot. [Applause] Puts up a three. Reigns the triple. Reeves has got eight points in the quarter. And here’s Curry. Puts up a deep three. No good. Misses at the buzzer. Stephen Curry getting it done for the Warriors. Seven three-pointers so far. He is completely dialed in from range. Back to the game after this break. [Applause] [Applause] [Applause] And we’ve got second Half action for you thus far. A pretty evenly contested game. Stephen Curry having a dominant impact in this game.
Well, if he’s hit threes like he did in the first half, he’s going to have a monster night. Yeah, you know what? The defense is going to adjust. They’ll be ready for him now. So, I’m sure they talked a lot about how to slow him down. And the Lakers have possession. Curry and Pods make up the back court. Jimmy Butler out there with Moody. And it’s Green in at the five spot. That’s the Warriors five. That one’s good for two. Reeves has got 13 in a tight game. They wanted to make sure of that possession. Outside Butler. [Applause] Back to Curry. There’s the triple. And a great assist by Butler as that one goes.
Butler’s got three assists in the game.
Smooth passing that time. Butler doing his best to keep everybody involved and in sync.
Now here is James. Back to Reeves. This one for three. And he’s now six for 11 after that one. This is just fun. These teams are trading threes back and forth.
Nothing like answering back. One team gets three, you fire three of your own. Boom. Pajimky with it. He’s covered by Reeves to the inside. Here’s Curry outside for Butler. Six on the shot clock. The three. It’s hauled in by Luca Donuch. Donic has got four rebounds in the game. James passes to Reeves. Screen by James. Reeves with the ball now guarded by Moody outside. Reeves
for the lead. Warriors with the rebound.
Yeah, and the defense has really got to tighten up on him. I mean, he’s just too dangerous from the three-point line. Oh, and he got fouled on his way up. He’ll head to the line to shoot two.
Well, Butler combines strength and aggressiveness with u a really good basketball IQ. He sees the defender is a little out of position and takes advantage of it. First free throw is good. Butler hits them both. James with the ball. Give him 20. Pass to Hayes inside. Here’s Reeves. Oh, he gets it to go. Seven of 13 now. [Applause] Two minutes into the second half of play now. Hachimura against Butler. Outside Green. Butler a screen on Hayes. Here’s Green and the officials whistle a foul on the shot. The bucket is good and he’ll go to the line.
These kinds of buckets are what get Green hyped up. He takes a lot of pride and pleasure in cooking the defense.
This will be his third free throw of the game,
guys. He’s slightly fallen off his pace from a year ago at the line, and those points from the stripe have been a little harder to come by. on the miss. Lakers trail by five. Donic passes to Reeds. And here’s Hayes. And there’s James from the ark. Rebounded by Green. Greens got his eighth rebound here tonight. Butler with the ball. Hayes picks him up. And Reeves has got the ball here for Los Angeles. And he’s going to the line for two. The officials saw contact while he was going up. From undrafted to closing games with LeBron and AD, Austin Reeves. What a story, Clark.
It really is a great story. I mean, this guy has just continued to prove the doubters wrong. Nobody’s going to out compete him. He’s fearless. He’s got great skill. Doesn’t lack for confidence either. He’s one of my favorite players to watch.
That free throw good from James.
Look, the physicality has always stood out with LeBron. It’s been obvious, but his basketball IQ is what makes him such a special special player. I mean, he sees the game like very few ever have. That’s also good. So he hits both free throws. The Warriors lead by three [Applause] outside. Moody. Pass to Pajimski. Now here’s Curry from deep three-point land. And again, it’s the Warriors missing. Achimura against Curry. Aimura. The pass to Donic. Tries the spin move. Nice finish from Luca. Nice work from Donic. Doing a good job finding a way to get it done inside. Third quarter of basketball here. A little under three and 1/2 minutes gone by. Pass to Moody. Back to Curry. Good on the bucket. Curry’s got 32 points in the game. He’s just so hard to check. He can turn you one way then use the spin move to make you look sad. [Applause] Donic passes to James from the baseline and the rebound goes to the Warriors. Pajimski’s got four rebounds in the game.
Here’s Butler outside. Pajki takes the three. Good. And Butler gets the assist. Butler’s got his fourth assist in this one.
Not sure what the defense was thinking. I mean, you can’t leave this guy open from deep. Now, here’s Reeds. He’s got 18. James finds Donic. Luca proving he can score from anywhere. Boy, you’ve got to appreciate the passing there. Results and a great look. The Warriors lead by four. Now here’s Pajki outside. Green. Another three for Golden State.
You’ve got to respect Green at the arc. If he gets open out there, he can make you pay. Aimura outside. And here’s Donic outside. The rebound by Moody. The Warriors have gone five for nine from the floor in the third quarter. James with the rebound. Lakers trail by seven. Pass to Reeves. Back to James. [Applause] Donic outside. Counted from distance. Donic has got seven now in this quarter. The guard attributes on display there. Luca with one of the quicker releases you’ll see in the game. Golden State has gone three of five from downtown here in the second half. Outside Butler. Here’s Curry. It’s Hayes with the rebound. Hayes has got rebound number eight now. Donic outside. Oh, look at Luca taking the contact and finishing strong. I know Dantic takes pride in being able to produce for his team and he’s doing it at a high level here. Here’s Curry. Pass to Green. [Applause] Back to Curry from behind the ark. Can’t hit that one for Los Angeles. They’ve gotten seven of their first 11 attempts to go in this half. That ties the game. Reeves has got 20 points.
High percentage play. He’s excellent around the rim. [Applause] Fantastic ball movement for them tonight. And things are definitely working offensively. A balanced attack is just so much harder to defend.
Now here’s Butler. He’s got 19. And that one’s good. Green. The closer the better for Draymond, but once he’s in his comfort zone, he’s good to go.
James passes to Hayes. [Applause] Donic outside. Catch the three ball to go. Donic has got 12 points here in the second half. These teams just keep trading the lead. Yeah, you wonder what it’s going to take for someone to pull away.
And here’s Curry for three.
It’s rebounded by Los Angeles. Here’s James. 22 points for him.
And it’s Aachi Mura missing. Green finds Butler. It’s Hayes with the rebound. Now Los Angeles with it. A big stretch here going 10 to two and it’s slammed in by AI Muran. And once he gets to the rim, it’s fairly automatic. Nothing fancy right there. Just takes his two points, moves on. Hey guys, I know I’m stating the obvious here, but those could be an important two points considering how close this game is. Here’s Curry following the score by Los Angeles. Wow. Curry takes the hit and finishes inside. Love the intensity from Curry finding a way to work through the contact. Here’s Reeves. [Applause] Pass to Aimura. Now Donic. [Applause] Now Hayes. He’s got seven. Reeves with the ball. Lets it go from deep. Rebounded by Butler. Butler’s got rebound number seven tonight. Outside Curry. [Applause] Back to Butler. Good D by Dantic. This has not been his best quarter.
You know, guys, it seems to me as though he’s over anxious. He seems to be pressing, trying too hard, moving too fast. just needs to calm himself down and wait for good shots. Now here is James. The shot won’t fall. And here’s Pajki. Pass to Curry. Butler on the wing. [Applause] And he got the whistle on the way up. So he’ll be headed to the line for a pair. Austin Reeves picks one up. Hey, if you can’t block it, sending him to the line can be the next best thing.
Yeah, exactly. Prevent the layup, give them a little bump, and then maybe they’ll think twice about coming into the lane next time. And if they don’t think about it, at least they might be distracted by your presence. And it’s tied up with that one. And a new group getting ready for the Warriors. Jackson Davis has checked in for Draymond Green. Jonathan Kaminga comes in for Moody. Peyton’s checked in for Pachimsky. And he is subbed in for Curry. [Applause] And that one falls. That puts him up one point in the game. Now Los Angeles has gone three of seven from deep so far in the third quarter. Donic outside. Payton against Reeves. Just five to shoot. Outside Vanderbilt and here’s connect outside. Warriors with the rebound. And that’s a strong close out defensively. Great effort to deter the shot. Yep, that one goes. Butler’s got 23. And you know when Butler’s hot, keep getting him the rock. It’s that simple. It’s not complicated. Lakers trail by three. [Applause] Donic outside from downtown. Sinks it from distance here in the third. He’s really started to heat up from the perimeter.
And for the Warriors, they’re shooting at a 44% clip in the third. Back to Heel driving inside. Oh, and there’s the whistle on the shot. So, two free throws for him coming up.
You know, to be a high volume shooter like Buddy Heield, you have to have a lot of self-confidence, Clark.
Well, not just self-confidence, BA, you better have the ability to knock down shots. And Buddy Heield has that in spades. He can get it done from any direction he needs to. Going right, going left off the catch. He can dribble into the three on occasion. That shot he’s got is pure. First free throw is good. Everybody knows about how Buddy Heield is an incredible three-point threat. But what I love, here’s a guy with a bunch of years playing 80 or more games. Love that durability. He’s ready to go whenever they call his name. And so he’s able to get one of two.
Even with the miss, he got the big one there to put him in front. pass to Finny Smith. Peyton against Donic. Donic is doubled. The Lakers got to get one up. Late clock and book it for Vanderbilt. And it’s amazing neither team has been able to hold the lead for any length of time.
Yeah, these guys are leaving it all on the floor tonight. We’ve got 128 left in the third quarter. Jackson Davis with it. He’s marked by Finny Smith. [Applause] Healed against Donic. Now here’s Butler. He’s closely guarded and the layup is good. Butler’s got 25 points. And for them to get out in front, it feels like they’re going to need him to lead the way. Here’s Donic. 28 points for him. 58 seconds left in the third. Payton against Reeves from deep. They get it back. Launches a three. Doesn’t go that time. Surprising to see him miss here, but they’ll be happy with that shot in most possessions. Size, explosion. He’s a dangerous finisher and we saw it right there. There’s 38 seconds left in the third quarter. Donic feeling it out a bit and there’s a pick has to connect now. Vanderbilt 43. Jackson Davis grabs a miss. Jackson Davis has got four rebounds in the game. Kaminga finds heel. [Applause] [Applause] Here’s Butler. Oh, and the release was before the buzzer, but it’s off target. It’s still anybody’s game as we reach the end of three. The Warriors on top. They’re up by two. We’ll get right back to the action when we return. [Applause] And a moment now as we take a look at our State Farm assist of the game.
You talk about painting a magnificent picture with that, Don. Just a great decision and a perfect delivery.
And they’d love to see every possession end this way. True team basketball. [Applause] Three tenth quarters behind us. One more to go. Thanks for being with us as we get ready for the fourth. On the court for the Lakers to start the fourth. At the forward slots, it’s LeBron and Aimura. Gave Vincent out there with connect and it’s Finny Smith in at the five.
That’s exactly the kind of shooting you need down the stretch to win games. Aimura with a screen on Curry. Aimura left side over Kuminga. Pass to connect out to James. Shot clock at three. Here’s Fenny Smith. The Warriors pull it in. Dominguez has got rebound number five here tonight. Here’s Heel. Curry looking it over. [Applause] Here’s Looney. Healed on the wing. Over connect from out on the wing. He knocks it down. And now a seven-point Warrior lead. deal good at using this area of the floor. He’s an impressive mid-range shooter. [Applause] Benson outside. Oh, stolen by Payton. Not watching the line there. That’ll be a backcourt violation. [Music] First minute and a half of basketball played here in the fourth. Count it for Vincent.
Really doesn’t matter what position LeBron is playing. The point, the four or the five. James changes games with his passing ability. And so it’s Curry with it. He brings it up for the Warriors. It’s a five-point game. Pass to Looney. [Applause] Oh, Looney with the smooth move inside. And the Lakers shooting a nice 50% for the game. Vincson outside. [Applause] Here’s James on the wing guarded by Peyton. There’s the strength of the King. A clutch basket right there. The later we get into this game now, the more they need to attack the rim. The three from Curry. The offensive rebound. Another shot outside Payton. Looney the screen to the paint and it’s stolen by Finny Smith. James with the ball. Payton covering. You know the power and intensity on display there from James, guys. I mean, giving the defense no other choice but to foul.
And some stats here, guys. The scoring breakdown for the Warriors. I mean, they’ve played some beautiful basketball all game. The passing has been impressive and it’s opened up things with their ball movement.
They’ve also found a lot of shots at the arc in this one and allowing their good shooters to tee it up. [Applause] checked in for the Warriors. And the Lakers also making a switch. Goodwin’s checked in. [Applause] Second free throw. No good. Just a tough miss at the line. They’re down two baskets now. Here’s Pimsky. And he makes no mistake. Slam dunk. Woo. Defensively, you can’t afford to let him get to the rim that easily.
Well, that might be why their deficit is what it is right now. You know, you look at it, the communication is lacking, as is the trust. They can ill afford those types of breakdowns. It won’t work. You can’t win with those kind of breakdowns.
Now, here is James. Oh, and the jam by James. Tell you what, just add that one to the highlight reel. James is truly one of the greatest slam dunkers of all time. The Warriors lead by four. Curry with it. To the middle. Here’s Kuminga. That shot off the mark. The Lakers have gone three of four in the fourth and looking confident on offense. James. So it’ll be two free throws. He was fouled in the act of shooting. That’s on Gary Payton second. Hey, you have to have pity for the defense right there. I mean, LeBron is an absolute load down low. Shooting two. And he makes a first. Hayes is checked in for Finny Smith. [Applause] [Applause] both free throws good from James. A look at the clock. A little under three and a half minutes gone by in the fourth. Now here’s Pajki outside. Curry on the ark. Rebounded by LeBron. James has got rebound number seven tonight. That’s a good one. [Applause] Back to James. Hayes with a screen on Payton. James from distance. Easy work. All systems are on go when LeBron has the ball behind the arc. Looney with the ball outside. Curry and he converts the layup. Curry’s got 39 coming down the stretch. It’s still anyone’s game. Incredible effort and energy on both sides. These guys must be gassed. For Los Angeles, they’ve gotten four or five attempts to fall so far in the fourth. Here’s Vincent. Soft touch off the glass and the Lakers lead by one.
It’s winning time and that’s a winning play. The Warriors have gotten five shots out of nine to go in this fourth. [Applause] From outside the ark, Pajimsky shot is good. Pajimski’s got five points now this quarter. And this is just typical of him always making an impact at crucial moments in the game. You know, they want the ball in his hands here because they trust him to hit all the big shots. Count it. This has been the story of the game. A battle fought on offense. Any ling action so far has been short-lived because there have been nothing but buckets in this one. Outside Payton. Looney. A screen on James. Shot clock at six. Payton against James from the line. Peyton. No good. The Lakers have gotten almost all of their shots to fall in the fourth. Six of seven. Here’s Hayes. And a foul called on the way up. So he’ll take two from the free throw line. [Applause] Take a break. Take a break. Two shots. [Applause] The first one falls. Draymond Green. He’s checked in for the Warriors. Butler comes in for Kaminga. And he makes the first but misses the second. And so it’s Green who brings up the ball for the Warriors. Pass to Butler. [Applause] on the wing. Curry guarded by Dantic. [Applause] [Music] Peyton passes to Butler. It doesn’t go for him. Some solid defense from James. [Applause] There’s the three. The Warriors pull it in. But got six rebounds in the game. Outside, Butler, pass to Curry. Takes the three.
It’s Hayes with the rebound. Hayes has got 13 rebounds in the game. Glass eating. [Applause] Payton against Donic. And the rebound goes to the Warriors. Curry passes to Green. Oh, Green right through the contact there. And Green loves flexing on the defense. Welcomes the contact and overpowers it. Los Angeles has gone one of two from deep in this quarter. Donic finds Reeves.
There’s a screen. [Applause] Back to Donic. [Applause] shoots over Curry. He hits the back iron and sinks it. Donic has got 17 points here in the second half.
Seems like Luca’s jump shot gets better every year. He never stops working on his game.
And Steve Kerr calls timeout. He clearly wants to talk it over and make sure everyone is focused. [Applause] [Applause] Thank you. [Applause] [Applause] Moody’s checked in for Payton. Aimura’s checked in for the Lakers. Gives us a chance to catch up with Ally Leforce. During that break, coach Steve Kerr had some advice for the team. Coach knows they’re losing the three battle and he told the team, “We need to limit their outside looks, force them to put it on the floor and make them beat us off the dribble.” Back to you, Brian.
Okay, good stuff. Thank you, Ally. Golden State has got two of five threes to go here in the fourth. Outside Pajki, outside Butler. The gritty finish from Butler there. Oh, this one has turned into an absolute nailbiter.
Yeah, at this point you almost expect it to come down to the last possession. The Lakers have gotten seven of their first 10 shots to go during this fourth quarter. [Applause] Donic against Curry. Hayes with a screen on Curry to the paint and finished off by Hayes.
And that’s a double double for him. Now Donic knows he’s the focal point of the defense. So really good to see him find the open man. Curry passes to Green. Here’s Pajki. Here’s Moody. Moses Moody up strong for the jam. His hat time on the rim puts a sweet cherry on top. PA, it’s a close game and those displays of explosiveness can jumpst start a team and can put the other team on its heels. We’ll see how it plays out.
Here’s James. It’s rebounded by Jimmy Butler. The Warriors leading pass to Moody. Outside Curry from behind the ark. Good. Another from three. Burries his 10th triple of the game.
Unbelievable, BA. Unbelievable. The Lakers have gone eight of 12 so far here in the fourth. Now here’s Donic. That one falls. Donic has got four points this quarter.
How impressive is Donic? This guy is incredible at stepping up in big moments. Green with a screen on Donic. And here’s Curry for three. LeBron with the rebound. James has got rebound number eight now. Here’s Hayes. The shots good on the assist by James. James has got six assists now in the game. Here’s Pimsky. [Applause] outside. Curry launches a three and again for three. Man, he’s really launching him from outside the arc. Man, so locked in. Feeling confident in his three-point shot tonight.
Machimura finds James. Rebounded by Green. Green’s got doubledigit rebounds now in the game. Pass to Curry. Yeah, steerless play from Curry inside. Going up against tough defense and getting fouled while shooting. [Applause] [Applause] Then he drops to first. [Applause] [Applause] And so Curry nails both of them. He’s basically automatic from the line. Not the guy you want to send there. Now takes a step back. It counts and the foul. It’s on Stephen Curry. Luca very intentional in what he’s doing here. He understands he’s going to get hit, but he’s seeking out that contact and playing right through. [Applause] Golden State has gone four of eight from three-point land during the fourth. Outside Pajki, back to Curry. It’s rebounded by Los Angeles. James has got rebound number nine now. What an effort here tonight. Outside Reeves. Pass to Donic. And they doubled up. Donic. James outside. Three on the clock. So they take the lead and the Lakers lead by one. A smart decision maker with a versatile skill set. Patchy Murray always takes the shot that he’s comfortable with. Curry from deep three-point land. Tried to answer back, but that three is off the mark. A minute nine left in the fourth quarter. Donic against Curry. A nice shot by Donic. Now it’s a three-point Los Angeles lead. Any doubt who’s taking that shot? That’s Luca’s basketball all the way because he’s much in the clutch. And 101 left in the fourth. Donic against Curry to halt the run. Oh, he nails it. Oh, what a sensational bucket. That brings him within one. Grant, they’d love to milk the clock here. No question. They’re in a great situation right here. Here’s Donic. Count it. Talk about stepping up in a big way.
Well, that was want to. He wanted the ball. Nobody else was taking that shot.
And Steve Kerr calls timeout here. And coach didn’t want to take any chances in this situation, which is why he called the to. Any speculation on what we’re going to see coming out of this timeout?
And there’s enough time on the clock to go for a two for one. [Applause] Heat. Heat. [Applause] Heat. [Applause] Heat. [Applause] Now 8 seconds separating the two clocks. The three from Curry and got it. Another basket. That’s 52 points for him. Making it all look too easy right now. And so JJ Reick calls for the timeout. Critical moment here. He’s not taking any chances. [Applause] Heat. [Applause] [Applause] Heat. [Applause] Heat. Heat. [Applause] [Applause] Heat. [Applause] Heat. [Applause] Donic against Curry. Now here’s Dantic. He’s guarded closely. 12 seconds left in the game. Just five on the clock. Lets a three fly. This is the tray. And Steve Kerr calls timeout here. The pressure is on. And he’s got a plan to share with his guys. Heat. Heat. [Applause] Heat. Heat. Heat. Heat. [Applause] Heat. Heat. [Applause] Curry from deep three-point land. He’s out from three. Regulation has ended and we are headed to overtime. Don’t go anywhere, folks. We’ll be back in a moment. [Applause] Well, four quarters weren’t enough to decide this ball game. Sit back and enjoy as we move on to overtime. Here we go. [Applause] Reeves at the two with LeBron at the three. Hayes is out there with Ruy Aachimura and it’s Donuchin at the one. Pass to Butler. Here’s Curry. Six to shoot. Here’s Green. He’s defended by Hayes. Donic outside, misses the three. He’s got a nice feel for that crossover, but you still have to finish. Back to Green. Now Curry inside. Curry gets it to go through the defense as well. Hey, inside Curry has all the tricks. floaters, scoop shots, fall aways, left hand, right hand. However he has to do it, he will. The Lakers trail. And what action in this one. We’re about a minute into overtime. And there’s the call. It’s going to be an illegal screen. One of the trickier plays to judge, but it would be hard to argue against the call. Yeah, you know, the officials aren’t nearly as lenient as they used to be on that call. As a matter of fact, I know I got away with a lot of those in my playing days, but that was 40 years ago. Extra time here, just over a minute into overtime. [Applause] Ooh, rejected by Donic.
Luca’s sheer size makes him a mismatch for most guards.
No stopping him there. Jams it in and he’s fouled. An opportunity in a three-point play. That’s on Jimmy Butler. [Applause] One shot. [Applause] Free throw good. Aimura. The Warriors trailing. Pass to Green. [Applause] Now here’s Butler. Aimura covering. Now here’s Green. It’s tipped. Here’s Reeves. Here’s James. Pajimsky. Grabs the board on the wing. Curry. He’s covered by Reeves. There’s the block. Donic against Curry. Right side. Reeves. Machimura sets a screen and once again off the mark by Los Angeles. Butler passes to Green. It’s rebounded by Los Angeles. [Applause] Just under two and a half minutes past in this OT. Back to Donic. [Applause] uses the glass on the layup.
Donic has got 41.
Major dominance and it comes so easily for him. Fantastic at getting to his spots on the floor. [Applause] Outside Butler. Green with a screen on Aimura. Pass to Green. It’s Hayes with the rebound. Hayes has got rebound number 17 if you can believe that. Aimura the pass to Donic and there’s the drive then count that two points and a chance for one more at the line.
Speedy drive by Dantic that doesn’t quite go together. He usually is going at his home pace but he does take advantage of holes when he sees [Applause] The free throw off from Dodic. Warriors trail by five. Curry with it. Picked up by Reeves. Curry shot his own. And here’s Donic outside. nails it from beyond the ark.
Donic has got 46 and adding to this lead right now.
Riding a wave of momentum. Yeah, you get the sense that they’re going to start stretching this lead out a little bit. And Steve Kerr calls timeout. He is not messing around. Calling them into the huddle. [Applause] Heat. Heat. [Applause] Heat. [Applause] Heat. [Applause] [Applause] Just under three and a half minutes played in extra time here.
Green with a screen on Donic. Up top, Curry. Guarded by Donuch. Outside for Butler and it’s good. Assisting on the play was Curry. Butler’s got 30 points. And Butler relishes this. I mean, he feels really comfortable going right at the defense at crucial points in the game. And it’s Donic missing. And so it’s Green who brings up the ball for the Warriors. And so he draws the foul headed to the line to shoot a pair. It’s going to go on Jackson Hayes. Man, the defender really went after him.
Yeah, if you’re going to foul, then make sure that you don’t give a chance for the and one. [Applause] Good on the first and that shrinks the margin to just four [Applause] on the miss. personal miss. And so Curry nails both of them.
Yeah, they desperately needed those free throws and he delivered. It’s down to a one possession game, steps back, fires top of the key, and he buries it. I think I’ve lost track of how many of their possessions have ended exactly like that. Yeah, that’s not a bad way to end the possession, though. And it’s the reason this game is coming down to the wire. I mean, his touch from outside and from the field in general has been superb. You see why they trust Curry. I mean, give him the rock and let him make a play. [Applause] [Applause] And that one falls for Curry. Exactly what this team needed. Completing the and one. Donic against Curry. Good. He hits again. My goodness. 50 for the game. Just putting on a show. [Applause] Heat. [Applause] Heat. [Applause] That’s good from Donic. The and one puts a little extra insurance on their lead. What a play. It’s all come down to this one critical possession. And BA, you can feel the intensity in this arena. And it’s in. When you need a big bucket, Curry knows exactly how to come through. Clutch. [Applause] So, it’s Los Angeles now. Three-point lead. And now they decide to foul intentionally. He hits the first one and that gives him a four-point cushion. Second one is good. Getting both at the line and it’s a five-point game. Showing great confidence from the line. That makes this a two-possession game. And Steve Kerr calls timeout here. He was quite emphatic, demanding the timeout, clearly wanting to address strategy with his team. Heat. Heat. Heat. Heat. Heat. Heat. Two seconds separating the shot clock and the game clock. Curry passes to Moody.
He didn’t have his feet planted. Yeah. And and I I like this call because you want the refs in that situation. If there’s any doubt, air on the side of giving the benefit of the doubt to the offensive player. That should have been a block and it was.
And a second look at that rejection, taking no prisoners on defense there.
Yeah, obviously he had the shot well anticipated, able to shut it down with authority. So the first one drops and that shrinks the margin to just four. [Applause] And so Curry nails both of them. And they need to stop the clock. So there’s the foul.
Yeah, just trying to keep this game alive. Not a bad foul right there.
Sure. It’s not over. Clock is as much a problem for them as the score is right now. So they got to try to manage it. [Applause] He drops the first one and that gives him a four-point cushion and he cannot convert on the second. that misses and not a moment to lose on this possession.
Got to go right up with it and then foul immediately
and he’ll take a trip to the line for two. Clearly got fouled on that shot. How about the intelligence of Curry’s game using the pump fake to get the contact. First free throw is good. And that narrows the lead down to just three. [Applause] And that one goes in. Two from the line that time. And now an intentional foul. They need the ball back as soon as possible. 62. [Applause] He gets the first and that makes it a three-point lead. [Applause] and he’s unable to get the second one. Hey, the whole arena and anybody else watching knows they need a three to force another overtime. Fighting for the rebound, making sure they take back possession. And an intentional foul there stops the clock. [Applause] [Applause] And that hurts as he doesn’t get the first one to fall. Trying to focus now for the second. And the second and two is good. And that gives him a four-point cushion. And so it’s the Lakers who scrape by with the win. It was touch and go there for a while, but in overtime they caught a second win. They really did. And it was wild. everything it took just to get to the extra period and then their surge at the end. Well, now a minute to check in with Ally Leforce. She’s courtside. Hey, Ally.
All right, guys. LeBron, a superstar matchup tonight. What goes through your mind when you’re facing that kind of a challenge? You know, for me, it’s never about an individual challenge um or an individual game. It’s about the team. Now, you do take the challenge anytime you’re going against anybody, but you also got to have your mind in the game, too, and not make it personal. So, taking the challenge, making sure your mind is in the right frame, and uh just trying to make plays for your teammates to be successful.
Thanks, LeBron. Back to you, Ally. Thank you as always. Well, folks, that’s going to do it for now for Alli Leforce, Clark Kellogg, and Grant Hill. This is Brian Anderson thanking you for watching the NBA presented by 2K Sports. And time now to introduce our player of the game, Luca Donic.
