Indiana Pacers – Myles Turner SMART! Colts & Chicago Bulls eerily similar! Fever tonight for $500k!
How about that? Miles Turner. Miles Turner is showing some aditess and negotiating that he does not show on the basketball court. And good for him. Normally, I’m generous with criticism of Miles Turner and a little bit stingy with praise. Not this morning. In free agency, Miles Turner’s handling his situation like the old pro that he is. 10-year veteran. The Pacers have painted themselves into a corner where they absolutely have to have Miles Turner because who the hell else is going to play center for them? And Miles Turner is saying, “hm, I wonder what my market is. I wonder who else is out there who might just want me a little bit more and might raise the bidding just a little bit.” And and let’s see if the Pacers match that bidding. Pacers in in a position where they have in George Castanza’s uh parliament, they have no hand. Miles Turner, he’s got a big hand and he’s using it in these negotiations. We’ll talk about it. We’ll talk about NBA free agency. A lot of teams making a lot of news yesterday. The Pacers not among them. Pacers have most of their team under contract. So really the only news they could make given the fact that Miles Turner is likely to take them over the luxury tax threshold they going to do nothing in free agency beyond signing Miles Turner at least in this first flurry where people overspend a little bit. We’ll talk uh about what other teams have done. Jiren Jackson Jr. with an extension. Jordan Clarkson coming to an agreement to join the Knicks after he clears waiverss. That kind of thing. a lot of like low uh Gary Trent Jr. type uh extensions, that kind of thing. Low money extensions, some for a legitimate wage. You know what these guys these guys who are signing for nothing or it seems like nothing like Trendan Watford. All right, sign what is it? uh Watford’s signing. He’s got uh a uh uh a 2-year deal. 5.3 million. Sounds like chicken feed, right? That’s 2.65 million a year. Would you not love to make 2.65 million in a year? If you made 2.65 million for two consecutive years, you might go wheels up and say, “You know what? The hell with this. I’m done working. I’m retiring at the age of 26 or whatever the hell Trinity Watford is. Uh we’re also going to talk about the Colts. I hit on this a little bit yesterday afternoon. The Chicago Bulls and the Indianapolis Colts to me are like the same franchise. And and the more you dig into it, the more they’re like each other. And that can’t make Indianapolis Colts fans happy because who wants to be like the Chicago Bulls? Am I right or am I right? Back in the 90s, everybody wanted to be the Bulls. But even in 989, the Bulls didn’t want to be the Bulls anymore. They could have brought it back with Scotty Pippen, Michael Jordan, Dennis Rodman, Phil Jackson. They could have run back a three-time champ that had won six times in eight years. And the Bulls said, “Nah, pass. What idiots.” from Jerry Reyndorf on down. And really on down just means uh Jerry Krauss. Idiots, stone cold morons not to bring back what they had when those guys were all set to return if the Bulls had just said, “Okay, just absolute stupidity.” the Indiana Fever tonight against the Minnesota Links for the Commissioner’s Cup, which doesn’t count in the standings, but it does count in the pocketbook. There is a cash uh pot of $500,000 that will be split uh among the winning roster. How about that? We’ll talk about that just a little bit. Is Caitlyn Cart going to play? We don’t know. This is Breakfast with Kent for Tuesday, July 1st. Where the hell did June go? 2025 brought to you by the great people at today’s dentistry. Dr. Mike O’Neal, the best dentist in the world. Make him your dentist. It’s as easy as making a phone call. 3178492933. I’ve been a patient there for the last 30 years. Fillings, crowns, cleanings, uh, oral cancer screenings, whatever I needed, Dr. Mike is there for me. He’ll be there for you, too. 3178492933, the number. Make sure and subscribe because when you subscribe, you avail yourself of the chance to win this very, very cool uh retro jersey signed by the great Jack Youngblood. We have Bears fans because we have a lot of viewers in the Chicagoland area. Uh this unbelievable helmet, replica Ryell helmet, signed by the great Mike Brown, one of the great safeties in the history of that franchise. uh three other prizes and then the pest resistance the Pton Manning sign slick. You must be a subscriber to be eligible to win. So smash that subscriber button and then the phrase that pays is Payton Manning is the goat. That’s the phrase that pays for this week. We will give a prize away Friday and and it will be up to you to decide which prize that will be. We will reveal a picture that’s going to go on the uh the great wall of fame. I’ll put three up today. We’ve done the previous two. We had me with John Tesh. We had me with this lady who is in Animal House. She played uh Babs. And then me with the great uh Drew Cary, of course. Nothing better than Beers with Drew Carey, especially Disney World. Inexplicable, I know. Uh, make sure and hit the like button. That that like button determines whether you’re a polite person or an impolite person. It’s just that simple. And Hoosiers tend to be polite. So, hit the like button. And if you want to make a donation, make a donation. No big whoop. But make sure and include a comment or a question that elevates the level of discourse on the channel. All right, let’s talk about the NBA and free agency. And Miles Turner is playing the Pacers like a pro. Because without Miles Turner, what do they do in the middle? What do they do in the pivot? What do they do for a center if not Miles Turner? Are they would they have the timmerity to try to start Isaiah Jackson or plan to when Isa Isaiah Jackson is coming off that Achilles chair? James Weisman, he didn’t even under contract with the Pacers. What What would you do? Tony Bradley, would he be the guy that you install as the starting center for a team that just went to the NBA finals? Miles Turner I is moving into free agency with an eye toward business. And that’s exactly what he should do. What he should do is what he’s doing. Wait. Because the Pacers need Miles Turner more than Miles Turner needs the Pacers. There is a market out there for Miles Turner. and somebody is going to pay him legitimate money, real money. So that three years 75 million that is rumored to be on the desk of Miles Turner with Herb Simon’s name on it, does he want that? Not if the Lakers are willing to pay 33 million. Not if they’re willing to go to 33 and Miles Turner says, “Hey, let’s do three years 100 million. You guys in? I’m in. I’ll sign.” They’re like, “We we’ve given you our offer.” So, the negotiating dance continues between Miles Turner and the Indiana Pacers. A lot of people thought this was going to be quick. I got nothing but respect for Miles Turner, the businessman. Not so much Miles Turner, the basketball player, but a lot for Miles Turner, the businessman. He’s playing this like a pro. And good for him. News in free agency yesterday. The Grizzlies extended Jiren Jackson Jr. 5 years, $240 million. I don’t know what the Grizzlies are doing. Like they’re running it back with with Edy and Jackson and Morant and what are they going to get out of that that they didn’t get out of this year? You know what I mean? So, uh I don’t know. They they just kind of keep doing the same thing over and over again and expecting a different result. We’ll see if maybe that result changes. Uh Cavon Looney, two years,$16 million to go to the Pelicans. Wow. You want to go to the Pelicans? Go to the Pelicans, I guess. Dorian Finny Smith, four years, 53 million to the Rockets. D’Angelo Russell, 2 years, 13 million to the Mavs. Luke Cornette to the Spurs, four years, 41 million. Caris Levert to the Pistons, 2 years, 29 million. Man. All right, Detroit, spend your money. Uh Clint Capella to the Rockets, 3 years, 21.5 million. Michael Porter Jr. a firstrounder to the Nets. The Nuggets get Cam Johnson in return. Brook Lopez, one of the few center centers on the market. He’s old, elderly. What is he 38? Going to be 38. Two years uh $18 million to the Clippers. Luca Garza, two years, 5.5 million to the Celtics. Luke Canard 1 year, 11 million. Lake or Jake Loravia 2 years and 12 million. the Indiana State product, make him bank. Good for him. We’ll see maybe some uh movement on the Miles Turner front today. But I Hey, in for a penny, in for a pound. See how long the Pacers are willing to wait. I don’t blame Miles Turner one bit in negotiating the way he is. A lot of fans thought this was a done deal that the Pacers were going to give big money to to Miles Turner. Maybe the Pacers are kind of playing it smart and saying, “Hey, you’re just not worth it.” Like, we 18 million last year. What makes you think as your stats continue to decline a little bit over the last two years, what makes you think you’re going to be better for us or more valuable to us next year? And Miles Turner is saying, “Well, who else you got? Like, the pantry is empty. What are you going to do? Not sign me? This is interesting. The longer it goes, I think the better a position Miles Turner is in. I don’t even know if there’s a plan B. If Kevin Pritchard doesn’t have a plan B, shame on him. He’s pretty smart. There’s got to be a plan B. We’ll see if he’s willing to exercise that plan B. Similarities between the Colts and the Bulls, different sports, but I think the same mindset, patience, process, both exercising patience and process. And both GMs telling us that we need to have patience and understand the process and that it can take a long time to build. The the Bulls have not been worth much the last few years. 39 and 43 the last two years. The year before that I think they were 40 and 42. Uh not a player in the Eastern Conference in a long time. And and you can go back, they did have one okay year, but then you drop back to years where they won kind of in the 20s and and that’s where the similarities kind of end. The the Colts never back off that far. They never recede beyond the mean, right? Last year 8 and N. The year before that nine and eight. The year before that we don’t talk about because that was a Jeff Saturday year and things just went wacky and what are you gonna do that that was a year that just didn’t make a whole lot of sense. Year before that nine and eight. The year before that they go to the playoffs with Philip Rivers. But over the last four years this team has been entrenched in mediocrity. If in 2022 the Colts had stayed the course with Frank Reich and Matt Ryan, I think they wind up going 8 and N again. They are perfectly mediocre. The Bulls perfectly mediocre. Both GMs say the same thing. We have got to understand this is a process and it requires patience and if you accelerate too quickly, you build impatience and uh expectations that the team is unlikely to be able to meet. That’s what the Bulls GM said and he’s right. It’s those expectations that get you fired. And that is how Chris Ballard has been the GM of the Colts, entering his ninth season without any real success in that time because he keeps cautioning us against big expectations and and does not provide us reason to suspect that big expectations would be validated. That’s Ballard. That’s the Colts. That’s the Bulls. They are the same exact franchise in two different leagues. Um, Fever tonight in the finals of the Commissioners Cup, $500,000 on the line. This game does not count in the standings. Uh, Caitlyn Clark, she is dayto-day. We’ll see if she’s good to go tonight or not. Uh, fivegame home stand coming up Thursday through a week from Sunday. So, you would guess she’s not going to be able to play or she won’t play tonight. She’s going to target Thursday as her return date. See if she can get back on the floor and play kind of, you know, I mean, you got 17,000 plus fans buying tickets to see Kaitlin Clark play. You’d like to have Caitlin Clark on the floor or there will be dissatisfaction among Fever fans. Uh Aaliyah Boston, third time she’s going to be a starter in the WNBA All-Star game which is coming up on July 19th right here in Indianapolis. Let’s celebrate some birthdays, shall we? On this uh it looks like the rain might be over. We can hope that the rain’s over. Scott Springer, happy birthday. Michael Wolvin, happy birthday. John Stewart, Brett Brisco, Peter Kurless, celebrating a birthday. Uh Kevin Cook, Jim McCoy, Greg Fulhart, happy birthday. David Barry Hill, Greg Coleman, Andrea Crane, Bill Gerald’s, and Michelle Yoder Crane. Happy birthday. If today’s your birthday, you celebrate like hell. If it’s not your birthday, you celebrate somebody else. That is best done with an honest and specific compliment. Pull each other up. Don’t drag each other down. We get enough of that. People have enough reason to be afraid in life. They don’t need to be afraid of you. They should be happy to see you. Be complimentary toward people. Be positive toward people. It’s a nice thing to do. The picture today from Disney World, the great Drew Cary, now the host of The Price is Right. Me. What I got in my hand? It looks like I got a beer. I’m holding his beer. We all got beers. We’re all having a great time. That’s what you do at Disney World. You never know who you’re going to run into at Disney World. Drew Kerry said, “Kent,” I said, “Drew, big hugs. What a night.” U, so we’ll restore that to the uh the wall of fame pictures on the wall. Continue to go up one at a time at a nauseatingly slow pace. Um, again, you want to win an autograph, hand autographed. This isn’t printed, hand autographed. We got a uh certificate uh certification of this uh autograph being judged as uh authentic. I got it from pristine auctions. So there you go. Also the Jack Young Bloodood jersey. Unbelievably cool. One of the tough guys ever. Uh played in the Super Bowl with a broken fibula. How about that? We’ll give those away throughout the next six weeks. Uh we’ve got four other prizes. All great prize. Oh, Mike Tomzac autographed Ohio State mini helmet. Who doesn’t want that? All you have to do is be a subscriber and Pton Manning is goat is the phrase that pays this week. We’ll talk to you on the radio in uh about 10 minutes. WGCL radio in Bloomington. Bloomington’s voice the app. Download the app. listen to the show. How about that? Then inside Indiana Sports anal this afternoon about four o’clock. Can’t wait to talk to you then.

Not losing any sleep over Turner moving on. He disappeared in the Finals. I have no issue with him disappearing from the roster.
Great. Cheap front office and fickle fan base chased Myles off. Congrats weirdos.
