Gil’s Arena Grades The Houston Rockets’ MASSIVE Moves

Back to the Rockets. Like I said, a lot of moves. KD, Black and Mobs, previously known as back to Dorian. Steven Adams Adoka locked up.
A
Fred Van Fleet.
A great You giving the the Rockets A
A plus
for their offseason move.
A plus.
A plus. Two double.
So what’s their potential starting lineup first before you?
Don’t even matter. KD Black and M
without their lineup. The same lineup they had last year was number two.
A Thomas, KD.
No, it was uh it took care of Thompson Brooks G.
Now I’m talking about now it’s going to be a Thompson, KD fan, the center, the little joker, and who’s the powerful
Kabari.
Kabari.
Yep. With Capella, Steven Adams on the bench. Trey E. Cam with more herself.
J Sean Tate resigned
Dame Lillard potentially.
Trey E.
Oh man.
What what you got the number on? The number for what?
I think it’s two for 50 or something like that. But let me double check.
Lakers might be interested.
Two for 50. They got
Yeah, they added about five about eight more million dollars to it and just spread it on two years.
So he was he had one year 40 left
and it just added like
they should be the favorite. He had like 10 more million than
Yeah, he had he had a $45 million team option. They gave him 5 more million spread. Team option.
The Rockets had a team option for him for 45 mil. They declined the team option. Gave him two for 50. Basically like we going we going to decline this unless you ready to talk. Damn. He
So he took so he took five more million to extend that.
He couldn’t get he could have got more than that somewhere else though. Two year 50.
I mean this economy but why would you leave? But why would you leave?
I’m just saying.
But why would you leave?
If you could get more money somewhere else, but why would you leave? You already championship ring.
Possibly go get you another one. Why would you leave? It’s the best situation for him. Get your ass right where you at.
So, moving on to Mr. B. How would you grade the Rockets offseason moves thus far? Uh, I’m going to go the same. A
A+. A++. Are you going A or A+? I’m gonna go A. Okay.
I like the fact that we signed the coach, took care of the coach, they got KD, a guy that can get 27 tonight and you still got your young pieces. So, you know, if you’re trying to compete for a championship and you’re trying to move forward, uh, having a guy like Katie, a guy that just likes to hoop and, you know, he’s going to a lot of things that they can learn from him, I think, is going to benefit them.
Let’s shift over to you, Kenyon. How would you grade the Rockets offseason moves thus far?
A plus.
A+. Damn. Okay.
No, you locked your coach up who you believe in. You was a second seed last year. You can only you’re looking up at one team. They want it. You think you got better as with your roster. Everybody. So I’m
This is a lot better.
Yeah, that’s that’s another year playing for him, another understanding, and you add that plugandplay player, man. And it’s it’s a recipe for success. So barring injury, everybody’s healthy. Um, yeah, we all know winning is a learned behavior. I think they got a taste of it last year. Um, yeah, you bring a winner in in KD. Um, Dorian Finny Smith helps you. Um, so you replace what you lost in Dylan Brooks far as defense and being able to guard multiple positions. So, no. Yeah, it’s
Yeah. Let’s move over to Moneym Sunday. How would you grade the Rockets offseason moves as Swaggy walks past the camera?
It’s okay. This is We are a live show. Y’all got to do what y’all got.
A with a triple.
A with a triple A. Uh it makes them extremely dangerous now. I mean, the thing that they did miss was a a guy who could slow the ball down, slow the game down, crunch time, take good shots, be efficient with those shots. they was missing that leadership as far as a vet that can actually show them outside of Flan uh uh Van Vleet that um execution is important. I think they were playing hero ball at certain points where he may couldn’t get them under control. I think somebody like KD, he’s going to get respect immediately just because of the resume and legacy, but I think his proven track record is consistency and efficiency and being able to know that in crunch time moments, give me the ball, y’all don’t have to worry about nothing. I don’t think they ever had those type of options. That puts them kind of over the top. If you really think about them being number two all year with Jaylen Green, him not knowing what to do in those positions. KD’s season vet. It’s an opportunity for him to really ride off in the sunset and try to get him one with this type of team.
Maybe maybe his best opportunities obviously.
Yeah, definitely
in the in the since his movement from the Warriors.
And then what also does it allows cuz their number one option Alpine Sego, right? They’re going to play through him
and with having KD out there, you can’t double, right? He gets to play one-on-one now.
You put Thompson in the dunker. You put Jabari’s a spacer. Mhm. I mean like he’s a slash sometimes the kid is a slash. You put him in the dunk at times
but Sangon gets to play one-on-one. Fred makes shots. Jabari makes shots. KD makes shots. And you put Doran Finny makes shots. So you put people around that can make shots. Houston dangerous. Swag. Let’s move on to you. How would you grade the Rockets off season?
Um I would say, you know, at first I wasn’t fun on this team, but now I give him an A+, you know. I like the mentality of putting a ring before the, you know, taking a pay cut. Van Fleet taking a pay cut just to try to win a championship. Already has a ring.
Wait a minute. He took a Did he full circle?
Got five circle. He didn’t really have an option in this situation.
Good.
Yeah. Did not have to do that. Don’t do that. Don’t you do that.
There’s nothing to do.
He just did it. No, he did not. There’s nothing to do.
It was a team option. Damn. Can I get a shot?
Can I get a shot? The team say you’re not getting this bread.
It was a play option.
He Hey, he said full circle.
No. No. Full circle.
He could have got way more. He took a He took a pay cut.
No. Y’all reaching.
Come on, man. You don’t do that, man.
A force pay cut, if you will. Y’all reaching now. Your arms ain’t that long.
Yeah.
I got a 7 foot wingspan. They said
beneath them wind. I got you. I got you. Look, I think like this two to one. Let me ask a question. So, what makes y’all think he took a pay cut?
Nothing. Nothing. I don’t want to get into that.
I’m just ask cuz he know since y’all since your man reaching I just want to know what what makes y’all think he took a pay cut?
There was some key King.
I just I I just a real question because if y’all think he took a pay cut,
what was his last contract? H
I think it was like like a three for 3140 but team option in the final year. Okay.
So
what was that team option?
Huh? For 40
45 minutes.
He only got five more men.
No.
For two more years.
Okay.
The team option, not a player option. Team. So the team could have decided what they wanted to do.
You don’t think Kevin Durant’s worth more?
We’re not talking about Kevin Durant. See the [ __ ] How he get in this conversation? We talking about Fred. Let me talk about Fred Van Vleet. We’re not talking about Kevin Durant. So, so once we talking about Kevin Durant,
no, we’re not talking about him once again. So, y’all want to read
You want 40 in one and be a free agent or
No, it’s
No, that’s basically you’re owed 40 million a year. And I’m saying as a owner, I don’t want you for $40 million.
For 45 and I could say, “Okay, I’ll go be a free agent.”
Go be a free agent. Now, you got to go get a contract.
Yes. And I guarantee I could get one. signed a three $121 million deal.
I get more than what I’m that
you go get 45
40 45 like champion 40 million for 45. No, he is what he makes. Listen, it was a team. No, he said a two-year deal.
No, he had a team option with the Rockets for 45 million.
If nothing happens, he could
they threw it out for the Rockets. He was old. The Rockets declined that team went somewhere and got 46.
The the the team said, “We don’t we don’t want you for 45 million for one year.”
And he could have been a free agent.
He would have been a free agent.
He said they split that.
So now you got 50 for two years.
50 for two.
Yes.
So instead of making 45, he’s making 25. So 46 team was a free player option. How much if he was on market right now?
He got 25.
No. Three more or less lost on the market. He lost $20 million.
Mick, he was on the market. He got 25.
You think he would have got more than 45?
You thought he would have got one year for 45 million. 46. He said more. He said more.
So who’s going to pick? He said last contract was what? Three.
So he would have got 48. Three for 129.
46. Yeah. Who has one million more dollars than 45 is 46? No one.
Who has $46 million to get Fred? Who out there has 46 million?
He could have got more than this.
Who?
For sure. Who? Where?
Everywhere. Who? Where? where every everywhere would not be 29 who got money
for point guard for point guard
everybody right
there’s 29 other teams
Brooklyn Nets the only team that has money
tell us who nick Brooklyn Nets
who just got paid miles got what one something cut they had to cut so he couldn’t go there so
they had to cut D Minnesota just do
Minnesota need a point guard
we sign their own players
they can’t afford
three for 100 for Julius Randle and five for 125
you know what I’m saying they don’t have he don’t like if he thought he had the money out there he went but there’s nobody who has that type of money for him in the free agency.
But what if he just wanted to stay Miami? Miami. I mean, you got to think about if he went into the market.
The team denied the team denied the option.
The team option. So the team declined his option. So you can go be a free agent or you can take this two for 50, stay in Houston, keep all your stuff.
Stay here or we go go. Good luck out there in open market. He took the the two the so he know
cuz the market [ __ ] up right now. This year this year is a little off.
This year is off. next year that’s a different story. right now but what they are they signed is
yeah point guards it’s points
number two like what was his numbers
it was a smart it was a smart move for him
nobody need point guards
for 40
wouldn’t have got $46 million
nobody need point guards I want to prove
Garland is 39
so if they picked up that option what happened
Van Fleet averaged 14 to six assist but do they trade him do they move him
who is going to trade for 45 million friends with a multi- team you can you can move you can They can’t sign Jabari. They can’t go sign Capella.
They couldn’t have signed this group just now. They couldn’t sign none of them.
They couldn’t have signed um Black and Mild. They couldn’t have got none of them still black.
But nobody’s taking that $45 million. What y’all missing here?
If they sign him, they don’t change people. That’s why it was a team option, bro. If he would have stayed in That’s why it was a team option in there last. It wasn’t a play option.
He didn’t have nothing on the market. No, you’re missing for 45 million straight. They going to take a straight up for 45 million. I got to pay you 45 out of KD. No other$45 for that expiring contract. Three people they just signed. I needed him to take that’s a lot of money. I needed him.
So the same thing with this.
Yeah. So I’m saying I’m not going to give you this money. What are you going to do?
52.6. It’s a team though
cuz then he’ll have to play out that one year and then
No. No. This is not g to you. Walk
because it’s businesswise.
It’s a LeBron. This is what they would have got. Walk about the numbers. Not
4. I get 46.
You can’t separate the two.
If you still want to be the point guard here, how much you going to take?
I’m forcing you to do. Van Fleet averaged 14 and six last season.
What?
14 and six assists.
14 to6 or $45 million. What you got?
Nobody. That’s dope dog food.
For 46 minutes. Nobody. Huh? for nobody saying that for 46 million.
Don’t you listen to all $45 million dog
signing trade.
They didn’t want him for 40. Obviously, they didn’t want him for 46.
They signed them for you. Average 46 back then. I needed back then. That’s why team option.
But it had the team option on it. He signed that three-year deal with the Rockets 2023. How many times did he get 40?
Huh? So, I forget what the the number breakdown, but he got two seasons of that bread. 40.
Yeah. Yeah. And then the team
I had all the money two years ago. So I signed him. I signed Dylan Brooks. Right. That was that that was
So you really kind of owe me 46 45.
No, you don’t owe your [ __ ]
I I gave it to you.
We gave you 50 for two.
You gave me Yeah.
You gave me your 46 for this is 44 million for
this is when remember this is when was it two years ago when we signed um what was his name? Threeletter. We ain’t seen him since he left Miami. That Gabe.
Gabe.
Yeah, that’s that that summer when Gabe just got money. We
He’s But no, time out, Gil cuz you said Gabe three letters, but you were thinking Sam as the name you called him previously until you learned his name.
Gabe Sam that it was that it was that it was that it was that
when everybody was just like
getting money. Gabe Benson.
Damn. Why? Man, we could have got Fred. Could have, would have, should have, but swag, you never gave me a grade for the Rockets off season.
You gave me A+.
I said A+.
Okay.
There was a lot going on before that.
They favor.
So, first time in the couch history you all unanimously agreed Rockies got a A or higher on their offseason moves.
I think they will be a a dominant force in the Western Conference, potentially competing with the Thunder to go with the finals. Well, let’s talk about a the Rockets, one of their newest additions. So LeBron released a new episode of his

Gil’s Arena Grades The Houston Rockets’ MASSIVE Moves as Gilbert Arenas & The Gil’s Arena Crew react to the Houston Rockets big moves to start off NBA Free Agency like their trade for Kevin Durant, resigning of Fred VanVleet & Ime Udoka and acquisition of Dorian Finney-Smith and debate if these moves were enough to lift this squad over the OKC Thunder as the top team in the NBA’s Western Conference.

  1. Fred made $40m last year, he signed $25m and $25m next year.. Nick is correct, he took a pay cut. He is at least for sure making $30m in market, but Kmart made a point, who has that $40m money in the market, $30m is possible though.

  2. It doesn't change the fact that its true, but I feel like the comments about the team are all the same and copied. Nevertheless, the Rockets are primed for contention . Rashad saying they played hero ball at times shows he didn't watch them play and just wanted to add something to sound like he knows what he is saying.Dillon Brooks had no fear on offense or defense, regardless of the results and that part of his game will he missed. Routinely, no one stepped up to be the number 1 unless they were hot that night (maybe Sengun at times tried). KD gives them that closer until Amen and/or Sengun are polished enough to take on that role.

  3. Dudes just talk
    Dame lillard potentially
Stop it just wait to see what the guy does
He cant even play this year he hurt

  4. The Rockets will not win the championship next year. kD is going to fadeaway. It looks good on paper 😂

  5. Fred should be very happy to take 2/$50 considering his performance last year. Happy for him though

  6. So we just gonna pretend KD to Houston isn’t the most random superstar move since Shaq to the Suns?? This man really about to mentor Jabari and Jalen like some anime sensei?? 💀 I NEED to see how this plays out…

  7. 😂😂 everytime Kd topic come up ima commenting the Rockets not winning shit stop cappin for them if they do win its gone be after KD gone 😂

  8. I would’ve tried to keep Brooks somehow, maybe ship Eason instead. But I’m not mad at any of these moves. This is a winning team

  9. That’s the perfect contract for Fred. That’s the best he gonna get and it’s the best situation

  10. What I'm about to say may sound a little off or crazy but Rashad said Jalen Green didn't know what to do in the playoffs but K.D will know what to do, it reminds me of when Toronto got rid of DeRozan & added Kawhi… Houston guarantee without any significant injuries will win the championship easy.. Mark this reply Gil..

  11. Bro listen, I believe people are blinded by this trade, think about the toughness that Jalen Green and dillon brooks bring defensively, now think of the fact that there is actually 2 guys that are good defensively and your losing 2 defensive players. Now KD is an elite shooter and player, yes he's an upgrade offensively but can he match the defense in those 2 guys?
That's the only problem I see, it's almost a repeat of the nets situation, don't forget we had KD Kyrie and Harden on a team but the defense got traded to get all that offense. KD will not make Houston better he needs more defense now

  12. Lmao i thought they were gonna talk more about the rockets and they just ended up trying to figure out what a team option means 😂 alcohol

  13. "I like this team," Nick remarked. lowering wages in order to win a championship. Kenyon and Kevin Durant are included in that. Not only Fred V. Kenyon Martin, you're mistaken; it's alright.
