Jeremiah Fears 1-on-1 w/ Andrew Lopez | New Orleans Pelicans

Andrew Lopez here is sitting with the number seven overall pick, Jeremiah Fears, the newest of the Pelicans right now. So Jeremiah, let’s just kind of talk about this entire process. What was what has this week been like for you from being in Brooklyn to coming here? What’s everything been like?
It’s been super dope. Um it’s one of those experiences you’ll never forget in your life. Um just being able to go through the whole process. Obviously, every kid dream of kind of getting to this point. So, it’s one of those things that you write down and that you dream of and finally being able to accomplish something like this been amazing. I took a lot of pictures, a lot of videos, uh definitely to save it for the future. Um show my family when the time is right. Um and just something to keep for myself as well.
What was that moment itself like? You hear your name called Adam Silver is up there. With the seventh pick in the 2025 NBA draft, the New Orleans Pelicans select Jeremiah Pierce from the University of Oklahoma. Just just walk me through that moment, man. It was crazy. Um, it was a little bit of relief.
Um, just sitting there, you never you never know who going to call, what team’s going to kind of take a chance take a chance on you. So, um, hearing the Pelicans call was was super dope. Uh, I remember my agent told me like, “Yeah, we going going at number seven.” So, just dropped my head and I’m like only only God can tell like what your story is going to be. So, just continuing to keep working and I know this is only the beginning. So, I’m super excited.
How much I mean you right now you should be getting ready for your first year of college. You reclassify. What went into that and saying, “Hey, I’m I’m ready. I can do this.” Especially do it in the SEC.
Yes, sir. Um, just my confidence. Um, I believe in myself more than anything in the world. So, just continuing to stay confident throughout the the good, the bad, going to be a lot of bumps and bruises along the way. So, continuing to stay confident was um one of those big things for me and going in there and trusting myself. Um, like you said, I was supposed to be a senior in high school. So, stepping on the stage like that is it’s a big stage. So, you definitely got to be ready and be prepared for what’s about to come. So, but continue to stay focused on the main goal. And for all our Pelicans fans out there, let’s may not be familiar with your game. Why don’t you describe your game right now? Um, I would describe my game as somebody that’s creative, unique, shifty, and somebody that’s going to get his team involved. Um, it’s definitely going to be a show every game. Uh, the Pelican fans is definitely going to be in the crowd. A lot of oo and’s and, uh, getting the team hype, getting everybody hyped. A lot of dunks from Zion, a lot of great passes from my teammates, Derek Queen, Jose, um De Jonte. It’s gonna be just a great season. Um I feel like we all going to bring a lot to the table and we just kind of here to uh shift the culture around and shape everything. All right. Appreciate it. Yes, sir. Thank you. [Music]
