Philadelphia 76ers Sign Jabari Walker My Thoughts!!
Yo, what’s going on guys? It’s Houston Sports Talk back in another video day. And today, the Philadelphia 76ers have signed Jabario Walker to a 2-way contract. The 69 uh small forward power forward is joining the 76ers. The 76ers are making one of their now it’s their second signing that they’ve brought in of outside players from different teams. They brought in Trenon Watford, now Jabari Walker. Sure, they’ve made a bunch of resignings bringing back guys. uh Ubé and Andre Drummond just both opted into their options. Eric Gordon resigned. They’ve made small moves like that, bringing back some of the some of their own, but you’ve seen moves like drafting VJCOM. Um and then obviously now signing, you know, Jabar Walker and and um Trina Watford early on in free agency. We’ll see if there are more to come for the Philadelphia 76ers and making moves. The thing I will say is that I’m really impressed with this signing for the Philadelphia 76ers. Um, you know, if I had a hat off, if I had a hat on, I’d take it off. Uh, you know, to that that is that’s that’s how impressive I think the signing is. The fact that they were able to get Jabari Walker on a two-way deal. We’re talking about someone who averaged uh five points, four rebounds per game, shooting a total of 39% from three last season, shooting almost 52% from the floor, playing 60 games for the Blazers. the 2023 24 season averaging nine points per game, seven rebounds per game. I’m not acting like Jabari Walker should have made a a huge amount of money, but I I at least would have expected to him potentially getting the minimum in in the league, which is, you know, like I could I thought would I thought he would have been able to get maybe 2 million, 3 million potentially. Um, you know, but a two-way contract, I think that’s a really solid signing to get someone who was a rotation player for the Portland Trailblazers in 60 games last year, shooting 39% from three, averaging five points per game. Then the season before that, averaged 9 and seven and was a starter for 23 games in 2023 24 season. I’m not acting like he’s some amazing player that 7 the 76ers are bringing in, but I think that is a little bit better play than what you might see for a two-way contract player. Um, and so, um, that’s why I’m impressed with this signing for them, the fact that they’re able to get a guy who’s played 188 games in the last three seasons on a two-way contract. Uh, sometimes you see two-way contract guys less experienced in this league. um and not a guy that’s played 188 games in the last three seasons. So, I I think that’s another reason why I think this is an impressive signing. Um the fact they didn’t have to use one of their standard contracts in order to get him on the roster and he’s going to be one of their two-way guys, that’s pretty impressive. But I think, you know, look, we saw you saw last year they the 76ers were didn’t take them there. There were a lot of players that, you know, were two-way contract guys and then got standard deals. I mean, you could look at, you know, a couple guys that just got, you know, brand new deals this this off season. Um, so, you know, I I think that for the 76ers, this is a guy that if he proves himself, if he can if he can come in and do well, sure, he’s a guy that can definitely get converted to a standard contract at some point. That would definitely wouldn’t surprise me. But, you know, it’s not, you know, look, you look at Justin Edwards last year was a guy that really came in and performed well for them. I think that’s one guy you can look at. He he got converted to a standard deal. He just got a big deal um last week. So, um I think he got like five four five million a year. So, um you know, if Phillies had Philly had injuries last year, if they can have injuries again this year, which I hope doesn’t happen, that would be a I I that’s a bad thing that would happen for them. I don’t want it to happen, but it’d be a good thing for him to potentially shine. And and you saw it in Portland, him get more playing time the 2023 24 season because of injuries and and that’s why he was able to play a lot more and average 9 and seven in the 2023 24 season. So, you know, he was able to shine in that opportunity. Maybe that could be another opportunity for him again this year, but I I hope not because I want to see Philadelphia healthy in the playoffs again. I really do. Um, I want to see the Tyrese, Maxi, Joel Embiid, and Paul George trio work out. Um, I really do. Let me know your thoughts on the signing for the 76ers in the comments section. And peace out.
