The #Cavs get some much needed big man help

The Cleveland Cavaliers are welcoming Larry Nance Jr. back into the fold. Mark Stein reporting that the Cavaliers have agreed to a contract with the former Cavalier and most recently of the Atlanta Hawks, Larry Nance Jr. to come into the fold and be Jared Allen’s backup. He can play a little bit of the four alongside Evan Mobley in certain lineups. He can play the four with Jared Allen and go with a double traditional center. Larry Nan Jr. a bit undized for the center position. He’s listed at 6’8, but he does have a longer wingspan and he does provide some three-point shooting. Last season, he only played 24 games for the Atlanta Hawks, but in just under 20 minutes per game, he averaged 8 and a half points, four and a half rebounds, and one and a half assists per game while shooting 52% from the floor and 45% from beyond the arc. So, he’s an efficient scorer, even though he’s not a go-to score. He needs other guys to set him up at this stage of his career. I mean, he’s been in the league for a while now. He’s 32 years old. He’ll be 33 in the middle of next season. His birthday is actually on New Year’s Day. However, the Akran native is now coming back home to the team that he played a couple seasons for from 2027 all the way up to 2021. So, all in all, he played four years in Cleveland. He has more games in the Cavaliers uniform than he does in any other uniform throughout his NBA career. But the Cavs needed a backup big. I did not feel comfortable with Dean Wade being their only real backup big. So, this signing of Larry Nance Jr. gives him another option who could help out from a veteran leadership standpoint. And he can also give you more on the court than a guy like Tristan Thompson could. He could still play, but once again, like Lonzo, injuries have been a bit of an issue. He did play 24 games last year. He played 60 plus in the two years prior. So, hopefully Larry Nance Jr. is healthy. And if he’s healthy, he can be a contributor for the Cavs. A big fan of the signing.
