Leon Rose Might Have Done It Again! | New York Knicks Rumors, News

There’s been a lot of talk about what the New York Knicks have left when it comes to cap space and what Gershon Yabiselli might do with his contract could be big. We’re going to break that down on today’s show. But first, make sure you are subscribed to the channel. I appreciate everybody for being here as we talk about Gershon Yabaselli, the newest New York Knick, and why what he is rumored to potentially be doing with this contract could change a lot for the New York Knicks. I want to go back to this tweet from Sham Sharan when he broke the news saying that Gers Gershan Yabiselli is expected to sign a two-year 12 million dollar deal with the New York Knicks and the second year in that contract being a player option two years $12 million. That would be the full taxpayer mid-level exception, which would mean that the New York Knicks are hardcapped at that second apron. And if they do give him that full taxpayer mid-level exception, uh they would not be able to afford another veteran minimum contract on it. They would have to essentially sign two players to minimum rookie scale contracts. And you look at where the Knicks are with their cap sheet, and shout out to Bobby Marks for doing all of this. Based off of Yabaelli signing a 2-year $12 million deal, the Knicks are at $24 million in salary and they are $3.8 million away from the second apron. Meaning they have to find a way to sign two players for $3.8 million or $3.7 million because you can’t cross over the second apron. And if you want a veteran minimum player, that literally is just not possible. We kind of did a rough estimate of what the taxpayer mid-level exception would be and it’s a two-year 1.6 million deal. Well, Sham Shirani reported that it was going to be two years and $12 million. But there’s even a better twist to that. Shout out to Schwinny for this hat tip saying right now hoops hype has Yabiselli salary for $5.1 million which is equal to what the byianual exception is for the season not the full taxpayer mid-level exception. This would give the Knicks much welcomed breathing room under the second apron to fill out the roster with veteran minimum deals. If Gershon Yapacelli takes $5.1 million instead of $5.6 million, that would be huge for the New York Knicks because they can go out and add another veteran a minimum guy and they could fill out this roster instead of having to sign Muhammad Diawara and James Naji to vet or minimum scale rookie contracts. Essentially saying you could add someone else to this team that could help. And the Knicks, they need all the money and all the space that they can create under the second apron because you cannot exceed it. And while maybe half a million dollars doesn’t sound like a lot in the grand scheme of things, it also gives you flexibil flexibility throughout the years. And there are bonuses tied into some of these players contracts. And if those bonuses hit, you still have to stay under the second apron. So, it gives you flexibility. It gives you breathing room. It gives you a lot more space to not cross over that second apron, which you literally cannot. And it gives you the opportunity to go out and sign a veteran, a minimum guy that can contribute. And I think the Knicks, if it’s true, Yabiselli’s deal, and it’s not a typo by hoop type, I think they’re going to first and foremost look at someone like Landry Shamut to potentially bring back on the veteran minimum. at the time of recording this video as we film it on Thursday, July 3rd at 7:30 Eastern. Landry Sham is still a free agent and Don Wright is still a free agent. We’re going to break down all the top free agents coming up in a second. But first, I’ll just ask you this question. If you could choose one of these vets to come back to the Knicks, which one would it be? Is it Shamut? Is it Don Wright? Type the initials of the guy you want to see return to the Knicks. If I had to guess, I would say Landry Shamut probably leads the pack on that. But I do think at this point anything could happen. So, let’s start with the top free agents left in NBA free agency. Again, as we film this video on July 3rd at 7:30 Eastern time, PM Jonathan Kaminga still a top free agent out there. He is a restricted free agent. Uh he’s just going to be too expensive for the Knicks, as is Josh Giddy, and as is Quinton Grimes. Damen Lillard is now a free agent. He could potentially sign for the veteran a minimum. There’s been some chatter maybe go to Boston. Maybe he can go to Golden State. Lakers are looking at him. Heard of a couple of other teams. I would doubt he’s a Nick, but if Yabiselli takes less like it’s been hinted at, he could be a Nick if both sides wanted. Cam Thomas, he’s restricted and he’s going to be out of the Knicks price range. A guy like Al Horford at the time of filming this video is still a free agent. He could be someone they look at. I would love for the New York Knicks to go out and sign Chris Paul. I think at this point it’s just going to be uh him staying on the west coast and looking for a starting job. Malcolm Brogden is in your price range for the vet men. Mo Vagner is potentially there. We’ve heard some interest on Russell Westbrook. I think though it’s probably unlikely anyone on your screen right here is going to be signed by the Knicks. Whereas this next crop of five guys, there could be someone. Chris Buchet was someone the Knicks were interested at interested in at the 2025 can’t believe it’s 2025 2025 NBA trade deadline. Amir Coffee potentially. I would love the idea of adding someone like Gary Payton the second Anthony Melton as a scoring guard. There’s rumored interest between Ben Simmons and the Knicks. I’d keep your eyes on that one. So I wouldn’t be shocked if one of these five players becomes the Nick on the Vet men and then you got someone like Cody Martin. Trey Lyles is someone to monitor as he has played under coach Mike Brown. Literally as we’re filming this video, Jackson Hayes just resigned with the Los Angeles Lakers. So, he’s not going to be obviously a Nick. Then maybe a guy preacher, even though I don’t think he’s coming back. And then Dylon Wright. Those are the top 20 free agents at this point. And look, maybe you had one of those guys and maybe it helps you get to a place that you haven’t been since 1972 and 1973. Um, I would be okay with a couple of those guys. The end of the day, it is a veteran minimum contract and there are more than 20 free agents still available. Um, Al Horford would be a good ad to this team. Uh, you could use always another body at the center spot. Uh, Russell Westbrook has been linked to this team. Is there a role for him at this point any longer? Does the addition of Jordan Clarkson kind of eliminate the need for Russell Westbrook? I’m not so sure. I love the addition of Jordan Clarkson. Like he could score it. Can you have a back quarter Clarkson and Westbrook? I’m not so sure. Like Leon Rose, if Yabasel does take that cheaper deal, he needs to go out and find a veteran for the veteran minimum then go out and help this team. Excited about it. Yapelle already taking a discount. He hasn’t even played here. He’s getting his He’s gonna be a fan favorite here, guys. I really, really do think so. Um, he’s going to bring a legit scoring presence off the bench alongside Clarkson. And maybe you could add someone else that’s a vet and could help this team.
