Now, you can choose to believe that his inefficiency as a scorer when the stage lights got brighter is the true indicator as to who he’ll be in the NBA, and that’s fine. But I’m going to choose to look at the bigger picture. And within those 1,000 words, I’m finding a ton of evidence to suggest he’ll be a more than capable scorer at the next level. such as his near 87% shooting from the free throw line on the season. A fantastic mark for a non-point guard, especially when you pair it with his level of touch and finesse around the rim in that floater range, something he relied on often this past season to score inside given that he isn’t the most impressive above the rim athlete in the world. Thinking specifically about how he’ll fit in Charlotte, you couldn’t have done much better to find another core building block to have around LaMelo Ball if you made one in a lab. While we saw glimpses of his star level upside during his time at Yukon, what truly makes McNeely a special prospect is his ability to play alongside other talented players and still have a massive impact on winning. Playing alongside Cooper Flag in high school, he slid in as the team’s third leading scorer and playmaker with 50 45 84 shooting splits. As a senior, he excelled playing off the ball, understanding how to space the floor properly with a great sense of when to cut to the basket for easy looks.
