The Houston Rockets ACED The 2025 NBA Offseason
The Houston Rockets are the biggest winners of the 2025 NBA off seasonason. They absolutely crushed it. This team significantly got better as they will be a serious player in the West as this is a clear championship contender. The Rockets, they made a series of solid moves. Of course, their big fish was acquiring Kevin Durant. And then they made some other key moves that we’re going to talk about in this one. The Rockets, they look good. Guys, do me a solid. They are going for it after a solid 52 and30 season that saw them finish second in the Western Conference. and they pushed the Warriors to seven games in the first round. Houston made it clear that they weren’t in this game for moral victories. They want a championship. The Rockets got things started by trading for Kevin Durant. It was a blockbuster trade and they pulled off the move of the summer. They acquired the two-time Finals MVP from Phoenix in exchange for Jaylen Green, Dylan Brooks, and the number 10 pick in the 2025 NBA draft and five second round picks. Honestly, this was an amazing deal for the Rockets. A modest package considering Durant is still one of the games best despite his age. They don’t give up too much here and they get somebody who is going to make a massive difference and fix all of their half court scoring issues and then some. And the best part about that Durant deal was the fact that they didn’t have to surrender their more enticing young talent. Guys like Amen Thompson, Jabari Smith Jr., Shenun, they all remain on the Rockets with Kevin Durant. Durant. He’s older now, but he is still elite. He averaged 26.6 points, six rebounds, and 4.2 assists last season, shooting an absurd 52.7% from the field and 43% from three. Durant’s going to help this Rockets offense immediately. And he is the ultimate plugandplay player. He fits in every single system, every single lineup. adding this type of scoring to a really good young promising core. The Rockets, they have that championship upside. As soon as they made this trade, they entered that next level. Then the Rockets made some really good internal moves. They resigned Fred Van Vleet. as Van Vleet, he provides that veteran leadership and he’s going to be vital for this team because along with Durant, you’re going to have Van Vleet, a guy who has won a title, a guy who knows what it takes to go through a deep playoff run, and they were able to retain him at a discount. The Rockets declined Van Vleet’s $44.9 million team option only for him to return on a 2-year $50 million deal. So, this is solid. Now you’re only paying Van Vlee 25 million a season. That’s a really good bargain here. And he remains a steady hand at point guard. It’s his high basketball IQ, experience in the playoffs. He steps up when you need him to. We saw how big he was in that Warrior series. You need Van Vleet on this team if you’re going to make a deep run. And the Rockets were able to retain him again at a discount. They also extended Jabari Smith Jr. They gave him a 5year $122 million contract extension. They keep the versatile forward in Houston through 2031. And this guy’s got so much upside. We forget he’s only just 21 years old still. Averaged 12.2 points, seven rebounds, and he’s got great defensive instincts. He’s a valuable building block around Durant. And again, very big W for the Rockets that they were able to keep Jabaris Smith Jr. in that trade for Kevin Durant. Jabarisma Smith Jr., he’s really going to benefit playing with Kevin Durant. This is going to be kind of that learning curve. You got Durant on the tail end of his career. This is likely it for Durant with the Rockets and Jabari Smith Jr., he’s just beginning his career, still so young. So, this is a perfect scenario where you got Durant on your team, but also like not only is he going to contribute to helping you try to win a championship, but he’s going to be that mentor, that guy who other players like Jabarisma Jr. can learn from and get better from. So, I think that’s a valuable aspect of this. Jabarisma Jr., he’s going to benefit immensely from that learning curve playing alongside a guy like Kevin Durant. the Rockets, they resigned Stephen Adams. Stephen Adams, he did miss the entire 2024, 2025 season with injury. And they rewarded him with a three-year, $39 million deal. And I like Adams. You know, he’s a leader. Sets elite screens, great rebounder, great locker room presence, and he reunites with Kevin Durant. Of course, those two played with each other on the Thunder. So, I like how they were able to retain Adams here, adding to that center depth. One of the better moves of the off season, the Rockets land Dorian Finny Smith on a 4-year, $53 million deal. DFS, he is that 3 and D forward that this Rockets team needed and he’s going to be a perfect fit coming from the second unit. He averaged 8.7 points, 3.9 rebounds, shot a career best 41.1% from three. I thought this was a huge loss for the Lakers and a huge addition for the Rockets. He’s got that defense, that floor spacing that’s going to make him a perfect compliment next to Durant and Thompson. And Finny Smith, I think, is going to be an outstanding addition to this team. And the way that he’s just going to be able to be integrated in lineups and provide that floor spacing and that tremendous defense, the Rockets have put together just a tremendous two-way team. They got multiple guys who play well on both ends. And then finally they brought back Clint Capella. Yes, the Rockets reunite with a familiar face, Clink Capella. Remember, he once anchored that Rockets defense during the Harden era. And he returns to a nice three-year $21 million deal after averaging 8.9 points, 8.5 rebounds, and a block per game with the Hawks. And he’s going to bring that rim protection, that rebounding. He’s a lop threat, and that’s going to be great. Like you look at this roster, there’s a lot of creators. So Capella is going to get a lot of easy looks around the rim. So all of these moves that the Rockets have made have instantly transformed the Houston Rockets from a feel-good team to a genuine championship contender. The Rockets are no longer rebuilding. They’re no longer trying to take the next step. Like this team, they’re looking for a championship now. They’re hunting for a ring. And then of course beyond the player movement, the Rockets inking Udoka to that multi-year extension was big and that’s when you knew the Rockets were going to have a big off season. That Eay Udoka deal made you think like the Rockets are going to go all in. And then right after that they made the Durant trade. So all the pieces are now in place for the Rockets. No excuses. Expectations are going to be higher than ever going into next season. They’re going to be expected to not only remain a top seed in the West, but now actually win some playoff series, get close to winning that title. And they’re going to have a great chance of doing that. It’s the Thunder, Rockets, Nuggets. I think those are clearly the three best teams in the West. And the Rockets, they’re going to have as good of a shot as any of those other teams I just mentioned of getting out of the West and winning the title. So, I love what the Rockets have done. They’re the biggest winners of the NBA free agency and we will see what this team does. Let me know your thoughts on this team, guys. Drop a like on the video, subscribe to the channel if you’re new.
