Rich Eisen Reacts to SGA’s Super Max Deal & the Bucks’ Big Dame Out/Myles Turner In Shakeup
what was it about week and a half ago about a week ago
week a week and a half ago um that or nine days ago game seven of the NBA finals up in the air the Indiana Pacers in Oklahoma City who knew was going to win as a matter of fact at the end of the first quarter looked like the Pacers were showing up like we’d seen them all playoffs long stout tough resilient tyresese Hallebertton making threes then his Achilles gave way then the Pacers gave way then the Oklahoma City Thunder took over and um and Shay Gilis Alexander wrapped up one of the great individual seasons in NBA history
hard G soft G that’s right with the trifecta of scoring leader NBA regular season MVP finals MVP very rare list we spent uh the following day talking about how SGA had done things that we’d never seen before or we’d seen before from people like Jordan and Kareem and so on and so forth well the Oklahoma City Thunder have rewarded SGAA with the richest contract in NBA history the super maximum contract four years $285 million through 203031 and his annual salary is something that you know would make uh Messi blush at right
balling
he’s basically being paid like a superstar footballer out there in the if you will soccer world 63.5 million when the extension starts kicking in in 2728 that goes up to 68 million the following year 73 he’s going to be in 203031 a $78.7 million a year athlete she Gilgis Alexander in the same way that throughout his ascension this year it’s like is he for real is this for real is he really a superstar player oh yeah he’s a superstar player oh yeah he actually did it and even after doing it a lot of folks are wondering is he really all that it really is amazing how we’re wondering that well the Oklahoma City Thunder have now wrapped him up through 2031 and they’re going to pay him remarkable amounts of money and build keep building around him by the way great plan
great plan and he’s happy everyone in Oklahoma City is going to be happy and they they have a million draft choices and so that happened today and just when you thought that was going to be the biggest story of the day the Pacers got involved now we saw it with Jason Tatum’s Achilles giving away and the luxury tax of the second apron staring the Celtics in the face and the thought that if we could run it all that with everybody healthy maybe just maybe we’ll pay an absurd amount of luxury tax money but Jason Tatum’s out and so now is Jaru Holiday and Chris Taps Sporzing right we even heard the uh the owner Josh Kunky of the Denver Nuggets say “We’re all just one bad injury away from trading away our best player.” When he mentioned 15 right everyone in Denver’s like “All right
you just bring that up out of nowhere.” as they as they traded Michael Porter for
Cam Johnson today that was a little shocking
a Nets Nuggets trade
um but the reason why I bring this up is you’re only one injury away from doing something that you don’t really consider which is in the case of the Pacers who according to Ramona Shelurn have not paid a luxury tax in 20 years 2005 was the last time they paid a luxury tax decided with Tyrese Hallebertton now out for next year do we go ahead and go into the luxury tax for Miles Turner and the answer turned out to be no not going to happen and that is where wait for it the Milwaukee Bucks come into play because amidst all of this Brooke Lopez winds up signing with the Los Angeles Clippers which makes Lakers fans a little bit headscratching because Lopez was one of the players some Lakers fans were thinking we need a center you know maybe he could be one albeit he’s a a three-point shooting center they need they need a rim protector and a shot blocker which Lopez can be instead he’s going to be it into a dome with Zubos and Kawaii and Harden
that led Giannis to post a photograph of him I guess from his celebration lopez from this yeah
um of Brook Lopez from his celebration
yeah the championship
of winning the championship he’s got the goggles on and you know the there’s the the plastic over the locker room lockers i don’t know what’s going on right now man mood 100% giannis was not pleased about Brook Lopez
disappearing well the Bucks apparently had a plan cuz if you want a rim protector and a shot blocker and a three-point shooter in your center how does Miles Turner sound and Miles Turner agrees to a 4-year $17 million deal with the Bucks
a player option for year four and then the ultimate which is a 15% trade kicker so they gave they gave Miles Turner all that and the third big-time player in these playoffs who blew out his Achilles in Damen Lillard he’s not there next year so the Bucks are clearly going over some sort of a threshold here right cuz you got Dame you got Miles you got Giannis well here’s the ultimate kicker to the story
poris too
right they signed Poris too right here’s the ultimate kicker to the story lillard’s cut now listen God bless all these capologists and front office experts in the NBA is there anything more confusing than the NBA collective bargaining salary cap
there’s not structure
it’s people who struggle with that
there is hey there’s there’s something where you can stretch somebody’s contract out when you cut them and so they’re stretching Damen Lillard’s contract for five years and the 113 million they’re paying him or that he’s owed they’re going to stretch it out over the next half decade to send him packing now 22 million a year forget about Bobby Bo getting 1.1 forever
right annually he’s going to get 22 million Milwaukee Bucks dollars sent to him and I mean I I I guess like that’s an unkind cut to say the least it’s just hey Dame we we wanted you you wanted you you were waiting forever to see if the Blazers can make a championship team for you you and your family married to that community and they to you and after all the soularching he finally demands and gets the exit visa to Milwaukee where in year two full year one his Achilles pops in the middle of a playoff game and they’re like “Yeah we we’ve got to move on.” But I mean for Giannis it’s just like you get Miles Turner now and how is Giannis taking that well according to Chris Haynes of Yahoo Sports not well he’s being told Giannis is not pleased with the team decision to wave Damen Lillard here we go
so now you know does this mean anything or is Giannis just unhappy with it he’s unhappy be because he knows Damen Lillard was there for him and he might have been his handpicked choice to come to keep him happy in Milwaukee or is this just another moment where Giannis isn’t terribly happy with the current situation in Milwaukee he’ll eventually cool down at least that’s what the Bucks are thinking and realize Miles Turner ain’t too shabby certainly if Dame wasn’t going to be around next year but maybe Giannis is looking for years down the road and Lillard is just a great dude and teammate and he’s just not happy with the fact that he’s now going to have to rehab this Achilles um without a team that does make him quite the uh attractive pickup one would think in 2026 but who thought like that would be the nine days after the Pacers and Thunder concluded the 2024 2025 season that culminated with a championship for Oklahoma City an SGA season for the ages a Pacers team that shocked the world but a lot of people talking about what’s with all these Achilles injuries and all of these Achilles injuries were front and center in the first biggest splashes of the NBA new league year celtics are like “Yeah we’re going to go with a whole new start in five next year waiting for Tatum to come back
and we’ll try and win as many games as possible al Horford may be gone the Warriors appear to be the his next spot which would be interesting.”
Um and those are the changes the Pacers are like “Yeah Tyrese is out miles Turner four years 104 million 15% trade kicker thanks for thanks for the 10 years Miles and the Bucks are like we’ll take Miles Turner but the third guy with an Achilles popping see you later 22 million a year go rehab on your own and thanks for the time and can’t hang it up Crazy

Almost a million a game.
I don't see the move drastically improving the team. (Bucks) Need to get younger and faster. Some perimeter D would be nice
7:51 Miss opportunity for a Milwaukee Buck$ pun
The east is wide open next season and Milwaukee just made the move to potentially solidify their top spot
That whole Futball crap sucks nobody says it like that except in that stupid insurance add. Everybody calls it football
Whatever you do. Don't figure out his weekly check size. Especially year 4. Damn SGA!!!! ROCK ON MAN!
I just don't even know what I would do with my life if I was making $70M+ a year. That's absurd, but deserved. Best player in the sport right now.
off season nba drama > nba draft 😁
Hopefully, ESPN can STFU about Giannis being traded.
I think I was part of the .08% of basketball fans that knew the Lillard trade was just plain awful. I feel vindicated today.
It's about Dame Time…..5 yrs later…🤞🏽🤑🤞🏽
That's an unfortunate thumbnail of SGA
As a pacers fan. We are not sad about this Myles is a solid player nothing more. He's also a center that can't defend or rebound or even create his own shot and has no post game. I'm good on 100 mil for that we have more important pieces
I'm happy for SGA. He earned his super-max.
Steph shut down with strain – I think he knew the Achilles tear risk and saw it happen to KD and said I’m good to play next year!
SGA, You deserve every penny.
Funny, I'm not seeing anywhere else that Giannis is unhappy with this move. On the contrary, one would think, given Dame's out-for-the-year injury, their cap situation and the disappointing performance following the trade, that he would be pleased at (or at least understand) the move. This seems to me to be a go-for-it move designed to keep Giannis in Milwaukee. I hope it succeeds.
Lol yall talking salary for other leagues is great nfl propaganda
how are these teams going to pay people when your number 1 player making almost 80 mil a year. Your 2-12 players will be making 10 mil a year 😂
This is good for Dame. He can make easy money while rehabbing and, once he’s good, can choose whichever team he wants to join and that team gets a huge 20-m/year discount thanks to the Bucks.
If Giannis asks for a trade, the NBA world would flip upside down..
Thunder up
The man deserves every penny, give him his flowers!
Disgusting. Keep celebrating this kind gross wealth inequality. Millions struggling below the poverty line, yet a man who puts a ball through a cylinder earns tens of millions per year. Shameful.
No serious lakers fan wanted Brooke lopez
Giannis is fine. He wants to be the point and run the offense. They needed to make some moves to make a run, and now they have a chance, with the east wide open: Halli gone, Tatum gone, Knicks without a coach. Bucks have that rotation that had a high win percentage at the end of the year – they knew they didn't have Dame. Championship windows are short, and they made a move with a very interesting Eastern Conference landscape.
Heard colin say he would rather have cooper than shai today…i damn near almost punched my tv…wtf
My Guy SGA Deserves every penny, give him his flowers!
Giannis to Los Angeles lakers
How TF does anyone know what Giannis meant by that tweet?!
It's so obvious the neither Rich nor anyone else there understands the cap rules of the NBA. Dame Lillard still gets his money in 2 years. It's only 5 years on the cap similar to the prorating of a signing bonus in the NFL. Why don't they look these things up before they talk? Don't they have producers who are on top of this? These guys clearly know their NFL but for other sports their knowledge is lacking.
One of the best things about SGA is no off court issues. When the face of your franchise is a good citizen it's a plus plus.
I’m getting real tired of the owners complaining about a salary cap of their own design.
We had some dark times, but man it feels good to be a Thunder fan! ⚡️
Tickets would be $5 to $10 dollars if the owners and players didn't treat a GAME like it's a religion. I am glad the players are getting their share though.
When you stretch out the cap hit from a waived player, you multiple his remaining years under contract by 2 then add 1 and that is how many yrs you can stretch out the cap hit.
Why do people keep thinking that a player who is 35 and rips up their achilles is going to come back and be as good as they were? At that age that injury is going to take away something from you and you will not be as good as you were.
Dame is going to look good in a Heat jersey
Funny, cause all I heard from these sports shows was that the finals didn't have any stars in it. I guess winning the MVP and Finals MVP doesn't qualify as a star because he doesn't play for New York or LA
Listening to all these sports show they should just cut the NBA down to 8 teams so they can just talk about New York and LA and don't have to hurt themselves talking about inferior cities like OKC and Indy anymore
I love SGA but NO player is worth 79 million dollars a year. These contracts are going to be the death of the NBA.
As a Pacers fan it's soul crushing. To lose the Finals in that manner, Haliburton out all next season, then losing Myles Turner, who wanted to remain a Pacer, to of all teams the hated Bucks.
I saw that Bobby Schmurda reference TJ!
