Are the San Antonio Spurs making the right roster moves early in the offseason?

So, how are the Spurs doing so far as far as the roster concerned in the offseason and what’s going on with the summer Spurs. What are we talking about today on this fine Fourth of July? Well, we’re going to be looking at how the Spurs are doing so far in the off season. I know. So, maybe it’s a little bit too early, but you know, they made a deal or at least they picked up a big man. We’re going to talk about that. Uh, what else they be doing the offseason? You know, extending contracts out. There’s some two-way players. They got extensions. So, we’ll be talking about that and more. And are they going in the right path? And are they even done to the roster? And then your summer Spurs get going tomorrow, I believe. Yeah. This weekend out in California. We’re going to hear from Harrison Ingram and Righty Min just a few minutes. Let’s go to bring in our guest. He is Casey Vieier, my good friend. Make sure to follow him on X at Casey Vieierie and my motivation for losing weight lately. He’s my motivation for losing weight. It’s a very broad statement
in a good way. Everybody know
a very broad way to introduce it.
If y’all saw me and Casey doing a show from the Victory Capital, y’all saw the difference. And that was enough motivation for me to be like, “No more stop.” And and and according to you, the show did well. So the answer
The show did very well.
Show did very well. So the answer to that, you just answered your own question there. A lot.
All right. I’m I’m going to do the full body shot again right now. Then we’re going to get some numbers. No.
Like you said, I I have no way to pivot off someone saying I’m the uh I’m the trying to lose weight. That that that
it was a good way. You’re I’m not saying you’re fat. I’m saying it was me that looked too huge.
Oh, I know. I’m not I’m not fat. If anything,
I could use a couple pit stops somewhere. But
maybe you need to work out with me.
No, man. I ain’t I I ain’t trying to look like you. Please. Please. Obviously, now I’m trying to look like you now after that video came out. But
I My frame my frame can’t can’t hold the 50 sets of 50 the way you can. No. So, so, so far Casey not only has motivated me to slim down a bit because you too much there.
D, he’s also was he introduced me to Cold Brew. Remember that everybody? Wasn’t he cold brew? Yeah.
Cold brew. Cold brew. And I finally dived into it and I love it now. Well, see what’s wild about that is that you spent a large majority of your life living in in New York.
I did. the fact that you never
right
came across that and if I’m not mistaken you actually came across that while living in New York because I don’t think you had moved back yet and you were you were still doing the the the coffee spots that we had at the time.
Yep. Yep. Yeah. Exactly.
Worked out.
Oh. All right. Well, hey once again, Casey, thank you for taking time out of your day on this 4th of July. We appreciate it. And uh yeah, make sure to follow him again at case_vie. do that right now. Uh we’re going to hear from Casey’s reporting just a bit from the Spurs summer league practice. So hang on tight for that. Some good stuff from Harrison Ingram and Riley Min. But first, you know, it feels like maybe this is a little too too early, you know, cuz free agency period just begun. But nevertheless, uh we’re going to look at how the Spurs are doing. So just a recap, uh they brought in the big man. Yep, they got a backup big man for Wem. You got Cornet, free agent from Boston. So, check. Uh, the draft came and went and, uh, Harper is on board and Carter Bryant is on board. So, check. And then it’s been halted. Yeah. I mean, aside from a couple of two-way offers to Min and I believe it was Ingram, too, or Ingram. Yes. Yes. So, aside from those two, that’s it. The Spurs have all but gone quiet. But again, we understand it’s just the freeze period just began. But nevertheless, Casey, what do you think of these first steps of free agency from the silver black? Uh, I’m I’m fine with it. I’m fine with it. Uh, cuz I think this was kind of going to be from the free agency standpoint, I think this was kind of be going to be what it was, what we anticipated the whole time. There they were not going to really get in play for a lot of the big names or honestly lack thereof that are out now. We knew after the Giannis thing fell through. We knew after the KD thing fell through and were this is what they were going to rock with. Like this is this is the core that they were going to go with. Maybe slight tinkerings here or there, but after the trades fell through after the draft, kind of knew in free agency what it was and then just kind of plug and play along the way with what they got and what they did. And four for 40 for Luke Cornett in in
2025. I mean, it sounds pricey, but Luke Cornett’s a pretty good basketball player. He’s going to come over filling a lot of the the blanks that that this Spurs team needs right now. And yeah,
if you want to look at it as if you want to if you want to say the off season, grade it by the Fourth of July holiday, which what you said is a is premature.
But up to this point in my mind,
if we’re going by the draft, which they knocked out of the park,
they knocked that out of the park. We’re going by free agency. They fill the hole that they need. Not a not a glaring one, but someone that’s that that fits in. Well, you give it an A. Uh, you’re saying if I
Well, because I gave the draft an A.
I gave the draft an A and nothing else, not a whole lot’s really happened, you know.
Uh, I if it comes up in a situation maybe as falling out of frame over here as Yeah. As the off season goes on.
Yeah. and maybe the Giannis thing becomes a conversation again and Giannis slips through the cracks potentially or or something like that and they have a very reasonable chance at getting him,
then I might re-evaluate that grade.
But in the meantime, for what it is right now, I think it’s been a a strong off season for the Spurs. I think they’ve done everything they needed to and you can’t really complain a whole lot about it. People will say, “Well, I I’ll let you complain because I see the wheels turning. I see the wheels.
I’m about to complain.” Yes. Uh, look, I’m not not knocking the the Cornet edition. I think that was perfect. I think that was good. I gave Adam move an A. I think exactly what the Spurs need. A big man who just did the dirty work. Rebound, be around the rim when Wimby loves to float away from it and just and have on the roster a viable big man. no longer going to Sohen or Mamu or playing that really small small five, right? Vassie was just unreliable. He’s always injured. So now that’s a check. But was it the right big man? He’s not really a stretch big. He didn’t take any threes last year with Boston. Now granted, that was Boston. Maybe they didn’t need him to even do that considering all the snipers they got on the roster.
Uh yes, I know he holds a college record for them for x amount of threes, you know, his position, but he really hasn’t done that in the NBA. I believe the best he’s had it was 35 34 35 36% around that range and that was in his days with New York. But ever since then it’s kind of been on the low end. Now again, I know he’s not known for being a stretch big. He’s just known for that perimeter play. You look at some of the metrics and the numbers, you know, uh pick and roll. He’s one of the best uh guys out there when it came to just pick and roll with the guy. The other guy being Tatum, those two were the second best tandem in a pick and roll situation, right? He’s very effective at the rim. We know we can block because of the cornet blocking style with two hands. So check check from 30 feet away.
Yeah, exactly. So it’s just like do I still get this team like they don’t have snipers. They just don’t have snipers and be a five could be the four be a three. So my my thought is like well this and could Carter Bryant be the three and D guy? Will Champenny have a complete season of being somewhat consistent? not
start hot and then drop off the map as we saw last year.
So, I think that’s the big hole now. It’s just this is the NBA is three-point happy. The Spurs don’t have three-point shooters as of now.
Would you rather ha them have prioritized that money? I mean, they didn’t have a ton of money to spend, but the money that they did pay to Cornet, would you have rather them? So, kind of what I’m getting here is you would have rather prioritized paying like Luke Canard or something like that.
Yeah, I think I would have had Luke Canard. Um, if I had to pick the the spots, I would have gone with a three-point snack.
He was Okay. Yeah, that’s
we did after the even after the draft.
Yeah, because Yeah, Carter and Harper uh we don’t know if they’re going to be three-point guys in the in the NBA. They haven’t even played a minute yet,
right?
So, there’s that. They’re still they’re still an unknown and we’ll definitely see what they can do in just a few days, you know, in the Cali summer league. But
yeah,
I just look again, I think it was one of those things where
you have a to-do list and maybe yeah, maybe a big was maybe number one check, but then feels like, okay, we need we need shooters and we’re like, oh, we’re kind of stuck here. And I look at the roster. There’s that.
But, you know, before we hit the break, I’m going to leave you with this question. Do
you think the Spurs off season begin in season? Yeah, think about that. Uh we’re going to be discussing that and more, including
my wheels are still turning. I’m not
Well, keep on thinking about that, Casey, because we got to take a break. So, when we get back, uh we’re going to continue talking about the Spurs in the offseason so far. Do we like the moves? Do we don’t like the moves? And yeah, so much more with Casey Vieier. Make sure to follow him on Casey_vie. Hey, but first I want to talk to you about game time. Lockdown Spurs joined by Casey Vieira. Make sure to follow him on X at Casecore Vieira. Now before the break, I said, “Hey, think about this Casey. You know, did the Spurs offseason really begin in season?” And he said, “I got your
you’ve been thinking.” And so here’s here’s where I’m going with this.
Do you think their offseason began with the move for Dear Fox? You think that should be lumped in? No, I would I wouldn’t I I see what you’re going for. I wouldn’t I wouldn’t lump it in with that. I I I think what’s the past is kind of the past with that. And I I think um maybe that’s not the the best way to phrase it, but but I I I think kind of you look at it collectively, the bigger picture, and it’s always going to be it’s always going to be fluid like this, right? And and they’ve they’ve beaten us over the head with patience and and things like that about this rebuild going forward. Having the assets, we’re waiting on the right moves. We look at everything. I’m just trying to think of all the, you know, coach speak and blanket stuff Brian Wright has said to us every time we’ve tried to poke and prod anything. All the little details that he’s just
Yeah.
that the poker face that he that he never folds with it. But I I I think if you look at it like collectively, this is
uh just kind of really just kind of been as advertised of of of what we’d expect. uh you you just rewind if I think if you like if you rewind the conversation maybe like a year ago or so
and you look at where the Spurs were this time last year and you had a little bit of a wish list checklist to where you hope they would be entering the 25 26 season and I think you would say things like okay um hopefully Castle turns into a competent NBA player
he’s been much more than that.
Hopefully Victor takes that next step. He did, you know, health health permitting. Knock on wood.
He did that. Hopefully they consolidate some of these billion in one assets that they do have and they go out and they get a really good player and they did that and they went out and got the Aaron Fox. Fast forward. So, so if you have that checklist, you know, bing bang boom, you got it. Fast forward to where we are this year. All those guys are still good and in check and you have you have a solid foundation of it going forward. And then kind of you make your own sort of little checklist again this year. What are you hoping for if you’re a Spurs fan?
You’re thinking the man right there on your screen.
Okay, we’re hoping he’s in the conversation of rookie of the year.
All right, there you have it. Right then and there. They still have more assets. Are they going to go out and do something else? Something else big? Probably not. We thought about it before, but this seems like it’s what it’s going to be.
Do you kind of want them to not make a seismic trade, but some tinkering to go around this current roster? You’re talking about the off season going into in season. If anything, like that sentiment, I would kind of apply that going into this year as opposed to the back end of last year in the summer. If that makes if that makes any sense. I think that in terms of like notable deals, guys getting shift shipped out of town that have been the main stays, if you will. I I don’t think we’re going to see any of that the rest of the summer. I don’t interest the way I think this thing is has played out. The summer has played out, you only saw a handful of games with Fox and WBY. So, it’s kind of like going back to the origin of when they got Victor to begin with was like, “Okay, year one, year two, we’re just trying to see what works with this guy
and we’ll fill in the blanks along the way.” Which they did and for the most part have done pretty well.
Yeah. Yeah. Exactly. Now I think it’s the same sentiment applies again except it’s with Victor and with De’aran Fox and to a lesser extent Castle and Harper. I would not be surprised if come midseason they do do another notable deal. Maybe not for an all-star, but again,
I think they’re better suited where they are right now, for what they tend to be going for in these situations to just wait. Just kind of hit the pause button, see what’s at the deadline, and move from there. Uh I don’t I I I think again, you know, this is my round my I I know I went a little roundabout with it, but I think the overriding sentiment that I have is that I think in terms of notable stuff at the end of the day this summer,
I think they’re probably set. I think my gut tells me that Yeah. Yeah.
My gut tells me that I think they’re set with what they got.
Yeah. Um, you know, you you heard reports, uh, you know, ESPN’s jam saying, you know, like, well, maybe the Spurs didn’t make the move for KD because they’re waiting for the bigger fish. And that bigger fish is Giannis. You know, we don’t Yeah. You know, there are so many rumblings out there. He’s unhappy in Milwaukee.
But nevertheless, we’ve never seen the Spurs in recent history make a seismic move like that, like something that just shakes the foundation. uh the closest maybe was the Kawhai Demar deal and you know that they had no choice and Kawhi wanted out but nevertheless I look at this team and it’s a good team on paper it’s a good team you got your size you got your defenders you got your wings you got your vets you got your rooks uh you got it all you got a mixed bag uh you got the new coach uh ready to go you brought in some backup coaches that are good ones too Williamson
so the team on paper looks like it’s rare turn to go. But again, I go back to the snipers, you know, where are they? Because that’s if you look at what happened in the NBA playoffs, you know, it was three point three point three point three-pointers, you know, and OKC and Indiana, Tyrese Hallebert and knocking them down. Uh, you know, Jordan, you know, the point is is like I think they’re strong enough to compete, but I think they still lack some pieces. And I feel they have to address them if you because that’s just the way the NBA is. you live and die by the three. And they’re going to probably die by the three if they don’t address it. Unless their plan is this, like fine.
If we can’t hit those threes, then neither you guys. And we’re going to run you off that line because they got the guys that can do that. Casey,
that is that’s a fair point. And you see it more so you see it more so that general idea on the other side of the spectrum. You see it that we uh we’re not great defensively, but we’re just going to try to outgun you. And maybe that is the focus at least in the immediiacy for the season going into this year. Uh that they have to amplify things a lot on the defensive end. And theoretically like guys like that should be a big reason why if we’re putting this theory into or this sentiment in motion it’ll be you know guys like Jeremy who will be tasked with with doing that. I tend to be of the mindset that uh again I think they’re we we have we all the evidence would indicate that they’re willing to just go out there and see what they got every year at this scarbe year. I have no evidence at Yeah. I mean Right. Go ahead. Go ahead.
No, I say they keep saying over and over again, we’re not going to skip steps. We’re not going to skip steps. And the closest to Skippy Steph was the deer and fox crate and that’s been it. Yeah,
that’s it. So
I
just um So you’re But it’s you give it an A. See, I’m I you know, I didn’t give my grade. I’m giving it a B.
And I think that’s fair. You know,
I think I think that’s fair.
I I I base that primarily off the fact of we haven’t gotten that far into the summer. You know, we’re recording this on July 3rd. you know, free agency isn’t even a week old.
I’m I’m basing this is heavily weighted. This is like 90% on the draft right now.
Yeah.
Like we could revisit this conversation in a month and I and I I’ll have a different answer for you.
But if I’m being the free agency pool is thin right now. There’s not much left in the pool. But I but I I I think I don’t You talk about making changes to this to this roster and I think right now the best way to do that if if you’re going to get a notable like you said the the the pull this thin out there I think if they do do something like that it they’re going to have to make a deal right like like at some point and they’re going to have to make a deal because we one thing that they keep running into is that and it’s honestly it’s been this way a few years now is that they kind of have to consolidate like their assets. They they accumulate too many of the same and then they’re caught in a spot where they need to consolidate and pivot elsewhere. Like the thing that comes to mind is
is the the Derek White De Jante Murray part of things and then like behind them you had Lonnie and and Bellanelli along the way and it was just like such a such a log jam and they had too much of the same thing and it just kind of seems like it’s been a little bit of a pattern right that like that right
and we’re
and it’s kind of and it’s kind of come across the same thing with the with the with the wings with the Keldons and the Sohands and the Barnes Kevin Bels of the world and I know in 2025 like you need those athletic wings out there,
but if neither of them, well, it’s more than neither. If the four of them, you know, they they have an element of being repetitive, guys are going to get moved. Guys are going to get like like guys are going to get shifted places because they’re going to need
they’re going to need to maximize the assets that they do have. And even if it’s not something seismic, it could still be a notable like notable move like if I can get
Yeah, it could be one of those like sneaky moves that pushes them a little bit like
you know they hack those kind not I want to say sneaky but you know if they chase Luke Canard or Duncan Robertson or something of that ilk, you know, I think that would help. And the thing they can still do it they can still make a deal. Uh, and I think if they’re gonna address the three-point line, um, it’ll have to be via trade or maybe somebody on the roster.
I think at this at at this point, yeah, uh, I I I think the short list
I think they were caught in a spot where they’re like, they don’t have a ton of money to spend and they want to get a good player,
but it kind of is what it is. It is you want to get you want to get a good player. Like I think they’re looking at it blind right in that front office. They’re looking at it like, “Okay, we’re gonna have a we’re gonna have a hole at some point here.” And do we go
do we go the Canard route, like you said, the Duncan Robinson route, and then bank on somebody like, I don’t know, I’m drawing a blank on the bringing back Bassie. Can we right healthy? And that that’s fair, you know, that that’s fair. But what I do know is that Luke Cornett was a pretty serviceable backup big man in the league last year.
Oh yeah.
He was pretty serviceable serviceable backup big man in the in the playoffs when
when Porzingis who knew what was wrong with them and Al Brunson had Horford on skates that entire series.
Cornett was the only big that like played consistently well.
You were going to have a a hole here either way when it comes to the free agency part of the summer. I just think now that they if they are going to shift things, it’s going to go half gonna have to go back to the trade market.
I do.
I think so, too.
But but I don’t think that I don’t think that trade is going to be happening until, you know, middle of the season. I don’t think it’s going to happen this summer, but I think it needs to happen. I do think it needs to happen.
Yeah, it definitely needs to happen. Or, like I said, maybe somebody either on the current roster or on the Austin Spurs roster could fill that need. Yeah. All right. We’re done talking about that. kind of kind of tease what’s going to happen up next. Uh we’re going to be looking at the summer Spurs. Casey Vieira had a chance to talk to a couple of the players. They’re going out to Vegas and California. We’re here from them in just a few minutes. But again, we want to hear from you. What do you think about the San Antonio Spurs offseason so far? I get it. We both understand it’s way too early, but do you like at least the direction they’re going? Let us know. You can let Casey know on at Casey to let me know by going to lockpers. Leave a comment. We’ll reading the future episode of Lock Spurs. Coming up next, Harrison Ingram and Riley Min. And we’re back right here. Lockout Spurs joined by Kei Vieiera. Make sure to go to X. That’s where you’re going to follow him because he
I was going to say that’s the first time I’ve been ever ever been introduced by my Twitter name. You know what? That’s that’s that’s how kids are doing it nowadays, you know? I was like, we don’t need to know your real name. We need to
Well, if we’re being honest, dude, if we’re being honest, like you’ve you’ve created such a brand with that Twitter handle.
Oh, yeah. You know, like if you go to those if you go to those games, how many people know you as Jeff Garcia? How many people
know you as Jeff Fone? It’s I’d imagine it’s probably like 5050, right? And you know what it that that handle actually uh was given to me by my former uh spot that I was at the other they they the one that created it and I did try to
on them.
Well, that’s the thing. I tried to redo it to reflect the shift from that uh that news outlet in San Antonio to Ken’s 5 and I did but you can’t like apparently a rule is you can’t you can change the name of the handle but you can’t change the handle itself like I don’t know
I’ve had mine forever so I was able
all the me all the media outlets media outlets I worked at along the way they never strong armed me into
into adding the call letters with it so I’ve just had
I’ve had that forever All right. Uh well, the summer Spurs are going to get in action uh I believe tomorrow. Uh they’ll be out in California for the Catholic Classic. Yes. No Dylan Harper, but uh the Spurs at least are hopeful that he’ll play in Vegas. And let me tell you right now, probably like a game and a half, maybe even he gets out there, you know, Casey, if he gets out there, you know, maybe a game and a half,
something like that. Who knows?
You know what? You know what? And I always I always tell people they Oh, you’re not going to go to summary. You’re never going to go to summary. And I’ve been to so many summer leagues. I remember going to the summer league when it wasn’t a thing where it was just dead.
But I would hate going because whoever the Spurs drafted will get that one or two, one or one and a half a game and you’re like, “Wait a minute. So now I’m here for another two or three days to talk to X, Y, and Z player that either be smashing Austin or not on the roster anymore.”
So
there’s that. You have to Yeah, that trip that trip if you do it is over in like the first weekend.
First weekend. Yeah. But uh Casey, you got a chance to talk to a couple of the the players heading out to California and Vegas. Uh who did you talk to?
Yeah. Yeah. So they wrapped up shootound today. Uh the wrapped up summer Spurs did at the Victory Capital Center, their last practice before departing out west. Today we got uh Riley Min, Harrison Ingram. Minim of course uh spent a majority of of the year last year in Austin. Became a little bit of a fan favorite in the preseason last year summer league because he could shoot a little bit. We’re talking about shooting all the all this bunch.
He shoot a little bit. Unfortunately, it ended midway through the season. Busted his shoulder. Six plus month recovery. Talked to him today.
Feeling good, feeling happy. And positive updates as we head into the new year.
Feel like I’ve been putting in the work for about 6 months now uh going through the rehab process and uh I’ve been on pace with everything. So, I feel confident. This is my first week getting back to full contact, but I’m feeling good, feeling healthy, uh and excited to play. Spurs put some great people uh in place to take care of my rehab and just everything, my physical therapy, and it was just a smooth process in these last couple months. In the beginning, it was it was a little rough, but uh we got through it just like any other rehab, but it was good and I feel confident in my shoulder and I’m I’m starting to show it out there. It’s it’s definitely tough because you know like when the shoulder uh goes through that process, I’ve been through it before and uh just knowing that the season’s going to be over, it’s tough. It’s a tough pill to swallow, but you got to get right back up. And I feel like the best players are the best people at responding to things that don’t go their way. So, uh, just get up the next day and go put in the work and and show what you can do. I’m blessed to be a part of this organization and and I’m glad that they want me to be here and, uh, they gave me a qualifying offer. So, I’m excited to go into next year and, uh, keep proving what I can do. All right. You just heard from Riley Min there. And, uh, you’re you’re right. He’s he seems very optimistic. It looks like uh is his path to really showing what he has to make an impression on the San Antonio coaching staff. But it’s funny, everybody talks about the Spurs and oh, if you want to get minutes, you got to hit defense. What if Min is? No, I got to hit offense and hit the threes because he could be kind of the low-key guy that hey, we do have a sniper. It’s Riley Min.
He shot lights out in Austin. If we’re being honest, there’s there is a reasonable pathway for him to get on the floor. Like going to have to play defense. We know that. Yeah.
But that skill set does that he does have not particularly a lot strong suit for a majority of the guys that are in the way of him.
Will he probably become a rotational will he become a rotational player by the end of the year? Probably not. But all you can ask for is the opportunity, the chance for that opportunity and to be on a, you know, to be on that final 15
man roster at the end of the year. And then
right now or at the start of the year, I should say. And right now things are trending in the right way. It starts with health and he’s healthy and that’s
that’s
Yeah, that’s exactly what it counts. And um I think he he can if he can showcase that he can be a threat from deep I think that could be you know his way to get some some San Antonio minutes because you look at the rotation right now he’s he’s playing behind some guys Champany well Elden Vel and Barnes so
it would take some things it would take some things happening for him to get regular absolutely absolutely
but you also spoke to Harrison Ingram correct
yeah And uh another guy that’s going to be in front of Riley Min in the rotation.
Uh Wednesday, or I should say Tuesday when we were talking to Carter Bryant,
he was saying how he needed to improve in Spanish. More specifically, as we know, he’s fluent in sign language.
Uh he needs to improve his sign lang sign language and I can’t can’t even spit it out. His being able to sign that
in Spanish. There we go. There we go.
Yeah, clearly I can clearly I can I can’t master barely barely can master English here, let alone signing in Spanish. So he was asked who who he wanted to talk to. Carter was he said Manu and Harrison Ingram might remember that was the big talking point when Ingram got here last year in the summer he was drafted was in Spanish. So
I asked him about that. I said, “Hey, are you willing to help your guy out?” And the conversation kind of I guess you’ll see kind of expanded beyond that.
You said that?
Yeah, I said that the other day.
I hope a little bit. If he if he if I teach him Spanish, he got to teach me sign language then.
Yeah. Hey,
it’s a deal. It’s a deal. I know nothing.
Has anyone learned uh any French in the locker room for Victor?
Uh, no. Cuz when he when he talks in French, he talks too fast. No one No one’s even trying to get to know that. I think HB he’s the type of guy to to learn it but like not tell you and then a year later come speaking yeah start speaking fluent and you’re like bro where did you where did you learn that
so how would you say yours is then
in French I’m terrible I couldn’t even I don’t even know how what is it what is it bonjour bonjour bonjour
and we’re back yeah was interesting conversation there yeah it’s not talking about x’s and o’s talk about languages but it was fun it was fun it looks like He trimmed down.
He did. He did trim down.
Yeah. If if I was a if I was a respectable journalist, I want to call myself journalist. If I was a respectable person who was not just looking for the funny sound bite, he actually had a lot a lot of really good stuff. One was that he um he he has lost weight. He says I believe he said the number was 10 pounds. Um admittedly admittedly, and I say this lost in translation like actually this is what happened. our old our our pal Paco Fuentes over that un always um
you know
he’s a character always willing to strike up uh conversation. Paco rattled off four straight questions in Spanish
in the scrum
and my Spanish is pretty good. Um, but to get every little intricate detail that Harrison Ingram was giving about his offseason training and you know what he what it took for him to slim down, lose weight.
Point being Harrison Ingram has cut the sweets. He’s feeling good. He’s lost weight. Think Kell Johnson the couple year was it two years now? Kelvin Johnson came into camp and looked like a shell.
Oh yeah. Cut out bies. You looked like you had lost Kelvin Johnson himself. Like think along the same lines.
Yeah,
think along the same lines. Yeah. No more big body for him. No more big body.
Um I think he he cut out Bies, wasn’t it? I think that was he
said Bies. I think Pop said he cut out pasta, too. Yeah, I see. I wish I was at that that huddle because Yeah. Uh in case, you know, I’m I’m fluent in Spanish. I can go to my
Your Spanish is good. Yeah, your your your Spanish is like my my Spanish is pretty good.
Um I I think I think like I said there’s I can I can get around pretty well. It’s it’s efficient. Your Spanish is definitely like like there was one time
I I’ve had I’ve had full-on Spanish conversations with Fabiso Alberto
modern Gobi that was that was fun.
Yeah. Um, and uh, and I’ve taught some of the Spurs players phrases really kind of short shortcuts. I I taught um, uh, Malachi, I think it was Malachi Brandham,
uh, and Blake Wesley, uh, Kellen Johnson’s brother and I think it was, no, it wasn’t Charles B. It was one other guy
when they were up in Austin. No, no, they were doing like community events. uh like Malik Malik was sorry Malachi was doing like a Christmas event and you know we just started talking and then somehow you know we started talking about that and you know I said hey let me teach you some tricks and he was like for real for real say like that I was like yeah and he goes oh he goes that’s he was like that’s tight that’s tight man and then um but nevertheless no I’m glad that Harrison Ingram got a little bit of shine because you know I don’t I still don’t he’s kind of unknown for me unknown like you know he’s the position he’s playing it’s already a hog jam there. And you know, I think he’s going to be in Austin again next season.
He will. Yeah. Yeah.
Yeah. So, you know, whatever minutes these guys can get, they even if it’s on a summer league level, hopefully they take advantage of it and show out because you never know what could happen. Trades, injuries, low management, and yeah, low management and
number gets called. But Casey, that was a pretty good uh sound clip you brought there from us. So, we appreciate that. As always, let us borrow it here on Locked on Spurs and Summer Spurs. Yeah, they start get things going this weekend. So, after Fourth of July week or day, you know, you can definitely get a little a little taste of some Spurs action. Uh so, enjoy that. But, uh Casey, again, thank you for taking time out of your schedule and join us here a lot on Spurs on this fine Fourth of July. Uh, you know, you heard me in the intro say my favorite fourth of July clip is the Independence Day speech by whatever. Uh, you know, all time all time movie. Fourth of July. What is your favorite Fourth of July movie?
That one. That one.
Got to go Independence Day, right?
Independence Day.
Yeah,
without a doubt.
You can, you know, you would have really, really impressed me if you said the G.I. Joe movie.
Why? Because the opening scene is a b this is total total 80s here
is a opening scene is a battle against cobra on fourth of July
at Staten not at Ellis Island
on the on the statue literally on the Statue of Liberty as fireworks are being launched behind them during the battle and balloons are dropped and then the hero Duke he flies up to with the American flag and he passes the tablet and it says is their Fourth of July on there and then they go and then Yum Joe
that is the most extraction of July.
It’s what movie I was on a plane the other day. What was the movie I watched? Um Oh, it was a good movie. It was a good movie. Not I guess uh talk about America’s independence. This is a little bit of a pivot, but I saw uh Civil War with Kirsten Dunce the other day. Did you see that?
Oh. Oh, no. I didn’t.
It came out. It came out like a year ago.
Yeah.
I was kind of like, it’s all right.
I I thought it was good. I thought it was good. It because it’s it’s it’s I thought it was good because it was a little bit interesting because it’s not a movie about um I guess the the hypothetical of the what’s the worst that could happen to our country.
It’s not about that. It’s more so about these group of ford photojournalists and they’re essentially it’s about these war photographers what they become and they’re like right in the middle of these things
and it’s it’s interesting because like Kirstston Dun she portrays it it’s a far cry from Bringing on because it’s like
she is like this like grizzled war veteran photographer and she’s like mentoring this like upand cominging like 23year-old trying to just get into the business who’s just like literally and figuratively shell shocked by all the
horrible happenings. It’s a very It’s a very good movie. It’s a very good movie.
It has that uh actor that’s from Austin, right? I forget his name that that Yes.
Uh from Austin. I know. But if you know who I’m talking about, he was in Breaking Bad.
He looks like uh what’s this? He looks like like kind of like a store brand of Pedro Pascal. Yeah. Yeah.
Yeah.
Yeah. He looks the the the t the teo version, right? The team.
Yeah, the team version. Yeah, he’s the team, right? I turned it on. I was like, “Wait a minute. He’s in that movie, too?” I was like,
“Yeah.”
No, that’s not not
That’s not That’s not
All right. It’s a movie. Team movie.
It’s a movie. Well, there you have it. See, movie review here a lot. All right. Yeah, exactly. Yeah. Yeah. I was hoping you would say GI Joe the movie.
No. No. He’s so dudes that that that that that opening is just so extra fourth. That is
just all of a sudden in the middle like literally in the middle of a freaking battle against the terrorist organization Cobra. I’m not kidding you. Got fireworks off and somehow someway balloons start dropping. I don’t know. They just start dropping on the battle. So pay for what you did, man. Like if you’re going in
extra This is ladies and this is extra Fourth of July.
Yeah. like the back end of of of the Avengers like you know by the time we hit Infinity War and all that where you just got to the point where like I don’t even care what happens. I’ve just seen everyone get just get snapped into oblivion. I just want like
full on I I don’t care how this story ends. I just want all out hell to break out and then that’s what happens. That’s pretty much
how that movie starts.
Absolutely. All right. Well, on that note, I guess I’m going to go watch Infinity War after this.

  1. To build a culture you need time and guys to share it. If your roster is always changing or moving for a large part, this can't be done properly… So two rookies and a third player is a big issue to get in Spurs culture. To me the off season is over. There was enough and good moves. Adding average guys is a wrong idea. The next step will be adding great talents by trades next season… With a roster fully integrated and more certitudes about players alchemy
